If this is your first time seeing me, STOP READING AND GO SEND ME AN ASK WITH YOUR FAVORITE WORD! In June 2024 I picked up the hobby of asking random people on Tumblr their favorite word, and I just kept asking until we got here today. I've got about 7000 favorite words from a whole bunch of people on Tumblr.

First, the credit for doing basically all of the work goes to @thespyglassofvision. He was the one who ripped all the text out of Tumblr, making it way easier for me to filter it to just favorite words.

I want to ask you all about this scene of SMB movie.

I’m Japanese. When I watched the subtitled version of this movie, ( ENG voice and JP sub)

I thought Luigi was saying “You just got, a-Luigi’d!” or “You just got ha-Luigi’d” .

Please tell me WHAT IS HAPPENING IN ENG GRAMMAR IN HIS CHARMING JOKE and what he really said!!😂

It is too difficult for my poor English to understand what he saying.

BTW, in Japanese,

Luigi said “Yaru toki wa, ya-Luigi sa! (やるときは、やルイージさ！) .

Yaru toki wa yaru (やるときは やる) means,

“He can get things done when he has to do”.

Japanese do not distinguish between sounds of R and L.

So for us, “ru” sound of “yaru” and “lu” sound of “Luigi” is the same.

Luigi puts the two together and jokes about it by saying “ya-Luigi”.

The meaning of the JP version of this dialogue goes like this.

“I, Luigi, am a guy who does things when I have to do! “

The Beta / Unused Cyrus Floaroma Town Encounter

Text IDs 0 and 1 were translated into English, and can be found in the base game data of Diamond and Pearl. 2-5 are blank, but data for them can be found in a beta build of the Japanese game, currently untranslated. I found the text in file 513 for the English game, and file 505 for the Beta Japanese version. The translated dialogue is not documented on the cutting room floor, and may be incorrectly assumed to be Cyrus, over another character like Dawn/Lucas (Professor's assistant). Unfortunately, I cannot speak Japanese, to confirm this myself - so I've edited the format for ease of translation. For those curious, I swapped \v0103\x0001\x0000 with (Player), since that calls the players name - same for \v0103\x0001\x0001 and the rival name, which I've swapped with (Rival). I've also cleaned up the line break and format dialogue commands (removed \r, \l, and \n, minding the possible ends of sentences. Grain of salt, but I concluded \r always ends a sentence, and added periods instead). Dialogue below, for anyone who may be able to translate.
