you didn't have to go this far, you thought; sulking inside your room all while burying yourself in the mountains of blankets, comfying and comforting yourself, spam liking each and every post on your feed with rage imbued within your thumb while the other kittenish—sharkish little guy with his snuggle tooth peeking out whenever he smiles was probably out there roaming around looking for snacks.

but who cares right? who cares what he's up to? when he doesn't care what you're up to either anyway?

it just so happens when after throwing on the new pretty dress you bought—you giddily hopped to where he was—currently playing video games all while yelling at his poor teammates for messing up, specifically maki.

okay, maybe it was your fault for interrupting him but all you ask was a three-second attention and what was his opinion on the dress but how can he be so mean? "oh god, not you too (name), the dress suckass. get it?—maki! i told you to not spawn there you motherf—"

so here you are now not bothering to change into your pyjamas, so deep in your thought that you were unaware of the slow creak of the bedroom door, and the boy quietly slipping in through like a kitten on his paws, climbing on top of the bed.

you only realise it by the spot close to you deepening, signifying that he was close. and you didn't care any less to get out of your 'tent'. it was silent for a few moments, fiddling his hands and all before he place his palms on your covered form, "pretty, you okay?"

you weren't supposed to answer but the pet name somehow triggered you, in a bad way, of course. "p-pretty? now i am pretty? why don't you go back to your pretty game, pretty keyboard, or whatever it's called—"

you didn't get to continue your words when you got pushed deep into the bed, yuma's weight on top of yours as he mumbled, "okay, okay, i'm sorry. i know i was too mean—" you didn't have to see his face to know he was pouting, his arms wrapped around your waist as he held you tight. "forgive me please?"

"never— ah!" you let out a yelp when the blankets were pulled off your body, closing your eyes immediately with your hands but even that were yanked away by the boy who's right in front of you, his face leaning a few inches from yours—causing a light blush to dust off your cheeks. "get off!"

you pushed him off causing him to fell off the bed, a few exaggerated "ouch" emitted from him. "so mean."

"not like what you did to me exactly three hours ago, sorry not sorry, it's past the deadline."

"excuse me, there's even a deadline?" his jaw dropped as he rubbed his back, getting on top of the bed again. you ignored him with a glare and a pout, crossing your arms despite how he look so damn cute with his messy hair.

"whyyyy? am i not your little baby shark or baby snuggle tooth anymore?" okay, that's a foul. he shouldn't be doing that, but he's so good at it as he leans closer, placing his elbows on top of your blanket-covered knees, resting his chin on his palms as he pouted—his signature snuggle tooth peeking out.

"you little menace. that's not how you ask for forgiveness??"

"but it won't work if i don't you show my tooth! isn't that your weakness? am i not your weakness?"

"no get out!"

"i'll even give you my tooth if you want!" "i don't want your tooth! that's gross—"

"then what about me?"

"not a little menace like you." you let that out in a rather small voice, though. of course, you two knew better than that despite all the banters and stuff.

"whatever you say," yuma continued with a satisfied smile as his hands pulled off the blankets completely from you—revealing the dress you've wanted so bad to show him earlier. "it's pretty, but you already know you look pretty with anything, yeah?"

a few beats of silence surfaces in the air, but you eventually snorted "horrible pick up line! learn from nicholas or fuma, yeah?"

"they're not even good at it!—"

"well, atleast they're not gold at being a little meanie menace like you!"

"who says? nicho hyung is menace too! you just didn't see it, duh" yuma retorted, "besides, they don't have this—" pointing his index finger towards his tooth peeking from the top corner of his lips, "now, watch me do this. nyah, nyah!" to your huge shock, he imitated a kitten's gesture, forming his hands into a paw as he tried so hard to make you giggle, singing a random kitten song and replacing it with apologetic lyrics.

you were about to burst into laughter but you held it in, but goddamn your stomach were about to explode as the boy won't stop with his kitten agenda.

"oh god— can't you laugh? i'm sacrificing my reputation right here, i can't let see kei hyung or maki sees this or they'll humiliate me for life—" yuma almost look like a draining line sticker drifting off the air, but continued afterwards.

"tch," you scoffed, but you could no longer hold it as you laughed so hard, and oh boy, did he loved the sight in front of him. "you silly menace."

How do you keep motivated to write something ?

There is more than one answer!

To be honest with myself: I don’t. If I don’t finish in a week or so it is consigned to WIP hell when I look at every few weeks/ months change the title muck around with the opening and write a random scene. Then one day there is a pic spam and I finish : see Flyboys.

I don’t: I write the fun bits all disjoined and ugly and with whole paragraphs of underlined ramblings as drunky my auto correct elf hides under his blanket and then when I have meetings at work I idily go through add the “joining up bits” and rewrite the opening 109 times and search for a title: see siphon the gold from your blood.

I don’t: I have maybe 20 WIP. Sometimes I enjoy something I started (and that I wrote the opening off) so much that I pick my latest fave player find and replace the name and write the bits to join the random ideas up. I have football fics that predate whole ass children being born.

I don’t: I sometimes have a great idea. And I write it on the spiritual plane. Like the Jobe /Lewis Mikey fic. It has a title! I have re-written many times on the spiritual plane.

I plow through by leaving increasingly deranged nonsense natterings and pic spams (and apparently flat out lies even though at the time they were my intentions!) see: I remember Everything. - I posted a pic of Pep giving Jack Grealish a kiss on the cheek and insisted nothing more graphic than that. And… if you have read chapter three you know that is a total misrepresentation.

I just wrote it in a week and I enjoy it so I don’t need motivation : sleep on the floor.

I promise it to someone, or I post snippets to @underwater-i-will-go or @longeyelashedtragedy are actually frequently the target of “I should be sleeping moments” and I guilt finish it. Sorry you two!

And I have free time (since I only have one job and my kids aren’t a constant walking request for snacks) so I can idly write the fun bits then set a timer to write the joining yo the fun bits.

And I don’t have a time consuming video game I’m playing so “screen” time tends to be reading or writing.

And I literally just stop writing things all the time. I am very good at openings!

Lynn’s Bionicle Media Looking-At Thing Part 7: Glatorian Arena Is Where I First Heard Of Unity

Also before I start, I am writing these after I've first played each one. If something gets fixed or made worse in a later game, it will be brought up in that game's description.

Glatorian Arena 1

I don't like this game. Sorry about how negative the last few of these posts have been.

So basically Glatorian Arena is a Bionicle fighting game, which sounds like it would be cool! But it kinda isn't. I haven't played it, but there's a Star Wars PS1 fighting game that I saw in an Ashens video like 2 years ago, and it looked pretty similar, so I guess if you like Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi, then you should play Glatorian Arena.

So you start in this room. Initially only Gresh is unlocked, but you can enter codes from the 2009 sets to unlock the other wave 1 Glatorian. You may notice this screenshot is tiny; that's because the game can't be played in widescreen.

Achievements Bionicle Awards

An achievement menu. The gold icons in the top-right corner kinda remind me of Bionicle Heroes, which is kinda neat I guess? It kinda says something that the only achievements I have unlocked are the ones for the non-combat part of the game (more on that later).

RPG Stuff Character Sheet

Yeah, this game has RPG mechanics! I have no experience points so I can't demonstrate. Also I swear the + and - icons are almost the same as the ones in Clash: Artifacts Of Chaos, but I can't be bothered to check.

Character Select/Character Unlock

Ok so when you start the pillar next to your character is empty and gains little character symbols as you unlock them, but I wanted to unlock every character so I did that. Thankfully the "enter code" window still comes up. Different characters have different stats, but that doesn't really help. Clicking the symbols changes your character to the corresponding one.

Help

It's just a keyboard mapping menu, with other images explaining the gameplay (which may or may not be the ones that show up before playing).

Settings

You can rebind your keys in this game, which I did. Also the quality control is nice, and from this point onwards every screenshot will be on the highest quality because it's 2024 and my computer can handle it.

The Actual Games

Yeah, this game is actually two (technically three) games!

Challenge Game is the main attraction. You can walk backwards and forwards and rotate around the arena, and do light, heavy and ranged attacks. There are a few problems; the Thornax can hit any enemy, regardless of height. The hit detection is kinda ass, so you can't reliably hit your enemy. You can apparently parry, but while the enemies definitely do it sometimes, you can only block. Enemies can spam their attacks constantly. You move really slowly. I could go on. I did manage to win a round while getting the screenshots for this post, but it's painful otherwise.

Spikeball is like. A sports thing? And it's painful. If an opponent so much as touches you, you have to spam the spacebar to keep the ball, which you probably won't because there's like a little gauge that pushes against you at a rate that makes it almost impossible to succeed, and you can escape a ball-grab only for another Skrall to grab your ball and yes that was meant to sound kinda suggestive.

The last "game" is Outskirts Area, where you just. Walk around slowly and do dialogue trees with Agori. That's it. There's no gameplay or shops. This is where all my achievements (when I wrote that section, at least) came from. They're just the ones you get for talking to everyone.

The dialogue doesn't even change if you play as someone else.

Glatorian Arena 2

Ok this one is basically the same as the first, but with the wave 2 characters. However, there is stuff worth talking about. Spikeball is out, and has been replaced by the ability to refight every opponent from the first game if you talk to every Agori and beat the second set of "main" opponents (according to Biosector, at least).

Also the Outskirts have been replaced by the Dwellings, which looks like this. The dialogue is also different, and when I talked to Berix, one of his dialogue options was locked, which means there might be even more RPG mechanics. Yay.

Glatorian Arena 3

So a thing I found out while downloading the games for this post was that Glatorian Arena 3 was only released as an unfinished version via BZPower, so this one might be different.

This one ran from an installer rather than being an executable in a zip, which is. Interesting. Also I'm writing this one as I navigate for fun.

Right off the bat, this one is different. For one, it's fullscreen, and the startup menu has more options; the original one has a pulsing "Play Game" option, but this has options for a new game, quick play, and even multiplayer!

There's even a difficulty select, which is cool!

... oh. It's even more limited. You don't even have to unlock anyone, you can just freely flip through characters.

You can't even explore the outside area. It's just the normal arena fighting gameplay.

Well this was disappointing. Sorry. Next time will hopefully be more interesting.

I am EXTREMELY selective when it comes to OC interactions and strongly prefer to roleplay with canon characters. It’s nothing personal, I’ve just had a lot of mundane interactions with them in the past. I will absolutely not interact with self inserts either. Sorry, they just don’t interest me in the slightest. Canon muses will always get priority.

Mary Sues and overpowered characters aren’t welcome here. No character is perfect and the plot can get boring if your character is portrayed to have no flaws or weaknesses.

Don’t control my muse ever unless you’re writing the starter and have to say what my muse is doing for it. It’s so annoying.

You can never have too many threads! I don’t care how many we have, keep them coming. If you have an idea you want to try, feel free to throw it my way regardless of how many we already have. In saying that, please don’t expect me to write you more threads if you haven’t responded to ones I’ve already written in the past.

It's been a bit since the last one of these I did. But I figured I'd give you guys one last pre-Housesnared progress update, before I leave for Lent as per usual.

1. I'm sorry. I've been making promises and saying I have stuff planned, but I haven't actually proven it. Half cuz I don't wanna spoil anything, half cuz I'm excited and I wanna talk about this, half cuz my executives are still dysfunctioning. (Yes, that's three halves. I am large; I contain multitudes.)

I was looking at this project Adam Cadre made (he's the guy who runs the Little Lytton contest, and he also made a bunch of interactive fiction. Also, Wikipedia Brown) (the project itself is really cool. It's a graphical representation of how common a given name is in any given generation.), and in one of the notes he tacked on, about why he made the project, he says, quote:

One of the things that always irked me back in my days writing interactive fiction was when people would post, “Hey, everyone, I’m planning to write a game that does such and so!”  Like… cool, so do it.  Don’t write a post telling us about something you haven’t even started.

Which... yeah. It's great to have an idea, and it's great to share it, but it's even better to act on the idea, to make it tangible. (Insert ill-timed and protracted diatribe on the failings of copyright law here.)

Unfortunately, I am prone to Not Get Stuff Done Disease. And that brings me to...

2. The excellent @madam-melon-meow has kindly granted me her assistance in terms of project management and betareading! I met M^3 through a Homestuck fanauthor Discord server she runs (here's the Tumblr), and she mentioned she liked doing project management, and now I'm spamming our DMs with sprite edits and she is being very tolerant of my inanity.

(Please read her things. She is very talented.)

"But why are you doing this, meow (both of you)?" you may be asking. "Why get/be a project manager for a fanventure that's not going to release any time soon?"

3. I'm posting the first pages on April 8th. M^3 is holding me to that, and I'm holding me to that, and the HSFAC is holding me to that, and now I'm having you all hold me to that, and I'm steadily plugging away at getting ready for Housesnared to finally friggin' launch.

It's been four and a half years since I had the initial concept. A little over four years since I started this blog. And I've done nothing but sit on the idea and turn the screw for the past four years.

I have ideas. I think they're cool, and I think you may like them. And I want to share them with you.

Why not start now? The time will pass anyways.

...oh, one more thing. I'm not going to change the blog URL again because I don't wanna break any more links, but now this AU is called the Eta Timeline. Partly because Homestuck works on more of a timeline than universe basis, partly because it just sounds better imho.

That's probably the most insane part of the whole livestream, ngl. It's so embarrassing for every single person who ever said "they can't give us a skip button, the story is so important!" because I guess it really isn't. Inazuma, Sumeru and Fontaine are all extremely unimportant, to the point that Genshin is actively pushing you to just not do them.

That's three years of content. And from what I can tell, they're not letting you pick which chapter you play when. It's just NATLAN NOW that's getting this treatment. Like, what the actual fresh hell...

Practically the only things in the livestream that aren't just NATLAN NOW are the usual login rewards for anni and the standard banner selector. Which is its own complaint post, but it's honestly such a joke that I can't stop rolling my eyes.

I really do not know what kind of metrics they are getting that they went this crazy route and so hard.

Well, praying that they keep screwing around. Maybe it'll finally be enough to make me quit.

So I was listening to nabillera by Hyuna and I had this image of a roommate au

So basically everyone at the age of 18 in college is given a roommate and reader who is a famous gamer has a little crush ( Osamu ) and he just so happens to be their roommate-

Osamu Miya likes to pride himself on a lot of things. He likes to pride himself that he’s good at cooking, that he has a strong will and that his determination to be the best version of himself cannot be matched. He also likes to pride himself over the fact that he beat his twin in almost every single Super Smash Bros match they played.

He’d say he’s pretty good at that game.

That was until he met you. You were just supposed to be a simple, average college student that ended up being his roommate… you were also apparently a famous twitch streamer, he had forgotten what you told him your username was, but what he was quick to learn was that you were ridiculously good at playing games — one of those being Super Smash Bros ( who could blame you? It was a really popular game! ).

It started with little jabs at each other about who was truly the best gamer. “I’d totally wreck your ass with someone as small as Kirby.” You’d tell him cockily, leaving him to squint his eyes at you, offering a sarcastic scoff in return. Then it continued to small challenges; bets on who would be cooking dinner that night, or who would clean up the dorm you both were assigned to depending on whoever won the usual set of ‘best of three’. Thing is, Osamu always lost. He swore he was losing hair at the rate by which you consistently beat him level by. Stupid. Level.

As of now, it was an almost nightly thing; a game night, if you would. You and your roommate sat on the carpeted floor, backs resting on the sofa behind you as your fingers mashed at the buttons and joystick on your controllers. “come on come on come onnnn—FUCK!!” The dark haired male cried out as you cackled triumphantly, “No— I can’t believe this— shut up _________ stop laughing!!” he whined, tossing a couch pillow at you. “Ha… I’m — I’m sorry Samu~” you choked out between giggles, “you don’t look very sorry.” He grumbled, putting down his controller and getting up to make dinner — again.

“But I ammmmm!” You announced from where you were still seated to your shared kitchen, “You know I love you~” you teased, not realising that as you got up and headed to your room to stream, you failed to notice the bright red blush Osamu was sporting at your nonchalant comment.

Osamu knew you were streaming, that most likely meant you had your headphones on and wouldn’t hear him knocking — so he didn’t, it wasn’t like he was barging in on anything bad anyways, your webcam was placed away from the door so he wouldn’t be in frame when he entered. Time for some payback. He decided, taking your plate of red roe onigiri on the corner of your desk, “Dinner is served my love~” he declared cheekily, holding a raised brow at your flustered expression before heading out of the room seemingly unbothered.

You swore your face was flaming. It didn’t help that your chat was graciously spamming you with questions about what they all had just heard clear as day:

‘Omg do you have a boyfriend??’

‘Who was that guy? ;)’

‘Show us the boyfriend!!’

God… you were somewhat thankful your face was only half in frame as you politely declined answering all the questions you could read while they zipped by, reasoning that it was a ‘private matter you would attend to later on’ ; it seemed to calm them down for the time being, but knowing your fan base, it would be maybe about a few days? ( maybe hours?? ) before conspiracy theories and edits and the like would be posted about you on every social media platform.

That night you ended your stream with your face in your hands; a silent groan escaping you as you pouted at the empty plate on your desk. The food was amazing, it always was, but you couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty for always forcing Osamu to cook for you — even if he lost fair and square. Truth be told, you’ve liked the guy, ever since you saw him and his twin, Atsumu, and you were beyond excited ( and nervous ) when you heard that you two would be bunking together for the rest of your final semester.

Your comment about loving him slipped out so easily it kinda scared you even, everything felt so…domestic from the beginning; whether that’d be Osamu cooking dinners amongst other meals for you, or you helping out with the cleaning and tidying whenever he was away at practice. He was probably joking when he said what he said, “A taste of your own medicine”, he’d say. The next day, the both of you pretended nothing happened. It felt like a dream of some sort, but you swear it was a real happening that occurred.

A couple weeks pass and you frown when you see the takeout container in Osamu’s hand. “No game-night tonight?” You frown deeper, giving him the biggest puppy eyes you could to trick him into giving in; but your roommate held his stance. “Nope. I hate to admit it, but I’m tired of you beating me over and over again; hell, we even played so many different games and I still lost!” A tiny grin breaks its way out of your grumpy facade, causing him to smile too, “Stop it~! I can’t believe the great ____________ is bullying me~!” he cries dramatically, throwing an arm over his eyes for effect; you giggle.

“I wouldn’t have to if you weren’t so bad at literally every single game Samu.” There’s a challenge in your voice, and even though the younger twin is tired of losing, he still was too stubborn to back down from such an obvious invitation. “Name your price.” He countered, a sharp glint in his eyes you couldn’t have mistaken for anything other than determination. “It’s up to the winner,” You shrug, turning your back to him as you begin to head to your room, “a game of chicken.” and with that, you smile knowingly, shutting your door behind you and leaving a stunned Osamu Miya frozen for a good amount of time.

This was by far the worst game of chicken you had ever encountered.

It started with the both of you throwing in occasional flirty comments and pet names here and there, careful not to overdo it in case it got too expected — which it did, so you had to step up your game. You moved onto subtle, feather-like fleeting touches that would drive your usually unphasable roommate crazy; purposely brushing up against him when you needed to get something in your ridiculously tiny kitchen, or making sure to bump shoulders with him every game night you guys had, saying it was ‘mini-sabotage’.

Osamu too, stepped up his game after that. Randomly cooking your favourite foods for meals other than dinner ( those meals were exclusively reserved for times he wasn’t forced to cook. ) , leaving his spare warm up sweaters that he knew you enjoyed snuggling in because they were baggy and loose on you at home and nearby your room so you could steal them, and even cleaning up your gaming setup for you when you were too tired from classwork to do so; giving it a nice wipe down before spritzing it with a light spray of sanitizer.

You both forgot about the game after a while, enjoying the company the other had given with immense joy. Then Atsumu came over. He claimed that Suna had kicked him out for being a slob, but a part of you knew deep down that it was really because he missed his brother. What you didn’t expect though, was him commenting on how you and his twin seemed to get along very well, clearly hinting at how he “knew you both were dating” ( if the wiggling of those blonde eyebrows had anything to say about it ). You flushed at the fox’s comment, looking towards Osamu for him to flat out deny it.

It saddened you that you knew your little trick was up, that he’d either hate you forever; or that it would become insanely awkward for the good few months you had left as roommates. But to everyone’s surprise — even Osamu’s — the darker haired male was silent. A pale dusting of pink crossed across his pale features, and he said nothing to disagree with what his brother had assumed.

“I fucking knew it.” Atsumu grinned, “I FUCKING KNEW IT!!!” he all but screeched, almost jumping up and down on the spot as he smiled widely and wildly at the both of you. During the whole ordeal, you tugged on Osamu’s sleeve, causing him to look at you shyly, “Really?” you asked him directly, hopeful, “Really.”

Maybe that game of chicken wasn’t as bad of an idea as you thought it was after all.
