Thnks for the recs.
These are the ones I hav heard:baby don't stop, make a wish, perfume (godddd this is soty material,I am obsessed srsly, this song is the reason I am looking forward to stanning them, doyoungs voice does smth to me), sticker (i agree w/ u abt this one,it's just a vibe, the ones who get it get it),kick it(how could I not know this c'mon),broken melodies (also caught my attention),hello future, love Talk(oh godd i remember listening this song and I fell in love??? Also my first nct song prolly 😛),back2u, beatbox, baggy jeans (also a reason I wanna stan them, again dy's voice caught my attention real bad),and a few more actually
I was happy seeing familiar songs in recs.
And yes u are correct abt there experimental discography, I find there range very wide.
Lmao it got wayy longer than i intended.
-🦀
(i forgot to put the emoji in that ask lol)
Your welcome ✌️
Oh also welcome to the juiciest fandom and yeah PERFUME is THE SONG OF THE YEAR but people didn’t vote for it and it’s a crime…SM ent did the only best thing last year is to make a UNIT DJJ (like whenever I listen their songs I feel like descending from HEAVEN) Doyoung my man has an amazing and angelic voice but people should appreciate him more. Love Talk is itself a love 😇 ❤️ (I didn’t recommend you baggy jeans as a beginner coz I have a bad experience with someone who said NCT sucks after that bt I’m glad she’s not into this heaven she’s missing a lot HER LOSS)…anyways bt I made 3 boys NCT fans n they thank me everyday for it bt they love Taeyong 😒 most whyyyyy!?!?!?! lol
It’s really hard to make people understand their discography range but then some people asks me questions like: “why isn’t that member there in this song?” “Why don’t they make music all together?” “Why so many member?” “Why the rapper is singing?” Like wtf he can sing…wdym by (why)? But other questions I can understand it’s a hectic to manage with this group but if u get into it deeper then come on u r a part of Neo Family💚
You can talk to me in a longer parah to me I don’t mind😃

I SMELL COLE FICS
Do you think i could get a drabble? I dont care what or how you write, I will take anything.
Tumblr media
Hello hello hi!! I'll be honest, freedom with what to write can be incredibly nerve wrecking but i hope you enjoy this one! I struggled so much to decide on what exactly to write lmao,,,,
|| ᴅʀᴜᴍᴍᴇʀ ʙᴏʏ || ᴄᴏʟᴇ ʙʀᴏᴏᴋᴇꜱᴛᴏɴᴇ x ʀᴇᴀᴅᴇʀ ||
Your steps slow to a stop, looking up at the sign of the store you’re about to enter. You check your phone, comparing the name that your friend sent you.
Rockin’ Tunes
You shrug, accepting the name at face value before entering the store. The bell attached to the door jingles, attracting the attention of the only person inside.
You walk up to the store assistant who has his back turned to you, hesitant to disturb him when he’s restocking shelves.
“Excuse me…” You voice out shyly, only for your breath to hitch as soon as he turns around. Choppy ebony hair casts a faint shadow over his obsidian eyes, his sleeveless top showing off toned biceps. A thin chain decorates his neck, firm hands gripping a vinyl cover.
Yum.
You quickly snap out of your daze, almost drooling over the incredibly attractive boy in front of you. You blink a couple times, hand reaching up to subtly rub away any drool. The back of your hand brushes against bare skin. Good. There wasn’t any drool.
“Can I help you?” His brow is raised, waiting patiently for you to speak.
“Yeah, I came here to sign up for drum lessons. My friend Nya recommended this place, so I thought I’d check it out.” You try to lighten the atmosphere with a bright smile. A flicker of recognition crosses his face at the name you mention, his smile mirroring yours.
“You’re Nya’s friend? Nice to meet you. I’m Cole. If you’re interested in drum lessons, our only teacher is out of the country now, but I’d be happy to help.” He holds out his fist, and you grin, bumping it lightly with yours.
“I’m Y/n. That sounds good. Where do we start?”
Cole steps out from behind the counter, bicep brushing against your shoulder as he walks past you and towards the array of instruments in the back of the store. You gulp, following him.
Nya hadn’t told you that her friend was this attractive. You almost feel betrayed, looking down at your outfit and wishing you had dressed a little more nicely. He stops at a few drum sets that are a distance apart, and you eye the different types.
“So, do you know anything about drums?”
You pause, racking your brain for a good answer. “I know the basic boots-and-cats beatboxing.” You reply dumbly.
Oh my god.
Your cheeks burn, and you’re ready to hide in a corner from how his eyes shine in amusement, trying to force down a laugh.
“Okay, so you’re a basic beginner then.”
He sits at a drum set that looks nothing like the ones you see on TV. Everything is coloured black, cymbals made out of rubber. He grabs a pair of drumsticks that rest atop one of the drums in the set, giving it a twirl.
Suddenly, your face feels rather hot.
“So this is the first type of drum set beginners usually get. It’s an electronic drum kit, and it’s connected to a speaker and device that lets you change the sound to whatever you’d like. This is a snare, this is a kick drum, and this is a high hat. These are what you’ll be starting out with for a basic beat, or the ‘boots-and-cats’ beat you mentioned earlier.”
As soon as he pauses, he starts to play a beat with the three he had pointed at moments earlier, switching it up occasionally. You try to pay attention to the beat and how he manages to keep time; you really do.
But the way his arms flex as he plays the drums is incredibly distracting.
You tear your gaze away, nodding when his eyes meet yours to check if you’re following along.
“We can start with this. Sit down here.” He instructs, getting up and moving out of the way for you. You take a seat, taking the drumsticks that he passes you. You hesitate, unsure of where to begin as you attempt to copy his position from earlier.
“First, place your right foot on the pedal, and push down.”
You’re pleasantly surprised when you follow as he says, the kick drum producing a loud thump. You look up at him, eager for the next step.
Cole has to hide the amusement in his smile from the way your eyes gleam in excitement, pointing out the left pedal. “Place your foot there, and keep it down.”
You do so, surprised when the high-hats make a slight rattle before they still.
“This makes the sound tighter so that there’s less of an echo.” He explains, crossing his arms and answering your unasked question.
“Your posture’s too tight. You gotta relax. We have this rule in drumming: no chicken arms.” He mimics how your bent arms are almost perpendicular to your body, and you move them to rest at your sides with a sheepish smile.
He nods approvingly.
“One of the most important things is that your wrist has to be flexible. You can’t be too rigid, or it’ll start to hurt very quickly.”
You nod at his words, flexing your wrist and rotating it to loosen it up.
“We’ll start simple: use the pedal for the kick drum to follow me on this beat.” He starts to clap, acting as a metronome for you to follow along. You do so, paying close attention to the 1, 2, 3, 4 beats he’s giving you.
“Now that we got that down, I want you to use your right hand to hit the high hat with a different timing. The beat goes like this: one-ie and a two-ie and a three-ie and a four-ie.” He instructs, demonstrating quickly.
You take a deep breath, nodding and trying to follow his instructions. You wince when you accidentally hit the high-hat off timing, trying hard to coordinate your body to the different beats you play.
“Sorry,” You apologize. Cole's brows raise, surprised by the sudden apology.
“You don’t have to be sorry; you’re already doing great. Besides, it’s just your first lesson.” He chuckles. You flush, encouraged to try once more. You lift up your hands, ready to start.
“Uh-uh.” He tuts, reaching down and placing his hands on your raised elbows. You glance up, your eyes widening, when you register how close he is to you. “No chicken arms.” He chuckles, smiling warmly as he leans back.
You clear your throat, managing a nod before playing again with the high hats and kick drum. To your delight, you follow along much more easily than the first time, though there are a few off-beats here and there.
“Not bad,” Cole remarks thoughtfully. You grin, resting the drumsticks on the snare, reaching into the bag you had placed on the floor earlier for your water bottle.
“Thanks,” You reply with a simple smile, sipping your water.
“So, how do you know Nya anyway?” Cole grabs a stool, sits down next to you and leans back against the wall with a curious stare directed at you.
You hum in thought. “Well, I met her brother first at a book fair. I was in the romance aisle when I accidentally spilled a cup of coffee on his shirt.” You wince at the memory, Cole chuckling.
“I apologized so much and offered to wash his hoodie for him. But for some reason, he thought I was hitting on him. I wasn’t.” You deadpan, lips pursed. “Nya helped me scrub out the stain in the restroom, and I guess we’ve been friends ever since.”
“Sounds just like her and Kai.” Cole rolls his eyes playfully. “What about you? Why’d you start working here anyway?” You ask.
“I like music,” He replies simply. He takes a moment to think. “Not the customers, though.” He adds.
“Oh?” Now you’re intrigued.
“Earlier, this customer refused to listen to me explain the different types of guitar strings and just did his own thing even though he didn’t know what he was looking for.”
You snort in laughter, wincing at his words. “That sounds fun.” You say sarcastically.
“They ended up spending over a hundred dollars more than they needed. But hey, it’s their money, not mine.”
“On behalf of all customers, I apologize.” You joke, but his response makes your smile falter, heat blossoming on your cheeks instead as his eyes land on you.
“You’re okay, though.” He muses with a slight grin. He takes you in, almost as if he’s studying you. You feel a flush creep up your neck, fidgeting with the drumsticks you hold as you try to remain strong, refusing to look away from his calm gaze.
The bell jingles, and the both of you snap out of the daze you’re in. You sneakily fan your hot cheeks, and Cole clears his throat, standing up to greet the customer that walks in.
“Cole!” You hear a squeal, looking back up to see a girl dressed in a sparkly mini dress practically launch herself at him. He catches her by her shoulders, eyes wide in shock as the smile drops from his lips. He pushes her away gently, keeping the overexcited girl at arm's length.
“Kate.” He greets emotionlessly, all traces of humour and warmth from earlier now gone. His lips curve downwards into a subtle frown, but the girl doesn’t notice.
“You remembered my name!” She gasps, “See? We’re practically a couple already!” She doesn’t seem to notice your presence, eyes trained solely on Cole.
Her hands brush against his bare biceps, and he flinches away with a shudder. “Kate, I’m not going on a date with you. I’ve made that clear multiple times.”
“But you don’t have a girlfriend, so going on just one tiny date can't hurt.” She whines with a pout.
You wince at the dark expression on Cole’s face, racking your brain to come up with a way to help him with this persistent customer.
Oh. There was that one way you had seen your friend do once.
You stand up, place the drumsticks on the snare, and walk over to a frustrated Cole and whiny Kate.
“Babe,” You sidle up to his side, taking his hand in yours and sending her a nonchalant glance before ignoring Kate entirely, “What’s taking so long? You promised to teach me the drums.” You purse your lips, trying your best to appear like a clingy girlfriend.
He turns to you, surprised before he registers what you’re trying to do. The deep chuckle that comes next sends tingles down your spine, the warmth of his bare arm making you blush as he drapes it across your shoulder and pulls you close.
“I’m sorry, love. I’ll get back to you as soon as I finish helping this customer find the exit.” He replies, pointedly glancing at Kate who’s dumbfounded by your sudden appearance. You smile up at him and nod, walking back to the drum set and waiting patiently for him. He guides the speechless girl to the door, practically pushing her out.
He returns to the seat beside you with a relieved sigh. “Thanks back there. I’ve been trying to get rid of her for weeks, but she just wouldn’t take the hint, even after an outright rejection.”
“Anytime,” You grin, holding up the drumsticks. “Now, where were we?”

ROTTING MARILYN instrument skill levels list
JAWZ:
Vocals (singing) - EXPERT. it's what they were made to do! literally. they're a singing robot.
Vocals (rapping/beatboxing/screaming) - EXPERT. not, in fact, what they were made to do. however, with a combination of upgrades by jet set and some training with laura, they got the hang of it
Synthesizer/keyboards/turntables - MEDIUM. this stuff requires more physical skill, which they were never made to do. they're a quick learner, though, so they're making strides!
LAURA (SESSION):
Vocals - HIGH. she was the original singer for RM before JAWZ joined. she loves to sing, but once she picked up some other instrumental duties it became difficult because of the multitasking. she still does backing vocals, though, and she and dessie have a youtube channel where they upload cover songs
Guitar - MEDIUM. she's still relatively new to guitar but it's become one of her favorite things to play. she's lucky that the majority of the band's songs don't demand a lot of complex shredding
Trumpet - MEDIUM. useful mostly for jam sessions but doesn't usually come up when recording. this is a holdover from high school band class
Hurdy Gurdy - MEDIUM. i think if laura could only play one instrument for the rest of her life, it would be the guitar. but the hurdy gurdy would come really really close. she's an absolute hit at the ren faire
Piano - LOW. probably also a holdover from high school. good for writing songs, though these days she has the guitar for that instead, and for the aforementioned youtube cover jams
Djembe - LOW. she wanted to learn some percussion so she went to the music shop and walked out with a funny little drum. this one actually does come out for quite a band sessions
Accordion - BEGINNER. when i said she's a hit at the ren faire, i meant it
Production - HIGH. not an "instrument" per se, but it's worth noting that she produces most of the band's music plus some solo jams
DESSIE:
Bass - HIGH. she's the type of bass girl who won't shut up about how important the bass is to a band's sound. and she's right.
Guitar - MEDIUM. dessie was the original guitarist for RM, but laura asked her to switch to bass bc the band didn't sound right without the low end. he was happy to make the switch, and laura took over as guitarist. still plays guitar on the youtube channel
Fiddle - MEDIUM. ren faire :)
Harmonica - LOW. she's got one of those thingies that attaches the harmonica to her guitar so she can go full folky busker
Vocals - LOW. good enough for backing vocals, which were used a lot more before JAWZ became the vocalist, which she did not enjoy
Piano - BEGINNER. dessie and laura were in the same piano class in high school
JET SET:
Drums - EXPERT. he's been playing drums for a long while, and he's gotten pretty damn good at it. he's customized his drum set to fit his body. he still occasionally plays rock band just to prove that the drum parts remain no challenge
Production - LOW. this doesn't go much beyond fucking around in audacity every once in a while, but sometimes they hit on something good. they probably grew up messing around on garageband, too

IT’S TIME TO SPEAK UP!
The announcement of Samsung’s new project has been spread to the public, and everybody is invited to participate in its grand start event!
On the weekend of May 29th to May 31st, anyone interested in the arts is invited to the project opening event location for a guaranteed educational and fun time. Experts and celebrities have donated their time to offer classes and lectures on important aspects of the arts and entertainment world. To help the Speak Up! Project prosper, the entry fees will be clothes and toys that are in good state but that you do not need anymore. You must donate a different thing each day to attend the event.
Starting at noon on the 29th, people will be free to roam around the area and visit the different stalls while they wait for their classes to start. The different stalls offer delicious foods from local businesses, as well as content from smaller artists who’ll sell their pieces for a fair price. Not only does Samsung wish to help those in need, but the event will help spread the word of aspiring artists who still haven’t managed to find their place under the spotlight.
Anyone who wishes to attend classes other than just appreciate the free-to-roam event area must sign-up beforehand on the official Speak Up! Project website. All information on the different lessons and the singing-up option will be available IC starting on May 3rd.
For each day, a different and very diverse roster of activities will be available for you to participate in. This also means that some classes will have times that overlap. You cannot attend more than one class at the same time. A list of every class available can be seen below the cut and, for easier visuals to some, they have also all been organized on this spreadsheet.
If you’d like to participate in this event, you’ll have to submit a sign-up form to the rkevent inbox telling which activities your muse will partake on. The form is only a base, and you may edit it to fit more activities or less, depending on your preference. Your muse does not need to go to the event every single day. A list will can be found here with the names of which muse will be attending which class, so there is no need to post this form to your blog. There is no deadline to submit this form, and any new muses accepted through the duration of this event may join.
TITLE: MUSE FULL NAME
MAY 29TH:
ACTIVITY 1 - (name of the activity) ACTIVITY 2 - (name of the activity) ACTIVITY N - (name of the activity)
MAY 30TH:

MAY 31ST:

To be awarded points, each class will have rewards of their own, as they’ll be listed below the cut. To collect each of those rewards, you must write two 250+ words solo or two four-post threads with someone taking the same workshop as your muse (or one of each) per day.
This means you’ll have to complete two requirements (a solo or a thread) per day your muse will attend the event. If they’ll only take classes on May 29th, then you only need to write two requirements. If they’ll attend all three days, then they need to write six requirements. For each one day requirement that is completed, you may also award your muse with 1WK of a relevant achievement.
Please tag all related posts as #rkspeakup and have them up before midnight EST at the end of June 10th.
In order to verify your points, you’ll have to send a copy of the form below to the points verification blog. Simply copy the entire form, attach your solo/thread links to the X next to each activity, and submit it to the submission box. Make sure to erase anything that doesn’t apply to your muse, and to title your submission accordingly! Forms can only be submitted after the activity check on June 17th.

hi everyone! below i’ve listed the speak up! workshops that hangyul will be attending plus a little bit about why he’d like to take the class, what he’ll be like, etc. he’s not going for too many classes because he’s mostly uninterested, and he’s not a very social person in the first place ;___; silly boy. but anyways! i’d love to get some stuff going asap ♡ if you’d like to plot, please message me on here or on twitter @ p1nkup !
may 29th
aegyo 101 with k.arma’s chojin ; [ @yeosangrk ]
hangyul has no idea what this workshop is, tbh. from the moment he saw the pretty girl who was in charge of the class, he was so distracted and drawn towards her that he only realized he had signed up for a fucking aegyo class ten minutes into the actual workshop. he’s going to be a flustered, blushing mess.
freestyle hip-hop dance workshop with convex’s sehun ; [ @yejirk ]
his friend yeji drags him to this workshop, despite the fact that hangyul only knows how to line dance from his middle school gym class. tragic. it’s going to be a mess of limbs and he’s probably still not over meeting that pretty girl (chojin) earlier.
may 30th
beatboxing for beginners ; [ @rkeunbin & @rkyoojimin ]
he signs up for this class on a whim because he thinks it’s kinda cool and it’s not too long. he’ll probably think it’s a little gross at first (all that spit!) but as soon as he gets the hang of it, you can’t stop him.
may 31st
three pillars of rap ; [ @rksungmin & @rklnaeun ]
this is the only workshop he’s really excited for and dedicated to, since he really enjoys rap music. it’s a perfect way to get him acquainted with rapping and ignite the passionate fire inside of him that leads him to the idol path! (so poetic)

(belated) rkspeakup plotting!
HELLO okay so i realize there’s only a week left of this event but in my defense i was on hiatus and needed some time to figure this stuff out. i would love to plot with people, even if we don’t end up threading! we don’t want to thread a first meeting but we want them to meet in their workshops? consider it done! etc etc. i probably shouldn’t do this but if we can come up with something fun i am open to more than the minimum threads to get points, too! i’ll write out daniel’s schedule here with some notes about what he’ll be up to during them. pls comment if you’d like to do anything with him, thread or otherwise. you can reach me @hyeongjunsang on twitter if you want to plot there!
Tumblr media
DAY ONE: opening speech
daniel is a nerd so he’ll be giving it his full attention, or at least he’ll try. he’s going with @woongxrk and they’ll probably be together for this, so slipping in another plot here might be hard. i’m down if we can come up with one though!
singing for beginners
daniel has been a trainee since november so he BETTER be past beginner level, but he knows his singing could actually use some work, so he wants to see if there’s anything he can learn. let’s be real though, he mainly signed up because he’s a fan of gyeol ( @rkwendy )
body percussion
another workshop daniel signed up for just because of the idol teaching it, @haknyeonrk is his best friend. he’ll probably be kind of embarrassed the entire workshop because he has no idea what he’s doing and he’s just Like That, but he’ll have fun once he warms up!
guitar for beginners [ thread with @haseulrk ]
i know, the irony of daniel, literally known as The Guitar Guy on mga5 signed up for guitar for beginners. you guessed it...it’s because he’s a fan of haseul and wanted an excuse to talk to her. he has an advanced guitar achievement and has absolutely no other reason to be there, but he talked woong into going so he could pretend to be there for support. feel free to judge him for being there, i would love it even though he would not.
DAY TWO: beatboxing for beginners  [ thread with @rkpcy ]
daniel actually has no clue how to beatbox so he’s excited to learn! he’s a fast learner but will surely mess up a lot at first and laugh at himself for being so bad to hide his embarrassment but he’ll probably be Okay at it by the end of the workshop feel free to laugh at him too or help him get better if you know a lot!
filming techniques [ thread with @woongxrk ]
daniel started a youtube channel after the mgas that he’s pretty attached to now even if he does less on it since he became a trainee. he didn’t really know what to expect signing up for the class; he was more curious than anything else, but he’s here to learn always. feel free to borrow his camera if you forgot to/didn’t realize you needed to bring yours.
songwriting [ thread with @chrxsrk ]
daniel is salty he didn’t get picked to be an assistant for this one. i for one am living, but he’s here to see jinwook and flex that master lyric writing achievement with a vengeance. even though i already have a thread for this i would love to plot out who his group members are for this regardless because he is going to be extra af and it would be fun to know if they’re all good at songwriting already or if someone might need help!
DAY THREE: three pillars of rap
daniel loves rapping but has only been doing it since around this time last year, where he rapped a little for trc’s triple threat challenge. then he decided to rap for the skill round of mga5 and he’s been a little in love ever since. he wants to learn everything he can about it, so here he is!
don't be a one trick pony lecture [ thread with @rkmiya ]
daniel wants to do just about everything there is to do in the idol world, so he joined this to see how he could do better. little did he know, he was one of sunmi’s examples for relying too much on a crutch (see: guitar on the mgas.) get ready for him to be humiliated in front of the class! he’s going to fight for his life and try to prove he’s gotten better since, and that he can do more than one thing. i’m not entirely sure how this thread will go yet, but still, feel free to think badly of him or be impressed or feel bad for him or anything!
beginner piano [ thread with @rknak ]
daniel might be a little above beginner at piano; he can play it fine in his songs and in recordings after a lot of practice, but live? nope. the keyboardist of his now broken up band taught him a little, but he still has a lot more to learn, so here he is, happy to.

My Fave Japanese YouTubers + some YouTube Vocab
I was introduced to Japanese YouTube and J-Vloggers through a friend and I watched a lot of videos when I was first learning Japanese. I do admit that I couldn’t understand EVERYTHING but YouTubers tend to repeat themselves often and you can see what they’re doing so you pick up a lot.
It’s important to distinguish J-Vloggers from Japanese Youtubers.
J-Vlogger is a term that usually refers to foreigners living in Japan who vlog regularly.  Simon and Martina, Taylor R, Sharla, Micaela, Rachel & Jun, VenusAngelic, and Mimei are all J-vloggers.  Their channels are mostly in English and they speak very little Japanese in their videos.  Mimei actually does a lot of her videos in Japanese now but I wouldn’t recommend learning Japanese from her because she isn’t a native speaker.  Her content is still really cute though.
Japanese Youtubers are usually native Japanese content creators.  Their videos are all in Japanese usually with subtitles created by the community.  They usually belong to the big partner group UUM but there are a few independents like PDR.
PDRさん
This is a great channel for beginners.  @uni-venture mentioned him in her own post about this as Just Duncan.  He’s a British-Japanese ハフwho spent much of his childhood in England but now currently lives in Japan with his wife and their cats.  He speaks in Japanese in most of his videos with an even pace and simple videos.  All of his videos are subtitled in English.  He’s pretty unusual for a Japanese Youtuber because he isn’t attached to a major partner company and he mostly makes sarcastic joke videos and vlogs.  He often talks about Convenience store customers and things that annoy him.
PDSKabushikiGaisha PDS is PDR’s younger brother Dante.  Dante was much younger when the family moved back to Japan so he speaks no English and all of his videos are completely in Japanese.  Only a few of them are subtitled in English (mostly older videos that Duncan subbed for him when they both still lived at home) and he speaks a lot faster.  Despite his speed, Dante tends to repeat himself more often or use captions to emphasize words he’s using.  For example I learned the word 交ぜる from one of his videos.  Mostly he sits in his house and screams while doing something unnecessary like turning himself into a water balloon or fucking up one of his coffee tables.   Occasionally he also make 20 minute long videos of himself trying to win something from a UFO catcher (claw machine) and throwing away like $35 in change.  He is also a bodybuilder? So he occasionally makes videos about his fitness, but most of the time you would never know that because he does things like eat 100 Umaibo or deep fry an entire watermelon.
If you want to know how to use the particle ね you should really watch his videos.
はじめしゃちょ Hajime Syacho (President Hajime)
Hajime is probably the most difficult of these YouTubers. He talks FAST and his words often are kind of slurrred to together. But I think his videos are often translated by the community and he repeats himself a lot so you can learn lots of stuff from him.  He does a lot of dumb stuff like Dante. His videos include drinking too much of a drink that is meant to inflate your stomach to curb your appetite, making slime alone and nearly spilling it on the floor, and covering an entire room in those heat pads that you can stick to your skin.  He also does some science-y videos sometimes.  He’s a pretty big YouTube celebrity in Japan so his videos are usually a lot of fun.
If you want to learn how to use the phrase やばい!his videos are the best.
Kinoshita Yuka: Oogui Eater
Yuka is kind of a legend. She’s a little Japanese woman who eats a LOT of food. The nice thing about her is that she eats pretty normally and unlike YouTubers who do this for the weird factor, she like legitimately enjoys everything she eats. She will like eat the entire Mister Donuts holiday menu and take time between don’t to discuss how fluffy the dough is and how refreshingly light the glaze is and so on. All of her videos are translated by the community. The translations are pretty good except the regular translator always translates 美味しい to Oishii which is not helpful and is really kind of annoying.  In all honesty, Yuka is my life goals.  Like she is my fave of all time.  If my job could be to just eat like this girl, I would be living a dream.
If you want to learn how to talk about how you can’t handle spicy food, Yuka’s your girl.
HikakinTV
I used to watch him all the time but now I really don’t?  He is one of the biggest Japanese Youtubers who got famous for beatboxing.  He often beatboxes in his videos and even has a video where he beatboxed for Ariana Grande when she was on tour in Japan.  He mostly does like food and snack reviews where he gives a review at the end.  Most of his videos have been subtitled in Japanese so that you can read while you watch if you want. I don’t know he’s really not my favorite tbh…
モーニング娘 Morning Musume
So this isn’t really a Youtuber.  This is an idol group with an audience of middle aged men and young girls.  However, Morning Musume is one of few Japanese music groups that has its music videos available to view in the United States and all of their music videos have English  and Japanese subtitles which is very rare.  If yo ucan get past the cheesy costumes and the general idolness of their videos, you can learn A LOT from them.  Remember to keep in mind that the Japanese you’ll learn will be a little bit more awkward than vlog-style Japanese because it will come from song lyrics.  To be completely honest though, I love muting their videos and playing like hip-hop and rap underneath of them because they match up shockingly well.
Texan In Tokyo
So this is technically more of a J-vlog channel but whatever.  So this channel has actually ended but it’s the channel of Grace and Ryosuke, an international couple.  Most of their videos are travel videos in English but some of them are cooking videos done entirely in Japanese with subtitles.  Ryosuke is really good and speaks slowly in simple sentences so you can see what he’s making and hear him talk about it.  He tries to do the videos with time constraints but doesn’t always do that.  Their other videos are good too for culture lessons and general information about living in Japan.
Kirizaki Eiji 桐崎栄二
So in all honesty, you probably won’t learn anything from him at all but I put him on here because I love his stuff.  He, like many male Japanese Youtubers, is just like the master of pure idiocy.  His channel is mostly him messing with his sister and making videos with quick, sudden jump cuts and loud slapping noises.  He talks way too fast but he uses a lot of subtitles so you’ll get something. Eiji lives in the suburbs somewhere with his sister, grandparents, and parents and frequently just messes with all of them.  Occasionally he purchases expensive cuts of beef, pours himself a couple of glasses of Mugicha (barley tea, god’s gift to mankind) and feasts alone in his kitchen.  I just find him really entertaining I don’t know.
I think the lesson with him is to find things that make you want to learn Japanese.  I don’t quite completely understand all of the humor in his videos but I really want to so I study Japanese.
Other Reccs:
AskJapanese – Interviews by Cathy Cat
Mahoto – He eats giant cicadas once a year
JPCMHD – Commercials usually in one to two week intervals

Music Production Tips & Tricks – Part 1
‘As an aspiring music producer, earlier on in the process, we do tend to get confused and sidetracked with the amount of valuable and the not so valuable information which is out there for us.
The Dos and Don’ts of Music production and the hows and ifs and the endless banter that comes with it. What gets missed out is the basic tips and tricks that you need to understand when you are starting off as a producer. So here are a few tips that will help you to get started and allow you to wrap your head around all the important information that you need to know in your infancy stage of being a music producer, so here we go.’ – Piran Irani (Music Production Faculty Member)
Windows versus Mac. Which DAW to use?
This has been and will always be a long-running conversation starter between new and aspiring producers. Which operating system to use and which DAW is perfect to get started? Hmmm.. Although this is quite an important aspect of making music, your DAW does matter and the computer you use also does matter. But it does not matter if you use windows or mac. Both are equally good and gets the job done. There is Logic pro which only runs on a mac but there are other DAWs that run on both, windows and mac. So, basic thought should be to get a computer that has enough RAM and memory to not hang and lag which in turn makes your workflow and creative translation flawless. Invest in good storage and memory. Understanding any DAW should help you get started. At the end of it remember that a DAW is only as smart as the producer. You should be able to work any DAW at the end of it, as long as your basics are understood, they all function in a similar fashion and only the GUI and the architecture may or may not be exactly the same, but sonically you can achieve the same result in any system and application that you choose to use. So focus on creating music and not on the platform used to create it on.
Using loops and sample banks in your production
This is a sensitive topic and discussion. Many producers say that using samples and loops are in a way cheating. As a beginner, to directly start using loops may slow down the process of you understanding how exactly the loop was made which is equally important, to understand the entire process of production. But, there is no hard and fast rule that says that you cannot use these loops and samples. They are made for producers to use in their production (Provided they are bought or are royalty-free) they add a different flavour and personality to your music and can be used. If you can create each sound on your own, nothing like it, but if you face difficulty in doing that, you can always start using these loops to get inspired and get the feel of the track that you intend on producing, slowly you can replace the loops with MIDI instances and have something that is entirely created by you. So, do not feel the need to stay away from pre-recorded sounds and loops. Use them at your discretion but do not steal other peoples sounds and work, make sure they are royalty-free and/or paid for. Also, make sure that the entire track is not only loops, put in some effort and add your own sound to it as well, to create a well-balanced production.
It’s not the gear, it’s the ear
To get started, all you need is a good stable computer and a midi keyboard controller, maybe a basic microphone. There are tons of software instruments that come pre-installed in the DAW you end up choosing, so get used to them first, understand the workflow and the nuances that go behind creating the sound. Get the basics right and then invest in other gear which may be used to give you a more tactile experience when it comes to producing music. At the end of it, always remember that it’s the producer that makes a difference and the time and effort they have put behind learning and understanding the art form. No amounts of expensive gear will get you there. You get the basics right and then watch the magic unfold.
Too many plugins spoil the broth, maybe not
Most plugins have a layout which is not very difficult to understand. As long as you have understood the basics and know what each parameter stands for and does. All plugins have a unique flavour of their own and to be able to understand and tweak it as per your taste is where the real fun and expertise lies. So, start basic, use what is there in the DAW, understand the terminology and the parameters used there. Figure out what each knob does and then progress onto more enhanced and complicated plugins. There are tons of research and study materials available on the internet and you could learn the whats and the hows in absolutely no time. Remember, too many plugins is not the way to go in the start. Start small, start with one, mastering it is the key. Once you understand what the true potential of keeping your production simple is then and only then can and should you go and use many and different plugins, as you would understand what it’s doing and how you can accurately implement it in your work.
Become genre-agnostic and always believe in Active listening
This is one of the most important points you could ever learn and understand. Do not look down on any genre, even if it’s not in your comfort zone of genres, every musical piece is an extension of the producer and the musician’s experience and to be able to listen to it and extract all the information from it becomes a part of your own learning curve and expertise. Every genre has something to teach you, regardless of the language it is being sung in, what matters is tuning your brains to actively listen to and understand what is being played and how it has been added into that particular artist’s work. You get so many ideas and understand other musicians’ state of mind by only listening to their work. Active listening is and will always be your most important instructor.
Practise makes perfect
The 21-day rule is a method of doing/saying/being something for 21 days, to make your ‘something’ become a habit. Practise is the key to any good and successful artist. Doing the same production task for 21 days will make your flow and movement around your computer and gear effortless, leaving more time for you to focus on translating your creative thought process onto your computer and less time for you to figure out what to do. The more you practise, the faster you will understand all the nuances that go behind the production process. The more you practice, the more mistakes you will make and you will learn things faster. You only understand if you literally do that particular task at hand. Music production might seem like a mundane task but it gets interesting every time your project plays on a loop. You discover new glitches and ideas flow in when you least expect it, which brings me to my next point.
Inspiration comes from anywhere
Keep an open mind and inspiration shall find you. Maintaining a well-balanced diet and exercising regularly truly helps with finding and getting inspired faster. Getting inspiration from a walk amidst nature or through your mundane everyday routine and travel can work wonders, more than you can imagine. Always carry a notebook or keep your recorder shortcut on your phones homepage, if you get a tune in your head and you don’t know how to write it down. No stress, sing it out in your voice notes, it may seem slightly weird to the third person staring at what is going on with you but it more or less should not matter. Write down your ideas, sing your tunes, beatbox your beats in your phone’s recorder and when you get back to your work station, you’ll have an extensive list of ideas waiting to be implemented. Go all out and think outside the box, inspiration can literally strike anywhere.
Sample everything
Carrying around a basic recorder and capturing everything and anything can turn out to be gold when you actually sit down to create. Speeches and conversations with friends can turn into memorable samples, the sound of a stone splashing around in the water can be a great way to create a sound effect. Steps on dried leaves or the purring of your cat. Well, to be honest here, the possibilities are endless. Go ahead and try this one out.
Follow your sound
It may be very tempting to copy a famous artist and imitate a style of music and get used to it, but do try and think outside the box. Well, it is good to imitate your favourite artist via the art of active listening, it also is an art form to think outside the box and ask the main question to yourself while producing. “What if…” always be curious and ask yourself the main question, what if I tried it this way or what if I did things differently. This will give birth to a truly new and unique you, your sound will develop through this technique and once you eventually master that, there’s no going back.
All in all, there’s so much more to making and producing music than just these few tips and pointers. Getting and achieving the right mindset is the way to go. Getting the right tutorship earlier on is the key and very important in your success and journey as a successful music producer.

Speak Up! Requirements Clarification
**IMPORTANT: We’ve changed points rewards from 2-hour classes to +4 points so it’ll be equivalent to the 1-hour classes.
**IMPORTANT 2: Info on requirements for idols who are teaching a class added to the original post.
**IMPORTANT 3: A link to the attendees list has been added to the original post and can also be found here.
For each day your muse is attending the event, you need to write TWO requirements. What does a requirement entail?
ONE requirement = one 250+ words solo OR one four-post thread with someone taking the same workshop as you (or the idol/trainee instructors).
My muse will only attend one class in one day. How many requirements do I need to write?
A: Two.
My muse will attend six classes in one day. How many requirements do I need to write?
A: Two.
If your muse will attend more than one day, you simply multiply it by the number of days. 2 for one day. 4 for two days. 6 for three days.
My muse will attend one class in one day. How many points/achievements do they get?
A: They’ll get how many points the class is worth and one relevant achievement. For example, if they only attend the ‘Singing For Beginners’ class on the 29th, they’ll get +2 SINGING POINTS and +1WK RELEVANT ACHIEVEMENT. The achievement for this class  will probably be one of the ones under singing. You may find all the achievements here.
My muse will attend six classes in one day. How many points/achievements do they get?
A: They’ll get how many points all the classes are worth and one relevant achievement. For example, you can go to six classes on the 30th if you only get the 1-hour classes. For each one, they’ll get: DRINKS FOR VOCAL CORDS UPKEEP WORKSHOP: +2 SINGING POINTS BEATBOXING FOR BEGINNERS: +2 RAPPING POSING FOR PICTORIALS: +2 CHARISMA FILMING TECHNIQUES & TOPIC BRAINSTORM: +2 CHARISMA OR +2 CREATIVITY INSTAGRAM WORKSHOP: +2 CHARISMA OR +2 CREATIVITY HOW TO JUGGLE SCHOOL WORK AND CHASING AFTER YOUR DREAMS: +2 CHARISMA OR +2 CREATIVITY and +1WK RELEVANT ACHIEVEMENT. The achievement needs to only be relevant to one of the classes. You may find all the achievements here.
Doesn't that mean everyone could write the full requirements for each day and yet get different point totals as a reward?
A: Yes! The highest number of classes one muse can attend is a total of 16 different classes. We thought that making people write for 16 different requirements (one for each class) under the same timeframe as someone who could write only 1 felt worse than just giving people the same requirements. Some people have more than one muse, and others have trainee/idol extra requirements to deal with, so it could end up being way too much. This doesn’t stop you from threading with more people than the number of requirements you need, or to write more solos, either! While points may be important in the rp, remember that having fun is the most important!
We’ll be deleting any asks about points and requirements on our inbox in case the questions were already answered through this post. If there is still any doubt, please send another ask!

Types Of Singing In Depth
R&B:
Although not as popular as it was in the ’90s, the R&B singing style is just like any other singing style with a mix of soul, pop and even funk.
Pop:
Pop music is the face of the music industry currently, with thousands of new artists trying to grab a piece of the pie every year and very few succeeding. While the ’80s has been dominated by disco music and rock, our preference has started to change in the late ’90s and thus pop music has become a norm. If you are a 90’s child back when MTV actually had music playing and not reality shows you probably remember that there were a lot of different styles of music playing, some have become more successful than others.
Country:
Country music was very popular in the ’70s and ’80s, but for some reason, it started to fade out. Most country singers have been born into this singing style, often having singer parents which lead them onto this path. Most country singers which started singing as children once they grew up trying to switch singing styles, either due to personal preference or due to chancing the trend, some have successfully switched to singing pop, while others are extremely successful in country music as there is fairly small competition in that singing style.
Gospel:
Gospel singing is not as popular as it once was, mostly as people go less and less to the church thus fewer children can experience the choir singing. Most beginner singers also want to have some individuality and this is not possible in a choir. There are a lot of R&B singers which have started singing at an early age in a choir, although the ones that had become famous switched singing styles but they all tend to follow closely the rules which the choir taught them.
Rock:
Singing rock is a lot more difficult than it sounds, the singer has to be able to growl and scream while singing and oftentimes beginner singers go overboard with either growling or singing. The rock singing style is fairly popular even this day, although it is mostly dominated by just a handful of artists which can successfully pull off singing rock. Simply put for beginners singing hard is fairly hard without simply screaming out of your lungs as some rock singers tend to do.
Opera:
Opera or classical singing style is an extremely old singing style, hundreds of years ago opera singers were as popular as rock stars in our modern times. The main reason why there are not so many opera singers is that the singer has to be able to sing live in front of an audience, as opera singing is not that popular in TV or Radios. Singing opera gives the singer a lot of freedom on how to convey their emotion, although generally speaking most opera songs are sad and dramatic, which isn’t the best considering today’s trends with upbeat songs.
Hip Hop:
Hip Hop emerged somewhere in New York some time ago, it has catchy lyrics and it is often accompanied by beatboxing and rapping. Hip Hop has been extremely popular in starting in the late ’80s and even in the early 2000s. Hip Hop gives a lot of flexibility to singers, and there are a lot of beginner singers who have started their career with either hip hop or a mix of hip hop and rapping.
Blues:
Blues singing style originated from the deep south, sometime during the late 1800s, during that time blues was the today’s pop or rock. During the past couple of decades singing blues has somewhat gone out of fashion, most singers rather than singing blues tend to either stick with singing R&B or Jazz. Although blues singers do still have massive followings they are not as mainstream as the other more popular singing types.
Jazz:
Most people put Jazz and Blues in the same singing styles, however, there are some major differences between the two of them. While both of them do rely heavily on the use of instruments, Blues has also a lot more singing incorporated in the songs than Jazz does.
