Our latest publication in Psychology of Sport and Exercise is with Dr Ségolène Guérin of Université du Littoral Côte d'Opale (France), Layan Fessler of Grenoble Alps University (France), Luke Howard of Xyla Health & Wellbeing (UK), Calum Pinto Brunel University London, Tobi Ojuri Brunel University London, Joy Kuan Brunel University London and Kristian Samwell-Nash Brunel University London.
‘One-HIIT Wonder’ uses a HIIT protocol to explore the efficacy of music in the context of supramaximal exercise and ensuing periods of active recovery. The findings show that across a range of psychological, psychophysical and psychophysiological outcomes, scientifically-selected music is largely ineffectual in a HIIT protocol.
It is the case, however, that the presence of music throughout the protocol (i.e., supramaximal exercise bouts and periods of active recovery) elevates state motivation when compared to a no-music control.

10 Empowering Strategies for Enhancing Mental Wellbeing: A Holistic Approach to Happiness
Tumblr media
Mental health is the cornerstone of our overall wellbeing, influencing how we think, feel, and interact with the world around us. In today's fast-paced, often overwhelming society, prioritizing mental health is crucial for living a happy, balanced, and fulfilling life. In this article, we'll explore 10 effective strategies for improving mental health, providing you with a comprehensive toolkit to nurture your mind, body, and spirit.
Strategy1: Practice Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness and meditation are powerful tools for calming the mind, reducing stress, and increasing self-awareness. Regular practice can help you stay present, focused, and grounded, leading to improved mental clarity and emotional balance.
Strategy2: Engage in Physical Activity
Exercise is a natural mood booster, releasing endorphins that enhance our mental wellbeing. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety, depression, and stress, while improving sleep quality and overall health.
Strategy3: Connect with Nature
Spending time in nature has a profound impact on our mental health, reducing stress, improving mood, and increasing feelings of calm and relaxation. Take time to appreciate the beauty of the natural world and reconnect with the earth.
Strategy4: Foster Meaningful Relationships
Positive relationships are vital for our mental wellbeing, providing support, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Nurture your relationships with family, friends, and community, and prioritize building strong connections.
Strategy5: Practice Gratitude and Positive Thinking
Focus on the good things in life by practicing gratitude and positive thinking. Reflect on your blessings, accomplishments, and joyful moments, and reframe negative thoughts into positive affirmations.
Strategy6: Take Breaks and Prioritize Self-Care
In today's fast-paced world, taking breaks and prioritizing self-care is essential. Make time for activities that bring you joy, relaxation, and rejuvenation, and prioritize your mental health.
Strategy7: Harness the Power of Professional Support
Mental wellbeing deserves the same expert attention as physical health. Consulting a mental health professional is a brave and proactive step towards recovery and self-improvement. Don't hesitate to seek help when needed – it's a testament to your resilience and determination.
Strategy8: Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is crucial for our mental health, influencing mood, energy, and cognitive function. Prioritize getting enough sleep each night, aiming for 7-9 hours of restful slumber.
Strategy9: Engage in Creative Activities
Creative expression is a powerful tool for mental wellbeing, providing an outlet for emotions, thoughts, and ideas. Explore your creative side through art, music, writing, or other activities that bring you joy.
Strategy10: Cultivate Inner Kindness
Treat yourself with the same kindness, understanding, and patience that you offer to a dear friend. Practice self-compassion, acceptance, and self-love, and celebrate your unique journey. By embracing your authenticity, you'll foster a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you.
Conclusion Mental health is a journey, not a destination. By incorporating these 10 effective strategies into your daily life, you'll be empowered to take control of your mental wellbeing, cultivate happiness, and live a fulfilling life. Remember, prioritizing mental health is a sign of strength, and seeking help is always available. Embrace your journey, and shine your light for the world to see.

The Science Behind Weight Loss: Understanding Calories and Metabolism
Introduction:
Weight loss is a complex process influenced by various factors, but at its core, it boils down to the balance between calories consumed and calories expended. In this post, we'll delve into the science behind weight loss, focusing on the role of calories and metabolism in shaping our body composition.
Calories:
The Basics of Energy Balance At its simplest level, weight loss occurs when you consume fewer calories than you burn. This creates a calorie deficit, prompting your body to tap into its fat stores for energy. Conversely, weight gain occurs when you consume more calories than you burn, leading to a calorie surplus, which is stored as fat.

Understanding Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs to maintain basic physiological functions at rest. Factors such as age, gender, weight, height, and body composition influence your BMR. While you can't change your age or gender, you can increase your BMR by building lean muscle mass through strength training and staying active.
The Role of Physical Activity in Weight Loss In addition to your BMR, physical activity plays a crucial role in determining your overall calorie expenditure. Activities such as walking, running, cycling, and strength training not only burn calories during exercise but also elevate your metabolism, leading to continued calorie burning even at rest.
Balancing Macronutrients for Optimal Weight Loss While calories are king when it comes to weight loss, the quality of those calories also matters. Balancing macronutrients – carbohydrates, proteins, and fats – in your diet can help you feel satisfied, maintain muscle mass, and support overall health. Aim for a diet rich in whole foods, including lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats.
The Importance of Consistency and Sustainability Consistency is key when it comes to weight loss. Rather than focusing on drastic short-term measures, aim for sustainable lifestyle changes that you can maintain over the long term. This might include meal planning, regular exercise, mindful eating practices, and finding healthier alternatives to your favorite foods.
Conclusion:
Achieving weight loss requires a combination of understanding calories and metabolism, adopting a balanced diet, staying active, and maintaining consistency in your efforts. By creating a calorie deficit through diet and exercise and prioritizing nutrient-dense foods, you can achieve your weight loss goals while supporting overall health and well-being.

Sports And Fitness Apps: Vital for Physical and Mental Well-Being
Sporting activities play a crucial role in the holistic development of an individual. Being physically active not only keeps our body fit but also impacts our mental health positively. Regular exercise releases feel-good hormones called endorphins that combat stress and improve our mood. It also helps in developing self-confidence, team-working skills, and leadership qualities at a young age. Sports teach us valuable life lessons like fair-play, discipline, time management that stay with us throughout our lives. Encouraging children to participate in games and physical activities from a young age develops healthy lifestyle habits that last into adulthood.

Struggling with Your Golf Swing? Here’s Why You Might Be Sliding Instead of Rotating! ⛳
A proper golf swing is all about stability and power. But if you’re experiencing a “slide” instead of a smooth rotational movement, your body may be holding you back.
🔎 Cause: Here are key reasons behind the issue- ✔ Reduced Left Hip Internal Rotation – Limited mobility here can prevent proper weight transfer. ✔ Spinal Stiffness – A rigid spine restricts fluid movement, reducing swing efficiency. ✔ Decreased Ability of Dissociation – Difficulty separating upper and lower body movements leads to unwanted lateral shifting. ✔ Reduced Strength of Gluteus Medius – Weak hip muscles limit stability, forcing compensation through sliding.
💡 What Can You Do? A personalized physiotherapy approach can help restore mobility, strength, and control for a powerful, pain-free golf swing!
