Hotch hesitated to acknowledge the fact that he found himself often gazing out of his office window, discreetly observing your arrival in the parking lot each morning. He attempted to justify this behavior by reasoning that, as the unit chief, it was within his responsibilities to monitor the welfare of his team.

He mentally recited the same mantra repeatedly as he moved towards the exit, an umbrella tapping persistently against his side. Hotch found himself calling out your name before he realized it, his hand shielding his face from the unrelenting raindrops as he took in your appearance.

"Stay there," he borderline commanded, moving towards you as you clung to the driver’s side door.

You looked as pretty as ever, with your hair swept back from your face and curls framing your doe eyes. It made you that much more alluring and, consequently, even more distracting.

When you first joined as his assistant, he discreetly suggested to whoever was in charge of the hires back then that he was less than pleased with the arrangement. He found it hard to focus, his eyes constantly drawn to you. He wanted to claim it was involuntary, but he knew there was intention behind his constant search for you.

"Well, hi there, boss man," you chirped, your disposition utterly unaffected by the water that had dampened your outfit. 

He considered himself a noble man, honorable even, or so he told himself as he resisted the urge to glance down at your blouse that was now nearly see-through.

He quickly unfurled the umbrella, taking the liberty of shielding your perfect face from the onslaught of raindrops. You smiled up at him in a way that was so carefree it made his heart clench in his chest.

He cleared his throat. “You’ll catch a cold if you stay out here.”

“Good thing you’re here to prevent that.”

Aaron’s face was now wet, rivulets of rain tracing paths from his hair to his chin. He struggled to prevent a smile at your words, tucking his chin into his chest to conceal it.

He let you take hold of his arm, your purse occasionally tapping into his leg as he closed your car door and started towards the entrance. You leaned in closer, earning a knowing look from him.

You smiled into your coffee, pink lipstick staining the travel cup. “What? I wasn’t all the way under the umbrella.”

He knew that was a lie because he wasn’t all the way under the umbrella, ensuring you were fully covered.

“I didn’t say a word.”

“Your eyes are very expressive, Mr.”

“Then you should know I’m thinking we need to get you inside and dry." He looked at you knowingly, his grip on the umbrella tightening as you both reached the entrance.

“Dry? Around you?” you questioned, smiling innocently towards Hotch as he closed the umbrella and opened the front door. “Wishful thinking, sir.”

“Do I need to remind you we’re at work?”

Hotch combed his semi-damp hair with his fingers, flicking some water in your direction. You squealed, hands flying to shield your face, a stream of giggles following. The smile on his face was now inevitable.

“Sorry, can’t help myself,” you managed to say through the laughter.

He kissed your cheek softly, then started to walk to his office. Glancing back, he adds, “You’ll be sorry when we get home.”

That shut you up.

Writing and drawing amputee characters: Not every amputee wears prosthetics (and that's ok)

Not every amputee wears prosthetics, and not doing so is not a sign that they've "given up".

It's a bit of a trope that I've noticed that when an amputee, leg amputees in particular, don't wear prosthetics in media its often used as a sign that they've given up hope/stopped trying/ are depressed etc. If/when they start feeling better, they'll start wearing their prosthetics again, usually accompanied by triumphant or inspiring music (if it's a movie). The most famous example of this is in Forest Gump, Where Dan spends most of the movie after loosing his legs wishing he'd died instead. He does eventually come around, and him finally moving from his wheelchair to prosthetics is meant to highlight this.

The thing is, it's not that it's unrealistic - in fact my last major mental health spiral was started because one of my prosthetics was being a shit and wouldn't go on properly, despite fitting perfectly at the prosthetist's the day before. I'm not going to use my legs when I'm not in a good headspace, but the problem is, this is the only time non-prosthetic using amputees ever get representation: to show how sad they are. Even if that's not what the creator/writer necessarily intended, audiences will often make that assumption on their own unless you're very careful and intentional about how you frame it, because it's what existing media has taught them to expect.

But there are lots of reasons why someone might not use prosthetics:

they might not need them: this is more common in arm amputees because of how difficult it can be to use arm prosthetic, especially above-elbow prosthetics. Most folks learn how to get on without them pretty well. In fact, most of the arm amputees I know don't have prosthetics, or only have them for specific tasks (e.g. I knew a girl who had a prosthetic hand made specifically for rowing, but that's all she used it for).

Other mobility aids just work better for them: for me, I'm faster, more manoeuvrable and can be out for longer when I'm in my wheelchair than I ever could on my prosthetics. Youtube/tik tok creator Josh Sundquist has said the same thing about his crutches, he just feels better using them than his prosthetic. This isn't the case for everyone of course, but it is for some of us. Especially people with above-knee prosthetics, in my experience.

Other disabilities make them harder to use: Some people are unable to use prosthetics due to other disabilities, or even other amputations. Yeah, as it turns out, a lot of prosthetics are only really designed for single-limb amputees. While they're usable for multi-limb amps, they're much harder to use or they might not be able to access every feature. For example, the prosthetic knee I have has the ability to monitor the walk cycle of the other leg and match it as close as possible - but that only works if you have a full leg on the other side. Likewise, my nan didn't like using her prosthetic, as she had limited movement in her shoulders that meant she physically couldn't move her arms in the right way to get her leg on without help.

Prosthetics are expensive in some parts of the world: not everyone can afford a prosthetic. My left prosthetic costs around $5,000 Australian dollars, but my right one (the above knee) cost $125,000AUD. It's the most expensive thing I own that I only got because my country pays for medical equipment for disabled folks. Some places subsidise the cost, but paying 10% of $125,000 is still $12,500. Then in some places, if you don't have insurance, you have to pay for that all by yourself. Even with insurance you still have to pay some of it depending on your cover. Arm prosthetics are even more expensive. Sure, both arms and legs do have cheaper options available, but they're often extremely difficult to use. You get what you pay for.

they aren't suitable for every type of environment: Prosthetics can be finicky and modern ones can be kind of sensitive to the elements. My home town was in a coastal lowland - this means lots of beaches and lots of swamp filled with salty/brackish water. The metals used in prosthetics don't hold up well in those conditions, and so they would rust quicker, I needed to clean them more, I needed to empty sand out of my foot ALL THE TIME (there always seemed to be more. It was like a bag of holding but it was just sand). Some prosthetics can't get wet at all. There were a few amputees who moved to the area when I was older who just didn't bother lol. It wasn't worth the extra effort needed for the maintenance.

People have allergies to the prosthetic material: This is less of a problem in the modern day, but some people are allergic to the materials their prosthetics are made from. You can usually find an alternative but depending on the type of allergy, some people are allergic to the replacements too.

Some people just don't like them.

There's nothing wrong with choosing to go without a prosthetic. There's nothing wrong with deciding they aren't for you. It doesn't make you a failure or sad or anything else. Using or not using prosthetics is a completely morally neutral thing.

Please, if you're writing amputees, consider if a prosthetic really is the best mobility aid for your character and consider having your characters go without, or at least mix it up a bit.

For example, Xari, one of the main characters in my comic, uses prosthetics unsupported and with crutches, and uses a wheelchair. They alternate between them throughout the story.

Hunter's Association: Departments, Sectors, and Sub-groups

The Hunter's Association is divided into multiple departments, sectors, and sub-groups. All such entities that have been mentioned in-game (thus far) are listed below.

Their responsibilities include gathering and analyzing data, detecting and identifying Protocores, and monitoring regional energy fluctuations.

This department responds to urgent Wanderer reports across Linkon City by dispatching hunters, deploying medical teams, raising hazard alarms, and monitoring real-time positioning. Their work area features a holographic control console in the center of the room that displays a 3D map of Linkon City. Blinking red dots represent high-level threats, blue dots represent hunters in the area, and yellow dots represent Wanderers. At the conclusion of each case they resolve, an incident repoer is submitted. This department's positions include multiple dispatchers, a surveillance officer, and a Captain (currently Captain Colin). They have a break room and their own cafeteria, a feature Alpha Team lacks.

Case Numbers: Case numbers follow the incremental naming standard "LK204×01101", "LK204×01102", "LK204×01103", etc.

Emergency Response Protocol: A high-level procedure triggered for threats only equivalent to five or more Wanderers. It requires the coordinated effort of at least five hunters.

The Medical Support Department, in partnership with the Logistics Department and Operations HQ, recently implemented an updated "Hunter Health Policy" which introduced three new regulations:

Monthly period leave for female hunters increased from 2 to 4 days per calendar month.

The Medical Support Department and Akso Hospital will offer specialized health consultations and support for menstruation-related diet, exercise, sleep, and mental well-being, helping them maintain a balanced lifestyle during their period.

Armament Tech is a specialized team dedicated to the development, optimization, and maintenance of Deepspace Hunter combat equipment. The Hunter's Association assigns an Armament Tech team to each squad. This team provides state-of-the-art technological support to hunters and enhances the combat capabilities and efficiency of the entire squad.

F1 and Biometrics

Biometric gloves came into play in F1 in 2018 to give medical teams immediate access to important information regarding driver conditions after an incident. It allows for vitals to be measured before, at the time of an incident and after the crash until they are rescued and more advanced monitoring is able to be applied. It is also a big help if a driver is involved in a crash that means they are not accessible straight away or cannot be visualized for monitoring so this allows teams to get immediate access to this information.

According to the FIA website, this was a difficulty by medical teams when Carlos Sainz crashed in the 2015 Russian GP where he hit the barrier head-on at 153km/h (roughly 95mph). The first row of the barrier was resting on top of him, so medical teams had to wait for this to be removed before they had access to him. Thankfully he wasn’t hurt during this crash, but medical teams didn’t know this initially as this technology wasn’t available and being used.

The sensors were basically made custom to F1 drivers. Regular sensors had not been fire tested and were not comfortable enough for the drivers to wear for long races. They use Bluetooth technology and can send data within a 500m and are powered by a small battery that drivers charge before races.

Drivers gloves have a 3mm sensor that is stitched into the palm of the fabric and monitors their vital signs during races. They measure pulse oximetry which measures the amount of oxygen being carried in the blood as well as drivers pulse rates. Obviously if a driver has an injury that is affecting their breathing, this will show in the saturations that would decline rapidly. Having this technology allows physiological readings and biometrics to be continuously monitored throughout the race from start to finish. Data from the sensor transmits to an iPhone app and gives medical crews remote and advance information on the driver’s condition. The small biometric readers are flexible and fire resistant up to 1,800 degrees Celsius (3,272 degrees Fahrenheit) for 22 seconds.

In the future there are even plans to implement sensors for respiratory rate and temperature to further monitor drivers which will not only enhance safety features but allow teams and drivers to monitor performance better.

OMP, an equipment supplier, has been developing wearable biometric monitoring systems since the introduction of the biometric sensors in 2019. An undershirt equipped with sensors and a measurement unit would transmit and record biometric data allowing for real-time monitoring of health through ECG and thoracic expansion. This would allow monitoring of drivers heart rhythms and breathing rate which would not only benefit medical teams in the case of an incident but also help identify stress, fatigue and any alteration in conditions. This would be useful considering the amount of stress drivers have been put through in the past in hot countries for example Saudi Arabia GP 2023 when many drivers retired, had to be taken to medical, threw up in their helmets or passed out after the race.

TV crews can also display biometric data during broadcasts to show the physical condition of a driver as they battle on track. However, there have been questions about the ethics and use of biometrics and why can’t we as an audience see drivers heart rates etc on screen if this data is being constantly collected. The FIA has strict guidelines about the use of raw biometric data. Section 2.4 of the FIA Guidelines for the Collection and Usage of Biometric Data in Motorsport, states that the use of biometric data can be used for more than just medical and performance monitoring and can be used for entertainment and marketing purposes but only if it is changed from raw data into a variable to protect the private health information of the driver. The FIA won’t allow the use of biometric data to be publicly available in the original form/ measurement unless the driver provides informed consent.

Essentially, driver onboard vitals are likely not to be available live due to strict laws on data protection and sharing health related information about drivers as it is protected health information. In the case of an accident or emergency, data is not allowed to be used even if the information is changed to protect the driver unless it is for medical and rescue use and post-accident information.

This also led me down a rabbit hole and found another study (it was anonymous but if you’re a sleuth you can probably take a guess at what F1 driver it was) where they monitored his heart rate during qualifying to see what his average was throughout the race to test the cardiovascular strain F1 drivers are put under!

Qwerty is an electric blue computer monitor with a black screen. Her facial features are a cyan color and her limbs are grey. She has a retractable tail with a blue computer mouse at the end of it. She wears a blue sleeveless vest over a white long sleeved undershirt as well as a cyan necktie. She also wears a black skirt with a blue line on it, as well as a pair of blue flats.

During blackouts, she emits a blue glow. When hit by a Twisted, a blue error screen with a white frowny face emoticon appears on her face. This changes depending on what skin she’s wearing.

Personality

Qwerty is a very intelligent toon who loves to learn about new things. They speak in a mostly formal or semi-formal manner, often using big words. Otherwise, she is usually a chipper and jovial Toon that’s polite and amicable towards others (even to Toons like Shrimpo and Luci).

Similar to Vee, Qwerty can be rather blunt and come off as insensitive, but she never means it maliciously. Qwerty is quite literal-minded and matter-of-fact, not seeming to understand sarcasm, figures of speech, or metaphors. Despite being insightful they can be rather oblivious, as they seem to take almost everything at face value, such as not being able to tell if someone is lying.

Twisted Qwerty is a large roaming Twisted, who, upon the failure of a skill check, causes a blackout that lasts for 7 seconds. Her detection range is very high due being airborne, her attention span is also above average because of this.

If the floor already is a blackout floor, then Twisted Qwerty will instead just rush over to the machine that the failed skilled check was done on, similar to Twisted Vee.

The sound of Twisted Qwerty’s footsteps are instead the sound of flapping wings, and they will make a glitchy computer error sound upon spotting a player. She also leaves a trail of ichor behind her.

Qwerty was one of if not the only Toon to be made years after the center opened and after the cartoon started airing. She was created in the fall of 1995.

When “asleep” (recharging) or staring off into space, her screen displays a random screensaver such as the 3D Maze or the Mystery one.

Qwerty is sadly banned from ever playing in Vee’s gameshow, due to her high intelligence as a computer. She does work behind the scenes of the gameshow however, doing all the tech stuff for it.

While they’re not biologically siblings, Qwerty views Vee as an older sister figure. Vee is implied to feel similarly.

Twisted Qwerty’s design is based on the Mannanangal from Filipino Folklore.

Just like with Vee, Qwerty will short circuit if she comes into contact with water, hence she can’t be close to Finn.

Michael Mayer will direct the flop-turned-cult-favorite musical from ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with a brand new book by Danny Strong.

The cast will be led by Tony winner Aaron Tveit as Freddie Trumper, Lea Michele as Florence Vassey, and Nicholas Christopher as Anatoly Sergievsky. The performance will see Michele originating a role on the Main Stem for the first time since 2006's Spring Awakening. Get a sneak peak of the Broadway favorites in the video above.

With music from ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and lyrics by Tim Rice, this first-ever revival will be refreshed with a brand new book by Emmy Award winner Danny Strong (Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 & 2), and a creative team featuring director Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening) and choreographer Lorin Latarro (Waitress). Brian Usifer will serve as music supervisor.

Based on an idea by Rice (and originally featuring a book by Richard Nelson), Chess tells the story of American and Russian chess champions playing a match against each other—and competing for the same woman—at the height of the Cold War.

Chess began as a concept album released in 1984, after Tim Rice had mulled over the idea of a musical about the Cuban Missile Crisis for nearly a decade with his frequent collaborator Andrew Lloyd Webber, never quite beginning the project. In the early 1980s, he approached Andersson and Ulvaeus, who had been itching to find creative projects outside of their hit pop music group ABBA. The concept album dominated the charts worldwide, reaching number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and earned global critical acclaim. Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson's duet "I Know Him So Well" even ranked number one on the U.K.'s singles charts for a month.

The album's popularity seemed to promise a successful theatrical adaption, but the original West End production opened in 1986 to mixed reviews. Elaine Paige, Tommy Körberg, and Murray Head, who all performed on the concept album, brought their roles to life onstage as part of the original London cast, with Siobhán McCarthy taking Barbara Dickson's place. Prolific director Michael Bennett was originally signed on to helm, but pulled out due to his declining health, and Cats director Trevor Nunn took over. Bennett's vision initially was to create a "multimedia" experience for audiences, with the theatre filled to the brim with television monitors, and the stage transformed into a tilted floor. The stage show's book expanded the original plot explored in the concept album, with the runtime peaking at three hours and 15 minutes long. London critics were admittedly dazzled by the score and scenic vision for the show, but nearly all expressed the book as being problematic to what would otherwise be a creative revelation.

The Broadway production—which starred David Carroll, Judy Kuhn, Philip Casnoff, and Marcia Mitzman—opened to an even more sour critical reception, with reviewers nevertheless praising the score and the individual performances. Closing after just 17 previews and 68 performances, it seemed Chess' chance for success had passed. But via the concept album and later cast recordings from various stage productions, Chess found a devoted audience in the years since its premiere. In addition to several tours and West End revivals, a 2008 London concert staging featuring Josh Groban, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, and Kerry Ellis was recorded and released both as an album and a concert film.

Rice has been teasing a revival being in the works for years, even announcing that a 2018 Kennedy Center staging would come to the Main Stem (this production was also directed by Mayer and featured Strong's revised book). Though the Broadway bow did not materialize that time around, the show was last seen in New York in a 2022 starry benefit concert for the Entertainment Community Fund, also using Strong's revised script and starring Darren Criss, Tony winner Lena Hall, Ramin Karimloo, and Solea Pfeiffer.

And the show's passionate fans are clearly eager for a Broadway return. The search phrase "Chess Revival" (prior to this article publishing and the news becoming public) turns up thousands of social media posts begging for a revival, with one fan writing that they will take a flight back to New York as soon as one is announced, and another taking that claim to the next level, joking that they will "literally move into the theatre for the entire run."

Chess will be presented by arrangement with Three Knights, the Shubert Organization and Robert Fox Ltd.

So... Mortefi and I actually meet under deeply unfortunate circumstances lmao, but let me preface this with some background on my insert;

Wuwa Auphie (I've yet to decide if I'm a resonator or not, but I'm leaning towards not being one) works for Baizhi as a data analyst :3 I spent most of my time as a student working with the overclocking phenomenon and how to accurately monitor a resonator's state and various methods to prevent them, but it's not something I pursued any further, perfectly happy to just have a regular job and not be a stressed as fuck researcher. And uh.. I meet Mortefi because during his early days at the Academy, there's an instance where he's just about to lose his shit and overclock. I happen to be nearby and am sort of pushed towards him to 'fix it' lmao xD He feels very embarrassed afterwards and brings me some of his homemade candy and leaves on my desk the day after! That turns into a back and forth where I bring baked goods and leave by his desk and he brings candy. Story

Character Details A female firefighter working at the Zoshigaya Fire Department. Although she looks a bit cold on the outside, she reveals strong emotions when faced with a fire.

Personal Data 1 On the way home, I helped prevent a "fire" with a woman who was passing by... Though it ended up being a false alarm, the woman, named Natsukawa, was indeed extremely sensitive to and obsessed with fire. After pretending to be her cousin to help her deal with inquiries from her fellow firefighter, I got to know this strange woman...

Personal Data 2 I met with Natsukawa again, who was still patrolling Zoshigaya even after getting off work. Natsukawa apologized again about the false alarm last time... Because there seem to have been a number of fires with an unknown cause in Zoshigaya recently, Natsukawa agreed to work with me to find the arsonist. Since I was willing to continue pretending to be her relative, Natsukawa told me that she lost her mother and younger brother to a fire when she was a child, and this is why she's extremely sensitive to the smell of smoke, and loses sight of herself whenever faced with a fire.

Personal Data 3 Natsukawa and I continued to investigate the fires in Zoshigaya. This was the seventh fire now. While investigating, we ran into Natsukawa's senior at the fire department. Because Natsukawa acted on her own, he warned her once again not to act recklessly like she usually does, with no regard for her own safety, if she encounters a fire. Afterward, Natsukawa and I agreed that if I want to patrol, I have to do it with her, and never go alone.

Personal Data 4 While on patrol, Natsukawa and I promptly extinguished a suspicious pile of burning magazines. Natsukawa once again was reminded of the fire in which her mother and brother died. The firefighters at that time gave priority to rescuing the young Natsukawa before the fire spread further- the trauma from this incident still affects her mental state, and she can't let it go.

Personal Data 5 Natsukawa suspected that a pedestrian we passed by while on patrol was the arsonist, but was distracted from the matter because she smelled smoke from a fire. In order to recall the appearance of the arsonist, she ordered all kinds of weird things from online shopping websites, and tried them with me... Finally, we found a clue in Natsukawa's firefighting activity log.

Personal Data 6 After several attempts, Natsukawa finally identified the name and address of the arsonist setting the fires in Zoshigaya. After a period of surveillance, we followed the culprit and stopped him just in time, before he could set another fire. We also took photographic evidence of his arson with our phones. We didn't expect that his motive was simply to relieve stress... In the end, we handed the arsonist over to the police. Natsukawa expressed her gratitude to me.

Personal Data 7 Since we caught the arsonist, Natsukawa and I have just been taking walks in Zoshigaya. We arrived at the house that caused that false alarm that first time- this time there was a real fire. Natsukawa became strange again, and rushed into the burning building alone... After the fire, Natsukawa got inexplicably angry when her senior firefighters praised her... After we parted, Ruferu pointed out that she's been acting oddly.

Personal Data 8 Natsukawa was finally willing to open up about why she rushes into fires. It turns out that deep in her heart, she'd never forgiven herself, and it was as if another her kept whispering in her ear... Because of her survivor's guilt, she kept running into the most dangerous fires, hoping that she could die while saving people... After, she hugged me and cried bitterly...

Personal Data 9 After dealing with her Shadow in Mementos, Natsukawa finally forgave herself. She admitted that she had been projecting her brother onto me, but really might have just been hoping that I'd forgive her on her brother's behalf... After we talked more, Natsukawa said that she'd move forward while holding her important memories of her mother and her brother in her heart, and also that she wanted to visit her father, who resigned from his own job as a firefighter after that fire.

Personal Data 10 When Natsukawa talked with her father, they found out they had both actually been burdened with guilt toward each other, and harbored great pain, since that day... After this conversation between father and daughter, they were finally able to support each other and move on as a normal family. Natsukawa plans to continue working as a firefighter in the future, but she won't rush in recklessly anymore. She wants to protect the area where I live in her own way.

As an ecologist, I'm really interested in the idea of "hostile landscaping". Just like hostile architecture seeks to displace, exclude, or police some groups by anti-homeless spikes, limited/no public seating or restrooms, fences, CCTV, etc- so hostile landscaping aims for the same goals by manipulation of vegetation and ecological features (often under the guise of conservation management).

In the last town I lived in, the town clear-cut a wide strip of land along the riverside. This was done in response to complaints about people camping there, to remove the shelter of shrubs and trees and so that police could drive by frequently to surveil without having to stop and get out of their cars. In official statements, however, the town said that it was for invasive plant species management. The riverbank was destabilized by the mowing and subsequent re-invasion and it has really worsened the town's already severe problems with climate-change induced floods and forced people into even worse living conditions. Similarly, in my new town, there was a small plot of shrubby woods. A family with kids was living there in tents. I had been foraging and managing invasive garlic mustard in that spot for a few years. Also, the best wild cherry tree in town grew there, and I was planning a seed collection project. But the utility company who owned the land didn't want the family living there, so they threw out the tents and belongings, whacked the entire plot down to the dirt and put up a bunch of cameras and no trespassing signs. They said it was to manage weedy, overgrown vegetation. Since then, all the native species are gone, including the cherry tree, and it's all grown back up as garlic mustard, tree-of-heaven, and bittersweet, much more difficult to manage than it was before. I don't know what became of the family who was living there. First and foremost, treating human beings this way is unacceptable, brutal violence, and it's connected violence against both people and against the ecosystems they inhabit. I've seen things like this play out again and again. Unhoused people living outside are often the best acquainted with urban greenspaces, and most affected by their management, but are not considered knowledge sources about these ecosystems. And people living in urban greenspaces often play stewardship roles in those ecosystems, such as managing invasive species, monitoring wildlife, and removing trash. Vegetation management acts as the public cover for policing, dehumanization, and violence. Herbicides which aren't approved for residential areas or use around children get applied to these lands because the residents have no legal status where they live. On the other side of the coin, plant species which are dangerous to live in close proximity to, like wild parsnip, have unrecorded human health impacts on unhoused people who live outdoors.

I've talked to colleagues about this who refuse to believe that urban land managers would do that kind of thing, even though I've seen it happen again and again myself. I've talked to land managers who are very straightforward about the reasoning behind these decisions. It's not only municipalities but conservation volunteer groups and NGOs as well. Yet this is basically entirely unaddressed by any conservation/ecology literature. And it's hard to document the phenomenon because land managers don't want to admit on the record that it's happening and it's difficult to map without placing vulnerable people at more risk.
