Maybe AI will kill us all. Maybe it will steal our jobs. Maybe it will be awesome and improve our lives beyond our imaginations. Or, perhaps, this is all hype, and it's doomed to go the way of the metaverse. Amid all the unknowns that surround artificial intelligence, one thing is true: Almost everyone is a little bit lying about it at the moment.
Companies know investors have an appetite for all things artificial intelligence right now, and they're eager to show off how they're integrating the new tech into their businesses — or at least say they are. The Securities and Exchange Commission's chair, Gary Gensler, recently warned about "AI washing," or companies giving off a false impression that they're using AI so they can amp up investors. And while some companies are simply exaggerating the tech they do legitimately use, others have taken it a step further. In March, the SEC settled charges against a pair of investment advisors that were accused of making "false and misleading statements" about how they're using AI. The regulator said one of the firms, Delphia, claimed it used AI to "predict which companies and trends are about to make it big and invest in them before everyone else" when, in fact, it didn't. The other, Global Predictions, falsely called itself the "first regulated AI financial advisor," per the SEC. The firms agreed to pay a combined $400,000 in civil penalties without admitting or denying the SEC's findings.
From the 'godfathers of AI' to newer people in the field: Here are 16 people you should know — and what they say about the possibilities and dangers of the technology.
©Meta Platforms/Noah Berger/Associated Press
Artificial intelligence has leaped into the mainstream after ChatGPT launched in November.
Researchers, CEOs, and legislators are now talking about how AI could transform our lives.
Here are 16 of the major names in the field — and the opportunities and dangers they see ahead.
Since ChatGPT launched last November, AI has catapulted into the mainstream.
Investment in artificial intelligence is rapidly growing — on track to hit $200 billion by 2025 — as companies race to ramp up their AI divisions. People are grappling with how applications of AI will change the way we communicate with one another, make our lives more efficient, or even how AI could replace our jobs.
And yet, over the past few months, major business leaders and researchers in the field have begun speaking up about the risks and benefits associated with the dizzying pace of AI development. Some say AI will lead to a major leap forward in the quality of human life. Others have signed a letter calling for a six-month pause on development, testified before Congress on the long-term risks of AI, and claimed it could present a more urgent danger to the world than climate change.
In short, AI is a hot — and controversial — topic right now. To help you cut through the frenzy, Insider put together a list of some of the big names in the field. Of course, no list can be completely comprehensive, but here's a good starting point to learn what leaders in the field are saying about how the technology could shape our future.
Most companies aren't being accused of breaking the law with their AI chatter, but they're definitely posturing around it. An analysis from Goldman Sachs found that 36% of S&P 500 companies mentioned AI in their fourth-quarter earnings calls, a record high. Businesses were just showing up at Nvidia's little AI Woodstock event — a four-day AI conference held in an arena in San Jose, California — hoping to get some hiring halo effect from merely being in the chipmaker's presence. As to how much there is there on many of these AI claims, well, there's some hyperbole going on.
"There is a certain grandiosity to what is being discussed in terms of potential, and I think part of it is people don't know if or when some of these things are going to be achievable," Scott Kessler, the global sector lead of technology, media, and telecommunications at Third Bridge Group, said. "People are very excited, and rightly so in some cases, but these things aren't going to happen overnight."
There is a certain grandiosity to what is being discussed in terms of potential, and I think part of it is people don't know if or when some of these things are going to be achievable.
While some companies are clearly just bolting on AI ideas to their existing businesses, even projects that are explicitly about developing the next wave of this tech are hitting stumbling blocks. Google's Gemini rollout has been a mess amid criticism that it's "woke" and biased and seemingly can't decide whether Elon Musk is better or worse than Adolf Hitler. And while OpenAI's ChatGPT generated a lot of buzz last year, it's still got a tendency to make stuff up.
"The release of ChatGPT was a brilliant marketing campaign in some sense. It really worked very well. It completely mesmerized people," said Daron Acemoglu, an institute professor of economics at MIT and a coauthor of the recently released "Power and Progress: Our 1000-Year Struggle Over Technology & Prosperity." He said there were some "pretty impressive achievements" embedded in ChatGPT, which could be indicative of what's possible, but OpenAI hyped up the product as much as possible to raise money, attract talent, and compete in the hypercompetitive tech industry.
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and the poster child/messiah for the AI industry still speaks about the tech in a nebulous, nonspecific, and, at times, overstated manner. As the tech writer Ed Zitron has noted, he's said his kids have more AI friends than human friends and that the tech will replace almost everything marketing agencies do, among other eyebrow-raising claims. It's not the case that Altman's being disingenuous — it's just that it's not super clear what the present capabilities of the technology even truly are, let alone what they might be in the future, so making bold, concrete claims about the way it's going to affect society seems presumptuous.
What is clear, however, is that there's a belief that there's a lot of money to be made, and overselling has become a near-constant of the AI landscape. While the semiconductor industry is seeing an enormous amount of demand on the infrastructure side of AI, not all companies in the arena are created equal. Companies such as Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom are big winners, but then there are others out there "who want to be part of the story," Angelo Zino, a senior industry analyst at CFRA Research, said. "The way they would kind of spin it is somewhere along the lines of, 'We expect AI to be a huge beneficiary of our business, and we see increasing orders related to AI,' and it might be some hard-disk-drive maker, which isn't necessarily an AI play," he said.
A lot of these companies are not yet showcasing exactly what type of revenue they're getting from AI yet because it's still so small.
Even the Big Tech companies that are really moving and shaking in AI are on shifty ground at times. Tech giants such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are telling sales executives to hold their horses on how they're pitching their generative-AI capabilities to clients, The Information reported. Just because you layer AI into your offering doesn't mean it's actually helpful to your customers in a way that makes a significant portion of them willing to pay a lot for it. Take the example of Microsoft's Copilot, which the company isn't breaking out a ton of detail on, revenuewise, at the moment.
"A lot of these companies are not yet showcasing exactly what type of revenue they're getting from AI yet because it's still so small," Zino said.
As for the nontech companies talking about AI, it's hard to tell what exactly anyone means or what's hope versus reality. I recently found myself in a conversation with a bank executive who touted her firm's efforts in generative AI. When I pressed to find out what she was talking about, thinking it was something big, she told me they were figuring out how to use AI to help representatives in call centers look up information. That's probably nice for newer employees who are trying to get the hang of things. However, it isn't game-changing.
AI innovation is an important development. There are plenty of reasons to believe that this isn't the dot-com bubble 2.0, or even crypto, and that this technology will have a meaningful, if yet undefined, impact. (Hopefully, not the one where it wipes out humanity.) But the financial incentives here make it easy and tempting to overstate things. For many companies and entrepreneurs in the space, their wildest AI dreams are dollar signs.
"There is some sort of a cascade that if you are not talking about integrating generative AI into your workflow somehow if you're a medium to large company, you are sort of behind the times," Acemoglu said. "And I think dreams of automation are never too far from the minds of many managers."
It's genuinely unclear what generative AI and what comes with it will bring, which is both unsettling and comforting. The hyperoptimistic and hyperpessimistic takes are likely wrong, meaning the truth will ultimately wind up being somewhere in the middle. But anyone who tells you they know exactly what is going on in AI and where it's headed is lying.

W6: social media influencers and the slow fashion movement.
Influencers are defined as people who have an impact on a certain group or community through images, actions, and ideas that are received to a certain extent. Hence, the establishment of influencers is formed based on the platform and method they choose. Social media platforms, influencers have used social media platforms as a marketing method of advertising products(Evers,2021). With social media and its viral nature, influencers have a greater chance of engaging online audiences than traditional media audiences before social media platforms came along. The strong growth of platforms contributes to the ever-expanding role and influence of influencers in the marketing strategies of fashion brands. Ryu (2019) stated that the pervasiveness and huge user communities that social media platforms possess create a diversity of any user's online fashion preferences and needs. An influencer's online characteristics are also noticed by brands, as they consider whether the influencer audience is a good fit for a brand's promotional product.
Acumen and updates are focused and implemented in building influencers' content, allowing them to maintain their reputation. For promotion in slow fashion, influencers can act as spreaders about fashion trends through sharing images using products. Especially, other things can also be composed of ideals, thoughts or words expressed through the form of posts, videos, sharing slow fashion products (Jung & Jin,2016). However, the fast-paced, consumer-oriented nature of social media may be at odds with the principles of slow fashion, which advocate reducing waste, valuing ethical production practices, and valuing quality over quantity (Korell & Logan,2012).
Korell & Logan (2012) assert that the role of affiliate marketing campaigns in collaboration with social media influencers is extremely important, including influencing brand identity and message communication. For example, set up with Stella McCartney, a fashion house that promotes sustainability with eco-friendly designs, Mariacarla Boscono and Natalia Vodianova, two models and social media influencers were selected for the Spring/Summer 2016 womenswear campaign collection and attracted a wide audience. Hence, the reputation boost can threaten the development of the product in the case of superficiality and inconsistency in the influencer's product promotion process. The core values of sustainability and friendliness of slow fashion can be mitigated by the pressure of content innovation, creating ridiculous and unrealistic ads in the marketing process(Dantas,2020). Hence, In order for influencers to effectively advocate slow fashion, there needs to be a deeper, more critical interaction with the principles of the movement. Brands also need to be selective and decide carefully in the influencer selection process.

Prompt 9: Interpret (through this blog) the most amazing thing you know about nature – get us excited. This is your blog – your audience isn’t out in the field with you so bring the field to your armchair reader.
Our textbook states that one of the challenges interpreters face is capturing and maintaining the audience’s attention (Beck et al., 2018, p. 166). Later, it also highlights that one of the most effective ways to engage large audiences is through storytelling (Beck et al., 2018, p. 222). So, let me tell you a story.
Imagine it’s a quiet Tuesday morning. You’re at the bank, using the ATM before heading to work. The bank hasn’t even opened yet, and you’re the only person there. Suddenly, you hear a noise—a rustling sound from inside. Then, a loud crash! You glance through the window and see two masked figures. Heart pounding, you grab your phone, ready to call… animal control?
As it turns out, these robbers weren’t after money. They were after a tin of almond cookies! That’s because they weren’t people at all—they were raccoons! (I’ve linked two news articles below in case you need proof!) This story is one of my favorites because it challenges the idea that raccoons are just unintelligent pests. In reality, they’re incredibly resourceful problem-solvers, capable of navigating complex situations—like breaking into a bank for a snack.
Raccoons aren’t the only animals that demonstrate remarkable intelligence. One of the most fascinating examples in nature comes from the octopus. Often called escape artists, these cephalopods have stunned aquarium staff worldwide with their ability to sneak out of enclosures, open jars, and even steal food from neighboring tanks (Hunt, 2017). Some have learned to turn off lights and short-circuit power supplies, while others have demonstrated the ability to solve intricate puzzles when properly motivated (Hunt, 2017). If you have a few minutes, I highly recommend watching this video by YouTuber Mark Rober, where an octopus solves a complex underwater puzzle! (Bonus: He has other great videos showcasing animal intelligence, like obstacle courses for squirrels and testing a highly intelligent crow.)
youtube
What amazes me most about nature is how intelligence isn’t limited to just humans. A wide variety of animals, from primates to birds to invertebrates, have demonstrated cognitive abilities that challenge traditional views of intelligence (Bitterman, 1965). What’s even more fascinating is that, like humans, different species have different learning styles (Bitterman, 1965). But why has intelligence evolved in so many species? The answer lies in survival. Problem-solving skills help animals find food, avoid predators, and adapt to changing environments—giving them a distinct evolutionary advantage (Bitterman, 1965). Intelligence isn’t just a human trait; it’s a key part of life across the animal kingdom.
Have you ever witnessed an animal doing something unexpectedly smart? Maybe your pet learned a behavior you never intended to teach them, or you encountered a wild animal that seemed to know exactly what it was doing. Or perhaps you’ve just heard an incredible story about animal intelligence. I’d love to hear about it—share your experiences in the replies!

They talk about depression, anxiety, her trauma response and bipolarity, and how to practice self care during this pandemic. Also he looks stunning.

If you’re like me and you’re attracted to intelligent and educated men, please watch this. He’s so eloquent in describing his love for books and plays and how he connects it to his acting abilities and self-determination. He also explains why he loves to sit and read in trees.
Tommy DiDario - Life & Filming Season 2
https://youtu.be/n5cmMuIvWsk
youtube
This might just be my favorite. Rudy talks about how he became interested in acting, his big move to LA, getting the role, what it’s like filming season 2 during a pandemic, and his bond with the cast. He gets really personal about his fears and what he wants out of life in general. He also describes OBX2 as a “shocker” and that he was wrong in his predictions for the show. Plus he just looks absolutely stunning and shows off his cool lights.
Chicks in the Office - Judy
https://youtu.be/YA684ButGxM

This is such a must watch. Rudy and JD talking about their casting of OBX, their bromance, and everything in between. I love how they bring up the fact that they’ve both been working minimum wage odd jobs before being cast and how they supported each other during the whole process.
MTV News - The Golden Trio

My babies! I love these three together so much. This is such a cute, sappy interview about their characters and their storylines and their romances plus lots of joking around.
Google Talks - Rudison
https://youtu.be/-Z0EqptU4Yg
youtube
Rudy and Madison really go in deep during this one. Everything from Rudy’s weariness around social media and tech to Madison’s pan-sexuality. Rudy also talks about how he gets in the headspace for the abuse scenes. They discuss social injustice, body image on the show, how to cope during the pandemic, and how they relate to their characters, plus so much more.
Popternative
https://youtu.be/tQTGpSUaWUc
youtube
I loved listening to Rudy’s perspective on the entertainment industry being kind of narcissistic and how easy it is to become full of yourself. He explains how everyone in the world can relate to JJ and how that’s the reason he fell in love with him. Also how his mom wasn’t the biggest fan of his character being a total stoner lol. But the cutest part was him talking about his family and how they made like a little mini OBX premiere for him at his house in Alaska, with like a carpet out of napkins and everyone got dressed up...yeah it’s just so damn wholesome. He also is too embarrassed to share the places he went to get food in Charleston lmao. And JD’s life mission is to get the cast on Hot Ones.
Elle Magazine
https://youtu.be/NHdnIo3qgmY
youtube
This one is so interesting in how he reasons his choice to play JJ instead of John B. He says ‘housekeeping’ for the billionth time and talks a lot about JJ and what it’s like filming on location for OBX. This one’s cool because he shares a lot of interesting details I hadn’t heard before, like the fact that he had to learn how to take guns apart and put them back together for JJ’s character training or why filming on the boats was really hard.
AfterBuzz TV
https://youtu.be/37vp9iBix0w
youtube
Rudy talks so effortlessly in this one again and I love hearing him tell stories. He mentions how filming the Politician helped ease some stress from acting in front of crowds and prepared him for those big scenes in OBX. He also talks about filming in Charleston and how he grew up in a musical family.
Tings Magazine
https://www.instagram.com/tv/CAZBdDOgeMa/?igshid=a2hbz0o7wx3
aka Rudy eats a ton of food to support local restaurants while talking about...everything. This is probably the best live to watch if you know nothing about Rudy because he gives a full background to his life, including what it was like growing up in Alaska and how he made the decision to leave. He talks about how difficult his transition to LA was and how he grounded himself in acting. Plus how getting famous during Covid is kinda weird. The cutest thing ever is him talking about first meeting each of the Pogues (poor baby had a bit of separation anxiety in quarantine lmao). Oh, and he speaks Japanese again!
CBS Talks
https://youtu.be/h7ct3N6eU1Q
youtube
Talking about season 1, getting into character, improv, fame, the pandemic, social injustice, Alaskan wilderness shows, and much more. Interesting bit about how his parents were having a hard time understanding his passion, but his mom’s regret of never pursuing gymnastics fueled her support for his acting endeavors.

Dark’s phrase and oft-used hashtag for describing the Trump era and the forces at play throughout it is “White Supremacist Antichrist Poltergeist.” He feels that term “does more than ‘Christian nationalism’ and ‘white nationalism’ in terms of getting to the bottom of a spirit that controls things.”
For Dark, Twitter is a way to lob rhetorical bricks not at other people but at faulty categories or cones of silence. He is a dedicated advocate of Reality Winner, the former intelligence specialist imprisoned for leaking classified materials to The Intercept in 2018. In Winner, Dark sees “a decorated veteran, Christian who has been muzzled by our government for almost four years,” and someone who has few advocates because she does not fit neatly into anyone’s preferred box.
It’s that affinity for people that are hard to classify that drew him to the subject of his forthcoming book for the University of Texas Press. Explain All These Controls: U2 & the Inner America will be, he says, “an argument for U2 as a gift to the species.”
Dark confesses some discomfort with praising a multimillionaire like Bono and acknowledges that U2’s refusal to quit “has made them insufferable to so many.” At the same time, he says, “I also know that I owe a lot of my own moral literacy to what they’ve been laying down.”

MICHAEL CORLEONE ( THE GODFATHER TRILOGY ) NSFW ALPHABET
Disclaimer: My portrayal of Michael Corleone is almost exclusively movie-based. I have read the book and respect it for what it represents, but I have a preference for movie Michael, since I first watched the film, and only read the book years later. That being said, I will selectively borrow elements from the novel here and there, if and when I see fit.
Tumblr media
A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)
After having lost all hope of ever finding love again after having suffered through countless tragedies and betrayals, it is safe to assume that Michael treats you right in all aspects of your life together. So, after sex, he will draw you a hot bath and gently help you wash up and dry off afterwards. Then, he will tenderly tuck you into bed, bring you any snacks and beverages you may be craving, and afterwards he will lay down next to you and hold you against him until you fall asleep with your head on his chest.
B = Body part (Their favourite body part of theirs and also their partner’s)
He’s survived all of these years by keeping his eyes open and his mind clear, so he is quite fond of his keen and sharp gaze. He’s a bit of a sapiosexual, so while he thinks you are the sexiest and most attractive person in this world, it was your mind and your spirit that made him fall in love with you in the beginning. So, to this very day, having a stimulating conversation with you amps up his libido like nothing else.
C = Cum (Anything to do with cum basically… I’m a disgusting person)
He’s a traditionalist at heart, so he prefers finishing deep inside of you, although he will mark you with his seed if that was something you enjoyed. You would have to ask him to do it, though.
D = Dirty Secret (Pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
He loves seeing you wear his clothes - especially his shirts - because he thinks of it as a reinforcement of his claim on you. Although he is not one of those overly jealous or extremely possessive partners, the sight of you enveloped in his garments always manages to reassure him that you are his and his alone, to love and cherish until the day he dies.
E = Experience (How experienced are they? Do they know what they’re doing?)
Surprisingly, Michael has only slept with three women in the past - namely a former girlfriend and his two former wives. But although his experience is relatively limited, he’s been doing it long enough to know exactly how to drive his partner insane with desire and pleasure.
F = Favourite Position (This goes without saying. Will probably include a visual)
Usually it’s either missionary or doggy style, depending on the mood. On one hand, he likes being able to hold you in his arms and look into your eyes as he pounds into you - but on the other hand, the sight of your pretty ass and his girth disappearing inside of you drives him absolutely bonkers. Once in a while, however, when he is particularly exhausted, Michael will just sit back and relax as you ride him to completion.
G = Goofy (Are they more serious in the moment, or are they humorous, etc)
Normally, he is very passionate and serious in bed, because making love to you is one of the few times when he can show you his more vulnerable and romantic side. That being said, realistically speaking sex is a very accident-prone activity in general, and some mishaps are funnier than others - and he is comfortable enough around you to crack an apologetic smile when that happens.
H = Hair (How well groomed are they, does the carpet match the drapes, etc.)
With a military background and his current position as a don, Michael is a very clean and tidy person, and he keeps himself well groomed and trimmed down there. It is not his habit to shave completely, however, unless you expressed your preference for it.
I = Intimacy (How are they during the moment, romantic aspect…)
Michael is a man hardened by the lifestyle he had no choice but embrace. He has learned to guard his heart, smother his conscience and use his reason to make educated and oftentimes ruthless decisions for the sake of his family’s safety and prosperity. But you are his sanctuary, and in your arms he feels loved, chrished and nurtured - and he feels the need to reciprocate your gestures of affection and show you his vulnerable and romantic side. So sex with Michael is always an intimate, passionate and intense experience.
J = Jack Off(Masturbation headcanon)
He doesn’t do it that often - if at all. When it happens, it’s always in the shower, and he sees it as nothing more but instant gratification for his body’s biological functions - nothing more. It only ever happens if you two happen to be away from each other, for example during his solo business trips.
K = Kink (One or more of their kinks)
A food kink, because nothing gets him going quite like licking whipped cream and frosting off your gorgeous body. Light bondage and domination - but nothing too extreme, as his intention is simply to bring you pleasure and not to demean you. Edging, orgasm denial and mild spanking, but nothing more hardcore than that. As previously stated, he loves seeing you wearing his shirts, and he has fucked you countless times while you were still garbed in them. Also a mild and barely there breeding kink.
L = Location (Favourite places to do the do)
He’s a very private individual, so only in the comfort and safety of your home, usually in your bedroom or your shared bathroom. If he is 100% sure nobody will accidentally walk in on you too, he will definitely fuck you on the kitchen counter, and put that food kink of his to good use.
M = Motivation (What turns them on, gets them going)
As a sapiosexual ( a person who finds intelligence to be a sexually attractive quality in others ), having a long and stimulating debate with you is an instant turn-on. Other than that, you are gorgeous and you are all his, and your very presence fills him with desire. So, as long as the two of you are alone, without the risk of being interrupted, he’s game. But if you’re ever not feeling like it, he won’t pressure you into having sex with him, nor will he act grumpy because of it. You are his beloved, and he respect and adores you at all times.
N = NO (Something they wouldn’t do, turn offs)
He will never harm or demean you in any way. So anything too extreme and damaging is out of the question, no matter how much you might beg him to change his mind.
O = Oral (Preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc)
The sight of you, kneeling before him, with your pretty lips wrapped around his girth is heaven for Michael. There are things that you can do with your wicked tongue that drive him completely crazy with need, and he oftentimes finds himself thrusting against your talented mouth. That being said, he reciprocates the gesture every single time, and he is very skilled at it. With a flick of his tongue in the right spot, and a well placed suckle, he can bring you to completion in no time - and he usually isn’t satisfied unless he’s given you several earth-shattering orgasms using only his mouth and deft fingers.
P = Pace (Are they fats and rough? Slow and sensual? etc.)
Depending on the mood, Michael can be slow and sensual, or fast and rough - but it is always a passionate exchange fuelled by your love and perpetual desire for one another. Sex with Michael is much more than a mere carnal act, but rather a complete fusion of your bodies and souls into one.
Q = Quickie (Their opinions on quickies rather than proper sex, how often, etc.)
He’s a busy man with a tight schedule, so once in a while you two simply have to make do with a quick hard fuck.
R = Risk (Are they game to experiment, do they take risks, etc.)
He’s game for experimenting within reason. As long as none of you ends up being hurt or humiliated, he’s willing to give it a try.
S = Stamina (How many rounds can they go for, how long do they last…)
Depending on how tired or well-rested he is, it spans from quickies to extended lovemaking sessions that last all night long. He rarely cums before you do, and usually that happens if you teased him too much beforehand. Even then, he will either recover and fuck you until reach orgasm as well, or he will use his mouth and fingers on you until you are satisfied.
T = Toy (Do they own toys? Do they use them? On a partner or themselves?)
He’s not opposed to toys, but he’s an old school kinda guy, so you would pretty much have to talk him into incorporating them into your guys’ sex life. Be warned, though, he will most probably use them to edge you until you are practically crying for release.
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
It depends on his mood, really. Sometimes he likes to give you exactly what you want, when you want it - and sometimes he can be a complete and utter tease, to the point he drives it drives you completely nuts.
V = Volume (How loud they are, what sounds they make)
He’s relatively quiet, with a couple of low grunts and moans sprinkled in-between laboured breaths. However, he usually cums with a long groan he usually muffles against your neck or shoulder.
W = Wild Card (Get a random headcanon for the character of your choice) X = X-Ray (Let’s see what’s going on in those pants, picture or words)
Well, you know what they say: Tiny man, huge “ego “. And Michael is the perect embodiment of this phrase. The boy is hung and he knows how to it to bring you maximum satisfaction, 100% guaranteed, no returns.
Y = Yearning (How high is their sex drive?)
His sex drive is not actually that high, but he very rarely refuses you if you initiate it. Once you get him going, however, he is relentless.
Z = ZZZ (… how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
Usually he stays up a little longer to admire your slumbering form, as it has a calming effect on him. He will eventually fall asleep with you in his arms, once that brilliant and busy mind of his runs out of fuel.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Warriors - Erin Hunter Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Fernsong/Ivypool (Warriors), Dovewing & Ivypool (Warriors), Fernsong & Ivypool (Warriors), Dovewing/Tigerheart (Warriors) Characters: Ivypool (Warriors), Dovewing (Warriors), Fernsong (Warriors), Tigerheart (Warriors), Pouncestep (Warriors) Additional Tags: Fluff, Meddling, Getting Together Series: Part 4 of hedera helix Summary:
Ivypool has forgiven Dovewing, which would be fine, if it didn't mean they were back to spending all of their time together.
Her clear and obvious choice for "another friend for Ivypool" was Fernsong.
He already liked her, if Ivypool would just let him, and he was sweet, and kind, and kind of cute.
Not really Dovewing's type, but he had a softness to him she could appreciate.
Anyway, that wasn't the important part: the important part was Fernsong was ready and willing to be Ivypool's friend, if Dovewing could just start the hunt.
dovewing wants ivypool to make a friend.
tumblr exclusive: so like. dovewing's warrior ceremony. she is praised for her "enterprise and intelligence" which i mean i lovewing dovewing, but uh...are we sure that's what we're going with firestar? 100%? certain? can't change your mind?
so a lot of the outline for this was nonsense like "dovewing has a plan" "dovewing is enterprising" and so on and so forth

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
July 1, 2021
Heather Cox Richardson
Today, by a 6 to 3 vote, the Supreme Court handed down Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee saying that the state of Arizona did not violate the 1965 Voting Rights Act (VRA) with laws that limited ballot delivery to voters, family members, or caregivers, or when it required election officials to throw out ballots that voters had cast in the wrong precincts by accident.
The fact that voting restrictions affect racial or ethnic groups differently does not make them illegal, Justice Samuel Alito wrote. “The mere fact that there is some disparity in impact does not necessarily mean that a system is not equally open or that it does not give everyone an equal opportunity to vote.”
The court also suggested that concerns about voter fraud—which is so rare as to be virtually nonexistent—are legitimate reasons to restrict voting.
We are reliving the Reconstruction years after the Civil War.
That war had changed the idea of who should have a say in American society. Before the war, the ideal citizen was a white man, usually a property owner. But those were the very people who tried to destroy the country, while during the war, Black Americans and women, people previously excluded from politics, gave their lives and their livelihoods to support the government.
After the war, when white southerners tried to reinstate laws that returned the Black population to a position that looked much like enslavement, Congress in 1867 gave Black men the right to vote for delegates to new state constitutions. Those new constitutions, in turn, gave Black men the right to vote.
In order to stop voters from ratifying the new constitutions, white southerners who had no intention of permitting Black Americans to gain rights organized as the Ku Klux Klan to terrorize voters. While they failed to prevent states from ratifying the new constitutions, the KKK continued to beat, rape, and murder Black voters in the South.
So, in 1870, Congress established the Department of Justice to defend Black rights in the South. It also passed a series of laws that made it a federal crime to interfere with voting and with the official duties of an elected officer. And it passed, and the states ratified, the Fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution, declaring that “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”
Immediately, white Americans determined to stop Black participation in government turned to a new argument. During the Civil War, the Republican Party had not only expanded Black rights, but had also invented the nation’s first national taxation. For the first time, how people voted directly affected other people’s pocketbooks.
In 1871, white southerners began to say that they did not object on racial grounds to Black voting, but rather on the grounds that formerly enslaved men were impoverished and were electing to office men who promised to give them things—roads, for example, and schools and hospitals—to be paid for with tax dollars. Because white men were the only ones with property in the postwar South, such legislation would redistribute wealth from white men to Black people. It was, they charged, “socialism.”
In 1876, white southerners reclaimed control of the last remaining states they had not yet won by insisting they were “redeeming” their states from the corruption created when Black voters elected leaders who would use tax dollars for public programs.
In 1890, a new constitution in Mississippi, which at the time was about 58% Black, restricted voting not on racial grounds but through a poll tax and a “literacy” test applied against Black voters alone. Mississippi led the way for new restrictions across the country. Although Black and Brown Americans continually challenged the new Jim and Juan Crow laws that silenced them, voting registration for people of color fell into single digits.
These laws stayed in place for 75 years. Then, in 1965, Congress passed the Voting Rights Act, designed to undo voter suppression laws once and for all. The VRA worked. In Mississippi in 1965, just 6.7% of eligible Black voters were registered to vote. Two years later, that number was 59.8%, although there was still a 32-point gap in registration between Blacks and whites. By 1988, that gap had narrowed to 6.3%, and in 2012, 90.2% of eligible Black residents were registered compared to 82.4% of non-Hispanic whites.
The Voting Rights Act was considered so important that just 15 years ago, in 2006, Congress voted almost unanimously to reauthorize it.
But the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts, who has long disliked the VRA, has chipped away at the law, cutting deeply into it in 2013 with the Shelby County v. Holder decision. And now, with three new justices appointed by former president Trump, the court has weakened it further.
To what end are we returning to the 1890s?
The restrictive voting measures passed by Republican-dominated legislatures are designed to keep Republicans in power. Today that means allegiance to former president Trump, whose Trump Organization and Trump Payroll Corporation were indicted by a New York grand jury today, along with Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg, on 15 felony counts, including a scheme to defraud, conspiracy, grand larceny, criminal tax fraud, and falsifying business records.
The indictment alleges that the schemes involve federal, as well as state and local, crimes. New York Attorney General Letitia James emphasized that the investigation is not over.
Republican lawmakers are lining up behind the former president so closely that last night,
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) threatened to take away the committee assignments of anyone agreeing to work on the select committee to investigate the events of January 6 that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is putting together after Senate Republicans filibustered the creation of a bipartisan independent committee.
(McCarthy’s declaration prompted Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who appears appalled at the direction his party has taken, to respond “Who gives a s--t?” He added: “I do think the threat of removing committees is ironic, because you won't go after the space lasers and white supremacist people but those who tell the truth.”)
Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) nonetheless said she was “honored” to join the committee, along with seven Democrats. While it is unclear if McCarthy will add more Republicans, it will now get underway. The committee includes House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), both of whom showed extraordinary ability to assess huge amounts of material when they managed Trump’s impeachment trials.
That the Republicans have fought so hard against an investigation of the January 6 insurrection suggests we might well learn things that reflect poorly on certain lawmakers.
So, today’s news puts the American people in the position of watching as a political party, lined up behind a man now in legal jeopardy, who might be involved in an attack on our government, tries to cement its hold on power.
“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court undercuts voting rights in this country,” President Biden said, “and makes it all the more crucial to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and expand voting protections.”
“Our democracy depends on it.”
