This is an unplanned sequel to September 2023's Patreon thank you image request! Part one (here) was requested by Charles Fisher, and this one was requested by Mason Collie! He requested a prompt that was very similar to what I did for September last year without realizing it, so when I offered doing a follow-up instead, he accepted. :3
As you can imagine Nes is very unimpressed!

Orphie Rose was always a quiet little duckling. While his siblings quacked and peeped, Orphie struggled to make a sound. Whenever he wanted to communicate with his parents or siblings, it turned into a guessing game of charades. His family would tilt their heads, trying to figure out what Orphie needed—was he hungry? Tired? Sad? It was always a bit of a mystery.
Things stayed this way until one sunny afternoon when Auntie Tigris came to keep him company. Tigris was a graceful and clever duck, presented at duck shows in creative gowns, known for her curiosity and love of dance. After watching Orphie for a while, she noticed something interesting—whenever he wanted to express himself, his tiny webbed feet would shuffle and tap on the ground in rhythmic patterns, as if he were performing a little dance.
Tigris had an idea. She gently took Orphie aside and showed him how to turn those taps into a tappy dance—a special way to communicate without words. At first, it was just simple rhythms—one tap for yes, two taps for no—but soon Orphie began to learn more intricate patterns to express how he felt. His little feet, which Goosey fondly called his “cheese feet” because of their yellow hue, became his voice.
————🪿✨
Day by day, Orphie grew more confident in his tappy dance. He would tap out soft, gentle rhythms when he was feeling shy or sad, and lively, upbeat dances when he was excited or happy. His family was amazed by how expressive Orphie had become, especially Goosey Gray. No longer did they have to guess what their little duckling wanted; Orphie could now “talk” to them in his own unique way.
As time passed, Orphie’s tappy dance became not only a form of communication but also a beautiful way to connect with the world around him. His cheese feet tapped out stories, feelings, and dreams if they didn’t took him other places in a speedy way. All thanks to Auntie Tigris and her keen eye for helping Orphie find his own voice—one tap at a time.

By now, there's lots of people have heard about the internal CDC memos for all newly prepared manuscripts (like future scientific papers waiting to be published):
Tumblr media
There's so much to comment on, and I'm seeing it all right now. What the state of science is. What this means for the queer community. All of that.
But fuck, I think I might genuinely start crying over this. As a transgender biologist, this feels like a brutally personal blow. I slowly accepted my gender alongside my biology education. The more misinformation that was spewed about "biological sex" by mainstream media, the more my professors, colleagues, and primary sources would casually drop information that proved they have no idea what they're talking about. I'm not an expert on sex determination, gender, or transgender biology specifically by any means. But my worldview has been crafted by my studies in genetics and molecular biology.
Engaging with this research helped me demystify transition. It helped me optimize my transition. It helped me explain how HRT and other steps of trans healthcare work to other people. And it helped me overcome my own internalized transphobia, and finally start transitioning, despite knowing I wanted to since my preteen years.
Who knows how enforceable internal guidelines like this will be. But its certainly going to scare a lot of researchers away from transgender healthcare and science in the coming years, and that breaks my heart.
There's a lot I can say here, but fuck. I just needed to vent for a moment. Fuck.

got a worm nibbling my brain. can someone help me find a piece of obscure media?
webcomic/indie comic from the 2010s. basically a sci-fi short story about a young girl (with red hair?) who was being raised by scientists as part of an experiment. she receives a haircut/has her head shaved, in preparation for her annual brain scan/testing. it is revealed that while her body is human, her "brain" is artificial, made of computer implants throughout her skull and spine. at some point her biological mother (also a scientist on the same campus?) encounters her and is repulsed, viewing her as a machine who has murdered her daughter.
it was very poignant and it bruised my heart and i can NOT find it anywhere
