oh god i was trying to do this list in my head the other day but gave up, let's give it another go lmao

2019 they didn't really do anything on account of the whole about-to-come-out thing, but phil rickrolled us with a pigeonfest fake-out and dan kind of just teased his coming out video because that's all he did in early 2019 apparently (<- fond)

2022 they may have actually just ignored us completely but that makes sense since it was like a month before why i quit youtube and the wad announcement so dan was in his peak dan-and-phil-i-don't-know-her era (<- bitter)

before they started danandphilcrafts april fools pranks wasn't really a thing of theirs, they would be funny about it but they didn't have these elaborate plans yet. i wasn't here for april 1st 2012 and prior so i don't know if they did anything then (dan's pombear massacre was posted on april 1 2011, but i don't think he intended for that to be an april fools prank he's just weird), but in my mind april fools as a dan and phil concept started in 2013 when us phannies decided to all change our twitter layouts and display names to dan's and then phil joined in. there's a tumblr post somewhere with a whole bunch of notes chronicling the whole thing but i cannot for the life of me locate it so here's some really shit screenshots instead

also some people then started changing their profile into phil to balance it out, then other people, and this one made me lol

one of the last times they had a somewhat civil interaction before that infamous back and forth a couple months later 💀

anyway, then in 2014 dnp continued the twitter identity theft joke but this time they were both troy bolton, for some reason

and the year after that we got the first danandphilcrafts, of course. basically i think we can credit crafts and all their other april fools bullshit to phannies trolling dan twelve years ago, which in turn we can credit at least partly to the mishapocalypse that happened on the same day, because if memory serves someone saw that whole thing being planned on tumblr and was like lets do that on twitter as well but with a picture of dan, which then devolved into lets all just pretend to BE dan for the day

An asymmetric comedy game of drama and drow. Players either take the role of a brutal mistress whom everything she says goes, whether she understands what she’s talking about or not, and whose position of dominance is maintained by the respect of her peers, respect that hinges on how brutal and controlling she is to her subordinates; or an array of pathetic servants who are helpless without their mistress’s “leadership,” (and maybe even be more so with it).

Edge Hedge Arena

This goofy omage to the Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase of the 2000s and 2010s is more of a party game than a conventional TTRPG, but that’s just means it’s fast to play and play again. The game will pair you with a real Sonic OC, so you can stat them out and battle them against others in the ultimate blood sport.

We don’t just promote our own games, we promote the games of others, and healthy play habits as well through the A.N.I.M. TTRPG Book Club!

This is a welcoming and diverse space for fans of TTRPGs to discuss and play them. Plenty of different games will be running at any given time, but the main “book club” aspect of it is that people nominate RPGs they’d like to play, then the nominations are voted on regularly. Whatever wins, we all read and play. People are sorted into play groups based on schedule compatibility, so it’s very flexible.

Players are strongly encouraged to buy the RPG themselves to support the authors, but if you cannot for any reason, a PDF will always be provided for you. We have raised hundreds of dollars for indie and small press RPGs this way, and the community just keeps growing! If you’re a TTRPG designer, feel free to come in and nominate your own game!

April Fools :P The fic’s still available if you’re interested in that sorta thing

LEAKED CANCELLED OWL HOUSE SCRIPTS?????!?!!?

Again?! AGAIN!!!!

We just got scripts for four cut episodes from S2B leaked you guys! Apparently they were originally part of S2’s plan, but with the shortening the crew realized they had like, zero budget for S3 and as a result they had to divert budget from S2B to S3; Considering it’s four 22-minute scripts, this sacrifice, while tragic, is also the reason why S3 was more than one special.

So it sucks especially given what we got in these canned episodes, because they resolve a couple of plot threads mentioned by the crew and whatnot, but we also get stuff like the Collector and Boscha development and whatnot so like. I get it and ultimately agree because by the end of the day, the ending of a story needs its due depth.

That being said! I’m REALLY mourning what we lost here but also let’s just treat it as canon. And so while it’s not exactly a book or comic or actual episodes, nor even storyboards… Man does it work! I’ll make analysis posts for each of these in a bit, and I don’t wanna spoil, but for those wondering: These seem to be set in between O Titan, Where Art Thou and Clouds on the Horizon, and the titles even fit into the S2 message????

Not really a spoiler but with the canned scripts, it was originally going to spell out SEEK THE KEY FEAR THE LOST LOCK. Honestly, it seems a convenient coincidence that the writers could cut out those four titles and the message would still work, but maybe this is why those four episodes were chosen out of the rest! As for the hidden codes, they’re not spoilers for the scripts themselves: SEETHING SEAS AND PUPPET STRINGS, HE NO LONGER DREAMS OF KING. AS ABOVE RUSH DARKENED SKIES, AS BELOW HIS GUILTY AND ALL SEEING FATHER LIES.

Those four codes really add to the poem because it seems the writers intended to foreshadow back in S2 that the Titan was watching from the in-between, and also that the situation with the Collector being imprisoned hadn’t been just, setting them up as misunderstood? Man. Makes me wonder how our speculation back when the show aired would’ve changed in the buildup to S3…!

Yes, they're allowed as long as you can credit the original creators and the mod is/was publicly playable in some capacity, not just existing as a youtube video. It's okay to have the vocals as well if you'd like! I think I misunderstood the rhythm heaven case (I thought it would be the menu music that plays after you complete the song/level, not the sfx that plays DURING the song) and will clarify that accordingly.

What's the verdict on songs from games like Lego Batman? Where the music is at least partially based on (if not entirely the same as) music from films or television?

Totally fine if they're created or remixed for the video game, but I'm going to say no if they weren't originally made for the video game.

I think this is HIGHLY situational and I would probably need to know the exact song this is referring to. Overall, I'm inclined to say no, because it wasn't an original composition for the game (by the team behind the game, that is).

No, because it wasn't composed for the game itself. Appreciate you double checking though! (I'm assuming this is referring to songs that are unchanged when included in the video game and not 'xyz franchise song remixed for xyz franchise video game' sort of thing)

If the song has been officially posted by the devs (and is the full song, not the BGM for a trailer) and you can credit the composer than absolutely!! (assuming the song is going to be in the game, of course). And I'm sorry there were no submissions on Jan 1st... I'm still trying to clear through the ones we have already :')

maybe a silly one: thoughts on crablor?

Crab-Lore

For those who have yet to encounter him, “Crablor” is a portmanteau of “Crab” and “Maglor”, i.e., the crab Maglor became after his many ages of wandering the shores in pain and regret. Crablor is fanon. It was born here.

As @faustandfurious wrote in that very post there is no canon about Maglor’s eventual fate. (You can read about the various ways Maglor ended, or didn’t, here).

But the idea of Elven crabification in general does have some basis in canon!

In his writings on Elven fading in Morgoth’s Ring, Tolkien talks about the fëa (spirit) consuming the hröa (body):

As ages passed the dominance of their fëar ever increased, 'consuming' their bodies (as has been noted). The end of this process is their 'fading', as Men have called it; for the body becomes at last, as it were, a mere memory held by the fëa; and that end has already been achieved in many regions of Middle-earth, so that the Elves are indeed deathless and may not be destroyed or changed. The History of Middle-earth Vol. 10: Morgoth’s Ring, The Later Quenta Silmarillion, ‘Laws B’ (p. 219)

This was not, however, Tolkien’s last thought on the matter. In a marginal note on the entry for hröa published in the linguistic journal Parmasan Eldalamberon (Vol. 12), Tolkien revisits the metaphysical implications of Elven fading:

What of a hröa that resists fading? It is not then consumed by the fëa, but compressed by the process of containing it; by which it will in time be overcome, though at great expense to the strength of the fëa, for this at last takes possession of the changed hröa as its ‘casement’.

What?

This note Tolkien clearly did not intend to be seen or interpreted by anyone but himself, and its meaning is rather opaque. What he seems to be describing, however, is a slow process of shrinking and shapeshifting, from body to “casement”, in cases where a hröa resists fading.

Casement as in… shell? As in… exoskeleton? Elves who resist fading become crabs?

Okay, so that probably wasn’t what Tolkien meant, but I can find nothing to contradict it. Let us assume, for our amusement, that the hröa - casement transformation is, or can be, into a crab.

The next question is: Might Maglor have resisted fading?

If one imagines his fate in the published Silmarillion as self-punitive (a reading supported by the alternate versions in which he does in fact commit suicide like Maedhros), it would makes sense that he might resist fading as a sort of release from his punishment. Or perhaps the metaphysics of the Oath had some interference in his ability to fade in the usual fashion.

In which case, Maglor may very well have been one of the Elves who became a crab. Or something like it.

Embarrassing Anecdotes: The chair has begun materialising during events to announce deeply personal facts about Rassilon's daily life.

Research Interruption: The chair appeared mid-experiment in the Temporal Sciences Wing, colliding with sensitive equipment and accidentally generating a one-second time loop. Some researchers are now perpetually one second behind everyone else.

Pranks involving temporal, psionic, or advanced Gallifreyan technology require a minimum of three approvals:

ANNOUNCEMENT ! The Truth Behind Everything

Hey loves,

I’ve been thinking about how to go about this, and after seeing the way everyone reacted—some of you believing me, some questioning me, and some even being genuinely happy for me—I decided that I should be honest. You all deserve some background because, the truth is, what I initially announced was not an April Fools’ prank.

Everything I said in my announcement was real. I was actually reached out to—anonymously at first—through email after they found my and my friend's Instagram. After several discussions and a creative test, I was given an opportunity [about 4 months of back and forth]. But within 24 hours of announcing it, things happened, and I had to drop out of a major role. That’s when I thought about turning this entire thing into an April Fools’ joke to cover it up and not let it go to waste... :( though I couldve just be like, "hey, I didn't get the job" and move on but I'm choosing to give insights. I even wrote a post revealing it as a prank, but then I saw how many of you still weren’t sure what to believe, how some of you were genuinely happy for me, and how my own friends, despite their confusion, continued to support me. That’s when I realized I couldn’t go through with pretending it was a joke when it wasn’t one in the first place. My own conscience wouldn’t let me.

I won’t go too much into detail here in Tumblr, but just know that I made the best decision for myself. This experience made me realize just how different things are behind the scenes. If I had gone ahead and posted the April Fools’ ‘reveal,’ would you have ever believed that the opportunity actually happened and I was just covering it up? Probably not. And that’s exactly how things work in the idol industry too—if you don’t know the background, you don’t know the background. People can feed you anything.

I’m also adding a screenshot of the initial post I wrote as a ‘prank reveal’ to show you what I originally intended to say. But one thing that remains true in my prank reveal post is, what happened with svthub members lol, guys, I'm sorry for not seeing the pings on time and just poofing. They didn’t force me, some were skeptical but—they were happy, excited, curious, but most importantly, they stayed by my side even while I was silent. And for that, I am grateful.

Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy Public Release May 29th 2025 Update and Financial Status Update

Well, we did it, another rising monthly quota hit, we stay in business.

We ended May with $2,520.72/$2,321.74, (definitely started out in a slump, but the fans really pulled through for us in the second half) and are currently beginning June with $106.57/$2,898.83.

Luckily, Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy just hit #1 on itchio’s Most Popular for TTRPGs, so that should help us out. If you like Eureka and want to help us out more, go give it a 5-star rating on itchio. (It’s one of those stupid algorithms where anything less than 5 stars will tank ratings.) We are currently around #65 on the Top Rated tab and if we got a hundred more 5-star ratings we would be around #35. Two-hundred more and we would be all the way in the top 20!

Oh any in case anyone missed it, all Eureka content on itchio has just been updated. The Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy changelog is under the cut below. The changelogs for Adventure Modules Vol. 1, The Fanservice Files, and The XXX-Files will get their own posts.

Here’s a summary of the changelog. This is a big one. There’s tons of tweaks and major improvements all over the book, we finally fixed the chapter titles, tons of new art, improvements to the mystery writing guide, and we FINALLY made it to the paranormal stuff in copy-editing. A bunch of the beginning quarter of the paranormal chapter has been rewritten to be cleaner, more legible, and to better articulate both the lore and themes and of Eureka. Oh also the cops in Eureka are more racist now.

Removed “How We Play Eureka.” Playing by the rules in the book should already outline the intended experience, and many options given in that section are just RAW now.

Changed “Jumpscares” from an optional rule to a normal rule. It is still used at discretion. 

Tweaked the way jumpscares work. Jumping characters must have their actions declared before the “something” is revealed.

Tweaked and clarified the entire module writing guide

how about an AU where cordelia stayed in sunnydale?

Oh, that's interesting.

I think that, in reality, if Cordelia hadn't left for Angel, she'd probably have ended up occupying a pretty similar place in the rest of Buffy to the role Anya ends up taking. Maybe not exactly the same one (I don't know if the writers would have had her and Xander get back together, for example, and obviously Cordelia isn't a former vengeance demon), but close enough that I'm not even sure that they'd have made Anya a permanenent member of the cast.

But, ignoring that, and taking Anya's ongoing presence in Sunnydale as given...

I think something has to happen to make Cordelia stay in Sunnydale, right? It's clear from Season 3 that she doesn't want to (see, for example, her reaction to finding out that Buffy got into Northwestern: "great! now you can leave and never come back! [I mean] get out of Sunnydale: that's a good thing"). I guess maybe the lazy option is just to have her trying to save up money to get into drama school somewhere? We already see her working at April Fools in Season 3, maybe she can keep doing that. Or maybe -- remembering Cordelia's role as Buffy's shadow -- her parents split up because of her father's tax issues and she ends up feeling she has to stay in town to help look after her mom? Or maybe put those two ideas together: Buffy's surprised to see that Cordelia's still in town, Cordelia tries as nonchalantly as possible to pretend she's still around for her own reasons and then we learn that she's putting her own ambitions on hold because she has to help her mom look for a new place to stay. And maybe that gives us a chance to explore some of the class issue stuff that Buffy as a show always skirts around but never really touches (how does Cordelia feel about now being in a position more like Xander than Buffy or Willow?).

I've complained about this before (more than once), but I think Cordelia being in Sunnydale is a great excuse to change how the gang react to finding out that Harmony is a vampire. I mean, say what you want about the show's approach to vampire lore, but it's pretty jarring how quickly everyone reacts to finding out that their former classmate died helping fight the Mayor and his minions in the same dismissive "haha, Harmony's always been an idiot" way; as if Harmony had 'decided' to become a vampire in a slightly embarrasing post-school life choice. It feels more in character for Buffy, Giles and Xander to argue that Harmony is dead and That Thing Is Not Her while Cordelia (just as in Disharmony over on Angel a season later) says "no, this is definitely Harmony, she's my friend". (Willow can still react in the same way as canon, sure; it's not out of character for her to dislike Harmony.) And I think it would help the maybe-demons-aren't-all-bad approach that the show obviously wants to go for if Harmony and Cordelia actually were friends this season. Like, Harmony herself still absolutely is evil and will hang around trying to feed on people heading home late from work in the dark -- but when she recognizes her intended victim is Cordelia she immediately drops the vamp face and they cheerfully walk back to Cordelia's place chatting about high school and how much they agree Xander sucks.

I think Cordelia would also help to push Giles out of his mid-life crisis a bit earlier than he manages in canon. Partly in the same way she does for Angel in his show. Sure, she can't fix everything going wrong in her own life but she can stop Giles sitting around feeling sorry for himself in his large house [much larger than some people's houses, she'll point out] and maybe push himself into finding an actual job more quickly. I think that would set up some tension with Anya later (when she gets a job at the shop Giles opens, a little ahead of canon) which I think would be nice to see. (I also think it would be fun to see Anya interact with Cordelia more generally, the way they did in The Wish when Anya was first pretending to be human. They are both pretty blunt speakers, after all, who both see themselves as being outside of the core Scooby Group, and it would be fun to see them commenting on things together. Or to imagine Cordelia's puzzled/disgusted reaction whenever Anya starts talking about how great Xander is and how much she enjoys having sex with him.)

Once we get to Season 5, I'd love to see how Dawn and Cordelia interact. As I think I've said before, I think they'd get on really well (and that this would annoy Buffy a lot). Dawn looks up to Cordelia as somebody a lot like her own sister before she became a Slayer (but infinitely superior because she isn't actually her sister), while Cordelia loves having somebody tell her how great she is and tells Dawn how much cooler she is than Buffy (and not entirely just to annoy Buffy). I think Cordelia might even replace Willow in some contexts (in particular, I think it parallels Cordelia instantly agreeing to drive Buffy home in Helpless if Dawn demands to stay at Cordelia's after Joyce's funeral and Cordelia instantly accepts even though we've already established she doesn't want anyone she knows seeing the reduced circumstances she's living in). Cordelia never interacts with Joyce in canon as much as Buffy's other shadow selves do, but she does seem to admire her [in their very limited exchanges]. Actually, maybe at some point in Season 4 Cordelia quits her retail job to go and work for Joyce at the art gallery? I mean, if Season 4 is (in part) about Buffy losing touch with her mother as she moves away from home, what better way to represent that than by having the character who represents Buffy's younger, pre-Slayer self start spending more time with her?

When Riley delivers his stupid ultimatum to Buffy in Into The Woods, Xander would still give his ridiculous speech to Buffy about how great Riley is and how this is all Buffy's fault, but Cordelia (who, it turns out, has views of her own on what to do when your boyfriend cheats on you and expects you to forgive him and take him back and indeed about whether you should take Xander Harris seriously about anything) would interupt and point out just how bizarre what Xander was saying was (and probably be the catalyst for him to realize that what he's saying applies far more to his own relationship with Anya). We cut to Riley waiting by his helicopter ready to go and pacify Central America for Christian missionaries [or whatever] when a female figure emerges from the woods ... Riley looks up, hopeful, but it's not Buffy. It's Cordelia ["what," she says, paraphrasing Gunn; "you were expecting somebody else?"]. Cordelia gets to give Riley a piece of her mind and tell him how great Buffy is [something she'd never tell Buffy, of course] and how badly Riley messed things up, and then she cheerfully waves him off as he leaves Sunnydale forever. [And, okay, yes, Buffy will still be upset about their relationship ending and she will still blame herself later when the topic comes up -- that's just who she is and how she approaches all of her romantic relationships. But at least we don't have to humor Joss Whedon's ego by pretending that she was right to do this and that her relationship with Riley was actually great all along.]

I watched Scott’s Real Life video first because he and Joel are the main two I watch, which is ironic because of their ongoing in-game feud and very different personalities, video styles, general vibes, etc., but I digress.

My first thought when I saw the title was “Yay, another life series!” My second thought, upon seeing Joel standing in the circle, was “Oh my gosh, Joel, three SMPs at the same time? Why does he do this to himself?” Then, after watching for a bit, I was like, “Okay, never mind, this an April Fools video, still fun though.” And then I proceeded to enjoy the silliness and binge everybody else’s videos.

Let me tell you, watching Martyn’s video before Scar’s and hearing Scar yell that he’d fallen out of his wheelchair, I was really worried, and I immediately searched for Scar’s video to make sure he was okay. I’m glad he’s alright, I bet that was scary.

On another note, do y’all consider Cleo’s win cannon? Cause I do! Go Cleo, she deserved this.

I’m kinda sad it wasn’t Joel or Jimmy though, I got really excited when I realized how well Jimmy was doing. He got, what, 7th place? The canary curse has officially been broken!
