In my previous post, I mentioned that we were going out to eat at the newly opened restaurant in Sun Plaza. This is the Nan Yang Dao (南洋岛) restaurant we patronized, and boy was it packed. We were given just one menu so I gave it to mum to let her choose what she wanted. And she picked the Penang Fried Kway Teow (槟城炒粿条) I wanted to eat so I chose something else. My mum had barely eaten it when one random woman asked if the dish was good. She told her that it was indeed yummy. Stir-fried with bean sprouts, plump prawns, slices of fish cake and Chinese sausage, the kway teow were more savoury than sweet and full of wok hei. The noodles were mildly spicy but nothing we can’t handle.

Originally, this Signature Trio Mini Noodles (招牌迷你烫面) consisting of three different mini sized bowls of noodles were intended for mum but she had chosen hers. From right to left, I started off with the Pork Ball Noodle Soup (吊片猪肉丸面汤). Tasted like our fish ball noodle but with two springy pork balls. The yellow noodles, bean sprouts and shredded cabbage is soaked in the flavourful and wholesome broth.

The next bowl, I tried is the Penang Prawn Noodle Soup (槟城虾面) but the prawn is nowhere to be found! Instead, I get slices of pork, fishcake, bean sprouts and a quarter of an egg. Luckily, the yellow noodles were swimming in umami filled broth cooked with the extracted oil from the prawns’ head and shell.

So, this is where the prawn jumped itself into. The Seafood Curry Mee (海鲜咖喱面) had only one seafood and that is the prawn. The other so-called seafood were mainly prawn rolls or other items made from fish or prawn paste. The spicy curry cooked with coconut milk is rich and flavourful which goes well with the yellow noodles. If you are the type who likes to try many different dishes at once, be sure to order this trio of mini noodles.

To finish the meal, I had the Bear Iced Coffee (小熊冰镇咖啡). Came in a small jug and topped with a cute little ice bear. I love the thick bitter yet not too sweet milk coffee. We were seated next to the glass cabinet filled with lovely and yummy looking Puff Pastry Egg Tarts (酥皮蛋挞). Many customers were seen buying but we had to give them a miss as we were just too full at that moment. But we will order it the next time we are here.

I don’t actually have a very extensive collection of SP and SSRs hahaha, having started late + not being a big spender. But here you go!

I recorded a video so that the beauty of Evolved SPs could be fully captured and also to show both the Before and After for SSRs, but there are screenshots beneath the video too.

I’ll do you one better and give you a list of the top 15 sad songs I listen to! I’m not sure how advanced you are with your Chinese studies, but I think (?) most of the lyrics should be pretty understandable. Feel free to ask me if any part of the lyrics doesn’t make sense haha.

1. 《一生等你》by 袁娅维 (from the drama 《媚者无疆》)

I started watching the drama because of this song. The drama is definitely worth watching if you’re into angsty stuff! The novel, on the other hand, is best left alone.

1. 《爱殇》by 小时姑娘 (from the drama 《东宫》）

I love the lyrics! The tune of the chorus is nice too. Never mind the fact that my heart was ripped out of my chest, trampled on unceremoniously and shredded to bits when watching the drama. I haven’t read the novel yet because my heart needs time to heal.

3. 《初见》by 余昭源 and 叶里 (from the drama 《东宫》）

The ending song of the same drama as above. You’ll be able to appreciate the lyrics much more if you watch the drama! 

4.《三寸天堂》by 严艺丹 (from the drama 《步步惊心》）

The theme song of one of my favourite guzhuang dramas. I still prefer the novel, though.

5. 《等得起》by 叶炫清 (from the drama 《炮灰攻略》)

The song and the drama are nice! Its premise is quite interesting and it’s not too long.

6. 《宽恕》 by 王菲 (from the 2003 production of 《天龙八部》）

The ending song of the only production of 《天龙》that I can bear to watch. 萧峰 + 阿朱 = 💔

7. 《身后》 by 周品 (from the drama 《八分钟的温暖》）

The songs from this drama are all quite nice~ The drama isn’t too bad itself.

8. 《一个人的风景》by 牛奶咖啡 (from the drama 《夏至未至》）

 I like the song, but the drama was just average to me. 

9. 《越长大越孤单》by 牛奶咖啡

10. 《此生惟你》 by 周深 (from the 2019 production of 《倚天屠龙记》）

The tune sounds more angsty than the lyrics actually are. I didn’t watch this particular version of 《倚天》, though. I’m quite picky when it comes to adaptations of my favourite wuxia novels.

11. 《愿》 by 周深 (from the drama《锦衣之下》）

A song befitting my favourite drama of all time. Everything, from the songs to the cast to the plot, is just so on point. Also, Bai Qi’s CN VA Ah Jie provides the voice for the male lead. 

12. 《佛说》by 何鼎铭 (from the drama 《宫锁珠帘》)

I watched the drama and read the novel because of this song too. I’d say that the drama isn’t too bad itself, but it doesn’t rank among my favourites. 

13. 《关怀方式》by 陈汉玮 and 蔡礼莲 (from the movie 《七月俏佳人》）

One of the songs I grew up listening to. I didn’t watch the movie, but my mum claims she shed buckets of tears back when she was watching it.

The lyrics aren’t very poetic, but I like the tune. 

14. 《新不了情》by 万芳 (from the movie 《新不了情》）

Another song I grew up listening to. I also haven’t watched the movie. 

15. 《和你一起》by 郭静 (from the drama 《离人心上》）

From a drama I’m currently hooked on! The lyrics aren’t angsty, but this song keeps playing during the angsty scenes.

人們每個月都會購買視頻、音樂服務會員、電商的會員，同樣，公司以及個人也會定期訂購科技產品，如微軟Office、Phototshop、各類雲服務，以及SaaS商業應用軟件。

老牌遊戲大廠微軟、索尼、EA，連蘋果也都加入了遊戲訂閱的戰場；更別說牙刷、內褲、手錶都紛紛出現以訂閱為主的運營模式。

訂閱模式並不新，卻有可能是未來10年最重要的商業模式之一。萬物皆可訂閱的時代正來臨？

為什麼越來越多的軟件實行訂閱制？

從Adobe系列軟件實行訂閱制開始，憑藉商業模式從“賣版權”到“賣訂閱”的大轉彎，Adobe實現了整體市值翻6倍的成績。今年，微軟也在逐步下架可一次性買斷的Office 2019，想要使用Office的用戶只能加入訂閱制的Office 365。

除了大公司，中小型軟件公司也越來越多采用訂閱制。寫作軟件Bear、Day one，最近的 Knotes 和 PDF Expert 也加入這一行列，為什麼越來越多的軟件實行訂閱制？

有句調侃 —— 這個App比一杯星巴克還便宜，快買！想像一下，要是星巴克的顧客每十年才來買一杯咖啡，星巴克早就倒閉了。

這就是關鍵所在，星巴克是做回頭客的生意。要知道，你在商場購物，如果你不喜歡你買的某件商品，是可以退貨的。而企業為了讓顧客能再次購買，必定會提供卓越的客戶服務，包括優秀的購物體驗和完善的退換貨政策。這形成了良性循環。

軟件公司通常的做法是：程序員花費大量時間研究、開發、完善並提供後續技術支持，最難的一步就是最後的技術支持了。而作為付出後的回報，軟件公司僅僅能從每個客戶那裡拿到一次付費。

對開發者而言，買斷制就是一錘子買賣，無法獲得持續穩定的收入。訂閱制可以帶來更穩定的收入，開發者可以獲得更好的環境，對優秀應用的出現，也會更有激勵作用。

蘋果等平台的政策也在有意無意地鼓勵更多的應用採用訂閱制，比如說App Store的分成比例是三七開。但訂閱服務的收入分成第二年就會發生變化，蘋果分成從30%降到15%，開發者分成從70%提升到85%。

如果你的作品足夠優秀，是值得用戶為後續的更新付費的。

一句話總結，訂閱制下，開發者們錢更多了、收入更穩定了，創作積極性更高了。

但也有一些產品，例如一些小工具，並不適合訂閱制，在轉為訂閱制後也受到了用戶的強烈吐槽，而且多開發者已經不想給你選擇的權利，我們能做的，可能就剩下用腳投票了。

主流廠商紛紛推出訂閱制遊戲

除了軟件，視頻、音樂領域開始以無廣告、可訪問全部內容為基礎服務的會員制，到Netflix、HBO、Apple Music 此類只接受訂閱付費才訪問的流播平台，亦或是在媒體質量參差不齊的後真相時代，紛紛建立起付費牆的媒體機構，訂閱制這股風潮，也刮到了遊戲界。

在遊戲產業，主流的模式之外，訂閱制也正在成為一些大廠試圖撬動現狀的新工具。

在今年E3期間，育碧宣布推出訂閱服務Uplay+，每月付費14.99美元，用戶就可以暢玩超過100款遊戲，包括開發者的最新版本。谷歌即將上線的雲遊戲Stadia平台也將以訂閱制的形式面向玩家，每月收費9.99美元。

蘋果今年的春季發布會一反常態，一連發布三款內容產品：Apple News+、Apple Arcade、Apple TV+。這三款產品均採用訂閱制，其中最引人注目的是 iOS 遊戲訂閱服務 Apple Arcade，它是在移動端遊戲領域首個按月付費，暢玩套餐內游戲的服務。

玩家可以選擇每年花上固定的幾十美元，或是每月支出幾美元，就可以在會員期內隨意下載、訂閱計劃內的所有遊戲，Apple Arcade顯然降低了普通人消費好遊戲的門檻。

以用戶的視角來看，切換到訂閱制付費來玩遊戲，其實也就是從買斷遊戲的使用權，到定期、長期“租賃”遊戲的使用權。好處在於可以用低得多的價格，體驗到原本要花費巨大的多個遊戲。缺點則在於，不能像以往那樣把遊戲納入收藏，而且續費中斷、不在會員期的時候，也就沒法玩這些遊戲了。

在訂閱制下，你所獲得的用戶，意味著很大的可能會成為你的忠實粉絲，不是為某一個產品的忠誠，而是一個品牌的忠誠。

典型的訂閱制付費拓寬了一些遊戲受眾、拉動了一些廠商遊戲收入的增速，但還遠未到佔據主流的地步。這個近一兩年逐漸興起的付費模式，恐怕還是需要很長的周期來證明自己的潛力。

當新零售像颶風一樣席捲全球實體零售店的時候，訂閱式電商在海外儼然成為年輕人新型的時尚潮流。

此類訂閱式服務的特點同傳統的報刊訂閱一致，即：用戶選擇產品大類（如：美妝等），商家為其每月搭配商品並寄送。像家裡訂閱報紙雜誌一樣，消費者一次性付費後，會定期收到訂閱的產品或服務，而不需要多次挑選商品；如果對訂閱服務感到不滿，隨時可以停止訂閱。

談訂閱電商時，Stitch Fix 一定繞不開，創立於2011年，只用了2年時間就實現正現金流，在 2015 年實現盈利，2017年成功 IPO；

團隊通過“造型師+數據”的形式，根據用戶填寫的風格偏好、身材體徵問卷來搭配個性化的盒子，並按照20 美元/個的標準收取費用， 如果有客戶從盒子裡買了某件單品，這筆20美元的費用將從賬單裡扣除；如果客戶什麼都沒有買，最終把5件單品全部寄回則照常收費。

根據公開資料，Stitch Fix 的訂閱服務已經吸引了近 220 萬活躍客戶，淨收入9.77億美元，這些收入主要來自於衣服購買的銷售額“造型費”，也可以理解為服務費。

訂閱模式改變了傳統商業的很多做法，也改變了時尚零售行業，誕生了一大批訂閱制時尚電商平台，除了Stitch Fix，還有Rent The Runway、全球最大寵物電商平台Chewy等等，這些都是訂閱經濟領域的獨角獸。

訂閱電商模式已經席捲海外消費市場。而在國內，訂閱電商才剛剛開始邁開腳步。

無法被忽視的訂閱制

以蘋果、亞馬遜、Netflix來說，前兩者市值輪番突破一萬億美元，都是訂閱模式所帶來的好成績；Netflix更不用說，幾乎已經是訂閱模式的最佳代言人。他們的共通點都是與顧客擁有緊密的連結，擁有相當多忠誠的顧客，並獲得了大量的用戶信息，打造精準的服務與高價值的用戶關係。

從數據來看也許更加客觀，根據Zuora的訂閱經濟指數（計算總銷售額與增長服務）顯示，訂閱制企業平均年成長率為17.5%，標準普爾500與美國零售業則分別是2.2%與3.6 %。

訂閱為主的商業模式，也許不是最新的，卻揉合各種商業模式，從中能看到會員、共享、租賃、SaaS等模式的存在。但更重要的是，不論企業的規模大小，訂閱模式已成為必然考慮的商業模式。

英文论文写作的七大原则

大部分中国留学生在刚开始面对英文论文的时候，都有过不知所措的情况，这归根到底，还是大家英文写作比较少的原因。当大家熟悉英文论文写作之后，那么就不会再出现这种情况了。另外，大家在写作英文论文的时候，还得注意这七大原则。

一、长短句原则

一个短小精辟的句子，可以起到画龙点睛的作用。而且如果我们把短句放在段首或者段末，也可以揭示主题：

As a creature, I eat; as a man, I read. Although one action is to meet the primary need of my body and the other is to satisfy the intellectual need of mind, they are in a way quite similar.

如此可见，长短句结合，抑扬顿挫，岂不爽哉？牢记！

强烈建议：在文章第一段（开头）用一长一短，且先长后短；在文章主体部分，要先用一个短句解释主要意思，然后在阐述几个要点的时候采用先短后长的句群形式，定会让主体部分妙笔生辉！文章结尾一般用一长一短就可以了。?

二、主题句原则

相信各位读过一些破烂文学，故意把主体隐藏在文章之内，结果造成我们稀里糊涂！不知所云！所以奉劝各位一定要写一个主题句，放在文章的开头（保险型）或者结尾，让读者一目了然，必会平安无事！

特别提示：隐藏主体句可是要冒险的！

To begin with, you must work hard at your lessons and be fully prepared before the exam（主题句）.

Without sufficient preparation, you can hardly expect to answer all the questions correctly.

三、一二三原则

领导讲话总是第一部分、第一点、第二点、第三点、第二部分、第一点…如此罗嗦。可毕竟还是条理清楚。考官们看文章也必然要通过这些关键性的“标签”来判定你的文章是否结构清楚，条理自然。破解方法很简单，只要把下面任何一组的词汇加入到你的几个要点前就清楚了。

1.first, second, third, last（不推荐，原因：俗）

2.firstly, secondly, thirdly, finally（不推荐，原因：俗）

3.the first, the second, the third, the last（不推荐，原因：俗）

4.in the first place, in the second place, in the third place, lastly（不推荐，原因：俗）

5.to begin with, then, furthermore, finally（强烈推荐）

6.to start with, next, in addition, finally（强烈推荐）

7.first and foremost, besides, last but not least（强烈推荐）

8.most important of all, moreover, finally

9.on the one hand, on the other hand（适用于两点的情况）

10.for one thing, for another thing（适用于两点的情况）

建议：不仅仅在写作中注意，平时说话的时候也应该条理清楚！

四、短语优先原则

写作时，尤其是在考试时，如果使用短语，有两个好处：

其一、用短语会使文章增加亮点，如果老师们看到你的文章太简单，看不到一个自己不认识的短语，必然会看你低一等。相反，如果发现亮点—精彩的短语，那么你的文章定会得高分了。

其二、关键时刻思维短路，只有凑字数，怎么办？用短语是一个办法！比如：

I cannot bear it.

可以用短语表达：I cannot put up with it.

I want it.

可以用短语表达：I am looking forward to it.

这样字数明显增加，表达也更准确。

五、多实少虚原则

原因很简单，写文章还是应该写一些实际的东西，不要空话连篇。这就要求一定要多用实词，少用虚词。我这里所说的虚词就是指那些比较大的词。比如我们说一个很好的时候，不应该之说nice这样空洞的词，应该使用一些诸如generous, humorous, interesting, smart, gentle, warm-hearted, hospital 之类的形象词。再比如：

走出房间，general的词是：walk out of the room

但是小偷走出房间应该说：slip out of the room

小姐走出房间应该说：sail out of the room

小孩走出房间应该说：dance out of the room

老人走出房间应该说：stagger out of the room

所以多用实词，少用虚词，文章将会大放异彩！

六、多变句式原则

1.加法（串联）

都希望写下很长的句子，像个老外似的，可就是怕写错，怎么办，最保险的写长句的方法就是这些，可以在任何句子之间加and, 但最好是前后的句子又先后关系或者并列关系。

比如说： I enjor music and he is fond of playing guitar. 如果是二者并列的，我们可以用一个超级句式：Not only the fur coat is soft, but it is also warm. 其它的短语可以用：besides, furthermore, likewise, moreover

2.转折（拐弯抹角）

批评某人缺点的时候，我们总习惯先拐弯抹角说说他的优点，然后转入正题，再说缺点，这种方式虽然阴险了点，可毕竟还比较容易让人接受。所以呢，我们说话的时候，只要在要点之前先来点废话，注意二者之间用个专这次就够了。

The car was quite old, yet it was in excellent condition.

The coat was thin, but it was warm.

更多的短语：despite that, still, however, nevertheless, in spite of, despite, not with standing

3.因果（so, so, so）

昨天在街上我看到了一个女孩，然后我主动搭讪，然后我们去咖啡厅，然后我们认识了，然后我们成为了朋友…可见，讲故事的时候我们总要追求先后顺序，先什么，后什么，所以然后这个词就变得很常见了。其实这个词表示的是先后或因果关系！

The snow began to fall, so we went home.

更多短语：then, therefore, consequently, accordingly, hence, as a result, for this reason, so that

4.失衡句（头重脚轻，或者头轻脚重）

有些人脑袋大，身体小，或者有些人脑袋小，身体大，虽然我们不希望长成这个样子，可如果真的是这样了，也就必然会吸引别人的注意力。文章中如果出现这样的句子，就更会让考官看到你的句子与众不同。其实就是主语从句，表语从句，宾语从句的变形。

举例：This is what I can do.

Whether he can go with us or not is not sure.

同样主语、宾语、表语可以改成如下的复杂成分：

When to go, Why he goes away…

5.附加（多此一举）

如果有了老婆，总会遇到这样的情况，当你再讲某个人的时候，她会插一句说，我昨天见过他；或者说，就是某某某，如果把老婆的话插入到我们的话里面，那就是定语从句和同位语从句或者是插入语。

The man whom you met yesterday is a friend of mine.

I don’t enjoy that book you are reading.

Mr liu, our oral English teacher, is easy-going.

其实很简单，同位语--要解释的东西删除后不影响整个句子的构成；定语从句—借用之前的关键词并且用其重新组成一个句子插入其中，但是whom or that 关键词必须要紧跟在先行词之前。

6.排比（排山倒海句）

文学作品中最吸引人的地方莫过于此，如果非要让你的文章更加精彩的话，那么我希望你引用一个个的排比句，一个个得对偶句，一个个的不定式，一个个地词，一个个的短语，如此表达将会使文章有排山倒海之势！

Whether your tastes are modern or traditional, sophisticated or simple, there is plenty in London for you.

Nowadays, energy can be obtained through various sources such as oil, coal, natural gas, solar heat, the wind and ocean tides.

We have got to study hard, to enlarge our scope of knowledge, to realize our potentials and to pay for our life. （气势恢宏）

要想写出如此气势恢宏的句子非用排比不可！

七、挑战极限原则

既然是挑战极限，必然是比较难的，但是并非不可攀！

原理：在学生的文章中，很少发现诸如独立主格的句子，其实也很简单，只要花上5分钟的时间看看就可以领会，它就是分词的一种特殊形式，分词要求主语一致，而独立主格则不然。比如：

The weather being fine, a large number of people went to climb the Western Hills.

Africa is the second largest continent, its size being about three times that of China.

如果您写出一些这样的句子，不得高分才怪！

One of my favourite coffee shops in #Beijing, Bear Brew. It's found down a quiet #hutong where you can sit on the roof by the White Tower Temple. Stunning.
