I really love these kinda "If characters from __ series went to karaoke" videos

But especially Akuneko since the cast are mostly rising stars (except the Villa butlers' cracked VAs). Man, that Lamli & Ammon's song is super good like wth
Songs on the list:

That kamigami keshin, featuring teniwoha, R sound design, etc?? Illust by Akiakane??? That's so cool man. I feel so disoriented with so many music multi media projects I've never heard before in this list :| (Remote ☆ Host, STATION IDOL LATCH!, Fabulous Night, CARNELIAN BLOOD, kamigami keshin)

I have an ambitious idea for a multi-media project
Long: details under cut
Preface:
Adam Savage is known for making meticulous replicas of the Grail Diary from Indiana Jones 3; they're printed on authentic onionskin paper, stitched together and bound with leather like a real old journal would be, stuffed with inserts like folded up drawings, maps, post cards, letters, wax rubbings, tickets from ships and blimps, receipts, to-do lists, photos made to look like they were taken with late 19th/early 20th century cameras, an old silver certificate dollar, Hitler's autograph, you name it. The ten dollar word of the day is "verisimilitude." These super high fidelity replicas are more than just props, they're meant to feel like a real lived-in historical document kept by a globetrotting adventurer from the 1890s to 1930s.
Gravity Falls Journal 3 wanted to be like this, but it's mass market, printed on glossy paper with fake weathering and fonts that look like handwriting. If Adam Savage made a Journal 3 replica, it would look and feel like a real field journal from the 1970s; it would have crinkly yellow pages with mold/water damage, the cover would have brass or gold foil inlays, each entry would be handwritten (and you would be able to tell it wasn't just a font because every letter would have realistic variability in shape and size, there would be a different number of lines per page, the margins would drift, it would be sloppy and illegible in parts)
JJ Abrams published a book that came close to this aesthetic, a nice midway point between the Grail Diary and Journal 3 in terms of quality. A collab with Doug Dorst, the book is sold under the title "S." but once you take it out of its slipcover it's a meta-fictional artifact made to look like an old cloth-bond library copy of a (fictional) novel from the 1940s called The Ship of Theseus by VM Straka. The text of the novel is inconsequential, a dry story about a sailor being Shanghaid onto a pirate crew (it's actually pretty authentic, evoking the feeling of being forced to read an overrated novel for high school English class), but the book is full of faux-handwritten notes in the margins with multiple characters trading it back and forth (with different colored pens used to show the passage of time), telling a whole new story about their attempts to crack the case of the author's mysterious disappearance/death and an academic conspiracy trying to stop them. It is VERY dense. VERY confusing. You have to work out the timeline yourself because each character has annotated the book from start to finish over multiple passes; you'll be flipping back and forth like a choose-your-own-adventure. And the icing on the cake is that there are dozens of inserts stuffed throughout the pages; newspaper clippings, posts cards, a napkin from a fictional university restaurant, old telegrams, folded notes written on loose leaf college-ruled paper, a cipher wheel, etc. It is mass market like Journal 3, but with a much closer attention to detail like Adam Savage's Grail Journals. The inserts are impressive as part of the meta-narrative, but they don't hold up to as much scrutiny. Owning the book is more interesting than the book itself.
My idea
I want to create a boxset for Dracula in which the story is separated out into its constituent parts; Jonathan Harker's illegible shorthand journal, piles and piles of letters between Mina and Lucy and Van Helsing and the suitors (each with their own recognizable handwriting), real playable wax cyllinders with Dr. Sewards voice recordings, the water-damaged journal from the captain of the Demeter, newspaper clippings about the horrible storm and the large dog and "bloofer lady" sightings, and then a big stack of typewriter carbon paper where Mina painstakingly collated it all into the manuscript for the novel itself. The novel claims to be stitched together from a hundred different sources, and this boxset would actually BE the original sources! There would be old 1890s kodak photography, Jonathan's train tickets from across the continent, maps showing the exact paths of the Demeter and Dracula's dirt shipments and the suitors' chase along the rivers back to Transylvania. Lucy and her mother's wills, stationary with Lord Godalming's letterhead, an old rosary, a crucifix, some garlic flowers, lots and lots of communion wafers, Dracula's book of train schedules, and MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL the paprika hendl recipe!
Dracula Daily allows us to experience the story chronologically, but I would like to experience it the way the characters themselves would have, piecing together all the disparate clues over the course of 6 months. It would be an enormous and unweidly boxset, like the special edition of a video game.
The framing narrative would be that the box itself used to belong to Bram Stoker. He was a close friend to the Harkers, and they gave him all their first-hand documents so he could eventually publish their story.
I don't even know where I'd start!

Hey!! I drew something for once!! I got a little weird with this one - I had to cut out the drawing as carefully as possible and pasted it to layered paper and flower stickers. Not quite sure if the final product is good or not, but I had fun and that's what's important!

I told myself I wouldn't make something for 413, but.....Davepeta.
Zoomins + Ramble below cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, some of you may be wondering why June is there. Well, 1) it's her birthday, and 2) I personally headcannon that when Davepeta eventually met June, they ended up bonding.
Eventually, Davepeta helped June figure out she was a girl, and a few days before the (dubiously canon) Rosemary wedding, June ended up coming out as trans to the rest of their friend group!
I don't have a great timeline after that, but i imagine it causes quite a few revelations, which i've considered writing about if i ever feel like it.

The other day, after countless hours of weaving and sewing with painfully-countable hours of sleep, I finished my most recent project: a set of multimedia shadow-boxes to commemorate some of the lessons I've learned this past academic year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The butterfly is meant to symbolize how small actions can make a big impact, combined with a touch of messaging about the importance of Conservation.
The paper plane is meant to symbolize the necessity of play when it comes to learning and innovation, and how small, seemingly trivial tokens can spark incredible, meaningful inspiration.
It's difficult to see here, admittedly, but each has a backdrop of laser-engraved fabric, the butterfly with a milkweed stem and information, and the paper airplane with blueprints of a real plane. The quotes in front were laser engraved as well, onto acrylic this time, and the divots from engraving were filled in with silver acrylic paint to make the words more visible.
I'd love to make more like this someday. But for now, I'm so happy with how these worked out :)

Would you want to see Dark Side Yoda? Check out the full panel video from "A Clone Wars Novel" with Sean Stewart and Matthew Stover next week!
Transcript: "And Yoda takes a step towards the Dark and basically says 'How much do you want this to happen?' and Dooku goes 'Ohhhhhhhhhh... Dark Yoda would be annihilating. Let's totally not, I was sort of joking... let's let's... would you like that?' Because there's a moment, and it's, it's one of those things, it's very important to me in the book; (if you haven't read it, think about it) is the moment at which everybody gets a good long look at what Dark Yoda would be like and decides that maybe they don't want to see that."

What are your thoughts on K as some kind of multimedia series thing? I've been seeing other series that do that with them having anime, games, books, etc. that are all supposed to be this one big project that you'd need to know entirely to see the whole story. Unlike K though which got popular when the anime released, I barely hear anything much about other series that sorta did the same as it did.
I think K’s a bit different from a lot of other multimedia project style anime, in that it seems like nowadays ‘multimedia project’ is just code for ‘there’s a gacha game’ XD Seriously though I do feel like a lot of series do that now, an anime comes out but it’s just secondary to the mobile game and the real focus of the project is please please spend your money to buy pngs of our large cast who will each be allowed to have one (1) defining personality trait each. Sometimes the show might get some drama CDs or there will be an idol element so they can sell CDs and concerts but it definitely feels like you don’t see light novels as much (unless it’s for an already popular series to capitalize on something pre-existing) or even really manga that are specifically intended to fit into the series timeline and aren’t just random ‘day in the life’ or ‘retelling of the gacha game’s story’ ones.
I think K is also interesting as a multimedia project in that the anime seems to be the ‘primary,’ more or less, or at least the thing that it’s expected people can generally watch with minimal knowledge of the other materials and still enjoy. Like I think it’s expected that viewers will at the very least watch season one of K first and that will get them interested enough to seek out the side materials, the side materials supplement the anime storyline but never supersede it. Compare that to something like, for example, Hypnosis Mic, where the main storyline is more in the songs and drama CDs and the anime was intended to promote those, but the HypMic anime itself can easily be skipped (season one at least, I never watched further than that) without affecting the main storyline of the actual series. Or something like the recent Delico’s Nursery anime, which gives a taste of the story but doesn’t really stand alone well without any knowledge of the stage plays it’s part of. By contrast while you could theoretically skip the K anime and just read the side materials you would be missing the main thrust of the storyline, the side materials build up the world around the anime but ultimately they remain in service to the anime rather than the other way around.
I actually personally prefer this way too, while I do wish the side materials would get referenced more in the series proper I’ve found K far easier to follow than pretty much any other multimedia project I’ve tried to get into because the anime had actual stakes and important story happening and I didn’t feel like I would be totally lost if I missed, say, posts from the one person posting translations of a drama CD on Twitter or something like that. I also like that while K did have a mobile game at least it was brief and had fun moments with the existing cast, rather than falling into the trap of needing to constantly add more characters and everyone’s personalities getting flatter the more the cast ballooned. I think it both helps and hurts a little that K was created by light novel writers, on the one hand I think the anime is a bit uneven because Gora as a whole aren’t used to working within the confines of an anime but on the other the novels and short stories really give these characters a chance to shine that I don’t think they would have gotten if the anime was just there to promote a mobile game or a concert.

thinking about and feeling deep gratitude for the fic authors who created works they will likely never know the full impact of. The fics that live in my mind for years on and that my brain still attaches so many associations to; that I still periodically and vividly recall specific moments from despite being years out from the fandoms of origin. Fics that have grown lives of their own within me and have practically become benchmarks in the timeline of my life. Fics I’ve returned to for comfort and escapism after destabilizing life events. Fics I’ve learned new things about the world from! Fics I can still quote passages from.
Fic authors— your story may be that fic for someone (or many someones!) out there who may not even know how to reach you anymore but who live with an imprint of your world and your characters and your love story on their psyche forever. Your headcanons may have become baked into their actual canon! Your work is a part of the fabric of their being!
Thank you fic authors with jobs thank you fic authors with kids thank you fic authors managing courseloads thank you fic authors who meticulously outline their stories for months on end thank you fic authors who do extensive research so they can worldbuild effectively thank you fic authors who love their characters so much they just have to do right by them thank you generous wonderful fic authors who do all of this for fun and for free and who leave their works up and accessible even if they themselves may have moved on thank you fic authors <3 <3 <3
