2007xMM crossover thoughts (Part 3 YUH)
You thought I was off my tmnt shit? WROOOONG.
(I mean, technically I did pause for a bit cause I got hit with the AUUUUUUUGH, but I knew I wanted to get back here. Cringe but FREEEEEE)
Here I attempt to focus on the MM perspective and maybe expand on some things I mentioned in the first part. If I don't keep my promise about this being a MM centered post, you can stone my goofy ass.
Also admittedly, this one is probably going to be a bit more random in ideas RIP.
(Highkey, might as well start a 2007 thought thread cause for real dog, I rotate that movie in my brain like it's in the microwave.)
========>>>
--MM Leo is trying so hard; between dimension hopping and his 2007 self being so much more capable and respected, the only reason he hasn't sweated himself into oblivion is because it's not physically possible.
Genuinely, being next to his older self, let alone the same room as him, pushes his nerves to the edge. EVENTUALLY he calms down but even then, he feels the pressure of responsibilities that aren't his. (Going back to their stress regarding how they compare to 2007.)
He even asks 2007 Leo at some point how he leads his brothers despite the issue of his leadership skills being resolved during the nightmare that was stopping Superfly. ( Highkey, the only reason MM Leo is seen as a "leader" is cause he's the one considered most responsible, thus Splinter putting him in charge when they have to do chores and such. )
--As mentioned before, MM Raph is ecstatic to meet 2007 Raph. Actually, in a funny twist of fate, 2007 Raph is seen as the coolest out of all the 2007 brothers since he's the Cool Uncle. This ends up causing issues later on but for now he's the favorite. (The accent helps too. It helps A LOT.)
--The cool factor starts to fade as they interact more however cause 2007 Raph keeps trying to convince him that violence is not the answer, that his anger is pent up energy. MM Raph starts to get legit miffed.
--2007 give MM a tour their dojo and both groups get to show off their skills. Lots of mixed interactions and quiet concerns on 2007's part but MM Raph gets to flaunt his wrestling skills which ends up being a lot of fun.
--MM learn a game that 2007 played as kids where they pushed their heads together to see who had the stronger neck. (Cause they're turtles and I think it's cute. The image of them just being silly AUUGH.)
--MM Donnie spends the majority of their first interactions with 2007 freaking out over the fact that isekai is real. They ISEKAI-D. ANIME IS REAL.
--The moment MM find out that they also traveled back in time, he's gets amped up all over again cause they get to experience the early 2000's for realsies. TIME TRAVEL IS REAL.
--Especially the internet aspect. Everyone and their mom talks about how the old internet was better/more interesting and he's now in a position to see what was actually like.
--Unfortunately, MM Donnie is the second to feel the pressure of impressing or being like his older self. Simultaneously he is ahead and behind with 2007 Donnie being a tech wiz for seemingly no reason. He tries to keep in mind that 2007 is very anime and 2007 Donnie explaining his tech is recognized for what it is, but the gesture partially backfires. Now he feels especially Not Smart.
--Against all odds, MM Mikey manages to avoid this issue, primarily cause 2007 Mikey is so friendly. There's isn't that same sense of seriousness present.
--He successfully teaches 2007 Mikey fortnite dances, and BOY HOWDY, he's basically a prodigy. He already liked dancing, so MM Mikey just introduced him to a world endless possibilities. ( Orange Justice ends up a big favorite. )
--In turn he gets to try skateboarding. His time with Mondo Gecko has given MM Mikey a good start but he's still hesitant, which is totally fair. 2007 Mikey proposes they try riding a skateboard with both of them on it and MM Mikey decides y'know what? Sure!
--It works for until the most cartoonishly inconvenient moment...RIP ( The piggyback method worked at least? )
--2007 Mikey is so so SO interested in what their future looks like and almost becomes a pest, asking any and all question he can think of. MM Mikey takes it in stride. ( EDIT: MM Mikey has any and all questions for 2007 Mikey as well. Forgot to say that RIP )
--Scholarly discussions of pizza and things that can be put on it. Both agree that Yes! Waffles on pizza IS good
--In the first part I mentioned how MM Mikey notices how 2007 Mikey is stuck in the little brother role; alongside this, he also gets to hear about some of the family drama. 2007 Mikey is a chatty guy and is smart enough to keep from giving explicit details but this is where the image of a functional unit begins to slip.
Even in it's vagueness, it was clear that 2007 aren't just being cagey; whatever it may be, they are also keeping quiet about some things. MM Mikey takes notes and shares this with his brothers later on, and in doing that, all of the little weird things they've noticed begin to line up, especially with Cool Uncle Raph.
--2007 have a lot of good reasons to keep aspects of their lives to themselves. They don't know if this dimension hopping will effect MM or if it is at all. They don't know if MM have their own Shredder or Utroms or whatever else they have encountered. In keeping quiet, they hope to not jinx MM. There's also the fact that they have their own insecurities; seeing their younger selves so informal and carefree, how relaxed they are with each other. Even with how rude they can be...
They are jealous in a small, ache-y way. Think of a paper cut.
They can only imagine what it's like to not have to hide anymore, to be accepted by the public. It hurts, sincerely. 2007 don't want to let this get in the way of them enjoying these kids.
--On the opposite side, MM do share a collected sense of pity regarding this. This pity manifests as time goes on. Seeing these adults that haven't, and may never, get to escape the sewers is incredibly sad. It's part of the reason they make an attempt to therapy 2007 outside of the issues they're seeing.
========>>>
( I'll leave you to ponder that but back to general ideas! )
--The Great Dominos vs. Pizza Hut debate. Mostly cause it's funny? Both groups can't just walk in and have real New York pizza so their stuck with the franchise shit. THAT SAID, MM can do whatever they want to now and 2007 do have April and Casey to help refine their palettes, but they were eating the franchise shit most of their life.
--2007 Donnie get offended that MM consider the Bo to be the worst weapon and makes it a point to Make Them Respect the Bo.
--Going back to the dojo, 2007 are internally vibrating at what they see. They were taught how to be real ninjas while MM were taught to be approximations of ninjas. Like they are ninjas, but in the discount variety.
So when they see MM in action, they see everything wrong with their form etc. etc. And to be real, MM only started to get good when they were actively fighting people and gaining that experience. A week, maybe two weeks, of fighting people who don't know how to fight back does not replace a decade and a half of training and fighting people who know how to counter you.
--As a result, 2007 take to soft training them. Showing the difference between *whapp whapp* and *WHAPP WHAPP*.
It gives them a chance to show off too. It's fun to entertain kids sometimes!
--2007 Donnie tells the story of how it took a year and a half to install a swamp cooler in the lair which promptly earns him critical looks.
( "You can invent tech but you couldn't install a air conditioner...?"
"First: it's a 'Swamp Cooler', and second: installation is entirely different. Certainly not a one person job!" )
--MM, upon first arriving: " The pollution smells different. "
--MM and 2007 have a discussion about food when MM sees the kitchen and 2007 Donnie gets very VERY concerned about MM's diet. Almost goes into a lecture about food health but is unanimously ignored by MM, save for MM Leo. ( The one thing that 2007 noticed and was shocked by at first was how blunt MM can be, even unintentionally. )
--The Great Goku vs. Superman debate
--April has a lot of fun hanging out with MM cause it reminds her of when she met 2007 the first time. That same feeling of discovery and bonding. :)))
--We Get Board games! Card Games!! Tooth and Nail UNO!!!
--MM get super curious about the memento shelf, with some dodging questions on 2007's part.
--MM make a very honest attempt to make 2007 understand modern memes with lackluster results. ( "Boomers...")
--They try their damndest to explain modern day trends and events and just...2007 just can't understand. ( Shit, I don't even understand everything. )
========>>>
Aaaaand that's all I can manage today. I hope you all enjoy this and by all means, if you want to steal these ideas, go right ahead! Do anything you want with them. I don't mind in the slightest.

Levi’s reaction to finding out reader got their nipples pierced? or anything with Levi and MC with nip piercings 👀
Nsfw!
You should already know Levi’s almost always staring at your boobs /chest- Nipple piercings are only going to make it worse 🤭
Levi’s probably a little too excited ‘n somehow still awkward as hell the first time you actually show him your nipple piercings- his face bright red as he asks you if they hurt? do you regret them? how do you change the jewelry? etc- I’m warning you he has a LOT of questions!!!-
Levi can’t believe his ears when you tell him he can touch them- really?!??- His hands are on your chest immediately. squeezing your chest first before his fingers move, tugging at your jewelry just a little too hard, pinching your nipples to see your reaction.
And when he learns the new piercings make your nipples even more sensitive- oh he’s going to have wayyy too much fun playing with you~
Asks to try the ‘hot and cold game’ with his mouth ‘n a piece of ice!!!!- He loves watching you shiver when he pushes the ice against your nipple and the way you whine his name when he takes the ice away and sucks your nipple into his mouth.
Sucking and nipping heh at your piercings until you have to push him away or at least have him switch nipples Levi can’t help himself everything about you ‘n your piercings drives him insane!!
He definitely wants to ask for a boobjob too- but chokes on the words.

Hi! I absolutely love your art! I saw a post saying how demons are able to have kids by themselves. How does the whole process & the birthing process work exactly?
hello! thank you so much for this ask!!!
(i made some sketches and wrote down some notes on this but i will explain in more detail below that ... its pretty long again .. sorry qwq)
Tumblr media
demons (in my OC story and world) are .. essentially "built" around the idea of what a natural guardian of an ecosystem could look like that is as indestructible as possible while still being very much a living being
their biology is somewhat simplified (if you want to call it that), meaning they dont have nearly as many organs as we have and it works rather 'simplistic' (like they recover their energy passively through the particles of it in the air- which is a reason why they need to breathe (other being to get the blood to the right places) and usually only eat if they had a loss of energy/blood, like a bad injury they needed to heal quickly or spending too much on magic use- and its literally just converted into magic/blood)
(truth be told i havent thought out or designed each and every organ, forgive me :V) but the main things are, four lungs, a demonic heart (the most important thing that keeps everything running), a second red blood heart (like humans have, but very small and a rather useless remnant of their evolution, sorta like the leg bones some whales still have), the reproductive organ (usually somewhat between the lungs, directly below the heart, but it depends on each demon) and a stomach which is also the dead end of their system (they are supposed to be able to digest everything that goes in there, if theres somethign they cant it has to be vomitted)
-having offspring is generally extremely rare, demons dont die of age and are (or are supposed to be) very hard to kill so its purely a deeply personal choice for them to have one- each demon can have them given the organ isnt damaged and they decide to kickstart the process (you cant really force a demon to carry a child)
-their genes work a little differently, a child from one parent isnt really a clone and inbreeding is technically nigh impossible with them in the sense that offspring wouldnt show any negative defects (culturally it would be a death sentence, as a romantic relationship that is, demons being single parents throughout generations isnt considered inbreeding) -if two or more demons are partners and want a child of them both they can exchange genetical information via heartblood (the highly concentrated blood in their hearts, which is the only thing that openly carries genes) deliberately through .. well cutting and transferring blood (alot about demons is really about their blood) which influences how much a child may resemble them for example but also mixes up the gene pool of both the parents as well as the offspring
-(important add on- this sort of blood exchange would need to happen right before kickstarting the process otherwise it would just mix with the general gene pool- a theory to explain, at least in part, why brutal fights are such a common thing in demon culture is to indirectly raise the chances of heartblood mixing in the act of fighting instead, since romantic relationships are so rare among them and most are single parents)
-once the process is started it can only be slowed down but not stopped (unless getting it out prematurely), and at reaching ca. 5% of development a demon is unable to change into humanoid/their smaller form since the fetus cant change form with them, trying it anyway is extremely dangerous
-offspring are considered to be 'full term' when they are born and can produce their own energy/digest food to gain more, though they can be born at about 50% of development without dying, then however need to cling to another demon to feed on their blood in order to reach that dev. stage
-its largely not visible when a demon is carrying a child, though it also depends on the demons 'built' and general condition (for example, Shargon is very slim and has little energy storage, depending on how long he lets it develop it might cause visible changes on top of typical behavioral ones, if Eadrya would do it they could without anything being noticable except the required refusal of changing forms really)
-a demon carrying an offspring will refuse to change form, likely refuses to engage in fights, generally retreat depending on their social status and might show shortness of breath (it puts pressure on the lungs and heart especially in the later stages and with slimmer or smaller demons), rest more and forage for things that are highly convertable to energy/blood if they cannot recover it passively evenly as it is used (a somewhat stable energy/blood/magic -sorry i still dont know what to call it so its not confusing- level is beneficial to the offspring, a lack of it can put both at risk)
-birth is generally initiated by the parent or when it has reached full term, and since its done so via the mouth it has to pass by the lungs and heart, compressing them both immensely for a short time, not being able to breathe and possibly causing the heart to stop temporarily depending on how far along the offspring is/big compared to its parent- Shargon cant carry fully to term since even an appropiately sized one has to pass through his slim body (Jyothi was born at around 90%, Tyura at roughly 56%) and it causes great stress on his system since hes chronically lacking energy in part from being hunted down alot (Tyuras early birth happened bc Shargon was critically injured by Eadrya and hunted by them during the earlier stages as well)
-it IS possible to allow it to grow to full term even when it cant pass by the lungs and heart though it involves bending or breaking bones (if he carried Jyothi the remaining percentage he would have had to do that) or in extreme cases to cut themselves open, given their healing capabilities that might sound not too bad but it is extremely painful, risks dangerous injury to both and permanent damage to the reproductive organ (also their healing is often more of an active thing rather than a passive one, especially with bigger and more dangerous wounds that need quick healing, meaning they have to actively "do" it, which is hard when you are literally dying)
-the offspring is within an translucent egg like bubble (though squishy) of ideally highly charged demonic blood, the outer layer can withstand quite a bit; ones born before reaching full term (in which case it would dissolve right away) either remain within it (if sufficiently charged with energy) or it dissolves/is cut open during or after birth and the child has to cling to another demon to feed on their blood this way
-uniquely, before reaching full term a young demon can convert any elemental type of blood to their own, losing that ability afterwards
-offspring can be of any elemental type from any parent though the likelyhood is slightly higher for ones with the same type, even moreso when it is a single parent (Shargon is thunder, his firstborn is wind, his second also thunder)
I hope this isnt too long and uuh answers that!! <3

Hi! As we start preseason, it’s come to my attention that Krakenblr has gained some community members who may not know the full depth of our beloved, tragic starboy. As we enter into a time of holding our breath to see if it’s finally his year, I wanted to fix that. So.
Shane Wright
Tumblr media
A disclaimer: all of this is googleable and I honestly just wanted to get this out of my head so please forgive me for not linking! I can find any sources that you’re having trouble finding but also this one is emotional lol some are my own opinions but I’ve tried to be honest about those, too. This is not exhaustive; it’s about the ✨narratives.✨ let’s go!
Beginnings
Shane was born on January 5, 2004 in Burlington, ON to a non-hockey family.
Let me repeat that: his family does not play hockey. They were a soccer family, primarily. Hockey and its particularities are like a different planet for them.
They put Shane into hockey because he was freakishly good and competitive about everything, and he just fell in love with it.
He gets moved up an age group pretty regularly, but his dad recalls Shane being unphased by this. In fact, at 8, his dad remembers wanting to go with him into the dressing room, knowing it was full of boys much older than him. But Shane turned and reassured him, saying “No, I’m good. I’m good, dad.”
By 12, Shane has attracted the attention of scouts and his parents need to make the first of a few major decisions. His talent quickly outgrew his local teams.
Shane’s enthusiasm about the sport overshadows any qualms and discomfort they have, and he moves with his dad to a suburb north of Toronto to play with the Don Mills Flyers.
Of this time and adjustment, Shane remembers, “At the start it was really hard…not being able to see my mom every day.” But he adjusts. He always adjusts.
Don Mills Flyers (tw: death; grief)
Tumblr media
The Don Mills Flyers gave him friends. Friends that were a year or two older than him, of course.
His best friends become Brennan Othmann (who is also born January 5) and Brandt Clarke.
They share a deep bond with the rest of their teammates, including goaltender Roy Pejcinovski.
Tragically and shockingly, Roy was killed along with his mom and sister in 2018.
They grieve together. The team notes that this made them “grow up,” this experience of mourning one of their own in such a brutal way. They play for one another and they play for Roy.
They continue to, as well. Many of the Don Mills Flyers still have RP74 in their Instagram bios or have other ways of remembering him.
I mention this not to romanticize grief or make Shane Wright tragic; another person’s death is not a storyline.
I mention this to say that when Shane Wright is called mature, it’s not precocious. It’s a reasonable response from anyone needing to confront very real injustice and grief very early in his life.
I also mention this because Shane Wright couldn’t take his time grieving. He needed to make a very important decision very quickly after.
Major Juniors
Scouts explain to Shane’s parents that he qualifies to apply for exceptional status, which would mean he would be eligible for the major juniors leagues a year early.
Shane’s mom remembers being dumbfounded “Why would this be happening now?” She feels he’s too young for this attention, for this to be moving this fast. But she listens to the pros and the cons.
Pros include that he would continue on his trajectory and not have to stay behind just because of his age. He would also be counted among those like John Tavares and Connor McDavid, who also were granted exceptional status.
Cons include that he would be watched even closer. That there might be a bullseye on him. That he wouldn’t be around his peers. He would be 15 against 19- and 20-year-olds.
Shane gets psychological testing done as part of this jump to exceptional status, testing his character and judgment as well as his willingness and readiness to make the jump.
He’s undeterred. He’s granted the status.
He’s taken, predictably, first overall in the OHL draft by the Kingston Frontenacs in 2019.
By December of that year, he’s named their alternate captain, making him the youngest player to wear a letter in the CHL.
It’s early, of course, but the hockey world loves early. Shane’s projected as the first overall pick for his draft year just as most every other exceptional status player is. It doesn’t matter it’s almost three years away.
But the world has other plans.
Disruptions
Every person has a COVID-19 story, and Shane Wright is no exception. The remainder of the 2019-2020 season is cancelled, as well as the entirety of the 2020-2021 season.
He’s also placed in an impossible position. Go against public health advice, probably moving away from his family again, to seek out ways to play? Or trust that things will go back to normal and he can return to the trajectory that hadn’t steered him wrong yet?
And this has never been explicitly stated, but I think I want to bring this up again: Shane Wright is a hockey player from a non-hockey family. To sacrifice one’s safety and health for this sport…it doesn’t make sense in the way it might have for others.
So he doesn’t.
He has a group of people he’s able to skate with, but it’s all casual.
Shane’s only hockey appearance is the 2021 IIHF Under 18 World Championships.
He does well!! Canada wins gold, and Shane finishes behind only Matvei Michkov for goals and points. He has more goals but ties in points with his teammate Connor Bedard.
It’s not enough, though. When it comes time for individual awards, Bedard gets the award for forwards from the media.
This is not…great. Shane’s running out of time and he knows it. Scouts know it. He needs to get ice time and be noticed if he’s going to defend the crown that’s been his to lose for years, that precious high draft pick in 2022.
2021-2022
Tumblr media
The 2021-2022 season starts.
He is named captain, the youngest captain in the OHL ever.
But the season starts badly for Shane, who looks as rusty as any other person who couldn’t play hockey regularly for a year and a half might look like.
Shane had never been held to the same expectations as any other person, though. This was just the first time he fell short of those expectations.
He receives no grace. Being crowned the projected first overall pick comes with an uncomfortable throne.
Bob McKenzie of Sportsnet writes in January 2022 in his mid-season rankings that Shane has “left the door open for someone to unseat him.”
And while Shane does much better in the second half of the season, including getting his team to the second round of playoffs, it still ends shorter than he would’ve liked.
And then that’s it. All that’s left is evaluation of his work. And, of course, his character.
The Lead-Up
Tumblr media
To understand what eventually happens at the draft, we have to talk about Juraj Slafkovsky. And to be clear, it is a pleasure to talk about Juraj Slafkovsky.
He rises to prominence and even national heroism during the 2022 Winter Olympics, in which he leads Slovakia to their first ever medal in men’s ice hockey.
He’s named MVP of the entire tournament. There’s very little to overstate about his performance.
He is, in fact, what many were waiting for: a figure to unseat Shane Wright.
Because it’s exciting, right? The talented Canadian boy who’s been projected for years isn’t fun anymore! That’s not a fun story! We’ve done that so many times before!
Shane is so mature for his age and coaches can’t say enough good things about him, blah blah blah.
Juraj Slafkovsky…he’s fun. The lead-up to the 2022 draft is allll Juraj and Shane, and Juraj is delightful. He’s still got braces on and his hair flops just right and he’s funny! He’s humble! He smiles and laughs!
Shane is as serious and earnest and honest as he’s ever been and for the first time, he begins to be punished for it. The same qualities that had helped to push him ahead of his peers are now used as indicators of ego, of taking himself too seriously, of feeling entitled.
When Shane is asked if he should go first overall, he says yes because he believes he should and he expects other prospects to say the same.
Juraj Slafkovsky is asked about this, and Shane’s words are twisted in the question. “When you hear Shane Wright say he deserves to go first, what do you think?”
Juraj smiles slyly, “That’s what he thinks. I think something different.”
When Shane is asked about being courted by Montreal, the team holding the first overall pick, he talks about the fancy dinner they take him to.
When Juraj is asked about his meeting with Montreal, he grins and says they didn’t have dinner but the conversation they had was even more delicious.
Juraj wins everyone’s hearts so effortlessly. Shane’s bald-faced, serious honesty looks bland at best and embarrassing at worst. It’s brutal.
But surely, following the natural effects of a pandemic and answering with serious maturity won’t be enough to take away all a kid has worked for, right?
The Draft
Draft day comes and it’s still a toss-up. Montreal’s fanbase has been thoroughly split by the time it comes as well.
They also happen to be in Montreal for the draft, meaning Shane-to-Montreal fans are in full force to welcome him into the draft, proclaiming their hopes that in just a few moments, he’ll be theirs.
That doesn’t happen though.
Juraj Slafkovsky is taken first. He becomes the highest drafted Slovakian ever.
Simon Nemec, Juraj’s dear friend, is taken second.
At third, Shane turns to his dad. “Arizona!” he’s seen saying, “I’m good with it.”
But that doesn’t happen either. Arizona takes Logan Cooley.
And at this moment, he’s not that far off from the 8-year-old who assured his dad he was okay when he walked into a locker room alone. He continues to clap for his peers and when he turns to his dad, Shane puts on a smile, accepting it when his dad says it’s okay. But when he turns away, he has a sadder look on his face.
The only sign of emotion comes here as he tells his dad, “It hurts.”
Away from him, as Juraj, Simon, and Logan take the traditional photo of the three first picks, the first thing Juraj asks is, “Shane is four?” He’s just as surprised as anyone.
#4, Seattle Kraken
Tumblr media
When Ron Francis chooses Shane Wright at fourth, I believe there’s a part of him that feels he was choosing himself.
Ron Francis was also once a projected first overall pick that dropped to fourth, but he went to a team that hadn’t intended on choosing him.
I want to say that Francis likely sees himself in Shane, and wants to make sure that Shane knows he is beyond wanted.
So when Francis steps to the podium and proudly announces his pick, he’s smiling like mad. He’s clearly so happy.
Which then makes Shane Wright’s awkward, steely-eyed reaction to shaking Bettman’s hand that much more noticeable.
Much has been said on this. I don’t know the truth. I think it’s just as likely and reasonable that Shane was staring down the Montreal table (as everyone assumed) as the other answer, which is just that he was overwhelmed and trying to hear what the handlers there were telling him.
Whatever it was, Shane’s fate was sealed at that moment. Montreal’s fanbase turned entirely on him, and so did many others.
2022
Tumblr media
Shane doesn’t make the NHL roster. He isn’t really supposed to. The Kraken’s roster is fine without him and they’d rather let him develop.
Doesn’t matter how logical that is. He’s called bust. He’s called attitude problems.
Shane still gets a few NHL games. He looks fine but not quite ready, as you might expect from anyone his age.
Doesn’t matter the logic. He’s called a disappointment.
Shane is sent to the AHL for conditioning, because it’s something they can do. Famously, the Firebirds adore him and actually refuse to send him back up because they insist he attend the rookie holiday party like any other rookie.
Doesn’t matter, though. Fans outside the Kraken fanbase question what Shane Wright is doing in the AHL or in the press box. Montreal fans taunt him with Juraj’s name in his comments. They post gifs of Juraj’s goals in replies to tweets that mention Shane.
So it’s very predictable that when Montreal comes to play in Seattle in December, all eyes are on Juraj and Shane. (Who love each other, by the way) (have I said that? They’re liking each other’s insta posts all the time during this time period)
(Doesn’t matter.)
It’s very clear during this game that the Kraken want this game to be Shane’s. They play for him.
And it happens.
Tumblr media
Shane Wright scores his first NHL goal against Montreal.
The Kraken lose the game but it almost doesn’t matter. The story is still his goal.
The media asks him about his goal in the scrum and while he initially brushes it off, he’s perhaps too honest and earnest for his own good as he acknowledges that, yes, it felt good to score against Montreal.
WJC 2023
After that, Shane goes to the World Juniors Championship, where he’s reunited with Brennan Othmann and Brandt Clarke. They’re all aware this is likely the last time they’ll be playing together as they’ve all been drafted to different professional organizations.
Shane is named captain. More question this choice than congratulate it. Fans simply can’t fathom that the kid they’ve decided has attitude problems is good.
The reality is that he’s the kid setting up the goal posts for the team, helping the equipment managers for the tournament. But you don’t hear that as much.
It doesn’t really matter. The story is Connor Bedard. And for good reason! He is truly magnificent.
Shane is solid but not magnificent in the way Connor Bedard is.
Canada still wins gold in a white-knuckle OT win.
They win on Shane Wright and Brennan Othmann’s birthday.
It’s a good day.
Tumblr media
2023
Before and after the WJC, it’s rumored Shane wants a trade out of Kingston.
There are a few rumors about why.
One is that Kingston just isn’t competitive and he wants to win.
Two is that he doesn’t feel very safe there, that he’s being targeted and the team around him isn’t well-equipped to defend that or rally around him.
Three, of course by now, is that he’s got an attitude problem and he’s the worst kid ever.
And if you’re rolling your eyes or asking for proof or so annoyed by this, yeah lol. Yeah. It’s constant. The constant deluge of people who don’t give a shit about Shane’s development except to call him a lost cause for no reason is really something to behold.
But he’s traded out of Kingston, losing the captaincy in the process, and joins the Windsor Spitfires. Like let that sink in: he loses his captaincy. Whatever the reason for wanting a trade out of that team, he gives up leadership. It matters to get out of there.
It goes okay for him, but not great.
He also gets injured almost right away. Like when I say he’s getting targeted, I MEAN IT. These kids are brutal and they know that they can get noticed if they attack the kid that everyone else is watching.
After the juniors season concludes, he joins the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the AHL for their playoff run, getting all the way to a heartbreaking game 7 OT loss in the finals.
And after that, his project is set: make it impossible for them to send him back to juniors.
2023-2024
Okay so. Here’s what we’re looking at during the start of the 23-24 season.
First, due to his exceptional status way back when, Shane should be eligible to join with either the AHL or the NHL (for those unaware, you have to put in a certain number of games/seasons in the juniors leagues before being eligible to go “pro” in the AHL.)
Second, though, due to all the injuries he incurred, he is technically one game short of eligibility. ONE. But this would mean he would have to sign an entire season with juniors.
Third, Ron Francis announces he’ll seek an exception.
The internet reaction is caught between making fun of him for not making the NHL, crying about him getting special treatment, and again calling his character into question.
It’s just the same shit. It’s the same. Shit.
He’s granted eligibility because it’s the right thing to do, and he’s actually able to enjoy a full season in one place.
He thrives with the Firebirds. He’s able to develop at his own pace without the pressure of a letter on his chest. He’s allowed to make friends and grow.
Shane becomes more comfortable joking in front of media, though still delivers the most earnest answers out of his peers that I’ve seen. He can’t turn it off, I fear.
Shane’s up a couple times with the Kraken which is great, too. He and Matty Beniers room together whenever he’s up with them and they report being close! It’s so good!
The Firebirds make it all the way to the finals and lose again and I don’t want to talk about that or I’ll cry.
Actually I want to cry maybe. Because in the immediate aftermath, Shane is seen skating to each and every one of his teammates, picking up their heads.
Like physically holding their chins up so they can face the handshake line.
Kneeling on the ice with those that can’t stand in the heartbreak.
He’s that guy.
But attitude problems, right?
2024
That brings us to right now.
After a summer of more training and development, Shane shows up at rookie camp. He’s there as a leader, pulled out before the rookie tournament.
Finally, he’s protected. He won’t be there to be beaten up, a sacrifice for some kids who want to be noticed.
Shane will likely make the NHL roster this year and it matters so much because of…all of this.
It matters because questions of his character and attitude won’t just vanish. If they haven’t disappeared by now, with all the evidence out there to the contrary, they won’t disappear ever.
Shane matters to Kraken fans because he has become the picture of our early identity. To be dismissed without even a chance to prove people wrong? That’s Kraken hockey, baby, and it’s also Shane Wright’s professional trajectory thus far.
But his time may have arrived. So maybe ours has, too.

i just think if you are going to get really passionate about any deeply cultural show with distinctive ethnic names, and you are going to be so passionate about it, in fact, that you are going to consistently post about it in a public space for other people to see and/or you're going to write fanfiction about it, then you should at least make an effort to correctly spell the characters' names and know how to refer to them.
while fandom spaces are indeed for your personal enjoyment, there is a willful ignorance in the way a lot of people navigate fandoms surrounding media that is more culturally alien to them that reflects their subconscious unwillingness to take these cultural differences and intricacies into consideration. in my post's case, as i am chinese and am frequently in fandoms for chinese media, i can only speak on the fandom etiquette around names from shows that are generally more popular in english-speaking circles, like word of honor, the untamed, etc. and to be completely straightforward i think the name and terminology butchering has been pretty bad with some fandoms and absolutely unbearable in others.
"but i'm bad with names/i'm bad at spelling!" i can empathize. but i think making excuses is also a terribly avoidant thing to do. type with more care. find a method that works for you. the cultural context is crucial to the show and its characters; why are you here if you don't care about it? and yes, not paying mind to name usage is absolutely an ignorant thing to do, even if you are doing it unintentionally. obviously, spelling a name wrong does not indicate you are someone with that kind of prejudice, but not making any effort to get it right is irresponsible and insensitive, especially considering that native english speakers in the west have an extensive history of being dismissive and rude toward ethnic names, chinese ones included.
lastly, because this website has a victim complex that almost rivals twitter's:
the aim of this post isn't to imply that anyone who misuses or misspells names are bad people who should be witchhunted and torn apart (nor am i going to do that, which is why i am making a post about it), or that people who have dyslexia and other disability issues with reading & spelling accurately just need to "get better" (see: "find a method that works for you"). typos are not morally wrong & my point is not to shame anyone. i just hope people can find it in themselves to reevaluate their own stubbornness and just—learn to tread with more care. to treat these stories and their characters with the consideration that they already give to the media they're most familiar with, and to approach the cultural learning curve with willingness, or else just don't engage with such things at all if you are not able to understand that to enjoy them fully and deeply requires you to actually interact with the cultural context in which they were created.

After Walt kills all of Mike’s guys he goes to Hank and Marie’s house, Hank talks about a summer job he had when he was younger where he would mark trees. Walt says it sounds nice, Hank says it wasn’t that great, but maybe he should have enjoyed it more because “tagging trees is a lot better than chasing monsters.” Walt stares at him for a moment before responding “I used to love to go camping.” As I’ve been rewatching this time Hank and Walt’s relationship has stuck out to me, specifically how Walt sees Hank. Hank is a DEA agent who is good at his job (as good as a cop can be) he has a nice house and money, he has a wife who works because she wants to not because she has to, he’s got a good relationship with his friends, family and coworkers. He’s going nowhere but up and Walt hates it. Hank is another example of everything Walt isn’t, and we see this from the very beginning. Many people have talked about this, so I want to go back to the scene I was originally talking about. The way Walt looks at Hank is with such resentment, he even looks offended by what Hank said and kinda disappointed, it makes me feel like Walt didn’t go over there to see his kids, but to bask in the glory and praise of Hank. To hear Hank say that Heisenberg is always ten steps ahead of him “A day late and a dollar short” if you will. He wanted that ego boost. He’s not getting it from Skyler, he’s not getting it from Jesse and he’s not getting it from Hank. He’s gotten to the point where he has all this money and power and control, and no one is impressed, they hate it, fear it, they’re disgusted by it. They want nothing to do with it, nothing to do with him. So, he stops, but he’s too late and one trip to the bathroom ruins it all. Walt never could pay attention to the small things

Since I've pretty much stopped finding new words to add to it, I might end up posting that "charr name guide" I was fiddling with.
That is, if I can recover from meds-induced brain mushiness 😶‍🌫️

Hello!
Love your Jamie/Jones fics and the two most recent had me giggling away.
If I may offer one constructive piece of information:
Bollocks with an o = testicles
Bullocks with a u = working cattle
Although I did get a giggle out of imagining oxen when you used bullocks, I’m pretty sure you meant to use bollocks in these fics.
I hope this isn’t overstepping, but if it was me I’d want to know, so I’m letting you know.
Thanks for the reading and enjoyment!
THIS IS THE FUNNIEST TYPO I HAVE EVER MADE IN MY LIFE.

Here are the Thoughts™️I promised @discordkittenterumi
This post is a much longer follow to this post from last night as I was listening to episode 60.
This post is also in conversation with with something @peppedstep mentioned about Neil’s loyalty to the coterie, which I touch on briefly.
Everything sort of solidified in my brain after finishing 60 at like 2 am last night.
In 60, we see Neil wake up in a strange place with Weathers and Amara with him. The last thing he remembers is running from his sire which seems to be several days ago.
Neil also does not remember much of Baghdad (which is a whole separate post that is coming. I have many thoughts about Nara and Neil in that situation).
He routinely has panic attacks, some of which lead to dissociation. For example, before his trial in 37 and 38, we see him go catatonic when he realizes his haven is under attack. Dissociation is not usually something that happens to someone once and then never again. It’s a coping mechanism, and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say it’s something he experiences, perhaps not regularly, but with some sort of frequency.
In addition, many of his rituals require his mind to be separated from his body, and we know kalif also impacts his cognitive function as also seen in Baghdad. He has the capability of astral projecting which leaves his body behind, defenseless. The ritual with the bull in 6, he had others stay nearby just in case something were to happen. The second time he completes the ritual, Johnny escorts him.
Neil is often dependent on the people around him to keep him safe, and we see him repeatedly look to others for their judgement before he makes a decision on his own. He looks to Nara to trust Jubair, and he looks to Amara to trust Catherine and this mission. In these two cases in particular, he’s forced to rely on others’ assessments of the situation because he cannot make his own. In addition, relies on Britta and Miles to defend him in court while Johnny and Wynn take care of his haven. He also places an immense amount of trust in the coterie and their decisions, generally speaking.
Peppedstep mentioned that family is important to Neil, the coterie is important to Neil. He consistently revolves around the idea of keeping them together and spending their final nights together. I agree, but to add another layer to that, Neil trusts everyone in the coterie, and as has often been discussed, trust is an extremely rare commodity for Kindred, and in some cases doesn’t exist at all. What Neil has with the coterie almost seems to be unprecedented given the general picture of the Camarilla and Kindred society the audience is presented with. He knows these people will protect him and/or his body when he is unable to.
I would imagine, without them, his quality of life would be diminished, and all it would take is one mistake, one bad episode, for him to meet final death or another horrible fate, especially considering his abilities. It was a stroke of luck that Amara and Weathers picked Neil up.
His drug use, mental health issues, and magical abilities all work closely together to form a complex web of memory loss and a distrust of his own opinions. Even further, I would argue that his memory loss contributes to his lack of a sense of identity.
I believe it’s been mentioned a few times that Neil doesn’t really have a strong sense of identity (I am not going to sort through all 60 episodes to find those sources though, sorry! I do think it might have been brought up at the party when Fester was preparing him?), and that’s proven by how he talks about his worth early on when Wynn confronts him after the bull ritual. He, and I am paraphrasing here, believes he is useful because he can provide the coterie with knowledge. Later on, he mentions that Miles kept him around because of his specific abilities which again, his worth is tied up in his usefulness to people.
This mentality is compounded by his early history with his sire. In 51 or 52 (I can’t remember which and I’m not going to look it up), it’s described that Neil looks at his sire the way one might look at an abusive parent. Neil is absolutely terrified of this person even now. Based on Neil’s nonconfrontational personality, some of his coping mechanisms in the face of this abuse could easily be making himself small, agreeing with his sire, etc. leading to the people-pleasing nature we see in Neil now. Peppedstep also posited that Neil could have been Embraced to be made in his sire’s image. We know he is a loner, we know he has visions, and maybe he also feels the need for family in his own demented way. Regardless of if that is true, Neil’s sire had a massive effect on who Neil became as a Kindred and without question would influence his sense of identity. If Peppedsteps’s theory is true, then Neil’s sire would have stripped away any sense of who he was to remake him in his image.
TLDR: Neil has memory loss from a combination of drug use, mental health issues, and magical abilities which make him reliant on others for his safety in certain circumstances and further exacerbate his lack of a sense of identity.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
