Can't describe the level of hate I have for desert duo and scarian- *and* the fandom for pushing it so hard.

And I also want to say, I both love Scar and grian and love it when they interact, but the fact that this interaction will fuel such a painfully overhyped ship that has become a weird "fundamental" part of the lifeseries- for some reason? -that kills and pushes away any other ship concept that involves Scar or Grian, and just leads to more content being produced on such a massive scale

Like, as someone who only watched hermitcaft and some of the hermits side stuff, the fact it bleed over to that space after just 3rd life was a bit much, and when I finally got into lifeseries with last life, I was hit with the monolith of that ship. Now? No matter where you are, this eldritch horror of a ship somehow appears.

We can all agree that something changed in the hermit side of the myct fandom, from the staunch "You ship? You DIE" level of purity leading to folks like grumbo shippers to hide in the cracks, to "here's a bajillion ship art and maybe a couple non-ship art that can be taken as ship pretty easily" dunno what caused it, dsmp fans or that corner of myct getting into hermitcraft or the life series- my bet is on life, given the already present dramatics of it and designed edgy/dark aspect of it- BUT GOD did that seem like a campfire being drowned in jet fuel- and a lot of people latched on to desert duo given they won (and other more depressing reasons that are prevalent in the fandom, so so sorry big-b we don't deserve you) and, as the both are pretty much theater kids and lifelong entertainers, did a great performance to an improved narrative

There was almost a rancidness that came from the duo/ship (btw, what the fuck is with the "duo" thing, like where did this weird ass term come from, it kills me every time I see/use it) the moment the next life series started when people were already begging or desperate for more desert duo to an uncomfortable degree, pushing down or ignoring the other players and their characters in order to focus on them. This just kept going and still is, despite them not (AND NOW TRYING NOT TO) really interacting together or in a team way for almost every other game sense

The duo thing also takes away from both of the characters- like EVERYTHING has to be connected to each other, NOPE doesn't matter if scar is trying to do his own thing- it's tied to grian or his watchers!!! :)))) Then there's the painful simplification of these two to meet the need of the fandom- "Grian is a twink chaotic baby gremlin that is always in the wrong or causes issues by accident because he can't do wrong" being the worst offender in every fandom. (Genuinely hate how every artist take on grian is "twink babyboy" like- make him the blonde British middle age man he is, give him fucking FACIAL HAIR- he basically is 1:1 of his skin, specially the permit office one!)

Also, I'm sorry but these fandoms are so blind to media and the use of the crane wives music without grasping what most of the songs means for the sake of the surface level take is painful

it's funny to me when people get mad about fandom spaces... acting like fandom spaces... like what did you expect? not every take or every fic is going to be a hyper in-depth character study that's born from thousands of hours of canon content, there are always going to be silly incorrect quotes and horny self-inserts and easing character's complicated relationships a little so they can have a good time for once. I hate when people talk about Ashler like it’s inconceivable to ship them.

They’ll be like “Oh, they had so much beef, they’re barely even friends.” Genuinely asking here, have you even read the webtoon if you think that?

Tyler had issues with practically everyone at the beginning, hell, most of the kids didn’t even like each other. Ben, Aiden, Ashlyn, and Logan all thought he was a jerk and he was acting like one because he was trying to protect himself and Taylor and the whole situation was stressful as hell. That’s why his character development is so good. Even Ashlyn remarks that he’s being less of a jerk in one chapter and Taylor says that he's begun to see the others as real friends, maybe even family.

They all eventually became allies and then friends, including Ashlyn and Tyler. Sure, they like to throw some sarcastic remarks at each other but that’s just their sense of humour and part of the appeal of their friendship. Same with Aiden and Tyler, they insult each other all the time but the insults that were originally meant to hurt are now used affectionately.

He gave Ashlyn a nickname guys. He gave a jokey nickname to cheer her up because she felt terrible about the fact that she had to leave him behind while he got terribly hurt, while he died. She literally started crying out of guilt and being overwhelmed by the whole situation. She cares about him and he cares about her and the whole gang cares about each other, which is why there are so many ships in the fandom to begin with.

So stop acting like anyone who ships Ashler is stupid and stop saying ‘they’re like siblings’ on every post about them. We know it’s probably not gonna be canon, hell, Red herself said romance isn’t the focus of the webtoon at all.

I don’t even like shipping in general but the TikTok fandom keeps pissing me off.
