A Deeper Look Into The Role of NGOs in Addressing Global Challenges
Tumblr media
In an ever-evolving world facing multifaceted challenges, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) stand as beacons of hope, playing a pivotal role in addressing global issues. From environmental conservation to human rights advocacy, NGOs operate across diverse domains, leveraging their unique strengths to foster positive change. Their significance lies not just in their ability to fill gaps left by governments but also in their agility, innovation, and ability to mobilize resources efficiently.
Empowering Communities:
NGOs serve as catalysts for community empowerment. They often work closely with local populations, understanding their needs firsthand and developing tailored solutions. By involving community members in decision-making processes, NGOs ensure that initiatives are sustainable and culturally sensitive, thereby amplifying their impact.
Advocacy and Awareness:
Raising awareness is a potent tool for change. NGOs excel in advocacy, using their platforms to highlight pressing global issues. Through campaigns, education programs, and media outreach, they engage the public and policymakers, shaping discourse and influencing policy agendas.
Filling Governance Gaps:
NGOs step in where governmental mechanisms may fall short. Whether responding to humanitarian crises, providing healthcare in underserved regions, or advancing education in marginalized communities, NGOs bridge the gap, offering vital services where there’s a vacuum.
Innovative Solutions:
Their flexibility allows NGOs to pioneer innovative solutions. With the freedom to experiment and adapt swiftly, they test new ideas and technologies, often serving as incubators for approaches that can later be scaled up or adopted by governments.
Accountability and Transparency:
Most NGOs operate with a commitment to transparency and accountability. They’re often held to high ethical standards, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that the intended beneficiaries receive support. This fosters trust among donors and stakeholders, further enabling their work.
Global Collaborations:
Collaboration among NGOs, governments, businesses, and international bodies is crucial in tackling global challenges. NGOs often serve as facilitators, fostering partnerships and collaborations that pool resources and expertise from diverse sectors, leading to more holistic and impactful solutions.
Challenges Faced by NGOs:
However, NGOs are not without challenges. Sustainability of funding, navigating complex political landscapes, ensuring long-term impact, and maintaining neutrality in polarized environments are recurring hurdles. Additionally, the increasing scrutiny of their operations demands stringent accountability measures.
The Way Forward:
To enhance their effectiveness, NGOs must continuously evolve. Embracing technology for wider reach, fostering stronger partnerships, diversifying funding sources, and prioritizing sustainability are crucial steps. Collaborations between NGOs and other sectors must deepen, leveraging collective strengths for greater global impact.
The role of NGOs in addressing global challenges is indispensable. Their agility, community-centric approaches, advocacy, and innovative solutions contribute to creating a more equitable and sustainable world. As we navigate the complexities of the 21st century, the collaboration between governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders remains imperative for forging a path toward a better future.

Funny, cuz she's had "your" man for what? 16? 17 years now?
I don't usually make my own posts about the Georgia vs the tinhatters bullshit, but this is just absurd.
This is a fucking adult woman. 29 years old.
And there are plenty of other people like her too. *cough* ingrav. *cough* NGO.
Here's just one genuine question I have for the tinhatters. Other than, "can you stop being imbeciles for once," obviously. Aren't you guys tired? Like, genuinely. To take time out of your day to talk shit about a woman who simply exists must be exhausting. For so little payoff, too. (seriously, y'all need to work on your insults, because this is just embarrassing)
Actually, I lied. One more question. If you could see David, who is obviously your #1 male crush, idol, pookie boy who cant take care of, or stand up for himself (tinhatters words, not mine), and you could tell him everything that you have said about Georgia....how do you honestly think he'd react? Forget about your head cannons of him and Michael, and forget about your head cannons of Georgia being abusive for a MOMENT. You can do it, I believe in you. And think of how David tennant, one of the kindest people in the world, would react to you using your words to tear down his wife. Tear down a person in general. Do you think he'd be proud to call you his fan?
(Btw, im only using David as an example because they're obsessed with him, and if you reference Georgia, the tinhatters completely lose interest and start foaming at the mouth, needing to be put in a corner for 12 days before they can form a proper thought)
Literally everyone knows that the real reason you ship David and Michael is because its two less women out of the way, which makes your weird, immature minds think that you somehow have more of a chance to win him. Its okay. We know. You're not slick. Or creative. Or clever. Or likable. Or worth anyones time to listen to.

Breaking news: it’s now abusive to record someone doing something cute or funny. Someone better start rounding up every single TikToker that ever surprised their parents or pranked their siblings, every mom that ever recorded a sweet video of her kids, throw me in jail for taking a video of my sister today cause she was be bopping in the bathroom, my mom for taking a video of my dad sleeping with the cats he claimed he didn’t want, throw David in there for taking photos of Georgia with their kids without her knowing. Michael for taking a photo of Anna sleeping with Lyra and literally everyone else. Ever taken a photo of David and Michael at a con? Jail (includes you ngo and ingravinoveritas) ever recorded at a con? Jail. Taken photos of landmarks in public and accidentally caught someone in the background? JAIL JAIL JAIL JAIL JAIL

Climate whiplash is already hitting major cities around the world, bringing deadly swings between extreme wet and dry weather as the climate crisis intensifies, a report has revealed.
Dozens more cities, including Lucknow, Madrid and Riyadh have suffered a climate “flip” in the last 20 years, switching from dry to wet extremes, or vice versa. The report analysed the 100 most populous cities, plus 12 selected ones, and found that 95% of them showed a distinct trend towards wetter or drier weather.
The changing climate of cities can hit citizens with worsened floods and droughts, destroy access to clean water, sanitation and food, displace communities and spread disease. Cities where the water infrastructure is already poor, such as Karachi and Khartoum, suffer the most.
Cities across the world are affected but the data shows some regional trends, with drying hitting Europe, the already-parched Arabian peninsula and much of the US, while cities in south and south-east Asia are experiencing bigger downpours.
The analysis illustrates the climate chaos being brought to urban areas by human-caused global heating. Too little or too much water is the cause of 90% of climate disasters. More than 4.4 billion people live in cities and the climate crisis was already known to be supercharging individual extreme weather disasters across the planet.
Rising temperatures, driven by fossil fuel pollution, can exacerbate both floods and droughts because warmer air can take up more water vapour. This means the air can suck more water from the ground during hot, dry periods but also release more intense downpours when the rains come.
“Our study shows that climate change is dramatically different around the world,” said Prof Katerina Michaelides, at the University of Bristol, UK. Her co-author, Prof Michael Singer at Cardiff University, described the pattern as “global weirding”.
“Most places we looked at are changing in some way, but in ways that are not always predictable,” Singer said. “And given that we’re looking at the world’s largest cities, there are really significant numbers of people involved.”
Coping with climate whiplash and flips in cities is extremely hard, said Michaelides. Many cities already face water supply, sewage and flood protection problems as their populations rapidly swell. But global heating supercharges this, with the often ageing infrastructure in rich nations designed for a climate that no longer exists, and more climate extremes making the establishment of much-needed infrastructure even harder in low income nations.
The researchers have worked in Nairobi, Kenya, one of the cities suffering climate whiplash. “People were struggling with no water, failed crops, dead livestock, with drought really impacting their livelihoods and lives for multiple years,” Michaelides said. “Then the next thing that happens is too much rain, and everything’s flooded, they lose more livestock, the city infrastructure gets overwhelmed, water gets contaminated, and then people get sick.”
Sol Oyuela, executive director at NGO WaterAid, which commissioned the analysis, said: “The threat of a global ‘day zero’ looms large – what happens when the 4 billion people already facing water scarcity reach that breaking point, and the food, health, energy, nature, economies, and security that depend on water are pushed to the brink?”

the definitive dictionary and almanac of Tinhattery
hi, this will be a list of the main misogynistic accounts, definitions people have questions about, accounts you should follow and abbreviations— let’s gooo!! If you’re tagged in this I probably put you on the accounts to follow section. Adding a cut here because it’s long and gonna get longer
definitions!!!!
LCB- Used to stand for letscoffeebreak, she has since changed her username to dejadestalkearmeloser.
NGO- Nightgoodomens
Ingrav, Amy- Ingravinoveritas.
tardisrose- thetardisisblueandroseistoo
Tinhatters- A group of (mostly) tumblr users who think everything in these two relationships are fake and the women are abusive and the men want to run away.
Queeranoners- same as above, my favourite way to refer to them, coined by the amazing @theeminentlyimpractical
sheenbergs- Mix for Michael and Anna’s name
sheenbergnant- the amalgamation of the four bad bitches we love
sheenant- ship name for David and Michael. (Remember kids: shipping is cool but it’s fictional!!)
DT- David Tennant (Georgias husband)
MS- Michael Sheen (Anna’s boyfriend)
GT- Georgia Tennant
AL- Anna Lundberg
PR- public relations
GM- a
delegitimising way of referring to Georgia by refusing to use her last name. Instead use her maiden name. Note how they don’t refer to David as David McDonald
APAT- usually used by tinhatters (stands for Anna Plain And Tall) to refer to Anna Lundberg
PR (Tinhatter definition) - an omnipresent being forcing two rich white men who constantly champion human rights and lgbtq acceptance into a hetero relationship because they just are so oppressed and abused and not because they love their partners!
PR (actual definition) -the professional activities of an agency hired by a person, company, or other entity to shape, create, and manipulate that person/company’s public image. A public relations firm is often useful in helping a company manage its media reputation when a crisis happens, in order to attempt to minimize false information or slanderous statements which could damage reputations.
Shipping- Shipping (derived from the word relationship) is the desire by followers of a fandom for two or more people, either real-life people or fictional characters (in film, literature, television series, etc.), to be in a romanticrelationship. Shipping often takes the form of unofficial creative works, including fanfictionand fan art.
Shipping (Tinhat definition) - NO THEY HATE THEIR PARTNERS AND WANT TO FUCK EACH OTHER LOOK HE BLINKED IN HIS VICINITY THEIR PARTNERS ARE ABUSIVE I SWEAR
GREATEST HITS (posts that killed Tinhatters, feel free to submit your favourites in my inbox)
The breakdown of an anon
tassel jokes
backstreet cringe
Ingravinoveritas admitting it
Laurens amazing fuck off post that snowballed into half the fandom straight up saying fuck you to these people
HALL OF SHAME (Worst of tinhatters, again feel free to submit more)
‱ Taraiha’s rivals meltdown
NGO hates this fandom for
calling her out
it’s not a choice to be weird and creepy about people’s lives! (Again shipping is fine. This shit is not!!!)
it’s okay if you attack women just don’t criticise Michael Sheen (no idea what she was talking about with David) this same lady had another absolutely dog shit post I guess she removed?!
How dare women
have fun at their birthday parties?? (Part 1)
for a group constantly sexualizing David and Michaels every movement we can’t stand when a woman shows a little chest and has fun
Accounts you should follow!!!!:
@goodomenswarning - same purpose as this account, hilarious, an amazing friend
@badaziraphaletakes - calls out shitty takes in good omens as well, so much more level headed about toxicity than I am but I love talking shit with them. @thegeorgiatennantblog - best Georgia content
@fightingalgth8rs -bad bitches calling out extreme sexism
@phoen1xr0se - one of the best and I devour everything she posts
@davidtennantgenderenvy stands up for what’s right in the fandom, one of my idols and stuck up for me during a vulnerable time.
lmk more I need to add because I’m definitely missing some
THE REPEAT OFFENDERS (booo 🍅🍅):
Ingravinoveritas- one of the bigger ones, refuses to believe Georgia does anything nice for David, or that any of them actually like their partners. Can’t stop fetishizing gay male relationships to save her life. If David blinks he apparently wants to be bent over. Likes to pretend she’s not as bad as the others but has some of the wildest takes and said she felt threatened and scared for her life at someone making a Shakespearean reference. Professional victim
Nightgoodomens- a particularly nasty motherfucker. So toxic she’s quarantined. Misogynistic, ableist, um
yeah not much to say there except for the fact that apparently anything that David does that involves his wife means he’s forced into it. Would rather see them as abused puppies than accept they love their partners. Heavy on the homophobia and bi erasure since yes, fetishization isn’t allyship, it is homophobia. Everything is PR. She doesn’t know what PR means nor that David and Michael are not nearly important enough to have a 24/7 team controlling all social media and personal aspects of their lives. Neil gaiman apologist who blamed his sexual assault revelations on David’s support of trans people. Denies women flirting with each other and boils it to PR friendships??!?
Dejadestalkearmeloser- pretty much the same as nightgoodimens, flips shit when you call her out on it, I mean look at her pinned post about me and you’ll see. Also apparently I’m every account that doesn’t like her. Seems to have a problem with lesbians not liking her (wonder why lesbians don’t like the misogynistic people who only talk about the lgbtq community when it comes to fetishising mlm relationships)
Thetardisisbluesndroseistoo- flips shit at Georgia getting credit for anything, lost her shit on someone saying that Georgia has educated David on lgbtq allyship (he quite literally said himself that she does) later deleted posts when I called her out. Can’t stop laughing at that
invisibleicewands- really, really creepy about Anna, delving into her past and family to try and find
something. Body shaming. Mom shaming. The usual misogyny.
dtmsrpf- I guess a spoof on my name, belongs to one of the others on this list. The usual misogyny with a particular axe to grind against their looks and other things. Definitely a little salty.
georgiatennantunofficial (instagram)- extremely fucking gross. Body shaming and misogyny. Usual. You guys see a pattern yet?

"STRONGER" MUSIC VIDEO FASHION CREDITS
Tumblr media
Kesha has never shied away from exploring personal transformation through her music and visuals, and in the music video for "Stronger" —her electrifying 2021 collaboration with DJ Sam Feldt— she takes that journey inward. With striking imagery, the video sets the stage for a powerful internal showdown, as Kesha embodies two opposing versions of herself in a symbolic battle for self-empowerment and resilience.
Tumblr media
Kesha opens the video in a fierce feline fantasy that plays with texture, print and edge. She wears the "Night Cat" velvet crystal printed leggings and matching top by Ezgi Cinar, a look that hugs her frame like second skin and shimmers under the lights.
Tumblr media
© Arun Nevader
Layered over this purring perfection is a bold, black patent leather studded cross belt from Michael Ngo’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection, which adds structure and a rebellious streak to the soft velvet.
Tumblr media
Around her neck, Kesha channels retro glam with the crystal tiger choker from the iconic Versace x H&M 2011 collection.
Tumblr media
She also donned a leopard micro-beret with crin-swish from Piers Atkinson's Fall/Winter 2018 collection.
Tumblr media
Kesha’s jewelry is from Shine Like Me, including the standout "Tres" gold ring, which adds a touch of golden glow to the dark, dazzling palette.
Tumblr media
© Arun Nevader
For her second look, Kesha leans into chrome and armor-like shine. She wears the "Faith" silver chrome blazer-trench by Michael Ngo, a sculptural, mirror-like piece that feels straight out of a sci-fi dream.
Tumblr media
Around her neck is another statement from Michael Ngo: the "Valentine's" silver chrome vinyl choker, which matches the jacket’s futuristic mood.
Tumblr media
Her rings, once again from Shine Like Me, tie the look together. In this case, she wore the “Tres” silver ring, the silver burst ring and the standout "Sphinx” ring.

A Northwestern University professor—hired as part of a deal with anti-Israel groups to end last year’s encampment—sits on the boards of two organizations that were founded by and frequently partner with Palestinian terrorists, a Washington Free Beacon review found.
Last year, Northwestern president Michael Schill struck a deal withïżœïżœradical student groups, including Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), to end their encampment, agreeing to recruit two Palestinian professors and provide full rides to five students from Gaza.
Northwestern tapped Mkhaimar Abusada last fall as a visiting associate professor of political science to fill the first of those faculty slots, teaching a weekly undergraduate course on the "Palestinian National Movement."
Abusada also serves on the boards of two organizations that present themselves as human rights groups—the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR)—that, in reality, maintain close ties to terrorists. ICHR has praised Hamas and met with the terror group’s leaders, including Ismail Haniyeh, while PCHR has Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) members on its payroll—with one serving as its leader.
NGO Monitor president Gerald Steinberg condemned Northwestern for hiring Abusada.
"His employment as a faculty member is a heinous violation of basic academic norms and moral principles," he said.
Scholars for Peace in the Middle East executive director Asaf Romirowsky echoed that sentiment.
"When you're signing an agreement with SJP and their sympathizers, they're going to find people who are in agreement with their echo chamber of individuals," he said.
"The number one issue is that the institutions are doing no background checks," Romirowsky added. "This is not a matter of academic freedom. This is a matter of national security. This is a matter of threats to the universities themselves. And there needs to be clear red lines."
Neither Abusada nor Northwestern responded to multiple requests for comment. Hiring Abusada could serve as a thorn in the university’s side as it faces pressure to rein in campus anti-Semitism. Last month, the Trump administration froze $790 million in federal funding to Northwestern amid a civil rights investigation into alleged anti-Semitism and racial discrimination on campus.

These are "think tanks" that are part of the government to NGO to government revolving door, and which provide nice sinecures for the Deep State operatives as they take breathers from ruining the world.  Far from distributing rice and beans to needy children, they distribute champaign and caviar to greedy bureaucrats. They are the sort of place you would expect to see a Samantha Power bloviate about saving the world, getting applause from all the people who have been, are, or will be on her payroll in some capacity.  US taxpayers showering tens of millions on these poor, poor think tanks is just one great thing your USAID dollars go to. After all, once you have done your regime change of the day, plunging countries into violent revolutions to replace a democratically elected leader with the candidate of your choice, you need some place to sit back and sip your small barrel bourbon.
...
Lest you think that the regime change effort is only in foreign countries, once you dig into the details of where all the money goes you see that it doesn't stop at our nation's shores.
Republicans have criticized both think tanks over their central roles in what’s been dubbed the "censorship-industrial complex," a network of university and think tank researchers that worked closely with federal agencies to censor content on social media. In September 2020, the Aspen Institute organized a "tabletop" exercise with journalists from the New York Times, Washington Post, and executives from Facebook and Twitter to draft a plan for how to respond to a hypothetical scenario in which Russia leaked documents stolen from Hunter Biden, according to documents uncovered by reporter Michael Shellenberger. Many of the participants—most notably Twitter—censored an accurate New York Post story about Biden’s laptop in Oct. 2020. The Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab is led by Graham Brookie, who served on the National Security Council in the Obama administration. In October 2020, Brookie claimed Trump’s "entire strategy" in the campaign that year was "based on process disinformation in this election." Days later, Brookie dismissed reports of Hunter Biden’s laptop as "unverified misinfo." He cheered Twitter’s ban of Trump’s account and "influencers of the far right" after the Jan. 6 Capitol riots as a "welcome" decision. The State Department awarded the DFRLab a $64,000 grant in September to host two workshops at the U.S. embassy in Vienna on "countering foreign information manipulation and interference," and $250,000 the same month for a project to counter disinformation in Moldova, according to spending records.

🔘LEGAL SYSTEM DISAGREEMENTS, YET MORE “DEAL” NEWS - Real time from Israel
ISRAEL REALTIME - Connecting to Israel in Realtime
( VIDEO - US Central Command: the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln is in the area [of the Middle East] )
⭕75 HEZBOLLAH ROCKETS fired at Israeli Civilian towns yesterday in the north, as well as 20-30 or so SUICIDE DRONES.
⭕HEZBOLLAH DRONE STRIKE hit a factory in Nahariya WITHOUT ALARM. No injuries.
â–ȘAPPEAL AGAINST DISMISSAL OF LEGAL “ADVISORS”.. The “Movement for the Quality of Government” NGO appealed to the High Court against the dismissal of ministerial dept legal advisors: "The continuation of the coup d'Ă©tat, during the war. The govt decision will constitute a serious injury to the independence of the legal advisory system for govt offices, and will result in significant damage to the fundamental principles of the State of Israel."
The legal advisors opinions are considered binding, and appear to often be used in apparent disagreement with ministry policies.
â–ȘPOLICE COMMISSIONER vs. ATTORNEY GENERAL.. Commissioner Danny Levy referred to the letter by Attorney General Beharve-Miarat "if he does not freeze the reassignment of the police senior legal advisor (from his advisor position to a department manager), he will be acting against the law", and replied that "the Israel Police addressed her letter last week and there is nothing to add in the matter. I am busy from morning to night fighting crime and leading the organization."
After she informed him that his decision was frozen, Levy wrote to Beharev-Miara "I do not recognize a legal obligation to consult with you before making an appointment. Your request means a de facto expropriation of my authority."
.. (Ch. 13) “Legal authorities”, the commissioner’s conduct may lead to his removal.  National Security Minister Ben Gvir: in your dreams.
â–ȘECONOMY.. Ministry of Finance: Ahead of budget discussions, the chief economist updated (REDUCED) the growth forecast for the years 2024 and 2025, to levels of 0.4% and 4.3% respectively.
♊LEBANON - Hezbollah commander of the Eyta al-Sha'ab area surrendered to the Golani fighters.
.. The Lebanese report extensive destruction in the village of Jbaa in Nabatieh district following a series of about 12 attacks on the place last night. Several buildings collapsed.
♊SYRIA - Syrian sources: Israel blew up a minefield in the area west of the village of al Qahtaniyah in the Qunaitra district in southern Syria. (This would allow rapid maneuvering.)
♊GAZA - Air Force attacked terrorists in the humanitarian area in Khan Yunis.
♊GAZA IED’s - Ch. 14, we were asked not to say that there was an explosion inside a building (where soldiers were killed). We will not hide it. 12 fighters were killed by IEDs in Jabaliya. It's time for tough questions (of why going building to building instead of air striking or tank fire.)
đŸ”čHAMAS.. Report: Muhammad Sinwar replaced his brother as the leader of Hamas.
đŸ”čUS CENTRAL COMMAND.. General Michael Korilla will arrive tomorrow for a visit to Israel.
đŸ”čUS Ambassador to the UN: The US believes that Francesca Albania, the UN's special rapporteur for the “occupied” territories, is not suitable for her position. The UN should not tolerate anti-Semitism from an official appointed to promote human rights.
🔾DEAL NEWS.. proposal of the day: new Qatari proposal: a month of truce in exchange for 11 hostages, mostly females, without ending the war.  As always, Hamas has not agreed while these are publicly floated to pressure Israel.
.. Hezbollah official: "We will not hold talks under fire.. And we have not received an official offer.” (After the visit by the US envoy.)
âœĄïžA word of Torah: Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it. - The Rambam

Democrats have a long history of inciting violence. Examples abound, from starting the Civil War, to forming the KKK, to violently resisting school integration, to the Michael Brown and George Floyd riots, to the current anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles. Democrat-run cities are typically the most dangerous, poorly run environs in the U.S., and when you push the oppressor/victim narrative across the media landscape, violence gets put on the menu.
Their rhetoric ramped up during Trump 45's administration when Democrat politicians and celebrities openly called for violence against President Trump and Republicans, even while accusing Republicans of being aggressors. And when their unhinged followers heed their suggestions, Democrats always claim to abhor violence. I heard it myself last night. I mentioned the protestors throwing bricks at federal officers, and a dinner companion said, "Well, you can only push people so far."
Perhaps we should ask the parents of Laken Riley, Kate Steinle, Rachel Morin, and Jocelyn Nungaray how far they've been pushed.
The unrest in L.A. began when ICE arrested 40 individuals who were wanted on various charges. This prompted protests that quickly escalated into violence, including attacks on federal officers. One report suggested that the riots might be government-funded, pointing to ties with radical, left-wing organizations and NGOs, some of which allegedly receive taxpayer dollars. This seems plausible, as the Democrat party leadership has a historical opposition to ICE and openly supports sanctuary city policies.
Nicole Shanahan, RFK Jr.’s vice-presidential pick, echoed this sentiment, alleging a “CIA/Deep State” involvement in using violent migrants to target federal law enforcement, a claim that aligns with narratives of orchestrated chaos.

The Trump administration’s chaotic effort to overhaul the U.S. federal government and exert control has delighted and even emboldened autocrats around the world who see the turmoil in Washington as an opportunity to advance their own crackdowns.
Slashing the federal workforce. Dismantling the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Freezing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Purging independent government watchdogs. Targeting funding at the National Institutes of Health. Cracking down on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Restricting scientists at National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Making sweeping budget cuts at the Department of Education. Sidelining some independent media.
In the past month, U.S. President Donald Trump and top advisor Elon Musk’s far-reaching joint effort to dramatically remake the federal government has sown chaos in Washington and sparked a slew of lawsuits against the administration. But abroad, the moves are being closely followed by foreign strongmen, many of whom are eager to harness the chaos to their own advantage.
Take, for example, Trump’s foreign aid freeze and effective shutdown of USAID, which has served for decades as the United States’ top humanitarian and development agency. Through foreign aid, Washington has long supported civil society groups around the world—including ones operating in repressive environments such as Russia, Hungary, and China—and experts warn that tearing down that architecture is a boon to those regimes and their own clampdowns.
The Trump administration’s dismantling of USAID “has been music to the ears of autocratic leaders in many places,” said Thomas Carothers, a democracy expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. “They’re celebrating this demise of funding to these groups and the chance to attack them.”
One of the biggest cheerleaders of the effort has been Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a longtime Trump ally who has for years waged his own campaign against nongovernmental organizations and independent media, particularly targeting those that receive U.S. funding. On social media and on state radio last week, the Hungarian strongman celebrated Trump’s gutting of USAID and claimed that the agency had backed organizations that wanted to “topple” his government.
“I think the world owes a debt of gratitude to [Trump] for uncovering and putting an end to this dark conspiracy,” Orban said in a post on X.
As the Trump administration effectively shuttered the agency, which Musk has baselessly labeled a “criminal organization,” Orban appeared to use the turmoil last week to justify his own crackdown. Hungary will now take legal action against NGOs and independent media organizations that receive aid from Washington, he announced last Friday, describing the employees of USAID-funded groups as “agents.”
“Now is the moment when these international networks have to be taken down, they have to be swept away,” he declared on state radio. “It is necessary to make their existence legally impossible.”
Trump’s and Musk’s effort to dismantle USAID was also welcomed by Iranian state media and Russian officials, with former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dubbing it a “smart move.” Russia expelled USAID from the country in 2012 after accusing it of attempting “to influence political processes through its grants.”
But Michael McFaul, who was the U.S. ambassador to Russia between 2012 and 2014, posted on X that Russian President Vladimir Putin kicked out USAID “because their work supported free markets, democracy, human rights.” Those are “causes that threatened [Putin’s] dictatorship,” he said.
“Shutting down USAID is exactly what autocrats all over the world want,” he added.
It’s not just USAID’s dissolution that is a cause for celebration for Russia; Putin is “hoping that both disruption in the U.S. will consume the U.S. and it will undercut U.S. support for Ukraine and U.S. support for democratic forces in Moldova, Georgia and elsewhere,” Carothers said.
Unlike Budapest and Moscow, the Chinese government has been largely quiet when it comes to the U.S. federal shake-up. Officials in Beijing have been focused on thwarting a trade war that will have “no winners,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.
“I think the Chinese are watching it almost in disbelief,” said Yun Sun, the director of the China program at the Stimson Center, who added that she had seen policy analysts in China liken the chaos to the Cultural Revolution.
“Given how the government agencies are being just written off and completely gutted within days, I think that reminds Chinese of [the] Cultural Revolution as the most comparable analogy in their recent memories,” she said.
The funding freeze has given China a chance to spread its influence and portray itself as the more reliable superpower. In one example, the Chinese government announced it would give $4.4 million to fund an effort previously supported by USAID to clear mines from the countryside in Cambodia—a legacy of the Vietnam War. However, experts doubt that China has the will or capacity to fully replace the U.S. presence worldwide.
Another front in Trump’s campaign to downsize the government is also delivering a win to Beijing, according to the human rights community. Cuts in funding to the State Department’s Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Bureau, which has long supported China-related human rights work, have dealt a significant blow to nonprofits in the space.
“It’ll be a sweet victory for [Chinese President] Xi Jinping, who has tried to crush these groups,” Maya Wang, the associate China director at Human Rights Watch, wrote on X.
The Trump administration’s sweeping effort to target DEI programs across the federal government may also draw cheers from leaders who have made similar pushes in their own countries, experts said.
“The attacks on DEI resonate strongly in places where illiberal leaders have already advanced these kinds of ideas, whether it’s Russia or Hungary,” said Carothers, citing efforts to roll back LGBTQ rights or progress on gender equality.
“They see it as part of their struggle, and they feel the United States is joining them in their struggle to move their countries in this direction,” he added.
