YABI Yet another ByteByteGo Infographic: This one shows the difference between a traditioanl CRUD (create, read, update and delete) system and a more contemporary event sourcing system. Both achieve the same end result but the event sourcing model is more resilient to failure and data corruption. It also scales well in a microservices environment.

Although the diagram does not mention it, the two systems can be used in a complimentary fashion. The CRUD system can be exposed as a typical REST API which is very well understood by developers and quite easy to develop to. Meanwhile, within the organisation the CRUD methods can easily proxy to events. The net result is a modern event sourcing system internally with a low friction REST API for integration.

fictives are just people. you wouldn't walk up to a person you saw on the news once while they're having dinner and say "holy shit guys it's Jimothy Cumwomble, great job on stopping that armed robbery, sorry your brother died in the process". that would be completely socially unacceptable - you'd be butting in on their life, overstepping not just their boundaries but basic social decency, and bringing up potentially traumatic life events. it's rude, infantilizing, and potentially directly harmful. so why would you do the same to a fictive just because you know, or think you know, their source?

and that's not to say "never bring up a fictive's source to them", plenty of fictives enjoy talking about their sources! but there's a little thing called tact. you can ask whether they're okay with talking about it, or join in on a conversation where they already are, even just a "hey if you don't mind could we chat about your source" would go a long way. but suddenly changing the topic to their source not just without warning but by singling them out as "weird" or "interesting" and saying things about their source that would never be appropriate to say to a singlet about their past is not cool.

TLDR, a fictive existing in a public space is not an excuse to single them out, put a spotlight on them, and bring up potentially traumatic parts of their history just because you think their source is neat. have a little common sense about timing and approach, or just let them exist in peace.

Hello everyone I am so unbelievably pissed about the NaNoWriMo situation that i'm going to take my massive stack of writing and craft books and my English degree and channel all my rage into making an email newsletter to send craft-oriented writing prompts and tips during the month of November. Say No to NaNoWriMo, but yes to WriMo. You get it.

I'm not going to make this have the same goals as Nanowrimo-- I'm not reskinning it but less ableist, I just really think having a whole month where people focused on their work is pretty cool and I want to keep up that spirit. This is going to be informal and run by Just Me, though I'll make a discord server if it's clear there's interest. Direct questions to @nowrimomo , which I literally just made and so will look like a skeleton currently.

I'm going to include prompts from various professional sources with options for Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Fanfic, so everybody can get in on this. It doesn't matter what you write, but we should all Write More.

holy shit a huge mob of people in amsterdam just attacked a bunch of fans of an israeli soccer team as they were leaving the stadium

there are videos of a group of people yelling "fuck you palestine," as well as of people wearing a keffiyeh and saying "free palestine" beating someone up. cnn has not been able to verify any videos as of yet

so far it looks like 10 israeli citizens were injured, and about 30 people have been arrested so far. jerusalem post adds that 1 person was kidnapped and at least 2 remain missing

the state of israel is sending two rescue planes to amsterdam to help israeli citizens return. israeli citizens have been advised to stay inside their hotel rooms, and the israeli and dutch governments are coordinating to safely transport israelis from their hotels to the airport so they can leave. us officials have already compared it to a pogrom

John Epler on Emmrich: "I mean honestly, I will say, like, we expected a great reaction to Emmrich. Went beyond what we expected for sure. But it’s been fascinating to see, because again, Emmrich is this character, he’s more of the professorial, more, he brings a wisdom and kind of a calmness to the group, so even when things are at their worst, there’s that one person in the group who is kinda like, ‘okay, y’know, we've got, let's figure it out, let’s take a deep breath’. And just his journey through his character arc, and his interactions with the others, it’s been fantastic to see. Even just finding opportunities for him to bounce off the other characters, you know, the way he talks to Bellara, the way he talks to Neve, it’s all so different, but it’s also just, again, based around this core of this warm, kind-hearted, professorial necromancer. Which, again, is not something you see a lot of in media. I mean, usually, necromancers are depicted in a very specific way. But it’s been, it's awesome to see how Emmrich has grown and just, really one of the most, one of my favorite experiences has been just working with Emmrich’s writer, working with Emmrich as a character." A question was asked - "From your companion's perspective, which previous companion would you romance?" Zach kind of has a thing for The Iron Bull, saying "oh that awakened something inside of me". He also likes Dorian. Jessica was too overwhelmed to answer. Nick was also overwhelmed by the question, but thinks Solas is sexy [source] [source]

Ali fangirled over Lucanis and Emmrich [source], prefers Emmrich [source]

A question was asked - "Is DA:TV and DA:I streamlined together?" [paraphrased]. Answer: DA games are not as streamlined as Mass Effect and act almost as standalones [source]

The cast were asked about which aspect of their character is their favorite. Ali loves the little quirks about Harding. "Lucanis is a good cook!?" ** Neve is very dry and pretty closed off about it. For Emmrich, it's the "exploration of the idea of death and necromancy" [source] (** FINALLY CITATION for this? :D)

A question was asked: "How do you decide to introduce the lore in each game?" BioWare answered that it depends as they build each game. They always know the base lore, and see opportunities through game mechanics and characters. They try not to infodump [source]

A question was asked: "Any favorite party banter?" Ashley Barlow said to listen for "hand to bone combat" [source]

The game takes place approximately 10 years after the end of DA:I. You start the game hunting for Solas. The game is built on some core principles: be who you want to be in a world worth saving and with characters that matter. The companions are always at the heart of DA and they are at the heart of this game too. [source]

The moderator asked John Epler about what is bringing this party of people ("this rogues' gallery") together. John: "I mean, it's the end of the world, and each character that you bring into your party understands that the world is ending, that they need to stop that, and you're really building, what I would say is, more of a found family. These are characters who may not start off liking each other, may not even start off liking you, but over time they grow to understand the importance of what they're doing and just, how critical it is to stop the elven gods" [source]

Ali didn't realize that Harding was such a beloved character. She thanked fans for bringing this character back [source]

Ali is super excited that the game is releasing. She said that there has been an evolution to Harding's character and that she's been chasing Solas for like a decade at this point [source]

On Manfred: Nick was asked what it was like having another character to bounce off of. He said "Oh man! I mean, that is such a hard question, because Matt and I have never met, and we worked completely separately, and, I, I mean I know that the rapport is really great, but it's in the ether, I mean it is just, the magic that these guys create, telling us how to respond, how to do that, but it's, I can't wait to meet Matt" [source]

Writing Proud Immortal Demon Way at the ripe age of 13 years old with absolutely no plan for his small webnovel was the second worst thing that Shang Qinghua has done. The first was dying at 17 and getting transmigrated into said novel as a cannon fodder character.

Things have been going pretty alright so far. He’s intent on staying loyal to Mobei-Jun, trying not to piss off his fellow martial brothers, and staying as far away from the whole drama of a young bullied Luo Binghe. Shang Qinghua’s too busy with making sure the whole mountain doesn’t collapse because no one handled the finances except for An Ding.

His previous life had more drama than this, which was really ironic considering the genre he was in. His old life he was mainly worrying about the times when his parents would get really drunk and fed up with him that made them throw him out of the house for a month. Being a (temporarily) homeless teenager wasn’t fun, especially since he didn’t really have any friends that would help—well, he sort of did until the guy tried to steal his organs one night when he was staying over so that effectively ended that.

His organs haven’t even been stolen yet in this life, which was a win in his book. The most taxing things on his mind nowadays were managing both the demon world’s and Cang Qiong mountain’s paperwork.

Funnily enough Shang Qinghua meets his fellow transmigrator bro through paperwork. Shen Qingqiu was always diligent with the task, not a hair or price range out of place. So when Shang Qinghua got the request for 5,000 fucking silver for ten new guqins from Qing Jing peak he suspected something might be up.

Shang Qinghua wasn’t an idiot, Shen Qingqiu might have had a qi deviation but he would never be this bad at making a budget. That left him with only one conclusion: there was another transmigrator on the mountain. He decided to go pay his fellow bro a visit.

Shang Qinghua didn’t expect that Shen Qingqiu has been replaced by a literal 14 year old kid. He was even more freaked out that the kid had first started reading his trash novel at the age of 10. PIDW was meant for readers over the age of 18 bro!!!

(Shang Qinghua was ignoring the fact that he definitely wasn’t 18 when he first started writing, or 18 when he died. That didn’t count. Besides he was like 25 now since he got transmigrated into the original goods when he was still a teenager, so he has matured greatly since then.)

Said 14 year old also ended up being his biggest hater, Peerless Cucumber. Shang Qinghua would be lying if he said he hated his biggest critic, he was actually very fond of the paragraphs the other typed up. It meant someone actually gave a crap underneath all the papapa and male power fantasy story.

The first thing Shang Qinghua taught the younger boy was how to fucking budget and the currency prices of this world. He had a damn peak to run and couldn’t afford a clueless transmigrator screwing up his budgeting system. After that he had to help his bro with creating lesson plans and teacher shit.

There was something incredibly funny about teaching a 14 year old on how to teach other kids significantly older than him. Then Shang Qinghua was reminded of his own age and how he probably wasn’t all that older than his head disciple and that became a little less funny.

Shang Qinghua considered himself as an older mentor to Yuan-er no matter how much the boy disliked that term. His proudest moment was teaching him how to make a Molotov cocktail out of scraps—which Yuan-er accidentally lit an abandoned house in a village on fire that they had to lie was demonic activity, but Shang Qinghua still considered it a success.

So when their bi-monthly peak lord meeting was coming to a close and Yue Qingyuan asked Shen Yuan to stay behind for a moment Shang Qinghua may have began eavesdropping through the wall. He had to make sure his bro was okay! Considering the history between Yue Qingyuan and the original goods who knows how this would turn out.

Yue Qingyuan sat at the head of the table looking at Shen Yuan with a small smile, “So sorry for bothering you when you’re very busy Xiao Jiu.”

“It is quite alright, though I hope Zhangmen-shixiong can make this fast.” Shen Yuan said flipping open his fan to hide his face. So graceful, ten points!

Yue Qingyuan chuckled before going back to a sort of melancholy expression. “I should have said something sooner, but I let my own selfishness consume me.”

Wait what was he talking about? Was he going to reveal some history to Shen Yuan about his past with the original goods? Shang Qinghua was never allowed to talk about that with his System breathing down his neck.

There was silence before Yue Qingyuan let out a wistful sigh, “I know you aren’t Shen Jiu. I have known for a while now. I haven’t spoken until now because you seemed so happy, I never got to see him happy before, and I slipped into greed of seeing him be a better person instead of facing the truth that it wasn’t him at all.”

Absolute pin dropping silence. He heard the crack of Shen Yuan’s fan as the boy obviously seemed to be in mental distress. Yue Qingyuan asked a singular question.

“Who are you?”

Shang Qinghua really regretted making Yue Qingyuan an observant character.
