I also need to mention his child, Issac. This made me f*ing cry. Cad was born as an orphan, only finding comfort out in the streets with only one friend. Lazlo, acting as a surrogate father figure/mentor to the boys, sparks their - well, Cad’s interest in money, the only thing they can use to get human needs. The boys are separated by the law, Cad running into the shuttle due to fear and flaire from the idea of credits. He grows up surrounded by a man who only sees living life as a business opportunity. It’s in Arin, his girl, who treats him like a normal person that sparks the human side of him that is slowly shown in the CW and BB. She is everything to him, the symbol for his humanity, yet he cannot shake the feeling of who he is, whose he’s meant to be. Lazlo is dead and when Cad goes to foolishly take revenge on the man who raised him, he loses the girl he loves in his arms. He’s not even given a moment to take revenge in hatred and saddeness. He’s taken away as an unknown prisoner in judgement.
When he comes back to his home to find his girl, his beautiful last string of humanity, she’s gone. Dead, not from a blaster wound, but merely passed away without any purpose. Niro killed her, killed him/his humanity and he will not let anyone take his place again. He kills Niro, the person who’s been by his side since the death of his parents. He watches as his own son cries upon the dead body of his adopted father and look at him with tears. He cannot look into the eyes of his child, the one he and Arin created and comfort him. Cad can never forgive himself and the world will never let him. He knows that his son will grow up hating him. If even a child, an innocent child can look up at their father and see a murderer, a killer and a monster, what point is there is even trying?
This is why he never takes another person’s emotions into his heart, why he focuses on himself and his pride. He was given an opportunity in a sick world that only wanted him dead to have a future, live and one day, die against a beautiful sunset, soul content and he couldn’t take it. It was his pride, his arrogance and his purpose that broke him. If that is what matters, then he will make sure that is all that matters.
Tales of the Underworld Was Amazing…
Remember when I said I would love it no matter what?
Well I do!
I cried, I pondered and I even laughed at a few moments! Ventress was great - enjoyed her story! I’ve never read Dark Disciple, but I wish they could make a prequel series of that to explains why Ventress is dead set on Quinlan Vos! You have the story, just put it to picture! Lyco, he was okay! Just another annoying young kid with little manners and somehow gains Ventress’ respect. Like, throw him off the camel, Ventress…whyyy.
We know who the star of the show is though…
Tales of the Underworld Episodes 4-6 brought us what I think is the most unique story we’ve ever gotten. A 3 act structure following Cad Bane’s fall to villainy that felt like a classic spaghetti western series with an unfleshed out intimacy that could have definitely been shown more if this was a Bane series, but it’s okay! His relationship with Niro was great, his….
HIS….
Yeah…maybe figure it out when you see it. Pay attention to Bane’s friend in episode 5, how she’s holding herself when walking into the door. I noticed that immediately. This also ties into the ending!
The story is great! I was a little lost by the narrative, but rewatched it and now understand the purpose! It may not have the time to explain everything, it does a great job with keeping you engaged! Corey Burton is great once again as our gunslinging anti-hero. There’s another hat-welder in this series who serves as a Lee Vanth Cleef that inspires Cad. I always wondered if Cad watched The Good, The Bad and The Ugly as a child, saw Lee and said, “Hey mum! Find me a hat, will ye? I’m growin’ up in style.”
While this both added new details, actually copied the exact last frame of Part 3 of my series - which is clever! It fades out before it stops, almost showing that “hey! His journey isn’t over yet!” and unfortunately messed some things up, it was still a fantastic watch! Now I need to figure out whether or not I should stick to what I built or use Tales! The goals of being a writer, am I right??👍
Once again, this inspired me to write! So, thank you Lucasfilm and May the Forth Be With Everyone here on Tumblr!

Behold, Cad and Ember's bastard love child all grown up....and deciding to become a private investigator instead of the family business of bounty hunting.
They're actually a pretty chill person (if a bit awkward at times) but they're trying their best to make a name for themselves and not become an absolute asshole like their dad (despite having a similar style)
even though their existence can't happen due to Ember's biological limitations, this is a fun concept I like too much to ignore.

Star Wars Tales of the Underworld Thoughts
"No one needs to die. You're right, he was my friend but that was a long time ago. Things have changed. We both have." Niro
Tumblr media
Overall, like the previous Tales shows, this was a good series of short poems. However, I find Bane's shorts to be a complete set, while I found Ventress' shorts to be incomplete. But the two stories tell two divergent paths between the birth of one of the most infamous bounty hunters and the renewal of life for a former assassin.
The Kiners (as usual) give us awesome music with Ventress' and Bane's themes. The animation and textures are really amazing, and at times, it's really hard to tell when something is animated or live-action.
The cold open of A Way Forward was animated and paced really well. I really love how they recreated the ending of Dark Disciple and finally gave us the answer to how Asajj was resurrected. To be honest, the cold open is where the Ventress' shorts peaked.
Ventress' friendship with Lyco is really fun, and I like Lyco's character. At least the Inquisitor got to do something before getting killed.
The action in Episode 2 is pretty brutal, and never underestimate a droid indeed. Episode 3 has a nice lesson, and seeing a CIS veteran is nice.
The main flaw of the Ventress shorts is that they don't have a conclusion, and to me personally, they aren't an overview of Ventress' life with time skips.
The Bane shorts really give a great look into how Cad Bane, or rather Colby, became the infamous bounty hunter. Colby first takes small steps into the underworld, which slowly melts his heart until he becomes the remorseless killer we see him in every other Star Wars story. That look of realization and the mercy given to Issac (the fact that he's heavily implied to be Colby's son is just depressing) at the end of the third short is the last time any trace of Colby is there, but from then on, Cad Bane the bounty hunter is firmly born. That act of mercy and leaving was truly Bane's one good deed.
The tragedy of Colby and Niro's friendship hits hard. The first short makes it clear that the two were the best of friends and even brothers, despite not being blood-related. All it took was them to be separated into two different lives for their friendship and brotherhood to fall apart.
Overall, this was a good series of shorts, with Bane's being great and Ventress' feeling incomplete.
"I was a commander in the Separatist Alliance, in the war against the Republic and Jedi Knights. I was Count Dooku's lead assassin. And I probably killed several people that you know personally. My name is Asajj Ventress." Asajj Ventress"

I love you, Transformers Human Sidekicks!! They could never make me hate you, Transformers Human Sidekicks!!!!
These are the versions of them I'm using (potentially) in my Fan Continuity. It was fun trying to get their facial features to work in my style and to look like they could potentially be from the same thing lmao.
Only Mo and Raf are kids for story reasons, and I'm still trying to get Sam, Jack, Cody, Simmons, and Dani looking right so just pretend they're there lmao, I'll update it later.
Row 1: Miko Nakadai, Sari Sumdac, Carly Spencer, Dot Malto, Alice, Mikaela Banes, Alexis Thi Dang
Row 2: June Darby, Elena Wallace, Issac Sumdac, Alex Malto, Noah Diaz, Chase "Chip" Esquivel (Only standing for reference purposes, he's a wheelchair user)
Row 3: Carmine Fanzone, Chuck Burns, Denny Clay, Mo Malto, Rafael Esquivel, William Fowler

Cad Bane's story is a tragedy from the start. I wish I could say more about the 3 episodes. But that guy shot my boys Hunter and Cobb (and among other bad stuff), I hard time following his story, I'm sorry! 😭
Tumblr media
But the Western shoot-out and soundtrack never gets old. I feel bad for Issac and I fear the cycle will only continue.

Updated Tales Series Rankings
Count Dooku: I don't have to explain to you how great this is. The worst part is that Lucasfilm doesn't have a place to build on the amazing story they brought to life via animation. The beauty that is Dooku: Jedi Lost and the parts of Dooku explored in Dark Disciple are seemingly never going to be expounded upon in any medium moving forward.
Asajj Ventress: Sure, episode 2 didn't really give us much. But episodes 1 and 3 definitely honed in on Ventress as a character for the first time in a while. She is such a fascinating character. But, what really sets her story above the rest for me is that it clearly is the setup of future stories involving Quinlan Voss (ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!) and The Hidden Path. It is the only one that makes me excited for future content. And it successfully handles the continuity issues involving Dark Disciple which reared their head when she made her appearance in The Bad Batch. I almost wouldn't even call it a retcon per se, just a smartly crafted continuation.
Barriss Offee: Thank God I liked Bariss's trilogy as much as I did because otherwise, TOTE would have really dampened the success of TOTJ. Barriss' episodes did a great job at not only continuing her story, but giving insight into how the Inquisitors operate. Her "return to the light" was compelling in the 45 minutes provided, and her role as The Healer is unique. Barriss, much like Ahsoka and Anakin, is a character who is supposed to make you question the ethics of the Jedi Order. And they do so beautifully with her trilogy. I look forward to seeing more of her story.
Cad Bane: Cad Bane's trilogy may be the second best at fleshing out a character's story by diving deeper into a personal origin story (this is of course second to only Dooku's trilogy, which functions as his Sith origin story, and not a traditional origin story from birth, like done for Ahsoka's trilogy). The age old story of two childhood friends becoming foes is incredibly Star Wars, except these two have no force sensitivity at all. They are like the rest of us. The end culminating around Issac is heartbreaking, but promising. I will certainly be on the lookout for a blue Duros in future projects! Even as someone that is not all that into westerns, Cad Bane's outlaw vibe always lands sooo well for me.
Ahsoka Tano: My biggest problem with Ahsoka's trilogy is that she was not actually the highlight of her own trilogy for most of the three episodes imo. Instead, I found the stories of other featured characters, like Anakin and the clones, and Bail and the state of the rebellion to be much more interesting. Her standout episode for me was definitely Practice Makes Perfect where Anakin absolutely ran her through the ringer with drills only to end in seeing her and Rex moments before they stepped out amongst the rest of the 212 during Order 66 as shown in the series finale of The Clone Wars. And even though looking back it was clear that Filoni wanted to save many things for the Ahsoka series, I still wish we had more intriguing stories about Ahsoka. For example, if one of the episodes were the flashbacks Ahsoka saw in the world between worlds in her show, I would have been very satisfied. That seemed like a perfect fit for the Tales Series that we missed out on.
Morgan Elsbeth: Maybe there are some Morgan Elsbeth fans. I don't mean to demean you at all. But I have yet to come across anyone that gives a shit about Morgan. I really think they picked the wrong character for this series. I don't remember a single thing that happened in her trilogy, other than we got an origin story for her. Don't ask me what it is. All I know is that she is Dathomiri. I think you have to pick characters that people know enough about to be interested in learning more. And Morgan Elsbeth ain't it. She was a low point in Ahsoka, and her Tales story did nothing for me. She hasn't been intriguing to me since her introduction in The Mandalorian. If I didn't make myself clear: I never cared about Morgan Elsbeth, and this trilogy actually made me care less about her. I am all about seeing more characters from Dathomir, it's a fascinating planet. But, I haven't been sold on Morgan Elsbeth.

Bye Niro you're dead
There's a character. Named ISAAC. in STAR WARS. they didn't even change the spelling.
i really like how the brewing storm is built up
oh the old shop…
There are so many Duros with different shapes and sizes!
(゜o゜; I thought Bane's the one that cut off Arin because he thought she betrayed him
yeah i guess from his pov i can see why Bane wants to kill Niro more than ever
Bane's sentence is 12 - 15 years for MURDERING a marshall?!

this child is not only in the front row he doesn't even have a seatbelt on let alone a car seat (unrelated, this could never happen in japanese show)
"Not everything" WOAH THAT camera shift

The music is phenomenal
At least Niro built a community where Issac would be taken care of… 😢

Me and my friend have gone on a new expedition of watching through Phoenix Drop Days together, because we are both 20+ and are not able to handle what middle school us could handle in cringe in raw form anymore and need each other to act as buffers.
But I told her we should watch it because I got through the first episode on my own and was like "oh this is actually...not as bad as the other ones?? Wow okay!" and also because I knew my friend would lose her mind over Mr. Diaz.
The big things we got out of it was us deciding Hunter is a trans man, Issac looks and acts like a Danvis love child which is so weird because he's older than both of them, Annabelle and Brianna are girlfriends, Soona is great, we despise what they are doing with Kurt and Ruby is the bane of our fucking existance.
Also my friend lost her fucking mind when I told her that Jonah-fucking-Scott voices Hunter, which I mean I did too, cause it still blows my mind how Jess got like, BIG TIME VAS for some of her stuff.
But anyways we made it through episodes 1-4 in our little binge and I can say that Phoenix Drop Days is unironically probably the most normal and best rp series that is on their channel.

Hmm I can’t speak for others but it’s Jason Issac’s voice for me, damn him for voicing Gortash so well *shakes fist* 😂 but in all seriousness, I think it’s the intrigue with his past for most people, his past/timeline is littered all over Act 3 and you can piece together how he came to be the Chosen of Bane and why he is the way he is. It’s tragic and enthralling all wrapped into one, it’s not really about his looks per say, more so the charisma and intellect that allowed him to rise to the position of Archduke from literally nothing, through all sorts of (mainly ruthless) means. It’s grotesque and fascinating all in one! He’s a horrid person, but there was always that whole “if he would’ve been treated kindly he would’ve been incredible” lurking in the back of peoples minds. The villains in BG3 are so three dimensional that you almost feel sorry for them and wish we could help like we do with our companions, but they’re all just too far gone by the time we meet them.
Also there’s the potential enemies to lovers trope for normal Tav, and forgotten my love trope for Durge.
That’s my thoughts on it anyway! TL;DR It starts off with fascination of the tragic backstory and turns into simping along the way with the help of the voice actor lol we hate ourselves for it TRUST. 😂
Thank you for the response btw! Really enjoyed reading it and fully thinking about it.
I definitely feel for him in a way regarding his backstory. I’m not sure if I got everything on my first playthrough, however, I am now playing as Durge and I suppose I am going to be getting a lot more information now?
This and other responses definitely have given me lots to think about and to appreciate the villains even more than I already had.
I completely agree with what you said about them being three dimensional. BG3/Larian Studios has really made some wonderful interesting characters and they/the writers deserve any and all praise or awards they receive.
I really really really love this game

Like if trump, and musk and Joel Osteen got stirred up Powerpuff girls style and then Stupid Sexy Bane came along and knocked "Jason Issac: Charisma over 9000" into the vat.
Like the only thing saving him is that hes hot and does have a tragic rags to riches backstory.
I do love Gortash as much as the next simp. But I wanted to be sure we're all on the same page and aware that as smart as he is...
He stole all the best ideas attributed to him.
Steel Watch- Gondian (credit he did figure out how to integrate illithid components and make them "better" robots)
Grand Design- the plans were sitting right next to the crown when they broke in.
The Crown of Karsus- you know Raphael put that idea in his head.
In fact the only invention of his own that I couldn't find evidence he stole from someone else was the Mind Archive Interface. And maybe the Fabricated Arbalest
Wouldn't be surprised if he had a Charlatan background.
