Law Novel to be released in German!

Couple months ago, I read a fantranslation of the Law Novel and was certain that it would never be translated into German because of its dark themes.

Apparently I was wrong!

German Manga publisher Carlsen just announced its release in August 2025! (German Instagram post)

I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this, excited for one, but also apprehensive. They put the age of the novel at starting with 12 and I have feeling that's too young and desperately hope that they won't change the content to match the rating.

Yes! Treats are absolutely accepted and encouraged in this exchange! I'll add a note about it in the FAQ section as well. Please do have fun writing or drawing for the ideas that people are submitting!

You can also aim to match with a specific participant during the matching process, by gearing your offers to something specific they asked for. Just be mindful that you will be matched via one relationship tag + one additional tag, so make sure to only offer to write something you are genuinely willing to write (in the case that you aren't able to match with the participant you're aiming for).

Who Wrote That?!

Hello! This is a Host and Player's guide on how to play 'Who Wrote That?!', a writing game for all ages! What is 'Who Wrote That?'? It's a game played with a minimum of 4 players or more. The players submit excerpts based on a prompt to the host and then have to guess who wrote what when the host releases them later. Whoever has the most points at the end is the winner!

Rules for Players

If there is one, please read the 'Do Not' list that any host gives you. This ensures that everyone has fun and no one is secluded because someone wrote something that triggered them.

2. Write an excerpt based on the prompt in the given timeframe. If you need an extension, ask the Host! More than likely, they will work with you. After all, the more the merrier.

3. Try to keep to the word limit, if there is one. Writing too much could out you just as much as writing too little. If you feel that your excerpt may be too long or too short, ask the Host if you may need to edit.

4. HAVE FUN! You can keep any writing that is too long and post it later or even continue the story if you wish! Odds are the plotbunnies will have made themselves home anyway :D

How to Host

Hosting is just as fun as playing! You get to read all the lovely juicy fun words and then see everyone gush and lament on the excerpts and their choices between submissions! The Host is the person/people who organize the rounds and keep track of the points. They also are the ones who post the excerpts for the players to read during guessing time and post the reveals round by round after voting is closed. It can seem daunting but it's a lot of fun!

There are two ways to play: A long game and a short game.

On average, a long game is considered a word limit of 1k or higher with a short game being about one paragraph or 300-400 words. Your game length will vary on the number of players and how long the excerpts are.

First, as the Host, pick or come up with a prompt. Try and find one or make it, open-ended so that the authors can really make the prompt their own! For example:

Danny gets trapped in a spellbook. He binds himself to whoever touches him next. The only way to release the bind is by either freeing Danny or doing so many things the book says (which the book is blank and Danny can control what is in it). Shenanigans

This is the first game we played! Its short but vague enough for the players to go off on their own interpretations.

Second, figure out the timeframe that works as best for you as it does with everyone else. Unfortunately due to timezones, you may not be able to have everyone online for the live voting or reveals. But that can be remedied a bit by giving time for people to be there.

A long game normally goes Tuesday-Friday for prompt submissions, Saturday is dedicated to voting, and Sunday will be the reveal!

Short games can do the same as above but maybe at hour intervals instead. 2-3 hours for submissions, an hour for voting, then reveal! Third, once you have your prompt and time frame, now it's time to let players know! Make a post or @ your friends so that they can play!

Fourth, collect all of the submissions in a Google doc and then organize the submissions by round order. That way you aren't digging for a prompt through Discord messages or google docs. It's all ready to go!

Fifth, when you have all of your submissions, it's time to make a Google form! Make an assessment and create as many questions as there are rounds with the players' names as the answers. Make sure to turn off 'shuffle option order'

Because this will move all the answers around and that is unnecessarily confusing.

Next go to settings and make it a quiz! But turn the other options off

Turning off missed questions, correct answers and point values makes it so the players don't see what they got after they submit their answers. They won't know until you reveal it all at the end! Now all you have to do is wait for voting time!

Sixth, Now it's time for the players to vote and they get to gush over what they are reading while chaos begins. Post the excerpts at hour intervals to give the players a chance to discuss among themselves. This is where they will try to throw the other off the scent of their work or try sus out the author. It's a lot of fun to watch :3

Lastly, reveals. Once voting is done, you can go into the Google form and see how everyone did! Calculate the points and figure out if you have a winner! When you have the points calculated, release the results of Who Wrote That one round at a time. Reveal who the author of that excerpt was along with who all got it right! Continue this by giving some time between results so the players can tease each other until all of the reveals are done and you announce the winner!

Disclaimer: Google docs is mainly mentioned because most of the games have been running via co-hosting. With google docs, we can share the excerpts that both of us have gotten easily to one another. However, if you are hosting on your own, then any doc program should work just fine.

Linked Universe Big Bang 2023 - Infomercial and General Rules

What is a Big Bang?

A Big Bang is an event in fandom where authors write a fic and are paired with artists who create art to go with it. These pieces are posted at the same time/together, reprising the older zine tradition of writers and artists collaborating for fandom.

How can you participate? There are three ways you can join the LU Big Bang: as an author, an artist, or a beta.

Authors will write a fic, artists will make fan art for that fic, and betas will provide the invaluable service of editing said fic if requested.

What counts as art? If you are an artist participating in this event, there are a lot of ways that "count." You can do traditional, digital, moodboards, banners, a piece of embroidery... as long as it is a visual piece of art that goes with the fic you are paired with, it counts!

Minimum Word Count: The absolute minimum word count for fic is going to be 5k. It can be a one-shot, or a multi-chapter fic. It can be 7k or 200k, whatever your heart desires. As long as it is at least five thousand words, and done by the deadline, it counts.

Can I write in a language other than English?

Of course you can! As long as you are able to communicate with your artist in whatever language to get the collaboration done, I fully endorse fanworks in the native languages of the authors.

LU-centric: This event is for the Linked Universe fandom. That means that all art and fic must fall into the greater umbrella of the LU.

That being said, if you want to write something that is entirely about one member of the chain, or only features three of them, that is completely fine. AUs are allowed. Crossovers are also permitted, as long as the focus is our beloved Links.

Go crazy. Just stay in the fandom.

Ratings: Go nuts. Fluff, angst, any and all archive warnings and ratings are permitted. Write G, write E, write whatever speaks to you. That being said, y'all better be tagging responsibly. Artists will be asked when filling out their signup sheets if they are comfortable creating art for certain ratings/warnings.

Original Works Only: All entries for this event must be original to this event. That means that authors can't add a few chapters to their current WIP and call it a day. And artist cannot decide that an existing project is close enough and make edits. The point of this is to create an explosion (or a BIG BANG if you will) of brand new fanworks.

Authors: this is the perfect excuse to dust of those plotbunnies and flesh them out.

Collaboration: This is a collaborative event. We are celebrating our love for the Legend of Zelda franchise, the Linked Universe, and the Chain together. That means that you have to keep in contact with your partner, and complete the two check-ins with me (the event organizer) so that everyone has a good time working together to make something beautiful.

Beta Reading: As someone who chronically posts without a beta, I am not going to enforce having one. That being said, this event will have a beta sign-up, and I strongly encourage taking advantage of our kind volunteers. Or use your own regular beta. Or live that "no beta, we die like men" life. You do you, I guess.

For those of you interested in volunteering to beta read, please, feel free to do so. There will be a sign-up for you wonderful, beautiful, selfless people.

Hosting: All fics will be hosted on Archive of Our Own. You are more than welcome to post them elsewhere as you so desire in addition, but the "homepage" for the event will be an Ao3 collection. If you are an author who wants to participate but does not yet have an Ao3 account, I recommend signing up for one now. Last time I checked, the wait list was about a week. Not bad. Paired art-pieces can be hosted anywhere that the artist chooses, as long as it is linked/attached to the corresponding fic.

Posting: Since a majority of the fandom is currently going though whumptober/flufftober/linktober, and I know how Nano can be, I am looking at a late early december post date.

That being said, when we do get to posting, there will be a couple of hard-fast rules. Fic will be posted with the art and a link to the art hosting page/artist. Art will be posted with a link to the fic. The point of this is that they go together, after all.

Support: Please reach out to me. Send me a message/ask for the tiniest thing. If you think that someone else already asked it, it's fine, I will answer it with a link to the other answered ask. This is not the first Big Bang or Reverse Bang that I have run, so no matter what the question is, I am sure I have heard it before. Ask it. It's fine.

Also, reach out to your fellow artists and authors. The point of events like this is to make friends, so go on! Talk to people!

Extensions/Deadlines: The point of this event is to create an explosion of content on one set date. That being said, I know that life happens. Words can be hard. The muse can abandon you, and leave you bereft of the ability to finish the work.

This is where that communication thing comes in. If you make sure that your partner and the mod (that's me, hi) knows that you are just running behind, then all is forgiven. That being said, do try to meet the deadline. And those who have not completed their work for this event will not be allowed to participate in the next event I run (if/when) that occurs until said work is completed. It wouldn't be fair to your partner otherwise.

I have 3 stories & recipes in this, which will be released on 11.10 (with AO3 collection opening a week or so later). Checking the latest proof rn - somehow all 3 stories ended up with post-canon Jin Ling as a focal point, which is not how the plotbunnies started hopping! #FlashlightMethod

(It turns out that I have Jiujiu in a different background pairing for each one 🤭 -- Jiang Cheng/Wen Qing power couple who like the purple sweet potato pancakes cooked by b&b proprietor Sizhui; JC/NHS established relationship with a DC condo Jin Ling flees to after a borked mission; and, in "From Soil, Silt, and Sky," a period piece set 9 years after JL becomes sect leader, LXC sends a plea to the other juniors to help manage JL while JC's bedridden. The third one's beautifully illustrated by @taiyakii-yaki - I'm thrilled by the art and can't wait for you to see it!

Shade of My Enemy (LoZ Twilight Princess era graphic novel AND prose adaptation because I am ridiculous. Mature and dark but clean gothic canon-compatible Zelgan with potential for post-canon trio)

To Draw New Mischief On (LoZ OoT/Majora. Rated for violence and dark themes. Capstone accidentally epic novel for the Branches and Fate cycle. Platonic Link & Ganondorf: the hero stole the destined prince of darkness from the birthing room and hid both him and his magic from the whole world.m, hoping to save everyone this time. This mostly works… right up until he meets Zelda and she refuses to trust him unless he brings her the kokiri emerald, which sets Destiny in motion again. Polyamorous with a side of Zelgan, but the romantic elements are C plot at best.)

Monstrous Depravity (LoZ, Twilight Princess) A canon-compatible smutty AU of SoME. A side project started with the explicit intent of torturing my cast until they give me words again for their main projects damnit. Currently converting outline to prose in chapter 12 of 20 but I have 20 finished and 19 almost finished because my brain is just not accepting linear storytelling right now for Reasons which no doubt contributed to us being in this place to begin with. Zelgan focused polyamorous orgy with Size difference, monsterfucking, extended RACK play, angst and drop and suicidal ideation, hurt/comfort, persuasion, sex drugs, temporary character death, love confessions, like… the kitchen sink would be in there if I find a way to shoehorn it

Foreman to a Hero (LoZ, spinoff of Mischief) Follows a minor side character who works for Link in his guise as an architect and follows him is small, slice-of-life moments traveling in tandem with the events of Mischief. Teen at most for dark themes and swearing

How many writing projects do you have?

(If anything, I don't just mean ideas, I mean full-blown projects-when you already have a plot, have characters, and just need to finalize the details and write the whole thing.)

1. do u prefer writing one-shots or multi-chaptered fics?

one-shots bc i have commitment issues and not enough time on my hands 😭 i have so many mutli-chapter ideas that will never be written lbr. also like, idk i like exploring characters and such within a smaller time frame, it makes things more interesting imo.

2. do u plan each chapter ahead or write as u go?

oh def write as i go. which is probably why i dont do multi-chapter rip. the only time i've planned it out is with an unfinished work i'll never finish.

11. link ur three favorite fics right now.

okay! wasn't sure if this meant of mine or other people's so i did the latter (specifically in the pjo fandom). amicus certus in re incerta cernitur by aknosde, body gold by cruel highways, & unfinished pile by fuckin_rodent (specifically the chapter linked bc it's kind of like a one-shot collection.)

16. how many fics are u nurturing right now? share one of them?

okay so i have a whole bunch of plotbunnies/ideas/one or two paragraphs of fics, so ignoring all those and the fics i have unfinished and posted, i narrowed it down to all the individual docs i had (as opposed to the complete collection of random snippets i have) i have like 25. so yknow. somewhere between that and maybe 100.

19. what is ur most-used tag on ur ao3?

just looked thru them all it's either angst or hurt/comfort

20. have u noticed any patterns in ur fics? words/expressions that appear a lot, themes, common settings, etc.?

i feel like commas and em dashes are like my besties fr. and parentheses, depending on the fic. common settings are kinda obv since i write for the same fandom. i feel like i kinda take one sentence and then write a paragraph following that isn't really connected but also kind of is? tbh it's usually a trauma dump lmao. i also use actually and really excessively, my grammar hates me for it.

49. do u ever get rude reviews and how do u deal with them?

i don't! the closest thing i've ever gotten close to one is a comment w a lot of helpful constructive criticism (im actually writing a second chapter for the fic they gave it to me on to hopefully resolve some of it).

How often do you write?

Actually write write? Maybe once a week. However I'm constantly jotting down plotbunnies, notes, lines of dialogue or description. I almost never write chronologically, which is why I find it difficult to sit down and write a lot in one piece. I also edit and rewrite a lot, which is very time consuming.

What’s your favorite tropes/pairing?

Pairing should be obvious. So aside from Gendrya, I've started watching House of the Dragon and I'm mostly shipping Daemon x Rhaenyra, but I like Rhaenyra's other ships too.

Trope wise, I'd say (childhood) friends to lovers.

Do you have a favorite fic of yours?

K*nk in the South (have to redact the word to not attract any bots) is definitely very special to me. The latest chapter of my one shot collection is always my favourite as well.

Your fic with the most kudos?

My one shot collection too good to be true at 450.

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

For a long time, I felt it was too ... clean and too short (see my total word count above) for prose because I taught myself to be as concise as possible for writing academic assignments and that has definitely rubbed off on my creative writing. But with my more recent stuff I feel like that's gotten better.
