The past tastes like oranges and coconut cream, and Kai has left it behind.

Kai forgets why they’re making a stop over Ignacia, but it just so happens that the nearest rural area place for them to moor is over the Valencia groves he had nearly forgotten about. 

He stands at the front of the ship, leaning over the railing with his chin propped up on his pillowed arms to study the trees extending in every direction, the dark leaves bejewelled with not-quite-ripe January oranges. The sun overhead is more of a pale, cold disk, and Nya is somewhere below-deck, but it makes him melancholy anyway.

Footsteps approach from behind him—heavy but soft: Cole. He leans over the railing beside Kai, bracing his forearms against the wood as he surveys the landscape. “Hey. Whatcha doin’ out here, stranger?”

“Just lookin’,” he murmurs back. He hums to himself. “Did you know I used to come to this grove with my family as a kid?”

“I didn’t even know you liked oranges,” Cole replies, giving him a sideways glance. He smiles when Kai glances back, dark eyes crinkling. “Do you want to go down now? I’m sure we could grab a few and no one would miss ‘em.”

“Nah, that’s alright,” Kai says with half a grin. “They’re not ripe. And I don’t like oranges that much anyway. Too hard to peel. They just made me think about—things I hadn’t let myself think about for a while.”

“What kind of things?” Cole asks, nudging him with an elbow.

The touch grounds him and he’s grateful for it. He shrugs in a way that’s neither here nor there. “Just things. Home, I guess. My life? Before all the...ninja stuff.”

“Is that a good thing?” Cole tilts his head. In this light, his eyes turn from obsidian to sunlight through whiskey as he waits for an answer.

Kai makes a contemplative noise. “I don’t know. Hurts less than I expected, after everything. It’s bittersweet.” He sighs then, shoulders falling with the motion. “It really is making me miss oranges, though. I don’t know why I lied before—I really do like them.”

He looks back at the groves below and misses the look Cole gives him—measured and curious.

“What about you, do you like oranges?”

“Some. The sweet ones.”

“You’d like these ones, then,” Kai tells him, cheeks rising as he smiles. “The oranges from Ignacia are the biggest, sweetest ones around. They’re good just by themselves, but my mom made a mean ambrosia with them.”

“I bet Zane could replicate the recipe if you told him what it was,” Cole replies.

Kai just shrugs. “Maybe so. He’s sharp like that.”

They fall silent. Kai can physically feel Cole worrying about him and his rare bout of melancholy, so he squares his shoulders and musters up a grin. “Hey, Cole, you—,”

“You don’t have to,” is what Cole interrupts him with, paired with a weighted look that settles around him like a blanket. “I don’t mind the quiet. You’re allowed to, Kai.”

All the feigned bravado drains out of him. Kai stares at him for a second and wonders when Cole got so good at gauging his moods. There’s so many words unspoken inbetween what he says and that earnest, draping look in his eyes and Kai kind of aches with it.

“Okay,” he says instead, shoulders slowly falling. His chin dips to rest on his crossed forearms again and he leans into it when Cole slips as arm around him. “Okay.”

The nippy January wind dances around them, stirring their hair and whipping at their gis, but Kai tips his head against Cole’s shoulder and feels warm down to his toes.

“Holy crap, what the hell did you do?” Kai can’t help asking a week later, as Lloyd and Zane walk into the kitchen carrying groceries.

“There was a sale on tangerines at the grocery store,” Zane answers primly, setting his paper bag on the counter. “I thought it prudent to take advantage of it.”

“We have like a hundred pounds of these things,” Lloyd adds, setting his own bag down. “We’re going to be eating tangerines until we get old and grey.”

“Zane, man, you know I love a sale as much as the next guy, but this is a little overboard,” Cole says as he comes in, two more bags of tangerines hoisted on his shoulders. Kai does not stare, thank you very much, as much as he’s been finding it kind of hard to avoid when it comes to Cole and lifting things recently.

“Proper intake of vitamin C is important in preventing scurvy,” Zane replies, though he’s blinking the way he does when he’s getting embarrassed. “It’s a common illness in sailors.”

“Does that still apply  if the ship can fly?” Lloyd wonders.

“Or if we’re in the twenty-first century?” Kai adds wryly, eyebrows high.

“I’m sure we’ll find some way to finish them all,” Cole pipes up. “Don’t worry about it, Zane.”

“I was not.” Zane turns away to put away the rest of the groceries while Kai and Cole exchange an amused look. As he bustles back and forth, Kai grabs a tangerine from the bag behind him and turns it over in his hands, studying the way the light catches on the dimpled rind.

“Hey,” Kai says quietly, leaning across the kitchen counter. “Did you do this?”

Cole just shrugs with a crooked grin. “I didn’t do anything. You know Zane and sales. Can’t resist ‘em.”

“You did,” Kai deduces, eyeing his teammate’s reddening ears. He feels his expression soften. “You didn’t have to.”

“Maybe I wanted to,” Cole says in response. He reaches over Kai, coming very, very close, until their noses are close enough to brush. His eyes are very dark and very close and Kai would very much like to kiss him right now.

“Um, uh,” Kai says, very eloquently.

“Not in the kitchen, please,” Zane calls from the pantry, because he hasn’t a romantic bone in his body (or any bones, to be fair to him).

Cole just grins and pulls back, displaying the tangerine he’d grabbed from behind Kai with a flourish. “I’m heading to the training deck. See you around, Hot Stuff.”

“R-right,” he mumbles (like an idiot), fighting the heat settled in his cheeks. He watches Cole go and feels distinctly like an opportunity has sailed over his head.

Cole smells like oranges these days.

Kai only notices because that isn’t his normal smell, which is much more organic soaps and something earthy and fresh. It’s a smell that clings to the hoodies Kai keeps pilfering from his closet—comforting in its familiarity. 

The abrupt invasion of tangy citrus makes him do a double take the first time he smells it. And then he reaches into the pocket of the hoodie and finds a tangerine. It’s store bought, with a little sticker on the side, and it’s not exactly a strange sight for any reason, but it sort of confounds him.

“Hey,” he says, walking into the kitchen, the object of confusion held gingerly in his hand. “Is this a tangerine?”

Cole looks up from where he’s making a sandwich and raises an eyebrow. “Is that my hoodie?”

“I asked first,” Kai replies quickly, before he has time to pink up.

“I mean, yeah, five points for powers of deduction,” Cole says cheekily. “Congratulations, it’s a tangerine. We gotta finish them somehow, don’t we?”

“I—yeah,” Kai says absently. Cole holds out a hand for it and he tosses it over wordlessly, before he even thinks too much about it.

“You said they’re hard to peel, right?” Cole asks, digging his nails into the rind. He peels it in the shape of a flower and then splits the orange in half with his thumbs to hold out to Kai. “Here.”

Kai looks down at the segment being offered to him in an open palm and then back at Cole with his earnest, crinkly-eyed smile, and feels something stutter fatally in his chest.

“Thanks,” he manages to say, as his heart cracks open to let sunshine stream all in, filling his ribcage with warmth.

He bites into the fruit and feels his mouth fill with juice and thinks about how his mother used to peel oranges when he was too clumsy to and then about how Cole leaves tangerines in the pockets of the hoodies he knows Kai will steal and peels them for him in the shape of a flower, even though it turns his nails all yellow. He thinks of it so hard he forgets to make a face that doesn’t show about seven years of adoration on it and when he looks back at Cole, he’s already looking back with realization blazing across his expression.

“Kai?” he asks, voice wavering as his throat bobs with his nervous gulp.

“Yeah,” he agrees, and then grabs Cole by the collar of his shirt and kisses him, soft and open-mouthed, across the kitchen island. He’s so filled up with sweet oranges and sunlight and the heat of Cole’s skin that he forgets to even be afraid of this, as much as it’s frightened him in his fantasies. He stops being afraid of it altogether when Cole sighs into his mouth and cards a hand through his hair.

When they finally draw back, Cole’s pupils are blown huge and dark and he’s looking distinctly Kissed with a capital K. Kai would very much like to continue that endeavor.

“You taste like oranges,” Cole chuckles as he tugs Kai around the island to pull him closer.

You taste like home, he wants to say, but then Cole leans over him to cup his jaw and kiss him breathless, and Kai decides to let it go unspoken. There are more important things to attend to.

In the early summer, Cole and Kai negotiate with the others for a three-day vacation in early June. They drive in a rented car to the Valencia grove outside Ignacia and pick enough oranges to last the ship for weeks. Cole boosts him on his shoulders to help him reach the huge oranges at the tree tops and they laugh the whole time, chasing each other through the orchard and trading citrus kisses. Kai wonders if it’s possible to burst with happiness.

“I’m sick of eating oranges,” Lloyd complains when they come home bearing the (literal) fruits of their labor, newly sun-tanned and smiling.  

“Really?” Kai tilts his head, considering. “Seems to me like I can never get enough of ‘em.”

“Was that some sort of romantic metaphor?” Lloyd asks with a wrinkled nose. “Gross.”

Cole laughs from where he’s watching and sidles up from behind to rest his big hands on Kai’s hips. 

“Yeah,” Kai says affectionately. “Gross.”

“Not in the kitchen,” Zane calls from the next room, but Kai just leans back against Cole and closes his eyes to drink in the moment.

It’s worth it, he decides. All the fighting. All the losing. All the danger. It’s worth it to eat oranges in the kitchen with people he loves.

“What are you thinking about?” Cole teases, his voice rumbling low in his chest against Kai’s back.

“Nothing,” he says with a smile, opening his eyes. “I just love oranges.”

Naruto oneshot: In an au where Naruto and Sasuke got taken in by Kakashi at a young age, and where Sakura never developed a crush on Sasuke but became friends with them instead, the fight against Zabuza goes a little differently.

He can’t move. Part of him knows that's a problem. Part of him knows that's a big problem.

Most of him is panicking.

He’s going to die. He’s going to die right here and right now.

He can’t die here, he still needs to kill that man except how stupid is that, thinking he could ever be strong enough to defeat his brother because he’s weak, pathetic, not even worth fighting but he’s worth killing because that’s what’s going to happen, Zabuza is going to kill him and he won’t be able to do anything about it –

“Sasuke.”

Sensei’s voice snaps him out of his thoughts.

“Sakura, Naruto,” Sensei continues, and even with the mist ruining most of his vision, he can see that Sensei is giving them a determined look. “I will protect you.”

Just like that, he relaxes. Because Yamato-sensei is sending out Positive Intent to counter Zabuza’s Killing Intent, an absent part of him realises.

“Protect them?”

Zabuza’s voice, low and menacing, seems to come from everywhere at once. It makes him tense up again in an instant, panic back in full force.

“You can’t even protect your client.”

And then Sensei is throwing a kunai and Sakura is moving – kicking actually, she’s kicking Zabuza’s leg because Zabuza appeared behind Tazuna and is about to kill him, except Sakura’s kick, despite being panicked and sloppy, ruins his balance enough that the kunai finds its mark, digging into his stomach.

Water gushes out instead of blood.

“Or yourself.”

And then Zabuza – the clone near Tazuna bursts into water, and then Zabuza is behind Sensei, too fast for Sasuke to do anything but watch as he swings his sword – it slices through wood and Sensei is behind Zabuza and slitting his throat with a kunai but water gushes out again and Sensei is ducking beneath Zabuza’s sword because Zabuza appeared behind him and then they’re fighting, disappearing into the mist too fast too follow and part of him is aware of what Naruto is doing but mostly he’s panicking again because he doesn’t know what to do –

“Summoning–”

Naruto aborts his summoning with a panicked yell, forced to leap out of the way of a kunai flying almost too fast to dodge, the mist making it even harder to spot.

And suddenly he can move again.

He darts forward and grabs some shuriken and wire, hiding the wire in his palm and positioning himself so he can cover Naruto. Sakura started to do the same but she fell back when he moved, grabbing a kunai instead and giving Tazuna a quick glance. Because they need to cover him as well. Right. He’d forgotten about that.

“Naruto, get rid of the mist,” he says, mind racing as it didn’t before.

They need to get rid of the mist before anything else. He can hear Sensei and Zabuza fight, but the sound is distorted, impossible to pinpoint even a general location. Trying to spot them is just as useless. The most he catches are fleeting shadows, and the perspective is all screwed up. The only thing he’s certain of is that he’s between Zabuza and Naruto and Sakura. Mostly Naruto because he’ll be vulnerable while casting his technique, but if it’s something worse than kunai, he can cover Sakura as well.

First things first. They need to get rid of the mist. Right now they’re sitting ducks.

Naruto races through hand seals. This time there’s no attempt to interrupt him. Is Sensei preventing Zabuza from doing that? Or does Zabuza not think it worth the effort to interfere unless Naruto tries to summon the pack?

“Wind Release, Concussive Gale!”

Naruto spins around with his arms spread wide, ruining the attack power of his jutsu but allowing him to blow the mist away from all sides.

Zabuza and Sensei are closer than expected. Sensei has gotten a sword from somewhere – unsealed it? – and is using it to redirect Zabuza’s own, deflecting the huge blade just enough that he - has to - can slip past it. They’re exchanging blows almost too fast to follow and Sasuke is thinking, is trying to come up with a plan but everything he thinks of is useless.

It's unfair how fast Zabuza is moving, how fast his sword is moving.

And then Zabuza moves way too fast - punch, kick? - and then Sensei's sword is broken and Zabuza is kicking him away, kicking him towards the lake actually but Sensei lands on the shore instead. Sasuke is so relieved. Mist nin means water is a kill zone.

Instead of going after Sensei, Zabuza rests his sword on the ground in a way positioned to propel him towards Sensei. But he doesn’t look like he’s about to attack. Instead he looks... considering? Sasuke thought he could only look evil.

“ANBU, huh?” he asks, sounding almost normal despite being still so scary as well. Same as when he ‘politely’ introduced himself. “No wonder I haven’t heard of you.”

And that’s when Sasuke registers his actual words.

Sensei is ANBU? That explains why they couldn’t find him in Kakashi’s bingo books.

“An impressive deduction,” Yamato-sensei says calmly. Like this is just a normal conversation and not, you know. A battle to the death.

Zabuza lets out a derisive scoff. Zabuza ignores the way it makes all three of them twitch.

While Zabuza starts talking, Sakura lets out a pointed noise. Sasuke realises she’s looking at him in a way that means she wants him to come up with a plan. He should have noticed that sooner.

He’s distracted from planning because of the talk happening.

“Not really. You tree lovers are a disgrace to swordsmen everywhere. Fight one and you’ve fought them all.”

“I suppose that to a former Swordsman of the Mist, we must seem subpar,” Sensei says and Zabuza’s eyes narrow. The movement was quick, caught only because he is standing still, but there was annoyance there, maybe even anger. And it appeared when Sensei called him a former Swordsman of the Mist.

Despite now really not being the time, Sasuke can’t help a burst of humor. Seems the Demon of the Hidden Mist can dish out trash talk but can’t handle getting it returned.

“You know what else you tree lovers are known for?”

Every bit of humor disappears when Zabuza looks at them, another wave of Killing Intent threatening to make him freeze.

“Sentiment.”

Sasuke hears Sensei start to chant – earth technique, he thinks – but he's busy with spinning around and throwing his shuriken, though he doesn't know why he’s doing it.

He’s doing it because he caught a glimpse of Zabuza – another clone? – about to attack Sakura.

Sasuke is so glad that Sakura is already dodging. With a squeal. An absent part of him realises she was being weirdly quiet before.

Naruto has grabbed a kunai and is slapping on an explosion tag while moving forward to support her, and Sasuke is grabbing more shuriken and doing the same but then an earth spike forces Zabuza away – must be a clone, it’s moving slower than the real one – and he stops to reassess. The spike catches some of his shuriken – sloppy throw, need to work on that – but others get through.

The clone dodges both shuriken and new spikes that keep shooting out of the ground. Sensei’s technique forcing the clone away from them. Sakura takes the opportunity to yell at Tazuna and drag him away from the hot zone and into a slightly more defensible position. Tazuna stumbles along, wild eyed, deathly pale and clutching his bottle of sake like his life depends on it.

The clone is still being forced back, and with Tazuna out of the way, Naruto can use an explosion tag -

“Sensei!”

Naruto’s yell makes him jerk his head back – stupid, shouldn’t have taken his eyes off them completely! – just in time to see that Zabuza is about to engage Sensei in close combat again, taking advantage of his grounded position. Sensei can’t lift his hand from the earth without cancelling his technique.

Naruto throws his kunai and in that situation that’s risky. Except it turns out it isn’t because Zabuza uses the tip of his sword to alter its trajectory, the kunai flying away before Naruto can detonate it.

The earth behind him makes a noise different than that of a spike shooting out, making him glance back at the clone – can’t forget about it, it can still go after Naruto and Sakura – he sees it dissolve into water, impaled by razor sharp protrusions sticking out from the last earth spike. Then he sees Zabuza engage Sensei from the corner of his vision and quickly aims his full vision back.

Sensei is on the defensive. Without his sword, he isn’t capable of deflecting Zabuza’s blade, meaning he has to dodge every hit. Sasuke thinks Sensei might still be getting in his own attacks but it's hard to tell over needing to see him dodge, dodge, dodge!

“What do we do?” Sakura demands and alright, what do they do? Taijutsu is out, and Sensei and Zabuza are fighting too close together to use big techniques or explosion tags. And while an illusion might be able to distract Zabuza a little, the odds are too low to base a plan around it, even with him and Sakura casting one at the same time. There’s also the fact that they can’t leave Tazuna unprotected, meaning if the two of them cast an illusion, Naruto will need to cover them and Tazuna both. With an opponent like this, that isn’t a one man job.

They need the pack.

“Naruto–”

He cuts himself off. If Zabuza interfered before because Naruto was trying to summon, telling Naruto to do it out loud would be a big mistake.

He’s just about to use hand signals instead when Naruto starts racing through the seals needed to summon the pack. That makes things easier.

Unfortunately, Zabuza reveals that the reason he interfered before was indeed because Naruto was trying to summon. Kunai fly through the air – one, two, three, four – almost too fast to follow.

Almost is all he needs.

He attaches wire to his shuriken and throws them. Snapping his wrist, he uses the wires to ensnare the kunai and make them go wide. A rush runs through him when he succeeds.

The rush is obliterated when another clone appears behind Naruto – just how many are there? – making Naruto abort his summoning and Sakura is moving to support him and so is he – an earth spike shoots up and impales the clone, making it burst into water.

Zabuza kicks Sensei onto the lake.

This is bad. This is very bad.

Zabuza is already running after Sensei while Sensei twists around so he’ll land upright on the water, and Zabuza moving too fast for him to cast a technique so he throws more shuriken instead, and Naruto throws a tagged kunai and Sakura is racing to cast a technique, racing to cast an illusion but it won’t be enough, and Sasuke is frantically grabbing more shuriken, doesn’t know what to do, only knows he needs to buy Sensei enough time to get off the lake!

Zabuza dodges his shuriken without even looking at them and grabs Naruto’s kunai in the same movement, throwing it away at them before Naruto can detonate it. Sakura casts her illusion to no effect.

Sensei lands on the lake - is pulled under the surface, completely submerged just as Zabuza reaches him and no, no, no – wood shoots out of the water. Zabuza leaps back to avoid getting skewered, looking shocked but Sasuke is far more focused on Sensei, back on the surface and blurring through hand seals too fast to follow.

“Wood Release, World Of Trees Wall.”

The earth shakes as countless branches shoot up, weaving together almost too fast to follow. And then there’s a wall in front of them, hiding Sensei and Zabuza from view. A wall made of tree branches. Behind it, earth rumbles, wood groans and leaves rustle on a scale he’s never heard before.

Sasuke vaguely realises that he’s gaping. Given that Sensei is using the Wood Release, he thinks he can be forgiven for that.

There’s a deafening roar – water, an absent part of him identifies – and suddenly part of the wall is being torn apart by that water – not aimed at them, their position out of the kill zone – and he hears Naruto and Sakura scream, screaming for Sensei he thinks but the noise is making it hard to tell – and then it’s over. Water rains down, leaving behind broken branches and what is a deafening silence compared to the noise from before.

The branches start moving. Receding into the ground like they were never there. The only evidence left is a scarred terrain.

Sensei is standing on the shore. Sasuke almost runs forward but he catches himself. So does Sakura.

Naruto doesn’t.

“Naruto!”

Sakura’s yell makes Naruto halt.

“Tazuna,” he adds, reminding Naruto of their mission.

Naruto is terrified and panicked but then he becomes fiercely determined. He quickly falls back, preparing not one but two explosive kunai.

Sasuke adjusts his own position to one that will better let him protect Tazuna, his senses straining and his shuriken ready to be used. Sakura completes the formation.

Tazuna still looks wild eyed and deathly pale. He’s shaking, his breathing is way too fast, and he’s clutching his sake bottle like it’s the only thing holding him together. But he doesn’t move as they position themselves around him. Good.

The formation they take on lets all three of them see Sensei, though only from the corner of their vision in his and Sakura’s case. While Sasuke does his best to keep watch of their surroundings, he can’t help but keep most of his attention on Sensei.

Sensei signals the all clear.

They run.

Sasuke skids to a halt in front of Sensei and frantically inspects him, looking for injuries and only absently aware of Naruto’s and Sakura’s panicked babbling as they attack Sensei with a hug.

Yamato-sensei is drenched, making it difficult to see if he’s bleeding. Naruto and Sakura being in the way isn’t helping. Sasuke is pretty sure that Sensei isn’t bleeding, though. His clothes are damaged and one of his sleeves is torn off, but there are no cuts on any of the skin he can see. Bruises, a lot of bruises, but no cuts. And he isn’t holding his weight like a really painful wound, meaning a really serious one, would cause.

There is a very deep gash on Sensei’s forehead protector, uncomfortably close to an eye. But there’s no broken skin.

Sasuke lets out a harsh breath, dizzy with relief. Sensei is fine.

He realises that he’s closed his eyes and is leaning against Sensei when he feels Sensei’s hand on his neck, a chakra not his own whispering over him. He also realises that Naruto’s arm is beneath him. Because Naruto is still hugging Sensei.

“I’m unharmed,” Sensei says in a soothing voice, making him relax even more. Naruto lets out a sob of relief, and when Sasuke opens his eyes and looks at him, he sees that Naruto has buried his head in Sensei’s stomach and is crying. Sakura is standing on his other side, hugging Sensei just as tightly and crying as well. Sasuke feels his own breath hitch and tears fill his eyes, and he suddenly wants to hug Sensei as well. He wants it so much.

He realizes that he can’t. Because he already has a death grip on Sensei’s pants. Apparently he put his weapons away so he could do that.

For some reason, he can’t let go.

“Zabuza and his associate got away,” Sensei continues in that soothing voice, letting go of him and laying his hand on top of Naruto’s head. His other hand is touching Sakura’s neck. Taking her pulse, Sasuke suddenly realises. Probably checking for injuries too, given the chakra he felt. “The danger is over.”

Sasuke starts crying. The danger is over.

Naruto puts an arm around him and pulls him close. Sasuke hugs him back. He’s trembling.

He’s scared.

Yamato-sensei strokes his hair. This time there’s no whisper of chakra.

It’s still comforting.

It takes a while before they can stop crying. But they manage. They open their eyes and look up at Sensei.

They don’t let go of him.

“You did well,” Sensei says in a warm and proud voice, but now that he’s no longer so scared, Sasuke realises that something... something is wrong with Sensei. “All of you did very well.”

“...So everything is okay now?” Naruto asks, not at all comforted by Sensei’s words. Sasuke understands why.

Yamato-sensei’s face is completely blank as he looks down at them. Not unreadable like he often is, normally he has an air of... of something.

This time there’s nothing. It’s creepy. Very creepy.

“Everything is okay now,” Sensei assures them in an even warmer voice. It would’ve been comforting if not for the way he was looking at them.

“Then why do you look...”

Sakura falls silent, not knowing how to say that Yamato-sensei looks... he looks wrong.

Sensei lets out a soft ah, sounding as if he’s realised something.

He smiles. It’s warm and comforting and really weird to have him look normal again without warning.

“Did you just...”

Naruto looks like he can't believe what he's seeing and also kind of like he wants to laugh.

“Yamato-sensei, did you forget how to smile?”

What kind of question is that? Obviously he didn’t forget that. Did he?

“It doesn’t happen often,” Sensei says like there’s nothing weird about forgetting how to smile. Sasuke looks at Naruto and Sakura, unable to believe what he just heard. They look back with the same disbelief.

He snorts.

Naruto bursts out laughing and so does Sakura, and then he’s laughing as well and they really shouldn’t be laughing. Sensei almost died, they almost died so there really is nothing to laugh about.

But Sensei forgot how to smile.

He laughs harder, vaguely aware that Naruto and Sakura are getting louder as well.

They fought Momochi Zabuza, the Demon of the Hidden Mist. They found out that Yamato-sensei is ANBU and that he possesses the bloodline of the First.

If Ben’s Aliens Were Their Own Characters (Part 2: Alien Force + Ultimate Alien)

Part 2: The Electric Boogaloo.

Sometime in his teens, Ben decides that it’s unfair to only set some of his aliens free and with the help of Azmuth, re-creates the glitch from part 1 in order to bring out the rest of them too.

The compound the alines have lived in until now needs to get expanded again to make room fro 24 new family members.

With the help of Grandpa Max, some plumbers (and a very reluctant Azmuth) they eventually manage.

Swampfire: Haughty and arrogant. He suffers from a major inferiority-superiority complex due to the fact that he feels being one of the aliens who did not manage to get out of the Omnitrix by themselves makes him weaker somehow. Thus he has an intense, but often one-sided rivalry with all off his “older” siblings, especially Heatblast since their powers are the most alike. Ironically, the two of them make a really great team in battle, if Swampfire manages to keep his ribbing in check for five seconds and Heatblast in turn manages to not rise to the bait for once.

Jetray: A tough, no-nonsense hero. He takes his job as a plumber very seriously and has no patience for his siblings’ childish antics, though he gets caught up in them fairly frequently. He’s more of a scout than a fighter but that doesn’t mean you can afford to underestimate him.

Echo Echo: A music lover through and through, but also a little anti-social. He spends most of his time in his room listening to music from every corner of the galaxy and even composing some of his own sometimes. It’s usually dubstep. You’d best have some earplugs ready when stepping through his door, because he often forgets that not every species has eardrums of steel like he does. It’s a miracle the house hasn’t come down yet.

Goop: Perky, friendly and just downright adorable. Nothing really gets him down (except maybe snatching his anti-gravity device, but why would you? Why would you??? You Monster.). Actually getting on his case is ill-advised, though. He will mess you up if you insist on keeping up whatever bad thing it is you’re doing right now. All while chattering and giggling excitedly.

Humungousaur: The strong silent type. It’s not that nothing gets to him, it’s just that he doesn’t think he has much to say. Which makes it all the more baffling when someone happens to reach his breaking point (hurting his family) and he just goes ballistic, roaring and throwing punches, kicks and tail-swipes left and right. He’s the literal definition of calm before a storm.

Big Chill: He somehow manages to be the Mom Friend and super chill at the same time. He’s a good listener and great at giving life advice, but he also won’t hesitate to use his snark to call someone out on their bullshit. He’s sassy, enjoys quiet places, cool nights and meditation.

Brainstorm: Extremely snooty and thinks he’s the smartest of them all. He is not. That would be Grey Matter, but good luck trying to tell him that, you’ll either be ignored or called an inferior being in some way. Secretly, he just wants Grey Matter to acknowledge him as an equal and prove his worth as a great mind.

Alien X: Like in the show, Alien X doesn’t really talk or do much, because Serena and Bellicus won’t let him most of the time. Occasionally they release him from their on-going debate so he can at least spend a little time with his family. When he’s himself, he’s a composed, intelligent, charming individual. As a result of being essentially a prisoner ins his own body 90 % of the time he’s terrified of waking up one day and finding himself being alone, because the world moved on while he was forced to play referee to his split personalities. In order to help him at least a little bit, Grey Matter and Brainstorm (with a little help from Upgrade) in a rare act of cooperation, modified his room to notify either of them when he’s about to wake up, so they can inform the rest of the family and they can all welcome him together. He appreciates it immensely.

Chromastone: Sophisticated and responsible. He tries not to let it show, but he feels really pressured by his role as Sugilite’s successor and doubts he can actually live up to his role as a guardian of Petropia. He’s especially nervous and awkward around Diamondhead, since both of them don’t really know how they should treat each other. Diamondhead hesitates giving Chromastone orders in battle, despite being the leader, because shouldn’t Chromastone take that role? He’s the guardian after all. Chromastone on the other hand struggles with actually taking command. Diamondhead is older and has been the leader far longer than him, so should he really be handing him the reigns? As you can see, it’s complicated with these two.

Nanomech: Did somebody say Napoleon complex? He’s smaller than even Grey Matter, yet if you listen to him boast, you’d think he was the galaxy’s mightiest fighter. To be completely honest, his arrogance isn’t that unfounded: If he actually gets over himself and fights smart not hard by using his height to act as a saboteur or spy he’s crazy dangerous. He’s always eager to help whack some bad guys and apart from the above mentioned ego problem, he’s a nice little guy. (Tho if you want to stay on his good side, don’t mention the “little” part where he might hear.) His origin of having been part of a malevolent hive mind once is something that bothers him immensely and  a huge part of the reason for him acting like he does. He wants to stand out and for everyone to think he’s a mighty hero, because he doesn’t want to be seen by others (or himself) as still part of the Swarm or even just less of an individual because he technically used to be part of it. Mentioning the queen is a sure-fire way to make him uncomfortable, because it’s a nagging fear of his that she’s still out there and that he’ll fall under her control one day. He has rather graphic nightmares about that, which he of course keeps to himself.

Spidermonkey: Energetic, upbeat and very talkative. Your typical hyper-active monkey-character, with a fair amount of mischief on the side. He, Ripjaws and Ditto hit it off right away. Beware, for together they are the ultimate (pun intended) prank trio. For Spidermonkey, everything is essentially one big joke. Even fights he takes more as an opportunity to have fun than an actual job. When you hear him stop laughing it’s usually a sign just how serious a situation is.

Lodestar: Competent, but really emotional and clumsy. He’s the ‘New Guy’ in every way. Really wants to prove himself, tends to lose control of his powers and as a result often pummels himself or his teammates with all kinds of metal stuff and/or literally loses his head, also can’t help acting overly hammy. His magnet powers are tied to his emotions, causing all kinds of crazy things to happen whenever he’s upset. Which, considering how much of a klutz he can be, is often. He never means to cause as much ruckus and chaos as he does, but the universe in general just seems to have it out for him in that regard. He often spends time with Big Chill, since the latter is often the only one with enough patience to properly train him and is always there to hear him out.

Rath: LEMME TELL YOU SOMETHING, PERSON READING THIS ENTRY ON A TUMBLR POST!! RATH DOESN’T NEED SOME FANCY-PANTS TUMBLRITE TO WRITE HIM A PERSONALITY! RATH ALREADY GOT A PERSONALITY! IN FACT, RATH’S GOT SO MUCH PERSONALITY, I COULD RIP SOME OUT OF MYSELF, THROW IT AT YOUR FACE AND STILL HAVE SO MUCH LEFT I COULD WRITE THIS WHOLE ENTRY MYSELF!! (He’s also got a huge soft-spot for children and his family, but don’t expect him to admit that.)

Armodrillo: He’s not very smart and, despite being really big and really strong, he gets scared very easily. Essentially a big friendly child. His siblings don’t like taking him on missions because even though he can be destructive as heck when in action (or maybe exactly because of that) he doesn’t even like fighting. He just does it to defend himself and others, but his drilling powers and invincibility is often crucial. They always make sure at least one of them stays by his side throughout the whole thing to act as a sort of guardian, though.

AmpFibian: Extremely shy and introverted. Talking to strangers is not his thing. His first instinct when meeting or seeing someone new is usually to book it into the nearest electronic device and stay there until he’s sure they’re safe to be around. He probably had the hardest time out of all the aliens to adapt to his new life out of the watch. Even in present day the only one of his siblings he’ll occasionally hang around with is Echo Echo and even then they don’t really talk much. They just both share a liking for electronic music, so they’ll mostly just listen to that whenever AmpFibian feels brave enough to leave his room.

ChamAlien: The definition of Creepy/Chaotic Good (yes, even more than Big Chill and Ghost Freak). He’s....hard to read. He has this grin on his face 24/7, as if he knows something that nobody else does and the fact that he really seems to like appearing where no one expected him to be doesn’t help. He also doesn’t talk much, only when he thinks the person he’s addressing needs to hear what he has to say.

Clockwork: He’s the detective of the family. Mainly because of his ability to recreate past events, but he also has some rather impressive deductive skills. He and Grey Matter often act as mission control, though Clockwork works in the field as well more often than not. He’s not much of a fighter, but his time powers give him an advantage or two.

Fasttrack: You’d think he’d be a loud bundle of uncontrollable energy like his older brother XLR8, but you’d be wrong. Yes, he’s fast but that’s about the only thing he and XLR8 have in common. Fasttrack is serious, confident, mature and focused, never slacking off on a mission even for a moment. Honestly, he could be considered Diamondhead’s right hand if it weren’t for Frankenstrike. He also utterly despises being mistaken for his moronic speedster sibling and saying or even hinting that the two are alike will get you on his bad side. He has a rather dry sense of humor that often comes out when he’s partnered up with one of his less mission-focused family members.

Jury Rigg: For the love of all that is holy, keep him away from machines! He is an absolute menace around them, either because he doesn’t know how they work, yet still fells the need to mess with them or precisely because he knows how they work and just wants to try and “fix them up” to reach their “full potential” as he calls it. Said potential is often explosive, of course. He and Grey Matter are basically at war because he won’t stop touching Grey’s stuff without permission or stop trying to get into his workshop. He doesn’t mean anything by it, he’s just so naturally hard-wired to be a maniac around technology that he can’t help it. If you manage to pry him away from that, he’s actually pretty low-key, sensible, even. Currently, he acts as the familys’ armorer. It’s his passion. Anything he built is sure to give the bad guys (and sometimes the good guys) a run for their money.

Shocksquatch: Looks scary, but he’s a really big softie. That doesn’t mean he won’t pummel bad guys into the ground, though. Ironically he gets along the best with Wrath of all people. Mostly because they’re both huge wrestling fans and enjoy fighting as a sport. The both of them often spar with Four Arms and Cannonbolt. The record is currently tied, but they’re working on that.

Terraspin: Good-natured and slow movement-wise. He’s friendly to the point of being a doormat, which often leads to some of his siblings, like Upchuck, taking advantage of him. Unsurprisingly, he gets along the best with Upgrade, Wildmutt and Goop. Goop sort of looks out for him and keeps the whole “Do my chores” thing that Upchuck has going with him in check. A very harmless and completely hypothetical joke about tongue-burning acid is all it takes to put a stop to it most of the time. Terraspin is grateful for it.

Water Hazard: The rugged, charming rogue of the group. He does his own thing and doesn’t exactly play by the rules. He can be reasonable, but where’s the fun in that? He and Heatblast do not get along, possibly even less than Swampfire and Heatblast. It may be due to them being opposite elements, it may be because Heatblast secretly fears Water Hazard may take his place as the ‘Cool Big Brother’ or it may just be the fact that Water Hazard won’t stop dousing him in water for no good reason. Who knows?

NRG: Loud, dramatic and really big on physical affection. He’s an enthusiastic hugger, which, combined with the fact that he wears his containment suit at all times, often results in tremendous pain for the hugged. You could say it’s compensation for the fact that he can so rarely actually touch things/people because, y’know...they’d literally die. He enjoys every moment out of his suit, flying around giddily and shouting even more than usual.

How They Met

Rating: NSFW, but mildly so.

Words: 3,055/ MSR/ AU ( but could conceivably fit into cannon)

Prompt: A story/an au. Mulder and scully met at her fbi academy graduation party. They talked and flirted, and has a couple of drinks together. They had sex in the back patio of where the party was taking place. She writes down her number for him. He kisses her under a street lamp with his fingers on her clit. On his way home, he drops the slip of paper with her number. He kicks himself mentally for months. He could hardly remember her name, too. Until she walked through his office door.

May 1991

The party is in DuPont Circle, at some swanky hotel that Mulder doesn’t care to know the name of. He feels uncomfortable in the Tuxedo that Diana insisted that he wear. This is not his scene. He is not good at circulating, at talking to people. Diana drug him here, she wanted to support a friend of hers that was graduating. Things between them had been difficult ever since he found out about her transfer to Europe. He wonders if they can even last through that kind of long distance relationship. Diana is better at the social mechanics of a party. She  flutters easily from group to group, dispensing her steely charm. Mulder both admires and resents this about her. He hangs just outside the double doors that lead into the ballroom, watching the scene, but not participating in it.

“Quite the wallflower, aren’t you?” a young female voice says.  

“No, honestly, these kinds of parties aren’t really my thing,” he turns to face her. She smiles wide, and well, Mulder feels almost blinded. Truly awestruck.

“Funny, I used my extra sharp powers of deduction to figure that one out,”  she says dryly with a raised eyebrow. There is an intelligent glint in her wide blue eyes. Mulder doesn’t know why, but he is immediately drawn to her. It could be her dry wit, but more likely it’s the the tight lacy black dress she is wearing. She’s slight, almost a full foot shorter than he is. Her hair is a deep shade of auburn, and pulled up in a twist, a few curls frame her face. She’s stunning, of course, but not his usual type.

”Personally, I always preferred a quiet drink to these kind of fancy swareys, anyway,“ she says smiling.

“Well, I suppose we are alike that way.’ Mulder glances over to see that the bar’s mostly empty now.

“Do you want to grab a drink?” He asks her.

“I suppose so,” she says with a smirk. They walk to the bar in lock-step, his tuxedo sleeve brushes against her arm. He doesn’t tell her about Diana.

They are a few drinks in. A tendril of hair slips out of her updo, he tucks it behind her ear, and she leans into his touch. He can’t deny the spark that crackles between them.

“You know that you are supposed to congratulate someone when they graduate, right?” the young woman says teasingly.

“I think I missed that lesson in finishing school,” he smirks towards her.

“Smart ass,” she pushes his arm playfully.

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he says leaning in towards her. He loses all sense of time and space when he looks into her eyes. His heart swells in a way that it never has for Diana, not even at the beginning of their relationship. Diana. Mulder realizes that she hasn’t even bothered to come looking for him.

“I think that you are also supposed to introduce yourself when you meet someone new,” she says dryly. At this point they have already talked about her stint in medical school, and how she was recruited by the FBI. He told her about his time at Oxford, and his work profiling. Names seemed almost perfunctory.

“Is that right?” he deadpans.

“But I have also deduced that you are hopelessly socially inept, so I suppose I can let it slide, but just this once,” Her eyes are shining, and she is right, he is hopeless.

“Fine,” he smirks. “I’m Mulder, uh, just Mulder,” he says emphasizing his last name.

“Well, Mulder, I’m Dana, it’s nice to meet you,”  She reaches her hand out for a customary hand-shake. When he takes her hand, he feels chemistry and biology. He leans in closer to her, smelling a faint hint of her perfume, something clean, citrus. Their faces are close, and she dips her chin a bit, lingering close to his lips. He closes the distance between them, a stolen kiss. The second their lips touch he feels an electricity pulsing between them.

“The pleasure is all mine,” he whispers against her mouth.

After a few more drinks, they are drunk, and desperate for each other. They find a private patio a few floors up, where they can be alone. The door is locked, and he searches his pockets for an implement to open it with. Dana pulls a pin out of her hair, and hands it to him.

“Ah, resourceful, I like that in a woman,” he chuckles. As he drunkenly struggles to jimmy the hairpin in the lock, he hears her laughing.

“You look like you could use some help,” Dana giggles.

“Usually, I’m better at this,” Mulder says cursing his current lack of finesse.

“Well, I would certainly hope so.”

Finally the bolt turns and and the two of them stumble outside. It’s springtime, and D.C. is magical, white cherry blossoms flitter through the night air. They are several stories up, and he can see the Capitol Building all lit up. Dana is luminescent, otherworldly almost. The alcohol streaming through his blood, and the freshness of spring air heighten every touch between them. They kiss again, and again, and finally her tongue slides against his like velvet. Mulder drinks her in, the taste of alcohol on her tongue feeds his own intoxication. Dana breaks first.

“Uh, I’m not usually in the habit of kissing strange men that I just met,” the breeze teases the curls around her face.

“Me either,” he jokes, and kisses her again. As drunk as he is, there is not a thought of Diana, or his life with her. There is only Dana, and the way she feels in his arms. She presses against him tighter. It feels right. His fingers find her nipples through the lace of her dress, and she sighs into his mouth. Soon he has her smashed up against the gray stone in a dark corner of the patio.

She clumsily unbuttons his pants, reaches her hand down to grab his now burgeoning erection. He hisses at the feel of her small hand on his member, stroking up and down.

“Do you have a condom?” she asks.

“Uh, no, actually, I don’t, uh, usually do this kind of thing,” Mulder says a bit sheepishly.

“I suppose that we are alike that way,” Dana says the wind is gently blowing the hair from her face.

“But, there are other things we could do,” he waggles his eyebrows at her suggestively. Dana rolls her eyes at him.

“Well, just sweep me off my feet, why don’t ya?” she slurs. And despite her barb, he finds himself totally smitten.

Mulder sweeps his hand up her thigh,  to find that she is wearing thigh-high panty-hose. This is a big turn on for him, and he wishes he could see them better. His fingers pull the elastic of her panties to the side, then they find her swollen sex.

“Like this?” he asks as his fingers swirl around her clit. Her hand is pumping him up and down, he thinks he might explode.

“Yes, like that,” she breathes out. As they kiss and caress each other, their sighs of pleasure dissolve into the night sky above them.  

Mulder offers to walk her down to hail a cab, and Dana had hastily accepted. As they walk, he feels himself start to sober up. Mulder notices her struggling to keep up with his much longer strides.

“Short stuff,” he chuckles under his breath, but slows his pace so they can walk side by side.

“Well, being short has its advantages. A lower center of gravity, for instance.” Dana cracks a smile.

“Oh, really, and how is that helpful?” he deadpans.

“Well, I could take you down in a second,” she grins up at him.

“You will have to prove it.” Mulder challenges. He realizes that they have already fallen into an easy repartee. Mulder has always been attracted to intelligent women, but something about Dana is different. Her dry wit and her steely confidence are endlessly appealing to him.

“Well, this is not a good place for a demonstration,” she says looking at the concrete sidewalk. Mulder can see her brain work, calculating the risks. This intrigues him, as he has always leaped and then looked later.  ”And I don’t want to irreparably injure you.”

“Well, seeing as we are both in the FBI now,” he stops walking and turns towards her. “Why don’t we meet up at the gym, and you can show me.”

“Perhaps, but I must warn you, I am a lot stronger than I look,” she puts her hands on her hips. Her auburn hair takes on a vermillion glow under the streetlamp.

“I’m sure of it.” He says softly. Then he pulls her closer to him, and she smiles up at him. Her smile is luminous, and cuts through the darkness like a beacon. He thinks he might follow that smile anywhere, even to the ends of the earth. He puts his hand on her cheek, and she leans into him. He feels drunk now, but for a completely different reason. He can’t help but kiss her again. And his heart swells as she kisses him back ardently. Her fervent desire matches his own, and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. Breaking the kiss Mulder looks into her eyes.

“Why don’t you come back to my place?” he asks tentatively. He thinks about making love to her properly. Then he remembers that his bedroom is in total disarray, files and magazines everywhere. When he’s not at Diana’s place he has been sleeping on his couch like a college frat boy. Maybe he should suggest a hotel, but that would imply that this is a one time thing. Mulder is pretty sure he doesn’t want this to be a one time thing. Dana looks down at her shiny black heels, and clears her throat.

“I, uh, have a confession to make…”   a guilty expression flits over her face. “I have a boyfriend. “

“You’re not just trying to get out of a second date, are you? “ he chuckles, trying to make her smile.

“This was a first date?” she raises her right eyebrow at him. He shrugs his shoulders, and wonders where he could take a woman like this on a second date. Certainly not your normal dinner and a movie situation. “I do really have a boyfriend, I promise.”  When he looks into her eyes, there is an honesty that astounds him. “Actually, we just had a fight before I came over here. He wants to get married, and have kids right away. But, I am just starting with the Bureau, and there is still so much I want to accomplish.” She pauses and picks at her fingernail. ”Maybe I’m just not quite ready to settle down.”

“I know it’s none of my business,” he pauses and takes her hand. “But you’ve worked really hard to get to this place in your career, and he should be more supportive of that.” He says earnestly. Dana’s eyes flash in surprise. “I don’t know, maybe he’s just not the right guy for you.”  Maybe I am the right guy for you, he almost says, but doesn’t.  

“Yeah, maybe,” she sighs.

“Well, since we’re being honest…” he pauses feeling the regret sinking into his stomach. “I should tell you that I have a girlfriend.” His heart thumps in his chest. Dana’s face is free of judgement, but full of understanding. “I just found out today that she’s going to Europe on assignment.” When he looks into her eyes, they are open, honest. “I don’t think she was even going to tell me. I just happened to find the paperwork on her desk. She requested the transfer,” he finishes, trying to conceal the hurt in his voice. Something about Dana makes him feel comfortable with honesty, with being vulnerable. She twines her fingers with his, and something about this simple act feels so intimate.

“I’m sorry,” she says with absolute sincerity. Mulder is touched.

“This wasn’t supposed to happen tonight,” he says gazing into her eyes, mediterranean blue under the streetlamp.

“I know,” her voice comes in a strained whisper. There is something between them, something different.

“Do you believe in fate?” He asks. Dana thinks for a moment before she answers.

“Logically, I would have to say no. I think that it’s our choices that make us who we are,” she says with certainty. Mulder thinks that he might love her already.

“Well then we believe the same thing,” he says softly. Her smile is one that could bring peace to the middle east, or stop the earth spinning on its axis. He is smitten.

“When can I see you again?” Mulder asks, heart on his sleeve. Dana reaches into her handbag, and produces a slip of paper and a pen.

“Turn around,” she instructs. Mulder complies easily because he has a feeling that he would do anything she asked. As she writes, he feels her strong looping strokes against his back.

“This is my number. Since we are both attached at the moment, I won't be offended if you don't call me,” she reaches up to kiss him again sweetly. “But, I hope you do.” She presses the slip of paper into his palm.

“I will,” he says softly, and he means it. He looks down at the name and number. When he looks up, he sees a taxi pulling up to the curb. Mulder grabs her elbow. “Weren't you going to say goodbye?”  His voice is wistful.

“No,” she opens the taxi door. “I guess I have the feeling that we will see each other again.“

With that she slides into the cab, and she is gone. As he watches the taillights disappear around the corner, he feels a strange sense of hope for the future. Then there is the damp smell of rain, mixed with the dirt and grime of the city streets. Mulder looks down to see the first drops splatter on the paper, making the fresh ink run and bleed. Soon the letters and numbers are gone leaving only a blue-black ink-blot. The rain grows harder stinging him, and soaking him through to the skin. What once was hope; washes away to leave a bitter well of regret. And there is Mulder standing in the rain, alone, like always.

Before Diana leaves for Europe, she promises that she will call. She vows that she will visit if she gets the chance. In all honesty, Mulder is not quite happy, but not quite sad to see her go. Diana sends him a few postcards from England and France, then slowly all communication fades between them.

One day he finds the slip of paper from Dana. He wonders what she is up to, if she is still has that boyfriend. Mulder is an investigator, and he knows he could find her if he tried. But he is too invested in his work right now, maybe even obsessed. Besides, he has the feeling that he would only hurt her. That he would drive her away, like he does with everyone else. She is too perfect and too lovely in his memory. He should leave her there untouched. Mulder has the habit of maring everything he touches, she would break like glass in between his fingers.

Months pass. One day he gets a memo; a new agent will be assigned to the X-Files. Some poor sap will be forced to share this tiny basement office with him. He already hates his new partner. He imagines some straightlaced balding doofus, who will certainly annoy him.  Mulder crumples up the paper and tosses it in the wastebasket.

One day he sets up a meeting with Skinner to tell him not to bother with this whole partner thing.

“You need someone, Agent Mulder,“ Skinner says with a tight jaw.

“I don’t need a partner,” Mulder says petulantly. “I work best alone.” Skinner takes off his glasses and looks him in the eye.

“There is nothing I can do about this anyway. This order came straight down from the top,” He whispers harshly. “Besides, you should know, that none of us get there alone.”  Mulder leaves the office in a huff, slamming the door behind him. His anger masking what can only be hurt on the inside.

He does his research on his new partner. He scoffs when he finds out that his new partner re-wrote Einstein for his senior thesis. This man Dana Scully must be a real cocky son of a bitch. Mulder reads it, and is surprised to find it rather intriguing. But he still doesn’t want him as a partner. Maybe agent Scully will meet him, and immediately request a transfer. Afterall, he’s spooky Mulder, right? He feels bitterness enveloping him, when he hears a knock on the door.

“Sorry, nobody down here but the FBI’s most unwanted,” a joke that masks the truth. Then the door opens, and he sees her. His heart flops into his stomach. Mulder doesn’t know why he never considered the possibility that she would be his new partner. The last he knew she was about to start teaching at Quantico. He is struck. Authors note: It’s my AU, so Mulder is not color-blind. To be honest, I’m pretty sure Mulder was only color-blind in one episode, and it was never mentioned again anyway. Pt. 5: Little bit of Payback

 To make up for his mistake, Sero stood above the ground and utilized his tape to swing himself from building to building, and lamppost to lamppost. After a while he realized he wasn’t alone once he saw Ojiro using the upper grounds to his advantage too.

Smirking, he chased after the tailed-boy, who gasped in shock when he realized that he was being followed as he sped up and jumped quicker, using his tail to swing and launch himself from lamppost to building.

For a moment, he landed and hung onto a lamppost, silently coming up with a plan to try and get away from Sero.

“If I just…” Ojiro whispered to himself, swinging with a grunt of effort. After finding the right momentum, Ojiro lept into the air and flung himself onto the roof of a smaller building but he shouted when his arm was pulled back a rope of sticky tape and saw Sero hanging from the same lamppost he had thrown himself off.

“Tag! You’re it!” Sero grinned as he cut off the tape and brought himself back down to the ground so he could take off as Ojiro watched on in defeat.

“Damn…” Ojiro sighed as he decided to stay above ground and see if anyone was hiding behind corners or running out to leave themselves open. He wasn’t very quick, and he hated the idea of sneaking around to get ahead but it was seeming that he wouldn’t have a choice.

Staying discreet, he analyzed the ground, and so far, he didn’t see anyone yet.

After another 5 minutes he realized that he was running out of time. Thankfully he caught a break when he spotted a familiar purple-haired boy trying to cross over to another alley to creep in. Ojiro wasn’t a vengeful person by any means but tagging the one who brainwashed him in the Sports Festival would be karmic justice in a way.

Carefully, he climbed down the building with the use of his quirk and kept his mouth shut this time as he quietly approached the building and started to climb to the top, deciding to surprise him.

Shinsou gave a quiet sigh, panting a little bit. He definitely lost you after you started teleporting every way, which way after hearing that Kaminari and Kirishima had been ‘it’. He was smart enough to know by now that those two had to have tagged somebody by now.

He took a moment to peek out of the alley to see if anyone was coming, even looking at the roofs of the building in case they were hiding. However, his eyes widened ever so slightly when he heard something behind him, turning slowly he was greeted by a palm tapping his shoulder.

“Tag. Now you’re it. And now we’re even. No tagbacks.” Ojiro smiled victoriously once he tagged the boy, who was in a state of mild shock when he realized that the ‘monkey’ he brainwashed at the Sports Festival had gotten him.

“Dammit…” He grunted, since apparently, he couldn’t tag him back even if he wanted to and even though he certainly could because he spoke to him. Tagging you was out of the question too…

“Hey Momo! Do you know how much more time we have left?” Mina asked the taller girl as she ran alongside her and Jirou.

“About 9 more minutes.” She replied fairly quickly, having kept count of the time passed after hearing you give a limit of 20 minutes.

“I wonder who’s been tagged so far… aside from Bakugou, Kaminari and myself.” Jirou pondered aloud, obviously not holding anything against Mina for tagging her earlier.

“Everyone is mostly scattered based on what I’ve observed, so I can only presume that almost everyone has been tagged so far, although I’m going to estimate that (L/N) and Hagakure possibly haven’t been tagged yet… Hagakure’s quirk gives her the best advantage for hiding and sneaking and then (L/N) has versatile abilities especially her transmutation and concilium powers, those allow her to have defensive and evasive skills.” Yaoyorozu deducted, smiling a little bit because this game was surprisingly fun. She regrets not playing it when she was younger, she was starting to see the appeal.

She giggled a little bit, “You know, I had my doubts about this but I think I get why (L/N) suggested this game. I’m having a good time.” The rich girl confessed to her friends, who gave her smiles.

“I know! I feel like I’m in elementary again! No worries! Just having fun with everyone!” Mina exclaimed cheerfully.

“Yeah… it’s nice to have a break from everything.” Jirou admitted softly, her smile small but genuine.

The moment between the girls was short-lived however, as Shinsou spotted and heard them as he stepped out of his hiding spot and began to run, feigning a lack of guile until the girls saw him.

“Shinsou?” Yaoyorozu quietly said, and the guy turned to face her, without any expression to indicate that he was up to something.

“Do you know who’s it?” He asked her calmly, maintaining ignorance and making the girls believe that he wasn’t it. Mina at least, Yaoyorozu and Jirou remained suspicious because they knew that his quirk was easy to get trapped in once anyone spoke to him.

“Nope! That’s why we’re running.” Mina cheerfully exclaimed, believing that Shinsou wasn’t it and just running away from whoever WAS ‘it’ too.

Hook line and sinker.

Mina’s black eyes went wide and blank as she suddenly stopped in her tracks, not entirely aware of what was going on now that she found herself in a trance.

“Tag. You’re it.” Shinsou touched the back of her shoulder, giving a small grin as he let the pink girl out of his hold as she blinked in confusion until she heard the words, making her, Jirou and Yaoyorozu gasp in shock.

And Shinsou ran as fast as he could, leaving the girls in his wake before running into an alley. This was definitely a test of evasion, something he wasn’t bad in thanks to his useful quirk, but he needed to work on his cardio.

“AH! I fell for it! DARN IT!” Mina exclaimed and whined a little bit, pouting and crossing her arms as Yaoyorozu and Jirou looked concerned but also alarmed.

“Well… I have to go. Sorry Ashido!” Jirou was quick enough to start running, and Yaoyorozu took that cue to start running too, but Mina squealed and sped up til she was able to touch the other girl’s elbow.

“Tag! You’re it Momo!” She regretfully said and ran away from her as Yaoyorozu grunted in slight frustration.

…

“I’m it… now I have to be sneaky and keep my eyes open for any openings without them seeing me.” Yaoyorozu thought in her head once her friends ran away from her, and prompted to use one of the artificial trees as a means to get above the ground. The buildings would be too predictable, and she assumed everyone was getting wise with them.

Peering through the leaves, she remained careful and silent as she created a small toy gun from her arm. Target practice wasn’t exactly her strong suit but she was confident in her abilities as she waited until she finally saw someone!

Todoroki.

She had so much respect for him, and found him pretty handsome, however she had to tag him now that time was running out and because he was in such close proximity it was her best chance. Aiming her gun, she focused on him and held her breath to stay quiet until he was close enough for her to shoot!

Her ammo? Harmless suction cups that stuck to whatever they landed on. And on the suction cup had the word ‘TAG’ on it. Something she had specially created for the purpose of this really thrilling game.

Todoroki turned sharply with a small grunt of rare surprise when he heard a noise, but gasped lightly when something landed on his arm and there it was. The suction cup with the ‘TAG’ on it.

Yaoyorozu gasped aloud, just as shocked and mildly horrified that she managed to get Todoroki.

“Tag! You’re it.” She grinned at him from above the tree. “Wow! (L/N) was right! This is fun!” Yaoyorozu couldn’t help but express her excitement, and admittedly she was happy that she finally got Todoroki because she respected him so much. However, she quelled a bit of her excitement to avoid offending him, but thankfully he wasn’t offended at all.

Instead, Todoroki was amazed and impressed with her skills. “You got me.” He said humbly and politely as he let the girl start running because he couldn’t tag her back even if he wanted to.

With only 5 minutes left on the clock, Todoroki had to act quick. He was mildly annoyed with himself for taking this game so seriously, but he still had that competitiveness and he refused to be labeled ‘the loser’ as you put it once the time runs out.

So he started running, searching for anyone who might be hiding and sneaking around in the area. His senses on high alert as he looked up and down, left and right although he slowed his pace down just a little bit to avoid startling anyone hiding.

“WHOO-HOO!”

There you were.

Just making yourself float and jump from building to building with your telekinesis keeping you afloat. Seeing you leave yourself out in the open like that, provoked Todoroki to attempt to tag you. He felt confused at this new feeling he got, with the time running out and the fact that you were there practically begging him to tag you. Adrenaline wasn’t unfamiliar to him, but this was a different kind of rush that made him want to surprise you and make you ‘it’.

With a small smirk, he followed you discreetly as you remained happily oblivious to the fact that someone was watching you.

Carefully, you lowered yourself down until your feet were on the ground, and you quickly turned around and looked every way, which way. And for that moment you were positive that you were alone, or at the very least far away from the person who was it.

Todoroki kept hidden behind an alley because he knew you would be smart enough to check your surroundings first. However, once he saw that you felt secure enough, he carefully and quietly ran towards you with your back turned.

“Tag. You’re it.” The low voice made you jump and shriek as the feeling of soft fingers tapping you on the back on startled you, and you turned around. “AHHH!!” Widening your (E/C) eyes in surprise as you gasped loudly when you saw Todoroki of all people, giving you a small, but cheeky smile as you grinned and laughed happily.

“AHAHAHA! You got me! You got me Toto!”

You couldn’t believe it! Todoroki tagged you! You didn’t care that you were ‘it’ right now, all that mattered is that you saw that Todoroki smiling and for once, appearing to be having fun! “No tagbacks.” Todoroki even reminded you, still smiling at you a little bit much to your joy.

“Hee-hee oh I know! But you’d better keep running before the person I tag gets you!” You said to him happily, waving at the heterochromatic boy with an excited laugh, barely hearing him chuckle as he started to run off in your opposite direction.

“I’M IIIIITTTT~!!” You announced to your classmates, sure it wasn’t the subtlest approach but that was your way of being arrogant since your powers would allow you to tag someone quick and easy.

“Oh crap! Now (L/N)’s it! We’re really screwed now!” Kaminari was the first to take off running somewhere else, knowing that with the time only down to 1 minute that you were going to choose someone unlucky.

“Get out of here… FAST!” Sero said in alarm, using his tape to transport himself higher even though he was sure you’d teleport yourself up there but, he and everyone else were starting to get desperate.

Giggling evilly, you saw Midoriya with Uraraka and Iida, and they all widened their eyes in terror once they saw you coming. “Haha~! Greenie! Rara and Four Eyes!” You held your hands up with a dark smirk, “W-We have to go! We have 45 seconds left!” Midoriya exclaimed to anyone else around him as he found himself running away as fast as he could with Uraraka and Iida in quick succession once they picked up that you were just taunting them.

“Who’s gonna get it?!” You sang-songed and laughed evilly, and you turned to see a very amused Shinsou with his arms folded in his lap. “I knew it would all come down to you.” He muttered, smirking at you as you snickered a bit. “You know how I am…” Casually you snickered, and Shinsou wasn’t worried because he knew you wouldn’t tag him.

“I’d hug you Hitoshi… but I am It sooooo… I’ll let you go THIS time…” You smirked right back at him, earning a chuckle from your best friend. “This time huh? If that’s the case… I can’t wait for next time.” He gladly accepted since that only meant you promised a more ‘fun’ challenge during the next game of Quirk Tag, as he decided to go off and let you tag your last unfortunate victim.

And once he was gone, you focused your mind and used your telekinesis to make yourself float and fly steadily to find the person you wanted to tag the most just to fuck with him again. Looking down you searched fast until you saw the familiar spiky blonde hair, and then you saw the pair of red eyes peer upwards and widen once they locked with yours.

“Katsuki~!” You sang his name as you floated down and started to skip after him, prompting the irritated blonde to shout at you while he started running, “BACK OFF WITCH BITCH! You’re not tagging me again!”

“Yes I am~!” You continued to sing, laughing wildly as you started to use transmutation to make yourself get ahead to him quicker, “SHIT!” He exclaimed to himself, and seeing no other choice he held out his palms to propel himself from the ground and fly off into the distance.

Only 10 more seconds left…

Bakugou was smart, you almost forgot that. To catch up with him, you made yourself fly again and kept your arms at your side to make yourself faster and avoided the fire from his palms, and yet you stood behind him. Looking over his shoulder, he smirked when it seemed you weren’t able to get close enough.

Growling a bit in frustration, you decided to use your classic strategy, focusing again as you suddenly teleported from your spot as Bakugou gasped once he saw you disappear and looked around frantically until you took him by surprise by jumping in front of him.

“SURPRISE!” You threw your arms out with a wild grin on your face as he screamed and forced himself to break and stop his flight. But he was careful enough to let himself land on his feet, and then he was met with you floating back down as you raised your open palm towards him.

“TAG!! YOU’RE IIIII…” In your rush, you didn’t see that Bakugou rather easily ducked out of the way before you could tag him, and instead your palm pressed onto someone else’s chest. Blinking, you slowly and reluctantly stared up to see a VERY angry looking Aizawa who glared down at you with his angry, glowing red eyes.

I’m going to answer these two in one answer, because it focuses on similar topics.

To be honest, I am on the similar hype that I enjoyed seeing another display of Eren’s observation and deductive skills- it was a very brutal, but badass, action sequence that will look just as so when adapted in animation.

Most of Eren’s activity in this chapter was his fighting strategy and I believe it displayed improvement in the practice of analyzing the battlefield.  We’ve already seen evidence of this when he figures out Lady Tybur is able to control the Warhammer Titan without having to reside at the nape of the neck, so long as she is connected to the physical body in some way.  This is a contrast to his previous dependence on his distress and anger to fuel his strength.  And while there have been times in those battles where he eventually understood specific techniques or sought opportunity to enhance his abilities (such as remembering the Annie’s fighting techniques that made Reiner struggle or finding the hardening vial he took advantage to bite through), much of his instruction came from characteristically strategic planners such as Armin, Hange, and Erwin.  It’s not to say Eren wasn’t cunning, as seen in his youth when playing innocent before Mikasa’s abductors, but he relied on improvised attack which isn’t always the best go-to in every scenario.

So I really enjoyed Eren’s calculative mindset without hesitation, willing to trust his intuition and logic.  Even as a planned attack and learning about the layout of the plan beforehand, it’s likely no one anticipated such a wildcard like the Warhammer’s abilities.  And yet, Eren did not need help analyzing the situation, and it certainly didn’t seem to take long to act on his suspicions; any inner dialogue about them took but a few panels.  And though there was trial and error when it came to breaking open Lady Tybur’s crystal, considering the action of war in the background and a chomp-happy Porco, I’d go so far to say it is an indicator of increased wit.  I’m not sure what I would rate him exactly, since I believe some of those stats are superficial, but it appears the one roadblock to his weaker points at the time, such as wit, was his high temper stat.  With that at a much lower temperature and experience, wit is definitely higher than his initial score of 3.

After the absolutely brutal and borderline squeamish use of Porco’s jaw to break open Lady Tybur like an egg, he encounters an alive but weak Reiner.  It goes just as you would probably expect: a swift punch to the jaw, that quickly sends him flying back.  What I find interesting, however, is that there was a very easy shot of killing Reiner right then and there.  Maybe the power of plot saved him, maybe Eren was truly to weak to command his Titan to throw a few punches, and maybe they were on a severe enough time constraint that one millisecond delay is not worth driving a heel or fist once more- the fighting ends abruptly and there an expectation to get him next time.  At this point, we see Eren wear a forlorn expression that I simply read as it being directed at Reiner.

Throughout this arc, Eren has been flipping the on and off switch when it comes to exposing his emotions.  He’s spent a lot of the beginning part decepting Falco, and therefore showed himself vulnerable.  But he appears very reserved, quiet, and melancholy in his brief encounters with his grandfather and during his temporary solitude.  Throughout his talk with Reiner, he shows less expression and puts more effort into his words, up until Reiner breaks down in front of him, he seems to be a bit shocked by the outburst.  And then comes Willy’s declaration of war, when Eren is reminded by the goal he has been fighting for throughout the entire story, to obtain his right to freedom- it seems to ignite something within him before he breaks into what I interpret as...a distressed “smile.”  It’s not a happy nor relieved one, though it is laced with self-assurance and strain.  I’m not sure if this will be touched up on but it seems to be the more ambiguous of his variety of expressions (and lack thereof) and I believe it’s it the most necessary to look back on.  We don’t see his human self in the first acts of attack, but we can assume that it wears something similar to what he is doing.  He is very in control and aware, so I imagine this is where his emotions are put at a halt so that he may use some wit to execute the plan effectively.  We do see a break in this when it seems the Warhammer is defeated, where Mikasa shares her concern of the effects of their raid and Eren’s destruction, when he sees her near tears, his expression is noticeably less focused on the battle as it becomes strained and almost hurt, whether it is in guilt of what his attack did to the innocent, Mikasa’s emotional state, or both.  Of course, he goes back into his battle trance once the Warhammer proves to still be active.

When they make their escape, Eren’s eyes look down and his brows indicate a forlornness.  This is something very telling of his initial feelings at the end of the battle in which previewed with his talk with Reiner and ended with peering below at him (or so I assume).  Despite his newly resolved behavior, the continues to glimmer his empathetic side and this scene is where it is most evident.  I have no doubt Eren expects himself to finish Reiner’s life, but at this point, he seems to understand a connection between themselves.  It’s quite a bit like looking himself in the mirror, acknowledging their likeness, and realizing Reiner’s breaking point.  Reiner is an enemy, of course, but he is also an ex-comrade, and I believe the strong feelings of hatred and hurt of betrayal are simmered down.  He sees a better picture of his enemy’s life, excuses it as something wrong with society to make him like this, confirming that their ambitions really are the same albeit on opposite sides.  Killing Reiner is a necessity at this point, but I strongly believe that rather than feeling upset that he couldn’t kill him, that it was a statement of fact.  That, no, they are not able to kill Reiner this time, but their will be an attempt another time.  It is no longer a priority and Eren sets aside his plan at vengence to focus on the primary goal- though not without what I personally see to be a look of pity or sadness.  It is a stark contrast to when he first saw Reiner escape death.

We likely won’t have these expressions properly explained outright (which I wouldn’t want that anyway), but hopefully they will come with further context clues and more ‘show don’t tell’ methods.  I would love to see that final stare at Reiner to be relevant to their next meeting, if anything between now and later would change anything, and how he expresses his feelings of Reiner to both himself internally and his comrades, which I have suspicion to believe he verbally expresses a different picture than what he wears.  But essentially, my thoughts on Eren are fixated on both his improved abilities in battle as well as his long term cling to human empathy.

Sorry, this got more wordy than I intended!  I have a lot of my own opinions and interpretations in this chapter and as a mid-point of the volume, it is thought-provoking and emotion-inducing and boy do I love things that make me think and feel!  Very good chapter!

Dhsjdjsjskksks. First tribal done. We just finished the taboo challenge ... A good bonding experience with my tribe. However, I have a feeling we lost. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 The fact that I was the guesser. Rip. 

I filmed confessionals but my internet got disconnected hahaha so that's neat. Hopefully there will be youtube videos here soon, but new update Jodi and I are in alliances with Dennis and brayden separately which I think would be hilarious if they were also in am alliance together. And it will be funny it my internet is still out for the challenge tomorrow since I'm the guesser 😆 whoops

So this is the beginning of round 2 and here are my thoughts. Might purposely not be helpful in the taboo challenge lol but i have to do it in a way that doesn't show im throwing it? tbh i say this now but when i start playing the urge to win comes in ugh but i just wanna vote one of these people out. I also took a stroll through the wiki page for this org and i love that some of these people (esp brayden and amy) have played before and their stats are there like yassss give me ammunition yassss!!!! anywho i dont care if we win or lose tomorrow i think i set myself up nicely within the tribe and i still really dont think any of these people won the hunt challenge on my tribe but again who knowssss. if we lose the logic would probably be go for josh or ginny aka the least active people buttt i dont think so like i don't wanna go the boring route. i need to keep josh close to get to merge with him we have friends on the other tribeeeeeee so i need them to survive and i need him and i to survive till we swap or merge to link up. im also trying to win a hunt challenge but my god y'all have me fucked up!!!!!!!!! i guess we shall see what happens tomorrowwwwww

It was nice sitting the challenge out, I'm busy tomorrow and the fact that they could complete it is good for me. Also, if we lose, nobody can blame me for the loss. Only drawback is it appears to me some people can be getting close by bonding over funny things in a game. I have to go back and see who may be close, I don't think I'm next on the chopping block, but I'm definitely not in control. To me, I do not need to be number one on this tribe, I just need to survive the next tribal and hopefully make it to the swap at 14 or 15.

HEY SO KIND OF A LOT OF DEVELOPMENTS TO MY GAME we didn't lose first challenge!! thats great. whatever. no tribal. I've been trying to connect with fellow tribemates but overall we're all pretty quiet. I did have a small 30 minute call with Jay where we kinda connected on somewhat of a game level. I kinda get the vibe that he may not fully trust me or he might see my as a threat, but I want to work with him. I also really like Anastasia and Elle, I think I can connect with them more on a more genuine level. Perfect scenario for me would be setting up a trio alliance of Me + Elle + Anastasia, and then having Jay on the side as my actual #1. idk if I can pull that off, but that was my plan heading into round 2 BUT. AS ROUND 2 STARTED, MY GAY ASS WON THE HUNT CHALLENGE. AMAZING. idk HOW I managed it because like?? I finished and found the hidden link within like 20 minutes? Statistically very unlikely BUT I'm so glad I did it. I WON A SAFETY WITHOUT POWER. It's kinda like a hidden immunity idol, except slightly worse because I can't actually partake in tribal at all. we went ahead and competed in the Taboo challenge last night and boy it was kinda rough. We lost a LOTTA points because we kept accidentally saying forbidden words (I lost us 2 points, woops). But we ended up with a semi decent score. Elle did an amazing job guessing. I really hope we can pull this out. SO YEAH SORRY THATS KIND OF A LOT. OVERALL I FEEL LIKE IM IN A DECENT POSITION, WAY BETTER NOW THAT I HAVE A SWP. I wanna further my position in the game with some allies now. That's my next biggest goal. toodles!!!

So I've figured out that Amy is a comp beast based on us discussing our old seasons and how she did in those: she always talks down her abilities because she's worried she's being painted as a big challenge threat, but I don't think she realizes that doesn't matter to me at all. Ultimately, I think she needed to be at tonight's challenge more than me, so I decided it's ok to sit out since I'm sitting out only because somebody has to, not because I don't want to play. In tribal challenges, it means she'll help keep us winning tribal immunity, and further down the line, if anything, I'll be using her as my "Ken" and if she wins everything, it'll keep immunity away from people I want out. 

I think I did much better in Taboo than I did in endurance, so I'm happy about that. Hopefully my performance this round can help me redeem myself with my tribemates.

So! We did the Taboo challenge and got second place, probs wouldve got first if we didnt get deductions but also we did so good so whatever 😂. I definitely kinda pushed for us to do the challenge last night bc it's Dylan's birthday and I didn't want to have to like, be anywhere specifically today 😅. But yeah we did super good and now I'm gonna go talk to ppl bc I've been gone all day lol

SO. Here’s the rundown: We lost. Again. Pushing for Shaad to go. Moth, Jared, and Danny all agree with him going. So far I’m getting good vibes with everyone. While he's telling the truth, I'm actually not too panicked because 1) I actually checked out the wiki before he told me about it and 2) I have pretty decent relationship with Amy to incentivize her to keep me around. I worked tightly with Amy for the specific reason that I knew she'll have others to work with, and for her to keep me as a loyal number. I also know that she was runner up of another series and she already recognizes the target on her, so I doubt she wants to risk me putting a bigger one. So, tbh I've done some research about some previous seasons and I noticed Moth and Jessica have played together before. Moth still has not talked to me but Jessica has been overly friendly. I know they have a group message with Jared and I know he can be the split vote between what happens in our tribal tomorrow. Jared claims he has voted for Moth but we will truly see tomorrow. But honestly, if he chooses us, then Jessica is next unless the tribe swap or merge has happened.

Jodi: Jodi remains at the top of the tribe for much of the same reason as last round. Now, she is even in two alliances with no one wanting to come for her nor do they see her as playing both alliances. Hopefully Jodi’s quick alliance making and constant worrying will help strengthen her defenses in the later rounds to come when people will be looking at her more closely.

Amy: Amy is still playing that stellar UTR game. No one seems to register her as a threat despite their access to the wiki and her performance in the challenge. Her social game is just too strong. Additionally, her greater willingness to work with Dennis than Jodi’s willingness to work with him may provide some good allies for Amy if she ever wants to distance herself from Jodi.

Brayden: Brayden rises in the rankings from last round as he has become more closely aligned with Amy and Jodi. The trio seem to see themselves as the only “active” ones on their tribe and are very quick to bond. Additionally, unlike Dennis, Brayden is not viewed with suspicion by either Jodi or Amy. They definitely feel more like a core alliance than they did with Dennis. Furthermore, Brayden is poised to get the people he wants gone out of this game. He is targeting Josh and Dennis which are good targets, especially the latter. All it takes is for Brayden to push a little for Dennis and I am sure the two girls will take the bait. Finally, Brayden’s connection with Ginnifer is very beneficial since he seems to be the only one willing to work with her at the moment. This gives him a very easy ally and Ginnifer doesn’t have much of a choice besides working closely with him. It is certainly an easy number for Brayden if he ever wanted to backstab Jodi or Amy in the future.

Josh: What lands Josh here is that he performed well in the challenge and is easy to like. Interacting with Josh on calls is always a pleasure. However, by not being part of that main trio, he is in danger of being voted out on a whim. Despite that, he seems to be, in my eyes, the least likely out of the bottom 3 to be voted out. Additionally, there is paranoia around people’s “experience” with ORGs surrounding these bottom 3 from others (despite the fact that the top 3 is composed of 2 people with ORG experience). Josh gets this heat the least.

Dennis: Dennis is in real danger if this tribe goes to tribal council. If Brayden pushes hard enough, Jodi can be easily swayed into turning on Dennis. He needs to back off with the strategy talk and just be more social. What saves him from last is that he is in that alliance with Jodi and Amy. This might make Jodi hesitant about targeting Dennis so soon as she may see him as a number. Additionally, Amy does seem keen on keeping Dennis around for a little while which would help his longevity. Hopefully Dennis can realize people’s perceptions of him before it is too late considering that he gives great confessionals and is one of my favorite players this season.

Ginnifer: Ginnifer may be on the bottom, but she definitely has a chance at avoiding being voted out. Most talk around Ginny is about how she is hard to socialize with, but I am sure, when the strategic game starts becoming more important, she can navigate out of this position. After all, she does have Brayden advocating for her which can definitely help. She would need to push for Dennis if she wants to survive until the swap at this point.

Fools

Jared: He takes the number 1 spot on this tribe as he is working with both “sides.” He is serving as the perfect double agent for Danny and Shaad. Additionally, he is making the smart move of getting rid of an obvious duo wherein he was the third wheel of that alliance. He has a great strategic mind on his shoulders, but is it too early for him to show that off? Regardless, he has earned this top spot by avoiding the target cleanly and betraying his allies perfectly. Jared is definitely a contender for the winner spot as he has shown some excellent gameplay these past two rounds.

Danny: Danny has done well in avoiding the target this round as well. He seems to be more sociable and active than Shaad which is the main reason that he is not the one getting Jessica’s and Moth’s vote. Additionally, he was the one that brought Jessica’s and Moth’s pre-existing relationship to Jared’s attention which caused this flip to happen in the first place. Finally, Danny made an excellent move by pairing himself with Jared as this duo could be something fearsome to go up against in the future. The cards are being laid out for a force to be reckoned with and I am excited to see what Danny will do in the future.

Shaad: It is hard to tell if Shaad did anything himself to avoid being voted out, but, regardless, he did something right by aligning with Danny and Jared instead of ratting to Jessica and Moth. In fact, even if he does rat, he will still land himself at number 3. He is not going to get voted out here, and has an established alliance moving forward. And now that he is putting more focus on the game, I am happily anticipating what he can accomplish now.

Jessica: Jessica is being blindsided tonight. However, at the very least, she is not the one going. Her performance in challenges have helped her avoid the target for the time being. Here we can see that the boys weren’t inactive, they were just inactive with her which spells doom for Jessica if this tribe goes to tribal council again. Unfortunately, the boys found out about her prior connection with Moth. The only thing Jessica could have done was to distance herself from Moth at the beginning of the game, but that seemed unlikely since people were inactive with her. I hope Jessica is able to survive until a swap because it would be devastating to see her go so early.

Moth: There is nothing Moth did that landed them here. It was just an unfortunate circumstance wherein they are targeted because of a prior connection. Additionally, I doubt Moth is going to see this coming.

S.E.E.S.

Colin: With an advantage in his hands and him being the most popular bachelor on his tribe, Colin is quick to make allies and his allies like it that way. It feels as if everyone wants to ally with Colin. His activity in the earlier stages of the game have definitely born fruit.

Elle: Similar to Colin, everyone wants to work with Elle. Her social game is just that strong. Nothing much else to say besides what I said before, but the challenge definitely helped raise Elle’s standings in the tribe.

Anastasia: Similar to last round. Nothing much to say.

Jay: He is keeping out of the spotlight which is good.

Babs: No developments. Still viewed in the same way though has noticeably been less unhinged in the tribe chat.

Jennifer: Still the same as last time: seemingly inactive and might be targeted for it.

and not to worry! it’s a very long post, so i figure i’m going to have very long responses. i like to think about it.

1. How do they move and carry themselves? Pace, rhythm, gestures, energy?

she’s tall, but quick on her feet; she tends to move at a hasty but steady pace, mostly keeping her weight on the balls of her feet. this can change depending on how much sand she’s slogging through and how steep the incline, but she can book it across an open field. comes with the territory of being a courier–the faster you are, the better the pay. she’s pretty stealthy as a result, as well; there’s no use in being fast if you’re making too much noise.

30. What is their preferred level of activity and stimulation? How do they cope if they get either too little or too much?

she’s used to the quiet. long, lonely roads with naught but the strains of the radio, when she’s close enough to a settlement that has one going. she does grasp at the company and sound when she can, though. once she starts taking on more of a permanent stay in new vegas, she typically goes around with rex and like…one other person. usually boone, who also tends to not talk very much.

maddy’s…fine? with being around freeside and the strip? mostly. she’s been known to clean out the casinos a time or two, but it’s rare, and she usually immediately goes traveling back out into near-silence afterwards to kind of…re-energise, i suppose. the quiet life has always suited her best, which makes adjusting to life after the events of hoover dam…interesting.

though, she doesn’t nearly like being by herself as much after what happens when she’s caught alone unaware and subsequently, uh, messed with/experimented on/dragged into some real bullshit.

40. What do they wonder about? What sparks their curiosity and imagination, and why? How is this expressed, if it is?

she never used to think about pre-war life much. post-war america is, for better or worse, an entity of its own–entirely divorced from what it once was. there’s too much going on in the day-to-day, trying to survive, to worry about what was going on in the minds of the men who ended the world.

that clearly changes after she meets house–for better or worse, his demand for getting the strip as close as could be to its old stylings turned her life upside-down. she starts reading a little more, watching what holotapes she can get, reading terminals when she scavenges–trying to learn more, take what she finds, and figure out how to use that to her advantage.

and after the events at the repconn test facility, she always looks up at the stars and wonders…did anyone else out there fuck up as badly as humanity did?

this is such an oddly worded question, lmao. farris, as in most iterations, remains fairly withdrawn–though the notable exception here being that, at least in their backstory, they’re pretty damn important to their local community. it’s a tenuous thing, as no one nearby totally trusts them (oh no spooky magic), but they serve a pretty necessary and helpful purpose as the local healer/magical item purveyor/what have you. in that sense, farris mostly just focuses on survival; what’s needed to stay alive, resourceful, and keep their family safe.

so…they’re cautious. pragmatic. generally pretty cynical, but…gentle, when the need arises.

16. Do they dream? What are those dreams like?

i’m not sure how much a druid can specifically have like…clairvoyance/prophetic dreaming–that would likely require some kind of multiclassing, and i damn well plan on them becoming a full level 20 druid someday–but i’ve had the thought that farris always just has this…gut feeling, about things. probably talks to plants a lot. but they always dream in the abstract, nothing ever truly definitive; “seeing” always seems to work that way.

(ah, right, druids can scry, though it’s more of an active process. probably a little more definitive when they’re trying to be, but mostly just…vagueness.)

HMM. i think farris prefers to have more of a lived experience? i picture them as having wandered a lot before settling in their swamp home, and while they do have a lot of books around, it’s mostly their own personal notes. the sense of prior travel strikes me particularly because they’re part of the circle of the land, which kind of especially adheres to a more community-driven druid base than the other circles. they likely have a few things gifted from other druids as a result; each imparting their wisdom to one another, some more…forwardly than others.

that said, farris does have a tendency to, uh, typically think they know better than other people. especially non-magic users, or those that derive their powers from outside sources (like warlocks).

Appearance

Jotaro is a tall, attractive, and well-built man, even as a teenager. He has dark hair that constantly blends with his hat, a strong jaw, bold eyebrows, and green eyes. He bears a mild resemblance to his great-great-grandfather, Jonathan Joestar, and his grandfather, Joseph Joestar when he was young.

Jotaro's wears a modifies trenchcoat-length gakuran/tsume-eri with a tall, stiff collar, pierced on the left with a golden chain. Personality:

During his journey to Egypt, Jotaro attached himself to his companions, and through several small gestures expressed his friendship towards them. Signs of him loosening up were also shown where he occasionally (but not often) smiles.

Jotaro also has a soft spot for children and is noticeably more tolerant and protective toward them.

Jotaro hates people who hurt women or children in a fight, even if the woman or child in question is evil, and will be especially violent toward them. However, Jotaro doesn't show mercy to evil women and will if need be severely beat them. Furthermore, nagging girls chasing him (both at his school and throughout his journey) annoy Jotaro, who ignores or rudely drives them away, particularly when they begin to fuss or bicker.

Moreover, Jotaro is blunt and foul-mouthed, having no problem being insolent towards his mother or any other authority figure. Jotaro is interested in a large range of subjects, such as sumo or the TV series Columbo, from which he claims to have acquired his deductive skills. Several hobbies indicate that he has an intellectual side, which would result in him becoming a marine biologist. Ironically, Jotaro is one of the few who can appreciate Calcutta's atmosphere, which shocks Joseph.

This phrase became popular at the beginning of Elviss career when he was the hottest thing since sliced bread. The crowds following him were completely unmanageable. Women were throwing themselves at him, people fainted, and crowds rushed the gatessome pretty crazy stuff! PromoterHorace Logan coined the phrase at the Shreveport Municipal Memorial Auditorium in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 15, 1956. Elvis had just appeared in the middle of the nights lineup. Logan needed to quiet the audience so that the remaining performers could play. In an attempt to restore order, he told the audience that Elvis had indeed left the building,and for some reason it stuck. The saying has been a fixture in pop culture ever sinceused in songs, movies, sporting events, and even video games. At this point, you may be asking yourself what this has to do with real estate investing. Let me explain. As a multifamily syndicator, I am confronted daily with the fact that the multifamily asset class is crazy overheatedor, as insiders like to say, its frothy. The frenzied behavior behind the fierce competition for multifamily assets reminds me of what it must have been like to be at an Elvis concertrelatively sane people swept up in the emotion of the moment, doing crazy things that they would later regret.

However, up until 15-20 years ago, few investors in the United States were paying much attention. Times sure have changed! Institutional money, insurance companies, family offices, international investors, and sponsors/syndicators are all chasing the same limited number of deals. Over the past 24 months, the value of commercial multifamily assets has skyrocketed. An ever-widening pool of investors chasing yield has driven prices to all-time highs. Foreign investors with reduced return expectations are venturing into secondary and even tertiary markets snapping up assets. Desperate bidders are pitching in huge amounts of hard money (sometimes sight-unseen), raising the ante even further. And dont forget the occasional unscrupulous sponsor who is willing to overpay on a deal just to collect his fees. In my book, I discuss the power of 1031 exchanges. Overpriced multifamily assets render the 1031 exchange ineffective. Many sellers of multifamily assets are finding no options to exchange into when they sell their property. The only properties available for purchase are so overpriced, the tax savings from the exchange are completely offset. Something has to give when the price point on the majority of deals no longer makes any financial sense. Our company was the bridesmaid on a number of deals last year. As a result, we have all but given up on chasing publicly marketed deals. We simply refuse to participate in the madness and to overpay! Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis Has Left the Building All of that being said, have we hit the top? Has the market peaked? Can prices go any higher? Are we now sitting on the precipice heading for a huge correction in the multifamily space, or are we in for more craziness? That same question was on the minds of just about everyone who attended the January National Multifamily Housing Conference in Orlando, Florida. Brokers, lenders, owners, and exhibitors were all asking the same question: How much longer can this run go on? Industry pundits have been predicting a pullback for one, two, and some even three years now.In the last six months of 2017 and the first six months of 2018, there were stronger signs of market softening. Rent growth began to slow in some of the top tier markets, and absorption rates began creeping up. Economic concession rates also grew, although primarily in the class-A rental markets. I think that the current run has quite a bit of steam left in it. There may be a slowdown in the pace at which rents grow and multifamily asset prices rise; however, I dont see any major setbacks in this asset class. If there is a small pullback, I feel it will primarily hit class-A product. The fundamentals of a strong multifamily market have not changed. Millennials are still waiting longer to form households and continue to place a higher importance on mobility than previous generation. Baby Boomers are downsizing at an ever-accelerating pace, and the growing migrant population continues to chose renting out of necessity. Freddie Macs January 24th 2018 Multifamily Outlook pointed to the same conclusion. They noted that in 2017, rent growth and prices moderated while occupancy grew only slightly due to new product completions outpacing demand. They were expecting a small expansion of cap rates and slowing growth in property prices in 2018. Remember, even though the rate of growth has slowed some, it remains well above historic averages.

More of the Same? In the fall of 2017, a seismic economic event occurred that affects every Americans wallet and has the potential to change the economic course of multifamily investing for the next decade and possibly longertax reform. I am not an accountant and dont play one on TV, so take this info for what its worth. I believe four main points in the new tax law have the most potential to affect the real estate industry. These should fuel additional investor demand and sustain the overheated multifamily market for a number of years. The National Real Estate Investor has a good article summarizing the new law as well. Here is a basic overview of each relevant point: Congress allowed the 1031 exchange law to remain mostly intact for real estate. The 1031 exchange was axed for some personal property investments, such as art work, auto fleets, and heavy equipment but remained in place for real estate related businesses.Tax rates were lowered for LLCs and S Corps from 35% to 21%. In addition to the lower tax rates, a 20% up-front deduction for business income is allowed.Carried interest on any property held for at least three years is now treated the same as capital gains and taxed at a lower rate, whereas before it was treated as ordinary income.Because the standard deduction was doubled, the value of mortgage interest and property tax deductions has been devalued. Congressional estimates suggest only 5-8% of individuals will now be able to take advantage of these deductions. The tax advantages of owning a home versus renting just vanished for majority of the population. This will lead to more people considering longer rental horizons. These new changes will do nothing but attract more investor dollars to an already-overheated multifamily market. I expect nothing but continued craziness and overblown prices. Short of a complete economic meltdown, there is not much on the horizon that will slow the multifamily freight train. Probably the most significant roadblock is rising interest rates. The Fed has indicated it will increase interest rates several more times over the coming months. This move will undoubtedly expand cap rates, creating a drag on multifamily price points. However, the momentum of commercial multifamily real estate is so great that even this will have a muted effect. I expect the multifamily run will continue, although at a more tepid pace for the next several years. Due to a lack of reasonably priced multifamily assets, our multifamily investment firm has begun to look to other asset classes such as self storage to generate ample returns for our investors.
