Tuesday morning workout and #noexcuses are allowed! I asked my daughter if she was ready to do “our” workout and she ran into the living room and jumped up and down on the mat. She knew that I was turning on #barreblend and she was pumped and excited. This is what motivates me, my children. Moving with grace ladyism looks like this for me #BecauseImALady. Being a strong mom with a little one introduced into this world and not stopping my lifestyle of working out and being healthy for anything or anyone. Yes I'm busier than ever but life continues on which makes me a strong woman that loves to move with grace. It's life changing having a child and I'm so grateful to have this experience. As a result, I consider this moving with grace interacting with my baby as I exercise. Babies like faces under the age of 1 and movement and jumping around can only help the excitement! I exercised my entire pregnancy, had a wonderful delivery (minus the obvious pain lol), and have a very alert little baby getting into everything. 4 pelvic floor tips for new moms Tips 1 and 2: Protect and Support “The forces from below must equal or exceed the forces from above or the organs will start falling.” Jeanice Mitchell, myPFM -This is not meant to scare you. This is meant to increase your awareness about the pelvic floor and pelvic organ prolapse. -Oh I wish I would have know that just because I COULD lift multiple things simultaneously (baby, car seat, diaper bag, purse etc), doesn’t mean I SHOULD have lifted multiple things simultaneously (until my PFM was strong and enough and coordinated enough to engage with activity). -Immediately postpartum, the pelvic floor muscles are in a very vulnerable state. -Let’s give them time to heal by protecting them by minimizing the forces from above (lifting, straining, bearing down) and maximizing the support from below (supplemental perineal support, compressive but flexible apparel etc.). Tip 3: Assist -Gravity is the force that keeps us grounded. -Let’s use gravity to unweight the pelvic organs and put the pelvic floor on slack by “tipping” the pelvic floor upside down! -Imagine how much easier it would be to squeeze the pelvic floor without the weight of the pelvic organs and the force of gravity pushing down. Tip 4: Squeeze -Try performing this on your own with these tips and others in our library. -If unsuccessful, a pelvic floor therapist can help guide you and coach you. 4th trimester: we recommend ALL postpartum moms have a pelvic floor therapy evaluation, regardless of symptoms. This can help identify potential issues and prevent other issues from developing. Most insurances in the USA cover this. In many countries, pelvic floor rehab is standard after giving birth. Pelvic floor rehab can help train your pelvic floor muscles to do the right thing at the right time! Is postpartum pelvic floor rehab available where you are? Were you offered it? Did you receive it?
