Ngl, some people's "I wasn't allowed to be an irredeemably evil shitbird, ergo Veilguard is not an RPG" argument is extra funny to me, because I don't actually think there is a conceivable narrative in which, if your Rook did something as objectively amoral as selling people into slavery, they wouldn't wake up the next morning floating untethered in the raw Fade with Neve's bootprint on their ass, and the Lighthouse no more than a distant blip on the edge of their vision.
Like there is a lot to get into here that I just don't have the time or the spoons to go through, but I'd argue that one of the biggest strengths of Veilguard's writing is that the main cast are all very well-defined characters with their own sets of morals, ethics, and goals, and they collectively have more than enough of a backbone that if Rook did something that proved them incapable of leading the team to the story's climax and/or proved them to be of no benefit to them, they wouldn't fail their quest: they would just swiftly and efficiently get rid of Rook.

i can't tell yet if Look Outside is going to blow up in an irritating way like Mouthwashing did, but if you're planning to play/watch it, but you get overexposure aggression like I do, I would probably give it a shot now rather than wait. it has a lot of elements that could potentially turn it into a really obnoxious fandom which is going to spoil/taint the text for you, and I don't have a good sense yet of which way the wind is blowing.
i don't know why I like it so much. normally you would have to make me watch a jrpg/rpgmaker with a gun to my head. I'm still sorting through my thoughts on it. the art style reminds me so much of Larry Gonick's work, just genuinely classic cartooning in the academic sense

Based on the notes of my other post it is so cool just how branding lifesteal is as a server. It’s something to be afraid of because how it changes you
What other servers had someone find an exploit so so powerful that he could become effectively become a god
What other servers have members so, so powerful that one player potentially has 100+ hearts stored up because he’s that strong.
I’ve always wondered what lifesteal is narratively. And seeing perspectives/reactions of other chatters and cubitos in the realm smp to it makes me wonder so much more.
There must be a mark of lifesteal, something to make it known what they are. If not how their brains are rewired from the bottom up

just remembered the one time eddie started really unloading on his father, after years of repressing, his father had a heart attack in front of him. just like when he finally started unloading his stuff about shannon and chris walked in. he is SUCH a guy who is punished by the narrative

“Why are you fine with tridentaricest but draw the line at campal?” Because, while I respect Camilla Hect too much to make her a cousin-fucker, I cannot say the same for the Tridentarii, those two are complete freaks and twincest is absolutely in-character for them

Oranges - Clyde Lawrence // pazoo-underscore // Ao3 tag - social_mockingbird // Orange Juice - Noah Kanan // onlinehorseproblems // Oppenheimer dir. Christopher Nolan // amateurdigitaldesign // The Orange - Wendy Cope
Edit: So I finally got permission to add in the beautiful artwork of Big Bird and Snuffleupagus sharing oranges. It was in my original draft for it, but I got impatient and posted it minus Sesame Street. However, much thanks to @onlinehorseproblems for the art and the words!! I think it works as a nice segue into friendship, don't you?

I say this as someone who obviously opposes the Vietnam war, the war in Afghanistan, and the current war in I/p, but I think a lot of Americans including one I was just talking to haven’t got a lot of comprehension that it sure took the uS a lot longer than five months for public opinion to shift strongly away from supporting any of the above, but furthermore - we dont fucking KNOW what the us gov or us public would do or support if they had a hostage crisis with hundreds of us civilians being held by the viet cong or taliban or Sinaloa cartel for months on end, with significant evidence of that group committing sexual assault, within kilometers of where Americans lived. This is not an equivalent thing thing that has ever happened to the us and for the sake of world peace we can be glad it never has, but it’s truly beyond our comprehension what the US (or uk or Canada and such) might do

Okay but because that poll by Shazz made me think about it- I find it so fascinating how the whims of gameplay can impact storytelling.
To explain what I mean- if I was just writing a story with the plot of Light Fingers, if it was something I had imagined myself with no branching options and a singular ending, the story should end with Emery NOT ending up with Poor Edward. His character arc as the protagonist should be about letting go of the guilt he feels over a situation that Poor Edward's evil put himself in, to accept that no matter how tragic Edward's past may be he does not have to keep granting him his kindness and mercy. Their story should end with Emery either leaving him trapped in the orphanage or giving Clara the choice to take her revenge. This is my usual approach as a writer.
However. As a player, I have a taste for characters in obsessive love, and more importantly, I want the gameplay you only get access to if you married Poor Edward. But I'm also not comfortable with more of the villainous options that would have that marriage work out and make sense.
As such, Emery functionally gets the worst ending possible. She ends up marrying her stalker and tormentor, letting go of happier possibilities with men she actually loved. They end up so intrinsically tied together that escape seems impossible. Hell, Emery even starts to think that maybe he returns Edward's affection. It is an ending so bleak that I would not dare show it to the public. In fact sometimes I feel a bit embarrassed about relaying just how bad things get for Emery. But Fallen London is a game that presents this as a totally viable option, and it was an option that appeals to me, the player.
So anyway Emery and myself respectively in this situation.

Maybe it's because Ulder is a generally overlooked character, but i think it's crazy that more people are willing to look past/ignore/excuse G*rtash's (🤢🤢🤢🤢) actions (or like him despite those actions), than there are people who are willing to look past Ulder's shitty parenting decision.
like I'm pretty sure Wyll even says that he understands why his father did what he did.

Girl if Louis had to sit through the same opera ran by vampires like Santiago, dozens of times, he'd bring a book, too. Also, Claudia was in the play. Was Louis ONLY interested in what Lestat likes and not Armand OR Claudia or his own interests?
also didn't louis judge lestat heavily for pretending to read books to pass as cultured? didnt he ignore him at HOME as he read his books?
