D-DAY

I barely slept last night. I was/ am so nervous.

It’s 6.30 am, my mom, my best friend and cousin S. and I leave the house. Off to the airport. I meet my dad over there and we go get some breakfast. What a waste of money, I can’t eat anything. Sorry mom.

30 minutes before I have to go through customs, my friends V. and C. join us. My stress level is over the top right now.

9 am. My airplane takes off at 10.30 so I have to go. We take some polaroid pictures and I hug everyone. I’m crying. What did you expect? I feel sad and scared but also relieved. Finally I am getting rid of all the stress. It’s an incredible weight off my shoulders.

I take my ticket and go through the first gates. As I go stand in line at the customs check, I can’t see my parents anymore. I wish I could really cry, out loud, lot of tears, ugly face, snorting and all. But I’m surrounded so I try to keep myself together. But not seeing my parents anymore breaks me inside.

And yet.. I don’t want to turn around. I don’t want to stay in Belgium. I know this a difficult moment, but I also know there is something great waiting for me.

Before I enter the airplane I get pulled aside for a random drug test. HA.

Then it’s Zaventem - New York - Tampa - Saint-Petersburg. The first flight is OK. On the second one I get nauseous, feeling very bad.

I arrive in my hotel at 8pm local time, so 2am in Belgium. When I enter my room, I notice 2 beds. I notice 1 bed being a mess. The room is freezing! “HELLOOOOO?!” I wonder where my roommate is...

I starting unpacking the necessary things when all of a sudden, the bed next to mine moves. A sleepy head greets me. M. from Madagascar. Good night. I’m feeling guilty for waking her. This was weird. And funny.

I remember I had to do 5 assignments for my training the next day. So I take my laptop with me in bed and start. Unfortunately jetlag hits me and I fall asleep. It’s 9pm.
