On the Ex-Nihil

The Fighter Ex-Nihil represents the next step in military technology. These advanced fighter-bombers have allowed OxNiNE's Avia Sectus to establish unparalleled air superiority in the 20 years they’ve been in operation. The inside of an F-EN cockpit contains an array of bio-mechanical devices that allow the pilot to fuse, or couple, with the jet's onboard systems. Unlike a conventional computerized jet, the Ex-Nihil works in tandem with the pilots’ brain, eyes, and nervous system allowing for faster targeting and maneuvering. 

The F-EN monitors pilot biometrics and can modulate their blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, and secretion of hormones and neurotransmitters. Three hypodermic needles connected to tubes found in the back of the pilots seat aid in this process. Notably, these “hypos” will supply the pilot with a burst of endorphins and a potent cocktail of neurotransmitters whenever they take down a target. This induces a feeling of euphoria. it is not uncommon for F-EN pilots to grow addicted to the sensation that comes from eliminating enemy targets.

The key to the coupling is the Medulla, a central brain-computer interface located within the pilots helmet, which is connected by a series of tubes and wires to the inner systems of the plane. Upon entering the cockpit the pilot will strap into the seat, attach the bioelectric sensors, and put the carefully fitted helmet onto their head. The merging process, or coupling, begins automatically. A large hollow needle called the Axon Probe is inserted into the base of the neck and tiny wires are fed through the neck and into the pilots brain. These micro-dendritic wires create membrane potential on the pilot’s Pia Mater. Synaptic impulses are detected and sent to the F-EN’s onboard computer allowing for lightning fast reaction time. This operation happens in reverse as well; information from the onboard computer is sent through the micro-dentritic wires directly to the brain giving the pilot an extra-sensory view of the battlefield, atmospheric conditions, and relative target location. Targeting itself is aided by advanced eye tracking found in the pilots visor. 

Ex-Nihils are capable of extremely high speeds and high G maneuvers. Several systems are present to ensure pilots remain fully conscious during sortie. Upon coupling, a thin tube, called the Ox-Tube, is rapidly through the helmet, down the pilots trachea and into the lungs. During operation. a heavily oxygenated fluid is pumped into the lungs. Intubation is quick and does not require sedation. The fluid saturates the pilots alveoli and allows for 100% efficient gas transfer. This system offers an additional advantage; pilots need not focus on breathing while operating the Ex-Nihil. Upon de-coupling, the fluid will be pumped out of the lungs and replaced with an equal amount of air to prevent collapse. In order to facilitate high speed and high G maneuvering, the hypos will supply the pilot with vasoconstrictors and the Medulla will rapidly modulate the pilots heart rate to prevent gLOC. A series of bioelectric sensors are connected to the pilot to constantly monitor bio-metric data; two on either temple, three on each arm, two on either side of the heart. Powerful vacuum suction holds them in place. Flight suits are fitted with special pockets to facilitate easy connection, though some pilots prefer to modify their suits or partially unzip them to more easily apply the sensors. This must be done before the coupling, though the temporocranial sensors are automatically applied inside the pilots’ helmet.  Piloting an Ex-Nihil has major deleterious effects on the body and mental well being of the pilot. Repeated coupling and decoupling leaves them prone to increasingly severe seizures, or hardlines, as the brain struggles to cope with the sudden lack of information caused by the retraction of the micro-dendritic wires. The cocktail of neurotransmitters, medications, stimulants, and painkillers can damage the organs over time, especially the liver. Sepsis is common as well, caused by infection from repeated injections. To counteract this, all Pilots Ex-Nihil are placed on a strict post-sortie care plan by the ships’ Avia-Doktorae, the medical branch of the Avia Sectus. After decoupling, pilots are monitored carefully and given instructions for optimal recovery. Due to the intense physical stress and recovery time, it is recommended that pilots engage in no more than two sorties per week, though in times of extreme need pilots have been known to fly four to five times a week.

divorce au rundown

cw: mentions of assault/forced abortion but nothing more intense than the comics already deal with

- instead of being murdered in cold blood, sister’s dad just files for divorce🫶 yay🫶

- he goes on to marry a girl he used to know in high school (she’s my beautiful oc she’s irrelevant really but i like her.) after she comes around again and they’re able to overcome the stuff that kept them from taking things further when they were high school sweethearts (a protestant boy and a catholic girl CANNOT be together🙄)

- sister’s mom goes on and marries the reverend very shortly after the divorce is finalized and everyone is Certain that there was cheating involved but nobody has said it outright with sister’s dad insisting that it’s a private matter and sister’s mom saying that it was just love at first sight

- the reverend is still fucking evil but only gets to terrorize the kids every other week so they manage to get by (but not without their biweekly screaming match with him)

- weekly switch offs just happen at church every sunday since sister’s dad and the reverend are always there anyways so it just makes sense. on weeks that the kids have particularly pissed the reverend off you can absolutely tell because he’ll crash out during mass and the sermon will entirely be about the importance of obedience and respecting elders (sister’s dad is holding back his laughter but has to act disappointed when they’re driving back home because evennnn if he dislikes the reverend he doesn’t want to make the girls think it’s okay to be cruel to him)

- sister gets assaulted at school which she ends up telling her mother and the reverend finds out because her mom hates her so they’re doing everything in their power to kick everything under the rug. sister’s dad isn’t informed about any of this because the reverend/her mom don’t want him contacting the proper authorities or pursuing it in the way it Should be and is just very worried for the few consecutive weeks that sister spends with her mom who’s been keeping her home until she feels that things have dealt with. with enough begging from sister she finally is able to visit her dad with her sisters and it’s extremely difficult on her

- then of course things get worse because she’s sister imperator and nothing is ever funny is her life. another month later she’s getting sick repeatedly at her dad’s house and pregnancy symptoms are starting to kick in. things get so much worse for her because as much as the reverend would love to make an example out of her and punish her for literally just being alive, he also knows that having a pregnant teenager in his house would just look bad for him considering it would speak to his parenting and lack of a stern hand. her mom and the reverend make her get an abortion with some sketchy doctor out of the state and of course they’re making it as scary as humanly possible for her because they could not give a single fuck about her wellbeing throughout all of this. meanwhile they’re still keeping her dad in the dark about everything and as much as sister would like to tell him, there’s that lingering fear that he would think of her differently for it or that all the things the reverend has said about it might be true and her dad might see that if he knew. she’s cooped up in her room at her mom’s house throughout the recovery period and hardly to talks to anyone, has a hard time even speaking to her sisters who will sit up in her room to keep her company or bring her food.

- marika & co. move to america for their father’s job (no circus☹️) and the kids are all around 17-26 (youngest to oldest: nihil, marika, brotha 1, brotha 2, farkus). sister is going into her final year of high school (16 yrs old) the summer that the family moves to her city.

- marika and sister make fast friends when they run into each other one day <3 marika is a server at the diner that sister, the twins, and her dad visit after church and the two chat each other up a bit because they’re not too far in age and after seeing each other for three sundays in a row they finally make plans to hang out for real

- the reverend and sister’s mom hear about her new friend from out of town and manage to get her to invite marika’s whole family and it’s like…. a total nightmare. everyone is nervous. the reverend asks them if they’ve already found a church in the area and mentions that he hasn’t seen any of them during mass. they tell him that they’re catholic and are attending a service down the street which he tweaks outttttt about and starts talking about how catholics are evil/how they’re going to hell for worshipping saints/etc.

- despite this marika is still cool with sister and they settle for hanging out at her dad’s house from then on (not that the reverend allows her to have people over/visit other people’s houses when it’s her mom’s week anyways). her dad is just sooo grateful to see that sister has made a friend because the reverend has kept her so isolated that she hasn’t ever really had her own group, just keeps to herself and her sisters

- sister meets nihil when she’s staying over with marika and marika has to pick him up from work (local auto repair shop <3) before she heads home with sister. nihil is trying his hardest to be respectful to both sister and marika because obviously hitting up his sister’s friend is low. but ugh she’s so smart and funny and the way she snorts when she laughs at his jokes is soooooo cute and she’s always eyeing him when he’s around and he’s certain that she likes him too.

- sister will drop by marika’s house after school even though she knows marika is still working for another hour just so that she can chat nihil up and talk to him without the pressure of being Super polite with him around marika

- one sunday marika is sick and can’t make it to work so nihil offers to go in to cover her shift and he is kind of being a dog about it. keeps stopping by sister’s table to check up and talk with her and joke with the twins meanwhile sister is giggling blushing twirling her hair about it all but her dad is just. absolutely fucking flabbergasted because RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY SALAD….? but he’s genuinely being so sweet about it all, brings sister an extra cup of syrup since she’s alwaysssss drowning her damn pancakes whenever she has breakfast with his family the morning after she has a sleepover with marika. nihil Accidentally forgets to charge them for sister’s meal because he’s trying to be nice but sister’s dad is not letting it slide partially because his commitment to honesty and god or whatever but he also can’t be letting this boy think that sister owes him anything🤨🤨 he’s half watching in horror as sister leans in to talk to nihil and telling him that he should actually get a job here so that she can see him every sunday because like….. when did this happen and WHO is this stupid boy omg…

- nihil and sister end up confessing to each other (nihil coming to her first about it) because the guilt is literally eating them alive, they can’t handle keeping this secret from marika and they need to get it out in the air so they can “get over it” and go back to normal. WRONG. once they realize it’s a mutual thing they’re nottttt keen on letting it go and they’re certain that marika could forgive them for this all

- it Does cause a rift in sister’s relationship with marika for a solid week once she finds out but marika isn’t so much upset about the fact that she’s dating her brother but more so the way she lied/omitted the truth and didn’t feel that she could trust her enough to share that info with her. but it’s okay they’re best friends forever and after a week of silent treatment and sulking they both come crying to each other about it and how much they missed the other

- one thing about sister imperator is that she loooooves her cars and nihil knows that. anytime a fancy or expensive vehicle comes into the shop he immediately is calling her up if she’s at home or telling marika to bring her by just so she can see it (and maybeeee he lets her sit inside of it just to check it out but don’t tell his boss🙄). once they’ve really started dating, nihil picks her up from events and school and all of that just to spend the extra time together and pick up lunch afterwards buttttt sister is insisting that he should let her drive since he’s always the chauffeur and she wants to return the favor. nihil is confused because he’s never seen her drive before and wasn’t even sure that she could but she flashes him her drivers permit (not that he actually recognizes the difference from the small glance, he’s only been in the states for a few months at this point anyways) and insists that she’s a good driver. anyways she gets pulled over for speeding and she’s in pure panic mode telling him to swap places with her while quickly explaining that Maybe she doesn’t officially have her license yet but she’s had enough experience so it’s fine just as long as the cop doesn’t realize it was her driving. nihil is too shocked to say anything and just does what she says, helps her over his lap so he can scoot into the drivers seat and talk to the officer and hopefully work his way out of the ticket that sister has gifted him.

- once nihil and sister are getting serious they’re obviously having dinner with each other’s family/having their parents meet each other and it’s kindddddd of messy😭 nihil’s family invites sister’s dad/stepmom over for dinner and overall it’s nice, they get along well and her dad appreciates how connected their family is but also….. he’s seeing farkus, unmarried, two babies from two different mothers, still living in the family basement and he’s kind of tweaking out because he does NOT want his baby to end up like that. he’s side eyeing nihil and trying to explode him with his mind before he even gets the CHANCE to consider pulling some shit like that

- nihil having dinner at sister’s house for the first time goes extremely well because he’s a people person, he’s great with the twins and can keep the conversation going. her parents like him (even though his haircut is stupid and gay looking…….) and although they’re wary about him not being in school at his age (he’s 17 and should technically still be in school with sister), they appreciate his work ethic and the focus on helping support his parents/siblings. he obviously still gets the “if you’re evil to my daughter i will actually fucking shoot you” talk but sister’s dad can see that nihil makes his daughter happy so they don’t have much issue with each other (other than his haircut🙄)

- nihil knows he can’t really be affectionate or do anything with her during the weeks she’s staying with her mom buttttt he’ll stop by her dad’s house the sunday she comes home and drop off flowers for her while they’re still at church <3 sister tries to act really cool about relationship things in front of her dad and she’s trying to keep a straight face when she pics up the bouquet but she can’t help but giggle and blush about it just a little bit

- sister’s dad is reallyyyyyy iffy about her sleeping over at marika’s house now that her and nihil are dating but he tells her that he trusts her to not make poor decisions which is stressing sister out. like ugh what if i trip and fall and we accidentally start making out in his room. which absolutely would not happen because she respects marika too much to do that with her around and doing it during their time together but…. there IS that hour she usually spends talking to him after school where only the two of them are home…….

- sister invites nihil to prom because she doesn’t have anyone at school that she could take and she doesn’t want to go alone plus she doesn’t want to miss out on that classic romance situation. he’s obviously willing to do anything for her and gets all dressed up and picks her up from her house (swearing in his life that he’ll get her back by her 10pm curfew) but it’s kind of awkward for him. these people technically are around his age and by all means Should be the crowd that he hangs around but their experiences are just so different that it feels weird for him. meanwhile sister is having a great time proving to everyone that she DOES have a boyfriend (“he doesn’t go to school you wouldn’t know him” does nawttt strike as a good explanation for most) and that he has a really awesome attractive accent. as sister might put it “he’s like so mature and making below minimum wage as a mechanic and doing odd jobs like omg just get your oil changed or something tiffany and maybe you’ll see him🙄🙄” sister feels like hot shit for real, everyone is looking at them because nihil is tooooo goddamn big and he lowkey sticks out like a sore thumb with his build combined with his longer hair. after prom when they’re getting ready to go home, sister is trying to kiss up on nihil and as much as he would love to partake in some awesome car sex while she wears her fancy dress he’s too stressed out about missing her curfew. he’s so bent on making a good impression/proving that he’s good for her to her dad that he actually gathers the strength to nudge her off of him and forget about his penis long enough to tell her that it’s almost 10 and they should head to her place.

- farkus’ stupid baby is teething and it’s an absolute mess of screaming and crying Every Single Night and nihil hasn’t gotten sleep for the past week. he’s so desperate that he drives over to sister’s house in the middle of the night and when sister’s dad answers, he immediately spills everything and begs him to let him sleep here just for the night. sister’s dad is super understanding of it and knows that nihil can’t risk losing his job over poor performance because of the lack of sleep so he collects all the stray pillows and throw blankets in the house and gets nihil set up on the couch for the night. nihil gets the best sleep of his life and he even manages to sleep in because he doesn’t have to listen to the noises of six other people getting up and getting ready for work (the worst offense is sister turning on the radio at 7am but even that is sleeping in for him). the twins see him on the couch when they’re coming down for breakfast and are immediately yelling at sister about how she didn’t tell them her stupid boyfriend was staying the night which IMMEDIATELY gets her stumbling down the hall because she was notttt informed about this. she is very disappointed that she couldn’t have snuck him into her room during the night which is the exact reason that her dad did not wake her up to tell her about it😭

- sister gets into her first serious argument with her dad about her future and her values/choices in life and it’s hard on both of them because he’s usually the laid back parent, usually it’s the reverend or her mom throwing things like this in her face so naturally she’s super defensive about it all and when he actually threatens to punish her??? it’s so joever. packs her bag and storms out telling him that she’s going to stay with her mom but she winds up on marika’s doorstep begging her family to let her stay with them and obviously they let her in. she’s so locked in and upset about the situation that she’s swearing that her and nihil should just run away together and that they can figure things out on their own but nihil has to talk her down because nooooo it does nawttttt work like that😭 sister is just crashing out because she feels that she is too old for her dad to try and dictate certain parts of her life and is willing to do anything to have that sense of control over her own choices and her future. her dad freaks the hell out when he realizes that she is Not in fact at her mother’s house and because sister has so few connections, he already knows the next place to look is at her best friend / boyfriend’s house. marika’s mom is able to calm him down when he gets there and gives him the whole “trust me i have 5 kids i’ve been here too. just give it a bit” and promises that she’s making sure sister stays out of trouble. and just like mama marika said, sister winds up back at home all teary eyed because the argument was stupid and she misses her family and she also misses her cat who she didn’t think to take with her.

- nihil’s family inviting sister to mass with them to get to know her better and because they figure it might be a good opportunity to introduce her to their values/culture/etc since she isn’t super family with catholic doctrine. she’s not extremely religious so she doesn’t really care but when she tells her dad that she’ll be joining them on sunday, he’s trying to be super respectful and keep it all in because although he doesn’t Hate catholics….. he also doesn’t want his baby converting just for some stupid boy……… nihil’s family isn’t extremely religious, they’ll attend mass for holidays/special occasions/ and the few times that they actually are available (aka everyone is in the mood to be up and dressed by 8am). like the first time they found out farkus had knocked someone up they immediately went to church and made everyone pray about it because it was super serious to them😭 by baby #2 it was more like okay cool see you at the baptism or whatever

- for the summer before her senior year, sister has to go to some stupid christian camp with her family because both her dad/stepmom are working there and she doesn’t really want to stick around with her mom/the reverend for an entire summer. nihil is absolutely devastated because he was hoping to have more time with her since they didn’t need to worry about her school schedule but it’s fine😔 he asks if he can write to her but sister tells him no and that she doesn’t want to draw any attention to their relationship because of the fucking nature of the camp duh. but a week or so in nihil can’t help it, he misses her toooo much and ends up sending her a letter which sister is actually equally excited about when receiving it (not to mention all the other girls think it’s so cool that she has a boyfriend AND that he actually writes to her). both nihil and marika send letters for the next two months and at the end of the second month, sister invites them to some big community event the camp is holding where everyone invites their families/friends/etc. they all spend the time catching up and nihil is trying to be polite and not be super obvious but he literally just wants to hold and kiss her because he’s missed her so much. when she walks them back to their car as they’re getting ready to leave, nihil pulls sister into the backseat for a fewwww quick kisses while marika smokes outside and keeps watch. it’s not anywhere near enough but it’ll hold him off for the next month and give sister something to think about before bed <3

- a few months before graduation, nihil is going to sister’s house soooo nervous and sweaty and shaking knocking on the door asking if she’s home. sister’s dad gives him a look and tells him to No she isn’t, she’s at her mom’s this week and nihil just goes “okay good. can i uh come inside??” and her dad is starting to get the sense that something weird is up and he is RIGHT because nihil is there to ask for his blessing to marry sister… her dad is caught so off guard because he hadn’t even really considered the idea that their relationship would end in marriage although he obviously knew they were serious about each other and had been together for nearly two years now. nihil swears up and down that he’s going to wait until she finishes school and properly graduates etc because he doesn’t want to distract her with this and sister’s dad agrees on that. it ends in her dad agreeing and the general consensus that no matter what, it’s what sister wants and her decision comes before anything.

- the proposal drama continues for wayyy too long because it’s lowkey only nihil and sister’s dad that know (and marika obviously she helped with the ring but she’s trying to stay back so she doesn’t spill anything to sister) and they’re both freaking out about it😭 sister’s dad comes into the auto shop one day and surprises nihil because he’s starting to get nervous and wants to know Exactly how and when nihil plans on proposing but it’s only making nihil even more nervous because he’s not even entirely sure sister will say yes or if this will interfere with her future plans…. they do this several times over the next two months with nihil randomly visiting the church to ask him for advice/how he proposed to his “wives” (which sister’s dad shuts down because he doesn’t have Wives he has an ex wife and a current wife🙄). they’re kind of crashing out over this together while sister’s stepmom and marika are sure that things will pan out perfectly and that there’s no need to stress when the relationship is obviously a loving one. anyways it Does end up going well, a few weeks after sister graduates and the stress of all that has calmed down, nihil takes her out on a nice picnic just the two of them and privately asks her to marry him <3 she says yes and they’re both very excited (and relieved) and just so happy to start planning for a future together

- things are going well and they plan on a small ceremony in august, something cheap and local and soon enough that they can start putting their focus on finding out what exactly they’re going to do with their lives and all of that. however nihil’s dad ends up having a heart attack and dying sometime in the middle of july which sets things off a bit. the next morning before word has really gotten out, nihil kind of stumbles to the church still in shock/stuck in a daze from everything looking to talk to sister’s dad to tell him that they need to set the wedding back a bit (which he immediately takes as a “what the fuck why are you having second thoughts” way but quickly realizes that something else is happening). her dad is super nice to him, offers to drive him back home and help his family with the funeral arrangements and anything else they might need because although they aren’t necessarily part of his church, he’s still a deacon and community stuff matters to him no matter what (especially when it comes to your future son in law). her dad warns sister about what happened and tells her to be easy on them etc etc

- anyways they figure things out and have a nice and rainy september wedding but neither can complain about it all because they’re just so happy to finally be together <3

sometimes i feel like during the process of my deconstruction, i've dismantled so much of my old religion that i've gone too deep and dismantled my own identity.

i've thrown out the whole "put your identity in the church" stuff, and i feel like i've been left with nothing, like i'm floating through a void, so to speak. i was taught so much to put all of myself into god and into the church that when i left, i left myself behind as well.

i'm a nihilist atheist, and that's all i've really got going for me. i don't feel as though i have any specific identity or meaning. i don't really know if i'll ever get that back, and i don't really know how i feel about that prospect.

I've been writing a story. I think it's pretty cool!! Maybe you'll like it. It's called Ex-Nihil and it's a queer (and extremely kinky) story about a young woman who is forced to pilot the Mecha-inspired "Ex-Nihil" fighter jet by a technologically advanced/brutally fascist nation-state. Mainly, it's about the the very fucked-up relationship that develops between her and her Handler. It's dark, it's tragic, it's scary, it's very horny. Lots of cws on this one. Huge inspos are the Ace Combat series, Gundam, Armored Core, Dune, and a few other things here and there.

I'm gonna use this blog as a place to word vomit about my stupid fictional universe, and post little snippets of writing and lore and stuff like that as well as links to the chapters themselves once I'm ready and brave enough to post them online. I'm reading another of your series (Deus Ex Machina, I think it's called?), and it is another really good fic. I like the way your prose reads, it flows super well! The way you write is very engaging, and I'm always reluctant to stop.

And I like Deus, they are a very cool character, and in my eyes, a perfect foil to Adam. Once I read all three parts, I'm rereading it.

Ah, the Deus Ex Nihil series. That's the first real stab I took at Adam. Rough around the edges but it has its charm. I think you'll like how it develops :)
