The Bursar hesitated. The Archchancellor tended to combine wooden-headed stupidity with distressing insight.

Philosophical wisdom is the philosophizer's quite personal affair. It must arise as his wisdom, as his self-acquired knowledge tending toward universality, a knowledge for which he can answer from the beginning, and at each step, by virtue of his own absolute insights.
Edmund Husserl, Cartesian Meditations

Whenever someone says something along the ones of “crazy people don’t know they’re crazy” or “you can’t be psychotic if you’re aware of it” as a way to invalidate someone’s mental state i think back to my first psychotic episode and how I was vaguely aware of it, yet i still went through a severe episode of psychosis.
It was a very sudden episode but there were some early warning signs. In the early prodromal stage I was able to tell that something was wrong. I was not thinking clearly, I couldn’t sleep or eat, I hallucinated voices, and I even tried googling if I was having a mental break. I was aware something was wrong with me and I could easily tell I was slipping into some kind of psychotic break. Otherwise I would not have reached out to an advice nurse for help.
As the psychosis progressed and i became more detached from reality, my awareness went away, with delusional and paranoid thoughts taking its place. But even as the acute stage of psychosis came to an end, i found myself trying to fight my delusions. I reality checked myself often via journaling, and i vaguely understood that what I believed was not grounded in reality. Regardless, I was still in psychosis.
My point is that having insight, or being aware of your mental state, doesn’t mean you can’t experience a mental break. Not everyone with psychosis is unaware of their disorder and it’s normal to have at least some level of awareness.

Mindfulness may help you gain insight into your role in conflicts with others, it won’t single-highhandedly help you resolve them.
