Woo got Linux working! On a related note I have gotten over any fear of breaking things through the command line and also can now roll back to an earlier system backup. Yes those are related. In my defense, breaking things in interesting ways is a great way to figure out what's actually going wrong.

hi everyone! no page today, probably not sunday either. my pc has been out of commission for over a month so i've been drawing on my laptop--but i'm getting to the point where i really would like to 3d model my backgrounds to make them a little easier on me and give me more energy to experiment/make pages nicer, so i'm going to try to hold out until my pc gets fixed and i can do so for these next couple of pages.

it'll be a lot of front-loaded work, but it'll be worth it in the long run, i think!

Begging Tumblr users to finally discover Linux

Everyone keeps complaining about Google and advising to use Firefox etc while still using OS produced by Microsoft which is just like Google maybe worse. Linux is literally free and out there, there are so many different distributions produced in different countries and so much free open source software. Go grab yourself a flashdisk and do yourself a favour. Tbh if you get Ubuntu it is very easy to set up(seriously if you managed to download firefox and add Ublock you probably are very much capable of installing Ubuntu), has shit ton of support online, comes with many useful programs preinstalled and you can even get an add-on to make it look more like windows. Nothing is stopping you

Edit: people are also recommending Linux Mint a lot so you can give that a try! (Personally I have never used it but it looks very windows-like at least when it comes to the UI layout)

Trying to solve technical problems is a fucking roller coaster

Like, it's all fear that you'll get no results when you type it into DuckDuckGo, then it's elation as you get a bunch of results, then disbelief as you realise that this is a very common issue, but everyone actually has slight variations on it and there are thirty different fixes floating around, and then despair as none of the fixes work for you, then hope as you find a forum post of someone describing the exact variant of the issue you have, and then utter contempt for humanity as the only response is someone calling OP an idiot for not already doing one of the fixes you've already tried

even if things work out as well as i'm hoping i might still pick up a second job for a few months to save up for some repairs around the house and upgrade my PC and drawing tablet (the cable is barely attached and while i don't want to update to Win11, support for 10 for a couple games i play is ending when official support ends so i feel like i'll have to sooner than later)

so i'm debating between the local grocery or hardware store (this is assuming things with target pan out) discount on food (i'd really only hit bakery since they're more expensive for a lot of things) or hardware (i wonder if that'd apply to appliances and paint...)

windows/linux rant

unrelated to SMT or anything on my blog currently I guess...

I keep seeing the "prep for windows 11" thing show up on my computer, and it upsets me every time that you have to have a microsoft account to install it.

windows 10 reaches end of support next year~~

I hope by then the computer I"m using will actually let me run linux on it instead of an outdated windows os....

I want to run linux on this machine so bad but whenever I try to install it, it seems to install fine and dandy

and then it won't boot

I've snooped around in the BIOS, disabled the "smart startup" or "secure startup" or whatever else I thought was borking the boot for linux.

but it still won't boot~~~

and sadly i've got games on here that only work on windows anyway.

I'd much rather be able to stay relatively safe online and maintain an OS, than play the games I bought on steam....

something is preventing linux from booting on this machine, it upsets me when I think about it, and it upsets me more when I try to install linux and it goes fine, but then doesn't boot

cause I have to take the time to reinstall windows again.....

why computer? why won't you let linux boot? what do I need to do to you to have linux actually boot? I don't understand...

I opened up my computer to find that its touch screen and pen suddenly don't work so I went and dug around in my settings after a restart didn't fix it and saw in my device specifications it's specifically showing "no pen and touch input is available on this display". Which is odd considering that's thw whole point of this stupid fucking computer. I tell myself okay don't panic. Look it up. Check Google. Google tells me to open up my device manager and find "HID-compliant touch screen" under the human interface devices and turn it on and off essentially. I look. It doesn't even fucking exist in there anymore??? Hm. Okay. Maybe panic?
