I've been learning Unity on the learn Unity website. It's pretty cool Unity has so many free tutorials. I'm doing the Create with Code course right now cause I wanna help with coding on the game my pals and I are making. I wanted to learn how to code in college but my school was pretty much completely art-based so there wasn't any classes, sadly. Big L. But now I get to learn on my own and hopefully get a decent handle on building scripts and setting up game objects to help with the game.
We're gonna make a 2.5D dark fantasy merfolk survial rpg. It's gonna be so cool! There's gonna be a bunch of different mer species and crazy underwater monsters! We're also a bunch of neurodivergent nerds, so theres gonna be a bunch of references and wacky characters. My favorite so far is a bubbly seahorse mer dude who's a merchant and pregos. There's also a shark knight whose story is turning out to be so tragic. There's also a seal Selkie outcast that wants to be a mer, so they only wear half their skin.
The team also wants to have little collectible animal companions to travel with. A small shark, maybe a sand shark. Probably an eel. Not totally sure yet, we haven't made a list of them all yet.
So pretty cool, right? The team and I think so at least!

This weird game idea I have
Tumblr media
I am currently learning how to program with unity, because as a friend of mine said: "Don't wait for the game you want to be made." And because I am currently really obsessed with Metroidvanias, I want to go into that direction. Probably try out a very short, simple action platformer first, before trying something larger.
But now here is the thing: I really want to make it a Solarpunk game. Because I love my Solarpunk and we need more Solarpunk games, that are neither crafters, nor city builders of some sort.
This currently puts me into the weird question: What kinda antagonists am I gonna have. Or rather: How to go about this?
I kinda would love to make it a Solarpunk vs Cyberpunk storyline. So, I don't know? Mechas as antagonists? Mechas and Cyborgs? Do the Solarpunk main characters fight to establish their Solarpunk world against a Cyberpunk world? Or is the Solarpunk world already established and a Cyberpunk group tries to destroy it?
I don't know. I really would love to hear from other people. What would you like to see?

Day 70
Took a course on Unity. For some reason I didn't have all my work in Unity saved from the last class, but at least the scripts survived. Got back everything that was missing at the end. Next on the course was a small feature and the rest of the practice was about how to create a build of the game, publish it to Google Play, connect Unity Ads for monetization through display ads.
Tomorrow I'll continue practicing the course and now I have a new project waiting for me. You will definitely understand what game copy I will create in it.

are you able to access the direct image files of pentiment? id love to but i havent figured it out yet. if you can, could you access the little manicule cursor thats used throughout the game? i think it would be great to have on its own. thank you!!!!!
hey hey! i did extract some files from the game a couple years back -- i've been meaning to do a replay but as of now i don't have the game installed, nor the program i used to unpack. i'll get round to it as i can, but in the meantime you might give it a go on your own - it's easy and fun:
-download a unity unpacking program (i think the one i used was assetripper?)
-find the pentiment file in your game folder
-browse the files for the cursor (which is probably a static image file. if you're very lucky, the file is also called "cursor" so you can search for it directly)
-if the file is not in a format you want/can use, search for "[file extension] to [jpg/png/whatever you need] converter online" and use that
-chill for 20 minutes and serve at room temperature. garnish with lime

Day 13-14 coding progress. Well got a migraine last night and passed out, and had my game development class to teach today, so I finally got time in the evening.
Yesterday I made a sword in Asset Forge for getting things ready for the upcoming game jam! Today I decided to get back to my Maui app which is now called Puppy Tasks. I am having issues as you can see... I can't get my Moods enum to show up correctly. I've tried 2 different ways of implementing this and I'm so frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.
Tomorrow I'll be working at this problem more until it's fixed

Fellow game devs who are fleeing Unity, what are your thoughts on Godot vs Unreal for making 2D games? I know Unreal is pretty over-powered for most 2D development, but given I'm used to Unity, how is Godot feature-wise? Are there any features it's noticeably lacking?

So for those of you who haven't seen the news about Unity, they're going to be charging developers a fee of up to $0.20 per installation of the game (this varies by which version of Unity you are using, and isn't implemented until a threshold is met).
This is a huge blow for the indie video game industry.
So many games have been made using Unity. So many.
Cuphead
Beat Saber
Cult of the Lamb
City Skylines
Hell, freaking Pokémon Go is made using Unity.
By charging this fee, a lot of studios are going to suffer. Games are going to be lost. Cult of the Lamb will no longer be for sale as of January. The studios who will remain will be the ones with the money. It's going to be harder for people to get a foot into the development industry.
Fuck you Unity.

gamification in learning and development
Gamification in learning and development, therefore, is a methodology where learning fun is brought forth through the addition of game features and elements such as challenges, rewards, and tracking the progress. Gamification keeps people motivated and hence makes education seem more exciting because learning can, in a manner of speaking, be a bit of a game.
In businesses, gamification is used to provide a rich learning experience for employees. Instead of the old ways of doing things, employees can engage in fun games to learn new skills. They can earn rewards in the process, motivating them to learn further.
This method also helps children in schools keep their minds active and focused. When children learn playing games, the more probable they are to pay attention to what they have to do so that they would do better on their studies. The instant feedback provided in the games helps students know what they do right and where they need to improve.
Macrobian Games is a company specializing in gamification in learning and development. It has developed games meant to help learners at any age learn new skills. In this case, the learners are able to increase their knowledge as they enjoy the games. for more information visit on :

I do think sometime in between Green Giant Saga stories, I might try my hand in learning a game engine that's not Unity. (Unreal engine or Godot)
To start simple, it will probably just be a dialogue system using the Twitch and Zac models I have using a comedic dialogue I've written.
