further talking abt my prev post mentioning sasha's brain, i think it's interesting how his mind doesn't seem to cover his adult life at all. i feel like this is an easy further hint that he isn't showing his true full mind, that the shooting gallery is more of a puzzle box for the advanced campers to try. he limits it to his childhood because it's certainly all more age appropriate, and there is more that they will be able to relate to as they navigate the puzzle. the fact that he spends much of his time popping in and out into the... vague orange void, i like to imagine that's to another, more adult part of his brain. it does seem like the sasha way to compartmentalize parts of his life.
i'm conceptualizing this version of his mind that is very neverending-fractal-expanding matryoshka.
at his core is his childhood, the part of his mind that we see, turned into the shooting gallery as a testing area. it isn't as perfect and cleaned up a puzzle as he'd like it to be, with a few nasty details certainly still slipping their way through, but it adds a sense of reality to it all. contained in this cube is the mega-censor, which is perhaps the childhood id, it's like a big nasty baby, it's got dead flesh, it's like a big angry man. it's throwing a tantrum, and is also the punishment for throwing a tantrum. in short, it's likely reflective of his messy, detached childhood.
what if the whole of his mind that we see is not an extending void, but instead also contained within a much greater cube. the childhood cube/shooting gallery is the center point of the next, more complex room, still a rotating geometric shape, maybe now one with more facets, a black and white metropolis, with extending tableaus presenting his teen to young adult years, when he was doing odd jobs, taking classes, interning and learning, all of the pre-agent era.
this little world is all packed away inside a little box which is at the center of his current world, (maybe one with an orange sky? where he keeps popping in from?) and represents his current life as a psychonaut.
managing impulses/censors is something that he uses as a lesson, but i imagine it is also something that his brain naturally does. inside his own mind, he is constantly present, doing maintenance.
i think of the scott campbell exhausted handyman sasha popping in through the orange doors. he takes pride in his mind being something that is fastidious and clean. he speaks from experience when he says that bottling up your impulses puts your brain under a lot of pressure. it is something that is easier to acknowledge within your childhood. if you do it too much, you'll likely have a meltdown. but when we talk about years of doing constant impulse control, which is likely extreme at times, it will manifest in other, more complex ways... like compartmentalizing your entire brain into boxes that require constant maintenance.
#i'd love to do some drawings of these concepts#i'm not much of an environmental artist. especially in the architectural sense but i'm trying to improve that. i should try!#sasha nein#hcs#psychonauts#.txt

I'm feeling like rambling about AI on main, ignore me if it's not your cup of tea.
So a while ago, I did check out those art prompts AI, because when I pester about something, I like to know what I'm rambling about. I like to do a minimum of research and, if possible, try the thing out before making my opinion. For AI art, my opinion was already pretty solid, but I still wanted to check it out.
I found a free prompt stuff online, asked it a super easy prompt, and asked for a handful of different images. Just to see.
The prompt was [character tripping]. Really. Super easy, right? I wanted the thing to have as much liberty as possible.
It's not just that though. I chose this prompt because it is something I did in art school. Our teacher would give us simple prompts, and we would have to draw doodles in 5 minutes or less. Imagine a class of 15 exhausted art students full of caffeine being told to draw someone tripping.
The 15 art students' results? Little boys tripping over tree roots, teenage girls falling while rollskating, business men tripping on their papers and burning themselves with coffee, old ladies cracking a hip, comical falls backwards with a leg up, realistic falls forward with pained expressions, etc etc.
See, our fast doodles weren't any better than AI anatomically speaking. We were missing hands and our faces were distorted and a foot was bigger than another, things that are also common with AI. But the DIVERSITY. I remember being flabbergasted by it. We all had the same prompt, but none of us drew the same thing. I remember drawing the good old banana peel slip from the old comics I read when I was a kid. My best friend drew a kid falling in mud.
We did several prompts like that as training, and I always loved to see what everybody was doing, because it was always so different.
Now, here was the AI result: 5 anime girls in a running position at an angle, making shocked pikachu faces. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. The angle and the running poses were the only things that changed, and even then just slightly.
The AI only did 5 times the same stuff. Art style changed a bit from one to the other, but always the same vibe, always the same composition, and always that godsdamned shocked pikachu face. It was very underwhelming.
I don't care about perfect anatomy and lighting. But I care about creativity. I love seeing things that I would never have thought to do myself. And the AI didn't provide that at all. Coz AI has no creativity whatsoever. If you don't further your prompt to be very specific, it will just reheat the same bland stuff again and again. It's just boring.
I have a lot of grievances about AI. Art theft, environmental blunder, artists being paid even less than they already were (as if people and companies suggesting to pay us in visibility wasn't bad enough). But even on an emotional level there's nothing. Yes, it's great to see one's character/idea brought to life when one cannot draw. But it'll be the blandest stuff ever. That's just a shame.
#i would like to apologize for the environmental disaster my doing those 5 images triggered#at least it completely vaccinated me against doing it more#but yeah that's also why I pester about AI when I do traditional clothes or architecture research#coz clothes weren't all the same bland hyper sexualized things#but that's what's there because of AI#so uh...#no ai#mindless rambling#sorry for that just felt like sharing that random story of mine

Very interesting feature. Love this as an idea to get plenty of indirect light via partly covered window.

Architect Arne Bystrom is famous for his richly detailed wood construction, much in evidence in the kitchen and dining room. The furniture was also designed by Bystrom.

It's been a long time since I found a home made of recycled material and this one is exceptional. You gotta see this ecologically friendly, unique home, known as The Treehouse. Built in 1943 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, it has 3bds, 2ba, and is only $299,900.
If you've never seen one before, an upcycled home made of architectural salvage and recycled material is an interesting mix of various unique salvaged elements.
What an appropriate sign- "Humble." It's just a house made of humble inexpensive or free discarded and reused material. Note the 3 different colored glass windows. I bet they have some interesting stories.
The fireplace could be made from leftover bricks.
On the other side is the kitchen with an island made of window panes, and miscellaneous wood, plus a counter. You have to be creative to put all the pieces together to make a home like this.
Oh, I like the red cabinets on the right.
The cooktop is in the island and it looks like pieces of quartz or marble. Note the interesting cabinets and shelves. The ceiling has a delightful configuration.
They've got a water dispenser next to the fridge. I love houses like this.
Looking from the kitchen to the dining area. Wow, they even scored a double red sink. Note the cabinet that the cook top is in- things don't have to match.
The kitchen is large and has a nice leaded glass window and tile on the floor. Closeup of the counter shows how it's pieced together.
I love the pitched ceiling and windows.
This room appears to be a home office with a built-in counter.
One of the bedrooms has some mirrored doors on the closet.
Bath #1 has some lovely tile and a bowl sink.
Even the recycled cabinets match the color scheme.
This looks like a large primary bedroom.
It has a matching en-suite.
2nd story roof top deck that makes this home really look like a treehouse.
Even the exterior of these homes are made of salvaged material.
On the lower level there's a covered deck.
A cute wood burning heat stove in the corner.
Love the windows- one looks like a mushroom.
The house is on a 9,147 sq.ft. lot.

I like that wide window slit going around the front of the house, I imagine that lets a lot of light in.

dumping valley
#i got the idea for this piece from my hometown. the water is poisoned by illegal toxic waste dumping#but the dirt is sparkly from the mica-filled schist rock formation we're on top of#and i thought like. hey. what if there were these huge crystal formations. and they were toxic#so i came up with this idea for this planet covered in these crystals#these crystals are some sort of architectural super-material so humans use them until they realize they're SUUUPER carcinogenic#so they get dumped on the now-abandoned planet they were extracted from#(i kinda got inspired by that abandoned australian blue asbestos mining town)#fantasy#sci fi#science fiction#alien#environmental concept art#concept design#illustration#artists on tumblr#digital art#firealpaca#i <3 the lasso fill tool
