1.Charity Match 2016 - The Beginning

St. Mary's Stadium was buzzing life. People are shouting, vlogging, chanting. You're sat first row away from the field. Clutched in your hand is a handmade sign that reads, "GO HARRY GO," written in obnoxiously large glitter letters. You made it to mess with him more than anything else. Just friends, after all. Best mates since school... and nothing more.

Harry spots the sign during his warm-up on the field. Doing a double take of which dissolves in laughter. He jogs to the sidelined.

"You're actually insane," he calls out as he jogs.

You grin as he comes closer to stand on the sideline. "Only for you, Harold."

He catches your over-exaggerated blown kiss and dramatically throws it to the ground like he thought it be the worse thing in the world. The banter's easy with him, drawing a fine line between joking around together and flirting.

You watch the match, yelling out his name every time he gets near the ball. He doesn't score, but he gives it everything. When the final whistle blows, you make your way over with the crowd of fans and friends.

"You were class," you say as he wipes a towel across his forehead.

He shrugs, smiling and resting the towel across his shoulders. "You screaming my name name helped, obviously."

You laugh, in hopes of hiding your blush. That's all it is. Laughter, friendship, teasing.

But later that night, scrolling through blurry videos and clips of the match, you pause on a still of Harry looking in your direction.

And your stomach flips.

A small part of hope settling.

2. Charity Match 2017 - A Shift

This year, it's bigger. The Valley. More fans, more camera, more pressure. But Harry is still the same. Loud, energetic, clumsy and confused.

Before kickoff, he jogs over to where you're standing just beyond the pitch - your special access lanyard granted from Harry.

"Nervous?" You ask.

"Only cause you're here," he says casually, then smirks. "Gotta impress my girl with the special lanyard." He reaches for your lanyard and giving it a tug - pulling you closer ever so slightly.

You roll your eyes, but your cheeks flush at the sudden closeness. That wasn't normal banter. Was it?

He play like he's on fire. Scores a goal and points at you on the sideline. You swear he winks but just think maybe your mind was playing tricks on you.

Later, backstage with everyone buzzing, you find him in the hallway - freshly showered. He was wearing sidemen merchandise; his hair still damp from the water.

There was no cameras. No crowd.

"You looked good out there," you say. It feels heavy. Almost like you meant a double meaning.

He pauses. "You always look good."

Your eyes meet. Nether of you speaks. For the first time in your friendship, silence is loud.

You laugh nervously - brushing the comment under the mat thinking he meant nothing of it. "Smooth."

"I try."

A voice is heard from behind him, Simon calling him back to film some extra parts. You bid goodbye and walk away, and he watched you go.

And for the first time, you're both wondering: what are we doing?

3. Charity Match 2018- The Almost

The energy this year is electric again. Harry's in top form, yelling instructions, cracking jokes. Your sign this year is smaller - a picture included, but he still beams when he sees it.

You're pulled into the afterparty later than planned, a little tipsy from champagne floating in the warmth of another successful day. You find Harry leaning against a balcony, looking out over London, a beer in his hand.

"Hey you," he says when you join him - offering a sip of his beer to you. "Didn't lose you to Tobi's dance floor domination, then?"

You smile, taking a swig on the beer and handing it back - folding your arms next to him.

There's a long pause - he turns to look at you.

Really look at you - taking it all your features.

You turn with a puzzled look.

"I've been thinking about us," he says finally.

Your heart skips. Your heart beating for the conversation you have been waiting for.

But before Harry can continue, Tobi calls him from the inside before he can say more. You glance at the doorway, then back at Harry.

"Later?" You say.

He nods, eye soft. "Promise."

But later never comes.

You both leave the party in different Ubers.

4. Charity Match 2022 - The Kiss

After a few years of no matches, the return is massive. The stadium is packed, and millions are watching the livestream. You're standing on the sidelines again, lanyard still around your neck - curiosity of Harry again.

You and Harry have stayed as close as ever. Always texting, calling, somehow orbiting each other without crossing the line - the 'later' conversation never coming up once again.

As the players warm up, you're chatting with Talia and Sarah when Harry jogs by.

"He's practically glowing," Sarah says, grinning.

"That's the Y/N effect," Talia teases, nudging you.

You roll your eyes - use to the constant teasing from the group, but you can't help smiling.

During the match, every time Harry touches the ball, JJ and Ethan standing on the sideline shout exaggerated commentary in your direction: "And he's looking to impress someone in the stands!"

When Harry scores a long rage banger, he doesn't celebrate with his team.

Instead - he runs to the camera, blows a kiss, then mouths your name.

The internet erupts - reposts everyone all over Twitter; as fans start recalling every shared moment between you and Harry.

After the final whistle, the players are swarmed by fans and staff, but Harry makes a beeline for you.

"I don't care if everyone knows," he says, breathless. "I've been pretending I haven't been in love with my best friend for years. I'm done."

Your hearth thuds.

Tobi and Simon spot the two of you from a distance, and immediately start whistling and clapping like idiots.

You grab Harry's shirt and kiss him, right there among the boots, jerseys and sidemen.

"Not with you here," he says, pressing a kiss to your temple.

As the match begins, the boys are relentless - as they have been the past year constantly teasing you and Harry.

Ethan shouts from across the pitch, "Harry, don't mess up! Y/N's watching!"

JJ joins in with exaggerated swooning every time Harry runs.

You're in the stands next to Freya, who is laughing every time the camera cuts to your reaction.

Harry scores again, of course. The celebration is simple this time - a heart drawn in the air and a wink your way.

After the match, he records a behind-the-scenes vlog, dragging you into frame.

6. Charity Match 2025 - The Proposal

You feel it coming all day.

He's acting weird, not nervous, just - shifty. Like he's got secrets. And for once, not the kind he'll tell you... yet.

The match is intense. He misses a shot early on, then comes back with a clean goal in the second half. The crowd goes wild.

But instead of a celebration, he runs to the sideline. To you.

You blink, confused, as he stops in front you, catching his breath.

Then he drops to one knee.

The stadium freezes. Even the players stop.

"Y/N," he pants, eyes wide and full of love, "you've been there for every match, every goal, every miss for so many years. I don't want to play another one without knowing you're mine forever. Will you marry me?"

Your heart could burst. You throw your arms around him.

"Of course I will, you idiot."

The stadium explodes. You lean down to press a kiss to Harry's lips. The Sidemen rush to his side after, Tobi lifting Harry onto his shoulders while Ethan leans up to give you a hug.

That night, at the celebration party, Harry holds your hand tight.

"Told you I'd score two for you," he says, kissing you knuckles as he admires the ring.

Your scored the one that mattered."

an: i had so many ideas but i decided to do a wired interview because i honestly love these. i went a little too extra with this one tho and it’s lowkey chaotic af.

You’re not nervous.

You’re just strapped to a machine that monitors your pulse, breathing, and capacity for deception, sitting across from your real-life boyfriend-slash-former nemesis while cameras roll and a complete stranger watches for signs of romantic weakness. Totally normal. Very chill.

Drew’s already grinning like he’s been waiting his whole life for this. His legs are sprawled out in that irritatingly confident way, and he looks like someone who definitely still texts “u up?” for fun.

��Try not to lie,” he says, tilting his head. “I hear the machine hates liars.”

You blink once, slowly. “Good luck, then.”

The technician gives a thumbs up. The camera starts rolling. You resist the urge to roll your eyes so hard they leave orbit.

It begins politely. Names. Roles. Basic stats.

Then Drew gets cocky. “Would you say I’m your favorite cast member?”

“No.”

The needle stays flat.

He gasps. “Cold-blooded.”

You smile sweetly. “You’re top five.”

“There are six of us.”

“Exactly.”

Your turn.

“Did you or did you not call my character ‘forced’ before ever speaking to me?”

Drew shifts. “Allegedly.”

The machine screams LIE like it’s offended on your behalf.

You hum. “Interesting.”

“In my defense,” he says, “you walked into that readthrough like you’d already fired half the writers.”

“And you looked like you hadn’t slept since 2017.”

Someone off camera chokes. You don’t look. Drew’s trying not to smile. He’s failing.

You get off track quickly.

“Be honest,” he says. “You rehearsed your Truth or Dare roast, didn’t you?”

You pause. “Maybe.”

The machine beeps loud enough to make the intern flinch.

Drew laughs like he’s just caught you cheating on a test. “Knew it.”

“You told the entire table that I looked like a ‘girlboss-themed Bond villain.’”

“Yeah, and that was improv.”

“That’s what concerns me.”

You try to sabotage him next.

“Did you know you liked me when you sent that stupid meme about Rafe needing therapy and a father figure?”

He stares. “No comment.”

BEEP.

You press your lips together. “Joseph Andrew Starkey. You caught feelings over a shitpost.”

He mutters, “It was a good meme.”

It spirals from there.

“Did I annoy you during season two?”

“Yes.”

“Do I still?”

“Yes.”

“Are you in love with me?”

“Shut up.”

Truth.

You raise both brows. He looks like a man deeply regretting his life choices.

“Say it again?” you ask.

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’ll make it your ringtone.”

He’s not wrong.

Eventually, the technician cuts in, trying to regain order. You and Drew both ignore him completely. Someone behind the camera whispers, “Just let them go.”

You’ve lost all structure now. It’s just chaos and bad decisions.

“Have you forgiven me for the hoodie I stole in Atlanta?”

“Which one?”

He closes his eyes like he’s praying.

“Would you trust me to act opposite Timothée Chalamet?”

He blinks. “Absolutely not.”

“Why?”

“Because you’d fall in love and I’d have to fight him.”

“…You think you could win?”

A long pause.

“…Emotionally? No.”

You nod solemnly. “That’s fair.”

Somewhere around the fifteen-minute mark, you stop remembering this is for Vanity Fair. That millions of people will see it. That you’re both supposed to be promoting a show and not emotionally exposing yourselves on camera like two feral raccoons in love.

Drew looks at you like he always does—like you’re either going to kiss him or ruin his life. (It’s always been both.)

You cross your legs, lean back, and say, “So… still think I was a bad fit?”

He smiles, slow and sheepish. “No.”

Truth.

You lean forward, elbows on the table, voice low. “Did you fall for me before or after I told you to grow up on set in front of the sound guy?”

He grins. “Right then.”

Truth.

You hum, pleased. “Knew it.”

When it’s over, you both stand at the same time. The technician is sweating. The producer looks like he needs a drink. The footage will need a thousand disclaimers.

Drew bumps your shoulder with his. “You gonna be nice to me now?”

You eye him. “Define ‘nice.’”

He leans in, smirking. “You’ll text me later.”

You scoff. “You’ll text me first.”

He shrugs. “Yeah. Probably.”

The machine would call that the truest thing he’s said all day.

For the last 14 years, when it rains in Lowndes County, Alabama, contaminated standing water builds up around Annye Burke’s home. When the septic tank breaks down, raw sewage backs up into her toilet, she said.

Although “frustrated” by the unhealthy and inconvenient conditions, Burke said she doesn’t let it get her down. Human wastewater contaminating homes and yards in these rural parts of central Alabama “has become a way of life,” she said. The problem has existed so long and was so pervasive that a 2017 study determined 1 in every 3 adults in the county had the intestinal parasite hookworm.

The Biden administration investigated and allocated nearly $26 million to rebuild Lowndes County’s water infrastructure, with the Department of Justice declaring the majority-Black area was suffering from “environmental racism.”

But earlier this month, President Donald Trump issued an executive order to kill the deal, calling it “illegal DEI.”

The DOJ’s Harmeet K. Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for civil rights under Trump, said the agency “will no longer push ‘environmental justice’ as viewed through a distorting, DEI lens,” referring to diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

A 2023 investigation sparked by environmental activist Catherine Coleman Flowers and conducted by the DOJ found that low-income residents of the county, most of whom are Black, have lacked basic sanitation services for generations. Given the area’s especially hard, impermeable soil and the high cost of installing private wastewater systems, many residents have resorted to straight piping to deal with human wastewater. This method involves guiding human wastewater away from the home into a series of ditches and crude piping systems, according to the DOJ report. That water collects in nearby yards, open areas and woods.

In more recent years, heavier rainfall related to climate change has meant that contaminated water floods into the home, spills across open areas, and contaminates local vegetation and water, exposing residents to illness.

And so, Burke and more than 300 other families in Lowndes County — located about 40 miles southwest of Montgomery — are forced to live with a failing water infrastructure that has led to serious health concerns, including hookworm, which at one point had been thought to be eradicated from the United States, according to a 2021 study by the Baylor College of Medicine and the Alabama Center for Rural Enterprise.

Hookworms are mainly contracted by walking barefoot on soil contaminated with infected feces. It can cause abdominal pain, skin rashes, diarrhea, fever and other ailments.

“We have to be extra sanitary because people getting sick can be a problem,” Burke, 58, said. “The health concerns are real. In 2025 we shouldn’t have to deal with this, but it is what it is.”

She said she uses various disinfectants multiple times a day to clean her home and protect her family, which includes her children and grandchildren who come to visit.

This environmental quagmire has persisted for more than 20 years in this rural part of the state, where 72.4% of the population is Black and the median household income is $35,160, according to the latest census; one-third of residents live below the poverty line. Flowers said that much of the problem started back in 1866 with the passage of the Southern Homestead Act, when Black people were first allowed to purchase land there and were offered mostly places that were environmentally unsafe.

In recent decades, it’s not uncommon for untreated sewage to flow from some residents’ toilets into their yards or back up into their homes through sinks or bathtubs. Drinking water from the tap is out of the question. Some residents have dug ditches in an attempt to drain rainwater away from their homes.

Flowers, who grew up in Lowndes, has been fighting for 23 years to fix the water infrastructure in the county. Her efforts led to the Biden administration’s $26 million commitment. She said Trump’s cancelation of the agreement did not surprise her.

“There are some people who are not going to make it a priority to get this work done,” Flowers said. “That’s the way it’s always been.”

Alabama Rep. Terri Sewell, a Democrat who represents the area, said in a statement that the DOJ’s reason for abandoning the deal was weak.

“This agreement had nothing to do with DEI,” Sewell said. “It was about addressing a public health crisis that has forced generations of children and families to endure the health hazards of living in proximity to raw sewage, as the DOJ itself documented. By terminating it, the Trump Administration has put its blatant disregard for the health of my constituents on full display.”

When announcing the results of the 2023 investigation, former Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke said the Justice Department found evidence that suggested Alabama’s Department of Public Health showed “a consistent pattern of inaction and/or neglect concerning the health risks associated with exposure to raw sewage.”

Sewell added that the burden to “remedy this injustice” fell to the Alabama Department of Public Health. But the ADH said in a statement to NBC News that “the installation of sanitation systems and related infrastructure is outside the authority or responsibilities.”

A second statement from ADH said the department had received $1.5 million of the funds from the Biden agreement and used it in part to pay for three septic tank installations. With the remainder of that money, ADH will pay a contractor to complete more work by May 2026, according to the statement. Trump killed the agreement before any additional funds could be distributed toward fixing the water infrastructure.

Annye Burke said her daughter, who lives next door, is in a dilemma because she was hoping to receive a new septic tank when hers recently collapsed. She’s lived the last four years with her water issues.

“Being raised in the country and at one point of having to use outside facilities, I know how to make do,” Burke said. “I just take one day at a time and pray about it and keep moving on. I don’t let it get me down. But my daughter grew up differently, so I worry about how she deals with this stuff.”

Flowers, the activist, said that while she hopes the agreement will be reinstituted, she has seen communities come together to make change. Last week, she pointed out, she was in Mount Vernon, New York, where sewage issues were resolved with the combined work of the city, county and state government.

“They fixed it because they should have,” Flowers said. The problem was discovered in 2021 “and it’s fixed five years later. I’ve been working on this in Lowndes County since 2002.”

Some families have been able to afford to move away, but many cannot. Then the connection to the land is also a factor, said Flowers, who spent her childhood there and whose father was raised in Lowndes County.

“My family has been in Lowndes County since slavery,” Flowers said. “It’s home for people. Why would we want to move? That’s where our people are buried.”

Changing homes is not just about occupying another house.

“We’re talking about giving up a culture,” she said. “So, we will continue this fight.”

Michael remains completely still as he observes the paused frame. A frame of you mid-sprint in the background of the classic horror movie, being chased by Ghostface. Anyone else would argue about whether that's really you, but Michael already knows. He's seen you move like this before. Maybe he's even chased you this way.

Without a word, he switches discs. He presses forward on the console.

And there you are -blurry in the background of a trick-or-treating scene in some other horror media, dressed as a generic babysitter, chatting with another actress. It's barely a second of screen time.

Michael turns his masked face toward you, his posture unreadable.

You shrug. "I needed money. It was just background gigs."

He keeps staring.

Stalker mode: activated.

Jason Voorhees ⛺🪓

You're leaning against his shoulder, a throw blanket draped over both of you.

Jason tilts his head, then turns to you, then back at the screen, then to you again.

If he could speak, he'd be asking "When was this?"

If he cared about emotions, he'd be offended.

You've been in so many slasher movies and never once did you mention it... Are you okay? Have you been running from psychos your whole life? He's almost worried about you.

Expect some extra protective hovering and a machete presented as a gift of comfort.

Freddy Krueger 🔥🌙

"Oh-ho-ho! Look at you, Hollywood! Running for your life again! What's your IMBD looking like, sweetheart? Professional Screamer?"

Freddy cackles, pausing and rewinding just to enjoy your panicked face.

"Damn, you're good. Ever considered coming to MY movies?" He waggles his claws at you. "Bet I could give you some real nightmare material." He's joking. Mostly. But you might want to lock your bedroom door tonight.

Just in case.

Ghostface (in general) 📞🔪

The moment your familiar figure flashes across the screen, Ghostface pauses the movie so fast the remote nearly cracks in his grip.

"Well, well, well… what do we have here?" His voice drips with amusement, though there's a sharp edge of something else... Interest? Possessiveness? A touch of jealousy? Hard to say.

He leans forward, taking in every detail. "You didn't tell me you were in Scream, getting killed by other Ghostfaces -or Halloween, or Friday the 13th, or literally every horror movie ever made.... Even in Child's Play?!"

He clicks his tongue, pretending to be offended. "And here I thought we had something special."

His gloved fingers tap against your thigh as he considers. "So, do you always run from killers, or are you just playing hard to get?"

A chuckle follows, dark and playful. "You know, I could give you a much more… hands-on experience than any of these amateurs."

He lets the movie roll again, but now he's watching you, not the film. "Final girl, background character, victim... Doesn't matter. You'll always be my favorite scream queen."

Leatherface 🪚🌾

Leatherface watches in silence. A chainsaw in his lap, forgotten.

He doesn't understand movies too well, but he does understand that's you being chased by someone who isn't him.

Excuse me?

You let someone else do the chasing? And you never told him?

Next thing you know, he's pacing, huffing under his breath. Expect extra possessiveness and a LOT of lingering looks.

Also, if that actor playing Ghostface suddenly goes missing… you know nothing.

The Grabber (Albert Shaw) 🎩🎭

The room is dimly lit, the glow of the TV flickering against the walls as A Nightmare on Elm Street plays. He turns to you, eyes glinting behind the sockets of his signature mask. A low chuckle rumbles from his throat. "Look at that."

His voice is smooth, almost teasing. "You're so good at being scared."

He fixates on the screen, watching the way your body moves, the way you fight to survive. Something about it simply delights him.

"You know, you'd look even better in my basement" he muses, his tone almost affectionate. "No cameras. No audience. Just you and me."

His gloved fingers tap against the armrest. "I wonder if you'd last as long as they let you in the movies…"

Then, suddenly, he laughs -light, breathy, as if the thought genuinely amuses him. "Maybe, you'd last even longer... If I want you to."

Pennywise (1990) 🎈🍿

Bob Gray is having the time of his life watching you in all these horror movies. He's laughing, cackling, absolutely thriving.

"Y'know, I could've given you real horrors to perform, kiddo!" His grin stretches wide. "And that running? Pfft! Amateur work! You should see how kids run from me!"

"Oh-ho! There you are again, kiddo! Look at you run! And run! And run some more! Boy, you really know how to make a monster work for it!"

But then, he sees him. His replacement. His knock-off.

The smile fades. He leans forward, elbows on his knees, squinting at the screen like a father seeing his daughter bring home the wrong guy.

"You've got to be kidding me."

"Look at this guy. Thinks he's scary." He flicks a dismissive palm at the screen. "Ooooh, I'm tall! Ooooh, I drool all over myself! Ooooh, I wear frilly clown pants like I just crawled out of a Victorian nightmare!"

He turns to you, voice dripping with sarcasm. "You fought this guy?"

A wheezing laugh escapes him. "Honey, you downgraded! Big time!"

"He tastes fear? Kiddo, I invented that shit. He's just doing a cheap impression of yours truly. And let's not even talk about that goofy-ass head-tilt he does."

He jerks his head side to side in an exaggerated impression. "What's the matter, buddy? Need a chiropractor?"

With a smirk, he throws an arm around you, pulling you close like some sleazy salesman. "Listen, sweetheart, if you really wanna be haunted by a clown, why not go with the original? Hmm?"

His sharp teeth flash you a smile. "I'm funnier. I'm nastier. And I won't just stand there like some awkward mime in oversized shoes."

Pennywise (2017) 🎪🩸

Pennywise watches, slowly tilting his head. Then tilting it more. And more.

"You run so well" he purrs, voice thick with amusement. "You know… I could chase you better."

He grins, showing sharp teeth. "Would you like to practice?"

Is he joking? Is he serious? It doesn't matter.

The moment he spots you in IT -in a grainy, VHS quality shot of Derry- his entire body stiffens. Then, his gloved fingers start twitching against his knees. His lips part in something between a sneer and a pout.

"You… you were in his movie?" His voice drops into a guttural growl. His yellow eyes flick between you and the screen, utterly insulted. "That knockoff? That circus reject?"

For a moment, he says nothing. Just stares.

Then, suddenly, he bursts into shrill, mocking laughter. "Ahaha! Oh, I get it! You were doing charity work!"

He claps his hands together, the sound unnerving.

"Helping the less fortunate! That's just so sweet of you!"

He stops laughing a little too abruptly. He looms closer now, voice dipping into something almost sultry, eyes gleaming in the flickering light.

"Tell me, little star…" His grin is wide, impossibly sharp.

"Did he taste you, too?" His head jerks to the side with a sickening crack. "Or were you saving yourself for someone better?"

Before you can answer, his arms snap around you, yanking you into his lap. His breath, hot and damp, ghosts over your throat.

"You're mine now" he coos, teeth just barely grazing your skin.

"My movie. My horror. My little leading lady." His grip tightens possessively.

William Afton (Book Version) 🐰🔦

Book Afton doesn't just watch the screen.

He studies it.

Cold, calculating eyes track every movement you make, every scream, every desperate attempt to escape. The slight twitch of his lips is the only sign of amusement -well, that and the way his fingers tighten around his armrest just a little too hard.

"All those killers" he murmurs, voice as smooth as velvet. "And yet, you always slip through their fingers. Fascinating."

His smile is thin, mirthless. "I wonder… is it luck that keeps you alive, dear girl?"

His fingers reach out, slow, deliberate, tracing a ghost of a touch on your wrist.

"Or instinct?"

His eyes glint dangerously. "I'd like to find out."

And then, he moves.

One second, he's across the couch. The next? You're caged against the armrest, his breath chilling your skin.

"You scream so pretty for them." His voice dips lower, like he's enjoying the chase. "Let's see how pretty you scream for me."

William Afton (Game Version) 👾📺

"We do love a good game of chase in this establishment." He smirks tiredly, tapping his fingers against the desk. "Perhaps you'd like a private audition?"

That's a yes whether you like it or not.

"Hah" he exhales, voice deep, rich and unmistakably British. "Now, that's just precious."

His pale eyes dilate as he watches you on his computer screen, just another background character in a slasher film. "You're terrified, aren't you?" His smirk grows. "And yet, you survived. Brave, little thing."

He clicks his tongue, straightening.

"You know…" he begins, casual, like talking about the weather. "Slashers today are so messy. Bloody, predictable, boring…"

His fingers flex, like he's imagining them wrapped around something. "But me? I was crafted for this. A mind sharper than any knife, a body that refuses to die…"

His smirk sharpens, dark amusement flickering in his irises. "And of course... I don't just chase, darling. I build my nightmares."

He watches your reaction, drinking it in. "Animatronics, trap rooms, hidden passageways… There's no running when the entire building is designed to keep you in."

A low chuckle escapes him. "Now… wouldn't that be fun?

"Oh? No, no, darling! I'm not going to hurt you... I thought you'd be impressed by... this. By my brilliance. Can we at least have a drink later?"

William Afton (Movie Version) 🍕🗃️

Afton watches in eerie silence.

"Hmm."

His expression is unreadable, but you can feel the gears turning in his head. "You have a habit of escaping things, don't you?"

A pause. Then, a half smirk.

"How interesting." He doesn't say more, but from that day on, you swear he watches you just a little too closely. Maybe you shouldn't have let him see that.

"Ohh, now we're talking!" William practically purrs, leaning back on the couch with an easy grin.

"Look at you! Little horror darling. Final girl energy, but still gets caught. Mmm, chef's kiss."

He actually makes the gesture, grinning at the screen like a director admiring his finest work.

Then, his expression shifts. Turns sharper. Hungrier

"But you know, sweetheart… these guys? Hack jobs." He gestures lazily at the killers on-screen.

"Me? I play for keeps."

His fingers trail down your arm, slow, teasing. "Never made you wonder if the monster really wanted to hurt you… or just wanted to keep you?"

He laughs, the sound warm, playful -dangerous.

Slender Man 🌲🚫

The static hums through the speakers before the screen distorts. The lights flicker. Something in the air shifts... and you know before even turning your head -he's watching.

Slender Man stands in the shadows, unmoving, unreadable. He has no eyes, no expression, no face -and yet, the pressure of his gaze coils around you like an unseen force. A protecting one, to your relief.

You appear on the screen, a fleeting glimpse -a background figure, passing through some darkened corridor in a forgotten horror film. His head tilts, impossibly slow, almost… curious.

A long limb raises, fingers tapering into nothingness. He reaches -not toward the screen, but toward you.

The images on the television distort again. The signal is lost, replaced by static.

A silent message. A warning.

Or an invitation.

Then, the shadows stretch. The dark pools at the edges of the room, deepening, swallowing the corners. The walls feel further away than they should be.

A whisper brushes the nape of your neck, though no words are spoken.

Writing a "Wise" Character

Wisdom

The ability of an individual to make sound decisions, to find the right—or at least good—answers to difficult and important life questions, and to give advice about the complex problems of everyday life and interpersonal relationships.

The role of knowledge and life experience and the importance of applying knowledge toward a common good through balancing one’s own, others’, and institutional interests are two perspectives that have received significant psychological study.

Aristotle believed in 2 types of wisdom:

Theoretical - involves the exploration of things we can’t change, but about which we seek truth.

Practical - explores that which we can change through making good choices (Lacewing, n.d.).

Descartes viewed wisdom as:

good judgment in everyday life and

seeking knowledge in all things one is able (Rutherford, 2017).

Confucius said, "By 3 methods we may learn wisdom:

First, by reflection, which is noblest;

Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and

third by experience, which is the bitterest."

Although a definition is difficult to come by, agreement on what wisdom is not, have been much easier.

Researchers agree that wisdom isn’t a result of aging.

They also believe that higher IQ scores don’t equal increased wisdom.

What role does age play in attaining wisdom? Can a child be wise?

Current research indicates that the “optimal age to attain wisdom is about 60 years old” (Compton & Hoffman, 2013, p. 201).

Balance Theory of Wisdom

He defines wisdom as “using one’s:

intelligence,

creativity,

common sense, and

knowledge” to balance 3 life domains:

They are interpersonal, intra-personal, and extra-personal interests.

People do this over the short and long-term.

The goal is to achieve balance among:

adaptation to current environments,

shaping of those environments, and

choosing a new environment

Baltes and Staudinger (2000, p. 124) define wisdom as “expertise in the fundamental pragmatics of life.” This is further defined as “knowledge and judgment about the essence of the human condition and the ways and means of planning, managing, and understanding a good life.”

Through their research, they developed 5 criteria for evaluating wisdom-related performance:

Factual (declarative) knowledge which asks, ‘What does one know about human nature, interpersonal relations, and social norms?’

Procedural knowledge criteria answers, ‘What strategies does one use to navigate the twists and turns of life?’

Lifespan contextualism criteria consider questions like, ‘Where does everything fit?’ ‘How are things interconnected?’ and ‘How are the various roles – education, family, etc. connected?’

The relativism of values and life priorities allows for the tolerance of differences in values between people.

Recognition of and management of uncertainty criteria acknowledges that we don’t know everything. There are limits to human processing.

Ardelt (2004, p. 257) in contrast to Baltes and Staudinger (2000), viewed wisdom as an “integration of cognitive, reflective, and affective personality characteristics.”

She argues that preserved wisdom (writings) represent theoretical (intellectual) knowledge.

This knowledge doesn’t become wisdom until or unless the person internalizes it.

For this to happen a person must experience the truth contained in the preserved wisdom. Doing this leads to the person becoming wise(r).

Meeks and Jeste (2009) reviewed the wisdom literature and identified common areas. From their review, they created the 6 sub-components of wisdom:

Prosocial attitudes/behaviors: promotion of common good, empathy, social cooperation, and altruism

Social decision making/pragmatic knowledge of life: understanding others’ emotions and motivations and using the information to make “wise” social decisions

Emotional homeostasis: self-control and impulse control; ability to manage oneself in challenging situations

Reflection/self-understanding: self-knowledge

Value relativism/tolerance: perspective-taking behavior

Acknowledgment of and dealing effectively with uncertainty or ambiguity: navigating uncertainty and acknowledging/accepting the limits of what one knows.

Their review also is interesting for its inclusion of specific brain regions believed to play a role in the 6 sub-components.

Peterson and Seligman (2004, p. 39) define wisdom as “knowledge hard fought for, and then used for good.”

They describe it as a noble virtue or trait — one that people appreciate in others.

To date, 5 strengths fall beneath the wisdom umbrella in their research:

Creativity

Curiosity

Judgment

Love of Learning

Perspective

Each of these strengths exists in every person to some degree.

They also can increase in prominence as you learn to use them more.

These strengths are part of a larger list consisting of 24.

The measurement of wisdom is challenging, but not impossible. Most research falls into one of 3 areas:

wise process

wise product, or

wise persons

It’s the combination of these 3 that yields what researchers now agree about: Wise products are generated by wise persons using wise processes.

Issues

Character strengths can be over/underused.

The goal is to achieve optimal use of each of the 24 as needed.

Following are examples of issues arising from over/under use of particular strengths (Niemiec, 2018).

Extreme creativity leads to eccentricity, but a lack of it leads to conformity. We strive for adaptive originality.

Someone who is overly curious is nosy, but a lack of curiosity leads to disinterest. Strive for a balance between exploration/seeking novelty.

Narrow-mindedness and cynicism are judgment “gone bad.” People who lack good judgment tend to skip reflecting on situations. Balanced use marries critical thinking and rationality.

Know-it-alls flaunt their love of learning. Complacent people don’t care. Strive for deepening your knowledge systematically.

Extreme use of perspective is overbearing, and a lack of it is shallowness. A wider view is optimal.

With another tale to spin.

So many days spent working on this...and it was worth it.

A lineup of the main cast for a Talespin reboot set in the 1990s. I had to do quite a bit of research into the fashion trends of that decade to ensure everyone fit in. To be frank, I'm impressed with how easily (almost) all of them take to the aesthetic.

As for how this sort of reboot would work as a show, I have a few loose concepts I might consider posting in the near future, both for reimaginings of classic episodes as well as crossover events, considering I envision this taking place a few decades before the events of the 2017 Ducktales reboot.

Here's some information on what they'd be like along with my thought processes on the character designs from left to right:

Baloo von Bruinwald - Papa Bear here wasn't particularly hard to pin down. I just had to jazz up his wardrobe a bit with a jacket and glasses, really. If I could pick VAs in real life, I'd go with James Monroe Iglehart because not only does he have that deep bouncy voice that invokes the perfect blend of devil-may-care and warmheartedness (Lance Strongbow from Tangled: The Series) but the man can also sing (Asmodeus from Helluva Boss), something we should have gotten more from Baloo in the original Talespin. Besides, it'd be interesting and fun to explore a Baloo with black coding on top of the German ancestry the original Talespin gave him as well as his original Indian heritage from the Jungle Book.

Rebecca Cunningham - Now Becky here definitely got the biggest makeover in terms of redesign. As much as I don't mind her original look, it really needed her personality and VA's performance to do all the heavy-lifting and felt like a product of the time. That's why I decided to depict her and Molly as Plains Cree (hence the added ponytail), not merely for the sake of diversity but to help introduce conflicts that feel genuine and less forced with a nonwhite-coded character. As for voices, Deedee Magno-Hall would work well as her time as Pearl on Steven Universe shows she can do motherly figures but also depict that neuroticism that's key to Rebecca's character flaws.

Bagheera - Yes, that's right. Baloo's original spouse is here like he deserves! Like any rebooter worth their salt, I had to figure out how he'd fit into the universe, especially since I want to incorporate his friendship with Baloo and the other Jungle Book characters - so I decided to make him a former S.H.U.S.H. agent who now works as Higher for Hire's second pilot. There'd be a whole arc centered around him having to confront his past because of F.O.W.L. causing trouble and everything. Now for his design, I decided to go for simple by giving him a very "dorky dad" look as way of making him seem unassuming. Personally, I'd pick Riz Ahmed (Ballister Boldheart from Nimona) as the VA as I headcanon Talespin Bagheera to be Indian-Pakistani. Plus, Ahmed is a dedicated rapper and the idea of Bagheera dropping a diss-track is just too good an idea to pass up.

Shere Khan - Nothing changed. Aside from the flower and cane, nothing about this man changed at all. Really, it's stupefying how little formal business attire has changed between the 30s and 90s. So, I added in an orange gerbera (a symbol of strength and resilience) and a badass cane for extra flavor. I also headcanon him as Chinese-Indian by the way, so make of that what you will. Now while I know none can truly replace Tony Jay, I believe Christopher Judge (Kratos from God of War 2018 and Ragnarok) would come pretty dang close on account of his intimidatingly booming voice and the way he delivers dry wit.

Don Karnage - As time consuming as he was (the teeth especially), I think Karnage's redesign is by far my favorite. Something about him in that flowing coat with the open chest fur just works. In terms of lore, Don Karnage would stay more or less the same, albeit he'd be like that old man struggling with all the doohickeys cropping up. He'd be voiced by John Leguizamo (Sid from Ice Age and Bruno from Encanto) who can do surprisingly good villains, like in Violent Night, yet can still come off as hilarious.

Wildcat - To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if I'm OK with the look I gave him, but I do like the idea of Wildcat rocking a beanie, so I'll keep him this way for now. Other than that, I'd prefer to keep Wildcat as much of an enigma in terms of backstory as the show did, just to preserve that sense of amiable chaos he's so good at bringing. By the way, I'd let his original VA Pat Fraley keep voicing him cuz if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Molly Cunningham - Other than giving her pants longer legs and getting rid of the bow, Molly's not too different. The most noteworthy detail I added would be the cuff bracelet on her wrist. I based it off of this trinket posted on Facebook a while back based on traditional Plains Cree beadwork since I figured that'd be easier for me to draw. For a VA, I'd give her Dani Chambers (Molly from Epithet Erased and Becky Blackbell from Spy x Family) since she's pretty good with voicing cute yet sassy young girls. Kit Cloudkicker - Ah Kit, the one the Ducktales reboot did so unnecessarily dirty. Not to worry, he's still as much of an aviation prodigy here as ever. Besides, it'd be far more interesting to explore a Kit who tries too hard to instead emulate Rebecca, even if unintentionally, to the point of burnout. As for his fit here, I simply switched out his beloved sweater for a nice two-toned jacket. For voices, I'd go with Justine Lee (Ken Amada from Persona 3: Reload) who can pull off sounding like a young spirited boy quite well. Simon Zhong - The only original character in this lineup. Ya'll who follow me might recognize him from all my Kit x Simon art. He's mainly here to serve as a nice chaotic counter to Bagheera (the two of them will parallel Baloo and Kit naturally) as well as a living bridge to potential conflicts with F.O.W.L. I decided to give him a grunge look since black is so prominent in his design, not to mention a Pac Man ghost shirt to hint at his fixation on video games. If he were to be a character in a real-life reboot, despite being pretty laconic, I'd go with Charlene Yi (Ruby from Steven Universe and Chloe from We Bare Bears) since she's got that crackling voice that has its own unique charm.

Louie - Yeah, I gave the main man the Florida treatment. Honestly, I think he looks even better this way. Aside from deeper lore on his history with Baloo and the other Jungle book characters, I wouldn't change much else about him. On that note, like with Wildcat, I'd stick with his original voice actor, Jim Cummings in this case.

Marcos - And now for the guest of honor. Say hello to Don Karnage's singing, prancy, and oh so theatrical nephew (who may or may not take over as captain one day). Because yes, yes this kid will in fact grow up to become the Don Karnage we see in the Ducktales reboot! Between an uncle who keeps berating him for "not acting like a real pirate" and a one-sided rivalry with his uncle's former protege, Kit, poor Marcos has quite the chip off his shoulder. In light of that, Alanna Ubach (Manny Rivera from El Tigre and Mamá Imelda from Coco - God, that woman has range) would be his VA as she can pull off voicing a bratty and overconfident Latino kid pretty well.

Overall, this would be a pretty stacked cast.

As for the background, I'd rather hold back on explaining that until I start posting some more of my concept art. But I'll give you a hint: Memphis style. And that's all ya'll are getting from me (for now).

Talespin, the Jungle Book movie, and all relevant characters belong to Disney. I only own Simon and the idea of this reboot.

A BioWare Guide on How to Murder a Fanbase

I have been a Dragon Age super-fan for almost fourteen years, now. I have played every game, with every DLC. I have read every novel, lore book, and every comic — yes, even the terrible ones that are better off forgotten. I have seen the anime film, the animated series, and the web mini-series. I have enjoyed all of these pieces of the franchise over and over, more times than I can count. So, make no mistake: the negativity you’re about to hear comes from a place of love for this fantasy world, developed by many creative people over the years. I would love nothing more than to see the resurrection of passion in the Dragon Age fandom again. But the unfortunate truth is, that resurrection is only needed because BioWare took the fandom out back and shot it in the first place.

In December 2018, three years after the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser epilogue DLC, BioWare first announced the then-untitled next Dragon Age game with a teaser trailer. At this point, most fans were anticipating this would mean within the next couple years, we would see the game. This assumption was based on the fact that Dragon Age: Inquisition was first announced in 2012, and released in 2014, with an extra year of development added last minute.

There have been dribbles of extra content since then, adding to the franchise. This was enough to keep some fans still breathing and interested. 2020’s Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights was a lovely anthology. 2020’s Dragon Age: Blue Wraith and 2021’s Dark Fortress were wonderful comics tying up the story started in Knight Errant. And 2022’s Dragon Age: Absolution was a well-animated series with an interesting cast of characters and story. But all these still left the fandom with a major question: What was going on with the next game? It was untypical of BioWare to be so secretive, in comparison to how they handled sharing information of the past games in the franchise. The only form of updates fans still have to go on is mostly just concept art and short stories, hinting that something must be in production. But why was the wait so long?

In 2015, the first version of the next Dragon Age began with a clear vision, clear scope of practice, and a reportedly happy developer team. Most gloriously in my book, there was no multi-player… but this did not align with the Electronic Arts typical money-mad schemes. EA’s push for “games as a service” meant they wanted to monetize all their games as much as possible, and therefore, they wanted them to be a live service — as Anthem demonstrated, that meant sacrificing things that are staples of good RPGs, like narrative and character choice. So in 2017, version one of the next Dragon Age was scrapped and replaced. This new version would have, in total or to at least some degree, an online portion of play.

There is one part of Schreier’s article, “The Past and Present of Dragon Age 4,” that really sticks out to me, regarding this:

“One person close to the game told me this week that Morrison’s critical path, or main story, would be designed for single-player and that goal of the multiplayer elements would be to keep people engaged so that they would actually stick with post-launch content.”

The idea of splitting up components of a game into single-player and multi-player is a terrible idea, because it means that there would be a large bulk of content only accessible through online gaming; something many fans, like myself, are repulsed by. Even if I did enjoy it, I spent most of my life growing up with either no internet or shoddy internet incapable of playing online games. I know many rural people who are still in that position, losing more and more of their favourite gaming pastimes because they are locked out of the ability to play them. It is a disservice to hide content behind a wall like this, especially in a world that is so lore-heavy like Dragon Age. The news of multi-player in Dragon Age understandably upset many, and this is when I first noticed a large drop off in excitement over the next game.

However, in 2021, the failure of Anthem (multi-player) and success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (single-player) led the executives at EA to bend to the wishes of BioWare leadership and allow them to go back to the drawing board yet again on the next Dragon Age. This meant removing all multi-player content!

While I am very happy that there will reportedly be no multi-player in Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, I can’t help but feel bitter and a little disgusted over the ridiculous development time spent on something no one but EA wanted in the first place. If it weren’t for this foolishness, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf would be in our hands right now. Instead, it’s been in development hell for nearly nine years and counting. Nine years is a long time to expect fans to carry a torch for you through radio silence, but it’s no wonder BioWare has shared barely anything about the next game; it’s been in flux for so long, they likely haven’t had anything concrete to show.

BioWare hurt its reputation even more when the news broke that the studio very suddenly laid off 50 people who were working on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. This is pretty damning on its own, but BioWare took it a step further. Former developer Jon Renish shared a statement revealing that the studio was only willing to offer laid-off employees two weeks of severance per year of service, and denied health benefits. The denial of health benefits in particular is a pretty wild move for a studio with a reputation for “stress casualties”. The latest news on this is that BioWare has still so far refused to negotiate better severance packages, leading to a lawsuit. The lawsuit originally had 15 former employees, but this dropped due to the fear of not being able to afford to pay their bills. So now, while EA sits on $400 million net income, the laid-off employees are struggling to buy holiday presents for their children. These horrid business practices are not to be ignored when accounting for a lack of faith in a studio. What kind of monsters reward workers who make your games special with vaguely reasoned lay-offs?

The latest news on the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf front from BioWare came early this month, December 2023, with a trailer… announcing a trailer that will come next summer… that will announce the release of the game. Supposedly. Maybe. We’ll see. But by this time, BioWare is something of a laughing stock of their own fandom. Reactions to the video released with a pretty map graphic and a few rendered locations were, from what I personally observed, mostly sardonic in nature. People have commented on the vapourware nature of the game, and like all vapourware, that leads to disintegrating trust.

Despite all this, people like Mary Kirby, (one of the veteran Dragon Age writers who was a victim of the layoffs,) said, “it’s bittersweet that Dreadwolf is my last DA game, but I still hope you all love it as much as I do,” encouraging fans to still support the game when it eventually is released. But after every misstep BioWare has taken, that’s a tough sell now. Fans are finicky, RPG fans more so than others, one could argue. We have our favourites, and many of us stick to those favourites for life over our appreciation for the artistry — but that relationship between studio and fan should go both ways. EA and BioWare has betrayed that relationship, and it will take a hell of a lot to build it back up again, now.

Authors Note: it’s my first time writing on tumblr so bare with me I also haven’t haven’t written anything in like years I used to a Wattpad author in like 2017-2019😭 so imagine what I used to be writing. It’s not my best peice of work but it’s progress kinda messy icl in terms of storyline but it’s something anyways I hope everyone enjoys it 💗

You had just signed a contract with vogue for a new segment they were trying out for they’re YouTube channel called “Under the Covers”. It was in a podcast style in a bedroom setting hence the name and basically talking about the latest fashion trends tips or anything black girl related.

You were so grateful for this opportunity never in your life would you have imagine a little black girl from London was able to sign a massive deal with vogue. The topic of todays video was maintenance. How you maintain standards for yourself if that means relationship, mental or physical health. So instead of it being in their studio you wanted your video being a bit more homely so why not in your home. The producers had set everything up in your room making sure everything was ready for filming but this video was going to have a little extra twist. You were going to have your very first guest and they how they managed to maintain their life and overall humbleness with the fame he had gained over the years.

You kept your relationship on the down low on the respect of each other careers and not wanting to surround your relationship over it. You were actually calm with that but he wasn’t liking seeing people he fucked with in your dms with heart eyes.

Little did Yn know he was going to announce it in their video together.

“Okay I’m going to count down from 5 and we’ll start filming” said the producer

“Hi Vogue it’s me Yn/ln and welcome to our new segment called Under the covers where uncover beauty secrets fashion and every black girl related. But today’s video things are little different we’re in my actual bedroom and I have a special guest with us he’s one of my favourites rappers right now a current world wide sensation Central Cee”

“Yes you did you’re also my most listened to artist on Spotify we’ve defo talked about this”

You rolled your eyes and continued with the video

“Anyways let’s get straight into todays topic: maintenance. How to do maintain eye yourself to keep your life somewhat stable”

“I guess keeping my mum,my brothers, my fans and my girl happy innit. If they’re happy I’m happy” said central cee never straying away from eye contact from the love of his life

“And what you say is the hardest one to keep happy and why” Yn was very curious about this who knew where this could go

That was probably the most beautiful thing he’s said in a while she didn’t know he felt like this she sometimes she can be a bit rude and her sarcasm can be taken the wrong way but she thought he knew between the lines that she didn’t hate him she lived more than anything.

“I think you should talk to her about your feeling more Yk. Don’t be shy on opening up more Yk. When you feel ready ask her what she thinks it’s possibly lacking” she smiled at him with reassurance hoping that he could through her eyes that’s it okay and she was listening

“Yh your right imma tell her right now!”

Yn chocked on her drink. He could not be serious. She should’ve known this boy was up to something

“As in right now!? I’m sure she’s busy” you said trying to get to him to change his mind

“Nah she’s not im calling her rn”

For someone who didn’t like interviews this but sure had a lot to say

Everyone was looking at you. You knew the producers were loving this but you were not this was too much.

you usually loved his smile but this was just devious.

“Do I have to” you were just dreading this

Everyone shouted yes. You rolled out bed and a grabbed the phone

“Yes Cench we can. You wanna cuddle too?”

The video was going well there was laughter within the whole room. You asked him the question that you were assigned to ask him everything was going great. You loved being under your lovers arms. Maybe letting people in wasn’t so bad.

A knock on the door you both looked at door and someone opened to little boy running in crying and jumping to Oakley’s arm. How many surprises could one video take you said to yourself in your head.

“What’s up little man” Oakley now went into full father mode his whole rapper persona was switched and all he cared about was understanding why his little boy was upset

it was raining; pouring even. the sky was grey and the field you stood anxiously waiting on was soaked through now. your shoes and legs were muddied from your previous activity, your wet hair falling down your face along with the droplets of rain that trailed down your features. the girls beside you chatted quietly amongst themselves, whilst your focus was on the coach in the middle of announcing the third place volleyball team. your fingers were crossed at your sides, and your bottom lip was anxiously pulled in between your teeth.

it typically never rained on this day. it worried you.

for as long as you could remember, you had attended the area’s yearly sports festival as the captain of your school’s volleyball team. even as a small child, you had always done your best and brought home a trophy. every year prior, your team had always been awarded first place.

you looked across the field, towards the bleachers. sim jaeyun sat with his elbow atop his knee and his palm supporting his head. he looked miserable, his eyes on his muddied shoes rather than on you. for the first time in his life, his team had placed second. he was a striker for his high school’s soccer team now, having lived the same experience as you had. every year, his team won. and every year, the two of you would celebrate together.

for the past twelve years, you had considered jaeyun to be your greatest friend. you’d done everything together. your families would meet up for dinner every friday night, each of your family holidays had included him, you’d went to the same schools until high school, you’d always attended the same sports festival together every year. he was this little ray of sunshine in your life, seeing him was always something to look forward to after a harrowing day at school. it had always been just you and him, until recently.

it wasn’t the different schools that got in the way of your friendship, it was his attitude. he befriend a fellow soccer player named park sunghoon. sunghoon was sweet to you, considering you a friend of his own and pushing his way into your lives. it never did make sense as to why jaeyun had suddenly become this angsty teenager that seemed to have outgrown you. maybe it was for a few extra points for his reputation, knowing that still hanging around with a girl he’d met as a toddler would certainly be a critical hit.

after a gruelling week of intense volleyball games, and the worst bout of summer weather known to man, you heard your team announced as first place. the team erupted into a course of jumping and squealing and squeezing each other into tight hugs, and then they thanked you for being their encouraging captain as you always were. winning games was not the only aspect of this annual competition. it was the teamwork, morale, friendship, skill, strategy, and overall attitude towards the games that gave you this trophy.

since joining the team, you had formed satisfactory friendships with each of the girls. however, none of them came close to jaeyun.

when you spun around to face him, you already knew it wasn’t going to be like it always was. he wasn’t going to come charging across the field to pick you up into the air and spin you and scream about how the two of you were surely going to become famous athletes. the volume around you grew muted and a high-pitched ringing sound violated your ears.

sim jaeyun was your lifeline. each time when you came crying into his arms, knees and elbows bruised and a claim to finally give it all up falling from your lips, he would remind you of your love for volleyball. he was always so vocal about how proud of you he was, and the old him would never leave you feeling this way. his hugs were better medicine than watching cartoons beside a large mug of hot chocolate whenever you had the flu. but he wasn’t standing here with you, squeezing you in a hug and shaking you about.

you weren’t so naive to expect him to stick around forever, but knowing that things were truly different, it hurt nonetheless.

as if on autopilot, you accepted the trophy with a forced smile and held it up for your coach to take a picture. and then you handed it off to your teammates, politely excusing yourself and thanking your team for working so hard.

when the event came to its inevitable end, you sat alone on a cold, metal bench as the rest of your team made their way onto the bus. your coach stood talking to another, umbrella above her head and a cigarette between her lips. the rain was bouncing against your raincoat and soaking through your socks, the greyness of the skies now matching your mood.

your head snapped up at the sound of jaeyun’s voice. he was walking beside sunghoon, his bag slung diagonal across his school uniform as it always was. he had his hands in his pockets as he bluntly replied to his teammate. you quickly stood, your shoes moving against the gravel alerting them of your whereabouts. sunghoon waved you goodbye and headed for his own bus.

‘hey,’ you smiled, barely able to see him beneath your hood. you expected him to smile and approach you, pulling your hood over your eyes just to hear you complain about him messing your hair up. ‘you played well today.’

he was walking over to you slowly with a blank expression, still with his hands in his pockets.

‘not well enough,’ he shrugged. you began to walk in step with him, across the gravel and towards the buses. when you looked his way, he was still avoiding your eyes with that look of a kicked puppy across his features.

‘you shouldn’t think like that, jaeyun,’ you shook your head as you stopped and placed your hand on his shoulder as a means to comfort him. ‘this event isn’t about winning.’

‘that’s exactly what it’s about, y/n,’ he shrugged your hand away and began to walk ahead of you.

‘you’ve won every other year,’ you reminded him. ‘one year isn’t going to hurt.’

‘easy for you to say,’ he spun around to face you, causing you to stop once more, completely taken aback. ‘your team won. and how is that? i don’t know… that’s the worst i’ve ever seen you play.’

‘what?’ you picked up the pace once he set off again, and stopped in front of him to block his path. ‘i know you’re upset, so i’m choosing to ignore the hurt you’re trying cause. why are you being such a sore loser?’

‘i’m not just saying it because i’m upset,’ he rolled his eyes. ‘your team is mediocre at best, always just winning by one point, but you still take home the trophy because nobody actually cares about volleyball. you’re devoting your entire life to the biggest waste-of-time sport in the world, and all of your hard work isn’t even paying off. and i have to be the one to hear you talk about quitting every other week, when i know you’re not going to even though you should.’

‘what’s wrong with you?’ you spat, glaring up at him. ‘are you really acting this way because your team came second?’

‘are you telling me you wouldn’t be this upset after all of the hard work you put into this?’ he glared back at you, his eyes portraying nothing more than pure hatred and envy. ‘whatever, i don’t have time for this. my team is waiting.’

‘don’t you dare walk away from me!’ you called as he stepped away from you. ‘if you get on that bus right now, i can promise you that i will never speak to you again.’

he didn’t hesitate. he continued towards the bus with his hands still in his pockets, but now with a hint of regret. the need to take it all back sat at the tip of his tongue, but he simply bit down into the flesh as he left you behind.

jake’s absence stung less and less as he grew fainter and fainter in the image of your life.

it first manifested as sadness. you cried into your knees the first friday that he didn’t come over for dinner. and on the first joint-family holiday that he refused to attend, you spent the majority of it alone in your hotel room that you would have been sharing with him. and then it manifested as anger. you grew to hate him beyond repair, throwing out every gift he had ever given you and turning around every photo frame that included him. speaking his name left a bitter taste in the back of your throat, and you decided that it was only for the best to never speak to him again.

his parents stopped asking you about him whenever they came over, simply being the kind people that they were. your own parents kept any news about him to themselves, respecting your decision to cut him off. although neither of them knew why exactly you had made that decision.

you still saw sunghoon, him being the only other person in the world that knew why you and jake had stopped being friends. he slowly became your new best friend, until it was time to move onto university, and the two of you parted ways. although he always kept in touch, which annoyed jake heavily.

and by the time you had finished your first year of university, jake no longer had any impact on your wellbeing. not when you were so far out of reach, studying at your dream university under a sports scholarship as the captain of their volleyball team, with friends he didn’t even know the name of.

I DMed Gina (Twopoppies)

As most of you know by now, I vehemently hate Gina. She defended her child groomer friend tvshows-addict back in 2017, that event was brought to my attention a few weeks ago, and I spoke about it on my blog. Most of her friends blocked me at that point, and the only reason Gina hadn't is because I blocked her first. But the fact that she defended a child groomer and aided in silencing the victim isn't actually the focus of this post at all.

The focus of this post is the fact that Gina has recently began pushing the morally, medically, scientifically false narrative that being a fan of Louis is the same as being in an abusive relationship dynamic. I have sources to prove her wrong, but common sense also does the trick for those of us who aren't preoccupied with sucking her dick.

Here is her post, the one that prompted my dm, and the one that's been prompting the Gina-related anons I've been recieving lately:

Let's break it down, shall we? Firstly, here is the tweet everyone is losing their goddamn minds over:

Fact: He refers to twitter as a "weird place." He says twitter feels "extra toxic these days."

Fact: Neither of those statements are directed at any particular twitter user, fandom, side of the fandom, or person in general. They are directed at an app on the whole.

Twitter is toxic. It's literally owned by a nazi. Louis is not saying anything that is untrue. In fact, he's putting it very mildly. And I could argue about why I personally don't believe he wrote that tweet, but let's just assume for the sake of discussion that he did. It's not a violent tweet, it isn't calling for violence, it's not derogatory towards any of his fans, and it reads as an offhand observation of how twitter tends to feel more than anything.

If anyone else on the planet earth had made that tweet, even one of the other boys, this overreaction would not be happening.

Now, into Gina's post.

Her anon starts off by stating that twitter is a toxic cesspool, a statement that completely agrees with what Louis' tweet said. So they're in agreement, right? There shouldn't be an issue? Oh, but with Louis haters, there's always an issue.

The anon goes on to say that they believe Louis was tweeting about some sect of his fans because of his instagram post. The instagram post being referenced is his Costa Rica studio pics, the ones captioned "Pura Vida." Nothing to do with twitter, or fans, or toxicity. Just an LT3 update.

"For a while now, his MO seems to be punches followed quickly by soothing pats." Since when? Evidence? Louis has done nothing recently but appear in fan selfies in Costa Rica, tweet hints about his upcoming album, and do whatever contractually obligated stunt bullshit he has to do with Zara. Maybe the anon is an idiot, and is referring to the stunt? That would make sense considering Gina has been pushing the false narrative that Louis is stunting for shits and giggles. "A tongue-lashing on twitter followed by a photo dump." The 'tongue-lashing' being... him saying twitter feels weird lately and more toxic than usual. If that's a 'tongue-lashing' to you, then you've lived a VERY happy life. Hell, even if the anon is referring to some other time when Louis followed a tweet spree with insta photos, in what world is that abusive? Even if the tweets were less-than-positive. The plot has been severely lost.

"or a night out at the bar snapping photos with fans coming on the heels of a fan blocking spree." Louis is allowed to block whoever he wants to on social media, for any reason. You have no idea why he may block someone, even someone who is a fan of his. There are plenty of assholes in this fandom who I have blocked, is that abuse too? Again, these examples the anon is giving to define why they're saying Louis is behaving abusively are factually not abusive. Blocking someone on social media is not abuse, it's a self-curation method that quite literally every single person and every single celebrity on the planet who has a social will utilize at some point.

"It's not dissimilar to the patterns of behavior abusers engage in." Wanna try that one again? Because you are factually incorrect. You are wrong. That is not my opinion, that is a fact. Louis is not your personal friend or relative, he is not personally attacking you in any way. Tweeting about how twitter sucks? Everyone agrees with that, even the anon agrees with that, so why and HOW would that be abusive behavior? Posting studio pics? He's a musician, what are you expecting? Blocking people? Literally a form of self-care and only POTENTIALLY considered emotional abuse if you are someone's personal friend or partner and they are using blocking and unblocking as a guilt tripping technique. Louis blocking random people who he doesn't want to interact with is not that potential case, by any stretch. Familiarize yourself with the false equivalence fallacy, perhaps?

And now onto Gina's response to the anon. Firstly, she agrees with them. Secondly;

"That pattern of behavior goes back to the 1D days, actually. We were always braced for the backlash every time we got something good." This, my friends, is intentionally vague. You know WHY fans in the 1D days were always braced for backlash when something good happened? Because management was even worse than it is now for Harry and Louis, and anytime they tried to be truthful with us or show their love, MANAGEMENT was who dished out backlash to try and discourage and dismantle the Larrie fandom. It wasn't Louis engaging in some intentional cycle- it was Louis and Harry trying to be themselves, and management punishing them AND us alike for it. Do not misattribute the actions of a scummy company to Louis just because it serves your anti-Louis narrative, Gina.

"And you're spot on with it being abusive. And triggering." Nope, you are flat-out wrong. Again, not my opinion, this is a fact. Louis' posts on social media have never violated TOS or incited violence against another person. He is not abusing you, a fan, by saying he feels like twitter is toxic lately. He is not abusing you, a fan, by blocking accounts he dislikes. He is not abusing you. You are not anywhere near close enough to him personally to BE abused by him. The anon's argument relies on the false attribution of irrelevant facts.

As for triggering- if Louis triggers you by simply existing online and saying something negative about a social media app, that is a you problem. Triggers are YOUR responsibility to identify and accommodate yourself for. You cannot expect Louis to change how he tweets because it personally upsets you. He doesn't know you, dude. You don't know him. Gina, you are 57 years old, you are plenty old enough to understand this concept and yet you are intentionally obtuse about it to serve your narrative.

Now that I'm done with Gina's post, let's get into our dms. I've had Gina blocked since around the time I was notified of the defending a child groomer shit, but I unblocked her because my anons had tipped me off about the disgusting things she was saying about Louis being "abusive."

I didn't beat around the bush. I made it clear that, while I don't like her regardless and she knows that, I found this important enough to make reaching out privately worth it. Initially, I didn't intend to share our dms. But after her reply, I really don't fucking care. Let's get into that reply, shall we?

To start, I'm briefly going to address what she said about the grooming mess. This has been talked about ad nauseum at this point, and it's not the focus of this post, so I'll keep it brief.

"You couldn’t be bothered to do a little detective work to verify whether a horrific accusation was true or false" I did, actually. I read the old posts. I dug up the old posts on YOUR blog, Gina. From the horse's mouth. The fact you are trying to paint me as not having done my due diligence is manipulative from the jump, and we aren't even at the part where you called Louis abusive.

The fact she's even bringing this up when I made it clear that my dm wasn't about that situation is a tactic to distract me- and whoever I show these dms to- from the POINT of this interaction. She's throwing confetti 5 feet to the left in hopes we'll all look over there instead of at the issue at hand. This is the red herring fallacy.

Then her ramble about the victim supposedly lying (evidence?) is a clear example of attempting to poison the well. If she can start off making me sound less credible by bringing up an entirely separate debate and say some nonsense about the victim in that case lying, she can make her actual rebuttal to the "Louis is abusive" debate sound more credible by default.

"You just decided to believe it and to build up a federal case against someone who’s literally done nothing to you, nor to anyone else" This part just pisses me off. Federal case? Who do you think I am, the god damn FBI? I called you out on tumblr, grow up and take accountability maybe instead of acting like I sent a SWAT team to your blog. Anyway, moving on.

"Now, you come here and tell me that you and your “close friends and mutuals” know what abuse is and because you don’t agree with my take, I am therefore doing something hurtful" So right off the bat she's putting my 'close friends and mutuals' in quotation marks to make it sound like mine and the people I know's experiences of abuse are less valid. She's also initializing me a great deal based on age- I'm 19, she's 57. Not a single genuine argument from her to be seen yet.

But the fact is, I do know what abuse is. I've not only experienced abuse, I've studied it. For years. And Louis tweeting and posting to instagram like a normal guy who makes music? Not abuse. Abuse, believe it or not, has a DEFINITION. What is and is not abuse can have some subjectivity to it, but in broad terms it does have to meet certain markers to be considered abuse at all. In this case, the only abuse that could even hypothetically be commited is psychological (commonly known as emotional) abuse, so here's the actual defintion:

A celebrity tweeting something you don't like, and then promoting his music? Not abuse.

A parent telling their child that they're worthless and then giving them a hug? Absolutely abuse.

What Louis has posted online cannot possibly be stretched to fit the definition of abuse. Flat out. That is not how this works. He tweeted about twitter feeling toxic and then promoted his music. That's not abuse. That's him being some guy on the internet and posting pretty normal things. I posted TODAY about twitter being a horrible website and then continued business as usual, akin to how Louis did. Is that abuse? Was I abusing all of you by saying I dislike a social media app, and then DARING to post something positive afterwards on my sideblog?

"I’d like to remind you that you don’t know me. You don’t know my story. You don’t know what I’ve been through." Appeal to emotion, nobody cares about your story. Louis is a public figure, not your close personal friend who hurt you. Everyone can see his tweets and insta posts, everyone hears what he says publicly, and none of it constitutes abuse. Not towards you, and frankly not towards anyone. Your personal history is irrelevant, it's another attempt to distract from the point while also appealing to my empathy.

And before anyone says it- yes, I also brought up my abuse history. In an entirely differnet context. The purpose for me bringing up that I have been abused was to explain why I'm personally upset with Gina's misportrayal of what abuse is. Gina's purpose of bringing up her potential abuse history was to validate her calling Louis abusive for publicly verifiable, factually non-abusive behaviors. Different contexts, different purposes behind a similar talking point.

"I am a lot older than you are, and I have had more than my fair share of experiences. Please don’t come into my DMs and tell me that your interpretation of abuse is the only valid one." You are older, but that does not mean you are smarter, nor does it mean you are correct by default. Your age is irrelevant and you only bring it up to sound like an authority over me, which you are not.

It's not "my interpretation of abuse." It's a fact that Louis is not abusing you, you fucking unlit candle. Abuse has a medical and factual definition, and Louis' tweet and fucking instagram post do not fit that definition. Asserting that the definition of what is and is not abuse if simply 'my interpretation' is a VERY intentional attempt to discredit my words, as well as treating me like I'm stupid.

"I am entitled to feel how I feel. If you don’t like my takes, no one is forcing you to come to my blog and see what I’m saying." Feel however you want, it's still factually not true to assert that Louis is being abusive towards you or fans at large. The matter I dmed you about is not one of feelings or opinions, it is one of facts. You are treating it like a matter of feelings and opinions because that serves you, it makes it easier to discredit and disregard what I am saying without you needing to craft and ACTUAL rebuttal.

"I’m sorry you don’t like me. I can’t do anything about that. But assuming everything you read online to be truth is dangerous." I never asked you to change whether or not I like you. I dmed you because you are asserting a provable lie and it's disgusting. I read YOUR post. Posted today. But again, she's trying to tie it back into the grooming debacle and her narrative on that, which is again distracting from the main point and a lazy attempt at discrediting me with irrelevant arguments.

Gina is a highly manipulative person and she's had a long time to perfect her skills. She, unfortunately for her, falls victim to her ego though. She assumed that I would be easy to manipulate, distract, appeal to my pity, because I'm only 19. Because she's older and has been in the fandom longer. Well, unfortunately for her, I spent the first 18 years of my life learning how to identify manipulation on the fly from my own mother. I clocked her tactics immediately. I cited my sources. I hope she shuts the fuck up about Louis, since she clearly doesn't fucking like him, and all she's doing is actively encouraging the fandom to treat him worse with her bullshit "he's abusing us!" narrative.
