#Jaegercon Meetup

you know what's weird?

all these physical meetups and conventions and things getting cancelled and not very many people seem interested in just moving online?

i guess it's bc they figure: they're online all the time, it's not special, it's nothing different

maybe it's all moved to discord or streaming services? but it's just that, to me, tumblr would actually be great for this

we used to have events on here - remember jaegercon? and with the new group chat and photo/video functions it would be even easier to do so now?

some people have jumped on the idea: making and reblogging posts to support artists or crafters that won't be making con money, etc. for example

but why not just have a con here? i say tumblr instead of discord or twitter because 1) public, so larger audience 2) hosts multiple kinds of media: video, links, photos, long texty explanation posts 3) unlike twitter everything on a single blog is chronological, uninterrupted, easy to see by scrolling and 4) people can submit posts or use a specific public tag to make their additions visible to those interested

people have already set aside the time

'staff' make an account for it - announce a date and time

set up livestreams for the panels or just have panelists post their main thoughts and then take turns answering asks during a specific time period (just like tumblr itself does with promos),

let artists or sellers submit posts with their wares to 'artist alley' or whatever so people can browse

have groupchats in specific timeslots for that convention hall feeling

you can still have cosplayers posting photos even if there aren't physical photo ops

just, like, take the time and make it an actual online Event somewhere - pick a site, pick a manner of access, set up a way to take donations or get payments for admission to a 'convention space' if you have to

why let all the work go to waste? some things are lost - find other ways to make good things happen. people love to feel a part of something, give them something to feel a part OF

We ended up confused about where to meet before the showing - this was Seattle Jeagercon Group Prime! Not counting me because I was taking the photo. But there were two others. Fortunately, we all met in queue. ^_^ Plus everybody was there for the poster signing!

Repost for the tags: The JaegerCon Michigan meetup will be held in Grand Rapids, Saturday August 10th at high noon! Meet at the Schuler Books at 3165 Alpine Ave (just north of I-96 exit 30) for cosplay shenanigans, games, and fanwork brainstorming, with a possible screening of Pacific Rim, then food at a tasty restaurant to follow.

Even if you can’t make it, please pass this post along so Pacific Rim fans in the area can find out about the meetup. If you plan to attend, email me (vensre @ gmail) to confirm, so I can contact people if plans change unexpectedly and also so I know how many donuts to bring.

Jaegercon in Calgary

This is (probably) a shot in the dark, but hey. Pacific Rim is cool. 

Jaegercon is this weekend, but according to Cineplex.com the last screening of Pacific Rim in IMAX is on Thursday (aka tomorrow. I don't know about anyone else, but giant robots versus giant monsters on a giant screen sounds like a plan to me. 

I know this is incredibly short notice, but I will be moseying my way on over to Chinook to catch the 6:40 PM showing. I'll be wearing a Jaegercon badge and a Singer Salvage hoodie, and I welcome any other fans to come and join me. 

For those who can't make it tomorrow, and because this is so short notice: I'll be hitting up the 12:45 3D showing at Chinook on Saturday (as I have an Extreme Manly Birthday to attend in the evening), also in the hoodie and wearing the badge.

Jaegercon: Anchorage Alaska

The Beckets are our boys and it's only fair we celebrate them. Or at least we can get together and try and figure out where they'd build the Shatterdome. I'll be making Kaiju Blue cupcakes. Drop me an ask and we'll start working out a meet location/time, and maybe a possible screening if the movie is still out.

St. Louis Screening Meetup

Alrighty folks in the St. Louis area or surrounding counties that are part of Jaegercon!

Tomorrow, August 11th at 4:35, St. Louis Mills/St. Louis Outlet Mall (depending on your preference). Pacific Rim Screening!

I will be there between 4 and 4:15 wearing a green shirt that says Irish and Crazy along with a sign that says 'Jaegercon Meetup'. I will be waiting in front of the ticket booth.

If you're coming from 270, north or south, you want the 370 Exit toward St. Charles. The exit for the Mills/Outlet Mall is the first exit once you're on.

If you're coming from 70, either take 270 to 370 or if you're near Mid Rivers Mall, you want the 370 exit and take it to the Mills Exit.

Once at the Mills/Outlet Mall you want to find Regal Theatres. That is where we will be watching the movie.

Knoxville, Tennessee

Okay, as of August 1, 2013, the husband and I are planning to go and see Pacific Rim on Sunday, August 11th. I still need to call theatres and see if they'll even have it on that day and, if so, what times. So, if anyone around K-Town wants to go watch Jaegers and Kaijus, please let me know. Like I said, this is still kinda up in the air, but the plan for now is to go see it.

K-Day Meetup?

Would anyone in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area of VA be interested in meeting up some time during the weekend to celebrate JaegerCon? We could go and see the movie, maybe get something to eat.  If so, please message me about the time, date, theater location, etc. that would work best for you. I have absolutely nothing going on, so any time during the weekend is fine for me.

How does one go about planning a meetup and/or viewing? Do you have to reserve movie tickets? Warn the theater ahead of time? Help?

If enough people want it to be the 435 showing since it is matinee, I can totes change it. But I was thinking we meet up at like 630-700, we could buy our tickets, then get some froyo and all hang out and chat before heading to the movie.

If you have an questions or anything, just shoot me an ask and I’ll answer. Also if you could send one to say you’re going I’d really appreciate it. I mean I’m gonna see the movie regardless but I’d like to know who’s coming.

Last but not least, I’ll probably be dressing as Tendo, so look for the short person in suspenders and a bowtie wearing possibly a Jaegercon Badge.
