As is her way, Taylor can only be consistently expected to do one thing: subvert expectations. Swiftly (some might say) bypassing an opportunity to plug any of the three albums she’s either released, or is on the precipice of releasing, she went straight to a very reputation-coded Versace gown. The likes of famed supermodel lore or legendary Liz Hurley status. It’s sexy, it’s slinky, it’s very distinctively signature Versace - using Medusa-embossed buttons in a pseudo snap closure style instead of the more overt safety pin (this detail continues on the strappy open criss-cross back all the way down the back to the end of her train, which is worth a look on its own).
I personally love a classic Versace look such as these. They’ve been done, and done a lot. But I can’t fight a classic sexy siren gown like this. The decision to forego Taylor’s signature red lip, I think, is a smart one that prevents the look from going too overboard. In my opinion, the styling choices were either pile on the jewels or pile on the crimson lip. And Taylor/her team went for the former - something that’s atypical of her style. The mussed hair with the trailing pieces left out of their updo feel “roll out of bed” intimate and sensual and feels akin to the curly bangs from the reputation photoshoot. But I can’t help but think an uber sleek blowout could have been great here. 
If indeed a nod to reputation, I’ve always seen that album as one of two diametrically opposed forces: the external perceptions of who you are vs the internal realizations of the life you’re quietly building. To use a dress with so many asymmetrical details (the bodice, the straps, and even in the movement of the button detailing literally splicing her in half) as an embodiment of that would be quite appropriate. It’s also a smart use of a brand’s signature design details to (possibly) use for your own means.
Not to mention this is precisely the kind of dress at least I would envision buying so someone else could take it off.

"Little bat" lute grumbled seeing the undrinken hotel of donated blood in your fridge cause she REFUSEF to allow it in the normal one. "Come and eat or no damn cuddles.. or kisses"
Hearing youe running, she hummed, smirking. Worked every time.
Of course there will be times she forgets to remind you.
Never on purpose no- she's a busy woman. She tends to over work(alot) but she tries-
For you she tries to take breaks more often which..isn't much but by her standards it is- its her attempt at it
She'll spend hours if not if neither of you are careful. Days training even more if execution day is coming.
Then she forgets to prepare your drinks- aware you hate it. Hate being reminded of what you are. So she does it instead- she knows you can yourself-

Execution day sucks. It's exhausting- the aftermath is never fun. Lute was in an even more sour mood which. Didn't help.
She didn't get a kiss nor hug. She tried to remember- did she forget something? A date? A anniversary? A holiday?
Shes done those often. Never on purpose. But her work- her training distracted her
Walking into the house, she blinked. It was quiet. Too quiet. To dark. Sighing, she put her mask on the table, going to the one place you went when upset. Your shared bedroom. On the way she prepared an apology- for.. whatever she must have done
"Babe?"
Nothing but completely silence answered her back. Frowning she walked into your shared room seeing you curled in your shared bed. Shaking. Frowning deeply she moved sitting beside you- quiet as she rubbed your arm
She knew what this meant. She knew that tense movement. Experienced it herself. Knows why you starve yourself. Even more from being a redeemed soul.
God, does she hate it. When you get like this.
"How long?" She spoke softly, watching you shakily lift three fingers. Taking a deep sigh, she hummed "weeks?' A nod. Rubbing your arm, she hummed. "Come on. Let's get you some fresh food. Tugging you onto her lap gently. Knowing talking at this moment hurt you. So she took up most of the talking. Making sure what she asked would be easy to answer back for you. Seeing your confused face made her smirk amused.
"Eat."
Tugging her shirt open, brushing her hair to the side, seeing your expression made her chuckle smirking "babe you drank from me before~ you can again, no?" You shook your head
"Will- will hurt-"
"Dove.. don't talk for me ok? Be a good girl and drink. You need to drink- to feed- I'll stop you if need be ok?" That was all you needed as you sunk your fangs into her. And began to drink.
"That's a good girl~" she praised, trying to hide her wince from you
Everytime without fail as she allows you to feed off her. She knows how you get- how rich her angel blood is. She has been warned to be careful
She is. She takes the precaution that even though you have control of yourself. It isn't always the case- sometimes you attempt to get more then what you need- take more
Your addicted to her blood
And she knows it.
And she knows how down right dangerous that is- but she's a good mate. She'll feed you in anyway to ensure your survival.
And if not yours. Then, any poor soul you decide is your next meal. Your her responsibility just as she is yours

Everyone is aware that Miguel is headstrong, cold, and egotistical. His partner would have to have thick skin when it comes to communicating with Miguel. The line between positive self-esteem and a big ego is thin.
There would have to be some time spent getting to know Miguel in order to learn his body language and quirks. You would need to be able to distinguish between him being cold and snappy for no reason, and him being cold and snappy because he's hungry. A non-verbal communication link would develop between the two of you. If this doesn't happen, both of your feelings could be hurt because you wouldn't know each other's intentions.
Forgive and forget. Not holding grudges and being willing to talk about past arguments is vital. It will lead to growth in both of you and in your relationship. For example, let's say you both had a small disagreement in the morning and you met again for lunch. The air between you two is cool now. Being busy at work has left you both occupied with other worries or stressors. Now is the time you would bring up the disagreement. It is sometimes uncomfortable or can get heated again, but it is so important to both of you that it's talked about.
Sometimes talking about arguments felt like it went nowhere, but Miguel will remember how you voiced your opinions and will "correct" himself. He doesn't want you to leave him because of something stupid. It could be as small as having a disagreement about laundry being on the floor. Next time when he's taking off his clothes, he'll make sure they end up in the bin. It may cause him to roll his eyes or scoff in an annoyed manner, but it will still get done.
Setting boundaries is important. Miguel values your personal space and respects it above all else, which is a crucial aspect of your relationship. If there is something you don't like, speak up immediately. Miguel will not hesitate to express his own dislikes as well. It's important for both of you to show mutual respect.
You are as sassy as he is, and he loves it. However, don't expect him to tell you that. You keep him guessing, and if he makes a snarky remark, you give it right back. Sometimes, when you both go on a tangent, you can make him smile and lose his train of thought mid-sentence. You know you've won when he puts one hand on his hip and brings out the pointer finger. It's annoying, but so damn cute.
Rarely calls you by your name. When he does, it's either when he's serious or the moment is intimate. If you have a nickname, he's going to add "ito/ita" after it. Miguel will say the nicknames at work too. He can't help it. The majority are sweet like "amor" or "mi vida," but he also calls you "baboso/babosa." It's all backed by love, of course.
In private, touch is very important to him. Sometimes, an embrace means more than telling him you love him. If Miguel brings work home and is sitting at the table, going up and lightly kissing his head will absolutely melt him. Or, if he's cooking and you come up behind him and wrap your arms around him, the place where you made contact will always linger on him. It almost feels like there are a bunch of little butterflies flying and landing where you touched. He melts like chocolate in the summer sun.
There are times during the day, usually before bed, when he completely lets his walls down around you. This only happens in private when you're both alone with each other. Miguel will walk over to you quietly and just melt into your arms. He'll rest his head on yours if you're shorter than him or rest his head on your shoulder in the crook of your neck. Snuggles? Yeah, he is more than happy to be the little spoon. His favorite way to hold you and spend time with you is when you're under his arm. Expect a bunch of kisses - forehead, cheeks, lips, and hair. The man has unlimited kisses.

Because I can't get FushiItaKen off my brain. I need your brain to brew and give me the deets, does anything change? Does Kenta purposely take up more of Ita's time to tease Fushimi? Tell me what your brain is thinking uwu

The way I see it happening is accidental or even on purpose on Kenta's part. A few drinks in and an actual moment of reminiscing his long life; a passing comment of; 'oh remember when I taught you have to masturbate' and he snortgiggles to himself. Fushimi not being ashamed about it and snorts himself; 'a monster of ivory skin and a touch that harmed more than good, think about what does to a mind unable to comprehend an erection.' aka, he'll hurt himself with his destructive touch he's been so long told to be capable of. Kenta and Fushimi bantering as always across the table but Itachi either being there since the beginning or walking on it all and being invited inside.
Kenta would be open about it, since he knows that look of curiosity on Itachi's face and awaits the questioning. Fushimi wouldn't hide from the facts of the past, a trouble life he had underground and in this home but he guessed it could of been seen as odd considering Kenta's true nature and the likes but it could be easily glossed over for the sake of conversation.
I think the more intimate moments would take a while to happen; probably more talks and hanging out together as a thruple. :thinking: I say at least a few IC months of the deeper bonding, and no lie Itachi bringing it up cause his mind-to-mouth filter just being nothing when he's curious lmao
From there, defo see Kenta stealin' Itachi's time more, more stories to share, more bonding of two souls outside of the 'brotherly' concept they've adopted but knowing somewhere it was a little more than just that. Close as family, closer than lovers, twin souls that would always find each other - Kenta admitting he is sure Itachi was his crude version of an angel - he knows his face, his eyes, his demeanour across the ages.
Fushimi and Kenta having that banter in the same breathe, they had their sexual moments in Fushimi's youth and Kenta was the only thing that didn't die under his uncontrollable power. Am thinking, Fushimi and Kenta would be intimately compatible, their hearts not really being in it terms of being in love but respect and acceptance… Whilst I think Kenta and Itachi are connected by the heart and soul, they'd be not so much sexual but more passionate? Make out buddies, nude cuddling, sharing baths a lot more, skin-on-skin ship and peace of mind in a sense.
When all together, it's always about Itachi, so Itachi-coded duo. Kenta would play the switch between the two, but riding Itachi whilst he's getting railed by Fushimi? A bonus.

GQ: Com'è andata martedì scorso? Hai fatto un servizio fotografico con <GQ> in un giardino che sembrava uscito da una fiaba.
JIMIN: È stato un vero piacere lavorare in buonissima compagnia ed indossando abiti fantastici.

GQ: Il giardino era umido ed un po' smorto, dopo la pioggia, ma i tuoi “colori” ci sono parsi più vividi. Se dovessi descrivere l'atmosfera di quel giorno con un colore, quale sceglieresti?
JIMIN: Se dovessi descriverla con un colore... mi viene in mente una tinta fiori di ciliegio.

GQ: Vero. Ricordo chiaramente quel completo color fiori di ciliegio e come mettesse in risalto il tuo viso. Hai menzionato che il tuo modo di muoverti e camminare varia a seconda degli abiti che indossi. Mi pare dunque evidente che ciò che indossi abbia una grande influenza su di te. Come ti trovi nell'esprimere te stesso attraverso la moda, rispetto a quando lo fai con la musica ed il ballo sul palco?
JIMIN: Per esperienza, le foto vengono meglio quando sono più naturale. Quindi cerco di rilassarmi il più possibile, durante servizi fotografici e riprese.
GQ: Durante la diretta Weverse in cui presentavi <FACE>, hai detto: “Volevo fosse una sorta di dichiarazione, un modo per superare quel periodo di smarrimento e le emozioni provate.” Durante la <BTS FESTA 2021>, inoltre, hai detto che credi “in ciò che puoi creare”, mentre non credi che “il destino sia prestabilito”. L'impressione che ci siamo fattə è che proseguire seguendo i tuoi ritmi, le tue idee e con i tuoi soli sforzi sia molto importante per te.
JIMIN: Sono convinto che non ci sia nessuno che possa definire quali sono i propri limiti. Certo, abbiamo tuttə dei limiti, ma non possiamo sapere fino a che punto possiamo spingerci, finché non ci proviamo. Infatti capisco e conosco appieno tutto il coraggio e l'impegno che ci vogliono per credere in se stessə e tirare avanti. Ecco perché trovo che definire la propria strada ed imboccarla con le proprie forze ed energia sia un atto davvero notevole.
GQ: Ascoltando <FACE>, ho proprio provato un senso di empatia, grazie ai toni onesti e alle confessioni più intime. È stato come se le tue parole dessero forma ai miei sentimenti, come se “un chiarore filtrasse dalle ferite aperte, mostrandomi ogni cosa sotto una luce nuova.” (Estratto da “Even with a Very Faint Light” di Choi Eun-young)
JIMIN: Wow, grazie per queste bellissime parole.

GQ: L'album è stato un modo per affrontare e superare le tue ferite interiori, quindi immagino l'obiettivo principale non fosse quello di dare conforto. Ciononostante, hai provato felicità e sollievo per la reazione delle/i fan?
JIMIN: Le parole gentili, i complimenti ed il supporto delle/i fan sono sempre fonte di gioia e conforto, per noi. Il dono più grande è poter vedere le/i nostrə fan. Questa cosa non è mai cambiata.
GQ: Nell'intervista che avete fatto a gennaio 2022 con <GQ>, RM, riguardo il potere catartico che ha la musica, ha detto: “Aprirsi agli altri e confidarsi può renderci più forti.” Ma ha anche ammesso che, nonostante crede sia importante essere onesti con le/i fan, prova sentimenti contrastanti a riguardo, un senso – sì – di leggerezza e liberazione, ma anche un po' di timore. Ora che è passato un po' di tempo dal rilascio del tuo primo album solista, cosa pensi ti abbia lasciato Face? Dopotutto, certe emozioni diventano più chiare solo col senno di poi.
JIMIN: L'album mi ha aiutato a capire più a fondo le complesse emozioni che stavo provando in quel periodo, e da cui non riuscivo a districarmi. Grazie a questa preziosa esperienza, non ho più paura né insicurezze nel farmi forza e rialzarmi, quando mi sento smarrito ed impotente.
GQ: Ora che, grazie al tuo lavoro solista, hai imparato ad affrontare ed analizzare le tue emozioni, pensi di essere meglio disposto a fronteggiare questi sentimenti, anche quelli più fugaci, invece di lasciarli semplicemente andare? Pensi di aver trovato il modo di catturare ed esprimere queste emozioni?
JIMIN: Quando mi rendo conto che qualcosa di prezioso e speciale sta crescendo in cuor mio, prendo il telefono e mi appunto tutto. Poi, quando mi capita di ripensare a quei momenti ed emozioni, può succedere io mi commuova. E ovviamente mi assicuro di appuntare anche questi nuovi sentimenti.

GQ: Trovo davvero brillante l'idea del colmare i vuoti - eventualmente lasciati dalla musica - attraverso la coreografia. Credo il tuo non sia un semplice ballare, ma il tentativo concreto di concettualizzare quelle emozioni attraverso una riflessione ed un progetto coscienti.
JIMIN: Esatto. Quando pianifichiamo un progetto e decidiamo qual è la direzione generale che vogliamo seguire per quanto riguarda la coreografia, io partecipo attivamente alla conversazione, condividendo idee e concept cui ho già pensato in fase di stesura dei brani. Quella parte del processo mi piace molto.
GQ: Nonostante non sia stato incluso nella versione a stampa della nostra intervista di gennaio 2022, allora avevi confidato di pensare spesso al significato di concetti astratti quali le relazioni, la lealtà e l'amore. Credi di aver trovato risposte a queste idee? A cosa pensi, di questi tempi?
JIMIN: Sono concetti tuttora un po' complessi, per me, visto che sono ancora in fase di maturazione e non sono ancora del tutto un adulto. Quindi, sarà per quello, ma la mia concezione di queste cose cambia ogni giorno. A volte idee quali le relazioni, la lealtà e l'amore mi sembrano solo parole vuote, ma ci sono anche momenti in cui vi penso con grande affetto e mi ci ritrovo, anche se ancora non ne ho una comprensione completa e soddisfacente. Ma voglio continuare a provare e sperimentare uno spettro sempre più ampio di nuove emozioni.

GQ: Credi, quindi, sia per quello che la tua danza sembra come catturare tutti i dualismi e la complessità delle emozioni? Perché penso sia proprio questo a rendere ogni ascolto della tua musica un'esperienza sempre nuova, qualcosa che lascia un impatto duraturo. Personalmente, di cosa hai bisogno per trasporre questi sentimenti in musica e poi in ballo?
JIMIN: La prima volta che ascolto una traccia, è importante sentirla come mia e riconoscermi. Poi cerco di tenere a mente quelle prime impressioni e di esprimerle al meglio quando sono sul palco.
GQ: I BTS sono riusciti a rendere nullo il concetto di “barriere linguistiche”. Dopo il primo piazzamento del gruppo nelle principali classifiche Billboard, mi ha molto commosso la tua dichiarazione a riguardo: “Il linguaggio dei BTS consiste nel raggiungere vari angoli del mondo. Invece che prefissarci obiettivi grandiosi, spero questa nostra lingua continuerà a raggiungere quante più persone possibile in tutto il globo.”
JIMIN: Prima di arrivare al livello cui siamo ora, il nostro gruppo ha dovuto affrontare diverse difficoltà, smarrire occasionalmente la direzione e risolvere conflitti, ma ci siamo sempre sostenuti a vicenda. Strada facendo, abbiamo provato gioia, dolore, tristezza, felicità e amore— e siamo sempre stati molto aperti ed onesti rispetto a questi sentimenti. Credo sia proprio questo che ha raggiunto i cuori della gente. In fin dei conti, quindi, non è tanto la lingua, quanto il cuore che può fare da ponte.

GQ: Se tutte le lingue del mondo dovessero scomparire e rimanesse un'unica forma d'espressione, quale sceglieresti?
JIMIN: Sceglierei l'inchino, il gesto di abbassare il capo in segno di saluto e gratitudine. È un gesto semplice, ma può avere diversi significati: può essere un “ciao” pieno di calore, un “grazie” o un “arrivederci”, o semplicemente essere espressione di rispetto e garbo verso l'altra persona. Se dovesse sopravvivere solo un linguaggio o una forma di espressione, sceglierei questo, l'inchino, il gesto che incarna saluto, gratitudine e stima.
GQ: Tra le tante parole di conforto che hai ricevuto quest'anno, qual è stata la più preziosa? E quali vorresti offrire al pubblico?
JIMIN: Ci sono molti modi di provare gioia. Quest'anno, le espressioni di conforto che ho sentito più spesso – dalle/i fan, da persone a me vicine e colleghi – sono state “Non ti preoccupare, stai andando alla grande anche se non sei veloce quanto vorresti.” Queste parole hanno reso più felice il mio 2023. Quindi, invece di offrire parole di conforto, vorrei fare una domanda a coloro che stanno leggendo quest'intervista: “Quand'è che siete più felici? Cos'è che vi riempie di gioia?”. Perché, sì, abbiamo tutti storie ed percorsi differenti, ma spero veramente ognunə di voi possa provare almeno un momento di piena gioia e felicità completa ogni giorno delle vostre vite.

GQ: Dici spesso cose tipo “Non cambieremo mai” o “Probabilmente, quando avremo 40 anni, saremo ancora così”. Sembra proprio tu sia fermamente convinto di questa cosa, come se il tempo non ti scalfisse e, anzi, tu viaggiassi su una retta parallela ad esso. Cosa speri non cambierà mai di te, sia in quanto membro dei BTS che come individuo?

How would the HRE = Germany theory apply to GerEng? Does it become EngGerIta?
I'm sorry anon, as much as I do enjoy engita, I just...don't really like Ger//Ita in most cases, not even if it's part of a poly ship. So no EngGer//Ita in my timeline. Plus, the HRE = Germany theory has long been used in Ger//Ita, I like applying it to other relationships outside of it.
I actually made a fic about how I think it would play out. But in short. I do think Ger//Ita would get together at first. Feli still holds feelings as well as trauma surrounding HRE and Ludwig's first crush was on Feli and now he has a chance with him. It's not healthy though.
They both have trauma. Feli is holding too much onto the past and projects that onto Ludwig without realizing it's hurting him. And he doesn't love Ludwig for who he is now, he loves him for who he used to be. Ludwig is trying to be someone he no longer is to make other's happy and is holding onto Feli because he feels that's the only person who connects him to who he used to be.
(even when Ludwig is HRE through and through, I like the idea that he feels some distances/disconnect from his time as HRE. Like sometimes the memories of that time feel like he's watching from someone else's memories)
When all this first happens Arthur is hurt. He thought he and Ludwig had something special going. There hadn't been a confession yet, but they had shared many intimate moments and he was hoping one day he'd get the courage to ask Ludwig out, but now that seems it will never happen.
But he starts to notice something is taking a toll on Lud so he extends a hand to him, offering to be someone to vent to. He ends up being the person Ludwig needs to finally open up about his confusion over the whole thing. Sure Arthur was acquaintances with HRE but didn't have strong attachments to him like everyone else Ludwig would usually confide in. Arthur is the one to help remind Ludwig who he is and that his past doesn't have to define him and he shouldn't chase it until exhaustion. He's Germany. He's Ludwig. That's more than enough.
In the end Ludwig breaks up with Feli, knowing that neither of them are getting what they want out of this relationship. Neither of them love the other romantically (at least not for who they are currently).
Lud and Art start dating shortly after, but they don't make it official until a little later. Arthur doesn't want to rush into another relationship, but after everything, Ludwig at least wanted to start acting on the feelings they had festering. But they take it slow.
Though Arthur occasionally wonders what it would have been like to have befriended HRE back then. If they may have grown feelings sooner. But he tries not to dwell on it. Ludwig is Ludwig and they're together now. That's what matters.

Another anon posted it, but this chapter was so sweet of like intimate details, and the intimacy, and intricacy between the dynamic of these four was so well written. Fully agreed. RP can be intensely intimate, platonically or otherwise; you are writing a story together.
Writing is almost entirely Of The Mind, structured and limited by language, both comprehension and conveyance, which are skills that build upon one another.
If you seek to expand yourself to new people, you will find them. Not all of them will communicate as smoothly as others. Some hit it off, others bounce off one another. That's okay. When you play together you have to share So Much, self select according to your own preferences and comfort.
If you play casually, seek others who like to play that way. If you take it super serious, find another mind who vibes with that. Ita 100% okay if your world can't just plug into someone else's, that's why we talk boundaries, content, concent, and base assumptions before diving in. Cause when you play Serious, you need the other person to know You Are Playing and be able to reassure them We Are Playing, and to ask "Is this still okay? Do you want to stop?" Because when engaged in intimacy it can be VERY DIFFICULT to articulate doubts or fears or anxities, and delays create shame of not speaking sooner, so its important to check in during a thread and be ready to accomodate changes or stop the whole thing and drop it like its radioactive because your partner found a trigger They Didn't Know About and are now having A Really Bad Time and may be too overwhelmed to say so.
Accept typos. Accept mess. Forgive misunderstanding. Seek resolution to conflict. Accomodate those who accomodate you, and kick away folks who place undue labor onto you such as demanding a uni degree's worth of knowledge before they'll even talk to you. Fuck them, they're not gonna be fun. They're just gonna make more demands. But the ones who say hello and take an interest in you as a human while also loving your writing together? Hold that person close and cherish them, cause That Is A Special Kind Of Intimate Cooperation that not everyone manages to find their way to experiencing in their lifetime.

The Chanoyu Hyaku-shu [茶湯百首], Part IV:  Poem 88.

〽 Mizusashi ni te-oke idasa-ba te ha yoko ni          mae no futa tori saki ni kasane yo
    [水指に手桶出さば手は橫に          前の蓋取り先に重ねよ].
    “If, as the mizusashi, a te-oke will be brought out, [orient] the handle side-to-side, so that the front lid [can] be taken up and stacked [on top of the other half-lid] on the far side.”

    The term te-oke [手桶] means a bucket with a handle.  The handle is fixed in place, and arches over the mouth of the bucket.  While the word can be used for any bucket with a handle that is made like this¹, in chanoyu it usually refers to such a bucket that was painted with shin-nuri.  This kind of bucket, called a shin te-oke [眞手桶], has been used as a mizusashi since 1489 -- when Yoshimasa used one for this purpose during the period of his brief second retirement.

    When Yoshimasa’s treasure house was burned down during the insurrection that precipitated the Ōnin wars, all of his cherished tea utensils were destroyed.  One of the only things to be recovered from the ruins was a lacquered te-oke of this sort² -- which had been used to carry water from the well to the residential apartments.  Yoshimasa, when he was finally able to resume the practice of chanoyu after retiring from the reins of government for the second time³, gathered together such relics of his past and arranged them on a naga-ita (since these pieces were not suitable for use on the daisu, on account of their size and make⁴), so he could use these (relatively) humble objects when serving tea to his closest intimates during his last months of life.  
    Yoshimasa placed this te-oke on the naga-ita, together with the large Temmyō kimen-buro and its kiri-kake gama, a shaku-tate, and the kakure-ka futaoki, that had formerly been used on the o-chanoyu-dana in the anteroom next to his private shoin⁵.  Yoshimasa died on the 7th day of the First Month of the following year (1490).
    Regarding the handling of the lid of the shin te-oke, the front half-lid is picked up and flipped over, and then lifted over the handle and rested on top of the far half-lid.  If it is simply rotated 180° (as some of the modern schools teach), the film of moisture that naturally condenses on the underside of the lid will cause it to stick to the other⁶, making it difficult (or at least unseemly) to separate the two half-lids when it comes time to close the te-oke at the end of the temae⁷.

    In the case of the text of this poem, all of the sources are in agreement -- which is hardly surprising since this mizusashi was rarely encountered (thus there have been few occasions for divergent teachings to arise⁸).

    A te-oke of this sort is said to have been owned by Shukō, though whether he used it as a mizusashi on his o-chanoyu-dana*, or for the purpose of carrying water to his cell from the temple’s well, is still being debated by scholars. ___________ *Shukō had a wood-floored area that ran across the width of his 2-mat cell, on the side of the room opposite the shōji.

    In one half of this space Shukō arranged his utensils as if on an o-chanoyu-dana, while he hung his Engo bokuseki (usually referred to as the Nagare-Engo [流れ圜悟] bokuseki today; the honshi [本紙] of this scroll, together with a view of Shukō’s hyōgu [表具], are shown below), arranged his flowers, and burned incense in the other half.

    His cell, on the grounds of the Shōmyō-ji [稱名寺] in Nara, is popularly known as the Shukō-an [珠光庵].

    The present room (which is a 3-mat room with a sode-kabe and naka-bashira, was intended to be used as if it were a 2-mat daime chashitsu -- though it can also be expanded to the size of a 4.5-mat room by removing the fusuma at the foot of the room) was reconstructed during the Edo period to accommodate the demands of the chanoyu that was being practiced at that time.  Shukō’s room, as illustrated on the left, was a 2-mat room with a 1-shaku 5-sun deep board-floored area extending along one side.
    Virtually all of the pre-Edo period chashitsu that “survive” into the present were redesigned in the same way -- so that it is often difficult to visualize the way the rooms would have appeared, and actually been used, by the chajin who designed them.  (That said, this does not preclude the modern schools from explaining how this was done, in great detail -- though this is always according to their own preferred practices, rather than the way of doing things followed by their creators.)
²The shin te-oke shown above, which was made by a highly respected lacquer craftsman, is supposed to be an exact copy of Yoshimasa’s te-oke.
³This was after finally naming his brother’s son, Yoshitane [義稙; 1466 ~ 1523], as his heir (following the death of Yoshimasa’s own son, Yoshihisa [義尚; 1465 ~ 1489], in the early summer of 1489).  Ironically, it was over this very issue of bringing his brother’s line into the succession that the Ōnin wars were fought.
    Yoshitane was formally installed as sei-i tai-shōgun [征夷大將軍] during the summer of the following year (1490).
⁴Some, like the large iron Temmyō-buro, were too large (it was made to be used on the o-chanoyu-dana, and so was more than 1-sun larger than the furo that was supposed to be used on the large daisu*); and, in addition, an iron furo was not appropriate for use on the daisu in any case, even if its size was correct.  
    Other things, like the seiji-unryū mizusashi, were unsuitable because they were imperfect (while the body of the mizusashi was recovered intact from the fire, its lid had been broken; and although Yoshimasa had ordered a celadon-blue-lacquered wooden lid that replicated the original in every detail, the fact was that the mizusashi was now diminished, in his eyes†, and so could never be used as it had been used before).

    And again, others, like the shin te-oke that we are considering in this post, were blatantly utilitarian objects that had never been intended for use in chanoyu, so that they were inherently inappropriate to the formality of the daisu setting.
    By arranging these pieces on the naga-ita (which had been made from the ten-ita of Yoshimasa’s daisu -- the ji-ita of which had been burned beyond any thought of repair in the fire), Yoshimasa was acknowledging that his current state of chanoyu was a mere reflection, an imperfect memory, of what he had done in the past. ___________ *While it might, in theory, have been possible to make a new daisu that would permit this furo to be used, such a daisu would not have been able to sit in between the heri of the utensil mat, and so could not be used in Yoshimasa’s shoin.
    These points were extremely critical for the kind of chanoyu that Yoshimasa had been taught to practice -- even if they sometimes seem odd to us (who unavoidably view such particulars in light of the teachings of the modern schools where, for example, the out-sized ji-ita of copies of Sōtan’s “wabi” daisu, which was cobbled together from pieces of several old daisu of non-standard dimensions, rests on top of the heri on the katte-side of the utensil mat).
†It was a widely-held belief -- especially among chajin -- that using damaged or imperfect utensils was ill-omened, as if the misfortune of their damage could be communicated to the participants like some sort of karmic disease.  It required a major shift in social values (encouraged, in this case, by the Tokugawa bakufu) before repaired damage morphed into an aesthetic positive, a declaration of the object’s antiquity, and so merit.  (Though it should also be pointed out that this sensibility is not universally shared by all practicing chajin, even today.)
⁵These were among the only utensils that survived the conflagration, since they were on the o-chanoyu-dana rather than in storage, in Yoshimasa’s treasure house.
    This large Temmyō kimen-buro is the same one that eventually came into Nobunaga’s hands; and for which, after it was badly cracked in the fire at the Honnō-ji, Rikyū created the original small unryū-gama.
⁶Through hygroscopic forces.  Natural lacquer is highly hydrophilic -- indeed, near 100% relative humidity is necessary for lacquer to dry properly.  The same phenomenon is responsible for the lids sticking together -- through the formation of hydrogen bonds between the water molecules and the lacquer.
⁷While some schools argue that the shin te-oke should only be used with the ro, it is important to point out that there was no ro until Jōō’s middle period, yet the shin te-oke had been used for chanoyu for almost a half century by that time.
    Likewise, resting the hishaku across the top of the handle* was an idea that appeared during the Edo period, and has no historical validity when we are considering practices that appeared prior to that point in time. ___________ *This seems to be the actual reason why the schools that uphold the teaching that the shin te-oke should only be used with the ro, do so.  If the hishaku is rested on top of the te-oke, its handle will touch (or at least come disconcertingly close to) the side of the furo, so that the arrangement will look odd and out-of-balance.
⁸Indeed, the same teaching is repeated countless times by both Jōō and Rikyū, in their various densho and other writings.
    Until the Edo period, copies of the ancient utensils were almost never made, thus this teaching pertained specifically to the “original” shin te-oke -- in other words, the one that had belonged to Yoshimasa.  The shin te-oke produced since the Edo period were, therefore, originally intended to be (more or less) exact copies of the original.  Versions that deviate from the classical models (such as those te-oke painted red with polished silver hoops) largely began to appear only in the 20th century (at the same time that the major schools were arguing that the entire suite of utensils should be changed each time chanoyu is performed in front of guests).

“Your majesty!!!” 
“MOM! MOM!” Your twelve-year-old son, Titus, shouted running up the stairs of the curtain wall. 
You turned around quickly at his voice and gave him an angry look. “What are you doing here?!” You stormed toward him. A guard followed up the stairs and stopped seeing you talking to your son. You gave him a look as well, “Take him back to the Keep!” 
“I did your majesty, the young prince escaped my grasp!” The guard bowed his head to you. You sighed in frustration and Titus stepped away from you. 
“Mom let me help! I have a sword, General Marcus taught me how to use it!” Titus pulled out a long sword and smirked. 
Your eyes grew wide and you turned to the general who looked away from you. “Titus...” 
“Mom please, I wanna help!” 
“It’s too dangerous.” You scolded him, “And where did you get that sword!” 
“Hey, that’s mine!” The guard gasped. 
You pinched the bridge of your nose, this is not what you needed right before battle. “Tite, redi nunc ad custodiam! (Titus, go back to the keep, now!)” You ordered your son in your native tongue. Titus pouted and walked back over to the guard and handed him the sword back. “Do you remember your archery lessons?” You asked him. 
“Yes.” Titus answered. 
You walked over to one of the archers and took their spare bow and quiver of arrows. “Come.” You said to Titus. Your son walked over to you and you handed him the bow and arrow. “Get up to the balcony of the keep with the guard. If our enemy breaches the walls and heads to the keep, you shoot as fast as you can. Understood?” You said firmly. 
“Ita mater (Yes mother).” Titus nodded and ran off to join the guard back to the Keep. “Is...Is she going to be okay?” Titus asked the guard. 
“She is our great and powerful queen, she will be just fine.” The guard nodded. 
You watched the two leave and turned back to the ocean miles from the shore that led to your castle. You pulled out your scope and zoomed in on the waters. You saw a figure walking out of the ocean with orange feathers. 
“My queen, what do you see?” General Marcus asked you. 
“Our enemy is making their way.” You put the scope away and gestured for the archer to ready their arrows. 
“And who is that?” Marcus watched you. 
“Talokan.” You said firmly and Marcus’ eyes grew wide. 
“Why are they after us? I thought they kept to themselves?” The general pulled out his sword. 
You didn’t answer and readied your sword when you saw the Talokan army charging toward your castle. The arches fired the arrows and it managed to slow the army down a little bit. The warriors climbed up the walls and began to attack your knights. You charged toward them and fought against four of them, you pushed them back and killed them. 
“Reina guerrera! (Warrior Queen!)” You heard someone shout and turned to see the great General Attuma on your right. He twirled his spear and walked toward you. 
“Attuma.” You gripped the handle of your sword tightly and braced for his attack. Attuma clashed his spear against your sword. Your weapons clashed and you were strong enough to push him back. Attuma stepped back slightly then charged at you, stabbing the spearhead in your stomach. He smirked and gripped the spear tightly, watching you gasp for breath. 
You gasped at first then your eyes flashed blue and the veins in your body shined a blue glow slightly. You gripped the spear and kicked Attuma in the stomach to push him back. You pulled out the spear and threw it to him. He was amazed...Not a drop of blood from the wound. 
Namora saw this too and noticed your warriors weren’t dying from the battle. You charged toward him and Namora intercepted your attack. You grabbed her arm and kicked the back of her knees so she could fall onto them. “Yield now! Send your people back and no more blood has to be shed.” You growled. 
“Retroceder! (Fall back!)” Namora shouted and you released her. 
As quick as they invaded, they retreated and you checked in on your general. 
“Is it really over?” Marcus panted. 
“No. They’ll try again.” You helped him up.

Night fell and you stood at the top of the curtain wall with the patrolling guards. You and your warriors were gifted with impenetrable skin but your people...Your people were vulnerable. You heard small steps running the steps again. “Titus.” You simply said. 
“Can I...Can I stay up here with you mom?” His voice was small and worried. 
“Aye.” You nodded. 
Titus walked over and stood next to you. “Why are the water people attacking us? Marcus has been wondering.” 
“General Marcus, my son. The Talokan King is after our stone. You remember what the stone does?” 
“It grants impenetrability.” 
“Correct.” 
“Momma, why can’t I hold it and see if I can get the gift? What about the other people?” Titus asked curiously. 
“The stone is the one that chooses the bearer of the power. Our people have tried but some are not given the gift. But they understand because they know I love them all just the same and I will protect them always.” 
“And me?” 
“You are not at the right age yet.” You lied. 
But Titus wasn’t stupid though but he decided he would let it be for now. “You would think that the Talokan army would’ve been more prepared.” Titus scoffed. 
“They were just testing to see if the rumors were true. I anticipate them coming in the dead of night.” 
“Oh, that’s why you’re here...” 
You just nodded. 
Titus was silent and moved his hand to hold yours. “It’ll be okay.” 
You turned to look at him and smiled softly, Titus was a strong boy and a sweet one. “Thank you.” You pulled him in for a hug. 
Titus hugged you back tightly, “Momma...Can I stay up here with you?” 
“...I suppose. But when I tell you to go, you go, okay?”

It was midnight now and you were more on edge than before. Your guards were stationed by the Keep and at towers. Titus patrolled the long path of the curtain wall with General Marcus. You felt the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and felt the tip of a spear at your back. “Audaz u a nu'ukulil, Namora. (Bold of you, Namora).” You hissed. 
“Ma' a péeksik wa yaan in meentik u Attuma ataque a waal. (Do not move or I will have Attuma attack your son)” Namora warned. 
You spun around quickly and grabbed Namora’s spear and head-butted her. She stumbled back and you kicked her hard in the stomach then pointed the spear at her. “Ta'ab Attuma wa leti' kíimil! (Come out Attuma or she dies!)” You shouted and Attuma revealed himself immediately. He stood there and waited. But what was he waiting for? 
You furrowed your brows then your ears began to hear the hypnotic song sung by the Talokans that were climbing the walls. You froze, succumbing to the song. 
Attuma walked over to you and helped Namora up. He took the spear from your hand and handed it back to Namora. “Yaan k bisik le Ku. ku. lkán jáan. (Let's take her to Ku'ku'lkán quickly.)” Attuma said and moved to pull you to him. He stopped when an arrow was fired and lodged in the back of his thigh. 
“Get away from my mom!” Titus screamed and aimed another arrow at Attuma’s back. He fired it and Attuma tired around to catch the arrow and broke it in half. He pulled out the arrow on the back of his thigh and cracked his knuckles. 
“Oh shit!” Titus yelled and continued to fire his arrows while backing away. 
Namora smacked you in the back of your head to knock you out. 
Attuma grabbed Titus by the collar of his tunic and lifted him up from the ground. He was about to toss Titus over the wall when he noticed his ears. Attuma’s eyes grew wide as he realized the point in Titus’ ears. “Ka na'atiko' ba'ax táan in wa'alik. (Do you understand what I'm saying?)” Attuma narrowed his eyes at the boy. 
Titus didn’t listen and struggled in his grip, “Let me go! Leave my mom alone!” 
“Namora!” Attuma shouted and the female warrior walked over. 
“U xikino'ob. Paakat le. (His ears. Look at them.)” Attuma said. 
“Ku. ku. lkán...” Namora gasped. 
“Hey what are you talking about?!” Titus struggled and managed to grab the arrow from his quiver and stabbed it into Attuma’s hand. 
Attuma grunted in pain and dropped the boy. Titus made a run for it toward the towers. Namora was about to follow but Attuma stopped him. “Bis le. Tu perseguiré. (Take her. I will hunt him down.)” Attuma said and began to chase after Titus. 
Namora called for one of the Talokans to help her carry you back to the waters. 
Meanwhile, Attuma was on the hunt for Titus...
