logan's moving out
pairings: 4lyfers x fem!driver
notes: hi please give this attention im not even kidding how difficult it was to write this like i'm actually kinda sad
(series masterlist) | (📂 the sophomore year)
Tumblr media
liam scowls, throwing his head back. he points his hand towards logan, sat on the couch, fiddling with a rubix cube he’d found underneath the couch. “you’re not even helping!”
“i didn’t know kidnapper took my rubix cube,” logan mutters.
the girl passes him, walking between the couch and the coffee table, snatching away the rubix cube from his hands. “you don’t even know how to play with a rubix cube,” she mutters, “and this is mine.”
logan huffs, rolling his eyes and throws his arms into the air. “you never let me have anything.”
she furrows her eyebrows. “you moved into my furnished apartment at the start of last year.”
“there’s gotta be something in the living room that’s mine,” logan frowns, looking around for something to take with him.
“what time are we drinking?” oscar throws his head back, looking over from the dining table. on the table is a set of uno cards messily strewn in different directions. on his right is lily and to his left is ylona with a small grin. “you guys are taking too long.”
“we wouldn’t be taking so long if everyone helped like they promised,” she huffs underneath her breath with a small eye roll. “anyway, logan’s still trying out being a thief right in front of my eyes.”
“babe,” ylona snorts, “don’t steal from rocky.”
mick walks out of logan’s room, a box of neatly folded clothes inside. he drops it right by the kitchen where the rest of logan’s boxes rest, stacked above one another. “logan loves stealing from rocky.”
“i do not!” logan defends himself. “wait, whatever. i’m just saying — there has to be something that’s mine in the living room. there’s no way that i was leeching off rocky the entire year and a half we stayed together.”
“you probably have more things in her parents’ home rather than here,” oscar points out, playing a card on the table. “hurry it up. i’m hungry and thirsty.”
she hadn’t expected logan to move out so soon. while she knew that living with logan for the rest of her life isn’t a viable arrangement, she hadn’t expected him to decide to pack up and live with his girlfriend while being together for less than a year.
he had told her about a month ago, at the start of september that he’d be moving in with ylona. not too far away, just an apartment down the road. but it still feels like a part’s of her being torn from her — the same way she felt when oscar had moved out of her parents’ when he landed a reserve driver spot with alpine.
she didn’t expect the 3 of them to live together for the rest of time, but it’s just weird to spend growing up every single day with them for years to end up barely talking sometimes outside of race weekends.
“rocky, what do you think?”
she maintains her blank stare on kidnapper, sleeping under the coffee table with a hum. “think of what?”
“let’s head out for dinner as a quick pick-me-up,” mick grins slightly, “and then we drop by the store to get drinks then we continue packing. when we’re done with that, we drink! how’s that sound?”
she lifts her head with a small grin. “yeah, absolutely.”
Tumblr media
the uneasy feeling in her chest never leaves the entire evening. from the moment they’d all spilled out of the apartment to grab dinner, asking each other where they should eat to the moment they were stumbling back in to pack what’s left of logan’s clothes.
she sits in the living room now in silence, playing with kidnapper with one of the toys she’d gotten him in a dim corner. everyone else is in logan’s room, helping fold and pack what mick hadn’t gotten in boxes earlier.
“hey, are you okay? you’ve been here since we came home from dinner.” she glances over her shoulder, a small grin spreading her lips at the man now taking a seat next to her on the ground by the cat tree. “i’m surprised you haven’t started crying yet. remember when i moved out of your parents’?”
she throws her head back with a soft groan and an eye roll. “that seems like forever ago.”
“it was,” oscar laughs, leaning back against the wall as kidnapper curiously climbs on his lap. “how do you feel now that you’ll be living alone?”
“not sure,” she shrugs, dropping her head with a soft chuckle. “i like living with logan, you know? everyday was a party.”
“living by yourself can still be party, you know,” he points out and rests his head on the wall behind him. “you knew we weren’t going to be around forever.”
she presses her lips together as she tries to navigate the lines in her head and pinpoint why she’s always so upset when either of them move out. perhaps she feels left behind once more?
sure, that lingering feeling of jealousy arose occasionally when they were younger, always progressing with their racing careers without her at times. but there’s no reason to feel this way at 21 when they’re all at the same stages of life.
“i mean… before logan asked if he could move in with me, i was prepared to be live by myself. but you know,” she trails off as she lifts her head with trembling lips. “that was a year and a half ago.”
“aw, mate,” oscar coos, reaching over to rest a comforting hand on her knee. “i know he sprung this on you a little too soon. but you’ll be fine, you know?”
“i know,” she grins, craning her neck back to sigh at oscar. “i’m going to let him take stubby with him. i know the bond they’ve formed, you know? i’m going to miss that dog.”
“you know you don’t have to. you adopted stubby.”
“just seems cruel to keep stubby when he very clearly prefers logan over me.” she takes a deep breath and exhales shakily. “we should help them out so we can drink with them, right?”
oscar glances down at the black cat that’s settled in his lap. “i can’t get up — kidnapper’s on my lap. it’s your turn now.”
she rolls her eyes but still slowly gets up from her spot. “i will be back for my cat, oscar piastri.”
Tumblr media
“i know it was sudden when i told you i was planning to move out,” logan mutters, lifting his head to look at the girl in the single seater couch across the room. “i’m sorry.”
the girl looks up from her phone, her screen illuminating her face with a small grin and flushed cheeks from the drinks they’d consumed. the empty glass bottles riddle the floor of their — no, her — living room. “we can’t be roommates forever. it’s okay.”
around them are liam and mick, passed out in their individual spots with pillows and blankets strewn over their bodies. oscar and lily are coddled up in her bed and logan’s got ylona’s head in his lap as she lies on the couch with stubby in her arms.
“i’m sorry i didn’t even ask you what you thought about it at first,” he admits. “you let me move into your apartment then i just spring my decision to move out 3 weeks ahead of time. i’m sorry, rocky.”
“it’s okay, really. like–”
“dude.” the firmness in her voice makes her drop her phone into her stomach. she sits upright with a small grin on her face and a heavy sigh. “i’m sorry. 2024 hasn’t been great for our friendship.”
she laughs softly, dropping her back against her seat. “are you talking about the crash? that was months ago, mate. i totally overreacted. so much for ‘whatever happens on the track, stays on the track’. i’m sorry.”
but meeting his eyes across the room, her smile fades when she notices that he’s not smiling or giggling along with her. “you know what i’m apologising for.”
tears flood her eyes and she forces herself to look away to wipe them away. “mate. it’s been 9 months.”
“stop brushing it off,” logan whispers, shaking his head. “i’m sorry, okay? you’re still my best friend — you know that, right? nothing’s changing. i’m just 2 blocks down the road; call me if you need me.”
she smiles, hanging her head as she turns to look at him. “likewise. take stubby with you, by the way. he seems to be very fond of you and ylona, anyway.”
“what? no, that’s crazy. stubby is your dog.”
she shakes her head and holds a hand up to stop him from talking. and she knows that he knows what that means — there’s nothing he can say to change her mind. “take him. he’ll be happier with you guys.”
logan’s stare lingers on her, smiling back before she picks up her phone from her stomach. “you should bring ylona to your bed. the couch is uncomfortable, mate.”
logan grins. “okay. do you want to share the bed with her? i know oscar and lily’s fallen asleep in yours. i can sleep out here if you want.”
she shakes her head, following his gaze as he carefully manoeuvres ylona to guide her back to his room. “i’ll be okay. you don’t have to look out for me so much anymore, mate. i’m a big girl.”
Tumblr media
“everything’s in the car,” oscar calls out from down the hall, popping his head from the corner that leads to their life lobby. “need a minute?”
“i’ll be down in a second,” logan answers, looking over his shoulder as oscar nods firmly and disappears into the corner. he lets out a shaky breath before he turns back to the small girl standing by the door, handle in her hands as she leans against the door frame. “i’m going to miss living with you.”
she smiles, another tear falling right out of her eye. “i’m going to miss you too. it’s okay that we’re like this, right? we’ve lived together for almost a decade — it’s weird not waking up to your breakfast.”
“don’t skip breakfast, okay?” he presses his lips together. “take care of yourself, dude.”
she laughs her sob out, more tears starting to roll down her cheeks. she sighs, palms over her face as she shies her emotions away. “this is so stupid. i’m literally coming over to help you move in in an hour. i just need to take a shower and feed kidnapper some breakfast.”
logan snorts, throwing his head back, tears slowly leaving his eyes. “10 years is a long time to be living together. we’re still best friends even if we’re not living together. we’ve made it work with oscar, haven’t we?”
“obviously,” she mutters. “i’ll see you later, okay?”
“okay,” logan grins. he leans down, wrapping both arms around her smaller frame and tightens his grip. “i’m sorry again for how things turned out. you’ll always be my best friend, you know that, right?”
she stumbles into him, tiptoeing as she tries to keep her feet on the ground as he squeezes her and lifts her off the ground slightly. “i know. you’ll always be my bestest friend in the entire world, lo. forever wasn’t going to wait for us.”

PROLOGUE! ── ˙ ̟ bring home the glory !!
𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 :: how heavy is the weight of a legacy, and what would you do to protect it? to you, legacy means the formula one team bearing your family name. as a child, you eagerly tagged along with your mother to races, sharing laughs with the engineers and mechanics, and being lifted into the air in triumph after every win. yet as time passed, those moments became fewer and farther between, and before you knew it, the once-legendary team was now scraping by at the back of the pack. in your final visit with your grandfather before he passed away, you made a promise to him: you would drive for the team that he and your grandmother poured their blood, sweat, and tears into, and you would restore glory to the williams surname, whatever it takes.
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞 :: new series!! so excited for this one. tell my your thoughts, and if you want to be added to a taglist <3

MOTORSPORT ARTICLE: WILLIAMS' LINE-UP FINALLY REVEALED.
In a groundbreaking move for both motorsport and gender equality, Williams Racing has announced the signing of Y/N Williams as one of their drivers for the 2024 Formula One season. With this move, Williams becomes the first female driver to secure a seat in Formula One in more than forty-five years, marking a significant milestone in the sport's history.
The decision to bring Y/N Williams on board comes on the heels of her remarkable performance in the Formula 2 championship in 2023. In only her second year competing in the series, Y/N clinched the championship title, showcasing her exceptional talent and determination on the track. Her impressive season saw her clinch multiple victories and podium finishes, solidifying her status as one of the most promising young drivers in the sport.
For Williams Racing, the decision to sign Y/N Williams represents a bold step towards revitalizing the team's fortunes on the track. Following a challenging season in 2023, marred by inconsistent performances and disappointing results, the team is eager to usher in a new era of success with fresh talent at the helm.
The announcement of Y/N Williams as a Williams Racing driver also comes with a reshuffling of the team's lineup. In an expected move, Logan Sargeant, who had been part of the team since the previous season, will step down from his role as a full-time driver. However, Sargeant will remain with the team in a new capacity, serving as a reserve and simulator driver, lending his experience and expertise to support the team's development efforts.
The news has sparked a flurry of reactions from fans and pundits alike. While many have hailed it as a historic moment for gender equality in motorsport, others have expressed skepticism, questioning whether swapping one rookie for another will indeed bring about the transformative change the team needs.
Some voices within the Formula One community have raised concerns about the pressure and scrutiny she may face as the first female driver in the sport in several years. Yet, amidst the debates and uncertainties, there remains a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation surrounding her debut season.
As the countdown to the 2024 Formula One season begins, all eyes will be on Y/N Williams as she prepares to make her mark on the world's most prestigious racing stage.

A/N: I know this goes without saying but I am a WHORE for broken men and the “I can fix him trope”, Logan fits just that. LEMME KNOW WHAT YALL THINK!! (not proofread btw)
You find yourself standing in front of a familiar door that morning—Wade's door. He had been the one to play matchmaker between you and Logan, always eager to meddle in his own chaotic way.
‘Sweet and sour, just how I like my cu-‘ he used to tease about your dynamic, though he never meant harm. How could he, when all you did was bring him and Al delicious dinners and baked goods? Wade would’ve married you himself if Vanessa weren’t in the picture. ‘You’re my twin flame,’ he’d often joke, even though you were nothing like him. You were quiet, reserved, and detested socializing unless it was within the comfort of either your or Wade’s apartment.
Now, here you are, on the morning of your worst heartbreak, clutching a tub of ice cream and a bag of microwavable popcorn outside his door.
Three sharp knocks echo in the hallway. You hear a clatter from inside, followed by a string of muffled curses, until the door swings open to reveal a face that knocks the air right out of you.
Logan.
“Oh...” Your eyes widen as you freeze, a storm of emotions brewing within you.
Before you can stop yourself, you push past him, setting down the ice cream and popcorn on a nearby table. When you turn around, your face is met with the solid wall of his chest. He looks down at you, sorrow etched deep into his features. And suddenly, everything boils over.
“You,” you spit, fire blazing in your eyes. You strike his chest, again and again, and he lets you—lets you unleash your frustration, your anger, because he knows he deserves it.
“You left. No warning, no note. You were just... gone! Clothes packed, phone off! What were you thinking? I begged you to stay, Logan. I begged.” Your voice cracks, and the tears come, burning hot down your cheeks. But all you notice is the tears in his eyes, and the soft rustle of movement from the kitchen where Wade is likely listening.
You try to ignore the thought of Al and Wade overhearing your heartbreak, keeping your tear-blurred gaze fixed on Logan.
“Bub—”
“No,” you cut him off sharply. “I know it’s hard, Logan. I do. I was there when Wade went through his worst. I’ve stood by friends in their darkest days. I want to be there for you, through everything. But you shut me out.”
Your voice trembles, betraying you, and you see him instinctively move to hold you, but you step back, wiping at your tears. The hurt in his eyes is unmistakable, but you continue.
“I’m sorry if you think I’m pushing you too hard. I’m sorry if I ask for too much. But I love you, Logan. And no matter how much you run, I won’t leave you. Not ever.”
The silence between you lingers, thick with unsaid words, before it’s broken by slow clapping from the kitchen.
“You really hit him with that one, sweets,” Wade’s voice calls out. “No, seriously, I was just telling him he should’ve dealt with his frustration by boning you—”
But Wade’s words are cut short. Before you know it, Logan’s grabbed your wrist and is pulling you toward the door, past Wade’s crude commentary. He leads you out of Wade's apartment, two doors down to your own, ignoring the continued yells from Wade behind you.
“Logan, what—?” you barely get the words out before his arms are around you, lifting you from the waist until your face is nestled against the crook of his neck. You feel the warmth of his tears against your skin, his body trembling with quiet sobs.
You hold him, your hands moving to comfort him, running through his hair, soothing his ragged breathing.
“You—” he starts, his voice breaking with the weight of it. “In my world... you died. I killed you. I let you die.” His voice shakes as the sobs take over. “I never meant to... I didn’t mean to let them die, bub.”
You feel his knees give way, and the two of you sink to the cold hallway floor. He’s crying harder now, his grip tightening around you as if letting go might make you disappear too.
“I’m sorry, I’m so—”
“Shhh,” you whisper, cutting him off softly. “I’m here. It’s okay. I’m here.”
He clings to you, his desperation palpable. You pull away just enough to cup his face in your hands. “Look at me, Logan. I’m alive. You didn’t lose me—not here.”
You press a kiss to his forehead, feeling his breath begin to slow, then to his tear-soaked eyelids. You kiss him softly, murmuring gentle reassurances between each touch.
“I’m here. I’ll hold you. I’ll love you. Forever. Does that sound like a deal?”
As you cradle Logan’s face in your hands, his breathing starts to slow. The raw emotion in his eyes begins to soften, though the weight of everything still lingers in the air between you. He looks at you, truly seeing you, and for the first time in what feels like forever, a small, shaky smile begins to form on his lips. It’s brief, but it’s there. You let out a breath you didn’t realize you were holding.
“I don’t deserve you,” he whispers, his voice hoarse.
“Don’t say that,” you reply softly. “You’re here now. That’s what matters.”
For a long moment, neither of you moves, the cold floor grounding you both in the present. His arms are still tight around your waist, as though letting go might shatter the fragile peace you’ve found. You stay like that, the world outside your apartment and Wade’s chaotic energy fading into the background.
Eventually, you pull back slightly, your hands sliding from his face to his shoulders.
“Come on,” you say gently. “Let’s get up. You’re going to catch a cold sitting here, even if it’s for a little bit.” You say, aware of his super healing.
Logan hesitates, as if reluctant to let go of the closeness, but then he nods. You both stand slowly, your legs shaky from the emotional intensity. Without a word, you lead him into your apartment, closing the door behind you.
Inside, the dim lighting casts a soft glow over the room. It’s quiet, a contrast to the whirlwind of emotions that just unraveled in the hallway. You sit on the couch, and Logan follows, sitting beside you. There’s still a heaviness in his movements, a man weighed down by too many ghosts from his past, but he’s here. He’s with you.
For a few minutes, the silence is comfortable. You lean against him, his arm naturally wrapping around your shoulders. The rhythmic rise and fall of his chest is a soothing reminder that despite everything, you’re both still here—alive, together.
“You don’t have to talk,” you say softly, sensing the turmoil still swirling inside him. “Not now. Not until you’re ready.”
Logan’s thumb traces slow circles on your shoulder, a sign that he’s listening. After a moment, he speaks, his voice quiet but steady.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready,” he admits. “But... I want to try.”
You turn to face him, your heart swelling with a mixture of hope and sadness. “That’s all I need to hear.”
He leans in, pressing his forehead against yours, his breath warm against your skin. “I’m sorry for leaving,” he whispers. “For everything.”
You close your eyes, feeling the weight of his words. “I know. But you’re here now. And we’ll figure it out. Together.” You reach for his hand, giving it three squeezes before reaching up to give him a peck, one of reassurance.
For the first time in a long while, you both let the quiet settle, not out of avoidance, but out of mutual understanding. The journey ahead might not be easy, but it’s a path you’ll walk side by side. As the minutes tick by, you feel a sense of calm wash over you. You’re not alone in this—neither of you are. And for now, that’s enough.
Suddenly, a loud knock on your door breaks the silence that makes you jump, followed by Wade’s unmistakable voice shouting through the wood.
“Hey! Are you two done with the emotional stuff yet? I’ve got pancakes in here, and they’re getting cold!”
You exchange a glance with Logan, both of you barely suppressing a laugh. The tension in the room eases just a bit, the smallest sliver of normalcy creeping back in.
“We should probably go before he kicks the door down,” you say with a smirk.
Logan stands and offers you a hand, his expression a little lighter now. “Yeah,” he agrees, a small but genuine smile finally reaching his eyes.
And for the first time in what feels like forever, you both walk back toward the world—not broken, but healing, one step at a time.

Hi! Do you still write for Logan Huntzberger? If so could you please write about how he would be when his girlfriend gets a migraine? Thank you so much!
HELL YES.
Logan is such a supportive motherfucker. Logan is a moves heaven and earth to ensure that you're content and happy and comfortable and have all your needs fulfilled. In the words of dolly levi, Logan really will insist you just leave everything to him. You don't even need to ask twice, he gets wind that you need or want something, that you need help or a ride or literally anything else, and it's done. He's like a fucking genie or something.
So when you call him one day to cancel your date bc you have a horrible migrane, he doesn't let you feel bad about it for a moment. Before you have a chance to over explain or apologize, he's already on it.
"No, none of that, Ace. I'll cancel our reservations and call you in sick tomorrow, all you need to do is feel better."
You thank him for being so great, and he's overcome with this sense of jesus christ you are so amazing and I hate that you haven't been treated like literal royalty for your entire life, which really just makes him more determined to take perfect care of you.
A while later he shows up at your place with whatever your craving, any medication you need, hot and cold packs, and some light blocking curtains. He speaks in a soft, gentle voice to keep things nice and quiet for you, gets you set up with some tea or a caffeinated drink, and gets you all comfortable. You hear the door to your apartment open again, and he tells you he brought in housekeeping to catch up on any chores that are stressing you out.
"We can't have anything stressing you out and making your pretty head feel worse, can we Ace?" He smiles softly. He lays you down in his lap or against his chest, and rubs your back while you rest until you feel better. By the time your migraine is gone he has several leads on the top treatment and prevention of migraines, the ones your insurance wouldn't cover. Nothing and no one is going to upset you or hurt you, not if Logan has anything to say about it.

Friends will always Help
Summary : Liam gets paired with a new trainer when Logan is in the US. Unfortunately this trainer doesn't like Liam much. Max and Checo save the day.
WARNING : This fix contains mentions of rape, abuse and other dark themes some readers may find triggering. READ AT OWN RISK
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liam was so grateful to be part of the f1 team. Even as a reserve driver, it was his dream. Heidi worked hard around the Red Bull and RB garage to make sure everything was perfect. He wanted the team to win as much as the drivers wanted to win.
As Liam was packing up his stuff at the Red Bull training centre he started walking towards the stairs so he could head home for the night. As he opened the door and sauntered through he felt someone give him a slight push, he turned around to see one of the Red Bull engineers looking at him with a dirty look.
“Watch where you’re walking Lawson,” he pushed passed Liam and continued down the stairs. Liam just shrugged it off and headed to his car.
Unfortunately, the following days the engineer had picked Liam out of a crowd and Liam wasn’t sure what he did to make the tech mad but whatever it was must have been big. He was in the simulator room this time, just practicing he was pretty happy with the result in his training. He slowly got himself up and stretched as he had been sitting for quite some time. As Liam faced the door he saw the same tech starting at him. Liam just stared for a few seconds he wasn’t sure what to do.
“Why do you always seem to be where I need to go?” That statement confused Liam the engineers never used the racing sim.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t know-“ Liam was cut off by feeling a slap to his face.
“You will only talk to me when I let you talk,” The engineer, that Liam could now see was named Mark, had got into his face. Liam quickly nodded his head. “Christian wants to talk to you in the office,” Mark crossed his arms and moved from the door. Liam blushed a bit before scurrying to the office. He was slightly worried Christian hadn’t asked to see him in the office before so Liam couldn’t help but wonder what he had done.
He carefully knocked before opening the door when he got the okay. Mark had followed him to the office and went inside with him. Now Liam was panicking.
“Hey Liam, I just want to let you know you are not in trouble, always have to start with that,” Christian could see the relief leave Liam’s face. “But over the next couple months for race weekends I have assigned Mark to work with you to get you prepared just in case we need you this year,” Christian smiled and explained the plan, that Mark would accompany Liam to races and they would discuss strategies and how to help prepare Liam for if he was needed. Liam kept his exterior calm but he was nervous, this Mark guy didn’t seem to like Liam much, Liam didn’t want to be stuck with someone who didn’t want to hang out with him. They finished up their meeting before Liam and Mark were excused from Christian's office to get to their next meeting.
Liam slowly walked down the hall. Heidi could tell Mark was burning daggers into the back of his head.
“Of course, Christian pairs me with you, you’ll never have a career in F1,” Those words stung Liam he had always had a bit of a self-confidence issue, but so many of the drivers had reassured him, he deserved to be there. They finally made it to their destination one of the empty board rooms. Liam walked in and sat down at the table, Mark just stood behind Liam handing him some paper and a pen.
“Now instead of doing strategy for a driver like you, I need you to write a letter for me, on why I deserve to have my children and why my ex-wife should be arrested,” Mark explained in detail how Liam was to write the letter. Liam couldn’t tell without Mark saying anything that Liam didn’t get a choice. So slowly Liam began writing all the things that Mark had told him.
Liam was trying his best, unfortunately though he was nervous so he made a mistake he went to scribble it out but Mark smacked the table startling the kiwi before he got the chance.
“I thought I told you to write me a letter, not screw it up, every time you screw up you will be punished,” Mark grabbed a chair before standing up on the table. Liam just stared he didn’t know what was about to happen.
“Put your hand on the edge of the table,” Mark instructed and Liam followed.
The Kiwi honestly just wanted the whole thing to be over. As Liam’s hand rested on the side of the table the way Mark wanted, what he wasn’t expecting was Mark to full force stomp down on his hand. Liam cried out in pain wanting to pull his hand away but the weight was crushing it. Mark removed his foot before crouching down to be closer to Liam, before slapping him across the face.
“Take your punishment like a man Liam,” Mark grits his teeth watching Liam start the letter over again.
Liam wasn’t sure how long he had been in the board room, his hands were red and throbbing, and he was sure he probably had a few broken bones. Heidi tried to count his blessings at least Mark would occasionally crush his other hand so to make sure he’d be able to write. Liam finally got it right, he had done it perfectly. He was holding back tears, he had learnt earlier that crying only made everything worse.
“We’re done for today Lawson, but you better be back tomorrow at 7 am we have a lot to do tomorrow,” Mark slowly leaned down in front of Liam, the kiwi couldn’t help but look away. “Liam you better look at me,” Mark grabbed Liam’s face looking into his eyes before planting a kiss to Liam’s lips. The kiwi tried to get away but it only made Mark hold tighter. When the older man released the kiwi he silently got up and left the room. Leaving Liam alone to finally let the tears he had been holding for hours out. He brought his hands close to his chest trying to relieve any pain unfortunately it wasn’t doing much. Liam knew he had to get going, he managed to grab his phone even though it was incredibly painful, he saw the time he had a media dinner to attend with the Red Bull drivers and if he didn’t get a move on he wouldn’t have time to go home and change. Liam somehow managed to shuffle his belongings into his arms before sneaking out of the training centre. He would have to figure out a way to hide his hands he could see the purple and black already starting to form in places and it was only a matter of time until someone noticed.
He managed to get into his car and took a few shaky deep breaths. He sat there for a bit, he wasn’t sure what to do. He could barely move his fingers let alone drive his car. Liam managed to get his phone on his lap and open his contacts, he searched the list, he wasn’t sure who to call, he didn’t want to tell anyone but he wasn’t sure what to tell them what happened. As he sat contemplating who to call. The Kiwi noticed he must have been sitting there longer than he had meant to and now wouldn’t have time to head home to get changed so what he was wearing would have to do. Liam just took a whim and picked someone.
As the line dialed Liam was getting more and more nervous.
“Liam?” The voice on the other end sounded confused but it brought Liam back to reality.
“Hey Checo, I uh I need a favour,” Liam knew he probably sounded awkward but he and Checo weren’t super close but they were always friendly.
“What can I do for you, Liam? You do remember we have that media dinner tonight?”
“Yeah of course, I was gonna ask could you by chance pick me up on your way I’m still at the training centre,” Liam tried to sound nonchalant but he knew that most people had left the training centre hours ago to get ready for this dinner.
“ of course Liam I’m just about to leave my house I’ll be there shortly,” After thanking the Mexican Liam hung out and let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. He looked around his car thankful that the last dinner party he went to he brought an extra button down and left it in his car. He was even more glad when he realized it was Logan and would cover at least his palms. Liam somehow managed to get his shirt on without undoing any of the buttons, he didn’t think his fingers would’ve let him if he tried.
It wasn’t long before Checo was pulling up beside Liam’s car, the kiwi stepped out, and Liam tried to hide his wince when he went to open Checo’s door. He’s not sure if the older man saw it or not but he didn’t say anything if he did. The two just rode in silence, and Liam was thankful for that. They eventually arrived at the venue Checo parked before the two men hopped out. Chico smiled at the kiwi before instantly walking over to Max and starting a conversation. Liam observed for a minute, not too many cameras but he imagined there were lots of reporters in the room. He saw Yuki and Daniel talking to some of the techs from the garage. Liam was overwhelmed, he usually loved a good media event, they served great food and usually had some fun conversations but right now he wanted to be anywhere but there.
Liam strolled up to the bar, he needed something to take away the pain. What he wanted was to put his hands in the freezer for a bit but he knew he had a job to do. So he slapped on a fake smile before going into mingle. Holding his drink was proving to be a lot more difficult than he intended so he tried to always go converse near a table where he could set his drink down.
As the night went on people were getting more and more drunk. Liam was thankful the shirt he had covered most of his hands so no one had noticed, and if they did they usually only noticed the tip of a finger and he could easily play it off as he had slammed it in his car door. He slowly made the rounds saying goodbye to all the drivers and crew. Liam knew it was late but luckily the train would still have a few more trips to his neighborhood. Luckily it was quiet for a Thursday night so the train was quite empty he just sat with his thoughts. Trying to block out everything that had happened over the day.
Returning to his empty apartment Liam was reminded that Logan was still in the US for another week, he couldn’t fault his boyfriend he was glad he could get a week off and go visit his family, but Liam missed the company of the American. The house seemed to quiet. Walking into his bathroom looking under the sink for the tensor bandage, Liam managed to grab two bags of frozen vegetables out of the freezer, since he couldn’t find any ice packs, and slowly sat himself on the couch placing his hands on the ice. Finally getting some relief. He knew he'd have to wrap his hands soon, especially if any bones were broken he wanted them to heal properly.
Liam wasn't sure when he fell asleep but he woke up on the couch still in his clothes from the night before, his hands were ultimately what woke him up they were excruciatingly pounding with pain. He looked at the clock on the wall seeing it was 6:30 his face dropped and panicked because he was going to be late. He jumped up somehow managed to get his shirt off and ran to the room to grab whatever he could find. He didn't realize though the shirt he grabbed was Logan, a Williams shirt to be specific but Liam didn't care most of the team knew of his relationship and supported the two young men. He quickly wrapped the tensor bandage on his hands, grabbed his keys running outside, to realize he left his car at the training centre and he would have to take the train and then the bus. It was at least a 45-minute trip if all went perfectly and it was already quarter to 7, Lism just sighed before rushing down to the train station, he felt his phone buzzing in his pocket he panickedly pulled it out to see it was Logan calling him. He instantly answered grimacing a bit at the pain.
“Hey baby,” Liam couldn't help the smile on his face.
“Hey, How's it going?” Lian could tell Logan was tired he could hear it in the American's voice.
“I'm okay just heading to the factory for an early start,” Liam explained he made it on the train, cramming in trying to not bump his hands as best he could.
“Liam why is it so loud? Are you on the train?” Liam paled even though Logan couldn’t see him he knew Logan would be suspicious.
“Oh yeah I had a media dinner so Checo just drove me to and from,” he didn’t want Logan to worry so he just stretched the truth a little bit.
“And you didn’t ask anyone to drive you?”
“Most of the team doesn’t have to be there till about 10,” Liam explained he could hear the worry in Logan’s voice, he felt guilty not telling Logan everything but he was so embarrassed of everything with Mark and not being able to drive. He was a reserve driver and he couldn’t handle a tech that was trying to make him tough, he was sure Mark was just trying to prepare him for when he would have a full-time seat. Logan finished up the call before letting Logan go so the American could get some sleep.
Liam ran down the street, he was late, panicking and just wanted to be at the factory. Luckily as he came around the corner he could see it come into view. He ran up to the front doors and was in such a rush he went to pull the door but he didn’t grab the whole door handle which made him bash his hand off the handle. Liam whimpered retracting his hand quickly, he could feel the tears in his eyes, he knew the more he used his hands the worse the pain would be especially since he was in such a rush he forgot to take any pain meds.
He barely made it through the door before he saw Mark standing in front of him.
“What did I say, Lawson?”
“I’m sorry, it’s my fault-“ Liam felt the sting of his cheek.
“I guess I have to teach you a lesson, I thought you were smart but I guess you’re too stupid,” Mark grabbed Liam’s arm as hard as he could and dragged the kiwi back to the board room. He threw Liam to the ground when he entered, and he proceeded to kick Liam in the stomach a few times before reaching down and giving him a few punches, Liam groaned on the floor trying to protect his organs but he knew it was no use, he just let the abuse come, he knew he couldn’t cry but he couldn’t stop the single tear from falling down his cheek.
For the days to come Liam knew the routine, he would arrive at the factory, meet with Mark, get punished for screwing up something, push through the pain and go home and nurse his wounds in the privacy of his home.
Liam lifted his shirt staring at himself in the mirror, he could see the dark marks on his stomach, some were from a few days ago others were a few hours old. Liam knew Logan was coming home in a few days and he wasn’t sure how he was gonna hide it from his boyfriend but he was trying to strategize any way he could. On the bright side whatever Mark was telling Christian they were doing was making his boss happy.
It was the following Thursday that Liam got up like normal and examined his bruising making sure none was too bad, he struggled to get out of bed the pain in his stomach was a lot worse than it had been, but that’s what happens when you have bruises on top of bruises.
Liam showed up at the factory well within the time he was allowed to show up for Mark he couldn’t handle a beating as soon as he arrived he wasn’t sure he’d make the whole day if that was the case. Liam followed the routine to a tea doing everything Mark asked. He was t sure where he went wrong he was so tired and his brain just wasn’t working properly and he was frustrated and in pain and he couldn’t help but let a few tears fall.
“What did I tell you about crying you baby,” Liam was ready for his normal punishment but the look in Mark's eyes scared him he hadn’t seen the older man look like that yet.
“You’re making me do this Liam if you would’ve just behaved this would’ve never happened,” Mark walked over to the door in the corner, Liam didn’t know where that door went, he knew the ins and outs of the factory but he hadn’t been in there, as the door opened Liam could get a glimpse of the dark room, it was an office, he put two and two together. It was Mark's office, there was a desk with a chair and a small black couch. Mark threw Liam on the couch before reaching into the drawer of his desk and pulling out some handcuffs. Liam’s eyes widened, he had no idea what was happening but his brain had some ideas. As Mark handcuffed him to the bed Liam tried to struggle but Mark was bigger than him and with all the pain Liam was in he had very little fight.
Liam felt his belt being undone, he was panicking he didn’t want this, is this what it took to be a Formula 1 driver, if it was Liam wasn’t sure he could do it.
Liam fought against Mark but unfortunately, the bigger man had no issue getting Liam to succumb to him. Mark knew exactly where he had punched and kicked Liam in the week before where all the sore spots were so if Liam wouldn’t behave he would give them an extra hit. Liam managed to muffle his cries he knew making a noise would just make it worse. The pain was extreme, he wanted his first time to be with Logan, he had been saving himself for his boyfriend, and Logan never pressured Liam into anything he didn’t want to do.
Liam was feeling nauseous, the pain was getting to him, and the way Mark was enjoying every minute taking Liam’s innocence, eventually the older man finished, leaving Liam crying and heaving into the trash can next to Mark's desk. He hadn't eaten anything so all he was throwing up was stomach acid.
“I have a few meetings with the team so you have a few hours of training before I’ll be back for round too, my sweet little boy,” Mark placed another kiss onto Liam’s lips in between his heaves, and just like that Mark was gone. Leaving Liam alone, pants around his ankles heaving into a trash can crying. All Liam wanted was to go home and hide. He felt disgusting, dirty, used. Liam finally stopped puking long enough he could gain enough composure to get his bearings. He knew he needed to get to the bathroom and clean himself up. He slowly pulled his pants back up around his waist groaning at the uncomfortable feeling he had from his behind.
Liam slowly stood on shaky legs trying to just keep putting one foot in front of the other. He made sure to wipe his tears before leaving the boardroom. He didn’t want anyone questioning him. Liam made it to the bathroom shut the door behind him, and slid down the wall to the floor, he couldn’t hold back the tears anymore and he just started sobbing, the memories playing in flashes in his mind. He completely lost track of time stuck in his little world.
Max and Checo were just casually chatting as they were walking down the hall. They had just finished up their lunch and were heading to their afternoon meetings, as they passed the men’s bathroom on the second story it was hard to miss the sound of cries coming from inside. Checo gave Max a look before the two began to investigate. Checo slowly opened the door trying not to make too much noise.
The second the door opened Liam’s hand flew to his mouth to try to muffle his sobs, he thought Mark was coming back for him and he couldn’t take it. He hurt so much, he could feel the blood drying where Mark had forced himself into Liam. Liam didn’t want to look, if it was Mark he didn’t want to know and if it was someone else he just hoped they’d either leave as soon as they saw him or do their business and head on their way.
As Checo rounded the corner first he stopped in his tracks. The small kiwi he had given a ride to last week was here in the bathroom crying on the floor. Chico looked at Max worried, he had never seen Liam lose his composure. Checo slowly approached Liam, he wasn’t sure what was going on but he didn’t want to startle the boy who looked so small against the bathroom wall.
“Liam?” Checo said softly, Liam's head snapped up panic on his face as his eyes met Checo’s and then Max’s gaze.
“Liam, what happened?” The Dutchman was next to crouch to Liam’s level, he kept some distance between them.
“Oh nothing, I’m okay,” Liam tried to get himself to stop crying, he needed to handle this on his own, if Mark was doing this to him and he was a reserve driver he could only imagine what happened to Checo and Max. Max went to reach out to the kiwi only for Liam to flail backwards to get away from Max hitting his head slightly on the wall behind him.
“Whoa it’s okay, we’re not here to hurt you,” Checo stopped moving, he was confused, never once did Max or Checo ever hit anyone on their team let alone the young New Zealander.
“Liam, has Logan been hurting you?” Max spoke Checo could hear the anger in Max’s voice, it didn’t happen often but Max could be very protective of his friends. Liam quickly shook his head, he was overwhelmed, and scared, but he didn’t want anyone blaming Logan, heck he had barely talked to his boyfriend in the last week since Mark had him on such a tight schedule.
“Liam if someone is hurting you, please tell us we just want to help,” Checo pleaded with blonde, he hated seeing him so upset.
“Can I sit beside you?” Checo asked carefully. Liam thought about it carefully before nodding. Checo slowly sat beside Liam, “Can Max sit on your other side?” Liam responded with another nod. Max carefully took his spot on the other side.
They sat in silence just letting Liam cry, but they sat with him reminding him they were there and ready when he wanted to talk.
“It was Mark,” Liam whispered looking at the floor between his legs. Checo and Max looked at each other worry evident on both their faces.
“What did he do?” Max couldn’t keep his anger at bay. He never really liked Mark, he always got a bad vibe from the older man.
“When Christian assigned us it was just small things, a slap here, he did break a few of my fingers but that’s whatever they seem okay now, but it just got worse and worse until today…” Liam started crying again, the flashbacks coming in spurts no matter what he did they wouldn’t stop.
“What happened today Liam?” Checo couldn’t believe what he heard. He knew Mark, but he thought Christian had fired that man months ago Checo was mistaken.
“H-he raped me…” Liam was full-on sobbing into his knees. He felt like such a fool, he was supposed to be strong, and resilient and here he was crying in the men’s bathroom in front of two amazing drivers who probably had more important things to do than listen to Liam’s little story.
“Oh Dios mío,” Checo mumbled, he knew Mark was a bad guy but he never expected that.
“Oh Liam,” Max couldn’t help it he was furious but he was also so sad for the kiwi. He could tell Liam was struggling with this “Do you want me to call Logan?”
“No please don’t tell him, I don’t want him to change his mind about our relationship,” Liam had stopped sobbing but he couldn’t stop the tears from coming.
“Liam he wouldn’t, he loves you so much, you know that,” Checo was trying to comfort Liam but they were struggling.
“I know but he’s on the plane anyway I have to explain all these to him anyway,” Liam shows the older boys his bruising under his shirt. They could see all the blue, purple, yellow and green spots covering his entire midsection and chest.
“Oh, Liam and you’ve been working like this?” Checo couldn’t remove his eyes from the bruising.
“Working 12-hour days,” Liam mumbled, it was true he had been working so much overtime he barely had slept in the last week between work, tending to his injuries, and cleaning the house so it would be perfect for Logan when he arrived since Liam knew the boy would be jet-lagged.
“You’re done working for today,” Max said, Liam’s eyes darted up to the Dutchman.
“No I have more meetings with Mark this afternoon, and then he said something about round two,” Liam’s brain wasn’t even making sense he was tired, the trauma of the day making his brain foggy.
“No you will never see Mark again, Checo can you make a few phone calls and make sure we have some people around for Liam until Logan’s flight gets in,” Max looked to Checo who just smiled back. “Okay Liam you go with Checo and I have to go raise hell,” Liam didn’t even have time to process before Max was out of the bathroom.
“Hey Checo,” Liam looked over to the Mexican who was busy texting on his phone who he was texting Liam wasn’t sure.
“Yes mi amiga?” Chico looked up from his text to Lando and Oscar.
“Thank you for everything,” Liam leaned into the older man a bit feeling safe with him which was something he hadn’t felt in a while.
“Of course let’s get you home,” Checo helped Liam to his feet before walking with the younger boy to Checo’s car, slowly helping him into the front seat, Checo wouldn’t rush Liam he knew from experienced the pain Liam was going through, it had been many years since Checo experienced it but those experiences never left your brain.
Max stormed up to Christian’s office, he usually loved his boss but hearing what Liam had endured for the last week and a half made Max furious. Max knocked on the door.
“Come in,” Christian answered smiling at Max.
“You had Mark working with Liam!?” Max started explaining everything to Christian, leaving the older man dumbfounded in his chair. Max wasn’t trying to make him feel guilty but he was so angered. Luckily Christian understood and Mark was fired instantly.
Checo pulled into Liam’s driveway, Liam was confused by the McLaren in the driveway, he wasn’t expecting visitors. Checo helped him inside refusing to leave the Kiwi's side. He could feel the death grip Liam had on him even if Liam didn’t notice he was doing it himself. Liam looked into his living room to see Lando and Oscar sitting on the couch. Charles and Carlos were in the kitchen, all four men looked to Liam as they came in. Liam couldn’t help the heat that came to his cheeks. He saw the sympathetic looks he didn’t even know what to say. He didn’t want people to know but the fact that within 20 minutes all these people showed up for him made his heart warm. He couldn’t help the tears coming again, he was tired of crying.
“Thank you all of you,” it was quiet and if the house wasn’t dead silent they all wouldn’t have heard him.
“Of course mon Ami, now go have a shower get comfy and we’ll have food and a movie picked out,” Charles smiled softly to Liam before Checo slowly guided the Kiwi upstairs to his bedroom.
“I’ll be right here the whole time,” Checo reassured Liam as the kiwi slowly walked towards the bathroom. He undressed himself turning on the shower making sure it was as hot as his body could handle before stepping in. It didn’t fix how he felt but he felt a little better after. True to his word Checo was sitting on the bed on his phone he smiled sympathetically to Liam as the younger boy came out in his sweatpants shirtless and the bruises seemed almost more prominent now. Liam stopped by the closet to pull out one of Logan’s many hoodies and throw it on, the scent of his boyfriend calming Liam immediately.
“Let’s go downstairs and get you some food and we’ll have a relaxing night,” Checo smiled at Liam who returned it with a small smile before they headed downstairs.
Liam saw the four men and now Max all sitting around his dinner table and he could hear the playful arguing before he even made it downstairs.
“But Charles I’m hungry,” Lando whined, Oscar was just chuckling beside him as Charles was glaring at Lando.
“I made it for Liam so he gets to eat first then you can get some,” Charles replied with a look of seriousness but Liam knew Charles could hardly resist Lando he could be pretty persistent when he wanted to be.
“Thank you Charles and Carlos it smells delicious,” Liam said dishing himself a plate before sitting at the table as one by one the group went to get something food. They chatted carelessly during dinner keeping the topics light and humorous. As they finished up Lando and Oscar cleaned the dishes before Checo and Max were guiding Liam who was on autopilot and slowly fading to the middle of the couch that had been filled with blankets and pillows.
“We picked Cars to watch, it’s the only thing we can agree on,” Oscar said to Liam giving him a playful smile, Cars were one of Liam’s favourites but he also knew Charles probably wouldn’t watch anything else even if Max begged him to. They weren’t even half an hour into the movie before Liam felt his eyes slipping closed but he couldn’t stop himself he was just so tired and for the first time in a week and a half he felt safe. All his friends came together to make sure he was okay and he couldn’t have been more grateful.
As the movie came to an end Checo looked at the group, half of them were asleep and the other half were enjoying the end. Checo turned his head as he heard the front door close softly and gentle footsteps before Logan came into view smiling at Checo.
“Oh, I see I missed movie night?” Logan chuckled softly, looking at the couch to see Liam, Lando, Charles and Max all cuddled together asleep on the couch.
“Logan we need to talk,” Checo unfortunately knew he had to tell Logan, he deserved to know, the remaining 4 men all went upstairs to the bedroom so they could talk and not disrupt the sleeping group downstairs.
“What happened? You guys are scaring me?” Logan didn’t like what he was walking into.
“Christian paired Liam with a new trainer while you were gone, Mark was his name,” Checo started but the thought alone made him mad, the fact that Christian even paired Liam with that monster. Checo had heard multiple reports about Mark over the years but most went under the rug.
“He hurt him, Logan, he broke or sprained a handful of the bones in both Liam’s hands, he beat the crap out of him day in and day out, made Liam work 12-hour days but not actual training he made him do his chores, his bidding, and even worse he raped him Logan,” Checo was grateful that Oscar stepped in, he knew it may be easier coming from Logan’s friend then another driver on the grid. Checo could see Logan’s face turning red in anger but then it shifted to hurt, and disappointment.
“Max got him fired it’s dealt with he’ll never have to see Mark again,” Checo added, Logan just ran his hand through his hair.
“And I wasn’t here for him,” Logan felt awful, the love of his life had lived a horrible nightmare while he was having a relaxing vacation with his family.
“But you’re here now and he needs you more than ever,” Carlos smiled to Logan which in turn put a smile on Logan’s face.
The group headed back downstairs, getting comfy beside their partners they managed to move enough sleeping bodies so Logan could crawl in beside Liam and pull his boyfriend close placing a soft kiss on his temple.
“Logie?” Liam mumbled waking up slightly to see his boyfriend beside him.
“I’m here Li, I’m not going anywhere go back to sleep,” Logan said softly so as not to wake the other sleeping boys.
Logan still felt guilty over the coming weeks but he made sure to make Liam feel safe in any way he could and when the memories would get too much for the younger boy Logan just held him close and comforted him. They made sure to thank their friends often and made movie nights a regular occurrence enjoying each other's company.
Chapter 19: Friend Date
Roman glanced around the dim, mood-lit restaurant, one brow arched as a smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. “You sure this is supposed to be a friend date?”
Virgil rolled his eyes, but a faint blush dusted his cheeks. “Shut up, Prince. It’s just Boston Pizza.”
“When you said you’d take me out to dinner, I thought we were hitting a fast-food joint.” Roman chuckled as he followed the server through the crowded restaurant to a red-and-black booth. He slid into the seat across from Virgil, grabbing a menu. “You didn’t, like, reserve a table for us, did you?”
Virgil snorted, flipping straight to the pizza section. “There’s two of us. Why would I need a reservation?”
“It’s Saturday night, Dining in the Dark. This place is packed.” Roman shrugged, glancing around.
“I’m sure there are other empty tables,” Virgil muttered, though his confidence wavered as he peeked over his menu.
Roman’s gaze swept the restaurant, but it stopped abruptly as he narrowed his eyes at a nearby booth. “Is that… Logan?”
Virgil lowered his menu. “Logan?” He leaned forward, shifting to the edge of his seat for a better look.
Sure enough, Logan sat at a table nearby, dressed in a crisp black button-up, facing someone they couldn’t quite make out.
“Is he on a date?” Virgil murmured, quickly sliding over to Roman’s side of the booth to get a clearer view.
“It looks like it. I didn’t know the nerd had game.”
Virgil grimaced. “Great so this means I’m spying on my ex’s date.”
Roman’s head snapped toward him, eyes wide as he gaped. “Your ex?” His voice dropped to a whisper, flicking his gaze between Virgil and Logan. “You dated Logan? Our Mr. Facts-and-Logic? That Logan?”
Virgil groaned, slumping down in his seat. “It wasn’t a big deal. It wasn’t even that long, and we just… eased out of it, okay?”
Roman leaned in, scandalized. “Why didn’t you tell me? Don’t tell me you still have feelings for him.”
Virgil shoved him back. “Of course I don’t. It just never came up. Can we talk about something else?”
Roman raised his hands in mock surrender. “Fine. Let’s talk about Logan’s love life, then.” He glanced back toward the other table. “Who do you think he’s with?”
“I can’t tell from this angle. It’s probably—”
“Logan!” Roman hissed, yanking Virgil back against his chest, pulling both of them out of view.
Virgil’s heart pounded as he braced himself, one knee up on the seat as he leaned back into Roman. “Do you… Do you think he saw us?”
Roman’s face burned, his back pressed against the wall as his gaze flicked nervously to Virgil, who was way too close.
Before either could move, a server cleared their throat beside the booth. “What can I get you two to drink?”
Virgil froze, his eyes darting past the server to a family eating not too far away, eyes zooming in on one of the cups. “Uh, apple juice!”
The server blinked, clearly caught off guard, before nodding. “Of course. I’ll be right back with those.”
As soon as they walked away, Virgil groaned and buried his face in his hands.
“Apple juice?” Roman echoed in disbelief.
“Shut up.”
“Okay, but…” Roman hesitated, clearing his throat. “People are beginning to stare.”
Virgil peeked through his fingers, realizing just how close they still were, their bodies practically squished together in the booth. His face went crimson as he scrambled under the table back to his side, nearly knocking over his menu in the process. He yanked it up to hide his face—upside down.
“S-So… uh, pizza?” he mumbled from behind the menu.
Roman melted slightly at the sight, a grin tugging at his lips as he ducked behind his own menu. “Yeah… pizza.”
~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~{}~
Logan leaned in after handing his menu to the server. “I believe we’re being watched.” He adjusted his glasses as he spoke.
Janus grimaced. “Don’t tell me—did Remus follow us?”
“No,” Logan replied, his gaze flicking across the room. “Virgil and Roman are here as well.”
“Together? On a date?” Janus’s eyes dropped to his thumb, anxiety flickering in his gaze. Another thing Charlotte wouldn’t be pleased about if she found out.
“A ‘friend’ date,” Logan corrected, glancing toward the pair, who were disappearing into their booth. “I’m not sure that will last, though.” He sipped his water. “They’re growing rather close.”
“Is that so?” Janus swallowed, raising an eyebrow. “I noticed they arrived at school together yesterday. Do you think this will become a regular occurance?”
“I know it will,” Logan replied, his eyes narrowing with curiosity. “Is there a reason you're so invested in their relationship?”
“I’m merely interested in learning more about your friends. Shouldn’t your friends be my friends?” Janus offered smoothly, setting his glass down.
“Should I introduce you, then?” Logan asked, beginning to rise.
Janus quickly grabbed his hand, his eyes widening for a split second. “Why now?”
Logan hesitated. “Why not?”
“We’re on a date, aren’t we? Shouldn’t we enjoy it?”
Logan smiled, sitting back down. “I suppose that is true. We also have yet to discuss what we originally had come to discuss.”
“Yes, our findings…” Janus coughed, looking away.
“I found our kiss to be rather… pleasant,” Logan admitted, lifting his glass to his lips to hide his faint blush. “I propose—if you’re willing—that we could… recreate the experiment at some point. Preferably in a more private, controlled environment.”
“Are you wanting to schedule another kiss?” Janus asked incredulously, heat rising in his face as he tugged at the collar of his yellow button-up.
Logan set his glass down, tilting his head. “It would be beneficial for data collection purposes.”
Janus coughed, trying to regain his footing. “Ah, right. Data collection.” He waved his hand dismissively, though the pink in his cheeks betrayed him. “Well, I would not wish to stand in the way of scientific progress.”
“And another date,” Logan added, a playful smirk tugging at his lips. “To study your erubescence further, of course.”
Janus downed the rest of his water like it was a shot of something stronger. “Well, I—” He cleared his throat. “I propose that we go to the masquerade. Together.”
“The masquerade.” Logan paused, nodding after a moment. He held out his hand across the table. “I accept your proposal, Janus Deangelo.”
Janus took his hand, shaking it before turning it over and placing a tentative kiss on the back. “And I yours, Logan Steele.” He leaned back as their food arrived, glancing at the pasta placed before him. Why did it feel like their relationship was being built on experiments and business proposals?
Across the restaurant, Roman sneaked glances at Virgil over his pizza. “Hey, Virge?” He finally managed to speak.
Virgil lifted his gaze from his slice. “Yeah?”
“Thanks,” Roman murmured, ducking his head. “For inviting me out. It’s been fun, just being us.”
Virgil lowered his pizza. “I guess you haven’t been terrible company.”
Roman shook his head, grinning at Virgil, his eyes softening. “I seriously enjoyed this. Thank you. We’ll have to do this again sometime.”
Virgil’s lips twitched, fighting a smile that eventually won. “Yeah… we will.”
They settled into a comfortable silence as they both finished their food. When they finally stepped out of the restaurant, the night air chilled their skin through their coats, the parking lot bathed in soft golden light from the streetlamps.
As they walked toward the car, their shoulders brushed, and for once, Virgil didn’t pull away.
Neither of them noticed the faint warmth that lingered in the space between them, a quiet promise of something more.
this is my last ask to stop annoying you. i don’t know franco a lot but doing these things leaves a sour taste in our mouths as jack fans. because if roles were reserved (franco had the seat and jack got signed), his fans would be upset at it just like we are. imagine jack acting entitled like that, completely disregarding franco and disrespecting him. not only that, but being fully aware that his fans are harassing someone and staying quiet. but then you have the knowledge of him making fun of logan by liking those posts. all three of them worked their whole lives for this, you know? it is heartbreaking to see jack be treated so badly, just like logan was. they are humans with feelings. they were out there wishing death and harm upon him, calling him names. and then they turn around and play victims? it’s hard to be civil and not despise someone after witnessing all that. i’m just really worried about jack and what thay will do to his mental health. kid is under so much pressure and scrutiny. it’s just awful and there is nothing we can do about it. franco won’t tell them to stop and they will continue to go after him even if he no longer has a seat, just like they ruined logan’s post about the new series he’s racing in. and we will also suffer the consequences of it because that will drive him away from social media and from us, and i think it’s really hard to come back from that after suffering this much hate. i just wish he had better because he deserves better. he deserved to be excited and happy and enjoy his dream, not this. he deserved to share his thoughts about living the dream with us, his fans, and not be called nasty things or threatened because of it. he deserved so so so much better.
Oh sorry anon, I didn't realize it was the same you who was sending all these asks. I'm not annoyed, just tired and disappointed. Alpine is a mess.
But yeah, that's all very true. Unfortunately I can't speak for my team since we got Sainz (who I am... not looking forward to) and Franco left. I grew on Franco (after some time) because he's from Williams. Now I just... can't. Jack is literally the only good thing in Alpine (since Esteban, their best driver, hit the jackpot and left for a better team, in all regards and especially how they treat their drivers, Haas) and now he's going to have to pack his bags soon. The Franco move is very weird too. Williams are unstable surely but other than the fluke p6 in the constructors and podium at Brazil, Alpine have been terrible all season too. In fact, dare I say, Alpine's situation has only gotten worse over the years are the conditions of everything has gone down and people kept leaving. Briatore was banned and is now back because...? Idk? He shouldn't be back though, especially not in this downward spiral of a team that will only get worse. It's a bad decision unless he had to know about Jack's contract earlier on, which then makes it fishy...
But whereever Jack goes, so will I. I'm watching ELMS for Logan too (and also fun fact, if it wasn't cancelled, I was going to be this 🤏 close to seeing Logan at his debut ELMS race in Barcelona... but now I can't) and ofc I will hope Jack does well for his limited chances too. It was always against him. Alpine hate their academy and their drivers that aren't named Pierre Gasly or now Franco Colapinto. But, we move. It's unethical and strange. The best thing one can wish for is for this team to go bankrupt.
Todays adventure actually started last night. See, we didnt have reservations for Glacier National Park for today so we played the "next day reservations lottery". It felt like we were on Ticketmaster trying to buy Taylor Swift Era's tour tickets. But...we won. Because of this, we did not have to get up at the ass crack of dawn to get in before 6 am as we had originally planned.
Thank God we didnt. Our KSU today was 7 am. As we got on the MT-35 to go towards Kalispell we had fog. Then it cleared up and was sunny. Then the fog was back. Then sun, then fog. FINALLY it stayed sunny.
We entered Glacier National Park at the west enterance around 8 am. We made sure to go to the Apgar visitors center where I got my National Park Passport stamped. YAY!!! From there we headed east along the Going-to-the-Sun-Road. The road starts by winding through the forest with glimpses of Lake McDonald. The water on Lake McDonald was so smooth this morning it was like glass reflecting the nearby mountains. As we left the forest we found ourselves riding along the lake where we stopped at the Lake McDonald Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast we wandered down to the lake to take in the view and it was amazing.
Now that we were fed, we made our way up to Logan Pass. The road was busy so the going was slow, but slow was needed for this most amazing drive. I cant even count the number of waterfalls and multi-tiered falls we saw today, it was just astounding. As you climb higher in elevation the road steadily gets wetter. And we were riding on the cliff side. Thank goodness they believe in some tyoe of guard rail or short wall in most spots. In fact in one of those spots Jim saw a beaver just chillin' on the wall.
Logan Pass parking lot was BUSY!!! Thankfully they have motorcycle parking at the end of every row. Super handy. We got our pics taken for our MT coin for the 50 Rides 1 Nation from HOG National, saw a Hoary Marmot in the trees and snow, and took a quick wander through the visitors center. Good thing since the wind was blowing anow off the peaks and it was landing on us as rain. As we left Logan pass we headed down towards St. Mary's lake which was a fantastic color blue.
You would think that leaving a National Park as jaw dropping as Glacier would be the end of todays adventure, but you would be wrong. After getting gas in St. Mary it seems that I didn't lock my tour pack and my wallet went flying out. Luckily Jim saw it happen and we were able to retrieve everything. And by "we" I mean Jim and Devin. They were todays lifesavers. But that's not all folks!!!
Crossing the border into Canada was quick and painless. We were making our. way towards Calgary when the storm clouds started moving in on us from the west. We could see sun so we just went for it. We got wet, but more painfully we got hail. Thankfully it only last for about a minute but that shit HURT. Finally, we made it to our B&B for the night where we were able to have dinner delivered and just relax.
Tomorrow is going to be another adventure as we make our way to Banff National Park and the Jasper Ice fields.
He definitely got the hint now.
Silver Fox grinned, shamelessly proud of herself, as she lied back and enjoyed the fruits of her efforts: his hands on her, his mouth on her, the light scratch of his stubble against the soft skin of her throat.
Her gaze never left him. Her eyes had long since adjusted to the dark, letting her see him as he dropped the reserved loner ways in favor of something she favored far more. As her buckskin dress was moved up her body, exposing her breasts, Silver Fox lifted her arms and pulled the dress the rest of the way off, tossing it aside to retrieve later.
Goosebumps blossomed on her skin as his stubble now brushed against her belly. Silver Fox bit her lip, holding back from moaning his name again.
Beautiful, he called her. So far, she had been calling him Logan. It was the name he'd given the tribe— but Silver Fox knew that's also the name the settlers gave the mountain nearby. It was far too much of a coincidence, especially because if he was from the area, he would have his own people to live amongst them, and wouldn't have been found by her the way she found him: wandering, a wolf without a pack.
As much as stopping his ministrations nearly pained her, there was something she needed before they went any further. Her hand went to his face, fingers lifting his chin before her hand went to the furs.
"Your name," she started, her English was still rusty. "I want to know... REAL name."
Tumblr media
Dear God, she's beautiful… Logan stood in the sliver of slightly-lighter darkness dressed in naught but a pair of linen britches, frozen on the spot for the moment, because his eyes were more than able to discern every detail of the tableau before him. And he could have stood there forever simply looking at her, but she wasn't about to let him.
A soft noise of surprise escaped him as she suddenly pulled him down -- a sound that melted into a low, appreciative chuckle. Catching himself with a knee between her legs, a hand on her furs, the other winding under her neck to support her head long enough for him to return the amazingly sweet, hungry kiss she was pressing on him. He'd imagined moments like this, dreamed even when waking. Beyond it all he was, after all, only a man, with a man's needs… Normally he simply found a quiet place in the woods and dealt with it but…
Up close, in the confines of the tent, her scent was intoxicating. Unable to resist, he broke from the kiss only to nuzzle his nose and pepper kisses and soft bites down the side of her neck, along her clavicles. Given that her enticement could only be perceived as tacit permission, there was no point in playing shy, now. Shifting into a crouch, he pulled his hand from under her head and then slid both up her sides, guiding the soft buckskin up and spreading his palms -- surprisingly soft, given the rough work he did -- over her bared skin.
"Beautiful," Logan murmured, leaning down to press a kiss at the spot halfway between her sternum and navel.
Return to Dagger Mountain
Premise: Cassie whisks Ethan off for a romantic weekend, much to his discomfort and surprise.
Book: Open Heart (post series) Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x F!MC (Cassie Valentine) Rating/Category: Teen. Angsty Fluff. Words: 2,615
A/N: Inspired by this edit I made back in 2021. Submission for @choicesjanuarychallenge Day 31 "adventure". I'm participating in @choicesprompts and using @choicesflashfics week 17 prompt 1 (in bold)
Tumblr media
“Grab your coat, leave a note, and run away with me.”
Ethan Ramsey absently glanced up from the computer screen, his reading glasses perched on the bridge of his nose. The temporary annoyance at being disturbed faded from his blue eyes when he saw who it was.
“Who am I leaving a note for, and why are we running away?” he asked nonchalantly, turning back to the screen to finish replying to an email.
After almost three years together, he was well used to his girlfriend’s grandiose statements, often designed to get a rise out of him.
Cassie Valentine swiveled his chair around and leaned in until her face was close enough for him to see the tiny blue-black flecks in her eyes. Her hands gripped either side of his chair, and she teased his lips with her tongue until he parted them slightly.
“Leave a note for whoever needs to know you’ll be out of the office for a few days. And because we can.”
He shook his head to clear the fog, somewhat disappointed to not receive a kiss. It took him a minute to realize that she’d already moved away and was reaching inside the corner closet for his winter coat and scarf.
“You know what I love about being an attending?” she said without turning around. “How I can take off after morning rounds if I don’t have anything else going on. And not having to fill out time cards. That’s gotta be the best deal.”
Still confused, Ethan stood up, the coat she’d thrown at him clutched in his hand. She started to pack up his laptop, unplugging it from the docking station and unzipping his messenger bag to slip it inside.
“Cassie, will you please stop?” he said, exasperated. And then his eyebrows snapped together. “And no, you cannot just take off after morning rounds even if you’re an attending. The day’s work is just beginning, for Christ’s sake. I taught you better than that.”
When Cassie burst out laughing, he knew he’d been had. She hugged the laptop bag in her arms as she doubled over, tears leaking from the corner of her eyes.
“You’re so easily riled, Dr. Ramsey,” she said, her chest heaving as she tried to breathe through her laughter. “Check your watch, babe.”
Ethan looked down at his wristwatch and saw it was after five o’clock. A quick glance at the twilight outside had him wondering where the day had gone.
“Oh,” he said for lack of anything else to say.
“Oh, indeed. It’s Friday, and we’re off the clock for the next two days. Our bags are packed, and a car is waiting downstairs to whisk us away for a ski getaway. Don’t ask questions; just go on this adventure with me.” She arched one brow and stared at him intently, holding out her hands as fists. “Red pill or blue pill?”
And that’s how Ethan found himself sitting in the back seat of a town car. At the same time, Cassie bubbled excitedly about their plans to return to Dagger Mountain.
“Rodney reserved the same penthouse suite,” she said. “I want to try the Old Serpentine Trail. I was bummed I couldn’t go with you last time. Maybe we can visit the thinking rock, you know, for Picta.”
“I don’t know why you hired a car service,” Ethan grumbled. “We could’ve taken my car. It’s a bit of a drive, and we probably should’ve left early tomorrow rather than risk dark country roads at night. We don’t even have skis or helmets or….”
Cassie ignored most of his diatribe. “That’s why god invented ski rentals. And I never said we were driving to New Hampshire.
Ethan realized what she meant by that when the car turned towards Logan Airport rather than the interstate and drove through a security gate shortly after. He remembered coming here once before when they took a private jet to Ines’s wedding in Hawaii.
“I know you said no questions,” he said slowly as the car pulled up in front of a hanger. People in uniforms milled about. A luxurious helicopter waited not too far away. “But I will need answers before I leave this car.”
Cassie glanced at the driver and nodded. The man exited the car and stood with his back to the door.
“It’s not that complicated, Ethan. We always talk about going skiing but never do. This weekend has perfect weather conditions, so I decided to surprise you. And yes, hiring a car service and a private helicopter is a bit much. But what’s the point of having money if we can’t indulge ourselves once in a while?”
“I get that,” he countered. “But weekend getaways in private jets or helicopters and all this….” He waved his hands to indicate the car and the scene outside. “…is not who I am.”
“Well, it is me, or it used to be once upon a time. Sometimes, I miss being able to say, ‘fuck it, let’s go to Cabo’. There’s nothing wrong with that. Some people find it romantic to be whisked away by their lover.”
Ethan knew he could make several counterarguments, but he wasn’t sure what. It was rare for him to see the Valentine side of Cassie, and a part of him wondered if it was long overdue. Lately, he’d begun to question the differences between them. Perhaps this weekend was exactly what he needed to gain clarity.
“This weekend is my gift to us,” she said, quietly taking his hand. “When it’s your turn, we can rent a Pinto and go on a road trip to Plymouth Rock.”
“I doubt my legs would fit into a Pinto, and there’s not much to see in Plymouth,” he said, holding his hand up when she started to speak. “Forget it. Red pill, right?”
Later Ethan would admit, privately anyway, that there was something incredibly efficient in traveling by air. Within an hour of leaving Boston, they were touching down at a helipad near the resort, a car waiting to take them the rest of the way.
He could still remember driving up snowy and winding country roads as a teenager. Contrary to what Rodney said, Ethan didn’t come up here on vacation but to work. Skiing lessons were an employee perk, and he’d quickly graduated from green to blue.
He tried to keep his hand in, but his studies and then life got in the way. He racked his brain, trying to recall the last time he’d skied. It would’ve been…ah…when they solved Paula’s case two years ago.
“What level are you?” he asked Cassie as the resort entrance came into view.
“Black,” she said without hesitation. “I’m so going to kick your ass out there, babe!”
He smiled in amusement, not really surprised. He imagined someone like Cassie had been skiing since she was old enough to walk. Aspen, maybe Vail every winter, or St. Moritz with the rest of the jet setters.
In another life, their paths might never have crossed.
“Aspen?” he mused in a deliberately neutral tone as they walked into the warm lobby. He wasn’t sure why he wasn’t letting this go. What did it matter now? They were equals and had been for years.
Cassie must have heard the disquiet in his voice because she threw him a considering look. She glanced sideways at the bellman carrying their bags behind them and remained silent. He thought she might not reply, but she waited until they were alone before turning towards him.
“Among other places,” she confirmed, letting her annoyance show. “My mom loves to ski, and my dad loves to sail. Max and I learned how to do both well, whether it was in the Swiss Alps or Bora Bora. Is there a point to this, Ethan? Because you’ve been silently sneering at everything since we left Boston.”
He started to argue otherwise, but Rodney entered from the small office behind the reception area.
“Welcome back,” he said, shaking Ethan’s hand with a smile. “I’m so glad to see you both. Hopefully, no medical emergencies this weekend.”
Rodney checked them in, making small talk with Cassie while Ethan seethed internally. He handed them the key cards, reminding them of breakfast and the amenities. And then, the bellman accompanied them upstairs with their bags. Ethan could’ve carried them, but Cassie didn’t give him a chance, waving at the man to precede them.
By the time the suite’s door closed behind them, Cassie was vibrating with anger. Ethan recognized he’d behaved poorly, dismissing her grand gesture as unworthy.
“You’re an ass!”
“But you love me.”
“Not right now, I don’t,” Cassie bit out. “I wanted to do something romantic, just the two of us. But all of you’ve done so far is ruin my mood.”
“I’m sorry, Cassie,” Ethan said, ignoring her stiff shoulders to wrap his arms around her from behind. “I don’t know what got into me. Let’s start over.”
He turned her around and framed her face between his hands. “I’m an idiot and don’t deserve a girlfriend like you.” He kissed one corner of her mouth and then the other.
“You missed a spot,” she said with a pout.
“My bad,” he whispered softly as he covered her mouth, keeping the kiss light and sweet, seeking forgiveness.
Their foreheads came to rest against each other, and his hands cuffed her wrists.
“I made reservations for a late supper,” she said, stepping away from him. “We should get ready.”
“Okay.”
Cassie grabbed her tote and headed towards the ensuite. She stopped in the doorway, her head cocked as she watched him over her shoulder.
“You know, Ethan, instead of focusing on how different we are, maybe you can try to remember how much we have in common.”
He heard the bathroom door lock click and let out a heavy sigh. Cassie was right. The last few years had proved they were more alike than dissimilar. But still, that inner voice inside him reared its ugly head at the most inopportune times. It had worsened ever since Cassie asked if she could go with him to visit his father every now and then.
Ethan had made himself into Dr. Ramsey, a sophisticated and cultured man who gave the illusion of a wealthy background. Very few people in Edenbrook knew he’d grown up in a blue-collar neighborhood of rundown houses with chain-link fences and weedy yards.
He wasn’t ashamed of his background but felt far removed from it. That’s not who he was anymore and never would be, except when he saw it through Cassie’s blue-blooded perspective.
Hearing the bathroom door open, he shook off the gloomy thoughts and forced a smile on his face. No matter what, he would enjoy this weekend that Cassie had arranged. Even if it killed him.
The following day, Ethan examined the brand-new skis strapped to their feet as the chair lift ascended the mountain. After much debate, he and Cassie decided to buy new gear rather than rent. He saw it as a sign that they’d use them more, maybe returning here or trying out other ski resorts in New England.
Despite things settling down last night, the silence between them was fraught with unspoken words. As they neared the top station, the chair slowed down. They took their skis off the rest, lifted the safety bar, and got into position to slide off the chair lift and onto the gentle incline.
“The Serpentine Trail is off that way,” Ethan said once they cleared the chair lift. “I think it’s more beginner, so it might be too tame for a black diamond skier like yourself.”
“More assumptions?” Her arched tone wiped the teasing grin off his face.
“Cassie…”
“I’m sorry,” she cut in. “That wasn’t very nice of me. Let’s just have a good time. That’s all I want. We can try the Serpentine, and if it’s too crowded or boring, we can switch trails. I checked the map before we left the resort, and there are several options.”
They joined the other skiers, smoothly sailing down the slope and taking a winding path around each other. She laughed joyously as he overtook her, the arrogant smirk he threw her way setting off her competitive spirit. She raced past him, spraying snow at him from the back of her skis.
The crowds made going faster difficult, and she pivoted towards a parallel trail with a blue circle marker before bypassing it to enter the black diamond slope.
Ethan checked his blind spot and raced after her. She was a demon on skis, zigzagging past trees and using short turns to cut through moguls, her excited cries ringing through the air as she gained speed. He watched her expertly leap off an incline and disappear from view.
It took him a few minutes to adjust to the more challenging trail and lack of practice. He stayed upright, barely, through the first mogul but almost wiped out on the second. Deciding to steer clear of them, he moved to the side where the snow was compressed, flat, and out of the way of more experienced skiers.
He was almost at the spot where he’d last seen Cassie jump when the skier in front of him lost their balance. They cried out loud before toppling off the steep incline, head first, rolling through the snow and coming to rest at the base of a tree.
Ethan took the jump cautiously, the doctor in him already starting the count from the moment of impact. He reached the injured skier just as Cassie skidded to a stop on the other side of the tree trunk.
She pushed down on the heel lever with her pole, released one boot, and then the other to step off the skis and crouch beside him.
“Call for help,” Ethan said.
He placed his ear against the open visor and checked for breathing while Cassie dialed the emergency number on the card she’d picked up at reception.
Ethan evaluated the patient for possible injuries and recited what he found. “Patient is breathing but unresponsive. Possible head and neck injury, broken tibia. I can feel the bone pushing against the surface.”
Cassie explained the situation quickly and succinctly, relaying their location and Ethan’s diagnosis before hanging up to help him. She didn’t want to remove the helmet but braced her hands on either side of the neck for support.
“Here.” She took off her scarf with one hand and handed it to Ethan. “The right arm is bleeding. We need to put pressure on it.”
“Observant as always, Dr. Valentine,” Ethan muttered.
“I did learn from the best,” she quipped.
Pushing the sleeve away, he cursed at the long and deep cut along the antecubital fossa. He wrapped the scarf tightly around the wound, the blood staining the expensive material.
“Remind me to buy you a new scarf when we return to the resort.”
“Buy me a drink instead,” she said. “I have plenty more scarves in my closet back home.”
The rescue team arrived shortly. Ethan let Cassie debrief them while he carefully helped load the patient onto a stretcher.
Once they were alone again, Cassie leaned against his side, their arms hooked around each other’s waists. She tilted her head back to gaze at him, laughter making her green eyes sparkle. The tip of her nose was red from the cold, and her lips lightly chapped.
“One of these days, babe, we’re going to come to this resort and not deal with a medical emergency.”
Ethan’s booming laugh and a quick kiss confirmed that he wholeheartedly agreed.
Barbie Princess Charm School au:
There's a law about royal families not being allowed to have kids that are the same age (born in the same year) because of how difficult it makes it to choose a crown prince/princess
Roman grew up never being lied to by his parents, so he knew about how they found him in a basket on their doorstep when he was a baby
Once every year every teenager has to put their name in a raffle (like the hunger games) to get chosen to either be a Lord under a prince or a lady in waiting under a princess
When Roman is 16 his name is drawn to be the lord for the crown prince of the largest kingdom, and he has to start packing his bags to move hundreds of miles away to go to a school to be proper
Like all lords in training, Roman gets a fairy to help him through his lessons. Unfortunately his fairy is a huge emo named Virgil that keeps trying to get Roman to go to the dark side of goth
Roman befriends another Lord in training named Patton with a fairy named Logan
Roman isn't allowed to meet the prince he'll be the Lord for, but he is allowed to met their fairy, a snarky 17 year old by the name of Janus.
Janus obviously knows something, but won't say anything
Eventually, during one of the lords and ladies in waiting balls (it's really just to practice being at a normal ball, but, it's still at night like a ball), Roman, Virgil, Patton, and Logan sneak off to the forbidden side of school and discover that the boarding school they've been going to actually has that half reserved for teaching princes and princesses
When Roman and Virgil are alone on that side they fine a portrait of the prince Roman is the lord for, and are surprised to see that they look exactly the same
Remus, the crown prince, at the time had also snuck out of his practice ball with Janus, running into Roman in the hallway
From that point on Roman and Remus start to understand what's going on, and make plans to meet up 8n secret whenever they can so they can catch up on all of the sibling antics they missed put on as kids
Virgil and Janus are annoyed at becoming glorified messaging birds, and having to keep watch so that no one knows that Roman or Remus are on the opposite side of the school
Finally, the premise of the story, brotherly creativitwins, prinxiety, and Remus basically saying he didn't care about being a prince or becoming king and demoting himself to be a Duke letting Roman take the crown
lv au week, day 2: super heroes
Title: superbloom Fandom: Veronica Mars Rating: PG-13 for content, R for swears (Veronica writes in her feelings journal and really lets those swears go) Pairing: Logan Echolls/Veronica Mars Other Characters: Mentions of Mac and Meg Additional Tags: Secret identity (again?! what?), unnecessary epistolary literature (does a journal count as epistolary?), half-baked world building, a vague understanding of superhero lore Word Count: ~1,075 Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7
***
Again, written solely because @cubbiegirl and @marshmellowbobcat are earth angels. I even added a title this time so that MB doesn’t have to come up with one.
Why did I write this as Veronica’s journal? Mostly because it’s a style which seems to be a fanfic right of passage and I haven’t tried it so...here we are.
I probably owe a lot to other superhero universes and their world building (as in, referring to them as ‘supers’ ala The Incredibles). What are the full extent of Logan and Veronica’s powers? *shrug emoji*
***
Date: February 15 Tracked a low-level Kane agent to a tourist trap bistro in downtown San Diego. Place was packed. Is this the new thing? Shitty men forget to make Valentine’s Day reservations, so they make them for the day after?
Thought I had the guy but when I mistimed my pulse he metamorphosed into a cockroach and scurried away.
Best part of the night was the chocolate mousse I got to-go. Despite appearances within, the food wasn’t too bad.
Date: February 17 Caught up to Cockroach. Real name is Abel Koontz. Slimy guy tried to escape again, but Mac outfitted me with a souped up Morph Choke as backup — emphasis on the choke. Gonna need to recalibrate that a bit, Mackenzie.
Bonus! Forgot it was laundry day, so had to wear my backup uni. Next time I run into Meg out in the field I’ll have to ask her if she can see my underwear through it.
Date: February 18 Finally got around to watching season two of The Boys. Where do they get this shit?
If Piznarski brings up forming some sort of super team for the 7-millionth time at the summit this year, I’m siccing Clayton on him.
Date: February 21 Got into a fight with Mac. Technically my fault.
I faded while in public, and look, I get it.
Being detected while living as my alter would be bad. BUT!! Being forced to interact with my ex as he is on a date with a woman who legitimately looks like she could be my doppelganger is very bad.
Date: February 22 Clarified with Mac: me fading in public did not worry her. Me tripping Leo on purpose as I faded was apparently a problem.
Date: February 24 Cockroach stood me up.
Date: February 25 For all that is good and holy if another fucking cocky cowboy of a super moves to Neptune, I am going to lose my shit. This newest one? Got in my way as I attempted to track Kane, Jr into a warehouse. Fucking Smirky McCowboy stepped in my way and assured me I didn’t want to follow. Something about a dozen armed guards with guns aimed at the door. MAYBE THAT WAS MY PLAN!
(Because, of course the guy ripped a powers page right out of Superman’s book and has x-ray vision.)
(And, his uni? Not hard to tell when a super has money. They’re always the worst.)
Date: February 28 Ran into Smirky McCowboy again. This time outside of a poker game hosted by a real estate developer with connections to Kane. Smirky said it was a coincidence.
Still no sign of Cockroach.
Date: March 2 FUCKING HELL. He beat me to it. AGAIN! How is he doing this?
Date: March 4 Smirky’s name is apparently Logan. Which I learned because I was getting coffee at Willow Grove (just minding my business while covertly eavesdropping on previously mentioned real estate developer) when some guy sat at my table. Unprompted. Uninvited. UNWELCOME.
Mask or no mask, THAT SMIRK.
The more concerning thing is that his x-ray vision apparently sees through the skeletal enhancements Mac wired into my mask, meaning he ID’d me right away.
Date: March 5 Why do they keep coming here? Doesn’t New York have more crime? Go there!
Mac says it’s my fault for busting the Fitzpatricks, outing Kane as the sociopath he is, and helping all those kids find their lost dogs.
Okay, she only mentioned the first two, but I think the third has value.
The point is! these hangers-on need to find their own territory.
Date: March 6 Mac traced at least 70 arrests to Smirky in the Los Angeles area alone. I hate him.
Date: March 10 If he scoops another one of my cases…
Date: March 11 He calls me Supergirl.
He calls me Supergirl and I want to punch him.
Mac says Cockroach’s tracker is still active but the signal is being blocked.
Date: March 13 Saw Meg today. She took down her own parents. Fucking savage. God, I love her. She flew me up to American Plaza and we drank champagne to celebrate.
Oh! And good news! She says my backup uni isn’t see through.
Date: March 13 Woke up with this terrifying thought: can smirky see through my uni?
He wouldn’t...right? I mean...he’s an asshole but I don’t think he’s a creep.
Date: March 16 I punched him.
Not for the underwear thing! He swears he’s never looked and I weirdly believe him.
And I didn’t punch him as much as he walked into a pulse. Yes, fine.
I maybe purposefully put up the pulse to see if his x-ray vision could detect it. But I didn’t tell him to walk into it.
(He can’t detect it, btw. I did it a second time just to be sure.)
Date: March 18 Found Cockroach. Or, I guess I should say Koontz. He washed up on Dog Beach as his alter.
Mac said it could be a coincidence but we both know that’s not true.
Date: March 19 Did I do this? Did I get Cockroach killed?
Date: March 19 Logan has very good alcohol.
Date: March 20 Hangovers. Bad.
Date: March 20 Logan makes very good pancakes.
Date: March 21 Logan has seen me drunk, which means Logan must be destroyed.
Date: March 22 In a certain light, the smirk isn’t so bad.
Date: March 23 Oh god.
Date: March 24 Oh god.
Do I like him?
Date: March 25 I hate myself. I’m a giant cliché. I apologize to all women supers everywhere.
Logan swears he can’t see past the new enhancements Mac made to my uni.
He also asked me to dinner. Was tempted to 1) fade, and 2) run away, but I did neither.
Date: March 26 Adding insult to injury, Smirky McCowboy really knows how to kiss.
Date: March 27 Mac says I shouldn’t be so hard on myself.
Actually, what she said was that neither he nor I are all that pleasant to be around so we might be meant for each other.
Date: March 28 He really knows how to do some other things, too.
Date: March 29 Logan got me a present: surveillance footage of Kane’s mysterious second-in-command with Koontz the night before he was found.
He’s been upgraded to not the absolute worst.
Date: March 29 To be perfectly clear: we are not a super team.
Date: March 30 Logan and I are on surveillance detail tonight.
Maybe I can convince him to stop for some chocolate mousse.
“Do you mind?” Remus grinned as his platforms were slowly but surely nudged off the chair, Logan's nose scrunched in disgust as ze examined the dirt on zir pencil. “Highly unsanitary.”
“It’ll help your immune system.” Long fingers reached over to flick at the pages of whatever book Logan had had zir nose buried in for the better part of an hour. He snapped them back with a yelp however as his knuckles were rapped hard with the pointy end of the No. 2.
“That's if you eat it Remus, and such sentiments are usually reserved for children to placate parents when they can’t keep their spawn from shoving every little thing into their mouths-”
“Well if you wanted to lick my boots Logan you just had to ask.” Remus waggled tiks eyebrows suggestively, grinning wide as the other turned beat red.
“I AM NOT-”
“Logan, honey, volume. And Remus stop being gross we invited you here to study not air our desperation.” Janus’ quiet drawl diffused the situation immediately as both parties screwed their mouths to the side and looked away. Remus heard the librarian huff and stalk away with furious clicks of his heels, no doubt miffed at the missed chance to kick them out for the third time that week.
“Jannie Jan. J-anus. Jan-ass. Jan-assist me with this b-”
“Afternoon Remus. New piercing already?”
Nodding excitedly, Remus leaned over Logan’s books, ignoring the put upon sigh behind him and staring at the redhead with wide eyes. Janus smirked as he watched the other’s eyebrows jump up and down, the fluorescent bulbs of the library catching the two studs placed right at the end of the left brow that morning.
“Looks nice. I like the green.”
“Remus if you keep doing those yourself you’re going to get an infection. Please, I’ve told you so many times I know the tattoo artist down the street, I can get you discount piercings.”
Remus craned his neck nearly all the way around, a manic grin thrown over tiks shoulder as Logan stared at him in horror. “Awe you like meeeeee.”
Shooting Janus the “it’s your turn look” while being bumped repeatedly in the shoulder by Remus’ swaying hips Logan pressed zir mouth into a thin line as the return eyebrow raise of “you owe me for last time” was shot right back. Rolling zir eyes Logan shoved back with zir shoulder sending Remus right back in the chair.
“You.” Logan hissed. “Are going to get us kicked out again. I quite enjoy this library, so take this and for the love of god stay relatively quiet!”
So saying a silicone sword on a string was pressed into Remus’ hands, who inspected the obnoxiously green object for a moment before shrugging and shoving it into his mouth. “Long and thick, I like it.”
The undignified snort Janus didn’t quite manage to cover followed by a shriek as his shins were kicked from under the table was enough to teleport the librarian over to them. Glaring down his nose at the two properly chastised of the group and the one currently grinning like an idiot he pointed aggressively towards the door in a way that dared them to argue.
“Out.”
“Yes ma’am.” Logan and Janus muttered as they collected their things. Remus jumped up with a salute that received an icy glare stern enough to freeze if Remus had actually been paying attention- as it was tik merely swung his pack up and over tiks shoulder nearly hitting the man in the process. A final self satisfied huff and a slammed door later found all three of them kicking pebbles on the sidewalk, put out and annoyed but certainly not surprised.
“Remus, I care for you a great deal but at the moment I would like to yeet you into the road.” Logan turned to Janus slightly. “Usage?”
Ignoring Remus’ giggling, Janus nodded. “It’s correct.”
“We could go to your flat?” Logan asked hopefully, wilting as Janus shook his head.
“Roommates are having their own study session and between Remus’...” Janus paused and watched as the other tried to snap a bug into his book, nearly snapping his nose as tik tripped in the process. “...Remus and my more distracting noises I don’t think we’d be welcome back just yet.”
“They could just wear headphones.” Logan muttered, clearly annoyed.
“Yes well, not everyone understands vocal stims and I don’t want to get into another argument with them about it. I rather enjoy my flat and if I could continue to live in it that would be lovely.”
“I know a place!” Remus jumped suddenly between them. “I found it last week looking for-”
“Remus we are not studying in a graveyard or a morgue or a house you think is haunted. I understand your love of ghosts but-”
“This one’s really nice I promise!” Remus interrupted, giving Logan puppy eyes that had zir rolling zir eyes yet again. “It’s in that weird in between of broken down enough that no one wants it but not enough that the government or whatever wants to step in yet...so I think technically no one owns it?”
“Is that how that works?” Janus turned to Logan curiously.
Logan opened zir mouth to argue, finger already in the “in fact it isn’t” position before pausing to consider. “I- I’d like to say no but I don’t know enough about property rights in this state to argue.”
“In this state?” Janus’ question was ignored in favor of Logan blocking Remus’ book from slamming into zir nose.
“It’s safe?” Janus asked instead.
“Yeah! Well-” Remus mumbled around tiks chewelry, tugging the book out of Logan’s grip and stuffing it uncaringly into tiks bag. “Just don’t go on the second floor I guess...stairs look a bit not great. But! It doesn’t have a basement so the first floor is safe! And most of the windows are broken so it doesn’t smell or anything.”
“....and we’re taking those as good points and moving on. Logan?”
Pinching the bridge of zir nose and pushing zir blue tinted hair out of zir face, Logan eyed the man currently bouncing up and down in excitement and nearly jostling the papers out of tiks open backpack. Smiling fondly ze shrugged. “If it's quiet I don’t see why-”
“Yes! Come on, I know a shortcut!”
Janus and Logan watched as Remus took off at a sprint, using the momentum to throw his pack over the fence and picking up half the papers that flew out of it before hopping it tikself. Scooping most of his things back up he continued running across the residentials backyards and turning out of sight around the far corner.
Holding his hand out Janus smiled wryly. “I know which house he’s talking about, it isn’t far. Sidewalk or yards?”
“The sidewalk is better- I can’t hold your hand trying to hop a fence.” So saying Logan slipped zir hand into the others’, but not before smugly observing his reddening cheeks.
“Sap.”
“No, a flirt?” Holding in his laughter, Janus tugged Logan along, walking faster than normal in the hopes that the wind would cool his face.
-----
“Ta-da!” Remus twirled in the entryway, flinging his bag to the side of the hall as tik did. Sneezing in the resulting dust he quickly shuffled back further into the house. The space had probably been a living room before the previous owners moved, though as it stood now it seemed even the house had forgotten what it once was. Old, warped floorboards held only water damage as memories, groaning and giving slightly when anyone stepped on them. As it was they protested heavily as Remus uncaringly rocked back and forth on his heels, waiting for the others to actually step inside.
“You’re sure this is safe?” Logan cautioned as ze stepped gingerly around a pile of plaster that had long since crumbled off the wall by the door.
“Oh absolutely! Nothing’s fallen on me yet that wasn't already on the floor when I got here.” Tik paused as tik glanced towards the stairs- rickety, broken things that looked like blowing a fan in their direction would collapse them- and winced. “Just...don’t use the stairs. I put my foot through the first one by accident trying to explore the other day.”
“Of course you did.” Janus sniffed, looking them up and down before he stopped to squint at the top. It looked like they led to a hallway that turned a corner to the rest of the second floor, a small window letting in a meager amount of sunlight through the dirty glass. The hallway and resulting corner was shrouded in half shadow that made shapes dance around the edges and goosebumps race up and down his arms. Only half paying attention to whatever Remus and Logan were currently arguing about, he took a step closer to the staircase, back tensing even if he couldn’t make anything out that could be triggering such a response.
Squinting harder he tilted his head trying to get a better angle from his vantage point at the very bottom of the steps. The shadows seemed to shift every so slightly right at the turn of the wall that would lead into the hallway, making him blink and step back in surprise. Hackles raised in earnest now he frantically searched up and down the stairway and everywhere he could see of the upper landing but there was no more movement in any direction. The top of the steps however was brighter now, as if the dirty panes had only been a trick of dust in his eyes. Now it was simply slightly smeared glass- nevertheless letting sunlight through cheerily and letting it shine halfway down the steps- hardly a trace of shadow to be found in what he could have sworn was a dingy landing only moments before.
“Hey Jannie Jan you good? You look like you saw a ghost.”
“...Remus, you’re sure this house is empty? You never heard anything or saw any- I don’t know empty wrappers or anything?” Stepping fully away from the stairs Janus turned towards Remus and gripped the straps of his backpack tight enough to bruise his fingers.
“No, why? I mean- no one else is here. I’ve spent a few days exploring this place and hanging out, there’s just the first floor which is pretty clean other than well,” he gestured around at the wallpaper, plaster and dust littering the floor, along with the broken glass shoved carefully back underneath the windows. “And the second floor I already said I couldn’t get to and I doubt anyone else could even if they wanted to. I never heard anything other than what I think is a mouse or squirrel or something in the wall over there.”
“That doesn’t completely eradicate the possibility of squatters in the building but considering the state of the place I’d say it’s very unlikely.” Logan nodded at Remus before turning back to peer at Janus curiously. “I would assume that was what you were implying, Janus. Are you alright?”
Janus screwed his mouth to the side, considering just dropping the subject or lying to save face somewhat. Just as he was about to snark out something about watching too many of Remus’ cheesy ghost hunting shows, a wave of dread so solid it left him breathless slammed into him. Ice filled his veins and his legs tensed as every reflex in his body told him in no uncertain terms to run before it was too late.
“I want to leave.”
“What, why?” Remus quickly jogged over to where Janus was reaching for the door handle, Logan hot on his heels.
“I don’t want to get arrested for trespassing! And this place-” He turned around and glanced to the stairs again. “It doesn’t feel right. I’d rather brave my roommates.”
“Are you scared?” Remus asked incredulously.
“No!” Whirling around the other man locked eyes with Logan. “You agree with me right?”
Logan twisted h=zir fingers for a moment, not looking at either of them. “It does feel odd I suppose.”
“Then that’s that then! Stay in your creepy house if you want Remus, we’re leaving.” So saying Janus grabbed up Logan’s hand and bag, practically dragging zir out the door.
Remus stood inside the doorway for a moment before tiks shoulders slumped and tik turned back inside. Of course it wouldn’t be that easy to fix them getting kicked out of the library...again. The house was creepy sure but it had been abandoned for who knows how long and was falling in on itself, what had they expected?
Idly he kicked at a loose nail and sent it skittering across the floor towards the stairs. Tik hadn’t ever felt scared in this house- not even when his weight snapped the first step and he thought he’d be stuck in the house until tiks body rotted through the hole he’d made. A less favorable thought sure but not one tik wasn’t familiar enough with to hold it against the house. Huffing he flopped down against the far wall and drug tiks bag over to tik, fishing around for his phone so he could apologize to Janus and Logan and hope they weren’t too mad at tik...again.
He nearly dropped his phone when something bounced off the back of it, clattering to the floor between tiks feet. He leaned forward to see...a nail? Raising his eyebrow tik looked up to the stairs while flicking the nail towards them, searching for the one he had kicked but seeing nothing other than dust. The one tik flicked bounced off the bottom step and spun for a minute before stopping suddenly just a few inches away. Remus slowly lowered his phone and watched it curiously, the hairs on his arms standing in alarm but refusing to eat tikself actually be scared. It was a nail- an old rusty one at that- and the house was old with its windows smashed through. The air currents were probably playing around with-
There was a slight pain in his outer ear and tik flinched to the side to see what bug had bit him. Instead he saw a nail embedded into the wall, still quivering slightly with the force it had apparently been shot with. Swallowing nervously tik glanced back to the stairs searching frantically for the one he had seen not five seconds ago only to see nothing but dust once again.
“Okay.” He exhaled shakily and stood up, pocketing his phone and grabbing up tiks bag. “Yeah, okay. So- ghost right? Listen, I love being nailed as much as the next person but-”
He was cut off with small, unassuming jingling sounds, almost sounding like hail hitting the outside of a window. The sun was still shining brightly however, despite the rapidly declining temperature inside and he began to look around in earnest to make out what the sound was. Tik had always told himself that if tik ever had an experience like this he’d be sure to catch it in camera- and none of the shaky handed blurry footage shit everyone else tried to pass off thank you very much Logan- but at the moment his phone was forgotten in a white-knuckled grip. He watched as bits of glass slid over the worn floors with enough force to gouge the wood, jingling merrily on their way to a rapidly darkening staircase with shadows dripping like black mold from the second floor above.
Tik could do nothing but stand frozen even as every instinct and shred of common sense he had ever had screamed at tik to turn and run while he still could. The glass whirled around a shape in the middle of the stairs, a ball of shadow descending step by step that seemed to stare through him though tik couldn’t see any indication the thing had eyes. His vision tunneled and distantly he was aware tiks breathing had picked up- mildly concerning considering the microscopic pieces of glass ripping through the air- everything narrowing down to this one moment. This one entity that without a shred of doubt in Remus’ mind he knew wanted him dead.
“G̸̮̗̘͔͔̖̕E̴̛͚̣͖͇̗͙̺̭̔̈́̂̀̈́̔̕͠͝͝T̵̨̜̹̲̬̦͕͇͒̓͒̀͑ ̵͕͖̳̱͎͕̝̥̐̉͗̃Ǒ̵̡͎̥̣̳̙̜̜͓̠̲͍̿̐͐̎́̓̽̊͘͘͜͝͠Ṷ̶̢̟̠͙̯̱̝̠̹̪͚̠̽̇̄́͌̔̀̌͠͝T̸͎͐̆̐!̵͉́̅̋̑͑̈̀̈́̄!̷̰̈́̀̑̾͌̊”
The force of the distorted voice rattled the walls and sent plaster raining down onto Remus, who finally felt his legs twitch just as tik felt the first pinpricks of glass against his face. Wasting not a second more he turned on tiks heel and tripped tiks way through the entry hall and out the door, hearing it slam shut behind him as he hopped the fence and took off down the road faster than tik had ever run in his life. Shocked gasps rushed past his lips as tik just kept pumping his legs and let tikself be led on autopilot all the way to his apartment, bursting through the door and slamming it behind him. Heavy breaths filled the short hall and he slumped to the floor, mildly surprised when his phone thunked to the floor in front of tik.
“Holy shit.” He whispered, tiks head thumping heavily into the door behind him.
“Holy fucking shit.”
