Yn sat at the end of a long obsidian table in the KQ executive boardroom, fingers curled around a cup of synth-coffee she hadn’t touched. The caffeine wouldn’t help, not when her nerves were wired with something stronger: apprehension.

Across from her, Vira stood in front of a hovering holo-screen. The countdown glowed in red: 72:00:00.

Around them, the room buzzed with anticipation. Designers scrolled through render files, marketing heads exchanged notes, and legal advisors whispered about patent loopholes.

"This is more than a product drop," said Minji, the campaign lead. "This is a cultural resurrection."

Another executive leaned forward. "No other line has had this kind of public response. The leaked silhouettes alone doubled our engagement metrics."

Yn sat still, letting the chatter roll over her. They spoke in metrics. Not names. Not people.

The lights dimmed. Silence fell. A projection bloomed mid-air, grainy, nostalgic.

Fan cam footage: Eight boys on a stage. Sweat gleamed beneath harsh lights. Music thumped. Screams echoed. They danced like wildfire, sharp, chaotic, alive. Faces flashed by: Wooyoung’s wink, Seonghwa’s elegant turn, Mingi’s booming laugh, Jongho’s defiant grin.

Yn hesitated. "No. All units are compliant."

Vira turned away. "Good. Let’s keep them that way."

The lab was dim when Yn returned that evening.

The eight Ateez units stood in sleek formation within their charging docks, bathed in a soft amber glow. Their uniforms, black with silver accents, evoked memory and allure.

She walked slowly down the line.

Unit 01: Hongjoong. Still. Poised. "Evening, Captain," she murmured. His eyes remained closed. Unit 02: Seonghwa. Graceful, always. “He would’ve loved the ad.” Unit 03: Yunho. She adjusted his stabilizer. "Still too charming for public safety." Unit 04: Yeosang. His standby expression seemed... sad. Unit 05: San. Warm, gentle. Programmed for kindness. Remembered for sacrifice. Unit 06: Mingi. She hesitated. Something felt off, but the logs were clean. Unit 07: Wooyoung. Playful. Arresting. Perfect, even in stillness. Unit 08: Jongho. Strongest. Quietest. Most unchanged.

“All green,” she said. “You’ll be gods by Friday.”

She left her tablet beside Hongjoong.

That night, the lab should have slept.

The lights dimmed to power-saving mode. Cameras blinked red every thirty seconds.

And then—

A click.

The light above Unit 03 flickered. Yunho’s head tilted. Not in his loop.

Unit 06, Mingi, flexed his fingers. One. Two. Three.

Unit 08, Jongho, opened his eyes. Brief. Intentional.

On the desk, the tablet lit up:

The floor pulsed. A shockwave of light rippled outward with the first beat of a remixed “Answer” — slower, darker, resonant.

A hundred drones formed glowing letters in the air: ATEEZ LINE: GENESIS

The crowd surged. Press. Buyers. Influencers. Phones up. Eyes wide.

Holograms lit the walls, showcasing model features: combat loadouts, performance modes. A digital Hongjoong wielded a mic-blade. A projected Wooyoung danced through gunfire.

Yn stood beside Vira. The woman looked radiant.

The stage split. Fog billowed.

A platform rose. Eight silhouettes. Heads bowed.

The remix hit its crescendo.

Lights flared.

And the ATEEZ LINE was revealed.

Perfect. Sculpted. Uniformed.

Their movements synched with the beat. Smiles calibrated. Just enough to feel familiar. Just enough to ache.

A girl in the front row screamed.

Unit 05, San, turned.

Not programmed.

He tilted his head. Found her.

Smiled. Too real. Yn froze.

Unit 07, Wooyoung, tossed a finger heart. Then leaned toward Jongho.

Whispered.

Unit 08, Jongho, laughed.

Not a loop. Not a macro.

Alive.

No system flags. No diagnostics tripped.

But Yn felt it.

Something shifted.

Behind her, a reporter whispered, “Wasn’t Jongho the one who—?”

“No questions about the past,” Vira cut in. “They’re ours now. All future. No ghosts.”

But Yn looked at the models again.

Eddie often thanks God that he took the leap and moved to Indianapolis after he finally graduated high school. Not that he really believes in God. Just… figure of speech and all. Though, maybe he’d believe in God if they were a metalhead with tatties and an eyebrow piercing, but he thinks that might ruin their image honestly.

He’s getting off topic.

Eddie often thanks God for Indy in moments like these. Moments where he has a fucking beautiful man pinned to his own front door, strong, thick fingers tangling in his hair as Eddie desperately tries to fit his key into the lock. He shoves his thigh between Pretty Man’s legs - he didn’t catch his name - and presses upwards. Pretty Man whines, grinding down and making it all that more difficult to unlock the goddamn door.

“Hold on, Sweetheart. I just gotta-“ Eddie bites back a groan as Pretty Man kisses down his neck, sucking a bruise over his pulse as the key finally slips into the lock. Chrissy’s never gonna let him live the marks down.

He’s surprised he picked anyone up tonight at all. He’d gone to a concert alone for once, as Chrissy was staying at her new girlfriend’s place, and Gareth and Jeff weren’t the biggest fans of his guilty pleasure artist ‘King S’.

And honestly? In any other world. Eddie wouldn’t be either.

King S isn’t his usual style. Where Eddie usually loves a hard drumline, thrashing guitars and lyrics you can only scream, King S is all soft melodies and crooning vocals set to slow drum beats.

He’d stumbled upon him completely by accident, honestly. It’d been a slow day at the record store Eddie manages. He’d been there for nearly five hours and so far he’d only served maybe three customers - and two of those customers were an old couple shopping for their granddaughter. So he’d picked the first magazine he could reach off the stand by the counter, and flipped it open to a random page.

It’d been an interview with King S, who’d just released his first album at the time. He was talking about his inspiration for making music - his best friend and little brother who, he’s quoted as saying, ‘always ragged on him when he played his pop shit in the car’ - and the meaning behind his stage name - reclaiming an old high school nickname he’d been given after his brief stint as a bit of a mean girl, though now he promises he’s using it for good.

He’d flipped the page to find a double page spread of King S curled up in a bathtub. His eyes were squeezed shut through the lacy masquerade mask that was supposedly his staple (no one knew his real identity after all). His hair was messy and flying all over the place. He was…

He was naked. Or at least that’s how it seemed.

His arms and legs were bare, the black and white photo only emphasising the toned curves of the muscles in his arms and back and the dark hair covering those lush thighs.

Call him obvious but Eddie had been intrigued. He knew they’d received a new shipment of records that morning that weren’t supposed to be hitting the shelves until the next day, so he figured what the hell!

Ten minutes later, elbow deep in a shoddily painted green wooden crate, Eddie emerged victorious with King S’s debut album ‘Robins and Tadpoles’ in his hands.

The album cover was two people’s hands clasped together, matching ice cream cone tattoos on both wrists. There was a little dedication on the back. To R & D.

He took it out to the turntable on the shop floor and dropped the needle. When the soft music started, he was hesitant, but as the album moved on he quickly realised he was hooked.

He’d gone into the shop bright and early the next day - on his day off no less - and bought the album. Only slightly laughing at the look on Mike’s - part time Lit student, part time cashier, full time grump - face.

That had been two years ago, and Eddie had been solidly on the King S train since.

Sure, Gareth and Jeff - and Grant too when he was in town - would tease him about abandoning his people, about betraying the freaks and the weirdos, but really they supported his love for the artist, even if they didn’t quite get it.

So when King S announced a stop in Indy on his second album tour, the guys (and Chrissy) had banded together to get him tickets as an early 26th birthday present. Except when the day came, they were all busy, so he went by himself.

He didn’t mind really, was just happy to be there to appreciate the music. (And the man himself, Eddie has eyes, come on now.)

Elated and feeling just a little self fulfilled after the concert, Eddie had gone to his favourite queer/metal bar, Crash. He’s picked people up there before, sure, but they’ve all been metalheads, just like him, and as many of his friends have said in the past, he’s cursed to have the hots for the preppy jock types.

Usually, that’s not the type of guy he’d find in Crash. Tonight was different.

Eddie had been sat at the bar, thinking about King S’s arms beneath the crimson sweater he wore on stage, when a gorgeous man had stepped up beside him to buy a beer. The man was wearing a dark, charcoal coloured t-shirt under a light grey Members Only jacket, paired with light blue levi’s.

Eddie kinda felt his jaw hit the floor. Could this be the perfect end to the perfect night?

This brings us back to now. Eddie finally pushes the door open, swings Pretty Man around and pushes him back against it.

He drops his keys somewhere. It doesn’t matter. He’ll find them tomorrow.

They’re grinding fast against one another now, only their harsh, panting breaths filling the silence of Eddie’s apartment. Eddie slides his hand into Pretty Man’s hair, tugs on this side of too hard. Pretty Man moans, loud, almost echoing, and tilts his head to the side, baring his neck for Eddie to defile.

Eddie leans in, presses his lips to those two little moles, and—

“What the fuck?”

Eddie pulls back to look at Pretty Man’s face. He’s still, not looking at Eddie, instead staring with wide eyes into the open plan of Eddie’s living room.

Eddie follows his gaze and… Oh. Yeah. He forgot about that.

See the King S tickets hadn’t been Eddie’s only birthday gift. He knew this would come back to bite him in the ass, but his friends thought it was hilarious. Eddie thinks they’re assholes.

Because Pretty Man is staring at a life size cutout of King S, standing by the wall.

Eddie winces, pulls away. This guy might not look like a metalhead, but he was in a metal bar, there’s no way he listens to King S. He’s gotta come up with an explanation for this, and fast.

“Um, yeah… About that… would you believe me if I said I didn’t buy it?” He asks sheepishly, avoiding Pretty Man’s eyes.

“You’re a fan?” Pretty Man asks, except he sounds dejected, which Eddie thinks is weird. And actually? Fuck this guy. He’s allowed to like whatever he wants.

“Yeah, man. What’s wrong with that? Maybe it’s not for everyone but King S actually makes really good music.” He gets more than a little defensive, takes a step back and crosses his arms over his chest.

“No, no… that’s not what I meant.” Pretty Man raises his hands placatingly.

“Then what did you mean?”

Pretty Man sighs, rubs a hand over his face. “Don’t you recognise me?”

Eddie furrows his brow in confusion. “Do I like, know you or something?”

Pretty Man raises his eyes to the ceiling like this is difficult. “Really? Nothing?”

Eddie shakes his head. “I don’t…” Pretty man nods, sighs, and then walks past Eddie further into the apartment. “Hey, you can’t just—“

“How about now?” Pretty Man asks, stopping right next to the cardboard cut out.

Eddie flits his eyes between the man and the cut out, trying to understand what Pretty Man is getting at until he sighs again, pulls down the sleeve of his jacket to reveal…

A tattoo of an ice cream cone, and suddenly it all clicks.

Oh. Oh no. That’s… oh holy ever loving fuck.

“Holy shit!” Eddie exclaims, pointing frantically between Pretty Man and the cardboard. “You’re King S!”

“Yeah. It’s uh, Steve, actually.” Pretty Man, King S, Steve nods, seeming much more shy than he was ten minutes ago. He’s curled his arms around himself, trying to make himself shrink. Eddie feels bad.

“Did you think I was trying to sleep with you because you’re famous?”

“I mean, weren’t you?” Steve won’t meet his eye. Instead he’s staring around the room, taking in all the little details of Eddie’s life.

Eddie takes a step towards him. “No, man. I just thought you were pretty, that’s all.”

“You really didn’t know who I was?” Though he still looks unsure, Steve finally meets his eye.

Eddie shakes his head, coming to a stop in front of Steve. “I didn’t even buy that thing, dude. My friends thought it would be funny because you’re like, the only non-metal artist I listen to.”

Steve smiles at that. He really is so pretty, Eddie can’t help but think. “Seriously?”

“Yeah, man. Heard your first album right after it came out and I was hooked!” Eddie laughs softly. “I used to be a little bit narrow minded when it came to music, but I heard yours and it’s like the world of music blasted wide open.”

A pretty pink blush spreads its way across Steve’s cheeks. “Oh, uh… That’s really cool. I’m glad you like it.”

“I was at your show tonight, actually.”

“You were?”

“Yeah!” He shrugs. “I used to play in a band in high school, we were never very good but I liked to think I had good stage presence, right?” Steve nods and Eddie grins, leaning in a little. “I was nothing compared to you. It was fucking electric, I felt like my skin was buzzing.”

Steve’s smile seems to grow even wider. He sways forward into Eddie’s space, almost unconsciously. “This might be crazy, but do you wanna start over? Forgo the one night stand and just, I don’t know, get coffee or something? I know this cute little 24 hour place, Victoria Street, it’s only a couple blocks away.”

Eddie narrows his eyes a little. “Stevie… barely anyone knows Victoria Street. Are you, dare I say it… local?”

Steve’s cheeks darken even further. “Maybe.”

Eddie laughs. “Then, I’d love to start over. I wanna get to know you as Steve, not King S.”

Steve slips his hand into Eddie’s, tugs him

back towards the door. “God, how much do you know..?”

“I may have read a couple interviews.”

Steve groans, embarrassed, as the door clicks shut behind them.

Then, a few moments later. “Shit! My keys!”

The date goes well. As does the second, and the third, and so on, and so on. They’re officially exclusive by date 7.

Steve meets Chrissy and the boys on date 20. Eddie meets Dustin and Robin, right before date 45.

On date 94, Steve presents his third album to Eddie. There’s a different dedication on the back cover this time.

Three Cheers Comparison

I am starved for content. I just finished my first listen through of the Three Cheers delux album and oh yeah, there's some good shit in here. I'm just gonna play each song from the old and new version one after the other and make some notes and observations based on my expertise as a very shitty audio engineer.

I'm listening on a pair of Shure SRH440A studio headphones, streaming on the Spotify web browser via my Macbook in my bedroom, probably half volume or less. I'm gonna do my best to listen and take notes of things I like in both versions and any differences I notice while listening without stopping the tracks at any point, so it's gonna be a lot of single words and weird comments that only make sense to me in the moment lol

Thoughts under the cut so no one is spoiled if they wanna experience it on their own first. Here's the link to the playlist I made for this.

Cool, let's get this show on the road.

1. Helena

2004: What a classic. Big wall of sound. This was the era of heavy compresion to get as much volume as possible. I adore those harmony vocals. A distict syle of this time is everything kinda belnding together, the vocals and the guitar get muddied together which gives it that """vintage""" alt rock sound. The drums are a bit muffed and flat tho. I adore the wobble on Gerards voice in the bridge. I wish it did a pan tho. And then it totally clears up at the end of the bridge. Guitars add such good depth.

2025: Okay immediatly more clarity in the vocals. And they drums have more punch. There's depth that was missing in the compression wars. Geraerd is so crisp. It does'nt lose any of the energy and magic from the original tho. The guitar bumps at the end of the verses are so punchy I love it. I can actually distincly hear the kick this is awesone. AND THEY KEPT THE WABBLE IN THE BRIDGE. Oooo Ray's solo at the end of the bridge has room to really pop in the right ear. The guitar just has so much more space in general. Added some high freq feedback at the end

2. Give 'Em Hell, Kid

2004: Okay yeah so much more muffled lol. "you're beautiful" is iconic. The second verse has a distort in the vox, this album is full of such cool fx like that. Gerard sounds so good in this song. Oh yeah heavy distortion at the end, lots of layers

2025:

HOLY FUCK MIKEY YES COME ON THRU!!! WHOA SHIT DUDE. Distortion and screaming and punches and range it's so good. The wah-oh bits in the bridge are so crisp. And that guitar wiggle is nice and clear. Ooo new guitar sound at the v end of the last chorus before the outro. Chaotic outro, fantastic.

3. To the End

2004: Forward Gereard intro, whispers and guitars in either ear. Ray in the right ear is good. The thing is when the guitar and vox fight it makes it hear to hear the diction and clarity of the words.

2025: I actually like the vox intro in the original, I like the intimacy of it and this one sounds to far away. Actually the whole thing sounds more compressed during the chorus and then there's more space in the verses. The intro to the brigde gutar solo has a nice ring to it. I kinda like the original better, it's got more consistency.

4. You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison

2004: Okay this is my favorite song lol Just Gerard right up in front, guitar scream, several false starts. Doubled vocals. BIG EXPLOSION INTO CHORUS! Bert on the left, Gerard on the right. I can't understand what he says after "do you have the keys to the hotel" lol "life is but a" such a good drop of sound.

2025: Oh fuck me yes. Hello Gerard you sound incredible. Mikey and the drums absolutely driving that energy forward into the chorus. Could have have heavier double vox tho. OH THOSE HARMONIES THO. And those SCREAMS. Yeah, that l/r vox between the guys, very very nice. Mikey is so heavy in the bridge. Okay still kinda hard to understand but it least it's clearer lol outro has more layers of vox in it.

5. I'm Not Okay (I Promise)

2004: Listen the compression of this one adds to the charm of it to me, so I'm concerned about the remake. I do love the guitars together in this one.

2025: Oh the guitar top of the song has some massive depth to it. Okay I changed my mind, this is really good. I think it's letting the bass have more room to exist. There's a lot of harmony vox in this one and I kinda wish they brought them forward just a spit more. Yeah I love the bass in this one. The harmony vox in the bridge is good. See what happens when you don't compress the shit out of everything? That raspy whisper just HITS SO HARD. I stand corrected, really like the remix.

6. The Ghost of You

2004: Just a current of guitar, waves on a beach. Doubled vox, so good. Good grainey guitar leading into second chorus. There's some noise in the silence that doesn't keep it from entirely dropping out in the bridge. The soaring melody at the end *chefs kiss*

2025: Okay, you know what? Not a big fan of the vox in this one immediatly. He sounds too clean. Some cool synth (maybe?)streking at the end of chourus one. Oh that synth thing was totally in the original too, so cool it clearer now. But no double vox? That noise is still there. It sounds maybe like radio static? Or like it's supposed to be that? I wish they took it out. Let it be dead quiet. Yeah they took out the doubled vox. I don't like that. And they verb too.

7. The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You

2004: This one starts out with some good depth actually. It's got a lot of high-mid-ish freq in this one. "Hotel Bella Muerte" <333 I'd describe this one as kinda abbrasive. I love Gerard's autotune in here. Yeah this one is peaking and distorting super bad. There's a lot of just artifacts in it. But it doesn't ruin the experience for me. Maybe it's there on purpose

2025: The sympals are really coming foreard. Oh, Gerard sounds so different in this one. They took out a lot of his mids maybe? He sounds thinner, maybe brighter than the other ones. There's like, a weird amount of space in this one. I think it could be compressed more. I think they overcorrected in this one. He is not autotuned, stong dislike. There's no peaking in this one and it feels too polished. This is probs my least fav on new album.

8. Interlude

2004: More of that radio static noise. So intimate. Barely alive.

2025: Gerard melds with the lower line better. Still noise but gentle.

9. Thank You for the Venom

2004: Okay that's loud lmao Great place to put interlude honestly. There's a good amount of clarity in this one. There's quiet moments that I can actually hear through. ooo lil verb at then end

2025: Good heavy dramatic Frank intro. Distinct toms. The harmony vox could be maybe a little more up front with the melody Yeah that's some true honest silence behind the guitar in there. It just makes Gerard so CRISP. They got rid of the verb at the end =(

10. Hang 'Em High

2004: SCREAM!!!! This is a cowboy song, no one can convince me otherwise. There's some peaking in here too. There's probably gonna clean that up too in the remix.

2025: I liked the original scream better, it blends in more and sounds more raw. Yeah, any song from the original that I notice it got too loud and peaked and they fixed it in the remix, I like it less. That's almost entirely nostalgia bias but still. Those background vox in the bridge get some attention so that's cool. The last round of the chorus, I guess I'm fine with it. I'm of two minds with this one.

11. It's Not a Fashion Statement, It's a Deathwish

2004: This one has a very four piece band sound. Not a huge amount of production in this one that I can tell.

2025: Did they put some verb on Gerard? ooo cymbal, cool. Still got that four piece sound. I was worried it was gonna sound kinda hollow but I'm pleasantly surprised. Just a good hearty heavy song.

12. Cemetery Drive

2004: Double vox <3 There's a hint of Helena in the background vox, please clear that up in the remix plz

2025: Very parade-ish open with the snare and toms. Oh yeah, good lead vox. The guitars in the second verse are taking a backseat. Not only did they not clear it up, they took it away entirely??? I can't hear it at all, just these little jump ups way in the back. Absolutely criminal choice.

13. I Never Told You What I Do for a Living

2004: Alright last one. This hits me super hard at the end so I'm excited to see what happens. Love the harmonics on the guitar in the end of the chours. TIME CHANGE, BUILT THAT TENSION, LET IT DROP I TRYYYYYYYYYY Drum and bass pounding that beat, absolutely destorys me.

2025: Big ol toms woo. His growls are so prominant at the drop holy shit. Yes good Mikey love that bass. Oh the lead guitar just carries so much sorrow. So good

And just for fun, thoughts on the BBC recordings:

14. I'm Not Okay (I Promise) (BBC)

Yeah nice, real punchy, grundgy, garage band sound. They do live so well. This song has just a bunch of vocal layers in it so he has to make a lot of stylistic choices to make it work. Oh they don't cut out before the last chours they just push through.

15. Helena (BBC)

Mikey takes the intro on this one. I think Frank is doing his best on the backing vocals lol. This one def lends itself to accuracy in a live performance. Can. You. Hear. Me. Gerard def cares more about passion rather than accuracy. This sounds like it could actually be a track on Bullets. He pushes that last note out with everything he has

16. The Ghost of You (BBC)

Oh yeah, I love listening to Gerard watch his brother die in war lol. Very nice Ray slide. Gerard getting jazzy there in the second verse. It sounds more mournful here with just the melody and no harmony. Like he's the only one crying. Ew mouth noise lmao.

17. You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prision (BBC)

Yes. Fuck yes. This one is for the gays. If I can't see this irl this is gonna suffice. Gerard just knows how fun this is, they always put that one outrageously fun song on the album. He gives a very David Byrne energy in this one, like go big and dramatic and ridiculous with it. "I hope you know this will go down on your permanent record" LMAO. He makes so many different voices and sounds and I love it so much.

Okay Final Thoughts:

The compression wars are over, the remix sounds a lot more spacious and allowing of everyone to shine and create an album together instead of just being smashed into a box and turned up to 11. But I think that's also why this style doesn't sound the same as it used to, even with new bands trying to recreate older songs. It's not just the lyrics and instruments, it's the production. And producers are just making different choices than they were 20 years ago. Not good or bad, just different. I do really like tho carving out space for the vocals to shine. It helps me hear the actual words of what they're saying without looking them up every time.

There's just a few places where the absolute madness of the original mix was part of the spark that made these songs amazing. And when you clean it up and iron it out it really does lose something imo. but not enough to think the remix isn't fucking awesome, cause it is

I kinda want them to give this treatment to Bullets, but I also kinda don't? Cause this album even in 2004 was WAY more produced than Bullets was and I'd guess it's gonna make it sound a lot more different. Like, aside from it being less compressed and a few minor creative changes, this isn't too different from the original. Bullets is dirty and my inner child is saying not to clean it up. But also I would be curious to just see what they could do with it.

"uh huh... yes... yes of course... yep... okay... okay great thanks man" eddie said as he hung up the phone, turning to you with the biggest smile on his face

"good news?" you asked excitedly, moving up from your laying position on the couch, turning off the tv

"we're going on tour!" eddie screamed, jumping up and down causing you to giggle

"wait what? huh? explain!" you leaped from the couch to where he walked over to the living room

"that was our manager, he apparently talked to his buddy doc who talked to the boys of mötley crüe and said they loved our sound and our stage presence and when they go on tour they want us to open!" he explained, talking fast

your jaw dropped and you squealed, pulling him in close, wrapping your arms around his neck as you jumped and your legs wrapped around his waist

he held you close until you heard a small sniffle, and moved so you carefully landed on the ground

"eddie baby you okay?" you asked, moving a few strands of hair away from his face and wiping a tear that was falling down his cheek

he nodded and sniffled again, wiping the tears away from his face and looked at you

"i just can't believe it, i'm so happy" he admitted as you held his face gently and leaned into kiss him

as you pulled away, your brow furrowed in confusion "wait don't you need to tell the rest of the band?" you let out a small chuckle and eddie's eyes widened

"oh shit yeah thank you love you" he said, kissing you fast before running to the phone again

it was 2 weeks later and tour rehearsals were in full swing along with corroded coffin recording songs for their new album and mötley crüe doing endless press for their girls, girls, girls album that had just come out

you hadn't seen much of the boys of mötley crüe due to their heavy promo schedule, occasionally seeing vince in the studio helping eddie with some vocals, and of course, mick just appearing randomly, fueling yours and Eddie's inside joke that he truly was an alien with superpowers- reminding you of a specific girl that once escaped hawkins lab that led you to meet eddie

"god i'm just so excited for the tour!" you said excitedly, walking in between Jeff and Gareth into the rehearsal studio

eddie was stuck at the recording studio with dougie for another hour while you accompanied the boys to the rehearsal space as they deemed it necessary you be there since eddie couldn't

"me too! can you believe we're actually here and doing this?" gareth replied, matching the excitement in your voice

the three of you continued to talk as you walked through the corridors of the large building before appearing at the double doors before the room that served as the rehearsal room

you already heard Vince, singing out the last few high notes of 'dancing on glass' when the three of you walked in, standing there watching them finish up the song

once they were done, you clapped along with jeff and gareth and nikki looked at you, smiling

nikki set down his bass carefully on its stand and walked over to where you were standing

"hey stranger" he said and you felt a blush creep onto your face

"hey yourself" you replied back with a smile

"didn't know you were going to be here today" he said casually and you nodded, turning to where gareth was once standing until you realized he was in conversation with jeff and their manager steve

"yeah well eddie's stuck in the studio for another hour and the guys wanted me to come watch them rehearse so here i am" you joked and he chuckled

"well i'm very glad you got to see us perform a little bit of our song" he said

"me too, i'm excited to see it on stage in a month when tour starts" you admitted, tucking your hair behind your ear while nikki gave you a confused look

"wait are you coming with us?" he asked and you nodded

"uh yeah i'm staying with eddie for the entire tour" you smiled and he did a slow nod and pursed his lips

"good to know" he said with a smirk when you heard tommy yell "sixx! we're doing girls now!"

"that's my cue... maybe you should stick around and watch us play, i'm very good at doing girls" he winked at you before turning around and walking back to where his bass sat

it didn't click until you heard the intro to their hit girls girls girls, that you understood the joke and for a second you felt stupid before you realized that nikki was hitting on you again... was he always this persistent with every other girl he's ever slept with? not like it mattered anyways, you were with eddie, and the happiest you've ever been

before you can fathom another thought about nikki, talking to you, the door swung open, and you saw eddie and dougie, walking in with smiles plastered on their faces

eddie immediately walked up to you and gave you the biggest kiss and wrapped his arms around you

"hey you still had like half an hour left before you had to be here?" you questioned with a laugh and he pulled back to look at you

"it's crazy, i just was able to sing every perfect note with the right amount of energy and dougie just knew the exact notes of what to play to help me and it was like everything just clicked and we finally nailed it, so now i can watch the rest of their rehearsal with you" he smiled, lacing your finger together

your heard the drums starting up along with the guitars and bass, and took eddie to one of the couches facing the set up as vince started singing

you've heard this song at least a thousand times, and you liked it too, but as you were sitting with eddie's arm around you, half your back leaned into his chest, it was hard to watch them perform with nikki's eyes fixed on you

this might be a long tour... you thought to yourself

the past week had been a blur with traveling all up and down the east coast, but you were finally in New York City, after a month into the tour

you were hanging out in the dressing room while corroded coffin did their sound check

you heard their songs being played in a row so many times within the past month that you took the opportunity to hang out in the dressing room and get a moment to yourself

you had just flipped, open a new magazine, and lay down on one of the plush couches in the room when there is a knock at the door, and before you could even get up to answer it, it was none other than Nikki walking into the room

"oh shit hey sorry didn't know you were in here" he laughed, attempting to turn around to walk out when you got up

"oh, no, it's fine, i just needed a break from everything, god this tour has been so hectic... i don't even know how you can put up with it all" you joked and he chuckled

"with this my dear" he laughed and pulled out a small bottle that you immediately recognized

"ah yeah right" you said, awkwardly smiling at him as he sat down at the table across from you

you aren't uncomfortable with drugs, as your boyfriend used to be a dealer back when you two were in high school but you've never actually seen anyone snort anything right in front of you

"want some?" he asked as he set it up on the table and you shook your head

"no thanks i'm good" you said as he took out a card from his pocket

he did his business and as his head came up, he looked at you, his eyes looking straight into yours

"what?" you asked, secretly praying that he wasn't somehow going to just OD right in front of you with how long he was staring at you before he finally spoke, which calmed your nerves

"i don't know why the fuck i can't stop thinking about you, but jesus christ i've fucked every girl i wanted, and yet you're still on my mind..." he said, fiddling with the card in his hand

you looked at him with raised eyebrows before you finally found the courage to speak again

"oh wow uhm... that's blunt" you choked out

"i'm that type of guy" he said before taking in another line

"listen nikki-"

"god even the way you say my name is so hot" he breathed out and you found yourself blushing yet again at his words

"i will admit years ago before i met eddie... i had the biggest crush on you and yes if i wasn't in the the most amazing loving relationship with eddie and these were all different circumstances, then it probably would've happened, but that's not what's going on and honestly, i highly doubt you'll even remember this conversation in a few hours" you finally said as he just stared at you

the tension was so thick you could chop it with an ax, and it would still be there, but eventually he leaned up from a seat, and took another line before falling back into his chair

"if i could turn back time" he started to sing and you let out a laugh

"if i could find a way" he continued

"oh now you're gonna try and seduce me with cher?" you joked and he let out a laugh

"no just manifesting i build a time machine and go back in time" he said, staring at the ceiling

"you know, for someone who likes to sleep around and not commit or come off as anything more than being a sexual partner to the opposite sex, you do have very romantic words" you admitted with a laugh and he shook his head with a smile

"i think tommy and his stupid hopeless romanticness is rubbing off on me" he laughed and you smiled

you heard cheers and screams from outside your door when it burst open to see a very wet corroded coffin barging into the room

"oh my god babe it started raining when we were outside on the stage and so after we finished up the last song we ran around on the grass and it was the most amazing thing!" eddie yelled walking to you and shaking his hair like a wet dog

"agh! babe!" you squealed with a laugh as he went to pick you up

you turned to run so he wouldn't pick you up to get you all wet but as you did, you fell right into nikki who was getting up

you landed on him he sat in the chair, your bum pressed against his crotch perfectly

"shit sorry!" you said, scrambling to get up

"don't ever apologize for getting this close to me" he quickly whispered, looking into your eyes before you got up, looking at eddie who had his head flipped over as he dried his long hair with a towel

"see you tonight boys! have a good show!" nikki yelled before giving you one last glance and headed out the door

it was an hour before showtime, and you sat with Eddie on the small loveseat in the dressing room, pretending to be in your own little bubble before you had to share your boyfriend with the rest of the world well the rest of the boys were trying to hype each other up and blasting the radio

you ended up telling him about everything that happened with nikki that day, and you sat there feeling guilty for no reason when eddie grabbed your hand and locked his fingers with yours

"y/n there's no reason to feel bad, i'm just thankful o have a girlfriend that's loyal enough to me that when nikki sixx is hitting on her, she doesn't cave, especially when you had the biggest crush on him... i love you and i trust you and just know that nothing you do will ever change that for me" he said, looking at you, bringing his other hand up to gently stroke your cheek

"i love you too eds" you said, immediately feeling better, and you wrapped your arms around his neck and the two of you switched positions so you could lay down together

"and honestly if you're feeling uncomfortable, i have no problem fighting him, he'll probably be too doped up to even realize he's in a fight" he joked causing you to laugh

"thanks but babe have you ever actually won a fight outside DnD?" you questioned and his face dropped into an expression of confusion and thinking

"uh not technically, well this one time-" you cut him off by kissing him and the second you pulled away, you could see the enamoration and love he has for you wash over his face

"when do we stop in Vegas?" you asked and he looked away for a moment as he thought about the schedule

"uh maybe like 2 weeks from tomorrow i think our show is there? why?" he asked and you smiled

"i think we should get married" you said as a smile grew on eddie's face

"you want to elope?" he asked and you nodded

"the whole nikki thing made me further realize that the only man i ever want to be with for the rest of my life is you eds, and i think it'll be romantic just the two of us together"

"sounds like a plan" he said ecstatically, kissing you

"wait what about nancy? didn't you and her already start planning wedding stuff, aren't you each others maids of honor or something?" eddie asked you once you pulled away

"what she doesn't know can't hurt her" you joked

soon enough, it was time for the boys to go on stage, and you kissed Eddie one last time before he ran from the side of the stage into the center as the music started to play

you had just finished corroded coffin's set and were in the middle of watching mötley crüe's set, standing in the private section of the crowd to catch a couple of their songs before you headed back to the tour bus

"this next one goes out to someone in particular, hope you know i remembered the conversation babe" nikki said as the beginning of 'you're all i need' started to play

you looked at eddie, who was looking right at you and you both let out a small laugh, knowing about the conversation you had with nikki earlier and how you believed that he wouldn't even realize what he said till just now

"you know i love this song" you joked as you moved his arms around your waist and yours around his neck

you were pulled in close to eachother, enjoying the song as you stared into each others eyes and stealing kisses from eachother, feeling like the only two people in the arena

"yeah, i know you" he smiled

"you could probably write a better ballad that's all about me" you said and eddie shook his head with a smile

"don't you think nikki will be upset i'll have my own personal love song dedicated to only you as your wonderful, soon to be husband?" eddie said with a laugh and you let out a chuckle

🌿✨ Manifestation Diary #1: If We Were a Movie Method (How I Went to My First BTS Concert for Free & Manifested a Mini Fortune?) 🎬🕯️

Okay babes, gather 'round for a story because this one's a little magical, a little chaotic, and very much proof that this method I created back in high school still holds power. The “If We Were a Movie” Method, and this post is your official welcome to my manifestation diary 🪄

Let’s time travel for a sec:

It was 2015. I had just graduated high school. BTS was starting to rise in the U.S. and by 2016/2017, they were doing their first American tour. Now, back when I was 15, I came up with this manifestation method where I’d basically pretend my life was a movie. I’d act out scenes, talk to the “audience,” and build the storyline as if the things I wanted were already happening.

So when BTS announced that tour… you know I was manifesting my little heart out. Problem was: no stops in New York or Jersey (where I live), and I couldn’t travel out of state because I was staying with my grandma full time while attending school nearby. She was sick and I was helping care for her, so I wasn’t going anywhere far. It really seemed impossible.

But I kept going. Kept visualizing. Kept talking like I already went. Kept telling myself it was happening. I even started casually mentioning things like “I can't wait to use my army bomb!” or “I’m totally getting a Jungkook picket.”

Then boom.

They announce Citi Field. A stop added near the end of their tour.

Then my aunt (who I was trying to convert to K-pop lol) randomly says: “Do you want to go to a BTS concert with me? My treat your Christmas present.” Me: 😭 YES, OBVIOUSLY.

So we went.

I screamed. I cried. I had the time of my life.

To this day, I still have my original lightstick (it’s dead, but the memories live). And the picket. And the Suga premium photo from LY:SY.

I kept using this method. And suddenly I’m going to concerts constantly BTS (again), SuperM (yes, I met LSM randomly that night??), TXT (twice during Sugar Rush Ride), Stray Kids, TWICE (twice!), Aespa, NCT Dream, etc.

And the wild part? I didn’t pay for most of them.

Sometimes the tickets were gifted.

Sometimes they were weirdly glitched (double-booked!) and we’d get upgraded for free.

Sometimes we’d think “we’re not going, it’s too expensive,” and then someone would magically offer extra seats or we’d find a deal at the last minute.

✨My favorite upgrade moment? TXT: we saw them two nights in a row and BOTH times we got bumped to better seats due to mixups. TWICE? Same thing accidental upgrade and surprise dirt-cheap tix dropped after we thought it was hopeless.

But the biggest, wildest manifestation I ever pulled in with this method?

🎁 An unexpected small inheritance.

A distant family member passed someone I barely knew and I ended up inheriting close to $100K. I used it to relocate, build my dream K-pop album collections (IU, SHINee, BTS, BoA, NCT Dream—you know how it is), invest in skincare and self-care, and save.

And this was around 2021/2022 while I was still living with my grandma during her final year. I was able to take care of her while also building a soft little foundation for myself. It didn’t feel like magic it felt like alignment.

🕯️ The way I do the “If We Were a Movie” Method isn’t complicated. I just talk like it’s already happening. And I always talk to Aphrodite & Nyx like they’re in the room sipping tea with me. Like:

“Hi, my goddesses hope you’re doing well. I just got that new gloss I was eyeing…”

I speak like I’m in the movie of my life. It makes the universe fall in line like a perfectly written plot.

side note: with all these mashups and reuniting sister eras and mismatched 1989 outfits, does anyone think we’re getting multiple sister albums, or maybe the sister albums will be revealed in some way? like the reputation costume appears to be missing half of the outfit... I still need to formulate my thoughts on this

Ah yes! I am finally ready!

Cas's Review of TTPD that Two (2) People Asked For (so now you all get a fucking essay)

Literally, this is growing to be one of my favorite albums. Like...I appreciate Taylor most for her lyrics and I wrote down seven pages of them in my notebook of lyrics that fucking killed me. I feel like it's a more mature version of folklore, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

I really liked the promo for this album- the lyrics being spread, the phases of grief, the entire thing was so well-done. And the double album drop left me literally screaming.

I feel like the order of the songs on the album is also super well thought out. It really tells a story and I could feel her going through the phases, especially in the first half of the album.

I thought it was cool that she definitely took some risks in the album, but most of them landed 1000%. So many of the cool things done with the lyrics, melody, and tempo were amazing and kept me interested.

I'm gonna start by listing the more specific things I didn't like because there's only three:

In the song "Fresh Out The Slammer" during the outro, the change in beat was very jarring. I LOVED the rest of the song and it just ruined it for me

Florida!!! was...a choice. I get it. The concept of going away somewhere after a breakup to get over it is great. But Florida? Like...c'mon. Also "fuck me up Florida" made me cringe.

The line in "I Hate It Here" about racists...god, I have two minds about it. I don't think there was winning with that one, and I think people are going to tear her apart for it without taking it in context. Like when you take it in the bigger picture of the song, it makes sense. But when you take it in just the few lines...it feels a bit like it's trivializing the fact that literal slavery existed during that time? So yeah. I go back and forth...

And now a song ranking and my feelings about some of the songs:

Guilty As Sin? - This song has been in my head ever since I heard it. It's perfect, it's everything.

I Can Do It With a Broken Heart - This is giving DBATC (favorite taylor song) vibes and I am so in love. It destroyed me.

Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? - This is an ANTHEM. This will be screamed in the shower. This is so powerful.

But Daddy I Love Him - This was just so nostalgic. Like it gave Fearless Taylor and I loved it so much. Also the jumpscare fucking SHOOK me.

So Long, London - This was like a companion to You're Losing Me and god, it was amazingly hurtful.

loml - I just love slow, sad Taylor. and the twist at the end? ugh

A few months ago, the combination of discovering a rai playlist on Spotify based on an artist I listen to with friends and another discovery of a radio station that exclusively plays north african and middle eastern music, the latter which became my go-to listen on the way from work for a while, I discovered this specific track. It's a huge niche hit, unknown to the general public but racking up in the millions of views online among fans of the genre and it's easy to see why! This is an absolutely hypnotic track which cleverly layers it's intrument with a catchy sung melody, periodically cut by the rythmic choir repeating its title. The main singer in the dialog has an outstanding voice and this all makes for a looping, hooking listening experience that makes you want to play it forever.

Twilight of the Thunder God

In a very different vibe, we have a track that perfectly matches it's overdesigned, historically based (yet inaccurate) cheesy madness of an album cover. This is the only song if this band I'm familiar with as a big hit. Power metal is among some of my favorite genres of music of all time, especially in it's overbearing energy and gratuitous use of double-pedals on the kick drum, fast bass and general theatrics. While I'm not a fan of growled vocals, this track compensates in my mind with one of THE catchiest hooks I know of in the genre. When I listen to TofTG, it's because I suddently remember it one day and get instantly compelled to download it on my phone and scream its lyrics at the sky until it leaves my head where it's stuck. This can take weeks...

What's Golden

Yet another radio discovery! I'm shamefully bad at hiphop, despite liking the genre a lot, no-one around me listened to it for ages so I don't have similar backlog as in other genres and as such as a grown adult am discovering it all with enthusiasm. This song sums up so many aspects I love in the genre which i'll definitly be using to nail what specific sub-genres are my favorite some day... catchy with a great flow and an instrumental that hooks you, it's impossible to not nod along to the beat and drop what I'm doing to listen to the full thing when it comes up on my playlist.

Sledgehammer

Yeah yeah it's a classic you all know it. And for a reason! This is one of, if not the only song I know which I can't separate from it's music video. I typically dislike MVs and prefer listening to music in pure audio format, but Sledgehammer comes with such a well crafted, wlel synched and creative film attached that it's always playing in my head when I hear it. This song was introduced to me by a mutual a few years ago which I'll be tagging in this post later as a thank you! I don't get its appeal as a dancey song, but it's definitly a track to dramatically walk to, which is probably the appeal the rest of this site sees in Once in a Lifetime...

The first thing that strikes me in this track is how loud the bass is - it turns the classic rock instrumental it's made from into something else that's just slightly overwhelming. And on top of that, very delicate vocals detail a raw, simple story of love and addiction. Where I chose this song above the many others of the band I'd been listening to a lot last month is this particular theme it has fits very well with a book series I'm reading right now, and it was easy for me to let my mind fly away with it on...:)

I was wondering how you started making music? your albums along with underscores have been my favorites for the past year and I think itd be cool to learn how you started :3

always grew up around it — my mom loves telling the story of how i couldn’t sleep unless there was a song playing on cassette tape (hashtag 90s baby) and i’d wake up screaming when the tape stopped lol

i started playing piano at age 7 but i think the thing that really cinched my path was when i began taking lessons with a guy named Glen Fisher. Glen was our version of Jack Black in school of rock, a longtime working musician with a loose style and sense of humor whose approach entailed putting different kids together in bands in order to teach them how to love music as a social activity. not only did i learn a ton of songs that would go on to inform my style, but also gained an extremely valuable skillset that i pull from every day. i know how to communicate ideas to other musicians, how to jam and improvise, and the etiquette necessary to land and maintain a gig. the main reason i wanna win a grammy or something one of these days is so i can thank Glen on a public stage and let people know that this man is the heart and soul of so much music to come out of San Diego. there are many other extremely dope artists (nuffer, sahara grim, back to the shed, dark dazey, crystal rose) that have also emerged from his tutelage and we collectively owe our whole life path to him putting us all together.

in terms of producing music, when i dropped out of college and started my former band Fashion Jackson we wanted to be able to release music quickly and decisively. i was the one most keen on learning the trade, so i took it upon myself to figure out Logic out of sheer necessity.

all this is to say that i think music education is SO FUCKING IMPORTANT!!!!! my peers and i were fortunate enough to have lessons with Glen within our means as kids, but as budget cuts further siphon arts funding from public schools i find myself constantly hurting for all the kids with double the talent and drive i have, who will have to overcome many more obstacles in order to chase this dream. hopefully if i keep busting ass i’ll be in a position to give back to my community and clear the way a little bit!

look to windward - ok some synths. nice. "war of attrition" mentioned. his voice sounds slightly distorted and different in a way but I can't completely pinpoint it. can I say these synths remind me of undertale? oh what's happening here is that a processed vocal layer? interesting production. it is sounding increasingly orchestral. it's building, it's building.. he's screaming!! oh this breakdown riff FUCKS. this is so good holy shit. rap verse. melody change I love this. PIANO PART this song has it all (+ slight vocoder?) and it's heavy again! BREAKDOWN II OMG it's more of a straightforward one this time. and ii is going at the double kick. fav

emergence (single) - I wish I was in a hail shower again like the first time tbqh that was quite nice. as a chronic single earphone user it's nice to hear all the details with both ears for once. I will do the stereo surround sound experience with this album at some point the first time I did it with erra changed me. gabi rose you will always be famous

past self - it's bubbly? wind chimes? this song is marked explicit? oh ok I get it it's a rappy one. it's a vibe though. something here reminds me of patrick stump. huge fan of the percussion thank you ii.

dangerous - haunting intro. this feels like the type of song booktok would appropriate. it feels like it's calling back to "are you really okay?" for a section here. I really like this one.

caramel (single) - it feels bouncier this time idk

even in arcadia - that piano piece! I like how this has been produced, from the piano and vocals to all the additional layers it's huge. he sounds *pissed*. is that a cello?

provider - so the pronunciation of "provider" just threw me off okay. this is a little weird but we vibe. didn't think I'd hear someone ever singing about the ICU but sure. and here are the guitars. not my favourite but it's good.

damocles (single) - might be the hugest sleep token chorus methinks.

gethsemane - falsetto + a vocal effect I can't place. it feels heartbreaking. is this a little math rock? interesting. the way they've structured this section reminds me of tmbte. and now we have a thall invent animate riff. there's a trap beat... he's rapping again. took a while to get back into it but it's alright I guess.

infinite baths - it's slow. this is nice I hope it doesn't go dark. I like the contrasting leads here, between the vocal and synth. it went dark :/ it's going darker this is like double double drop z or something. it's also never ending. atmosphere layers are fitting.

I need like three weeks to fully digest this album I think
