okay. some of my thoughts. on the 2017 Death Note Netflix movie. (spoiler warning for both the movie and the manga/anime. and also. long)
bold/italicized is direct comparisons to manga/anime/misc reference material. Netflix!Light will be referred to as Turner and manga/anime!Light as Yagami. Mostly in chronological order? I think??? I don't know and I don't care.
Light Turner. Doing other kid's homework and getting punched and then ending up in detention for doing other kid's homework? Wouldn't the other kids be the ones in trouble??
WHY IS RYUK TEARING UP THE PLACE. Also Turner screaming is so funny.
Mia. Oh my gosh. I do not care. EXCEPT WHAT? I don't even know.
Immediately killing the guy who punched you at school? DECAPITATED WITH A LADDER??? The excessive gory deaths kind of defeat the point of the Death Note being like this quiet and detached way of killing. Light Yagami separates himself so much from Kira/convinces himself he is in the right partially because he doesn't see these kinds of deaths. He thinks of himself as silently erasing evil people, hence his usage of heart attacks specifically. And one of his first thoughts having the Death Note was to not kill anyone he knew personally.
Ryuk is just telling him all the rules he needs to know? Yagami is able to piece together different rules by what Ryuk casually drops and that's how he's able to carry out the bus hijacking. He doesn't need him spelling it out for him.
Also I guess it's implied that the Death Note *needs* to be owned by a human at all times? And Ryuk is just the carrier of it? And he's threatening to give it to someone worse than Turner? Why is Ryuk this menacing force to move the plot? The most he does in the manga/anime is tell Yagami he is being followed by Raye Penber. And he has no real reason for dropping the Death Note other than he was bored and wanted to see what would happen, there was no obligation. For some reason, they tried really hard to make Turner into this more sympathetic main character. Yagami is initially very disturbed by his killings, but chooses to make HIMSELF obligated to continue killing with it for the sake of his new world that he believes only HE is capable of creating.
"Hi Mia! My name is Light Turner. Here's my Death Note and here's how it works, wanna make out and eat popcorn and kill people? I love you girlfriend! Mwah!"
Only the owner of the notebook can see Ryuk? Anyone can touch it without being aware of the shinigami?
THE PAGE TEARING. MY GOODNESS. Being able to tear out and destroy one page in order to save someone's life has the same, if not more ridiculous, kind of issue the death eraser had in the pilot chapter. This weird hyper-specific rule allowing a person to be saved defeats the theme of the Death Note's permanence and the decisions made with it. Once you kill someone, they are dead. No going back. That is one of the main points of Death Note.
Turner has an Alienware laptop. Also he flips out on his dad for no reason and I headcanon he was mean to his mom when she was alive as well. AND SAYU DOES NOT EXIST.
He named HIMSELF Kira. That's for real his edgy oc. "It means 'light' in Russian and Celtic 😏.... and also kinda sounds like killer in Japanese... just to throw them off!" KIRA DOES NOT MEAN LIGHT IN RUSSIAN OR CELTIC? At least from my research, if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know!
Making an inmate in every continent write something about Kira being god in "perfect Japanese". It's highly unlikely these people specifically know perfect Japanese, and Turner has no way of knowing if they do? Yagami literally tests this and proves that a person whose name is written in the Death Note cannot share information they personally don't know.
I don't even know what's going on. How does L know Kira has connections to the police? Wouldn't one of the first deaths being the guy who killed his mom be a lot more of a clue than making 12 agents all walk off a building together in unison? AND TURNER DID NOT EVEN DO THIS. RYUK WROTE THEIR NAMES. Originally, Ryuk is almost in the position of the viewer, a passive spectator with little influence on Yagami's actions, but with access to the thoughts and plans he shares with him. Ryuk was not the driving force of Death Note, Yagami was.
Watari sings to L? Okay. And his one character trait is that sleep is important. Okay. I guess someone read the One Day oneshot?? With the emphasis of Watari knowing how many hours L has slept.
After Turner's dad appears on TV, giving away his face and name and speaking against Kira, MIA is the one to try to kill him? And Turner is the one to stop her? One of Yagami's first considerations being Kira and using the Death Note is that he may have to kill his own family. He gets his father killed and nearly decides to kill his own sister. Wouldn't it make more sense for Turner to initially go to kill his dad, but have Mia stop him to try to remind him of his own morals?
Mia. She reminds me of Misa from the Love Note parody. I understand wanting to try to undo some of the misogynistic writing of the original story, but her and Turner's dynamic just feels so unbalanced and messy?? They try to present Turner as being this super smart but cool kid, but Mia is this almost Disney character level of "stereotypical cool girl".
Every other line of dialogue has some variation of the f word in it (the swear not the slur lol). It just feels so unserious. Have you heard of the game Forspoken? This is like if you Forspoke Death Note (I know Forspoken came out 6 years after this film, but this kind of writing has only become more prevalent I think.)
WATARI IS NOT HIS NAME. IT'S NOT EVEN A FULL NAME. WRITING WATARI IN THE DEATH NOTE WOULD DO NOTHING.
Why does Wammy's House look like it's 500 years old?? Why are there fun house looking torture rooms? I know Turner is controlling Watari into giving him this information, but really?? The original purpose of Wammy's House was not to pump out detective orphans. It was a school for gifted children until L came along and then it was changed to create successors to him, at least that's my understanding. I know it's slightly different across the LABB and Change the WorLd.
If you don't write a cause of death Ryuk just gets to decide?? What is going on. What happened to the heart attacks?
L is SO emotional. Not in a somber, introspective, Change The WorLd way, in a very loud and overt way. Also he just appears in the Turners' house out of nowhere? Lol.
Turner's dad freaks and puts L in a poorly done headlock? L knows capoeira and Mr Turner is about the same size as him. I get that he's distraught over Watari's disappearance but Mr Turner would probably be on the floor before he could get his arm around him.
On that note, Turner's dad being so defensive of him. Does this guy really think there is not even a possibility of being kira? Yagami and his dad have a much more complex relationship than the turners. Yagami would not snap and yell at his dad and then have his dad turn around and violently defend him. In the manga, Yagami's dad specifically defends Sayu, but not Yagami. His dad goes back and forth, between accepting his son could be Kira and desperately hoping he's not.
"It's not black and white.... sometimes we have to choose the lesser of two evils...." Turner keeps going back and forth between his Kira ego trip and "oh nooo.... Ryuk is so evil.... I need to protect the world from someone worse than me!" LIGHT YOU ARE THE WORSE EVIL. Maybe I am misunderstanding the point. But that... does not feel like the point of Death Note.
The prom??? Mia stole the Death Note and is going to disguise Turner with a goofy top hat? bro got decked trying to break up a fight in the first five minutes, but no one is going to even point out his Lincoln hat?
The shinigami eyes just do not exist I guess. okay.
Turner and L's meeting and the chase scene is just so funny. Let's take the multiple layers of mind games and mental gymnastics between L and Yagami and turn it inside out. A quiet meeting in the corner of a cafe, a psychological battle disguised as a casual meeting after a tennis match, is now whatever this is. A loud argument in which Turner basically outs himself as being Kira under the threat of Ryuk giving the Death Note to someone worse than him. Now L is just running after Turner with a gun and they're slamming stuff around and running into traffic and people. it's just... messy? It's messy. These guys are just making a mess.
Let's go to the ferris wheel! Also, Light Turner is going to die at midnight.
RYUK IS CHEWING ON THE CABLES LIKE A HAMSTER. THIS WHEEL IS GOING DOWN! and Mia wrote Turner's name! So he wrote her name! This feels like if the Kiras had a stupid content creator drama. They're so mad at each other but ooohhhh they love each other whaaaa.... they're gonna fall and die noooo!!!!!
Mia has an Ophelia Hamlet moment. and Turner lives by the world's most logical logic (/sarcasm). His page was burned before he could be killed! Where did the fire come from? But they fell into the water??? I don't know anymore.
Who returned Turner's notebook? Was it his dad? Was it anyone relevant to the plot? WRONG! IT'S SOME MAILMAN! The most logical logic, everyone.
"Sometimes we have to choose the lesser of two evils...." Okay. I don't think that's the point here. Turner's dad is bent on catching this murderer until he finds out it's his son, who just flat out tells him his whole plan and how he ended up here. Like that's all you have to say to that? What?
THAT'S THE END? WHAT JUST HAPPENED? HELLO? CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?
the three things I liked about this film:
Ryuk's line "My name has four letters in it, closest anyone's ever gotten was two." (Cool sounding, but also shinigami cannot be killed by the Death Note, so why would it matter if his name was written in it?)
Watari giving Mr Turner an ice cream, directly referencing a scene in the anime. I just think it's nice. The ice cream does just disappear immediately as the scene continues though. I don't even know.
Light's dad appearing on TV and speaking out against Kira instead of the Lind L. Tailor thing. (I actually think that was a good idea, similar to Mello kidnapping Sayu to prove Kira's connection to the Yagamis, but without the use of traumatizing women to move the plot along.)
if I had to describe this in one word: messy.
if I had to describe this in a lot of words: I understand if you want to make a complete rewrite/retelling of the story and the world. New/different characters, new/different rules. But it's just written so weirdly. You're first watching or reading of Death Note may be confusing because of the character's different hidden plans and motivations. You might have to go back to certain points to clear things up. This film is confusing not for the 4dimensional mind chess but because there is none of that here. It is just confusing because it's written poorly. You could rewatch this a dozen times and still not be able to make sense of things. This is a funny alternate universe fanfiction that was written by Matsuda to try to make Ryuk the villain and Light the real misunderstood hero. I don't know.

"Confessions" and the Beginning
Hello fellow clowns, genuinely fucking unbelievable episode amiright?

I really did miss just like regular calls last season, it's nice just to have a random silly one to start an episode.

This man is going through the most insane confessions of his life. First Bobby saying he's a murderer and now Eddie saying that his son caught him with his dead mother like give this man a break lmao.

And this is the beginning of Eddie's thesis: what he deserves. More importantly, what he thinks he deserves.
Buck is literally like the most awkward man alive. He has zero game I love him sm.

It's interesting that he didn't even seem to consider taking the next step with Tommy until Josh brought it up. Also really interesting how he ends up framing their conversation later, like it's more of an "honoring Tommy" thing than a "I really want to move in with you" thing. Now this could just be awkward scripting or awkward (no game) Buck, but I think it's worth mentioning.
I just love Chim and Maddie so much they are my true north always.
Eddie's tank top? Yeah make that an everyday look for him good lord.

He's punishing himself by not choosing the juice because he doesn't think he deserves it, because he doesn't think he's allowed to take it... He is the obstacle in his own joy. What is that joy? What is he standing in his own way of?

I'm literally beating my fists on the ground. It's textbook. Fucking textbook. He's hiding from himself, hiding himself from himself, hiding from his joy.
Nothing like 911 to give you the most insane gutwrenching side plot of all time when I tell you I was SOBBING over those two brothers. (To be fair it's been an extremely hard week).
"I'm the himbo" HE IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!!!!!
Look let me just get this out of the way: I really loved bucktommy. I liked their dynamic and I liked what he was able to teach Buck about himself, but I think Tommy is ultimately right: he can see the writing on the wall, just in the same way he said "my attention?" in 7x04. He was Buck's first queer relationship, but he will not be his last. And I think Tommy has an idea who his last will be, even if he kept that part to himself.
I do think it was kind of an insane speedrun at the end there, I'm not sure why he couldn't just ask Buck to pump the brakes instead of fully breaking up with him.
It's also just a complete manifestation of Buck's greatest fear: abandonment. Abandoned by his parents, abandoned (through no fault of her own) by Maddie, abandoned by Abby, by Taylor, and now by Tommy. It sucks for him, and I hate it for him and for Tommy, who also doesn't seem to think he can have good things, and would rather beat Buck to the punch than actually take the risk and be vulnerable.
I think that this was a good learning experience for them both, and I think they'll both be better for it in the long run.
"I'll see you around, Buck" killed my ass.

And lastly, Eddie shaving off the mustache, his barrier from joy, and dancing around his house in his underwear. Finding the joy in being himself, finding the joy in his life again. And Buck knocking on the door, not asking any questions, and them sitting together on the couch, shoulder to shoulder each of their respective "barriers" gone.
They have some things to figure out, but we are so close that I can taste it, I can feel it.
I haven't felt this way since the last season of SPN, and while that didn't turn out the way I wanted (due to network and Robert Singer's meddling), I am confident that that is not where we're heading here. Tim Minear is back. The show is on the Shonda network. Buck is out and Eddie is on his way there. Gay Eddie. Buddie endgame. It's happening, and nothing will get me out of this clown car.

i went to a character tag and got annoyed &my hand slipped and i ended up writing like 700 words of a character study of shen jiu so. don't mind me just putting it here.
i feel like people are so focused on the trauma plot of shen jiu in the question of whether or not he could lead a happy life (which is to begin with a strange question in itself) that they completely dismiss the reality of his situation. i always say that i love sj's "whatever you've heard about me believe it and leave me alone" stance because it's funny but i only now noticed that readers completely miss why he behaves like this at all? or rather, they talk themselves in circles of his psychological flaws while the most obvious reason is that he simply knows he will not be believed. he has no actual background he can refer to beyond his life at the peak. more than that, everything that he says about his life before can point to the truth of him having been a slave. and this is obv a dangerous thing; knowing he was a slave, it could be easily found out that he murdered his owners - and in that case he would most probably lose everything.
which is all to say that readers clearly forget that our justice standards do not exist in that world. the general public learning of his past would not make them more sympathetic and the abuse he withstood would not be taken as justification for his actions. it would just humiliate him and perhaps even land him in prison. for all purposes it is better that his trips to the brothel are taken to be "whims of a spoiled promiscuous rich master" as opposed to visits to women that he once was closer in social status with and an escape from his current environment where he does not feel safe because he's afraid of men. of course there are other situations when he could have been truthful -- irt lqg's death, for instance -- but when you think about it, he is already isolated by then and yqy's opinion's is already known: while yqy has this pitiful little endeavour to keep sj safe going on, he does always assume the worst about shen jiu anyway.
and speaking of, it's not like yqy ever offered sj truth himself. who's that person that sj is supposed to offer veracity too? with whom is he supposed to be vulnerable?
above it all there is the simple notion of sj's shame and the explicit statement that he believes himself to be one of people who were just 'born bad'. but it is also not like he never tried. the thing that got him sold to the qiu family was his attempt to help a boy that he did not even like. and then, there is even the radical moment when he is gifted the name 'qingqiu' and he thinks that from now on, he will be a 'new person.' and yet, the ironic strike of luck (or the opposite) that made the peak lord choose this name for him tells us all we need to know: that sj can never be free of the qiu family. it's not just some inherent character flaw nor his desire to wallow in misery that are a downfall of his reputation. sj is not stupid. he knows there are things that cannot be said.
the fact that it is not obvious is tbh baffling to me given the title of the novel, its general premise and the fact that one of the first questions asked by shen yuan as he's looking into mirror is 'why are you like that?!' shen jiu cannot answer this question because he is dead. he could not really answer that question when he was alive either. but while sj is merely haunting the narrative, we learn that nearly every single thing said about him was a fabrication -- and it is quite clear in the extras where he actually appears that every single time he tries to do something right, it is taken to be malicious. so to say that 'he did all of that to himself' or some variation is reductive given that this is the initial assumption about him in the book that gets reconstructed and debunked??

It took me a lot of time to put into words that Isaac, simply, wants to feel important.
On one hand, there's his wanting to be the perfect weapon for Dracula. He is subservient to a T, he changes his body for him, he refuses to think about what they're doing, in pursue of surpassing Hector and becoming the Lord's favorite. He never accomplished that. It eats him up inside, and drives him to do illogical actions, like insisting on fighting Hector on fair terms to prove himself.
"I'm not as thoughtful as you, Hector... If you have a good weapon, you use it, don't you?"
"Good for you that you can judge our Lord’s deeds… It’s not bad for my position. But I will not tolerate any disservice and betrayal towards Him."
"I will not deny your loyalty..."
On the other, there's Hector. Isaac isn't going to submit to Hector, of course, not when Dracula indirectly forced him in that position already. At first, he wants to be at least his equal: he respects him but as I mentioned he wants to prove himself against him in a fight. Again, he doesn't accomplish that, and in fact Hector defeats him when wounded - and, in a last spit to his face, leaves him alive, unworthy of being finished off.
"Take a look at this pathetic sight, my Lord, my broken sword used as a cane. My body is the proof of Your expectations for him. Please ridicule me, scold me, next time I will do whatever it takes."
But then, he chooses another way. For three years, Hector dominates Isaac's every thought, as he rots away, hidden, a waste, a failure, while Hector gets everything he ever wanted.
"Mhh... You make that kind of face too… I've gotten a lot better too... How many times has the moon waxed and waned, I wonder?
"That’s a nice expression… I'm happy. Good pain is proof of life. I won't afford you the peace of death easily: live, spit blood, and then…"
He writes Hector's name under his boot, which can be interpreted in many ways, but I personally see it as a symbol of how thoroughly Hector owns him, like a toy.

So, then, Isaac flips the script on him.
I have spent words already on the significance of Isaac killing Rosaly. I also mentioned how repaying Hector with the same trauma he had inflicted on Isaac, albeit unwittingly, puts Hector in the position of the one being "owned" like a toy. Now it's Hector the one who is obsessed with Isaac, ruled by his anger and hatred. Isaac can play with him as he pleases. He can move him around like his puppet, and Hector will obey, not because he's stupid, but because Isaac has seized control of his emotions and thoughts. Isaac went from being dead in Hector's eyes to being his only reason left to live. At last, for a short while, Isaac was the most important person in Hector's life - and you bet he was relishing in that power, he who was made to feel worthless by the same man.
Hurts even more than even in his death, he was being as second best, as faulty material for his Lord's resurrection, his body left to be crushed under the castle.
It contrasts with Hector, who wants mostly to feel safe.
"The ability to rebel and blaspheme against the Divine Providence is accepted without blame. A place where we are allowed to exist."
When he talks in the MF manga that he sought power for the sake of remaining human, he was most likely referring to the power to live in peace, unthreatened, not feeling weak or vulnerable. He didn't care at all about being important to Dracula, something that Isaac envied instead.
It's yet another tragic parallel that Hector ended up being important to many people. To Dracula, as I said, as his best Devil Forgemaster. So I'm writing a jojo's/enstars fic, and as the Madara Lore Expert, I wanted to ask you a question.
In the fic, I've given Madara a Stand which gives him impenetrable armour, but only him. He can protect himself from harm, but he's helpless to prevent harm coming to his friends
Anyway, it's called Runaway Baby, but I'm not sure about the name. I think the Bruno Mars song it's a reference to really works for his character.
So my question is, what would be a better name for the Stand?

twilight zone is a story about an espionage agent/assassin thats just completed a mission and is on the run from enemy spies, but ultimately gets cornered. juke box hero has nothing to do with madaras meta its just a good song and it would be fitting/ironic to have hero in the name of a stand that explicitly cant save others. wanted dead or alive just has madara written all over it, if you read the lyrics its obvious why.

Miles' universe she's/they're alive. 42!Miles is in love with her/them and very sad 'cause she's/they're dead. The Spiderman! A haze hung heavily over your eyes, clouded your vision as you tried to wake up and ignore the harsh throbbing at the back of your skull. Had you hit your head on something? You couldn’t even remember what had happened…
You followed Miles home. What he wanted to do had been dangerous and risky and could destroy everything both of you knew.
But it was Miles. All the times he’d had your back, both in and out of this dimension… you couldn’t leave him to fight this kind of battle by himself. After stepping through the portal, you’d only had a short period when you could look around before something hit you.
You flexed your fingers, surprised to find your arms restrained.
Alright. Damage control then. You could feel the leather pressing against your back so that must mean you weren’t tied to a wall or anything like that. A little shuffling revealed that it was movable to maybe a punching bag?
Which meant you should be able to rotate a little if you just adjusted your weight and… there.
The punching bag swung around as you slowly came to see two expressions staring at you – one panicked and uncertain while the other appeared an uncertain mix of neutral and confident.
But both versions were the same person. Miles.
And they both seemed very surprised you’d woken up.
“I didn’t think I would see you here,” you said, forcing your voice to work so you could croak out something and break the silence. “Uh… either of you, I suppose.”
Quick thinking made you aware of a few small problems with your current predicament. Perhaps largest of which you could see in the purple lighting surrounding you. The lair of the prowler and given the clothing choices of the new Miles, one you might know better than you wanted to.
“She’s alive.”
It was said so simply. Without question or thought. Yet it hit like a punch into your stomach as the implications of the words dug much deeper than you expected.
“Am I not meant to be?”
The Miles you didn’t know, shrouded in darkness and purplish-green hues stepped forward to get a clearer look at you. Something unnatural hung in his expression – it worried you how blankly he watched you. “No,” he eventually said. “No, you’re not meant to be alive in this dimension.”
The twisting feeling in your gut got a thousand times worse as you stared at him. What was that supposed to mean. Had you died here?
“Well,” you said. “I don’t think I’m meant to be dead in my dimension so have no plans to change that.”
“Why did you follow me?”
This time, the question came from the Miles you knew. The one who you’d spent countless hours speaking to. Yet he looked at you as though you’d betrayed him by following him through the portal. Maybe he thought you had.
“Nobody else knows where I came,” you explained. “They… they’re too occupied with everything else to waste time on me.”
“You should have stayed where you were safe,” the new Miles said and you felt like a tennis ball with how much you were being spoken to by both. “This dimension isn’t where you’re meant to be.”
“I didn’t really know that,” you complained. “I don’t routinely look at every dimension and see if I’m alive or not in it. All I did was follow Miles.”
“Then he shouldn’t have let you follow.”
Miles looked rather offended at his counterpart’s comment. “I didn’t even know she was going to do that. How was I meant to stop her if I only found out she followed me a few seconds ago?”
“You should pay better attention.”
You couldn’t help but wince at that, feeling almost validated in your own insecurities regarding the lack of consideration provided by Miles most days. Ever since he learned about the other Spidermen, things had felt somewhat strained between the two of you. After all, you couldn’t swing through the city with him or relate to all the secrecy and experiences of the superheroes.
“I have to get home somehow,” your Miles finally said. “Both of us do, alright? If you let us go, we can help save our dad.”
“Your dad. How is she alive?”
“What?”
The new Miles gestured to you and slowly turned to face Miles. “Did you save her?”
“From what?”
“Then she must not have been with you when it happened. Why? What were you doing instead of spending time with her?”
You were starting to get very confused but something else caught your attention. The build-up of Miles’ electricity, flowing steadily from his touch against the chains. He had a plan to escape from this – if only the other him didn’t notice.
“When did it happen?” you asked. “Maybe I can tell you.”
The date he said meant little to nothing to you. It was fairly recent and if you remembered well enough, you didn’t even see Miles that day. You’d meant to but by the time you arrived, he’d already been long gone with –
“You were with Gwen,” you said and then hurried to add. “She’s another… friend of ours.”
“Another friend from a separate dimension.”
Okay, so there was no getting around that. You nodded slowly, trying not to show how sensitive the topic was. You liked Gwen well enough even though she rarely truly socialised with you.
The new Miles scoffed. “So, he abandoned you for somebody new but I don’t see her here. She didn’t follow him.”
The awkward silence he caused nearly made you wince. Gwen’s betrayal still ran deep in Miles and you knew this topic wasn’t a great choice for right now. Still, you needed to keep speaking to maintain the Prowler’s attention so he wouldn’t notice the escape plan.
“Gwen had other things to deal with,” you told him. “And I wasn’t abandoned.”
“Do you believe that?”
You didn’t. But you weren’t exactly going to turn the attention back onto your Miles right now so you gritted your teeth.
“I’m sorry I died here,” you said.
“Obviously. You weren’t meant to. I tried… I don’t understand how it’s fair that you get to be alive in the dimension where another version of me forgets that you exist. And then you’re sent here and he gets angry at you. Strange.”
A break in the façade of the Prowler. For a second, the emotionlessness changed and you saw an actual response to how you felt.
“I’m not angry,” Miles defended himself. “I just need to get home quickly, alright? This is more important –“
“No, it’s not.”
As though a cruel joke in your favour, you saw a flash of something in the new Miles that you’d always wanted from the one you knew. The look of a person who could have once returned your feelings.
And so, you hesitated in speaking and he turned back to your Miles just as an explosion of electricity sent chain links in every dimension.
For a second, you met his eyes and watched him mouth that he’d be back right before he bolted for one of the windows. Glass shattered everywhere as his counterpart shook his head and bolted after him.
You groaned and rested your head against the punching bag, left alone in a warehouse.
The chains loosened around you and you had only a second to react before you landed on the ground. You winced and rolled your shoulders, turned around to find the last person you ever expected to.
“Come on,” Aaron says. “Boy wouldn’t want you to stay here and wait for him.”
You didn’t know which one he was referring to but without many options, you followed him into a harshly different world to the one you grew up in.

Ok y'all so I've been on a plane so obviously I downloaded heathers and I thought "you know what? Lemme write down my thoughts, because I'm pretty crazy about this musical." So I did. These are the aforementioned thoughts. Enjoy if you choose to :)

Re: people’s needlessly pessimistic whining about Veilguard and the lack of focus on decisions from the other games. Idk I just… I’m kind of glad that they didn’t focus on that? Inquisition came out ten years ago, origins 15 years ago. I’d argue it’s good for the story that they chose to put the focus on the story of the game they’re publishing *now*, and not endless, gimmicky throwbacks. Especially since no one was really happy with how they handled it in inquisition.

Sorry for the rambling that I'm about to do, but I said this earlier today to my friend: I think the choices here from a writing- and development standpoint are either:
a series of small cameos that are vague and fundamentally unimportant enough to be taken- or switched out quickly without upsetting the entire plotline (as to not make the game both incomprehensible to new players, and/or so big and bloated that it's just borderline unmanageable),
or references that are relatively few and specific, but they affect the story in meaningful and interesting ways.
And I wholeheartedly believe that the second option of these two is far preferable to the first.
As nice as it would be to see beloved characters returning for a spell... like you said, it's been 15 years since Origins, and we've had three games with wildly branching possibilities for most characters- I honestly believe that it would have been an unnecessarily large added workload (that 99% of players potentially wouldn't even see) to account for all the possible deaths, romances, friendships, and fates that each companion could have in that time.
Plus, my main point in my grumpy tags on that post- from its infancy, Dragon Age has, in large part, relied on a series of unreliable narrators to tell its story.
The very moment you choose an origin in Origins, you choose a very specific lens through which to view the plot of the game that emphasizes different stakes in each big quest. They purposefully made a known liar the narrator of DA2, and Solas (another main player known to be a liar and a trickster) even spells this out in Haven, that (though I'm paraphrasing) reality can be fundamentally different depending on who it is that's telling its story, and what's their agenda in telling it.
Almost all of the events of these three games are told to us by imperfect people remembering things the way they saw them, through journal entries, letters, and word of mouth. We never even got (and were told that we would never get) a confirmation on whether the fucking MAKER is even REAL or not.
With that in mind, I honestly think it makes perfect sense for the majority of what the Warden, Hawke, and the Inquisitor have done to become distorted, misunderstood, and eventually lost to legend in a remarkably short time, especially considering that we're presumably in entirely different parts of the continent, with only Solas and Varric there to present likely diametrically opposing accounts of the events of 9:41. (Like yeah, sure, by that time whether there are werewolves in the Brecilian forest, or whether this or that person who was near to the action twenty in-game years ago in some Fereldan backwacter is dead or alive today, is probably meaningless pap to anyone who wasn't there at the time.)
Plus, yeah, one needs not to look further than Hawke and blood magic to see why Bioware might be reluctant to get really specific with including choices and characters who can be fundamentally affected by player choice. (I personally liked Hawke being very firmly against blood magic, but yeah, with them potentially having been a blood mage at one point, it was kind of a doozy.)
I just.... god, I know I sound bitter, but I so dearly wish people would just use their imaginations instead of complaining about stories not being exactly what they want them to be, and demanding for writers and actors to confirm everything.

Honestly all day today, it's been making me laugh to just imagine my Inquisitor Trevelyan being not just glad to be forgotten, but actively participating in the spreading of unfounded rumors about himself.
Like fuck it, he's retired. Nobody bother him, the Herald of Andraste is now an elven mage woman. Who was also sleeping with the Dread Wolf (definitely not the Big Scary Imperial Magister), what of it. Yeah, them being a non-mage human man is a common misconception, that was clever misdirection at the time, you're likely confusing the Inquisitor and the Inquisition's general. Ignore the missing arm, that's just an unfortunate accident and a total coincidence.
If they don't get mentioned after all (which I find unlikely tbh, knowing that Dorian is basically primed to be a returning character, what with him invariably being a Magister regardless of player choices) I can just headcanon that as soon as they caught wind of Varric's whole entourage approaching Minrathous, they just started packing frantically. No story is going to catch them with their pants around their ankles again!
(No, babe, leave that, there's no time, we have to go, quickly, the plot is fast approaching! We've already survived one ending of the world, this time? This time, we're going to my aunt's in Llomerynn. I hear it's nice this time of year. If the world is ending, I'd rather watch it happen with a fantasy!mai tai in my hand, and my feet in the fucking Amaranthine.)

Alright party people, I just finished Episode 1 of Ordem Paranormal: Calamidade! :D My options for tonight were either work on a drawing or do a "journal" post but I just love screaming into the void (and I have to write this before all the lore I have a by-the-finger-nails grip on slips out of my head) so the choice was obvious.
First of all, I've had a closer look at the intro, and...what's really weird is that the first time I watched the intro, I saw this particular frame and I was like, "Huh, that's weirdly familiar," but I couldn't place it and thus assumed it was a to-be-revealed location BUT THEN IT HIT ME
IT'S THE MANSION FROM ONSF! The painting of the infamous "caverna" is a dead give-away. In my defense it's on screen for like 1.2 seconds. Love the detail of the door to the basement being blasted off and how the paint drips out of the painting, like it's alive. (Love love love this picture, might just make it my wallpaper or something.)
The others are less clear to me. The one on the left has a sword (Veríssimo's? Arnaldo's/Thiago's?) on top of what looks to be a Scoundrel Vultures jacket, a black book, and some sort of ritual, with the Ordo symbol behind it... The purple room could be some sort of callback to the Energy occultists from OPD ep 7? Assuming all of these are, indeed, callbacks.
There are of course the silhouettes standing with Kian but eh, I don't wanna look too much into the intro sequence. We'll get there when we get there.
Anyway episode! Was good! One thing I really liked about this one was the built-in "downtime" to allow the players to just be silly and free with their characters, like with Rubens and Balu playing pool and the team choosing seats on the plane. (Jesus Christ the plane seating scene killed me lmfao.) Not to diss on OPD but for me that's what that season was lacking, so I didn't have *quiiiite* as much fun with it. And we could get into that but this is supposed to be about OPC. Just a noteworthy difference. Downtime lets us develop the characters outside of their missions and see parts of them that you might not see when it's time to Focus and Plot and Do Things, and it means the characters can bond as friends!

Oh and bond they do. Trauma bond that is. Speaking of trauma TEAM VULTURES :D And Arthur once again talking about "passing the torch" and I have. A normal amount of thoughts. About this idea. Ever since Arthur brought it up in OPD I've just been. FOAMING at the mouth at this idea. Because it's true, right? The Order passes the torch, again and again. Agents pick up the torch, run with it as far as they can, and survive just long enough to pass it onto the next agent, the next team, the next generation, on and on and on; and they have no idea if the fighting will ever be over. It's like a relay race with no clear end. All they have is their hope that the next person can carry that torch a little further, and that all their work and suffering will not have been in vain. It's. Deeply profound. Especially coming from a character like Arthur, as he himself has become a symbol of this torch-bearing theme in the series. I love the fact that this idea is being expanded on in this series since, again, Arthur was the one who brought it up in OPD when the group was talking and looking at the letter Joui left Kaiser before he was masked.
There's a good amount of...I suppose similarities developing between Arthur and Veríssimo. Both having leadership roles, both feeling the loss of their fellow agents so deeply, as if losing family, both understanding the need to just keep moving forward, moving on with life, because what else can you do? And yeah, kind of redundant to say it, considering the fact that Arthur has straight-up been referred to as being unofficially Veríssimo's right hand, as well as all of those character moments between Arthur and Veríssimo during the OPD finale. "Arthur! Eyes always open!" And of course the hug later on. SCREAMING. There's a lot to chew on here.
Oh, but the lore! The lore is lore-ing! The old couple made some sort of deal with the Devil that we don't know the specifics of but it seems it was to lure the team to the house where the Child-monster eventually showed up, and it seems they've held up their end of the bargain. No idea what the deal was for though. In any case, Arnaldo's Grimoire has revealed more secrets---new pages concerning the Devil case Arnaldo worked 20+ years ago that seems to be echoing now, specifically about a circus that traumatized people (a fountain of Fear, perhaps?) and some brothers who were trying to resurrect the Devil. Maybe that's what the circus was for? Whatever happened, the Devil wasn't summoned and instead they made a creature that traumatized Eusébio. Probably. See the issue is I can never tell if I'm the right amount of confused in this series, or if I'm so confused I'm misunderstanding things that should've been clear to me by now. Ah well, leave me to my confusion, for it is all I have.
Anyway, they're hEADIN TO ITALY WA HOOOOOO VACATION LOOK AT HOW HAPPY THEY ARE!!
Btw literally all of Guaxi and Rakin's OOC shenanigans give me life. Putting them next to each other at the table was the best decision ever. I've decided to start head-canoning all of Rakin's expressiveness and swearing as Dante's inner monologue but Dante's 😐-ass just doesn't let it show Ever. Thinking back on it, I don't think Dante has ever willingly engaged in the Sillies like other characters do, if at all. Props to Rakin for staying consistent with that because a, that's gotta be hard with a group as silly as this, and b, it seriously helps build Dante's apathetic, no-nonsense personality. And he's apathetic, no-nonsense without falling into the pitfall of typical "unfeeling aloof asshole" character! Dante cares and feels deeply, he just won't make a dick-joke, you know? In summary, good character building, I love <3 (But seriously I need ONE scene where someone in the group in-character gets not just Rakin but Dante to crack and laugh at something stupid. I need it so bad. Let it be Arthur it would heal me.)
Right, anyway, so, Italy! As I was in the discord getting ready to comment on how sweet and nostalgic the music for the Leone Mansion was, Carina opened the door and. Well.
*hiss through teeth* Yeahhhhhh. Nevermind on that one, chief.
I really loved this moment for Carina, though. I took Gabi's million billion questions to Cellbit about the surroundings (is there anything moving, how many bodies, if she immediately recognized anyone, etc) as Carina's mind attempting to parse this deeply disturbing scene in the only way it knows how: investigation. Of course, she has an emotional reaction a beat after, but for a moment, her brain just immediately went into work-mode, and the emotions hit in a second wave of realization---processing the scene first and then processing it, you know?
And then we had that moment between Carina, Dante, and Arthur where Carina...I believe she took a step back and sat down on the steps? If not then she at least took a step back, and Dante took her hand and reassured her that they were there for her. If Arthur doesn't do it here, then post blood zombie fight when Carina sits down in the chair, Arthur puts his hand on her shoulder to reassure her as well. And Carina asks Dante to check the bodies for her family crest. And Dante finds the crest. And he lies to her, and she notices immediately, and she thanks him anyway. I'm. They're so much. The Greater Ordo Realitas Trauma Bond is growing.
In other news, putting this joke from the discord here because Balu, I love you, but you make a better door than a window, if you get what I'm saying.
The combat this episode was pretty good! Of course there was Balu being Balu, but Clarissa was a fucking badass holy shit, and CARINA WITH THE BEASTIAL BLOOD ZOMBIE ONE-CYCLE???? And Arthur and Rubens hit a few really good shots too. Dante hearing Carina screaming when she got tackled by the other bestial blood zombie and charging in there with his Decadence/Decay ritual already half-formed on his lips lives in my brain now. (The👏trauma 👏bond👏)
Oh yeah and Kian and Gal were here (hate them) and they brought a bunch of Escriptas and massacred the entire Leone Family (hate them even more) and it seems like they're working with the Devil? Like from the fucking Bible? Hello sir??? Probably not actually from the Bible but like. That's the fucking Devil. He just. Kinda exists. Okay! First time we encounter a Paranormal "creature" that seems to be at least...somewhat sentient? It's usually either feral creatures or Occultists, this guy seems to be a bit of a planner/deal-maker so he's gotta have something like a brain working up there but like. Mans not really human-looking anymore huh. Incheresting.
Oh and I kinda forgot. Rubens! Talking with Clarissa! Johnny most definitely horror'd :( My buddy Factorial pointed out that the flannel that Rubens is wearing around his waist looks exactly like Johnny's so uh. Yeah. Oh, and the contrast between Clarissa's "get your head in the game, we have a mission, I know you can do this" talk with Rubens on the plane and Dante's "I know this is horrible, we're here for you" talk with Clarissa on the steps of the mansion is astounding. Clarissa definitely feels very detached from the group, but I suppose that's rather the point of her character, right? Untethered? Aloof? I still believe in the strength of the Greater Ordo Realitas Trauma Bond, though I don't know if it'll be enough to save her since Cellbit oh so loves to kill off his NPCs in horrific ways <33

Probably years ago at this point I got a fic idea with the premise: what if Nina was dead the whole time? Not in the stupid conspiracy theory depressing kind of way where it's a theory that makes the whole original work be a dark stupid twisted thing.
But like in the, something bad happened to her before she could arrive at the school kind of way, and Osiris and Anubis were like oh fuck we kind of need our chosen one to be alive, and go there, so they do an approximation of bring her back, and then send her to school where Nina then has do the plot as normal, while hiding the fact that she's dead.
For a long time I was thinking of something along the lines of her being like a guardian angel or something, and out of the corner of your eyes sometimes you could almost see the wings, and coming up with scenarios that would force a reveal or something.
Then I remember that in addition to being the god of death, Anubis is the god of mummification. And mummification is supposed to preserve the bodies for life after death. Also Osiris became the lord of the underworld after dying an being mummified. So then the idea changed to, what if Nina got mummified instead of angelfied.
And then they place an illusion spell on her so she looks like a normal living person, but still sometimes out of the corner of your eye you see bandages. And like mummies were given food, so she can still eat, which would help with the trying to convince everyone that she's alive. Sure she feels a little cold and scratchy to the touch, but Amber will probably just give her a bunch of lotion for that.
She is not really sure what the gods want to her to to, but she is glad to be not dead dead, you know? And like in canon, Patricia is convinced that Nina is hiding something, only this time she's not exactly wrong about that. But (aside from maybe Alfie), who would guess that she's an undead mummy?
Nina is trying very hard to pretend to be alive. But I feel like having her brains pulled out through her nose would not improve her lying skills any. To be fair, if she can still eat without a stomach, her mental facilities are probably just as good (or bad) as they were when she was alive, and her brain was fully intact.
And maybe Nina has to bring her canopic jars with her to the house. And has to figure out how to hide them. "Why do have this canopic jar with a relatively fresh spleen in it?" "To be fair it is mine." "Your jar or your spleen?" "Yes"
And maybe some hunter of the undead, obsesed with the natural order of things shows up to smite her or something, and she gets to be like "I didn't choose this, but if you have a problem with my existence, I can refer you to the people who did this to me. Osiris god of the underworld, and Anubis god of the dead, and I figure if anyone cares about the natural order of things, it would be those two."

as for petra that section felt terrible cuz. like i KNEW it was there, i knew about petras lore. i knew she was in a similar situation as captain & io. but having her voice it like this..........'should i ask her why she abandoned me' LIKEEEEEEEEEE....that epic scene in no rain no rainbow that they reused for and you (i think it was????) with captain crying & being comforted by vyrn with very similar questions. the anime s2 too. ugh.....u better keep dad alive. makes act3 such a heartache too since they fell to the edgelands as dad left, found out estalucias real name, found out repti had known dad & that? the last thing anyone has seen of dad is very likely him standing in front of the omnipotent(s clone) ?????? which makes me so damn dizzy in consideration of dad arriving at zinkenstill alone with captain & mom (&dads) position with bahamut. going to estalucia.....dad........ yeah my dad is at this fabled island oh no he met a being whose radiance blinded repti & even seeing it from the mask hurt hailaks eyes is he ok we dont know we can just push forward oh no the sky is broken. I think fire emblem three houses should get a sequel. At least for Crimson Flower. Let me give you my pitch:
Imagine Edelgard winning against Rhea. Her, Hubert and Byleth rejoice and celebrate as they're destroyed the "decadent church" and brought order back to society. (This is their POV, not necessarily the truth).
Now, fast forward some couple hundred years. The Empire that Edelgard successfully made is now beginning to crack. Her successors have not been nearly as charismatic as her, and the cracks are beginning to show. One day, a rebellion forms; a rebellion hoping to destroy the empire. The rebellions are all put down, but there's only so long that can keep happening. There's rumours that Seteth and Flayn are involved in these new rebellions, but no proof. (Byleth spared them years ago, and it's now coming back to bite them).
Our main character for this game/story would probably be a Skywalker type figure (I don't watch star wars really, but I know the characters well enough to say this). Someone the rebellions leaders choose to rally behind.
To quote a comment I saw on one of my previous posts about this (I asked permission, but I'm impatient and wrote this before their response): "So you know that line where Dimitri says the Blaiddyd bloodline will live on even if he dies? There’s your main character". Thank you, @bummedoutbutstillalive you took my idea and made it a lot better. Thank you!
So there's my pitch for why I think Crimson Flower is ripe with potential for a sequel! I don't know if I have the writing skills to do anything with my idea, but I needed to share it! Thank you for listening!
PS: I feel like you could definitely work in references to the first game, even if they're just small ones. But I imagine Seteth and Flayn would be the game's main ties to Three Houses, since they were alive for the formation of Edelgard's new Empire. Edelgard, Byleth and Hubert would also all be important characters however (they're all dead now probably, but their legacy would live in). Really, any of the main characters of 3h (from Dimitri to Claude to Edelgard to Rhea) would probably be referenced heavily in this game/story. They're all historical figures of Fodlan, at this point.

Ok friend you have my curiosity where is this fic you speak of. I am SO ready to have my brain chemistry fundamentally changed
Start here. My recommendation is to read that, maybe read the rest of Turnabout NaNoWriMo, and if you want to know more after that, I can hand you some 200k of fic that is properly formatted with the interludes, because Ao3's formatting really doesn't work with the Sagiverse anthologies. (So what you see here is maybe like a quarter of what we've got. We have a lot, and also lots of art.)
Turnabout NaNoWriMo is the first of three-and-a-half anthologies I've written, and it's only after reading and enjoying all of them do I let people at my fiance's anthologies, which are excellent but a bit more private. (Turnabout Runaways, which was this year's NaNo challenge, is incomplete but at least 50k. I will be slowly working on it probably for a few months, and eventually it'll be done.)
These anthologies take place in a greater crossover AU we refer to as Sagiverse. It started in 2020 in Saint Seiya, and now hosts several different series, eight hundred some-odd characters, upwards of thirty different fantasy worlds (of which Earth is only one), and more plotlines than we can keep track of properly.
Here's the two-sentence pitch: seven hundred years ago, there was a giant war between various magical factions on Earth that ended in a mostly-forgotten pyrrhic victory and the gods choosing to seal magic away from the world. So magic began to slowly die out, and as of present day, magic is rarer and rarer, and mage society is dying out, but it's still holding on as best it can, until one day the gods finally allow magic to return.
Ace Attorney gets involved with this very very simply. Miles Edgeworth is a mage. To be specific, he's a necromage, one of the most powerful currently active on Earth. His father, Gregory Atticus Edgeworth, had never found proof of magic while he was alive. His mother... well, no one knows who his mother is, or anything about the man at all. After DL-6, Miles was taken in by MvK as a ward just as canon says, but the von Karmas themselves are magi of a kind. After DL-6, Atticus finds the proof of magic's existence that he's been looking for all along, and he is not going to leave his son and missing fiance alone in a world that so very much wants the both of them dead.
And so begins a thirty-five year trainwreck to put their wayward, way-finding family back together. They'll do it, no matter what it takes. It just turns out their family's a little bigger than they think it is.
The fic I linked pretty much opens with the identity of Miles' mother, which you learn pretty much as I did, because I didn't plan jack or shit, only let him tell me what was going on. You may raise an eyebrow at the canon ages, don't worry about that. We had to fix the timeline anyway (because the forensics tech was all twenty years out of date so we just changed the years to be twenty years earlier, setting DL-6 on December 28th 1981) so we just didn't pull him back as far. Atticus died at 39, his fiance was 33.
This is because when I first got into AA, I found the IS-7 picture of Gregory and Ray, and I sort of mistook 18-year-old Ray as Atticus' wife. My fiance pointed out the age gap, paused, and went "but they're cute so I'm sure we can make it work" and then we did. If you hesitate a bit on the ship but don't immediately hate the idea, I promise I can sell you on it. At the end of the day, everything comes back to Atticus and Ray's tragic romance. This I can promise you: it ends happily. We're just still writing everything in between.
Sagiverse!Ray is a pretty distinct character from canon!Ray, but they're close enough that if you like one you'll probably like the other. I gave him way more trauma and it's fun. :3c
If you're wondering what happens to other characters, I can answer that. Apollo is dead for a few months, Phoenix a little bit longer. Robot!Athena has Issues. Franziska changes her career from Interpol to Magica Underground mostly because it's a better use of her legal talents. Miles gets to be the chosen one and lead a war against one of his university friends who unfortunately (and semi-accidentally) stole Phoenix's corpse and ran away with it. (Phoenix is fine, don't worry about it.) Atticus gets to be a bounty hunter on the ghostroads with Mia and they do a lot of shooting MvK and causing problems. Ray, uh. Well, at least he only got shot in the head twice?

why don't you like Mel? you wrote a smut-fic with her but your other story has her with a crush that is being treated as creepy? her crush on Frank isn't creepy so I hope you're not be planning on some weird stalker fic.

I had the wrong day to choose to answer this - actually no that is incorrect. I fully intended to ignore this until the day I had at work.
First off, hi there and hello Anonymous. I'm not quite sure what exactly you are basing this idea that I don't "like" Mel. But that is patently untrue. Is she my favorite character on The Pitt? Not in the least. She isn't even in my top 3. But, like, there's a lot of fucking characters.
Also, that in no way means that I dislike her.
Canon-Adjacent-AU with a strong sense of Realism is where I live in my writing. ie: I pick a point in the narrative and I say "Everything Canon that happened before that absolutely happened. If this (whatever point I picked) is our split then where do the ripples take us" (ex: "Carter doesn't switch to ED from Surgery", "Dead Air Consequences" NCIS episode, "The 9-1-1 Writers know how to the LAFD work and Buck goes to the Union instead of an ambulance chaser and still wins cause he had an actual case but people are less likely to want to fillet him alive") Other people can write the instant soul-rending "i love you" connection (or variations on that) all they want and I celebrate it. That is their own personal brands of awesome. Rah-Rah I will cheerlead all day long for those writers to do their shit. That is not my writing style. Let's just go with the two fics I have posted that feature (really more reference for the apparently "dislike" fic) Mel King: Yes, I wrote a smut fic (I didn't think it was particularly all that good tbh 'but'cause it'd been a while since I'd written any sexy times) featuring Mel getting railed by Langdon. You're welcome I guess.
Yes, I'm also writing a fic that has about a 4 sentence reference to Mel having a crush on Langdon and him having to give himself a half second to try and figure out who exactly McKay is speaking about. Yes, he's mildly exasperated by it (as it is also mentioned that this isn't the first time this has happened - which is where the half-joke is played not at Mel's expense but at his own); but this story's Frank Langdon is a Frank Langdon who only knew her for 1 shift. A shift where there was a shit ton of stuff going on and he is now 6 weeks deep into rehab following detox. He hasn't seen or spoken to her since before the ambulance bay break up.
So taking the fact that a certain sense of realism is where I tend to structure my stories, and that my canon split point for this story was actually the end of canon - realistically (and I mean, legitimate realism, not TV show realism) Mel King is going to be barely a blip on THAT Frank Langdon's radar after the day he had. While they were at the hospital? Absolutely. They worked well together. Seeing her in person - sure he'll remember her. Being prompted as to her existence - after a hot second, yup, right Mel. Good doctor. Spending time contemplating her existence when he's trying to save his career, possibly his marriage, take care of his children, salvage friendships that have lasted for years, save his own personal health...Mel is not going to be floating around in that brain. Santos will get more screen time (so to speak) then Mel will as she would have had an actual more drastic effect on his overall life. (Ironically, I'm also working on one in vauge outline form at the moment where a "different" Frank does have more interaction with her after the shift from hell and pre-rehab and therefore has a different thought process to their relationship/friendship/situationship/whatevership)
So yes, thank you for letting me take out my immeasureable frustration after today at work.
And to sum it up - no I don't fucking dislike Mel. No she isn't going to "stalk Frank" in that fic. What the actual hell?
I won't even tag this. Just let my mutuals accept my personal brand of insanity presented for them to enjoy here. So, if you aren't a mutual; well, stalk away to see if I answered.

IT'S THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE GAME! :D
To celebrate, I want to talk about the process of making it and answer some questions you might have.
1. How did you get the idea to make this game?
To understand the story better, one thing you need to know is that I've been a long-time fan of Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost Files, so as I as watching the latest episodes, I would sometimes think "What would Ryan and Shane do if they went to the tulip field? And what would Tulip do if she saw them?"
In Tulip's character sheet, it says she dislikes ghost hunters, "except the ones she watched when she was alive". I wrote this to imply that she was a fan of Buzzfeed Unsolved (canonically, she died before Ghost Files was announced, so I imagine she would be very confused at first if she saw Ryan and Shane coming to the field).
I originally thought about making a illustration titled "Dead Shaniac fangirling from afar" (yes, ironically enough, Tulip was a Shaniac when she was alive), which was basically going to be something like this:

But then, I realized it would be weird to draw my OC interacting with real people, so I discarded the idea (I was also worried about drawing him horribly).
Around the same time, I was coming up with ideas for Tulip's lore and I was very excited to share them. The problem though was that I knew it was going to take a long time to make the character sheet and the necessary illustrations to complement the pieces of lore and I was busy with other projects (the novel and the palette challenge).
It was then when I saw a post giving a list of free game engines and, among them, was Twine, which I was familiar with (I don't remember how I first learned about it, but it was through YouTube). So then, I thought about making a interactive story to show how Tulip would react in the presence of a ghost hunter or someone coming to the field for other reasons.
Since I wasn't going to draw my Shane fanart, I decided to make the main character of the game a Ghost Files fan and reference some of the tools used in the show (I rewatched some scenes to see how I was going to describe them and how they worked).
2. Why did you choose Twine to make the game?
I chose Twine because it was free and I didn't have to download it (I have an old computer, so I don't have a lot of storage left). Also, I wouldn't have to draw anything, which was good for me.
3. Why doesn't the game have any music or sound effects?
Since I have no experience in coding, I chose the Harlowe format in Twine, which is the recommended one for people like me (you still have to write code, but it's not as advanced as the others). However, the main disadvantage of Harlowe is that it's very difficult to add music. The tutorials I looked up were confusing and, according to some people in the comments, outdated. Also, said tutorials explained that you had to make a separate website to put the music and sound effects there and then put a link to said website in the code, which was something I was not willing to do.
I wasn't that mad about it, though. My mind at that moment was like "Relax, it's not an actual game; it's just an interactive way to present lore. Only your followers are going to play it".
4. Do you plan to make more games in the future?
Maybe, but after I post enough art and lore about my other OCs (so probably in five or six years, haha). My idea is to make these games to show "plot events" (there isn't actually an overarching plot, but all my OCs share the same universe, so they will interact with each other sometimes and interesting things will happen to them every now and then).
However, most of these future projects will be very challeging and tedious because I will actually have to draw everything (character sprites and backgrounds).
Since I won't be making any games for a while, I might as well share some ideas I had (I don't plan to make these in order):
The first one, which is the most ambitious one, is a visual novel or dating sim featuring Liliana, my succubus OC (don't worry, it won't have any mature content). The premise of the game will be that you will have three months to make her fall in love with you before she is forced to consume your soul. For this game, I would like to try out Ren'py to add visual elements and because it might be easier to add music there. The difficult part of this game will be writing an interesting protagonist (what could motivate Liliana to not kill this guy?).
The second idea is a game where you play as Paloma, my witch OC, and have to venture through Hell to rescue Saúl, the demon she's in love with. Ideally, I would like to make this a short RPG game, but if I can't find any free alternative to RPG Maker, I might work around with Ren'py to give a similar experience.
The third one, which is the most recent one I had, is an interactive fiction/horror game that focuses on the strange encounter between "two" of my OCs. This one will be easier to make because I'll use Twine again; but it will be darker than "The Tulip Field".

I made a Twine game!
Far away in the countryside, there is a large tulip field where people go to have some time for themselves. It is a favourite place for some people because of the sense of calmness and freedom it gives them.
After hearing about this tulip field, you decide to go there without telling anyone. Whether you are going there to do your favourite hobby or to take a break from your stressful life, you are guaranteed to have a good time. However, you are not alone.
This is a short choose-your-own-adventure game I made on Twine. The only advice I have to give you is to be patient.
NOTE: there is flashing text in one part of the ghost hunter route. The text isn't big or bright, but I want to give a warning, just in case.
I made this game to introduce the ideas I already have for Tulip, since I take too long to finish illustrations. Some of these ideas will later make more sense after I post more about her. Feel free to share your thoughts and/or interpretations.
