Well once again I found another plot hole or should I say more plot holes that I recently noticed in "episode 6 of Masters and Students" that Skyquake can't transform, and had to scan a vehicle mode when in reality he has one! When I re-watch the episode I thought it was a temporary side effect of him being in stasis too long, and here's the extra kicker why didn't they introduce Makeshift early? He had Bulkhead's voice and could have easily being disguised into a Vehicon to bring Starscream some news or asking for the next instructions, fox cuss! Megatron even forgot about Makeshift as he didn't mention his death in Rock Bottom among quote 'Starscream's string of failures', Makeshift in the Align Continuity books, he was an expert in infiltration to the point it made Prowl and Ratchet findings realize that it was too late the imposter is in the group, and come to think of it I think Makeshift might have being the medic of the Decepticons long before Knockout and Breakdown showed up, cuss why didn't they introduce Skyquake,Makeshift,Knockout and Breakdown early in the pilot episodes or at least mention them by name to set up their appearance in the next episodes to give a good build-up for the next ones, and need I remind you that Soundwave was inconveniently nowhere to be found? When Starscream was interrogating Fowler, not to mention in the Communication Bridge where he spends most of his time trying to pick up any hints of the Autobot's whereabouts, like where was he when the human trio plus the Autobot trio were on board the ship? Like couldn't at the writers show a scene where Megatron instructed Soundwave to go and locate or awaken Skyquake, at least anything that excuses his absence, we saw him only when Scream gets pounded by Megatron for his failure, while Soundwave is scot-free. Makeshift in Transformers Universe was trusted by Megatron himself to infiltrate the Autobots rank to learn about them, and now he was reduced to nothing in a matter of seconds!!!! Seriously?!.

Those above are for "Con Job", "Darkness Rising from 1 to 5", "Masters and Students".

Same goes for "Loose Cannons", Wheeljack and Dreadwing do have Cybertronian alternate modes.

Also, Ratchet and Bumblebee should have at least said that they knew Makeshift because in the books they did, Bumblebee was there with Jazz when they were interrogating him with Optimus was present, not to mention Ratchet was the one with Prowl to come to the conclusion that they have a plant.

And Speaking of Loose Cannons, I do not understand how in the wolf cuss, Dreadwing did not react to his actual brother's killer who is none other than Bumblebee who ripped out his circuits and it was unnecessary for Bee to have him doing that punching a hole is enough but ripping him from the inside out like Bulkhead did to that poor Vehicon is too much!!! Not to mention that Optimus and Soundwave were there at least he could have scowled and yell at Soundwave for not doing anything for his brother as he was just observing, whereas with Optimus he would scowl at him for not only witnessing his brother's death but also calling out on him for how he gave him a dishonorable demise.

Darkness Rising Part Two "The army you have gathered during your three years in space?" - Where the cuss is this army Megatron and Starscream?!

And Vehicons and Insecticons were built up to be stronger than they looked they made short work of Cliffjumper, Arcee, Bumblebee, Wheeljack and Megatron only in episodes later to be gunned down by Energon plasma shots and that's it game over, like really?! And one got knocked out by Smokescreen and apparently played Robot Opossum.

Also, the prophecy of "The Rising Darkness" wasn't foreshadowed enough, like we only learn of it in "One Shall Fall" and the previous episodes had no whiff of a mention of it, they could have at least had Optimus and Ratchet discuss amongst themselves and Optimus asking Agent Fowler to borrow and access an Astrological Telescope 🔭 so that he could observe the planetary movement, possible convergence and their patterns of alignment when can also add that Arcee caught wave of their conversations and kept herself shut only to ask about it later on, on why Optimus keeps going to an observatory with Agent Fowler while Ratchet keeps checking Solar system planets and their movements on his monitor, regularly just as much for possible Energon deposits, I get we got this one detail in "Masters and Students" through Miko's Solar System and Cybertron and it's as small as Bean trying to shoot Fantastic Mr Fox 🦊 to smithereens.

And speaking of "Armada" why the cuss did the Insecticons didn't shoot the ship down with their combined fire power there were a lot of them and they could have gone for the back thrusters in which they could have shut down the Nemesis easily out of the sky, more so than a bunch of bony living dead Predacons that somehow managed to damage the ship and crash it down.

In "Flying Mind" Soundwave should have interjected with Knockout about injecting Dark Energon to the power core of the Vessel because in Fall of Cybertron or War for Cybertron Soundwave initiated the "Nemesis Protocol" in which Trypticon was redesigned to become Megatron's flying ship, he could have reminded Megatron of the possibility of said behemoth to awaken him will lead to retribution only to dismiss his concerns, and for the first time Soundwave is appalled by Megatron not listening to him which could have led to some intriguing conflict between right hand servo and his leader.

Also, in my opinion Starscream had the many opportunities to go back to Cybertron to at least rebuild the weapon system and some cities to make impossible for the Autobots to come back and take it back, and having to rely on Starscream to find a way to break it, while Megatron does the same due to his obsession on killing Optimus as he never had the satisfaction of slaying Sentinel again as he died in prison, that way when the bots do come back to try and find the Omega Lock it gives the heroes a challenge to further highten the stakes, not to mention Starscream was a better leader than Megatron was, because at least he killed Cliffjumper, and almost killed Arcee which is more than he did, Megatron never slain a single bot.

Also I give Smokescreen a gold medal🥇 because at least he wasn't afraid to use and keep an Iacon relic with him which not only saved his life but also helped the bots get an Omega Key and get the Apex Armor, so of course he has a right to brag, the others even had two relics in store before the Apex Armor, Spark Extractor, Omega Keys,Star Saber, Toxic Energon, Resonance Blaster and Phase Shifter came into play, "The Polarity Gauntlet and The Immobiliser" yet they didn't use them, Arcee could have used it in Alpha, Omega which would have saved her from being slain by the Dark Star saber, she could have used said relic to take the key and search for Smokescreen only to be intercepted by Soundwave as he tries to get thing back from her to free Megatron, boom we get a Smokescreen, Arcee and Optimus vs Megatron and Soundwave and Laserbeak(I count him because I have respect for Minicons), but nope at least adapt it in book or comic form!.

Also in "Thirst" how the cuss Soundwave used the Space bridge he can only make Ground Bridges, only Autobot Outsider from Transformers Universe did that and weaponized it to his advantage,because Space Bridges need specific trajectories and structures as mentioned in the show to teleport to certain planets and places it is not an easy feat as ground bridging is.

Also, why the scanners of both Parties didn't detect a single Predacon bone until Season Three, Season 2 could have at least for example say Smokescreen after getting knocked out inside a pyramid, an object fell on him, say a fang or a talon, for some reason he kept it instead of throwing it away and would show it to Ratchet later on just as Optimus showed the skull to the group.

Also, the plan in Rebellion was a total disaster they expected that scattering forces around the glob would work instead of using a more strategic plan by digging underground and create a diversion with Team Wrecker to distract the army at the front, whereas Stealth Team goes for the sneaky approach, Ultra Magnus will go for the generator to disable it and will actually endure the fight against Megatron only to finally lose and they made Starscream look an idiot where said idiot is far more cunning and was able to almost find the Autobot base in a short amount of time more so than Soundwave and Laserbeak ever did, not to mention getting all three keys back thanks to the Red Energon he found.

It doesn't stop there, in "Synthesis" the writers once again treated Starscream like an idiot by having him shoot the wrong base, and he didn't even fought the aerial force and go check to see the remains of his enemies and bring them to his master, with also making him forget that his attack and presence might be detected as the Autobots managed to shield their energy signatures why not the cons as well huh?!

And in Armada and Thirst how in Blackarachnia's name did Airachnid fixed her broken leg that was tored off by Dreadwing when she fell down from a tree as she got shot and one that got toree off by Arcee as she imprisoned her in one of the Insecticon's stasis pods? Like she can grow it back as a lizard or what?!

Also, what do you think Arcee should have done in Armada instead of going after Airachnid on her own?

Finally, why in the fox the Nemesis isn't invisible, if Megatron intended to keep his kind's existence a secret then why he isn't cloaking the Nemesis so that the human's military doesn't alert the bots!!!!

I am really starting to feel like Kowalski from the Penguins of Madagascar!!!!!

Anyhow let me know what do you think sorry for making this long, I had to get my feelings out on digital paper and to the one person who gets my frustrations better.

Reviver! And heck, maybe so....once Rapid and Rev date, at some point Rapid puts his differences aside with the ninjabots. 

Jazz loves the idea of double dates so he encourages it. Rapid is a lil indifferent about it, but when he does go, it realizes he has never had the time to step back and relax a bit more. Dating Rev at first was pretty risky since the whole con/bot cross relationship is heavily looked down upon. But with the help of Prowl, who in the case in most likely dating Blitzwing, he knows what it’s like to date a con, and helps out Rapid.

SO YEAh anyways yes they do interact, eventually.

IDW Character + Relationship Spectacular (1/2) - tf fanfic census 2017 (pt 5)

Okay. Oh boy. This is a big one. Are you a person who’s ever wondered how much fanfic there is about various IDW characters or pairings? Because if so, this post (and part 2 once I finish it) is the thing for you.

(So so many graphs ahead)

Initial Caveats

If you have a hard time reading any graphs, there’s a separate image post of just the graphs: pt 1 & pt 2

I can only query what people have tagged on ao3, not what they’ve actually written! So throughout this piece I’ll be given counts of works tagged with a character or a relationship that also are tagged with ‘IDW Generation One’. There may well be more of that relationship/character that aren’t under the IDW fandom tag, but I can’t distinguish them from works for other series.

Also, like, I found all this data by searching the database and sometimes counting works by hand. Numbers may be wrong and characters/pairings may be missed. Sorry if I forgot about your favorites!

Who Shows Up

Okay, so I tried to find the number of works that tagged each character...but there are too many characters. So instead we’re going to look at any characters tagged in >50 works. (Sorry to Nightbeat (47), Pipes (30), Lug (10) etc.)

I’m sure there’s something in here to surprise everyone and I don’t want to belabor the point by bothering you with all my observations but:

Drift : Wow.

Swerve : Is listed before Optimus Prime, which is impressive

Somebody needs to go and write some more fics about Anode and Lug, they’ve only got 10 each and it’s sad. :(

What stood out to you?

So...What Kind of Fics Did People Write About Them?

Gathering full ratings breakdowns for all of these folks would have been really time consuming. Instead, I found you the percentage of fics that are explicit (to find the percentage of works that are probably smut) and the percent that are Gen (the category, not the rating. Thus, works that do and do not have relationships).

There are a heckin lot of characters and that makes for crowded graphs, so let’s look at the outliers. In aggregate, 29% of IDW fic is rated explicit. Purple is percent explicit, red is percent otherwise.

Well, I guess evil is sexy, y’all.

And being married (or a cat) (or a dinosaur) (or a gangly bird with claws) is less sexy.

Okay, now let’s look at Gen (theoretically works with no relationships) versus non-Gen works. This isn’t going to tell us who’s more likely to be in a relationship precisely - it might tell us who’s more likely to be a background character in shipping versus nonshipping works. But interesting nonetheless. In aggregate, 19% of IDW works are Gen and 81% are otherwise.

Let’s look at who’s most likely to be in a fic with shipping. Red is Gen, purple is otherwise.

...this is not a very surprising chart, on the most part. Or maybe I’ve looked at too many ao3 tags while data gathering and I’ve lost all capacity to be surprised.

Looking at the outliers on the other end, there’s a lot of the same names as bots who were infrequently in E rated fics. We’ve lost some of the romantics, though: Rewind, Chromedome, Chromia and Skids were all low in E rated fics but are higher in Gen works.

Okay. But I’m Here for the Relationships.

cool, cool, that’s fair. Let’s start out by looking at the ‘top 10′ most popular relationships, the ones AO3 lists in the side bar.

Far and away, there’s more Dratchet fic than any other pairing. Which is a surprise is probably nobody. Let’s see how the ratings shake out for these ten. (I’ve swapped some pairs to abbreviations because they were getting cut off otherwise)

Here we can see that Cyclonus/Tailgate and Chromedome/Rewind are the only pairings that have more than 50% gen or teen works. On the other hand, Megatron/Optimus and Drift/Rodimus are both about 47% explicit.

If we look at median fic length we get some really weird data. Specifically, Megatron/Optimus and Jazz/Prowl are both twice as long on average than any of the other top ten pairings.

But maybe you’re curious about the outliers - what’s the longest/most popular fic focusing on each of these pairings? I’ve excluded from this search works that don’t list the pairing first and any sort of short story collection. Numbers are rounded to the nearest 50.

Well, um, there’s a bit of an outlier in our outliers chart here. Simpatico has the shortest longest fic, at under 25K, while MegOp’s longest fic is over 300K words.

But when we look by hits, that extra length for MegOp and Jazz/Prowl doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference. (The longest, most hits and most kudos fics may or may not be the same story, I honestly didn’t write it down and don’t know)

This chart is just weird as heck, honestly. CDRW is very popular in terms of number of stories and number of hits, but is the bottom of the kudos list when we look at top fics. We could theorize but I generally try not to get too deep into trying to psychoanalyze readers as a collective. (tis a dangerous road)

Let’s instead take a sharp right turn and look at when these fics were posted. If you find the median update time for a pairing, you’ll know the date which divides the most recent 50% of fics from the older 50% of fics. From here we can see which pairings gained popularity relatively recently.

...and probably nobody can read that timeline cause it’s tiny. Let’s look at the left half first.

These are the pairings that gained popularity fairly early - 50% of all Drift/Wind, Drift/Perceptor and Chromedome/Rewind fics were published before June ~15 of 2015. Those mostly make sense, but I admit I was surprised that Cygate, Simpatico and Drift/Rodimus had their halfway points so early.

On the other hand we’ve got the median dates that are relatively later. Megatron/Rodimus is apparently a fairly recently popular ship - 50% of fics were updated after October of 2016. Drift/Ratchet is similarly recently popular. Megatron/Optimus is kinda middling, falling about in the center of the chart.

Prowl/Jazz is a weird one. I’m told that Prowl/Jazz shippers are often folks who’ve come from other iterations still holding onto that ship, but in that case I’d have expected the median date to be earlier? But y’all do your thing, Prowl/Jazz shippers.

Okay, but what if Lynn (me) was really stupid and counted how many writers wrote each individual pairing? What kind of data would we get out of that?

Well, if that stupid eventuality were to come to pass we might see that...

There are a ton of people writing Dratchet, Cygate and CDRW (you know, for a tiny community. 100 is relatively large.) On the other hand, Megatron/Rodimus is a real niche writing crowd. Numbers may be slightly off! I literally counted these by hand!

But, of course, the top three have a lot more fics. So, if every writer had written an equal number of stories, how many would each have had to write? Well, in the case of Drift/Wing, Drift/Percy and Megatron/Rodimus, more than 3. Dratchet is also up there.

But, probably that’s not what happened. Probably most people wrote one or two fics and a very select few people wrote a hecking ton of them. So...how much of each pairing was written by the most prolific writer in the pairing?

The height of the bars indicates the count, the number indicates the percentage and holy Primus some of y’all are devoted as fuck. (of course, many of these fics are very short blahblahblah, we’re looking at numbers I can quantify, there’s no easy way to add up word count for individual writers)

Okay, that’s going to be it for today. Next up we’re going to look at every pairing (with more than 10 fics) involving a character with more than 50 fics. But this post is already way super long, so we had to split it up.

Chapter 5(Kitty's Transforming Story)

The ride back to Cybertron was eventful, to say the least. First off, I almost killed one of the Jet Twins, he calls himself Jetstorm and if you know where I'm coming from, you wouldn't blame me. See, when we were back on Cybertron, the whole planet was wiped out because of Megatron, he took everyone's sparks. So we had to fight him to get them back, luckily we did. But if Silverbolt wasn't in Jetstorm, I would have killed him.

Jetstorm was so obnoxious and he flirted with me too much, it was super annoying, he was worse than Sentinel, and that's saying something. Thinking of Sentinel, he was so rude to me. He kept on calling me an "organic", well it's true, but he was using the rude in an awful way. If Blackarachnia was here, she would smack him.

But the positive thing was that the Jetstorm from this timeline is really friendly and he gets along with his twin, not something that I see every day.

Another thing that happened was the fact that they asked what I transformed into and I said nothing. "What do you mean you don't transform?" Bumblebee asked as if he didn't think something couldn't transform. "I don't have a Transformation Cog, the thing that makes Cybertronians transform," I explained. 'Well, do you have a holoform?' Prowl asked me, it was weird that I could only hear him and no one else, it was so odd. "I do however have a human holoform." "Oh, so like that Ninja did when he transformed into a motorcycle." Why did Sentinel just bring up Prowl? He shouldn't have done that.

"His name is Prowl, Sentinel." Optimus softly said. To break any fights before they even started I showed them my holoform. I was slightly taller than Sari, about 5'3" with blonde hair in a ponytail. Brown eyes and wearing orange lipstickk with a black crop top, a cheetah-like design jacket(like my design), black gloves. Black booty shorts with knee-high boots and tan skin. They were all amazed, even Sari was surprised with how I looked so similar to my normal machine body. 'Magnificent.' Prowl softly says. "Your really pretty, Kitty." Bumblebee says. After Bee says that I go back to my normal form.

I was in my habsuite that I was using on the ship and I was looking through my pockets and I found a small spider hidden in there. "How did that get in my pocket?" I asked myself and I went to go look for everyone.

"It looks like a flash drive," Sari says as she examines it. "Can I plug it in?" "Yeah, go ahead Kitty." Jazz says and I do so.

"Hey Kitty, it's Blackarachnia, I'm sure you already knew that but I put this in your pocket in case you forgot everything when you went back in time, this drive has some recordings that I took of the team and the memories that we all have together. Have fun looking at these and stay safe, and by the way, if you see Optimus and Sentinel, tell them not to worry about me in the past. I become a better person, Blackarachnia out."

Memories starting:

Kitty: Blackarachnia what's you got there?

Blackarachnia: oh it's nothing I'm just recording some things

Kitty: if you don't mind me asking, why?

Blackarachnia: that's to explain another time

All of the memories that I had were shown. Blackarachnia knew that I was going to time travel, even when we were on Prehistoric Earth. It didn't make anything since. Maybe that's why towards the end she was working so much. She was working on that time machine. Then I started to remember what happened and how I got here.

"Now remember Kitty to be careful, you never know what's on the other side." "Yes, yes, I get it Blackarachnia, you just want me safe, and I will be." Blackarachnia got me all suited up and she was ready to send me. "Are you ready?" "Yes, let's do this!" "Comm me when you get on the other side." "Will do Blackarachnia."

I entered through the portal and I tried to message her but I couldn't my Comm stopped working, then nested thing I knew I blackout and I woke up only knowing my name and not knowing how I got to Earth.

I remember how I got here, it all made sense." I said as I removed the drive. I then looked at Optimus and Sentinel and Optimus looked hurt and Sentinel was angry. "Sentinel are you okay?" I asked him and then he yelled at me, "ALL OF YOU ORGANICS ARE ALL THE SAME!" He then stormed off. Jazz told me not to worry about him. Great, another eventful day.

I was walking back to my habsuite and I heard sobbing it was coming from Sentinel's room. "Sentinel are you okay, it's Kitty." The sobbing stopped and Sentinel opened his door and he looked at me, all he did was lead me into his suite and I didn't say anything. All I did was walk in and sit down at the desk that he had, he came over and dragged me to his berth. I layed with him and he started sobbing again.

I rubbed his back to try to soothe him and tried to make him relaxed. I guess I wasn't the only one that missed Blackarachnia or Elita-One.
