In honour of mermay, I was thinking about silly Snowbaz scenarios with a maritime theme. Then I went into a fugue state and when I woke up I had a 4 page outline for a fic I will likely not have time to write for the foreseeable future. But I'll share some sentences (more than 6, oops) from the outline so you can suffer with me.

Capt Cadwallader is dangerously in debt and at risk of losing his ship if he doesn’t make payment on time. He and his crew are commissioned by a mysterious man named Smith to capture a mermaid. Smith’s protege Shepard, a keen marine biologist, is along for the ride and to keep an eye on Smith’s commission. Cadwallader’s crew includes his son Simon (bit of an inept sailor but at least he doesn’t get seasick anymore)(Simon is determined to prove himself a good sailor to increase his prospects with the girl back home he’s planning on proposing to, Agatha) and Simon’s best friend / Davy’s cartographer Penelope. They successfully capture a mermaid who Simon is convinced keeps trying to seduce him with her siren’s song. Shep points out the mermaid is a ‘he’ not a ‘she’ (mermaids, like ladybirds, are referred to as such regardless of gender). “Ladybirds aren’t all ladies, dragonflies aren’t all dragons.. well some of them are but that’s not the point.” The mermaid (Baz of course) is morally opposed to using his thrall for seduction. He is, however, intent on drowning every one of the crew in order to protect his family from capture.

I wish all books were advertised like this. It had me at ‘the mortifying ordeal of being known’ and then I read ‘the kings scribe-with-benefits’ 😂 I particularly look forward to the period-typical heresy. Do I even need to see a blurb?? I am already sold.

Today the Church remembers st.Alphege of Canterbury, Archbishop, Monk, and Martyr.

Ora pro nobis.

St. Alphege, also known as Ælfheah, was born around 953 AD, supposedly in Weston on the outskirts of Bath, and became a monk early in life.”He first entered the monastery of Deerhurst, but then moved to Bath, where he became an anchorite. He was noted for his piety and austerity and rose to become abbot of Bath Abbey. Indications are that Ælfheah became abbot at Bath by 982 AD, perhaps as early as around 977. He perhaps shared authority with his predecessor Æscwig after 968.

Probably due to the influence of Dunstan, the Archbishop of Canterbury (959–988), Ælfheah was elected Bishop of Winchester in 984,l and was consecrated on 19 October that year. While bishop he was largely responsible for the construction of a large organ in the cathedral, audible from over a mile (1600 m) away and said to require more than 24 men to operate. He also built and enlarged the city's churches, and promoted the cult of Swithun and his own predecessor, Æthelwold of Winchester. One act promoting Æthelwold's cult was the translation of Æthelwold's body to a new tomb in the cathedral at Winchester, which Ælfheah presided over on 10 September 996.

Following a Viking raid in 994, a peace treaty was agreed with one of the raiders, Olaf Tryggvason. Besides receiving danegeld, Olaf converted to Christianityl and undertook never to raid or fight the English again. Ælfheah may have played a part in the treaty negotiations, and it is certain that he confirmed Olaf in his new faith.

In 1006, Ælfheah succeeded Ælfric as Archbishop of Canterbury, taking Swithun's head with him as a relic for the new location. He went to Rome in 1007 to receive his pallium—symbol of his status as an archbishop—from Pope John XVIII, but was robbed during his journey. While at Canterbury, he promoted the cult of Dunstan,lordering the writing of the second Life of Dunstan, which Adelard of Ghent composed between 1006 and 1011. He also introduced new practices into the liturgy, and was instrumental in the Witenagemot's recognition of Wulfsige of Sherborne as a saint in about 1012.

In 1011, the Danes again raided England, and from 8–29 September they laid siege to Canterbury. Aided by the treachery of Ælfmaer, whose life Ælfheah had once saved, the raiders succeeded in sacking the city. Ælfheah was taken prisoner and held captive for seven months. Godwine(Bishop of Rochester), Leofrun (abbess of St Mildrith's), and the king's reeve, Ælfweard were captured also, but the abbot of St Augustine's Abbey, Ælfmær, managed to escape. Canterbury Cathedral was plundered and burned by the Danes following Ælfheah's capture.

Ælfheah refused to allow a ransom to be paid for his freedom knowing the poverty of the people, and as a result was killed on 19 April 1012 at Greenwich (then in Kent, now part of London), reputedly on the site of St Alfege's Church. The account of Ælfheah's death appears in the E version of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle:

... the raiding-army became much stirred up against the bishop, because he did not want to offer them any money, and forbade that anything might be granted in return for him. Also they were very drunk, because there was wine brought from the south. Then they seized the bishop, led him to their "hustings" on the Saturday in the octave of Easter, and then pelted him there with bones and the heads of cattle; and one of them struck him on the head with the butt of an axe, so that with the blow he sank down and his holy blood fell on the earth, and sent forth his holy soul to God's kingdom.

Ælfheah was the first Archbishop of Canterbury to die a violent death. A contemporary report tells that Thorkell the Tall attempted to save Ælfheah from the mob about to kill him by offering everything he owned except for his ship, in exchange for Ælfheah's life. Ælfheah was buried in St Paul's Cathedral. In 1023, his body was moved by King Cnut to Canterbury, with great ceremony. Thorkell the Tall was appalled at the brutality of his fellow raiders, and switched sides to the English king Æthelred the Unready following Ælfheah's death.

When the Dane Cnut (Canute) became King of England in 1016, he adopted a policy of conciliation, and in 1023 he brought the body of Alphege from London to Canterbury, where he was long remembered as a martyr.

O Almighty God, by whose grace and power thy holy martyr Alphege triumphed over suffering and was faithful even unto death: Grant us, who now remember him with thanksgiving, to be so faithful in our witness to thee in this world, that we may receive with him the crown of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Counter-Attack Casualty: Leofrun

Leofrun is twenty-three-years-old. She has four children, one not yet weaned because it was easier to breastfeed than find food for him, and the oldest is five-years-old. She has been married for six years, and her husband works on the veil. He was a cotton farmer with 25-acres of land and could not farm because of the environmental changes. They decided to move before trying to grow cotton.

During a kerfuffle between the Shelter and another clan, Leofrun was shooting back with the weapon staff her husband left her. A spell from the other side barely missed her heart and major blood vessels. It was a non-descript spell, and in a few seconds, it rubbed her tissues raw until they bled. It ate through her chest wall, like an acid. The eaten-through area measured approximately one-inch in diameter, with irritation across her breast, lungs, blood vessels, and heart..

She was released from the hospital today and has to spend another month resting, and then slowly begin daily life.

The other women have been taking care of her children and helping with housework, and her youngest child is weaned now. Leofrun is extremely bored and has been considering going to school, since she will not be able to do housework for at least a year. She cannot read or write, but her children will know how and she wants to help them beyond only encouraging them if they need help. She wants to actively help them. Also, she says they might not want to attend school, which they have to by law, and they could use her as an excuse to avoid it. She does not like fighting with her children.

Leofrun sold her hair (it is shorter than a neo-Nazi after seeing the barber), wedding ring, rags, fabric scraps, extra linens, buttons, buckles, and clothing trims, extra clothes, unnecessary furniture, and finer housewares to pay the hospital bills, but it was not enough, and so she is mending and altering clothes and quilting and binding quilts. She fastens her clothes with yarn ties. Her entire family is struggling and she has not asked them for assistance, or asked anybody else. Instead, she sent a letter to their old apothecary asking if the money they deposited in case of medical emergencies could be sent to the hospital. It probably will not work, but it is worth trying.

Mrs. Duffy checks on Leofrun every day. Leofrun has to take medication and eat sick people food (gooseberries, oranges, mineral water), and for her lungs, bilberries, comfrey, fennel, figs, hazelnuts, nettles, peaches, pine nuts, almonds, walnuts, and animal lungs. For her heart, she eats chicory, endive, lettuce, sorrel, strawberries, quinces, lemons, citron, pomegranates, pears, juniper, and scorzona.

Animal offal is insanely insanely difficult to find in Halidom and currently, in Roanoke, even at an ethnic food market. Marmalade has been hunting pest birds and squirrels for her. She cannot have dairy, cruciforous vegetables (if they cause bloat, the gas can press against her lungs and make it harder to breath), added fat (again, because of bloat),

Leofrun does not like the medicine or food because she is poor and they are expensive. Her husband tells her not to worry and to “take the damn medicine and eat the damn food, please, woman.” Mrs. Duffy threatens her with feeding tubes. She does not want her children to be motherless and so she takes the medicine and eats the food.

This is my character that I play in Changeling: The Dreaming. It's been a long time since I've had such an easy, enjoyable and comfortable game. All the other games were good too, don't think so. I just feel like it's MY thing. Maybe it's the fact that I finally didn't limit myself and decided to take ALL the things I love and combine them into one character? Well, that makes sense…

Her name is Charlene René Wade, but in the fairy community she is known as Leofrun from the House Ailil. She has recently passed her Chrysalis and the Fior-Righ, but has already earned the title of knight in the course of our chronicle. She is a very emotional and passionate Autumn Sidhe from Unseelie Court. She enjoys making devious plans, participating in intrigue, unraveling other people's schemes and learning dirty secrets. More than anything, she longs to benefit the noble House Ailil. She likes to be a bit dramatic, although she loves fun and taking care of her loved ones. Sometimes she wants to appear more cold and impenetrable than she really is (she is far from it).

Like any Sidhe from House Ailil, she strives to be seen as nothing less than ideal and when that naturally doesn't happen… It hurts her. Sometimes she gets overly emotional and allows herself to think overly violent things. Part of her is frightened by this urge to burn cities and shoot at knees and… Charlene doesn't usually remember what happens next. A piece of her life falls out of her memory and it's good if she finds herself in a familiar place. She doesn't know, but in these moments that very part of her really wants to placate the universe and show that she is not bad, but on the contrary the kindest girl in the world.

Because of that, Charlene has a bad reputation, too

I am frantically prepping for London Comic Con and UK Games Expo while swimming against the tide of fatigue, so I am late on posting (ironically having initially drafted this days ago 🌝) but I'm not sure these can be described as WIPs... more like works to possibly be resurrected? Context and photos below the cut.

I was procrastinating spring cleaning and going through my old plan chest last weekend when I found some paintings and sketches I made about 5-7 years ago. Some will be binned, others given to old clients, but these ones I am keeping to turn into new things. I'm not sure what I'll do with them all yet. Maybe cut some up? Paint stuff on them? What would you do?

Eyo! I was able to draw this on my dad’s phone! so meet my two ocs! the staff and wand arent the final designs but have the twins full designs! Also! if I can get more than 5 likes, ill be making a book about these two and their partners! Meet Ophelia and Leofrun!, the same age as Jack, They’re both half norweigans, the other half shall not be specified (If Im able to make the book then ill reveal what the other half is later in the book) They also use broomsticks, but since Fairy Tale Island isnt that much of a fan of witches so they use an invisibilty spell while they fly and they have freckles! its not that visible in the picture tho, im sorry Ophelia x Red Riding Hood Leofrun x Average  (Any thoughts on these ships? I’ll take up the criticism for the ships UwU)
