Cleopatra of Macedon
Cleopatra of Macedon (355/4-308 BCE), daughter of Philip II of Macedon (reign 359-336 BCE) and his Molossian queen, Olympias of Epirus (c. 375-316 BCE), was the only full sister of Alexander the Great (reign 336-323 BCE). Born in Pella, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia, Cleopatra grew up as a royal princess in the Argead court. She later became the queen of Epirus through her marriage to her maternal uncle, Alexander I of Epirus (reign 343/2-331 BCE). Their son, Neoptolemus II (reign 302 to 297 or 295 BCE), was very young when his father left for a military expedition in Italy. In his absence, Cleopatra reigned as a regent almost independently for a few years.
Despite this prestigious background, Cleopatra's life is poorly documented, and what is known about her is limited and often controversial. Unlike her mother and older half-sister, Cynane (c. 357-323 BCE), who are portrayed with more distinctive and assertive images in ancient records, Cleopatra's significance is overall associated with her role in the political strategies of her male, and sometimes even female, peers. Ironically, she spent the rest of her relatively long life as an independent woman, namely without any appointed kyrios (male guardian), while trying to find a suitable husband. Although courted by many significant leaders of her time, Cleopatra's several plans for marriage failed, and she ultimately lost her life over her final attempt.
Early Life & Marriage
Like her father, Philip II, and brother Alexander, Cleopatra was born in Pella, the new capital of the kingdom of Macedonia established by her great-great-grandfather, Archelaus of Macedon (reign 413-399 BCE). The city of Pella, meaning ‘stone' or 'rock', was constructed at the beginning of the 4th century BCE about one kilometre east of its modern successor to replace the old capital, Aigai. Cleopatra's date of birth, 355/4 BCE, is essentially estimated in relation to Alexander's in 356 BCE, and sometimes causes confusion since Cleopatra Eurydice, Philip II's seventh and last wife, is also believed to share Cleopatra's birth date. The name Cleopatra, meaning ‘honour to her father', might have been selected after Archelaus' prominent wife, allegedly the first Cleopatra of Macedon (as stated by Aristotle in his Politics). According to extant inscriptions, the popularity of this name in the Greek world dawned at her time, around the 4th century BCE.
Cleopatra's early years in Pella are still obscure to us, but many scholars believe that young girls in the Macedonian court were liable to receive a relatively high level of education. This arrangement most likely stems from the fact that Macedonian kings were often away on military campaigns, and so royal women were left responsible for managing religious, administrative, and political matters within the court during their husbands' absences or acting as regents for their underage male heirs. In this context, it is likely that Cleopatra received at least some of the education provided to her brother, Alexander, and his companions in Pella.
When Cleopatra turned 18, she was given in marriage to her mother's brother, Alexander I of Epirus. He was the son and heir of Neoptolemus I (reign 370-357 BCE), who had been jointly ruling Epirus with his brother, Arybbas (reign 370-343 BCE). Alexander I was only a child when his father died, and his uncle became the sole ruler. To protect the young prince from potential threats, Philip II brought him to Pella, where he was raised alongside his own nephew and niece, Alexander and Cleopatra.
Around 343 BCE, when Alexander I was in his early twenties, Philip II deposed Arybbas and returned the throne of Epirus to him. In 337 BCE, Olympias left the Macedonian court to take refuge with him in Epirus. She was offended by Attalus, the guardian and uncle of Philip II's new bride, Cleopatra Eurydice, who had disrespected Olympias at the wedding without facing any confrontation from Philip. While there, Olympias tried to persuade her brother to oppose her husband, but Alexander I refused and instead agreed to reaffirm his alliance with Philip II by marrying Cleopatra.
The wedding, as testified by almost every writer past and present, was extremely lavish, partly as an apologetic welcome back to Olympias, but most likely as "an international panēguris with public processions, sacrifices, and theatrical performances" to promote the power and prominence of Macedonia (Carney, Philip II, 47). During these celebrations in October 336 BCE, Philip II was assassinated when coming out of the theatre in Aigai. His assassin, Pausanias of Orestis, who served as one of his bodyguards, was immediately killed by another bodyguard, Leonnatus (356-322 BCE), a friend and companion of Alexander from the royal house of Lynkestis, hence a relative of Philip's mother, Eurydice I (reign 393-369 BCE).

Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy Public Release May 29th 2025 Update and Financial Status Update
Well, we did it, another rising monthly quota hit, we stay in business.
We ended May with $2,520.72/$2,321.74, (definitely started out in a slump, but the fans really pulled through for us in the second half) and are currently beginning June with $106.57/$2,898.83.
Luckily, Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy just hit #1 on itchio’s Most Popular for TTRPGs, so that should help us out. If you like Eureka and want to help us out more, go give it a 5-star rating on itchio. (It’s one of those stupid algorithms where anything less than 5 stars will tank ratings.) We are currently around #65 on the Top Rated tab and if we got a hundred more 5-star ratings we would be around #35. Two-hundred more and we would be all the way in the top 20!
Oh any in case anyone missed it, all Eureka content on itchio has just been updated. The Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy changelog is under the cut below. The changelogs for Adventure Modules Vol. 1, The Fanservice Files, and The XXX-Files will get their own posts.
Here’s a summary of the changelog. This is a big one. There’s tons of tweaks and major improvements all over the book, we finally fixed the chapter titles, tons of new art, improvements to the mystery writing guide, and we FINALLY made it to the paranormal stuff in copy-editing. A bunch of the beginning quarter of the paranormal chapter has been rewritten to be cleaner, more legible, and to better articulate both the lore and themes and of Eureka. Oh also the cops in Eureka are more racist now.
CHANGE LOG
WHOLE BOOK
Copy-editing Progress: Thoroughly copy-edited up to p. 436. (Was 302 in last public release.)
We also released Eureka adventure modules “The Eye of Neptune” and “FORIVA: The Angel Game” into free beta on itch.io. Scroll up to find the link!
We also just released a small expansion for Eureka that was intended to just be an April Fools thing but spiraled into an actual full expansion, check out Eureka: The Fanservice Files here! https://anim-ttrpg.itch.io/eureka-the-fanservice-files
And another mini-expansion!
And a short-story set in the world of Eureka!
Added a bunch more art and made a lot of it smaller - this has resulted in some snoops looking a little crunchy with the lines aliasing a little, but that will be fixed in the final release - we just need to convert them all to vectors.
CHAPTER ONE
Alright alright we’ll put the examples of play back in at some point but we will need to simplify and rewrite them a bit.
Many small clarifications and typo fixes.
Fixed typo in Buying Food.
Clarified only one exacerbating factor applies at a time.
Added sidebar to “Composure” explaining that the system doesn’t simulate ordinary life, it tracks mental state during adventures (which are high-pressure and stressful).
Clarified the purpose of the Quick Terms section
Moved the Heat section to Chapter One.
Made racism of cops in Eureka more mechanicized.
Generally clarified and cleaned up the Heat section.
Specified that Heat passively decreases at the end of each day.
Added a sidebar clarifying things about advanced prosthetics
Clarified that when an investigator is paying for medical treatment, any resulting Financial Stress Composure roll happens after their treatment concludes.
Clarified injured and incapacitated statuses
Wrote what happens if a character fails two of the same type of injury rolls
Fixed oversight so that incapacitation does not affect Wealth rolls.
Clarified how to make a roll and its equivalent in Quick Terms.
Added damaged snoop
Added Split the Party art
Added Maggie example investigator
Added Elia example investigator
CHAPTER TWO
Many small clarifications and typo fixes
Made Kleptomaniac Trait also give a bonus to Pickpocketing
Clarified Real Capybara Hours and Wicked Traits, that they don’t apply a modifier in situations where the character is unconscious or something like that.
Fixed a typo in the Forgery write-in skill.
Clarified when rolls apply for Femme Fatale.
Adjusted Property Modifiers of just about everything. In general, vehicles now have lower PMs and stationary residences have higher PMs.
Added PMs to “Other Property.”
Added bags (portable items with their own PM) to “Miscellaneous”
Added new possibility for Partial Successes to Wealth rolls to obtain items.
Changed how the Burnout Trait works. It is now an ability that can be activated each time the investigator earns a Eureka! Point, and lasts until they take Penetrative Damage as a result of the Trait.
Temporarily took out the Ask Questions Later Trait.
Moved Inhuman NPCs and Custom Traits to Chapter Two.
Gave boats, planes, and helicopters a very basic set of acceleration values. Won’t be more detailed because they don’t come up as much and also because we didn’t hit that stretch goal in the kickstarter.
Added a sidebar about taxis
Added much more guidance on how interpersonal skills should be called for and rolled.
Changed the “Poverty” Fear in “Tiers of Fear” to “Financial Stress” because some people thought that it was supposed to be a fear of poor people and not a fear of the effects of becoming poor. Yes people really read it that way.
Added a reminder under the Wealth skill to modifiers for buying food.
Added “Car Crashes” to optional Fears
Made Comfort Item Trait have a +/-2 instead of a +/-1.
Made it so Real Capybara Hours doesn’t provide a bonus to Composure rolls for the individual who has the trait.
Completely redid the Ask Questions Later Trait and added it back in.
Added “Six Days from Retirement” Trait
Added “Disrespect” to the Mandatory Fears.
Clarified that I’m Okay, You’re Okay can only be used once per scene.
Clarified that what skill rating is “average” varies from skill to skill
Clarified Threaten even more.
Made it so the Perfectionist trait ability cannot be used with Composure rolls nor with rolls from Elementary! or Woo-woo.
Reworded Gangway Trait so it is more compatible with certain paranormal Traits
Fixed Close Combat Skill snoop
Fixed None of My Business Trait snoop
CHAPTER THREE
CHANGED THIS FROM CHAPTER 2.5 TO CHAPTER 3
CHAPTER FOUR
Many small clarifications and typo fixes
Fixed one of the entries on the obstacle tables saying “light cover” instead of “heavy cover”
Fixed a sentence that didn’t have an ending in Turns, Rounds, and Movement.
Added a reminder that taking damage prompts an appropriate Composure roll or morale loss.
Updated some examples in Chapter Three and also added more art
Clarified that Composure does apply a cap to Weight Class
Removed a special thanks credit per that person’s request
Added a note that Eureka really works best with 3 or fewer players and you really should not go beyond 4.
Changed this chapter from chapter 3 to chapter 4
Also changed chapter 2.5 to chapter 3.
Added snoops demonstrating different types of cover
Added Investigator vs Investigator snoop
CHAPTER FIVE
Heavy copy-editing on the first few sections
Removed certain things like “spotlighting” and other basic Narrator principles for review and rewrites. Some of this is probably going back in once we re-evaluate it.
Removed “How We Play Eureka.” Playing by the rules in the book should already outline the intended experience, and many options given in that section are just RAW now.
Changed “Jumpscares” from an optional rule to a normal rule. It is still used at discretion.
Tweaked the way jumpscares work. Jumping characters must have their actions declared before the “something” is revealed.
Moved the “Heat” section to Chapter One
Tweaked and clarified the entire module writing guide
Added a new section under writing Truths, “Nested Truths (A.K.A. Two Kinds of Cookies).
Clarified reasons for setting restrictions
Took out “Designing Areas for Shootouts.”
Moved Inhuman NPCs and Custom Traits to Chapter Two.
Took out Writing Custom Monster Traits. We will probably rewrite it later.
Completely rewrote many entire sections of Chapter Five.
Like a bunch of sections
Got rid of the “Bad Guys” section.
Changed this chapter from chapter 7 to chapter 5.
Added “No Time Travel” section.
Added “No Masquerade” section
Added explicit guidance to the module writing guide about module writers being allowed to ban certain traits if they think that are not a fit for the scenario they have written
Added conversion snoop
CHAPTER SIX
Changed vampire sunlight composure roll from +5 to +7, it was still way too intense even at +5
Added another fan-submitted hunting table entry (those are still open, contact us at [email protected] if you want to submit your own.)
Gave gorgons an additional small bonus to their second Swallowing Hold when swallowing live prey.
Clarified a sentence in the “The Gentry” section of the Fairy rules.
Added some new snoops to the mage powers.
Added a temporary author’s note about the vampires and Christianity.
Edited a fan submitted hunting table entry at her request.
Since bags are now usable by all investigators, fixed the text regarding those for Fairies. They also get a bit better PM modifier with bags than with homes and vehicles.
Added several more fan-submitted hunting table entries.
Changed this from chapter 8 to chapter 6.
Added two new fan-submitted hunting table entries.
FINALLY got to doing some real copy-editing on this chapter
Rewrote the introduction to the chapter
Rewrote “No Masquerade”
Removed People as Prey section
Gave gorgons the option for a tail, based mechanically off of the succubus tail from The XXX-Files.
Changed how the Psychic Detective Mage Power works.
Added another fan submission hunting table entry.
Changed the name of the Monster Essay section to “Takers” and rewrote it a little.
Rewrote the section “The Less You Know the Better” and renamed it to “Mysteries and the Inexplicable”
Rewrote “Believable Skepticism” section.
Fixed some typos
Added some author’s notes as quick patches for stuff we haven’t properly got to in editing yet
Made more clear that the paranormal stuff does not have to be used if your group wants to do mundane mysteries with an all-mundane party, we designed Eureka to be able to do mundane or paranormal mysteries well.
Partially rewrote “Monsters are ‘Overpowered’ by Design” and changed its name to “Stop Worrying About “Balance’”
Better codified the composure roll that is made when using paranormal powers and keyworded it.
Added Gorgon Trait snoop
Added Living Doll Trait example investigator
Added Living Doll Trait art

I don't normally post trailers, but this one is exceptional. I have never seen anything like it. It's a 1977 double wide mid-century modern in Borrego Springs, CA that was lovingly restored, not renovated. 3bds, 2ba, and only $135K. The space rent is $930mo, but there are 2 golf courses, pickleball court, heated pool open 24hrs., bocce ball, hiking, card club, and 1 acre dog park. Always something going on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, the description doesn't specify, but trailers usually come furnished.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What a cool light fixture. I also like how the big ficus tree looks.
Tumblr media
The lamps and hanging lights are original MCM.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Check out the round kitchen. It looks like the Coppertone appliances may have been original and the harvest gold cooktop, ovens, and sinks are newer.
Tumblr media
Check out this classic MCM fixture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Original paneling on the walls and lovely art.
Tumblr media
You don't see furniture pieces like that table/floor lamp- it's also a display piece.
Tumblr media
Bedroom #1 has mirrored doors on the closet and a shag carpet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The family room has a large wrap-around sofa, and behind it a built-in sofa table. (I wonder if the plush dog conveys, too.)
Tumblr media
The first bath has the glass doors on the tub that were so popular in MCM baths. Love that art piece on the wall.
Tumblr media
The secondary bedroom has a nice window. It feels like stepping back time, and it's so cozy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2nd bath has a lovely spa tub, and look at the light above it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike most trailer parks where there's only a tiny walk-space between the trailers, this one has quite a nice yard.
Tumblr media
There's a new-looking cement driveway and car port, also.
Tumblr media
The photos don't show it, but there's a screened-in porch, also.

Thursday Patreon Update June 5th 2025
This is a small one of course since it’s only been a few days since the last big public release, but there’s still plenty of reason to check out this patreon release. New Trait, big improvements to some old Traits, and better updated rules for throwing objects and scent tracking.
There’s also some small tweaks to the mini-expansions and a little bit of new art.
Oh crap I also freaking forgot. We have a new official Eureka adventure module that is currently patreon exclusive while we get it playtested.
Murder at the Belle Nuit
Here’s the hook:
A vibrant entertainment convention bursts with life and money, but of all the possible places to stay for the night, the Belle Nuit Estate is chosen only by the most cheap or curious or clueless, a hotel with only one claim to fame - that six years ago within its walls, one person murdered and dissected another, uploaded the butchery online, and was never caught. Even now, the hotel barely breathes through the visits of, once more, the cheap or curious or clueless. When a freak storm floods the streets, such people might regret choosing this hotel as shelter, but only more so when a new body shows up overnight - dissected like its most infamous guest. The investigators are stranded with strangers, any of whom could be a murderer poised to strike again, and behind any door could be the next clue, body, or killing strike, all in a deathtrap hotel sealed off from the world through a hellish storm that assaults the aging walls. May they enjoy their stay.

30 Statues of English Kings & Queens
This statue gallery covers 30 English kings and queens over 1400 years, from the early Anglo-Saxon rulers to Queen Elizabeth II (reign 1952-2022). The statues are primarily located in England. Some have local significance, based in the former capitals of the small Anglo-Saxon kingdoms like Canterbury, Tamworth and Winchester. However, some of these early rulers were canonised as saints, becoming important figures throughout the Christian world. This explains why St. Oswald (reign 634-642) has a statue in Italy, and St. Edward the Confessor (reign 1042-1066) has one in the United States of America.
There are also statues of foreign consorts and conquerors in their native countries of France and Spain, warrior kings with statues near the site of their death, like Harold Godwinson (reign 1066) at Hastings and Richard III of England (reign 1483-1485) at Leicester and modern monarchs with statues in the former colonies they ruled over, like Australia and India.
Over time, we see the depictions of the king's role change. Richard I of England (reign 1189-1199) and Edward I of England (reign 1272-1307) are depicted as warrior-kings with swords held aloft in victory. Yet, as a king became more of a figurehead and less of a warlord, they would be depicted as spreaders of peace and wisdom, as with the statue of James I of England (reign 1603-1625), standing on the walls of a library, where he wields a book, rather than a sword and above him, is the inscription, "Blessed are the peacemakers."
Some of these statues were controversial at the time of building and continue to be so today. The construction of the Oliver Cromwell (reign 1653-1658) statue outside the House of Commons was fiercely debated and opposed by many who saw it as an offence against the monarchy. In Australia, which retains the British monarch as its Head of State, a statue of George V (reign 1910-1936) was recently beheaded by anti-monarchy activists.
The sculptors who created these statues found ancient and modern inspirations for their subjects. The statues of James II of England (reign 1685-1688) and George III of Great Britain (r. 1760-1820) were constructed not to depict them as they looked but as Roman Emperors, as part of the Classical Art movement. Nor was the statue of Henry V of England (reign 1413-1422) designed to look like him, but rather like the actor Laurence Olivier, who played Henry V in a 1944 movie.
These statues are found in a wide variety of locations. From traditional sites outside churches, castles, and in town centres, some are found in unexpected places. In Hong Kong, a statue of George VI (reign 1936-1952) is to be found in a Zoo. Edward the Confessor's American statue is located on a university campus, while Edward I stands guard next to a football pitch, and Henry V observes traffic from a West Midlands roundabout.
The gallery ends with a statue of Queen Elizabeth II, made in November 2022 to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee (70 years of her reign). It is located on the walls of York Minster, which visitors can observe on their way to see the statue of Henry I of England (reign 1100-1135), which is the oldest statue in the gallery, built during the reign of Henry V, in the 1420s.

"Ten years ago, Microsoft released the source for MS-DOS 1.25 and 2.0 to the Computer History Museum, and then later republished them for reference purposes. This code holds an important place in history and is a fascinating read of an operating system that was written entirely in 8086 assembly code nearly 45 years ago.
Today, in partnership with IBM and in the spirit of open innovation, we’re releasing the source code to MS-DOS 4.00 under the MIT license. There’s a somewhat complex and fascinating history behind the 4.0 versions of DOS, as Microsoft partnered with IBM for portions of the code but also created a branch of DOS called Multitasking DOS that did not see a wide release."
