#Number Lore 77

I've just had a dream that was so steeped in Magic: The Gathering lore that I need to post it to tumblr on the off-chance that people who know enough to understand it will be able to read it, because if I tell it to the people I usually tell my dreams to they won't understand a dang thing. Sorry @one-time-i-dreamt

So. The dream was in Ravnica, and was about this planeswalker lady. She was white, with long straight blonde hair, and a fancy blue dress. I have the feeling that I was dreaming I was her before my dream remembered I'm a boring cis man without any amazing powers so as far as I can recall I'm just following her, like the main character of a story. I'm not sure I should call her my OC since she was created without any prompting of my conscious mind but none of the characters in the dream have names so I'll call her that.

OC was walking down a boulevard in Ravnica with this dude. They were pretending to be a couple, but the dude was actually a Dimir spy she had bested and was kind of her prisoner. Dimir guy wasn't very happy about it but wasn't too angry either, he saw his "custodianship" as a work thing and kind of respected OC, so they were chill.

OC saw a woman who she realized wasn't from this plane, although she was pretending to be a local. She challenged Dimir guy to point out what made them realize this. Now I expected this to go like a Sherlock sequence, with each one pointing out a detail in the woman's outfit or some very precise behaviour. Instead, OC starts by pointing out that this woman is wearing

A FRIGGING BRIGHT BLUE SOCCER JERSEY

and not only are soccer jerseys not usual clothes in Ravnica, (at least not until Hooligans at Rakdos Stadium is released), but it also has a giant number on it (77 if you're curious), except that Ravnica uses a different writing system, so any planeswalker would immediately clock her as an outsider. (I think that it's only sort of implied that each plane uses a different writing system, but in the dream that was settled truth.)

OC is so apalled at how poorly this woman - who needs a name, so I'll call her BadKellan for reasons that will soon become apparent - is at hiding herself, she decides to have a word with her. BadKellan realizes she's being followed and hoofs it - but OC and Dimir guy immediately use their Dimir crap to become invisible. BadKellan thinks he's shaken them off, but she's quite rattled, so she goes to her safehouse, which happens to be just around the corner. OC and Dimir sneak in behind her, then make themselves visible.

Now I should tell you that Dimir Guy does nothing else in this story. I was going to say that he's just Ken, he's just there, but it's actually worse - his presence makes the story make no sense, since OC is about to reveal some secrets to some random lady. But the dream didn't forget him: I vividly recall that he was still around all throughout this part of the dream, even though he does nothing else.

So. OC reveals herself and tells BadKellan that what she's doing is very dangerous. She tells her about the Dimir (the guild, not the random guy) and says that if they see her poorly sneaking around and think she's going to be trouble, or even can't figure out what her deal is, they're just going to kill her. Which means it's incredibly dangerous for her to go around like that.

BadKellan reveals a few things about herself. She's from Earth - yes, our real world. She's not a planeswalker. She was brought to Ravnica against her will and told to blend in and pretend to be a local. She doesn't feel comfortable revealing who told her to do that.

OC decides to give BadKellan a few pointers on how to lay low on Ravnica. She explains that she would dress mostly in gray, since colours are strongly associated with the guilds and she should stay away from them to stop making waves. She asks her to change her outift and she'll say if it draws attention.

BadKellan changes clothes. She's now dressed entirely in gray, which is good, except that her shirt

IT'S THE EXACT SAME THING AS BEFORE. IT'S A LARGE PRINT USING OFF-PLANE SCRIPT. It's not as large as the jersey number, sure, but I'd like to remind you that it's glittering!

OC is apparently as taken aback by this as I am, because she turns her into a squirrel.

In fact, she specifically turns her into the squirrel from Bloomburrow key art.

OC's logic is that BadKellan is so bad at blending in that this is the only way she can be safe. OC intends to release "squirrel girl" in a park while she tries to look into exactly whose plans she just ruined and how bad of an idea it was.

There was more to this dream, but my memories are fuzzy and it's (even more) uninteresting. I think it involves the Boros having a special currency that they gain when they help people but the Dimir also use it in a kind of ironic way? I don't remember.

Lucky Fox: I guess people are just mad horny for the threesome dynamic in this, or the fact that it's two blonde men with the same haircut?

Correspondence Interruptus: I wrote this quite soon after Dragon Age The Veilguard came out, so just got on top of that old man's tags early enough!

The Inkskin Pact: As I like to tell people, I have no memory of writing this, Stephen King style (but with hormones rather than marching powder).

What fandoms do you write for?

Baldur's Gate 3 mostly, with a tiny bit of Dragon Age because I like the old men on the menu rather than the lore.

I'm not big on writing angst, but we could say the main characters in The Change are currently looking a bit precarious.

All my fics end with happy endings. I just like writing about people who are fucked out and in love. Nothing wrong with being a romantic whore.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have three fics I've co-written with various freaks from my beloved Discord server. They are more awful than horny but also super horny. They all feature my favourite old man, Rugan.

What's your all-time favourite ship?

I tend to go for a pairing of an original character and an existing character, so not too much shipping for me! I guess we could go back in time a bit to when I was completely rabid over Arthur x Eames from Inception.

What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't have a lot of WIPs - but there was a longfic I plotted out but will be pretty unlikely to start, let alone finish. It was a BG3 AU set in the TTRPG world of Heart and was going to be Rugan x Tav x Gale except Rugan is haunted by his own ghost and Gale is in love with the Moon Beneath.

What are your writing strengths?

Probably the pornography? I sure like to have a variety of situations, although I admit I could probably reduce the pace of my sex scenes.

What are your writing weaknesses?

As mentioned, I do have a tendency to rush through writing, so something I'm aiming to do this year is take my time and, during editing, go through and try to increase the word count by about 15-20%.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

This seems like an odd question! What would be wrong with doing this?

I do prefer it if authors I'm reading give a translation, even if it's a very simple, short phrase in a widely-spoken language.

Favorite fic you've ever written?

I am rather fond of chapter 2 of Lucky Fox, I think because it hits a few tropes that I think are really sexy. But the writing isn't so good, and I do cringe at the clumsiness of chapter 1.

Why is the Prester... Doing That: rampant speculation corner

Heavy spoilers for many aspects of Deep Fallen London lore, especially relating to Evolution!

This is a subject with no answer and little you can point at as a hint— much of what we know of the Elder Continent is canonically twisted by storytellers and liars (a more advanced class of storyteller). Much of it hasn't been touched on in canon in a long time, or ever. The workings of the College of Mortality, the little we know of Stone, is especially obscure and uncertain.

But like. Something weird is going on there, right? What? Why?

Lead up

I am referring to the Prester's hunger for flying creatures, as seen on the Delight. To touch base on a few bits of canon I'm basing the rest of this on:

The Prester is a series of men (they may not be "men" personally for all we know, but the Prester is referred to in the masculine. When a Prester retires, a new one takes over— the old, "dead" but never dying, joins the College of Mortality, which seems to advise the current Prester and/or form laws.

The Prester is the leader of the Presbyterate, 77 kingdoms of the Elder Continent, united but very different. Tigers are not part of the Presbyterate but used to be. There are suggestions in Jericho Library that the Prester has not always existed in the EC, or that the number was different.

The Presbyterate in a meta sense is based on the legend of Prester John— while FL harkens to this explicitly, I don't think it's a 1:1 relation... but i point it out because fun fact! And maybe still somewhere relevant— a Good Christian King who colonised and united pagan lands into a perfect resplendent kingdom, always said to be real, just undiscovered.

The Prester lives in Nidah, a city which lays on the Mountain of Light— who is the god Stone. Stone is the child of the Bazaar and the Sun, granter of near unconditional immortality to most of the Neath. She dreams of flying in Parabola, and is 'jealous' to see the Avid Horizon open. Within Stone lies the Garden.

We know a number of laws from the Prester, which may or may not be on behalf of Stone. She is worshipped throughout the EC, and may speak through the Prester, but Stone has pretty much never directly communicated anything in FL. none of these statements claim to be from Stone— yet she is the giant shining mountain god looming over all of this. She surely ought to be sacred to the Prester too, right?

The first one here references the crime the ToF committed against Stone, which notably reads slightly different from the second— "us" vs "I". After the ToF violated her, the Garden was closed off to everyone but flying creatures. The second states that, yet ends with a call for these flying creatures to be eaten. The ones who carry the airs of the Garden. The sacred Garden, closed after a violation of trust, which lies within a god who dreams of flying. (I cannot recall if "flying creatures are sacred to stone" has any further canon source)

Something is wrong. In Evolution, we see the Prester has a ludicrous hunger for all creatures which fly, whether or not they have ever been to the Garden. What the hell is he doing?

THEORIES

The Prester just sucks

This is the most straightforward answer: the Prester abuses his power and does whatever he wants. He twists Stone's laws to suit him, and that's that. Perhaps like Prester John, the Presbyterate is an outside force which has colonised Stone's body and will. Stone has directly intervened before— when the ToF hurt her, when the Queen of Skite freed the ToF, when Parabola opened and she elevated tigers — but hasn't apparently done anything for a long, long time. After she was wounded, maybe she shrunk away, no longer acting despite what horrors the Presbyterate does in her name.

Power corrupts. It can be that simple. Perhaps the first Prester was not malicious, but eventually, with immortality and endless wealth and boredom, power corrupts.

The Prester has good intentions

The Jericho Library stuff contains a number of mysterious hints about the Prester, but I can't put them into any broader understanding yet.

These sound oddly reluctant, struggling, quite against the general image of the Prester as a guy who has mollusc tongue torture devices and eats holy birds. What does it mean? I don't know. Please tell me. But I do think the following could relate to this concept:

The idea of healing Stone from the wound the ToF caused is only seen once, here. HEAL HER. BIND THE CONTINENT.

Is that what the Presbyterate is, or was? Making kingdoms to bind the land together into one nation, under the rule of those who rule from atop Stone. Perhaps they insist on always having 77, of always existing, of it being her will... as some sort of solution to her pain. This is a mountain who continously bleeds an poisonous blood river out of her womb after a shapeshifter tricked her, made a hateful murder-child out of her body, used it to open the gates of Parabola, and seems to be trying to get the gates of the Avid Horizon opened— to kill her, and everyone in the Neath. No wonder she hasn't been up to much since that happened.

Stone is causing this (accidentally)

Stone dreams of flight. The Prester lives on top of her. this "on" detail was from Arcana ES, and really struck me— because at her peak, Stone is a prismatic, burning, shining half-divine being. Living that close to her light (which is law, or half-law perhaps) CANNOT be good for you. Who knows when and how the Prester came to create Nidah, but after so many eternal years this close to divinity, Stone may be driving them mad.

Wanting, dreaming, yearning, desiring... these are all analogous in Fallen london to hunger. Stone hungers for flight. She dreams of that wish. Could it be her wanting bleeds through her so strongly it has created an insatiable hunger in the Presters for things which fly?

Stone is causing this (on purpose)

See the above, but consider something else.

If you consume something greater, you may incorporate it. This is the lesson of stars like her father, of the courier who is her other parent. What if you consume many, many, many lesser things? Is there some essence of flight that could be extracted? If she feeds herself, her servants enough of what she desires, perhaps she can become that which she yearns to be.

Now, do you know who Able is?

This is CT-1707 "Able", a comic-verse clone trooper who missed Order 66 entirely, by being stranded on the planetoid "Lubang Minor", for 20 odd years.

Only to be rediscovered by the Rebellion on accident, as Able had mistaken Stormtroopers for clones.

He joined the Rebellion, when Luke Skywalker introduced himself as "Jedi General Skywalker"... yeah, Able was out of it that long; he full on started following Luke.

So if you want ever wanted to speculate on who would've been Luke's Clone Commander / Captain--well, here he is, Able.

( Unfortunately, Able got attacked by rakghouls and became one. He's technically the only other surviving "clone" if we count Kix... but uh, being a perma-werealien probably puts a damper on the reunion).

CT-1707 was under command of Shaak-Ti during the lore Clone Wars...

... But personally, I like to combine him with another clone character...

Meet CT-472 "Able", who was a the battle of Muunilinst (the first campaign of the Clone Wars, but only depicted in 2003 TCWshow).

( The Muunilinst 10 were led by Fordo-77, one of the AlphaGen, and fought alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi)

Because of the similarities in names, I like to combine the two into one full character. THe number discrepency doesn't mean much, because I'm pretty certain that all clone troopers have a much larger number sequence anyway but Identify as the smaller or significant group for ease of identification. ( And Echo has two numbers too )

Meaning he would be Able-472-1707, or maybe Able-1707-472.

If I were to bring Able into the Clone Wars (2007) based on information provided, I'd say that he would've been a 212th Clone Trooper, and one of the few that's been around since the beginning. But he (akin to Gregor) would've been accidentally stranded whilst on-mission under Shaak-Ti.

Damn 212th, stop losing your troopers.

AHHH YAY IM GLAD YA THINK SO :D EverymanHYBRID is a pretty confusing series to get into. theres a LOT going on in it and im more than happy to help you understand better!! ALSO SORRY THIS RESPONSE IS SO LATE </333 ive been kind of out of it lately, but im back now!! i can only go so long without posting about HABIT...

the seven trials of HABIT is a tournament that HABIT hosted a couple years ago. everyone involved in the tournament was assigned a new name under "Rabbit #XXX" and 231 participants were accepted into the trials. this included ryan (rabbit #001) who was the first one eliminated, jeff (rabbit #002), evan (rabbit #003), vinny (rabbit #004), and at the time jeff told alex that he forbidden from joining the trials, but alex ignored jeffs warning and joined anyways under rabbit #231. the other participants were viewers at the time who could join via email, but not everyone who sent in an application was accepted into the tournament.

HABIT eventually created his own Twitter account (SEVENTRIALS) and officially welcomed all the rabbits to the tournament. he then divided them all into 3 groups: angora, english lop, and netherland dwarf, which are all breeds of rabbit. the groups were divided by numbers, 1-77 were angoras, 78-154 were english lops, and 155-231 were netherland dwarfs. each group was set to hold 77 members (its clear the number 7 is important to HABIT for some reason, it appears a lot here)

what is the purpose in all this? what is the purpose of the trials? well you see, we dont know exactly. theres been multiple speculations surrounding the purpose and we dont have a real canon verified answer for it.

one thing i would like to mention is a lot of what takes place in the trials matches up to how cults function. a lot of cults require their members to do things that will strip the members of their former lives in order to make them ready for a new path. im gonna list a few examples ↓

TRIAL ONE: the rabbits had film themselves burying a cherished item of their choice.

"LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONE BEHIND."

they had to part with a beloved possession that was important to them in some way. im not sure what jeff buried, but i know evan buried the prettiest knife he had, vinny buried his special edition of ocarina of time, and alex buried a bullet he shot with his dad.

"I REALIZE YOU MAY HAVE LIVES. THAT IS UNFORTUNATE. AND WILL CHANGE."

TRIAL TWO: when congratulating the rabbits who successfully passed trial one, HABIT says "GREAT, YOUVE BURIED SOMETHING. ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS LOST ONE MORE THING THAT MAKES YOU HUMAN."

TRIAL THREE: the rabbits have to lose a friend "BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY."

"DO NOT TELL THEM WHY YOU ARE DOING THIS. BLAME IT ON THEM."

the rabbits dont even get to go by their own names, which is required in some cults. some cults make their members change their names as a way to sever ties with their past identity.

whenever the rabbits do something, he wants them to state and make it known "HABIT MADE ME DO IT."

HABIT hasnt said anything about this publicly, but HAS addressed it in 2 private chats he had with some of the rabbits. in the first conversation HABIT stated the purpose of the trials was simply "BODY COUNT", but in the other conversation HABIT stated the trials would come to and end when the last rabbit was eliminated, regardless of whether he had reached the seventh trial.

ALRIGHT THATS ALL IM GONNA LIST i definitely left some details out, but i just wanted to go over the gist of it and give a decent amount of info since this post was getting too long. if i listed every single thing that took place within the trials, this post wouldve been SUPER MASSIVE 😭 buuut if youre still curious about anything, feel free to shoot an ask my way :D

1. Yes, they can. They can become self-aware after multiple appearances in manga/anime. For example, right now, Agatha Christie isn't self-aware, despite appearing in official media two times. And Bram became self-aware later, then other characters.

Most of the characters became self-aware after Episode 37 (Last episode of Season 3) and somewhere during Skyfall chapters. (74-77)

2. Yes. They want to "rebuild" the Port Mafia. But more in a way of shady protectors.

3. If GL won't live on, BSD Cast will choose to grew old and gray. At the end only Lovecraft, Bram and Fyodor will remain.

4. Yes, they can explore. Right now, they can visit all Yokohama locations (including airport), Meursault, Sky Casino, Bram's Castle (if it wasn't destroyed). In a future, after Agata became self-aware, GL can visit her office.

- I like cats.

- I like cinnamon.

- I have known about BSD for a few years, but wasn't interested in getting into the manga or anime. And then I saw screenshots with Fyodor Dostoevsky (one of my most favorite authors in real life).

- My dumbest reason for pulling the character in Genshin - Neuvillette was voiced by Ray Chase. I didn't care, how strong Neuvillette is. Moreover, I wasn't looking at posts or guides that were created during his first banner. I didn't even do his trial run or watched his demo.

- I like doing Color by Number paintings.

I basically never promote my stuff on tumblr; this is my poorly tagged shitpost repository and putting games I make on here does technically connect my professional life with this wretched blog. my number one favorite episode is MAG 81: a guest for mr. spider. i was so thrilled to finally be getting some background information on jon and how he came to first encounter the fears and how it impacted him. it makes relistening to the first season make so much sense like yes! he’s being such a prick but he’s projecting like crazy! this shit has literally haunted him his whole life and he probably hasn’t even properly acknowledged that! omg! okay anyway the episode. love that it’s very jon-centric but i also personally think it’s the most disturbing and unsettling episode. something about it always manages to make my head feel weird and my skin tingle, no matter how many times i’ve heard it. the picture that he paints is just so vivid, i have a very very clear image in my head of that episode and just gaahdlfk. i love it lol

I'm cooking r1999 OC stuff so i need to ramble about it hehehoho rubs my evil hands together

i had to rewrite this because i lost it but i also sound like a madman so i dont expect absolutely anyone to understand my train of thought <3

I OC-fied Tartaglia a few days ago but I just got around to thinking about his whole character and lore, and it hit me that I can just put his ass in Apeiron <3 I'd like to have an OC in each faction but we'll see how much my attention span lasts

BUT! THIS MF.

I want him to be from Apeiron specifically because the idea of an integer or equally valid number within the island acting like the most fucking feral irrational number is so funny to me. a complete betrayal of the scriptures but that somehow ends up making sense, so you cannot be mad because He Still Operates Within What Was Expected. a guy whose entire existence is just ANNOYING AND IRRITATING AND INSUFFERABLE. perhaps he's a fraction, I'm not sure yet. I'm not looking forward to researching numbers to find one that suits him thematically and shit

most likely considered a genius in an unconventional way, not similar at all to 37. more like still following the theme of opposing/overstepping while working within the guidelines. so maybe something to contrast her

37's talent for numbers is explained as an innate ability to see the numbers in everyone and see their true essence, which causes her to be isolated from the physical world and the people of her own community because she does not experience nor care about reality the same way others do. its impossible to try and understand her, because her insight is so vastly unique, but she can still provide solid proof to support her discoveries with no problem at all, as seen when she confirmed Vertin's number is 0. she cares about the scriptures and numbers, and yet she likes taking the chance to discover one's number away from others just because she can be the first one to do it

so im thinking. Aianteia could be the opposite. he cannot see the numbers in people like her, but their true Forms. the perfect geometrical shapes that can only exist in the abstract world of Forms, impossible to achieve beyond a close approximation. and because he essentially sees the "beauty" in people, he cares for the community, he is friendly and often befriends others rather easily. but he can't fucking explain why he sees the world Like That. nor provide any proof as to why someone is This Form or That Form. which renders him totally useless within Apeiron, because of the importance of proof. he cares about people figuring out their number, to discover themselves and whatnot--he cares so much that he will gladly show you which Form you're meant to be, the way the universe intended it

and THIS is when the themes of battle and war and carnage come into play. when it comes to irrational numbers or the impure, Aianteia connects their "floating points" and knows exactly what to do to purify them. to make their bodies as pure as their Forms. im saying that he basically sees fancy ass geometrical shapes and lines that let him know where to start cutting and slashing and killing. this is something he does out of genuine love and care, so that those who cant even DREAM of studying the scripture can get a fair chance at discovering their number, as irrational as it may be. all they have to do is survive

im thinking. that his scars are self-inflicted because he attempted to do the exact same thing to himself. and he survived. and he figured out his number this way. he cannot explain why or how or give proof as to why he knows THIS is his number (in a way, similar to how 37 knew from birth that THIS was her number) but i like to think that 77 took a good look at him and went "hes right." and everyone had to just. accept that this guy, most likely a very young teenager, found out his number THROUGH THE "WRONG" WAY

WHICH. IN TURN. FALLS WITHIN WHAT 37 INSISTS DURING CHAPTER 05--numbers are the eternal truth because no matter when or where or how you prove something, you and the person at the other side of the planet will come up with the same result. Aianteia has an entirely different approach that led to the same conclusion as 77's mother. once again, the issue is that this is something that cannot be corrected nor given proof. relating to the gnosis of an arcanist, and how arcanum is not a viable method of study because it cannot be verified by a third party. my brain is making connections at the speed of SOUND. anyway. the issue is that he's RIGHT. which would make him a fraction, potentially, since 37 describes them like this

Integers are the living examples of virtues. Fractions can be understood through specific means. Irrational numbers are the free spirits, while imaginary numbers are the existence which doesn’t belong to this dimension of the number axis

so he can be understood through specific means, but no one can figure out WHICH means exactly

I do think that he starts out genuinely wanting to help people achieve their purest self, and somewhere down in the middle of the road he started to have a little too much fun with the idea of being the hand that brings Forms to the world of Matters. and then as he spends more and more time outside of Apeiron, it becomes a dog eat dog mentality, whoever survives gets to be their truest, purest Form -> the strongest get to impose their ideals onto the rest. Aianteia SAYS that he's doing this to uphold the scriptures and defend them in the outside world, and this is partially true as a childish leftover desire from his initial journey. but really, its all about getting the shit beaten out of him and beating the shit out of others now to see who earns the right to live

if the Storm has been going on for 7 years, it started when he was 19, so im thinking he was around 14-15 when he left Apeiron during one of those expeditions. and they let him go specifically because pretty much everyone wanted him gone

from what I remember, both Manus and the Foundation existed BEFORE the Storm? so im willing to say that Aianteia joined Manus before the first Storm ever. but i also dont want to think too hard on time logistics because we dont have the full timeline of the game yet

Cookbook Sample Preview...

I'm perfectly normal about this, totally calm. But I noticed on Sunday that the Dragon Age official cookbook had a preview/sample that it didn't have last time I checked. To summarize, it shows the Table of Contents and 7 new preview recipes along with 2 from an earlier sample release. It's basically previews the whole first section "Starters and Refreshments".

I will be putting things under cuts in case people don't wanna see things. From now on and after its release, the tag I will be using for the cookbook if you want to block is #tastes of thedas or #da: tot

I will also be silently combusting inside as I try not to let the excitement amp me up too much. I expect to fail this mission lol. (Spoiler I did fail and have been making my excitement everyone's problem.)

So, the cookbook sample. Amazon had a scrolling preview that wasn't as nice as the spreads so I made them into spreads like we got with the previous six recipes. You can see them here in this post.

But the following is the full spread of the sample from the cookbook. It gives us the cover, the two title pages, the table of contents, an introduction of a new character/narrator, the table of contents for the Starters and Refreshers section, and the 9 recipes within that section.

Introduction

Dear Mum,

It's me, Devon! I'm all grown up now-- or, well, more grown up than before. You always said I was too much like a child for my own good, and given the number of times you caught me daydreaming about going off on some grand adventure instead of sweeping the floors, I will grudgingly admit that you probably - probably - had a point. But guess what? I finally went on an adventure! A big one! Just like the Hero of Ferelden!

Okay, well, maybe not exactly like the Hero of Ferelden. But I did travel across Thedas! From Ferelden to Orlais, to Rivain, and even Tevinter. Plus, everything in between. It was a long journey, Mum. Weeks and weeks on the road, with the occasional bandit or beast. You'd probably have hated it, but, by Andraste, I loved every second of it! The sights! The sounds! The food.

Oh yes, the food. The reason why I set out on this journey to begin with. I know that I wasn't particularly adept in the kitchen the last time we saw each other. And, yes, I do remember that I nearly set Castle Cousland aflame with my first attempt at a stew. But I am pleased to inform you that I have been practicing extensively, and I think that, if the position still existed, I could take up your mantle as the Cousland family's cook. Granted, I doubt I would be able to fill your shoes completely; no one could manage such an impossible task. But I like to tell myself that I still would be able to make you proud.

And that takes me back to this journey and the all-important question of why. Why did I spend the last year traveling from one end of Thedas to the other, sampling whatever local cuisine I could get my hands on, even dishes that were downright strange? You're probably thinking that it's because the Hero of Ferelden ate it at some point - yes, that's certainly part of it, though I'll have you know that I tracked down foods enjoyed by the Champion of Kirkwall and the Inquisitor as well! Not to mention all their companions. But the truth is, Mum, throughout all of this, you were right there with them at the forefront of my mind. Because when I thought of ways to honor you, I kept coming back to the most important lesson you taught me: Love through food.

Every time I left your kitchen with a warm, full belly, I felt your love for me. And though I can't do the same for you anymore, I can fill this book. I can stuff it full of different recipes, dishes you've probably never even heard of, and think of you with each new entry. Because, you see, Mum, underneath all that childlike excitement, the dreams of adventure and heroism, I'm still very much your child. And I always will be.

Thank you for everything, Mum. I can't wait to share this book and the lessons that inspired it with the rest of the world.

Eggs à la Val Foret

Recipe Blurb: Ah, yes. Tons of cream! Exactly what I've come to expect from Orlesian cuisine. Do I have any tips for creating the perfect poached egg? Well, ever since I heard that Solas's bald head was once likened to an egg, I simply try to make my eggs just as round and shiny! So far, it's worked wonderfully and never ceases to put a smile on my face.

Nevarran Blood Orange Salad

Recipe Blurb: Although I knew that Divine Victoria left behind a life of wealth and privilege to join the Seekers of Truth, it wasn't until I was in Nevarra, seeing exactly what she'd given up, that I truly gained an appreciation for the path she'd chosen. The best way to describe my first glimpse of the gardens of Nevarra is that it was like seeing a painting come to life. For a long moment, I could only stand there, so dazzled by the richness and vibrancy of it all that I was half-convinced I was actually still napping in the carriage. Surely, there was no way such beauty could be found outside of a dream. And yet the beauty before me was very much real.

So, too, was the picturesque tableau that arrived later that day on a plate: perfectly cut slices of blood orange artfully arranged on a lush pillow of bitter greens. Was this a meal or a still life, I wondered. In truth, the answer was both. For Nevarrans, food is as much a feast for the eyes as for the mouth. But even if your arrangement isn't quite worthy of being displayed in a museum, this salad will sing a symphony on your tastebuds.

Fried Young Giant Spiders

Recipe Blurb: Just as people on the surface raise cows and goats, the dwarves underground raise spiders. Yes, to eat. The legs are fried and served with a sauce, which, true to dwarven fashion, is made with some type of alcohol. The precise kind depends on the establishment where you're eating your spider legs. Unfortunately, I couldn't get an exact recipe from any of the chefs I spoke to. These sauces are apparently closely guarded secrets and have spurred many a nefarious plot to acquire them-the competiontion to be crowned Orzammar's Best Sauce is fierce. But I've been assured that lichen ale is generally not used.

I've therefore come up with my own recipe, based on the many varieties I sampled while in Orzammar. Given that sourcing the requisite spider legs above ground is not nearly so easy, and the demand for such exports is minimal, I've subsituted them with crab legs. It's not a perfect match, but it's close enough to satisfy me.

Stuffed Deep Mushrooms

Recipe Blurb: Though the mushrooms growing underground in caves and in many parts of the Deep Roads are all called "deep mushrooms," there is no singular variety. In fact, there are several! Some mushrooms are squat, with broad, flat caps, while others are long and spindly, reaching toward the sky like an old man's gnarled fingers. They also have a multitude of applications, used in the creation of everything from restorative potions to deadly poisons. But in Orzammar, mushrooms are farmed for eating!

I was able to sample some of these dwarven delicacies, prized for their unique flavor and intoxicating scent. After only a few bites, I was struck with inspiration. How delicious would one of these mushrooms be when stuffed with cheese and spinach? The answer is: very. Rest assured that I selected this particular variety of deep mushroom not only for its shape, which is ideal for holding the maximum amount of cheese (and spinach), but also for the fact that it does not carry the darkspawn taint. While certain dwarves will insist that a deep mushroom's proximity to lyrium and darkspawn can only improve its flavor, I am quite content to leave that particular question a mystery, especially where lyrium is concerned. Although I'm hardly and expert on the stuff, I can't help but think about Fenris and how much suffering he endured as a result of his lyrium-infused markings. It seems to me that, barring any natural resistance, lyrium and the body are two things that probably shouldn't mix.

Rivaini Couscous Salad

Recipe Blurb: When I first encountered couscous, I mistakenly believed it to be a grain, like rice or the more familiar Fereldan barley. I was swiftly corrected. In fact, couscous is a sort of pasta, made with semolina flour and water, although it's far smaller than your typical Antivan pasta. Couscous has a very mild flavor on its own--maybe slightly nutty. But where it excels is in its ability to soak up surrounding flavors, making it a perfect base for any salad. I'd love to experiment further, but so far, this particular combination of red bell pepper and mint has proven to be incredibly pleasing.

Crab Cakes from Kirkwall

Recipe Blurb: I love it when recipes add a dash of whimsy into the mix. Food shoulf be fun. I, therefore, took it upon myself to put this into practice with a classic Kirkwall dish. After all, who hasn't looked at their crab cakes and wished they looked a little more like crabs? Okay, maybe I'm the only one who's thought this. But now that I've brought this possibility to your attention, I'm certain you're interested as well! Best of all, these extra-crabby crab cakes stay true to the original recipe's flavors, so nothig is lost--only gained!

Fluffy Mackerel Pudding

Recipe Blurb: Can it really be Feast Day without fluffy mackerel pudding? No! In fact, there's no dish I associate more strongly with the holiday than this unique combination of mackerel, onion, celery, and eggs. Granted, I've heard stories that, several decades ago, someone once attempted a diet consisting entirely of fluffy mackerel pudding. Now, that I certainly wouldn't recommend. It stops being Feast Day Fish if you eat it every day, no?

Snail & Watercress Salad

Recipe Blurb: When the Avvar can't get their hands on a gurgut or a wyvern, they turn their attention to smaller prey. Much smaller prey. Snails are found on many a hillside boulder, making them an abundant source of food for the Avvar. Now, while some would wrinkle their noses or cry out in disgust at the prospect of eating a snail, I am pleased to report that, when prepared correctly, the texture. and flavor are actually good! I could happily eat a plate full of snails dressed in butter and oil, but those still on the fence about a snail's place

Cave Beetles

Recipe Blurb: You think that, after snails, I'd balk at beetles? Never! In fact, I greatly enjoyed this dwarven dish, which involves roasting cave beetles in their shells. However, I recognize that many may not have a palate that's nearly so adventurous. If that's the case, the cave beetles can be replaced with whole prawns while keeping the rest of the recipe the same. That being said, if you do enjoy the variation with prawns, I really recommend giving the cave beetles a try. They're quite similar in both texture and flavor. If you were to blindfold yourself, I doubt you could tell the difference!

「 lore 」 genius society member no.77, izanami is commonly known to all as the scientist who lost her mind. she resides in the seclusion zone of the herta space station, much to herta's dismay yet she does nothing to evict izanami due to her simply not having the heart to evict what remains of her former best friend.

after the destruction of her home world, izanami put to work her intelligence and joined the intelligentsia guild with a specific desire for death and the afterlife that put her peers to shame. during her time with the intelligentsia guild, izanami gained degrees in psychology, forensics, biology, neuroscience and anatomy. driven by a crazed determination to revive her dead family, izanami was later invited to join the genius society.

that's where she met herta, a lower numbered member with genuine intentions to put her research to use for the universe and who later became her best friend. izanami resided on the herta space station where she conducted her research and still resides there.

izanami's research was quick to take an inhumane turn that the other genius society members could see coming. fascinated by death, izanami was not afraid to quickly resort to killing for subjects to experiment on. she'd bring them to life again, indulging in killing them over and over again as she learnt the ins and outs of their every fibre.

although, it should be noted that izanami has a specific criteria for those she kills and is commonly found working with prison systems on numerous planets - she specifically kills criminals, those with terrible crimes and in izanami's eyes, deserve death.

in an attempt to try understand the afterlife, izanami will use her quantum understanding to swap places with her subject in the moment of death temporarily until all the subject's organs have completely shut down, only then does she return to reality. due to this, izanami is said to have gone insane from the death, pain and suffering she's put herself through and seen in these moments for the sake of her research. she further drives herself insane experimenting on murderers, etc. as she sees their crimes in their final moments.

herta defends her regularly against the other genius society members and in a last ditch effort, she even gets screwllum and ruan mei onboard with defending izanami's actions, convinced that her best friend can still be saved.

after her experiments, izanami can be quite void of emotion like a zombie. she's feared by the researchers onboard the space station and when she makes appearances to see herta, people often cower and stare if only for a moment. on days other than her experiments, her lack of sanity shows however she's not hostile at all. despite everything, she's actually quite friendly.

izanami doesn't hold any ill intent to people other than her subjects usually but she particularly doesn't get along well with dr ratio and she's mildly not fond of screwllum, despite him defending her.

「 character description 」 izanami is a short young woman with long black hair that she wears half up and half down, with the ponytail being tied with a red ribbon in a bow. she has red eyes and pale skin. izanami wears a red rose flower choker around her neck and golden dangling earrings. in her right ear, she has her helix pierced with a gold bar.

izanami is commonly seen wearing a black lace asymmetrical hem dress with a red ribbon waist. it has detachable black sleeves that hang off her shoulders and are long in length. her sleeves fade into red midway down. izanami also wears fingerless fishnet gloves that start beneath her sleeves on her upper arm and hook around her middle finger on both hands. she also wears regular black fishnets under her dress. izanami wears red heeled oxford boots.

「 combat 」 basic attack: driven by blood. izanami will strike a target enemy once with her katana, dealing quantum dmg equivalent to 50-110% of her atk.

skill: a scalpel beneath the skin. after using her skill, izanami will immediately heal an ally's health equal to 40-64% of her atk plus 180-860. izanami will gain 1 stack of medical hysteria. when an ally's hp drops below 40% or lower, izanami's skill will take effect on them without using a skill point in exchange for a stack of medical hysteria - this effect is on cooldown and cannot be triggered straight afterwards for 2 turns.

ultimate: i will find an answer. izanami deals quantum dmg equivalent to 120-240% of her atk on all enemies and uses all the stacks of medical hysteria she holds to heal all allies of 10-15% of her hp. if she holds no stacks of medical hysteria, she will gain 1 stack.

talent: glimpse of sanity. if an ally reaches below 30% hp, izanami will bring kintsugi heart into effect across the whole party. when an ally is attacked while kintsugi heart is active, the ally's hp is immediately restored by an amount equal to 12-19.2% of izanami's hp plus 55-260. kintsugi heart lasts 2 turns and will cease effect if izanami is downed.

technique: song of the damned. after the technique is used, izanami will immediately gain 1 stack of medical hysteria upon entering battle.

「 eidolons 」 1: another failed experiment. the maximum stacks of medical hysteria that izanami can hold at a time is increased by 1, up to a maximum of 4 stacks.

2: revival of those gone. if izanami is attacked and her hp falls below 50%, she will attack the enemy with her basic atk. this counts as a follow-up attack.

3: to traverse the human body. skill lv. +2, up to a maximum of lv. 15. basic atk lv. +1, up to a maximum of lv. 10.

4: beneath it all. the amount of turns kintsugi heart lasts is increased by 1, up to a maximum of 3 turns.

5: to understand the human mind. ultimate lv. +2, up to a maximum of lv. 15. talent lv. +2, up to a maximum of lv. 10.

6: she is still there, somewhere. during kintsugi heart, if an ally is downed, they will immediately be revived and have health restored equal to 12-19.2% of izanami's hp plus 55-260. this can only happen once per kintsugi heart.

chat: the genius society. a bunch of imbeciles that play hierarchy based on some assigned numbers. if intelligence was actually what mattered, i'd have ranked herta a lot higher than she is - and myself, of course.

chat: experiments. others frown upon what i do, how childish of them. in my eyes, if they won't do it for the sake of research, someone has to!

izanami's hobbies. seeing the way my scalpel cuts through a cadaver's skin like butter, smooth and delicate as it exposes all of humanity's most sacred treasures, to see the heart of a sick minded individual cease to beat once again...

izanami's annoyances. the stares. all of their pathetic stares while they cower behind each other, as if they can't face me. someone has to research this... someone has to be the one to make a breakthrough regarding the afterlife... and when i do, they will never stare at me like a kicked puppy again.

something to share. the more death i witness, the more determined i am to complete my research. fascinating, isn't it?

knowledge. the human brain doesn't have pain receptors. this means i can poke at these imbeciles' brains all i like... even if they're alive. with crimes like theirs, it's the least i can do.

about herta. the space station is just some elaborate collection my best friend hosts... and yet she couldn't give an ounce of care for it. whilst she jumps between puppets, i'm here as the space station's physical protector.

about dr. ratio. tsk, veritas... for someone who claims to be so intelligent, he had the lack of braincells to try humiliate a doctor merely doing her job. he failed miserably and in turn, i threw a thick book of medical law and ethics at his head - i learnt my aim was quite good that day.

about himeko. the self proclaimed owner of the astral express - ah yes, that train that docks at the space station from time to time. of course i'm aware of it, word spreads fast throughout the space station... apparently she has quite the personality.

about ruan mei. the mad scientist, huh... how kind of her for taking that title for me. why are you looking at me like that?

reader starts working on the courtyard, building it from east to west. she starts talking to joshua on the east end, the pond eridenus is located in the middle and it's where a big chunk of the main events happen, and when they finally meet again it's on the west end ... so idk if this makes sense but it's almost as if the story is progressing like the sun—from east to west!

i don't think this was too hard to catch bc it was mentioned when reader and he talked abt the poem, but joshua giving the reader the hyacinths was him asking for forgiveness and reader taking the hyacinths and giving one to him was not only her way of accepting his apology but also her way of asking for her own forgiveness for leaving him before she even did it bc i think she knew she was going to end up doing it

room 77 is kind of like reader's home in the castle ... people in that room are among the few to treat her normally. like despite mr. park's snappiness, he doesn't treat her differently or worse than the others bc that's just how he is ... anyways the point is room 77 is a great place for her and i chose the number 77 bc in ancient greece the lucky number was 7 and the room was like her place of luck and peace

the dream reader had abt joshua with wings was less of her seeing him as an angel and more of seeing him as icarus. reader mentioned how she thought the story of icarus and phaethon were similar, and she hinted at seeing joshua in the same light as phaethon and that's where i got the idea of having her have a dream about him as icarus, except she doesn't rly understand what the dream means which is why i'm not sure if it's easy to pick up on
