In the realm of structural engineering, ensuring the safety and reliability of built structures is paramount. Engineers employ various methods of structural design to achieve this goal, each with its own principles and considerations. Among these methods are the Limit State Design (LSD), Working Stress Design (WSD), and Ultimate Load Design (ULD).
Understanding Limit State Design (LSD)
Limit State Design (LSD) is a method of structural design based on the concept of limiting states of a structure, beyond which it is deemed unfit for its intended purpose. The primary goal of LSD is to ensure the safety and serviceability of structures under all expected loading conditions throughout their design life.
LSD considers two fundamental limit states:
1. Ultimate Limit State (ULS): The Ultimate Limit State represents the condition at which the structure reaches its ultimate capacity to resist loads without collapsing or experiencing excessive deformation. In LSD, structural elements are designed to ensure that their ultimate strength exceeds the applied loads, thereby preventing failure under extreme conditions. 2. Serviceability Limit State (SLS): The Serviceability Limit State addresses factors such as deflection, vibration, and durability, ensuring that the structure remains functional and comfortable for its intended use throughout its design life. LSD aims to control deflections and other deformations within acceptable limits to maintain structural integrity and user satisfaction.
The design process in LSD involves determining the critical load combinations, analyzing the structure's response under these loads, and verifying that the limit states are not exceeded. Structural elements are sized and detailed based on the principles of structural mechanics and material behavior, accounting for factors such as load distribution, member stiffness, and connection detailing.
Understanding Working Stress Design (WSD)
Working Stress Design (WSD), also known as Allowable Stress Design (ASD), is a traditional method of structural design based on the concept of working stresses within the elastic range of materials. Unlike LSD, which focuses on limiting states of failure, WSD relies on permissible stresses derived from material properties and safety factors to ensure structural performance.

if anyone is wondering why loading screens seem to break and show the grey llama image instead of the plumbob, it's because they changed the instance number of one of the plumbob image assets from 6aec0ad1d1ed59c2 to 6aec09d1d1ed580a.

yeah, a simple change in the instance number is all you need to make a UI mod break, among a couple of other things 🥰 this happens if your loading screen mod only includes the ScaleFormGFX file (where you change the background) and doesn't include the plumbob image assets that has the old instance #.
how it works:
Mod includes an old GFX file and its associated image asset(s) w/ the old instance # -> UI doesn't break, game reverts to the old loading screen as a result. (Think of TMEX's Clean UI that keeps the old main menu design.)
Mod includes only the old GFX file, while the image asset w/ new instance # comes from the game files' itself -> UI breaks, there's now a disconnect between the old GFX file and the new image asset.
(more details on why/how ui mods break the way they do at some other time)
so in theory, if you are to import all of the older plumbob image assets (before 22 Oct update) into your loading screen mod and keep the old instance numbers as they were, your loading screen will "fix" itself because the GFX file in your mod can now find the image asset that it was tied to, or as stated on the 2nd point above, revert to an old version of the loading screen.

(plumbob looks janky because I didn't use the old image assets and used the new ones instead)
anyway. off I go to update my ui mods and come back in a few days 🫠

Advice for writing when it’s starting to feel tedious: Set a timer for 5 minutes and just write as much as you can. Either, give yourself a break after that (e.g. 5 minutes writing, 5 minutes break — or longer if you need) or you’ll find that it’s flowing better again and just start the timer over again until you need a break :)

so have we figured out a way to batch convert folders of screencaps into dicom files instead of me doing this one by one like a dweeb

it's silly to be a guy who almost exclusively reads nonfiction these days because you go up to your friends or whatever and be like "oh man this one line really hits i'm still thinking about it" and instead of some gorgeous prose from some fantasy novel or something you take the book out to share it and it's from a text about behavioral economics

does a little pose. guess who just discovered that diffsinger voicebanks with voice colours can have their colours put in the expressions panel so you draw automation for them instead of just applying them to each note full throttle. does another little pose.

these days im only ever interested in sims for a few days at a time so i can play dolls with my other video game ocs, However i think i'd be more interested in it if i didnt have to wrestle with the fawking game to open every single time i want to play.
like for the past year or so ive been having issues opening the game, frequent "corrupted or missing game files" errors and constant crashing on the first loading screen. it literally started out of nowhere, on a fresh install!!, and has just gotten progressively worse. ive done the 50/50 method with my mods like 6 times at this point its never consistent. sometimes taking out backup saves works, mind you ive only been running the game with 1 single save in that ive saved as multiple times and then taken out the old ones just in case. i literally have a spreadsheet of all my mods and when they were last updated and downloaded that i constantly check and i get rid of ones that haven't been updated in a while. the game tends to not crash when those folders are in so it must be cc right? so ill do 50/50 and think ive narrowed it down but then itll crash without those folders, ill put them back in just to double check and suddenly it works. but then the next time i go to play the game wont open.
i mod dragon age and bethesda games to smithereens and have never had issues like this with those notoriously finicky games its absurd

Loaded language Loaded language carries an emotional connotation—positive or negative. A loaded term communicates something beyond its literal meaning; it communicates how the author feels about the subject in question. This may be perceived as trying to sway the reader’s opinion through appeal to emotion.
