‘HEEL TURN’ is the long awaited & highly desired sophomore LP from LESSER CARE (@lessercare) & y'all can rest easy, the wait was well worth it as our boys done did it.

The El Paso-based duo, comprised of composer/lyricist/vocalist/guitarist Andres Chavez & drummer/percussionist/vocalist Zane Pacillas (w/ a special shoutout to bassist/guitarist Angel Yglecias) are the breath of fresh air that we’ve needed for some time & across a 12-track spread have further refined & mastered their brand of street_wearing, dream_gazing & Alt_rocking PostPunk. 

“God’s Favorite” sets the scene/vibe, letting you know, this isn’t the same ole stroll through the post-punk-park…

“Cry Orchid” is the first proper track & it puts Lesser Care’s confidence on full display by showcasing a softer side that brilliantly blends their brooding tendencies w/ a wash of dream_poppin textures while “Streetwear” brings those glammy gloomer goods & “Intuition” recalls the expert melancholic moodiness their big bros in Soft Kill have made a name from (those subtly massive drum fills tho).

“Candy” is all saccharine rush & ringing guitars (& more sick ass fills) while “Heavenly” finds the boys linking up w/ vocalist Haley Anne & stepping their game up to higher dreamPOP levels w/out dialing back any of the melancholy across 4 synth laden mins as “Even After Everything Changed (Feat: Tobias Grave)" brings a loaded 3:42 clip moodily lit & emotionally surged AltPop.

“Bubblegum Machine” ups the oomph across 3 mins of buzzsaw guitars & swinging beats while “Gloss” & “Something New” once again prove that our boys know their way around some atmospherically trapped SynthPop…. Which brings us to the one-two closing punch of “Finally Bare” & “Light Blue,” the former w/ its hard hitting swing (not to mention that final third guitar burst) & the latter’s bringing-it-all-home vibe as LC collect, disperse & hone in on all the sounds/vibes of the past 11 tracks while channeling them into a cohesively wrapped 5 min package.

‘Heel Turn’ is the sound of Lesser Care rising too the occasion & surpassing all our hope, desires & wishes… this is the sound of well heeled progress.

It doesn’t seem like post-punk and hardcore would have much to do with one another. Besides both being offshoots of punk, they went in very different directions. Post-punk took a more cerebral approach to punk’s minimalism, while hardcore turned up the volume and the violence. To anthropomorphize them a bit, if you took them to a party, post-punk would spend the night leaning against the wall and…

can’t help but think of how, if we choose to go by sirius’ characterisation as a private, arrogant teen who only lets a select few into his circle, sirius’ post-azkaban life just have been such an utterly humiliating experience for him.

especially OoTP. when he has all these near strangers in his childhood house, that he hated and loved and ran away from and couldn’t ever escape. if he spent his entire pre-azkaban existence building a cold and aloof persona, not letting people know what his home life had been like, then to have all of these people get a front row seat to it because of kreacher and portrait walburga’s shenanigans must have been near unbearable. to have the entire order, including snape whom he disliked and mistrusted, hear the kinds of names he’s being called.

not only does he have to deal with the retraumatisation of his childhood, but also the fact that he’s flayed open for everyone to see. it’s not only his freedom, innocence, dignity that has been snatched from him but his privacy also. it’s such a cruel thing to experience, on top of everything else.

to have literal children, his godson who he has been kept away from all this while, whom he presumably wants to be able to look up to him, to have him see into the deepest parts of his soul. to have to be so weak in front of him. not only is he subjected to such vileness but he also cannot do anything about it.

sirius has not had a moment of peace in all the time we knew him. it is indignity upon indignity that is heaped onto him. every other character has gotten a moment of respite but him. it fully breaks my heart.

A thing I find really important about the way Kevin Can Fuck Himself goes about its job: Allison is kind of a mess. She’s self-centered, she doesn’t put other people’s needs first, she makes reckless choices that endanger herself and others. And the show says: yes. Right. She’s flawed as fuck. And she still does not deserve any of what’s happening to her. It could be argued that she is, in fact, this flawed as a direct product of her trauma. Her self-absorption, unlike Kevin’s, is actually self-preservation. It puts Patty in danger. It tunes out Diane’s pain. It capitalizes on Sam’s relationship problems. And still, the show says: yes. Right. She’s going about this in fumbling, worrying ways. And she still does not deserve any of what’s happening to her.

Know how we know this? How we really know this, outside of our own objectivity, our own awareness of the abuse she’s enduring even to the soundtrack of laughter?

Because Tammy is the one to find her. Because Tammy is the one holding the cards at the end of the game. Tammy, who does not like Allison. Who sees so clearly the complicated, messy, dangerous person Allison can be. The mistakes she is prone to making in the name of desperation. How imperfect she is at every level. And Tammy, who is the character most explicitly set to call Allison on all of her shit, to drag her before a court of law, to lean on that hot-button of whether or not she’s a “good person” until it breaks—lets her go. Folds the cards up, puts them in her pocket, and leaves.

Because Tammy, like the show, like the thesis statement of abuse is never earned, never deserved, never warranted, understands. This is a world that so often sanitizes women after it’s too late to save them. A world that insists she should have done more to get out. A world that insists you should be kind and moral and perfect, or maybe you got what was coming to you. This is a world that sees fighting back as an equally heinous crime. As punishable, if not more so, than the actions of the instigator.

But this show doesn’t want to play that game. This show doesn’t want to fuck with it at all. Allison doesn’t have to be perfect and moral and above reproach. Allison has blood on her hands, and a DUI neatly ignored, and knowingly has an affair with her married boss. Allison hurts her friends sometimes, and she makes awful decisions out of desperation, and she doesn’t always pay attention to other people’s plotlines. And the show says: yes. Right. She’s making choices you probably should not agree with.

And she still does not deserve any of what is happening to her.

Ok I have like, almost no proof for this but I think that the Masked Thing was one of Edwin's victims

On one hand Edwin references killing the neighbors who check on him but more interestingly he says he can "take [them] with [him]" and "Make [them] right" which, to me at least, implies either an improved technique since then, or that 'killing' them doesn't necessarily mean the conventional sense of the word

There's quite a few superficial similarities between the two: the Schrodinger's physical body, the preference for the dark, and the limited ability to interact with the world outside of said dark.

It's understanding of human desires also seems to have deteriorated to roughly the same level's as Edwin's (not realizing that trying to assimilate Sam is kinda rude), though it is slightly more capable of reason, and accept when Sam says no (Possibly because it never saw the visitor and isn't fixated on it the same way Edwin is).

We know from a few characters that looking at the Visitor isn't the only way to be changed, and if what it does to Sam is anything similar to what Edwin did to it, then I think we have a good idea of how it came to look like that.

As I said the proof for this is a little sparse and possibly anecdotal but I don't think we have any other indicators as to where it came from so do with this wild speculation what you will.

Also im gonna be real i feel like a lot of people dont quite grasp the importance of crozier's irishness in the narrative and how that affects literally everything he does and everyone he interacts with INCLUDING sophia

To me, the difference between the Doctor and the Master isn't that the Doctor is good and the Master is evil; it's that the Doctor is kind, and that's something the Master could never understand, no matter how hard they try.
