I'm glad you think so honestly! I fear I may have made him a little too soft sometimes, because he's still meant to be a slasher villain! But I think his dead eyed fish stare evens it out a bit :)

thinking of madame red and just. her whole deal.

imagine feeling inferior to your older sibling. imagine feeling as if your hair color is bad, that your appearance isn't as pretty as desired in society. and then you meet that one person who makes you feel like you matter. someone who makes you feel desirable and pretty, makes you feel good about yourself for the first time in your entire life.

and then your sibling is the one who marries them.

your sibling, who's always been prettier and superior to you in every way, takes away the one person who makes you feel special. you would feel heartbroken too, wouldn't you? you're happy for your sibling, you really are, but... it still hurts knowing what they did. it hurts knowing that your special person will never be yours in the end.

you settle for marrying some other person. he knows you have someone you can't get over, and still agrees to marry you. you're set to have a child with this man, though you wish you could be bearing the child of your special person instead. then tragedy strikes. an accident occurs. your husband is killed on the spot, but you didn't survive unscathed either. you lost your child, and any chance at having another. you can't even fulfill your sole purpose in life.

even that has been taken away from you.

your special person and your sibling had twin sons. you wanted to visit for their tenth birthday; as their aunt, you still had a duty. even if those children bear the appearance of their father, your special person. but the house is in flames. they all turned to ashes that day. it was a horrifying sight. tragedy after tragedy. you can't seem to win.

one child returns. you hate that. you hate that the child that resembles him has returned, but not him. it's unfair. you hate it.

you become a doctor. many women come to you to get abortions. you hate that too. you're envious of them. they have what you can never have, and they want to just give it up? just like that? it's unfair.

THERES JUST. I HAVE MANY THOUGHTS.

Who is your favorite canon warrior cat?

I used to say Graypool or Dovewing but when it comes to the original arc I think I favor Longtail just because the narrative really did him dirty.

People will be like "oh he was so edgy and mean to rusty/firepaw when he joined" but like. And? He was still a young warrior at the time and was taken under wing of like. Two very very anti-kittypet cats. Cats that had major influence on his life. Ofc he's gonna take after them and try to imitate that ideology/attitude, and probably in an exaggerated way because he's young, esp when it's not just Tigerclaw and Darkstripe that dislike kittypets.

But we see time and time again that Longtail is fiercely loyal and pretty compassionate about his clanmates even if he doesn't necessarily like them. Didn't he save Fireheart from like??? Drowning??

And then at the end of it all, he ends up with two of the most influential cats in his life leaving by betrayal and having to fight against them, losing his apprentice in an extremely traumatic way that, mind you, is connected to one of those influential cats because he lures the dogs out to kill brindleface, and ends up blinded by what to him MUST be a humiliating way.

I'm glad he's able to find peace with the disability by the end and settle, though as always I wish that the Erins would actually let disabled cats be warriors instead of immediately assuming they're incapable. Blindness ≠ unable to fight. It's a big disadvantage, yeah, but cats have other senses, and they're pretty strong senses at that.

Idk. I grow more and more fond of Longtail as a character as time goes on and personally I really wish he had been made deputy within the first arc because I believe he not only deserves it, but would be the guy fit for the job better than Graystripe or Bramble.

Dovewing is another close favorite, though I haven't read the newer arcs. I only know up to Omen of the Stars. Everyone sympathizes with Ivypool because she had a bad childhood and literally got sent to hell (it's valid to feel bad for her, don't get it twisted) but imagine being a literal child and your gods tell you that you're the chosen one whether you like it or not. You're "blessed" with an ability that actively hurts you and alienates you from your peers and you're settled with an insurmountable pressure to do as you're told to save the world or whatever. You just want to be a normal kid. You want to have a good relationship with your sister, but you can't because of this. You aren't allowed to complain about it because you are supposed to be grateful to these gods for everything. The other chosen ones are abrasive and standoffish from their own traumas. You're a child. And you're going through this. That's fucked up, man. And yet she's so kind 🥺

I sometimes joke that Hikari goes through hell through the story, but went through ultra-hell during the time skips.

So him ages 10-16 is his entire character development and now it's like:

But hmm… on a side note- speaking of Hikari going through it during the time skips, I wonder what it was like for him in the time between the death of Kura and the beginning of the game…

Like- his mom was the only family member who was ever really there for him (father is the king of an imperialist nation with a long history of bloodshed, Mugen is…. *side eyes that one chapter 1 scene* Mugen…) So what would it have been like grieving his mother’s death in such a hostile environment…?

…Yeah maybe he really did go through ultra-hell in the time skips :,D
