#11 "i want to see you" with Regulus pretty please?
well, when you ask so nicely, of course babe<3
Prompt: E.11 "I want to see you"
Words: 1.5k
Warnings: not proofread, implied smut (mdni), foreplay, heavy makeout, implied trauma and mental health issues on reggie's part, creating a safe space during sexy times, established but new relationship
Note: this man is not okay and i want to personally rectify that. don't know how i feel about this one, but it's something!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The curtains in Regulus’ dorm are drawn, bathing the room in a soft glow from the lantern on the bedside table. You have been spending more nights here than in your own bed the past few weeks, your lives being tangled more and more, and the thought of it all tasted sweet. Each night, you fall into this rhythm, this back-and-forth dance of give and take, of pushing and pulling, daring the other to take it another step.
His hands are at your waist as you straddle his lap where he sits against the headboard of his bed, fingers tracing absent-minded patterns across your skin. Your shirt is discarded somewhere on the floor, leaving you half-exposed, while Regulus is still fully dressed, save for his tie, which is deliciously loosened. The knot hangs precariously around his neck, the top few buttons of his shirt undone, revealing the pale skin beneath. His chest is heaving and his heart erratic beneath your palm.
His lips meet yours again, soft at first, like he is testing the waters, but you can feel the tension rolling off him in waves, the barely restrained control he is trying so hard to maintain. It’s intoxicating, the way he holds himself back, but you want more. You need more.
You deepen the kiss and feel him melt slightly into you as your fingers tangle into his dark curls, pulling him impossibly closer.
When you break the kiss, you rest your forehead against his, breaths mingling. His hands still linger at your waist.
“Regulus,” you murmur, voice low and edged with something unspoken, "I want to see you.”
His brow furrows slightly, lips parting as if he’s about to speak, but nothing comes out. You bring a hand to his face, thumb brushing over his cheek, his jawline tense beneath your touch. You know he understands, even if he doesn’t want to.
“I understand why you're scared,” you repeat, voice softer but no less insistent. Your fingers move to the knot of his tie, slowly pulling it loose, and you feel his breath stutter against your skin. “But I care for you. I will take care of you, I just want to see you. All of you.”
You mean the words in every possible way. You want to see him — vulnerable, bare, unguarded. Not just physically, you want him to let go, to stop hiding from you, from himself.
His eyes flicker to yours, wide and uncertain, but you can see the desire, the passion, burning in them. A spark that matches the fire simmering inside you. His hesitation makes your heart ache, because you know why he feels the way he is, why he is wired like this, how much he fears losing control, of unravelling in front of you. But you also know how much he wants this — how much he wants you.
Your hands move to the buttons of his shirt, undoing them one by one, your movements slow, deliberate. You give him ample time to stop you, tell you he's too scared, but he just watches you, hunger slowly overtaking his uncertainty. You can still feel the tension radiating from him, the way his breath comes faster with each button undone, as if he's teetering on the edge of something he can’t quite name.
“Let me in,” you whisper, your lips brushing against his collarbone as you push the fabric of his shirt off his shoulders, letting it fall to the floor. “I want to see you fall apart.”
He exhales sharply, like he’s been holding his breath for years. His hands move from your waist to your back, pulling you closer as his lips crash into yours again, more desperate this time, more raw. You can feel the shift, the way his restraint is slipping, the way he is starting to let go.
You’re pressed against him now, your bare skin against the warmth of his chest, the last of his barriers crumbling as you move together. His kisses grow hungrier, his hands rougher as they trace the curve of your spine, the dip of your waist. He groans into your mouth, and the sound sends heat pooling low in your belly.
"I need you," he whispers against your lips. "Just you."
Your hands explore his chest, fingers swirling over his nipples, smiling when he jerks into your touch at the sensation. You let your nails lightly scratch over his stomach, moving slower as you caress his happy trail and eventually the waistband of his trousers. He is receptive to your touch, finally making the occasional sound of enjoyment as he uses his tongue more surely, more passionately. The controlled Regulus Black allows himself to be more sloppy, more desperate, and the mere thought that it's all for you excites you more than anything.
A teasing finger slips beneath the edge of fabric, pulling slightly at it as you push yourself further into him. You feel him tense slightly against you again, though this time it's not from hesitation — it’s from the sheer intensity of everything he’s feeling. He’s right there, on the cusp of losing himself in you, and it’s driving him equally as mad.
You pull back just enough to meet his gaze, your free hand caressing his jaw and neck, your chest heaving as you try to catch your breath. “Reggie,” you whisper, your voice thick with emotion. “You don’t have to be closed off with me. I’m right here.”
"You are," he repeats, eyes holding yours intensely, the weight of your words sinking in. You see the war dying inside him — the battle between wanting to keep his walls up and the overwhelming desire to tear them all down for you. One of his hands moves to your thigh while the other holds your back as he lifts you up from his lap to place you on the mattress behind you. You gasp and he smiles, devilishly and beautifully, before kissing you deep.
“Merlin,” he groans against you, his voice low and wrecked, lips trailing down your neck. His teeth graze your skin in a way that has you arching into him and he meets you in turn. He is starting to unravel under your touch, piece by piece, and it’s the most intoxicating thing you have ever seen.
You feel his hands at the clasp of your bra, his fingers only shaking ever so slightly as he undoes it. There is something vulnerable in the way he moves even now, like he is baring himself just as much as you are. When your bra falls away, his breath catches, and for a moment, all he can do is stare at you, his gaze reverent, like he can’t believe you are real.
“So beautiful, so, so gorgeous,” he whispers, already moving down to kiss across your chest with an open mouth, voice rough with need. His hands tremble as they slide up your sides, kneading the flesh, and you can feel how close he is to losing control, but he’s holding on, just barely, because he’s still afraid to fall completely.
You cup his face in your hands, pulling him back up to meet your eyes. “Let go, my love,” you murmur, your voice barely more than a breath. “I want to see you.”
His resolve shatters.
With a low, broken groan, he kisses you again, harder this time, his hands everywhere at once — your hips, your thighs, your breasts. He’s a mess of need and want, his careful control slipping through his fingers like sand. He is undone, and it is everything you’ve been waiting for.
His trousers are the next to go, discarded in a rush as he moves above you, his body pressed to yours, skin to skin. The heat between you is unbearable, but it’s perfect, and when he finally gives in, when he finally lets himself fall apart in your hands, it’s the most beautiful thing in the world.
As his groans fill the space between you, as you pull him closer, your bodies tangled together in a perfect mess, you realise this is what you’ve both been waiting for — raw and real, he is completely yours and you his. He whispers your name into the darkness.

The King was ready for business.
It had been a few days since Loki’s disappearance and every moment that he was gone the village seemed to fall deeper into despair. His mischievous manner was irreplaceable and, in its absence, no one felt much like smiling. The normally happy and content village was almost silent in its despair. The celebrations were cut short and the decorations taken down.
Even Thor’s naturally optimistic nature couldn’t buoy the town up against the waves of sadness that beat against them, eroding any sense of hope. This, their sanctuary, their new life, had been infiltrated and desecrated once more. It had been shameful enough to see a guest taken from their harbour, but for their Prince to have been kidnapped? It was unthinkable, unbearable.
Brunnhilde had attempted to keep your spirits up by inviting you round for drinks and dinner, making sure Thor and Jane took shifts sitting with you in the evenings and insisting that everyone went out to the pub for lunch every day. But there was no saving your smile. Loki’s absence was a void in your heart, in the very depths of you, and no amount of garlic bread and mulled wine from The Dog and Bilgesnipe was going to rectify that.
So she dressed for business instead. Brunnhilde had delayed a formal meeting again only to send messages to the few others she trusted and to wait for the outcome of Thor and Jane’s conversations. She tried to reach Asgardians that had left the village for other adventures and a friend, Carol, dear to her heart and exploring the stars. A last hope, just in case things went wrong.
With a last look in the mirror Brunnhilde tucked a neat braid behind her ear and tugged on the hem of her jacket to make sure it sat right. Perfect. The black suit and crisp shirt was exactly what she needed today as leader, King, of the Asgardians.
“You look very smart,” Thor’s voice, unusually soft, startled her and she turned from the bedroom mirror to her door, where the god stood leaning against the frame and eating an apple.
“Thank you,” she touched the corner of her mouth where it felt like her creamy lipstick might have smudged.
“You’re going to send the message today then?”
“In half an hour. Is Estrid going to attend?”
Thor shrugged.
“Well, did you check on her?”
“Of course.” He looked affronted.
He had been to see you that morning and found the seasonal plant pots by your door devoid of life. The ivy that had trailed over them in jolly curls lay limp in the puddles of melted snow. The poinsettia in the window was entirely dead, it looked like it’d been set on fire. The leaves and petals were so browned and crisp.
Using the spare key he crept inside to find the cottage a mess of blankets and cushions, singed furniture and smashed glass. Upstairs you were curled in the middle of the bed, a nest of Loki’s sweaters and shirts scattered around the room. Your eyes looked puffy, and judging by the way you clung to a sodden tissue Thor could only assume you’d cried yourself to sleep after Brunnhilde made you promise not to go storming off to America following last night’s unsuccessful attempt at distracting you.
“Any news from stars?” Thor took another obnoxiously large bite and Brunnhilde stepped away, glaring.
“Not yet. I’m just - I’m going to concentrate on this call and hopefully, we won’t need anyone else. Did you hear back from the Avengers?”
Thor shook his head sadly. He’d used the official phone that Stark had given him after their first battle together in New York, but the line rang without an answer. Then he’d tried Steve, he was sure the soldier would answer, a fellow warrior bound by duty, he was sure to discuss the situation. But he only talked in pleasantries and refused to allow Thor to even mention Loki’s name before saying goodbye and hanging up. There’d been nothing since.
“Jane had a little more luck though, I suppose.” He said, thoughtfully. Darcy had used her limited influence to arrange a video call with Stark, apparently using up all of the favours owed to her by the Avengers organisation because she now found her work limited and her office smaller than it had been before. “Jane said Darcy has been kept out of some of the levels she used to take her walks in. Perhaps if she is still in the building she can be helpful in the future, should our King allow us to infiltrate and lay siege?” Thor raised an eyebrow and finished the apple, throwing it neatly into a waste paper bin.
Brunnhilde rolled her eyes, but at least it was something. “We’re making formal contact via the video-” she waved her hand to indicate the ether that she’d be speaking into. “We won’t need to lay siege, we can do this the modern way.”
Thor sighed in a knowing way. He’d seen the way modern warfare was carried out by Midgard and it still looked an awful lot like throwing people into fights and hoping you had the bigger sword.
With one last look she grabbed her briefcase, sheathed her sword over her back and made for the door.
Tumblr media
The Long House was just as formally attired as the King and Thor, the higgledy piggledy stack of chairs and tables that normally took up the corner of the room between council meetings, children’s birthday parties and evening get togethers had been neatly removed. The throne, that Brunnhilde usually lounged in with a large understuffed cushion for support, had been polished and moved to the centre of the room, where the Asgardian banners hung from the ceiling between a series of flags, representing the varied makeup of the little village.
Val took her seat, arranging her suit jacket again and rolling her neck as she eyed the camera set up in front of her.
“Is this it?” She didn't exactly understand a lot about Midgardian technology, but the young girl behind the camera, Hildr, seemed confident and nodded enthusiastically.
“We’ll make the call via the laptop, but I thought you'd prefer to have the camera, more professional.” She paused, obviously nervous, this was the first time she'd been called upon for something so serious. Normally it was telekits with politicians where her King rolled her eyes a lot and laughed with her during breaks. There was no jovial bantering now, only solemn faces and tension you could cut like a knife.
“Good - thanks.” Val was kurt but polite, looking over the notes she’d made with Thor the night before.
The former Crown Prince settled behind the camera next to Hildr and gave her a thumbs up and a wide smile.
The blank screen on the laptop made an irritating tinkling noise and then the Avenger’s official conference room came into view. Stark sat between Rogers and Romanoff, their hands folded politely on the shiny desks, their dress equally as stiff and formal.
Val had met the Avengers on a few occasions and had found them to be brave and skilled, but unfortunately as irritating as Loki did. Despite their differences she'd never been at odds with them and had certainly never imagined quarrelling with them. They were, after all, Midgard’s saviours the same as her own family. And they had been helpful and gracious in aiding them when they first arrived. This unknown had dread settling in her stomach, but she rallied, inclining her head politely before speaking.
“Good morning,” she spoke first, hoping that consideration for the time difference and some polite chit chat might help to soften the situation.
“Afternoon.” Stark’s tone was equally as forced, clipped even, and she thought she could sense Roger’s influence in the single word. But it was definitely Romanoff’s suggestion that kept him otherwise quiet, waiting for her to make the first move.
“What unfortunate circumstances we find ourselves in, I hope that we can rectify this situation quickly.”
Thor gave another thumbs up and she noticed that there was a movement from the back of the room, the door opening and then closing almost silently, and your face, still drawn, eyes red with tears. But at least your magic was under control now, your hands tucked firmly into the pockets of your trousers, one of Loki’s thick aran sweaters ruching up where the sleeves were a little too long for your arms.
“Hello, your Highness. I was surprised to hear from you, I didn't think we had any more crazy alien space battles to fight this week.” Stark looked almost bored, almost. Brunnhilde had spent enough times in both war and throne rooms to know when a leader was rattled.
“Majesty.”
“Excuse me?”
“It’s, ‘your Majesty’, but either way, the issue at hand is far from resolved. I call you today as the King of Asgard, insisting on the safe return of Asgard’s Prince Loki to his home of Tønsberg  following his illegal and, frankly, ill-advised kidnapping by the Avengers.” The King sat back in her throne and kept her eyes trained at the eye of the camera. If she looked at you, she would crack and shout and scream and rant and rave, so she remained staring into that camera, as if it might blink at any moment.
“What an assumption,” Stark scoffed, leaning back in his own chair, allowing the lumbar support to bounce when he placed his booted feet on the table. “Who says we have him?”
“We have it on good authority, from someone inside of your compound, that Loki has been taken and imprisoned there.”
Stark shrugged and Brunnhilde exhaled quickly through her nose, tired of the games.
“Stark, I don’t think you understand, release Loki or we will simply turn up and take him back.”
He smirked, “come and get him then,” and the screen went blank.
She stared at herself in the black mirror before propping an elbow on her throne and resting her head. She was getting a migraine, she just knew it was going to be a migraine.
At a simple look from their King the sparse court of Asgardians quietly left the Long Hall until only you, Brunnhilde and Thor remained, silently staring at the black screen.
“We can’t let them get away with this,” you whispered, clenching your teeth to stop the rage that billowed inside of you from escaping.
You’d torched your cottage the night before, the layer of soot that coated your kitchen this morning had been a harsh reminder of your lack of control and, stoking the flames further, you’d sat in the bath hoping the water would stop you from losing control again. Once the half full tub had evaporated you’d given up on that as well, pacing in the cobbled yard at the back of the cottage instead, hoping that the rain would keep your flame from getting too bright.
“Oh, we won’t.” Brunnhilde agreed before sweeping out of the Long Hall and back into the snowy streets.
Tumblr media
Loki lay on his back staring at the ceiling. If he closed his eyes and focussed he could pretend that the fluorescent lights were the warm sun, catching on his high cheekbones while he strolled around the Avenger’s compound with you on his arm. The simple feeling of your skin on his.
If he laced his fingers together on his chest he could remember the feeling of your small hand clutched tightly to his own, the way you always clung to him in your sleep, clenching your fingers when he made even the smallest movement.
When he parted his lips he could almost taste you there, the tip of your tongue, the fullness of your bottom lip.
He surrendered to the memories of you and basked in them, ignoring the sound of voices around him.
Stark was there, he knew, the cadence of his voice so specific, the rhythm so grating that he couldn’t filter it out. Something about a phone call and how his rules didn’t work on this planet.
Loki kept his fine features clear and calm, his face relaxed, not a muscle out of place, not a twitch of his eyebrow. Stark didn’t understand the game he was playing. Thor had been too lenient, too kind and jovial in his friendship with these mortals, always pandering to them and going to their silly missions and parties. As if anything that concerned them could possibly be the responsibility of a god.
He had heard a saying while watching the television with you some weeks before, “there but for the grace of god go I.” It was only because Loki didn’t wish to frighten you that he hadn’t torn the entire compound to pieces before taking you to Tønsberg , but if you were hurt now, or at risk, then there would be no end to his wrath.
Perhaps they had forgotten, in their short mortal lives, their generations that passed in a moment like a summer butterfly lost to the autumn frosts. They had forgotten that he was a god. His brother was a god. His King was an immortal warrior. And you, his precious Asynja, his beautiful darling, you were a Goddess. Despite Stark’s protests, the world would bend to your will whether it wanted to or not.
Tumblr media
Hildr was called back into the Long House to make one final attempt at reconnecting the call. In the interests of politeness Brunnhilde made a show of pretending there must be some technical difficulties and, to Roger’s credit, he played along. A hint of red tinged the tips of his ears. The super soldier had placed both hands on the table around a piece of paper, clearly some sort of script judging by the way his eyes darted down to it every now and again.
Thor felt a tinge of empathy for the man, he was good, deep down, but had spent his entire career, before and after the ice, as a puppet of richer, stronger, more forceful men. Despite what Rogers thought of himself, he was still in Stark’s pocket, after all.
“- while we recognise that the new sovereign state of Tønsberg  has chosen a new King -” he looked up and gave Brunnhilde gave him a small smile, “we also acknowledge that the previous royal family, including Thor Odinson and Loki Laufeyson, have previously held significant positions of power within your home world and new state. However, as a crime has been committed on American soil we, the undersigned, acting as The Avengers, with the authority of the President of the United States, have taken Loki Laufeyson into custody until further notice.”
Thor watched a vein pulse in Brunnhilde’s neck, her jaw clenched. “I understand you think there is some debt owed, but we do not acknowledge your hollow pandering. If Loki Laufeyson is not returned to us in the next twenty four hours we will consider this a declaration of war.”
From behind the camera you stifled a gasp, grabbing Thor’s hand for support. It was everything you wanted to do, to burst into that stupid compound and take him back. To make the Avengers pay for what they’d put you both through, and you were finally, finally, getting the backing of your King. And yet it felt so huge. Asgard would go to war over this, the nation, small as it was, would be at risk and while your heart sang at the thought of getting Loki back, you couldn’t help the leaden weight that had settled in the pit of your stomach at the thought of what it might cost.
Tumblr media
You closed the door of your cottage behind you, leaning against the solid wood and taking a deep breath. The smell of ash and dying embers had replaced the sweet familiar scent of Loki’s cologne, the brew of coffee in the pot and the spiced cakes he seemed to be able to devour in great numbers without ever getting full.
If you closed your eyes you could fool yourself into thinking he was there with you, his handsome face all you needed as he bent to kiss you. The cool touch of his lips. Your magic hummed, calling for its partner, and somewhere in the depths of your being you felt a response, a tug on your heart, and the whisper of his breath on your ear.
“I miss you, Loki.” You whispered, sinking to the floor and letting your head fall to your knees, “I wish I’d told you how much I love you.”
The tears appeared like a well spring, pouring over your cheeks and dousing the angry flames that threatened to take you over again. You were determined to master yourself without Loki’s help. You wiped your cheeks with the back of your hand and studied your face in the little mirror above your key hooks.
It felt so ridiculously domestic, to see his empty space next to your own, and your determination to fight for Loki yourself returned anew. With one last swipe at your soot and tear covered face you focussed, bringing your armour forth and opened your front door ready to face the Avengers yourself.
Tumblr media
You had hardly made it across the harbour when there was a rumble from the cliffs and mountains that flanked the seaside village. Your spear flared instinctively, flames curling around your fingers in blue ribbons.
Across the cobbles Thor and Brunnhilde emerged from the Long House, already in their own battle armour and surveying the mist shrouded peaks above. Through the grey of the clouds the afternoon sun filtered through and the three of you shielded your eyes with your hands as you searched for any sign of the commotion.
Then the clouds parted, and above you was an army, like turrets along the cliff edge, a battalion stood in perfect lines surveying the village below and there, at the base of the cliff, where the Asgardians had set up a style from the park into the wilder countryside beyond, next to the picnic benches and the swings, stood a warrior.
“Welcome to Tønsberg , traveller.” The King called, her voice carrying on the wind.
Faces appeared at the windows of the shops and houses, some shut their curtains, pulling blinds down and reaching out to secure their shutters. Others cracked their windows open, hoping to hear the best of the gossip and be the first in the know.
“Are you Brunnhilde of the Valkyrie, King of the Asgardians?” The warrior shouted back. He was tall and muscular, his face handsome and strong behind his large ornate helmet. He carried a broadsword and round wooden shield, both of which he seemed prepared to use at a moment's notice.
“Yes, who’s asking?” Thor’s fingers danced along Moljir’s handle, lightning crackling and the mist turning into rumbling storm clouds. Your fire answered as well, snaking between the cracks in the cobblestones, ready to ignite.
“My name is King Bres, husband of Brigid. I have brought my army here to return the Lady Estrid to her rightful place in my court and oversee her marriage to her betrothed.”
A chill ran through you, he was your mother’s husband? Yet he hadn’t claimed you as his child the way the gods at the Golden Palace had. Your flame licked your legs, soothing the goosebumps that had risen in the wake of his words.
“The Lady Estrid has sworn herself to Asgard and makes her own decision in such matters,” Val turned to you and the movement caught Bres’ eye as well, his full mouth turned into a cruel smirk.
“I see you continue to misbehave, welp.” He spat, the words filled with venom. “No matter. Your bitch of a mother may have had Lugh hide you from me, but I will have eternity to correct your behaviour now.” His sword gleamed in the crack of Thor’s lighting, the faces at the windows ducking down in response.
“Estrid will decide her fate, she is a member of our court.” Thor repeated.
“There will be no decision when I have obliterated your village, Thor Odinson. Then the welp will come with me.”
It was him, that word, welp, the way your kidnappers had spoken to you, your heart raced. Could he really take you from this place? Would Val and Thor make you go, to protect the village? You couldn’t breathe, there was no air. The grey clouds above you turned stormy, the pressure dropping so quickly your head throbbed, and then there was a crash, so loud it made every face rush back to their windows to look.
Where Bres had been there was now the remains of the charred picnic benches, the park was in ruins. You’d never seen Thor so angry, his brow furrowed as he prepared another bolt of lightning, chasing the battalion on the cliff top back and away from the village.
In return arrows rained down on the village, you ducked under the shelter of the shop’s wooden awning.
“Think on this, Thor Odinson and Brunnhilde of the Valkyries, and return the Lady Estrid to my camp by tomorrow at noon or I shall take your sorry excuse for a realm as punishment.”
Thor pulled Val back into the Long House and slammed the door.

Something a little different today - a full length noise recording hosted via Bandcamp. Really appreciate any support on this!
Audio path is Strega->Erbe-Verb->Magneto. There is a CV feedback path where the CV out from EV is mixed with a negative offset then half-wave rectified, and the resulting signal is fed into Strega's activation input. This combined with manual control of activation interference leads to jittery, chaotic sequences which loop for a while, then spin off into a new direction as changes are made before stabilizing again.

Finally got my Eurorack system updated on ModularGrid — I hadn't gotten around to setting up a few of my custom modules, like the Harald Bluetooth Receiver, the Toy Drum, my true diode Ring Modulator, and my analog logic module "Lola".
Starting with the top left is the Behringer Radar, a contact mic and input amplifier with a gate and a triggered envelope. It's a version of the Mutable Instruments Ears (itself an adaptation of the MTM Mikrophonie); the big change is that all the sensitivity and envelope jumpers are brought out to front panel switches.
Next is one of North Coast Synthesis's "Passive Multiples and Friends", which I built as a mult.
Next is the Behringer Model 182, a clone of the Roland Model 100-series analog sequencer. (A Christmas gift from my wife's parents!)
Next is the MidCentury Modular Dividers, which combines a binary clock divider (simultaneous á2 - á128) and an adjustable (á2 - á9) divider, both based on CMOS chips. (Built from a PCB/panel set).
Next is my homebrew analog logic module Lola. It has two sections: the unary input which takes one signal and outputs its inverse and its half- and full-wave rectified versions, and the binary input which gives you the OR, AND, and XOR of two signals. (Lola is named that because it's mostly based on the Mutable Instruments module "Kinks". I left off its S&H and added the XOR.)
Next is Chaos, a clone of the MI Marbles random gate and voltage generator.
Next is a set of two low-pass gates, made from vactrols, which I built onto a buggy (malformed) version of my oscilloscope module panel.
Next is my LittleBits Adapter, which lets me plug in the magnet-based circuit building toy modules including those from the Korg collab.
On the second row, we start with the Behringer Model 150, another Roland 100 series clone; this one is noise, a S&H, a ring mod (actually a chip based four quadrant multiplier), and an LFO.
Next looks like another Passive Multiples and Friends, but this one is my Simple Cascading Fixed Amplifier, a set of four fixed amplifiers set up to do x2, x10, or x20 without modifications and up to x400 with self-patching.
The next is a Passive Multiples and Friends, this one an OR Combiner meant to combine multiple gate or trigger signals.
Next is the Kassutronics VCO 3340, an analog VCO I built from the PCB/panel set — basically the CEM3340 chip broken out plus a sine wave output (though the chip is actually the AS3340 clone).
After that is the 3320-VCF by PM Foundations, a low-pass filter with voltage-controlled cutoff and resonance, again built from PCB/panel.
Then it's my first VoxMachina Sigma function/slew generator, followed by a dual attenuverter/mixer, followed by the second Sigma — all together basically a workalike of the Make Noise Maths. The Sigma is very versatile but mostly ends up used for envelopes and LFOs. I had the pcbs and panels fabricated from VoxMachina's uploaded Gerber files.
Next is another Passive Multiple.
The next is a Behringer Four Play, four VCAs that can be used separately or mixed together. It's a functional rip-off of, I believe, Intellijel's quad VCA design.
Next is my homemade ring modulator, a proper two-transformers-and-a-diode-ring unpowered design.
After that, built into another PMaF panel, are two copies of the IamO single-JFET VCA, followed by my version of David Haillant's Simple VCA.
And last in the center row is the Modular in a Week "A Simple Mixer, Right?" (ASMR). A basic five-channel mixer with plain and inverted outputs, I got this as a kit.
In the third row, we start with MiaW's POW, which has LEDs for each power rail, a USB power jack, an external Eurorack power breakout, and a switch that currently doesn't do anything. (I'm still debating whether I should add case lighting.)
Next is a very simple reverse-avalanche oscillator with (not particularly tracking) voltage control, built from LMNC schematics.
Next is the Behringer Brains, their adaptation of the MI Plaits; it's a tremendously versatile voice that's way too tempting to leave on speech synthesis mode.
After that is another Simple Cascading Fixed Amplifier. I think this one uses inverting amplifiers and the other uses non inverting ones?
Next is the Toy Drum — I tore apart one of those electronic drum kits with the roll-up rubber pads and wired up inputs to four of the triggers, giving me a cheap but cheerful kick, snare, hat, and cymbal set.
Next is the Harald Bluetooth Receiver, the module out of a DIY Bluetooth speaker; it'll play stuff off a paired phone, or read files from a microSD card or USB stick.
Next is the DSPFX, a very cheap 100-in-1 audio effects board, which I often use to add end-of-chain reverb/delay and stereo separation. Built from MiaW design, though I had the panel fabricated.
The final PMaF is wired in passive mixer mode; it usually combines the ASMR mixer's output with the stereo output from the DSPFX, the two channels feeding the Phonic, my custom headphones output device (based on the circuit from the Befaco Out).
That's a total of 6 purchased modules, 2 kit builds, 3 PCB/panel builds, 5 PMaF panel builds, 2 fabs from Gerbers, and 13 modules of assorted more custom building, all in a homemade case. Not too shabby, I guess.

[ teasing ] a light brushing of lips against a partner's skin without fully kissing || @softersinned
she has him in her grasp, though percy hardly wanted to be any other way. astoria had, of course, warned him about how it would feel when she turned him. how agonizing it would be when they were apart in any capacity. the fear, the desire, the rage, the love. percy had thought he knew, percy had been sure that he was prepared but this was agony.
her hand was at his jaw, keeping him steady as he could be. steady was a fleeting feeling, one that was quickly swept up in a feral wave of desire. though there is no space between them, it is too much space & it makes his mind race in every direction as to how to rectify that.
it sets the hairs on his arms on end. he focuses on lovely, red lips only half-hearing the words that come out of them. ( focus, sweet thing. focus. ) whatever she is saying barely breaks through the obsessive haze he's fighting desperately. he can feel her words on his skin. when she leans up towards his neck, a sincere whine rises in his throat. he wants her to press her lips to him, he wants her to sink her teeth into him. anything that will link them.
" You are a wicked thing, " percy breathes, consumed. he's sure that if his heart was still beating, it would be at her will. if his breath still came, it would be for her. she could ask him to do anything in this moment & he would thank her for the opportunity. but she gifts her lips against his neck. he whines again, louder this time.
his eyes dart from her red hair then to the room around them. upon realizing he cannot bear to look away from her, he rectifies his mistake quickly. he puts his hands on her waist in an incredible display of self-control. he wasn't sure if he wanted her to tear him to shreds or if he wanted to kiss her.
"kiss me. bite me. i don't care what, " he feels hysterical, though his voice is closer to a whisper. he was vulnerable, hungry, hers. he needs to be closer, he needs to be one. ( even with her lips at his throat, they are too far apart ) so he pushes the next words through his teeth with such desperation he cannot help but feel real, " please. astoria, have mercy. "

Rectify | Bucky Barnes
Tumblr media
Part 10/37 | Part Nine, Part Eleven
Summary: I've lived every day for the past five years looking over my shoulder. I knew they'd come for me, it was inevitable. I was foolish to think I could outrun my past. It's followed me everywhere I go, lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Never would I have anticipated that the shadows would lead me to the light.
Bucky Barnes x OC
Series Warnings: Discussion of human trafficking, alcohol consumption, graphic depictions of violence, sexual content, discussion of suicidal thoughts.
a/n: Hi everyone, thank you for checking this out, I appreciate any and all support! This series is also posted on Ao3 and Wattpad if you prefer those formats/platforms! This is a completed series, and it's going to take some time for me to transfer it to Tumblr, so please bear with me!
"When I had to create the programming for your mind I knew that I had created something in which there was a possibility you could pose a threat to the wrong people. In order to prevent the wrong people from being targeted and retain complete control if necessary, I implemented a failsafe."
I silently watch from the old green and white checkered couch as Bucky begins looking around the room. I decided that after a few hours of humming and massaging his head that giving him some space would be the best option since I don't want to overwhelm him with stimulus. He's finally starting to come out of the fog and I'm not sure how it's going to affect him. I'm hoping for the best but unfortunately expecting the worst.
He looks dazed and confused as he takes in his new surroundings. His head turns in my direction and he stares at me for a few moments and looks as if he's trying to put some pieces together.
"Adalyn?" He asks and I nod my head, feeling my stomach drop. I fear that what Pierce did caused some regression and damage to Bucky's progress. I stand from my spot on the couch and crouch in front of Bucky.
"I'm here to help you, Bucky. Can you tell me what you remember?" I ask in a soft voice, looking up at him.
"I was in your room and then this alarm started going off. Three men walked in and then one of them started saying the words. I don't know how I got here." He makes eye contact with me and I nod. Maybe since the process wasn't complete his memory wasn't damaged.
"When he started saying the words what happened?" Curiosity takes over me. I want to know how his mind was effected by only half of the process being done.
"It was just like every time they've been said. I felt myself start to lose control." He briefly explains with sadness in his eyes. I stand from my crouching position and sigh,
"Do you still remember everything?" He shifts in the chair and nods his head. I decide to not question him any further, knowing we've both been through a lot today.
"Steve took us both to this safe house, we're supposed to stay here until he comes back for us. I think the best thing we can do is just take it easy, I don't want you to get overwhelmed or stressed out." I explain to him and he nods shortly. He gets out of the chair and walks over to the monitors. I watch as he looks between the screens. There's nothing there but trees.
I feel a wave of exhaustion come over me as the events of the day catch up. I sit back on the couch and try to make myself comfortable which I quickly realize isn't going to be possible. I shift around until I find a tolerable position.
"The bedroom is the first door on the left, the bathroom is the one on the right." I tell Bucky as he turns to me.
"Well, you can take the bedroom, and I'll take the couch." He tries to be chivalrous. I shake my head,
"No it's okay Bucky, I'd rather you take the bedroom." I say, knowing that his comfort and ability to relax after today is far more important than my comfort.
He decides to drop the argument and look around the bunker some more. I close my eyes, the bright fluorescent lights are too harsh for me to be able to fall asleep, so I listen as Bucky opens the doors to the adjoining rooms. I hear his boots come around to the couch and he moves my legs as he sits down. He holds my legs in his lap, the coolness from the metal sending a shiver up my body.
I open my eyes, squinting at the brightness. Bucky looks like he's debating on saying something, slightly opening and closing his mouth a few times.
"What's up?" I ask hoping to prompt him to say whatever was on his mind.
"What exactly happened in your room? I can't remember anything after he said the second word." His voice softens at the end and I can tell he's trying his hardest to recall the events. I move around so that I can see him fully.
"Well, when the alarms started I went back to my room. There were three men there, one of them an old Hydra associate who contracted the Winter Soldier back in 2005. The two others put you in electric handcuffs while Pierce read the words. I hit the two men restraining you with a lamp and ended up putting Pierce in a chokehold until he fell unconscious. Steve and I helped you get to the plane, which we took here." I summarize the events for him. He sits silently for a few moments, his fingers tapping on my shins.
"All I could remember when he started saying the words were the faces of people I killed." He looks to me with pain and sadness in his eyes. I sit up and move closer to him, putting a hand on his shoulder in hopes to comfort him.
"You didn't kill those people, the Winter Soldier did. The Winter Soldier is dead." It pains me to know that while he was in his trance he had to endure the memories of what he was forced to do.
"The Winter Soldier isn't dead, if Pierce would have said the last few words we both know what would've happened. I could have hurt you." He says, voice getting louder as he processes what almost happened.
"Bucky, you wouldn't have hurt me. I promise you that."
"You can't promise that." His voice is quiet once more and I debate telling him about the failsafe I created. I bite the skin on my lip as I weigh the pros and cons, and decide that being truthful is the best option.
"When I had to create the programming for your mind I knew that I had created something in which there was a possibility you could pose a threat to the wrong people. In order to prevent the wrong people from being targeted and retain complete control if necessary, I implemented a failsafe." Bucky looks at me, jaw set tightly.
"There is one word that has the ability to completely shut down the Soldier. Think of it as a factory reset. I'm the only one on this planet that knows the word, there is no record of it anywhere. Not even in the book. This is how I can promise you that you won't hurt me. But it'll never have to be used because I will die before I let anyone complete the process." I point to the book I had put on top of the bookshelf earlier and he stares at it for a few moments, I watch his unreadable expression.
"I'm not worth dying over, Adalyn." He makes no comment about the book. We make eye contact with one another, the atmosphere of the room becoming tense and emotionally charged.
"You told me I wasn't to blame for the things Hydra made me do so you're not to blame for the things they made you do. You are worth dying for in my eyes, it's the very least I owe you." I retain eye contact with him.
"You don't owe me a single thing. You're the reason I'm even able to remember." He says and I shake my head,
"Bucky, that's been all you. You've been the one to remember everything." I really haven't done anything except try to help him through some of the tough emotions and make sure he's stable.
"No, you were tasked to make me a blank slate but you decided to keep me. You designed the stuff in my head so that I wouldn't be completely lost. Adalyn this is possible because of you." He says and I feel tears well in my eyes. His words are sweet, and I am undeserving of his compassion.
I remember the moment I decided to disobey my father's orders and keep Bucky, though I buried him deep down within his own brain. I look down at my lap and stay silent, not knowing what else I can say. Bucky reaches his hand over and uses his index finger to tilt my chin up so that I'm looking at him again.
"I will never be able to tell you how grateful I am for you. You were the only one that ever treated me like a human, not a weapon." He says, taking his finger away.
Tears slowly drip onto my face, one by one. In a moment of mixed emotions, I put my arms around each side of Bucky's neck and pull him in for a hug. I let the tears fall onto his shirt and hold him tightly. I feel his arms wrap around my waist and return the hug.
The bruise on my stomach aches, but I ignore the dull pain. We stay like this for moments on end, both of us needing the comfort. Slowly, I pull away from the hug and place my hand on the base of his jaw, letting my thumb slowly and softly brush the warm skin of his cheek.
"You used to brush my hair and hum songs before I went back to cryo. Before you shut the door you always kissed my cheek." He says, and I remember the routine we had back when I was his handler. It's been so long since we were in that routine, it's bittersweet to think of it now.
"I always hoped it gave you some comfort." I whisper, taking my hand back from his face. He nods his head and breaks eye contact from me.
I pick the skin around my nails as we sit on the couch, appreciating each other's company. My eyes begin feeling like they're being weighed down by anchors, and I yawn quietly. I adjust myself so that I can lean my head on the side of the couch, and feel myself slowly drift asleep.
I wake up and find myself surrounded by a fluffy comforter. I don't think I fell asleep here. I get out of the bed and make my way out of the room and to the main area of the bunker. The room is dark and I see Bucky standing by the monitors, watching them with his arms crossed. I make my way over to him and stand by his side. He looks down at me with a small smile on his face.
"Care to explain why I woke up in the bedroom and not the couch?" I ask quietly, still trying to wake up fully.
"I told you I would take the couch. Plus you didn't look very comfortable." He answers turning his attention back to the screens. I decide not to argue with him anymore, it wasn't going to go anywhere and it's too early. He will be taking the bedroom tonight and I won't take no for an answer. I walk over to the few cabinets lining the wall opposite of the monitors and look to see what the options are. I'm hoping I find a coffee pot in here somewhere.
Inside the cabinets are scattered boxes of crackers, jars of peanut butter, pasta, marinara sauce, canned tuna, and rice. This is more than I expected, but I know it won't last us more than a week or so. I check the refrigerator and see that there's a container.
I grab the container and open the lid. The smell of putrid, rotten food hits my nose and I nearly gag. Bucky turns to see what's happening as I put the lid back on the container. He laughs when he realizes what happened and I roll my eyes at him. However, I am glad to hear his laughter fill the air but I wish it was under different circumstances.
I grab the container again and hold it out in front of me. With a smirk, I run towards Bucky who immediately starts heading the other way to put space between us. We stand on either end of the couch,
"Don't do it." He says like a father scolding his child. I nod my head and peel back the lid just a touch.
"I'm gonna do it." I say and start towards him again. We run around the couch like we're children until I jump over the back and stop him in his tracks, which hurts my stomach a little bit but the pain is totally worth it. To his dismay, I put the container under his nose causing him to gag. It's my turn to laugh at him this time. He grabs the container out of my hand and secures the lid back on it before he slides it across the floor by the stairs.
"You're gonna pay for that one." He says and flings me over his shoulder with ease. He playfully drops me on the couch and starts tickling me, to which I squirm around trying to escape. I feel tears of laughter form in my eyes as I continue trying to get away from him.
"Buck stop." I say through my laughter but he ignores my pleas. I feel the bruise on my stomach start to hurt again.
"Nope, you don't just get to do that and expect to get away with it. Your actions have consequences." He says, fingers going up the sides of my torso.
I kick my legs and end up hitting one of his, knocking him off balance. He falls onto me slightly, but catches himself. I jump back a little as I see how close our faces are to one another. I see his bright blue eyes inches from mine, the dark stubble on his jaw dangerously close to brushing my face. We hold the eye contact for a few moments before he gets up and clears his throat.
"So I take it there's not a lot to work with in here?" He asks and walks to re-check the cabinets I just went through. I feel my cheeks grow hot and am grateful that the overhead light hasn't been turned on yet.

Bridging Two Worlds of Power: A Human‑Centered Deep Dive into the AC-DC Rectifier
Walk into any modern factory, data center, or hospital and you’ll find a silent choreography taking place behind the walls. Alternating current (AC) from the grid pulses at 50 or 60 hertz, while sensitive electronics, motor drives, battery banks, and medical devices sip direct current (DC) with laser‑like precision. Linking these two electrical universes is the unassuming yet indispensable AC-DC Rectifier.
Most people never see it. Fewer still give it a second thought. But every smartphone charge, every MRI scan, and every impeccably timed robot arm owes its reliability to this device. Let’s shine a light on the rectifier’s story—equal parts physics, engineering craft, and human impact—and discover why perfecting it matters more than ever.
1 | The Rectifier’s Reason for Being
The utility grid delivers AC because it travels long distances efficiently and is easily transformed to higher or lower voltages. Electronics, however, crave DC: a one‑way stream of electrons that won’t flip polarity dozens of times per second. Converting AC into DC used to be a messy affair of rotary converters and mercury‑arc tubes. Modern solutions rely on power semiconductors—diodes, thyristors, and insulated‑gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs)—arranged in clever topologies that “rectify” AC waves into smooth DC rails.
At first glance, that seems straightforward: block current in one direction, allow it in the other. Yet achieving low ripple, high power factor, minimal electromagnetic interference, and bulletproof reliability under harsh conditions is anything but simple. It’s equal parts art and advanced materials science.
2 | A Day in the Life: Raj’s Unexpected Victory
Picture Raj, a 38‑year‑old maintenance engineer at a bustling metro‑rail depot in Mumbai. Every night, 50 train cars roll in for inspection, and each must fully recharge its traction batteries before dawn. Years ago, Raj’s team relied on bulky silicon‑controlled‑rectifier (SCR) chargers. They ran hot, wasted energy, and thumped the grid with harmonics. When heat waves hit, the chargers’ fans worked overtime—sometimes failing, sometimes igniting dust bunnies.
Last year, the depot upgraded to a bank of high‑frequency switch‑mode units featuring an advanced AC-DC Rectifier. Overnight, efficiency jumped from 88 % to 96 %, charger cabinets shrank by half, and the harmonic filter room was repurposed as a parts warehouse. Raj’s life changed too: no more 3 a.m. emergency calls about blown fuses or scorched busbars. He even has time to mentor apprentices in predictive maintenance.
Human stories like Raj’s are why rectifier design matters. Lower power loss reduces energy bills and CO₂ emissions; greater reliability fosters safer workplaces and better work–life balance.
3 | Breaking Down the Technology
a. Topologies That Tame the Wave
Six‑Pulse Diode Bridge Simple, rugged, cheap. Generates high ripple and poor power factor—acceptable for motors, less so for precision electronics.
SCR/Thyristor‑Controlled Bridge Phase‑controlled. Allows adjustable DC voltage but injects significant harmonics and flicker.
Active Front‑End (IGBT‑based PWM) The modern workhorse. Uses pulse‑width modulation at tens of kHz, yielding near‑unity power factor, sinusoidal input current, and programmable output.
b. Key Performance Metrics
Efficiency (η): Fraction of AC input power that emerges as usable DC. Every 1 % lost becomes heat to manage.
Total Harmonic Distortion (THDi): Lower is kinder to the grid and upstream transformers.
Power Factor (PF): Closer to 1 means less reactive power and smaller conductor sizes.
Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF): Drives lifecycle economics—especially critical in telecom and healthcare.
Modern digital controllers co‑opt fast microprocessors, using space‑vector modulation and soft‑switching to squeeze out extra efficiency while shrinking magnetics and capacitors. The result: kilowatts of perfectly regulated DC in a chassis the size of a briefcase.
4 | Sustainability—The Hidden Bonus
The energy world is racing toward decarbonization. A high‑performance AC-DC Rectifier quietly accelerates that shift in three ways:
Cutting Losses at Scale A single 1 MW rectifier improving from 90 % to 96 % efficiency saves roughly 52 MWh per year—enough to power 150 Indian homes. Multiply by thousands of installations, and gigawatt‑hours appear.
Enabling Renewables Solar microgrids and wind farms use bidirectional rectifiers (a.k.a. converters) to tie storage batteries into the AC network. Precise control keeps frequency stable even when clouds or gusts play havoc.
Electrifying Heavy Industry Aluminum smelters, electro‑chlorination, and hydrogen electrolysers depend on massive DC currents. Cleaner, smoother DC means longer electrode life and fewer chemical by‑products.
5 | Challenges & Frontiers
Wide‑Bandgap Semiconductors Silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) devices switch faster with lower losses, but they’re costly and require novel gate drivers and packaging.
Thermal Management As power density climbs, getting heat out is paramount. Designers experiment with vapor‑chamber heat sinks, cold plates, and even two‑phase immersion cooling.
Cybersecurity Smart rectifiers connect to SCADA and cloud dashboards. Protecting that digital doorway from malware is now as critical as guarding against voltage spikes.
6 | Future Vision: DC Microgrids and Beyond
Some visionaries propose returning to an Edison‑style DC distribution—at least within factories, campuses, or ships. LEDs, data servers, EV chargers, and variable‑speed drives already run on DC internally; avoiding double conversion could save 5–10 % system energy. Centralized solid‑state AC-DC Rectifier stations would feed 380 V DC buses, with point‑of‑use converters providing final voltage regulation. Pilot projects in Japan and Europe show promising reductions in both copper usage and downtime.
Add renewables, storage, and vehicle‑to‑grid interfaces, and you get a resilient, modular, low‑carbon energy ecosystem—all orchestrated by that seemingly humble bridge between waveforms.
Closing Reflection
The next time your phone charges silently, a PET scanner whirs to life, or an e‑bus glides away from its depot, remember the invisible bridge making it possible. The AC-DC Rectifier may never star in glossy ads, but its quiet efficiency and rock‑solid dependability anchor the electrified world we inhabit—and the greener one we aspire to build.

Staffing Shortage: Clinical Management Issue The United Kingdom is facing a serious nursing shortage that seems destined to get much worse before it gets better (Rothcock, 2000). Clinical managers are finding it increasingly difficult to find qualified, experienced nurses and much interest is being given as to how to hire and retain nurses for hospital facilities. It is important to understand why a nursing shortage exists. The nursing shortage is basically a product of supply and demand (Rothcock, 2000). The majority of nurses today are over the age of 30. The average practicing nurse is in his or her mid-40s. These nurses will begin to reach retirement age (65) around 2010, leading the nursing retirement wave, and half of the nurse workforce will be eligible to retire over the next two to three decades. In addition, numbers show that nursing school enrollments have been dropping. In a nutshell, this means that the supply of nurses remains low while demand remains high. In order to determine how to rectify this clinical management issue, it is important to figure out what nurses want and how to make them feel rewarded, needed, and satisfied in their positions (Rothcock, 2000). Novice nurses must feel that they can really make a difference to their patients and maintain control over their personal lives. With those goals in mind, clinical manager can use various strategies to recruit and retain nurses. The escalating crisis in the recruitment of nurses in the United Kingdom threatens to undermine doctors' ability to deliver high standards of clinical care on hospital wards, reported the BMA after a survey of nurses confirmed the shortage of nurses. Dr Peter Hawker, chairman of the BMA's Central Consultants and Specialists Committee, argued that unless the government and clinical manager made substantial efforts to combat the current nursing recruitment crisis, standards of care on hospital wards would dramatically decline. "We are able to do more complex procedures with collaboration between highly skilled nurses and doctors. If one part of the team is weak because of numbers, then the whole team is weak. You can have the brightest and keenest doctors in the world, but you are wasting your time if you haven't got skilled nursing backup," said Hawker. Research suggests that the current nursing shortage is the product of numerous trends including (Gerson and Oliver, 2004): steep population growth in several areas; a diminishing pipeline of new nursing students; a decline in nurses' earnings relative to other career options; an aging nursing workforce; low job satisfaction; poor working condition; and an aging population that requires health care services. These issues are increasing as the majority of nurses are retiring and job opportunities within health care are growing (Gerson and Oliver, 2004). Typical solutions to address past nursing shortages include wage increases and recruiting nurses from other countries, including Canada, English-speaking Caribbean and African countries, India and the Philippines. Due to the complex causes of the current shortage, however, experts note that these short-term solutions will have little impact. In addition to attracting new nurses, it is important to retain existing ones and convincing those who have left nursing careers to reenter the workforce (Gerson and Oliver, 2004). In terms of clinical management, improving workplace conditions and improving the education and professional development of nurses are primary retention strategies. High levels of job dissatisfaction in relation to scheduling, unrealistic workloads, mandatory overtime, and management's lack of responsiveness to nurses' concerns are the cause of high turnover and early retirement among nurses. Clinical managers should provide incentives for nurses to stay (Rothcock, 2000). The most effective strategy for battling the nursing shortage is keeping nurses satisfied. They should have as many reasons as possible to stay and as few reasons as possible to leave. According to a small study in the May issue of Nursing Management, the top five reasons nurses stay in their positions are (Rothcock, 2000): co-worker communication and support; job satisfaction; schedule and shift satisfaction; opportunities for diverse clinical experiences and challenges; and salary. The reasons nurses leave include (Rothcock, 2000): low salary; poor benefits; inadequate recognition, respect, or input into practice; schedule and shift dissatisfaction; and other career opportunities. If a clinical setting offers high job satisfaction, if managers encourage and value nurses' suggestions and implement them whenever possible, if the culture is warm and employees are encouraged to grow, nurses will be more likely to stay (Rothcock, 2000). Strategies to combat the UK nursing shortage do not revolve entirely around attracting and training more nurses, says Chris Mullen, Project Director for the Greater Manchester Workforce Confederation (Mullen, 2003). The approach is broader and more inclusive. It focuses instead on re-focusing the skills of health care professionals on the needs of the service rather than the interests of individual professions. The Greater Manchester Workforce Confederation has developed an innovative approach to attracting more nurses into the service and into new ways of working, in an effort to resolve this staffing crisis. According to Mullen, the workforce shortage in the NHS is the result of a combination of factors, including decreases in training places in the 1980s and 1990s, poor workforce planning, an aging workforce, the requirements of the European Working Time Directives and changes to local population profiles (Mullen, 2003). "Studies by the RCN have also found that nurses are concerned about increasing workloads, high vacancy levels, lack of empowerment and dissatisfaction with pay. Lack of support for caring responsibilities, bullying and violence at work have also been cited." In addition, clinical managers should recruit only the best When employee turnover is experienced, many managers make the mistake of hiring a "warm body" to fill positions, not realizing how important it is to hire the most talented, most qualified nurses possible. They will ultimately contribute more to the organization (Rothcock, 2000). To find nurses with these capabilities, the following suggestions can be helpful (Rothcock, 2000): Do not insist on one or two years of industry experience. Instead, focus on recruiting the best and brightest person you can find, regardless of his or her experience level. Invite nursing students for a clinical rotation. Offer growth opportunities by developing a clinical career ladder. Half of all nurses consider leaving their jobs due to poor pay, one survey suggests (BBC News, 2002). The findings published by the trade union reveal that one-fourth of all nurses need a second job to help them make ends meet. In addition, many nurses suggested the pressure of working in the NHS was having a damaging effect on their health and personal relationships. Pete Low, Unison's head of nursing, said the findings showed that UK nurses are under pressure (BBC News, 2002). "Our survey shows that long hours and increasing workloads are clearly taking their toll on nurses, and sadly this will have a knock-on effect on patient care. We cannot rely on overseas nurses to keep plugging the gaps, when there is a world-wide shortage of trained staff." Low advises that a significant pay increase is necessary to stop many nurses from leaving the NHS (BBC News, 2002). "The Pay Review Body must act now to stop nurses simply slipping away. We cannot afford to lose more trained nurses through poor pay and unrealistic workloads. With over 40% of nurses due to retire in the next 10 years, there is no time to lose." Other changes, such as introducing innovative family friendly working practices, could also have a major impact on improving the existing situation (BBC News, 2002). "It is disappointing that so little seems to be happening to implement family friendly policies throughout the NHS." Said Low. "It is clear that many nurses work for agencies because they can choose when they work and what hours they work. This is not surprising when you consider that the vast majority of nurses are women and 73% say their working hours conflict with family commitments. A more flexible approach would enable them to continue working for the NHS and in addition would attract more women back into nursing." Karen Parsley, director of nursing at Brighton Health Care Trust, says that the need to find nurses to cover shifts is one detrimental result of the national shortages of permanent nurses (BBC News, 2001). Brighton Health Care NHS Trust has between 7-800 beds, including a children's hospital and a cardiac unit. The organization is constantly looking at new ways of recruiting and retaining more staff. "We've done things like trying to get people who are out of nursing practice back in, by getting out to supermarkets and holding roadshows." Said Parsley. Nurses can also access term-time contracts, do job shares, and work more flexibly than in the past. Longer-term measures include supporting student nurses and offering return to practice courses. In conclusion. addressing the nursing shortage demands public and private efforts aimed at recruitment and retention of nurses (Gerson and Oliver, 2004). It is crucial to the future of the United Kingdom to attract new entrants into the nursing profession. Possible incentives include wage increases and international recruitment, as well as improving financial aid in the form of scholarships and loans, and targeting underrepresented groups, such as males and minorities. In addition, there should be a slew of advertising campaigns and promotions to advance messages about the rewards of a nursing career, such as the United States' $20 million "Campaign for Nursing's Future" recently launched by Johnson & Johnson. The Role of Rectifiers in Frequency Converters
Rectifiers are electronic devices that convert AC into DC by allowing current to flow in only one direction. In frequency converters, rectifiers are used to convert the incoming AC power into DC power, which is then used to drive the inverter stage. The inverter, in turn, converts the DC power back to AC at the desired frequency.
Types of Rectifiers
There are several types of rectifiers used in frequency converters, including:
Single-phase half-wave rectifiers: These rectifiers use a single diode to convert only one half of the AC waveform into DC.
Single-phase full-wave rectifiers: These rectifiers use two diodes to convert both halves of the AC waveform into DC.
Three-phase rectifiers: These rectifiers use three sets of diodes to convert three-phase AC power into DC.
Impact on Energy Efficiency
Rectifiers play a significant role in the overall efficiency of frequency converters. Efficient rectifiers can help reduce power losses and improve the overall performance of the converter. By using advanced rectifiers with low conduction and switching losses, manufacturers can enhance the efficiency of their frequency converters, leading to lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact.
Applications of Frequency Converters
Frequency converters find applications in a wide range of industries, including:
Renewable energy systems: Frequency converters are used to convert the variable frequency output of renewable energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines into a stable frequency that can be fed into the grid.
Industrial processes: Frequency converters are used to control the speed of motors in various industrial processes, allowing for precise control and energy savings.
Electric vehicle charging stations: Frequency converters are used to convert the AC power from the grid into the DC power needed to charge electric vehicles.

He lets out a pained grunt as Leon hoists him up, his back and legs protesting against the sudden movement, strength completely drained from every part of him. Even his mind feels hazy, still racing with images he isn't entirely sure were conjured up by his own thoughts. He's fighting nausea when he is lowered to the bed, his own face just as pale as Leon's. For a moment, he even fights against Leon pulling away from him, the need to keep as much of his skin against his own outweighing any rational thought. It's fortunate that Leon keeps a hold of his hand after they manage to prop Sasha up on the bed, otherwise he isn't sure what he'd done to rectify it.
His chest heaves with a panic that feels not entirely his own, shallow bursts of air escape him as he tries to calm himself down. He clutches Leon's hand tightly as he grits his teeth through waves of self inflicted pain. It was foolish to drag himself here, he should have known better. But God, if there isn't also a small part of him that's ecstatic about having done so. If only because he proved to himself that he somehow still could. A breathless, pained exhale somewhere between a hysterical laugh and a disbelieving gasp makes it past his lips. He really did it, but shit, does it hurt now.
"I just need— a moment." Another pained rasp and then Sasha can finally feel the muscles in his back unwind, his legs tremble from exertion, but for once he can actually feel them, although he struggles to move them even so much as an inch now. The whole situation is utterly confusing, even unsettling, and it's only made worse by the fact he can't concentrate on anything other than pain for a long moment.
The only thing soothing the throbbing pain is Leon's hand in his own, his eyes finding his, gaze full of concern. Sasha's grip turns to something softer when the worst of the dull ache slowly begins to fade and he feels in control of his own body again. He realizes with mounting concern that Leon is trembling, too, worse than he is even. Sasha searches his face, then notices the goosebumps painting his skin. It is chilly in here, but the fact that Leon is also damningly pale speaks volumes about the true cause of the state he is in.
"I'm going to be fine, Leon." He whispers, addressing his friend's worry first. But he can see the furrow of disbelief between Leon's brows more clearly now, as well as the doubt in his blue eyes. Sasha gently tugs at Leon to hold their joined hands up to his chest, surprised when Leon's hand immediately turns in his grasp to lay flat against his sternum. Sasha's hand remains resting atop of it for a moment, but he can still feel the cold of Leon's fingers beneath his own, swears he can feel it bleed through the fabric covering his chest.
"How about you?" He asks then, voice still a bit strained, but oh so gentle as he props himself up a bit more to really look at Leon. The half shadows cast across his face paired with his bangs falling into it, too make it hard to gauge his expression fully.
Sasha reaches up with his free hand without thinking, brushing the soft strands of hair away to reveal more of Leon's face. "You're cold." He says, his words barely above a whisper as his fingertips brush against Leon's forehead. His hand moves along the side of his face then, cupping his cheek. Sasha's lips part to ask Leon to lay down, or to assure him again that Sasha would be fine, he doesn't need to worry. He looks up from where his eyes followed the motion of his hand, and finds Leon's gaze wavering when their eyes meet. It's then that Sasha really sees the repercussions of whatever dream had Leon in such distress, and frankly, the stunt Sasha pulled and waking him up so harshly must have only added to the shock, despite his best intentions. He hides it well, but Sasha can basically see Leon's pulse jump erratically as his body works to calm itself down, can just about feel the echo of his distress in the back of his own mind.
... However, that's an issue to be addressed when neither of them is on the brink of a panic attack.
"It's okay." He whispers when Leon's fingers curl into his shirt. Sasha feels the tremble more clearly as he holds Leon's hand in his own. He watches as Leon tips his head forward, his bangs falling back into his face and Sasha doesn't fight them back this time, no matter how much he feels he wants to. Instead, he withdraws his hand from Leon's face to shift it down to his shoulder, finding the skin there equally chilled. It's an easy decision then, to let go of Leon's hand and struggle himself back into a sitting position, pain be damned, so he can move his arms around Leon instead.
"I'm here."
Leon's touch on his arm has Sasha's gaze stray there to watch as his fingers curl gently around his wrist. Without thinking, he turns his hand over as Leon pulls away, causing their palms and fingertips to align for the briefest of moments. He thinks he feels Leon linger there, feels his own fingers curl to prolong the contact, but at this point, he doesn't trust his own senses anymore and whether or not his imagination is running away from him. He isn't sure why he would imagine such a thing in the first place, but then again, there isn't much that he is sure of anymore.
"I'll believe it when I see it." He teases, his eyes a little brighter when he looks back up. "But yes, it's time you get to enjoy that vacation of yours." Sasha sees Leon is smiling, too, although it doesn't quite reach his eyes right now. His expression shutters and Sasha parts his lips to say something, to go back and ask him to stay after all, but Leon steps away from the bed and towards the door before he can, and somehow it doesn't feel right to stop him now.
They've been together the entire day with little space for themselves, and while Sasha doesn't mind it at all, he keeps having to remind himself that Leon is different, or so it seems at least. He doesn't even fully turn back around to bid Sasha good night before he slips into the hallway. Just one last glance and a few words that settle heavy in his mind and then he's gone. Sasha just manages to nod at the offer, and soon after the door shuts behind Leon with an unsettling sense of finality and without Sasha having said another word.
Sasha looks at the closed door for a good while before he settles deeper into the sheets. He looks up at the ceiling and it takes him some time to shake the feeling that he has done something wrong, or that he has somehow missed something important. A hand comes up to scratch absentmindedly at the scar beneath his sternum and his mind wanders back to the moment in the bathroom, with Leon on his knees infront of him, lips parted and eyes so blue he felt like he could drown in them—
Sasha pulls himself away from that thought, throwing an arm over his eyes in embarrassment when his mind starts going places it absolutely shouldn't. He's altogether too worn out to make sense of the fact that what he's feeling is unnervingly close to attraction, but he doesn't have the strength to pretend that it isn't there either. It's too much. He can't can't handle yet another revelation about himself, can't handle adjusting to that as well on top of everything else. So, he does his best to ignore the flutter in his chest and the prickle of what can only be called arousal shivering down his spine.
It's not like it would go anywhere anyway. Confusion aside, even if anyone were interested in him, he doesn't even know if he could still— The hand resting against his scar twitches, then slowly moves down his abdomen, fingers brushing over the fabric of his shirt before they catch on the hemline of his boxers. Sasha tenses and draws his hand away again, immediately turning onto his side, hands now tucking beneath his pillow. He scowls at the light on the nightstand when he finally manages to settle comfortably again, his legs heavy and numb, shame coloring his cheeks, eyes stinging with regret.
He reaches for the lamp to turn it off and scrunches his eyes shut, determined to go to sleep and not spend another moment thinking. Unsurprisingly, sleep doesn't find him easily, no matter how weary he is. He tosses and turns best he can for a while, before he eventually slips under and is embraced by a mercifully dreamless sleep. Although, it might just be that he wasn't asleep long enough to dream.
He startles awake a few hours later, disoriented and tense. He can't pinpoint what it was that woke him up, but his heart is pounding, his breathing comes in short bursts. A sense of foreboding overcomes him, worry settles deep inside him, protectiveness he can't explain flares within.
Leon.
Leon needs him.
Sasha doesn't know how he knows this, nor has he time to consider that there is nothing he can do to help if there really was something wrong. He pulls himself up before he can think about it. The sense of urgency within him causing him to completely disregard the fact his back immediately begins to throb with pain. In fact, he only realizes what he's doing when he has already taken a few unsteady steps, legs trembling and weak the moment his feet hit the ground. He can't even see much in the dark, can barely make out the edges of the furniture around him by the sliver of moonlight falling in from the window.
Sasha stumbles and blindly reaches for something to keep him upright. He just happens to grasp tightly onto wooden footboard of the bed, fingers digging into the grained surface. His body fights to keep himself upright. His ears start ringing and his brows furrow against the pain as he grits his teeth. It's almost familiar, the sharp noise in his ears, the sharp trill of power in the back of his mind. The room brightens up before his eyes, although the edges of his vision seem tinted red. It's almost as if—
The sense of distress sharpens and Sasha can pinpoint it's origins like a bloodhound catching a scent. His muscles tense as he breathes through the sharp pain that spreads into every inch of his body as he forces himself to walk from the bed to the nearest wall, keeping himself on his feet by sheer stubbornness as his legs threaten to give out. He can't feel anything beyond the overwhelming ache of his muscles as he drags himself to the door. He grasps the doorhandle, uncoordinated, unable to make sense of the fact that he is walking. He snarls in frustration at his body's weakness, but his only priority is getting to Leon, even if he has to crawl there.
Leon's door is across the hall, close enough Sasha barely has to take four steps to open it. The door swings open with a push of his hand against it after pressing the handle and it's then that Sasha's strength threatens to leave him. He holds himself up by the doorframe, fingers holding on to the wood tightly enough it makes his knuckles go white. Cold sweat clings to his forehead, runs down his back. The room is dark, but even so he can hear the strained noises from Leon's sleeping form, can barely make him out in the dark. He's having a nightmare.
"Leon? Leon!"
The other's name is barely more than a breathless rasp at first, his voice strained from exertion and rough from sleep, but growing stronger with the next attempt. He sees— he feels Leon startle. But only when light suddenly floods the room and he's met with bright blue does the ringing in Sasha's ears fade. His eyes must be playing tricks on him, though, or maybe the lighting is what causes it, but he could swear that Leon's eyes flickered red for a moment as Sasha's gaze meets his.
But before long, the edges of his vision ease back from a red haze to normal, the bedside table lamp hurting his eyes for a moment ere they adjust. He swallows thickly. He's still half asleep, he's just seeing things that aren't there. "You—" He breathes heavily as he takes in Leon's wideyed expression. "I thought—" More harsh gasps. Sasha scrunches up his face. "It felt— It felt like you needed me."
But now the foolishness of his endeavor overcomes him, his legs finally decide to give out on him for good, and Sasha feels himself slip down the doorframe he's still clinging to with both hands to keep himself upright, muscles tense and aching. "Shit..."
