Name: Human non-conforming (HNC)

Human non-conforming (HNC, similar to gender non-conforming) is an umbrella label encompassing all identities and subcultures that somehow incorporate nonhuman elements in any way. This includes (note that identities in brackets are not by default under this umbrella, and are not an exhaustive list):

- People who dress or appear in nonhuman ways (cosplayers, furries, body modders)

- People who reclaim or relate to nonhumanity (voidpunk, otherhearted, copinglink)

- People who are not human or partially not human (in any form) (alterhuman, overhuman)

- People who use certain genders or neopronouns (aliengender, xenopronouns)

- People who don't identify as any of these things but still are somehow linked to nonhumanity

This label is self identified. It should not be used on others to dehumanise them.

The symbol is meant to represent twisting and changing humanity, people who are innately not human, inner nonhuman aspects and generally all HNC people.

When I shaved my head I was at this point of my youth where I realized I would never be societies idea of a man nor would I ever be societies idea of a woman without pretending to some extent and I had no interest in pretending for anyone. Learning about the history of the land I call home, the land my spirit is connected to, taught me that the way I feel is exactly as it should be and I should love and live that truth. Embrace being like both men and women and also embrace being nothing like them at all. Do both, all at once and all the time. I practiced that teaching, and now it runs in my blood.

i’m so fascinated by what gwen says here because there are ways in which it feels almost antithetical to a more surface level reading of her character (that does, at times, feel like the one the show wants us to engage with.) she doesn’t say that exposing valiant is the Right Thing To Do or appeal to a sense of honor or justice in the broader sense, even though i’m sure she does think that and believe those values apply here.

what she says here is… so self-interested, on merlin’s behalf. she believes him pretty implicitly (she asks once if he’s telling the truth, he says yes, she doesn’t question it) and her main reaction is “you have to do something to prove you were right.”

and i think part of that comes from just, like, really liking merlin right away / seeing the good of humanity in him (something i will maintain forever is mutually a big part of what they see in each other) and being offended on his behalf, feeling that he’s been Wronged. so like, justice is at play in her mind here, but it’s on a far more personal, intimate level than just being about Doing What’s Right.

and i also don’t think it’s a reach to say gwen might be doing some projection here. it might not have been on the same level/with the same stakes, but how many times do you think gwen had to bite her tongue when she knew she was right about something? morgana is kind to her as an employer at this point—far kinder than many nobles would be to their servants. but there is still and uneven balance to their dynamic, and even if morgana is willing to hear her out about certain things, in front of other nobles, in front of court, in front of uther—gwen knows her word doesn’t count for much, either.

I guess this one stands out to me the most because I loved the Frenchfry episode. And NO! Not necessarily for the inflating bodies that seem to be a fetish. It’s more for Pleakley’s incompetence.

the cat owner story about my dad (I threw that in at the end of my last post about him) is that he never had pets growing up but when he was an adult he gave owning cats a shot. they were outdoor cats (it was the 80s/90s) but this man. this fucking man. the most I ever saw him interact with our cat was when he was feeding her leftover turkey or ice cream (she would stand on her back legs and meow for turkey, it made him laugh so hard). but I found out later.

that our family cat Stan was my dad's first cat/pet at all, he got her as a kitten in college, he taught her to be okay with him clipping her nails and giving her baths.

you have to understand that Stan didn't like kids and would barely tolerate people she didn't like. she was an independent old lady who did everything on her terms.

but my dad taught himself how to care for her when she was a little baby and she was calm when she was being cared for and would let my mom do all that stuff too. the idea of my dad as a raw scrungly 20 year old doing that with her as a little baby kitten just.

we grew on her eventually. we were her lil family too. and I miss her. but I also think of my dad teaching himself how to be a person by loving an animal and.
