I've seen some uncharitable readings of the way Eito rejoins the team in the Rebellion route and how he has to go to far less extremes to win over their trust compared to the Second Scenario, and I think what people miss is that it's not so much that he's 'easily forgiven' as that everyone else admits he was right in the first place, and so they loose the moral high ground to judge him.

What makes Eito blind himself in the Second Scenario route isn't that his moral position has changed, it that he has decided to his friendships outweigh his personal moral beliefs (in part because those beliefs where programmed into him by dissidents and/or the result of a defect in his pod). He still hates humanity and everything it stands for, but his feelings for his friends (and Takumi in particular) are more important to him. It's that enduring hatred that everyone distrusts: the knowledge that he betrayed them repeatedly in the name of his moral code and might do so again, which paired with how uneasy everyone already is about siding with humanity and completing the Exodus project they are extremely hypersensitive too.

But in the Rebellion route the team also decides to abandon humanity, tacitly endorsing (weather they realize it or not) Eito's position that humanity isn't worth saving. They basically admit that, everything he did- killing Sirei, joining the Futurans, sabotaging the mission, killing Shion- was justified because they then go on to do all those things themselves. They don't forgive Eito in the rebellion route. They decide he was in the right, even if most of them would never admit it and fittingly...it's probably the happiest ending for Eito. Especially in the Seeds of Hope version: he and Takumi absorb Shion's power together rendering them virtually unkillable demigods, their are no serious rivals for Takumi's affection remaining, and Takumi and Kamyuhn are set to rule over a united Futurum.

From Eito's preservative this is the good ending.

SPOILERS (I guess?) The whole Lucanis Wings being controlled by Spite - has me thinking about the final romance scene. Do you think Spite loves Rook too? Or he was just helping out Lucanis?

Ahhh I mean we have confirmation from his writer that "Spite is fond of Rook in his own Spite-like way" and that he trusts them more than anyone else! I personally wouldn't interpret this as romantic, per se, but I think Spite recognizes that Rook is good for Lucanis and feels a little protective/possessive over them because of that?

It could obviously be that the devs just thought it would be a cool effect, but I like to believe that Spite was trying to make them feel safe, maybe? Shielded from the rest of the world. ("These people want to hurt you and take you away? How about NO?", Spite said spitefully.)

We know that spirits don't really feel the same way normal people do and I highly doubt Spite could love someone the way we mean when we say love, but the romance scene makes me think Spite's feelings are probably the closest to (some type of) love they could possibly be. You know... for a demon.

Add on: I still swoon over this though because. What do you mean, the DEMON likes me enough to do that?? He LIKES me?? THE DEMON???? I think that qualifies Rook as Thedas's most specialest princess (gender neutral)

What bothers me about a lot of the takes I see comparing Veilguard to bg3, both in the vein of "Give DA to Larian" and "Larian could never because bg3 was just as flawed" is that both of these sentiments kinda miss the point.

Like, sure, bg3 is a very flawed game, most notably when it comes to the main story. Does that mean the writers at Larian are incapable of telling a better one? Of course not. To declare so would be a vast misunderstanding of how writing, art, or game development as a whole works.

And yes, let's say, hypothetically, miraculously, EA gave up the DA IP and Larian was the one that picked it up (there's quite frankly so little chance of this actually happening that this is purely the realm of thought experiment). Would Larian then create the perfect DA game, the one that we all envisioned while we waited for DA4? No. Larian is a different studio, with different writers who have different creative urges. Whatever they might have made would be as different from each previous DA game as each of them were from each other, at the very least.

But the key thing that I think people miss out on when comparing the two studios is this: Larian is a company that supports its developers, that invests proper time and resources in its writers, that doesn't lay off veterans at the drop of a hat, and that we haven't (as of yet, anyway) heard reports on about crunch, burnout, or mismanagement.

Would a hypothetical Larian DA game be perfect? Almost certainly not. Would it be better than Veilguard? Most likely, yes. Better working conditions with happier, healthier devs create better games, in the long run. And despite how flawed bg3 can be, there's a passion beneath it that is largely absent from Veilguard. Because you can't strip resources from your writers, change direction multiple times, fire all the studio veterans, and still expect a good game in the end.

look I know it's part of a much larger and trickier issue but in a vacuum, "gay people shouldn't own firearms because they will just get depressed and kill themselves" is like something my 80 year old Vietnam veteran father would remark casually during some sort of family gathering and then get REALLY surprised when absolutely everyone got mad at him
