Shashi's Friend Group
[PIC]
DESCRIPTION: Shasi's friend group. Just him and some typical boys.
PROJECT: Mydan
MEMBERS:
Shashi Kamilla's 8th-grade second-nephew. Shashi's quiet at first, but he loves socialising and warms up to people pretty quickly. With his parents going out a lot of the time and his Aunt Kamilla asleep for half of the day, he gets pretty lonely. In his spare time he enjoys playing ball sports and video games. (Click here for the rest of his profile)
Mensa Shashi's human friend that he knew since primary school. Interestingly, Mensa wasn't that close with Shashi until they found out they were attending the same high school together. Now, they're like brothers. Mensa is restless and easily excitable - he's up for any adventure and mischief. Every day's a day off. Trouble is his middle name. It's a good thing he has his friends to keep him on track.
Trippa A turerie kid that helps man the sari sari store nearby Shashi's house. Being the top of his class and already working part-time, Trippa's got a pretty high reputation. Unfortunately, all that has lead his outlook on the world to being cynical and gloomy, despite being only in 7th grade. He uses the pockets of spare time that he has playing music and hanging out with his less gloomier friends.
Colby A friendly human kid who moved from Kanynak to Niatheia at the beginning of X762. Colby stands out from the group of four boys his appreciation for the more typically "feminine" things in life. Despite his talkativeness and cheerful energy, he really only enjoys the company of only a few close friends. A true introvert through and through.

We are back!
Right! So it's been ages since my last update log, but that's (once again) not to say that I haven't been working on anything since then. I've been working on more of the concepts side of my SHP project, as well as Mydan, the story that comes before that one.
I also should mention that I've been focusing on my Mydan project a lot more, recently, particularly because I really want that one to come out before SHP does. It's a lot tamer when it comes to story and characters, so I feel like I could get this one out pretty soon. I just got to get some concept art out of the way. Really excited, and I hope I actually live up to my word!

When we are just about to walk out the door, @vickiknits will ask “how many cameras are you taking?” The first time I asked her why, and her reply was “I need to know how many knitting projects I need to bring!” When we drove to the coast, a two hour drive might actually take three, depending on the light, the sky, or people we meet, how many cameras I’ve brought, and what might be a “one sock long drive” may turn into a pair of socks and a knit hat drive. I always admired @life photographers, and yesterday @kenhawkinsarchive stopped by and over a cup of coffee we shared some stories; many were mostly true. He knew Carl and Shelly Mydans and I had mentioned meeting them in San Francisco at an @asmpsanfrancisco meeting and asked how Carl was able to keep all his captions and film straight as he was working during World War Two? Shelly was at his side and if he was using three cameras, she knew the lenses and films in each, and noted everything he did. They were also captured together by the Japanese and spent two years in prison before they were released. I now (usually) only carry two cameras, but it’s because I find this world and the people I meet, too amazing to be limited to one image. As it is, each photograph is only a blink of an eye, showing just the smallest glimpse of a very wide world, and all the while I’m in deep admiration of the journalists who risk their lives. ‘The Bitter Years’ was the title of a seminal exhibition held in 1962 at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, curated by Edward Steichen, and 2012 marks its 50th anniversary. The show featured 209 images by photographers who worked under the aegis of the US Farm Security Administration (FSA) in 1935–41 as part of Roosevelt’s New Deal. The Great Depression of the 1930s defined a generation in modern American history and was still a vivid memory in 1962. The FSA, set up to combat rural poverty, included an ambitious photography project that launched many photographic careers, most notably those of Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange. The exhibition featured their work as well as that of ten other FSA photographers, including Ben Shahn, Carl Mydans and Arthur Rothstein. Their images are among the most remarkable in documentary photography – testimonies of a people in crisis, hit by the full force of economic turmoil and the effects of drought and dust storms. The Bitter Years celebrates some of the most iconic photographs ofthe 20th century and, since no proper catalogue was produced at the time, provides a whole new insight into Steichen’s impact on the history of documentary photography.

Baxas lore & stuff
Tumblr media
Here is an alien race from one of my worlds: Baxas.
Tumblr media
Fun fact: Due to their appearances sharing similarities to demonic figures in some Earthling religions, there have once been tensions between baxas and humans. In the present time, they're more ok together, but their history together isn't something they can forget lightly.

Fun facts about Kamilla
Ongoing and spoiler-less
Characters of inspiration:
Lloyd (MOTHER): Kamilla is a socially-inept nerd who's picked on by her coworkers and other groups she's associated with. Also a weakling and quite a sissy. Somehow optimistic.
Tumblr media
Beht (Spectrobes: Origins): A shady character that does illigal stuff to make a living. May be book-smart, but stupid nearly everywhere else.
Tumblr media
Queequeg (Moby-Dick): Sort of the "heir" to her mother's position in the workplace. Which she doesn't want for her life, so she takes any opportunity to get away. She's not the type to really care if she's "weird" compared to everyone else.
Tumblr media
Mike (GROUP 5): Of the few groups that she's part of, she is always near the bottom of the hierarchy. The world around her doesn’t seem to want anything good for her at all. Even so, she tries to keep going, even though not many people will miss her if she ever disappears.
Tumblr media
Jeena (Spectrobes series): Techician/Mechanic girl. Kinda a know-it-all. What can I say?
Tumblr media
Robin (Iconoclasts): (Also) A mechanic girl xD
Tumblr media
Relationships:
Shashi, her nephew: - To Shashi, she's basically like how Teddy is to Ninten in MOTHER - A bad influence, but also a good friend (and helper-of-homework)
Ruwei - Instant buddies - Their bond inspired by: Nana & Popo (Ice Climber), Quote & Curly (Cave Story), Rallen & Jeena (Spectrobes), Butobasu (Spectrobes), Simon & Kamina (Gurren Lagann)
Gemmen, Kiksi & Dee - [Later]
Mensa, Trippa & Colby, her nephew's best friends - [Later]

FARM SECURITY ADMINISTRATION IN VS (FSA) (1935-1943)
Arthur Rothstein 1915-1985 Fleeing a Dust Storm (1936)
Tumblr media
Carl Mydans (tot 1936)
Tumblr media
Mydans werd vervangen door Russell Lee
Tumblr media
Ben Shahn
Tumblr media
Dorothea Lange
Tumblr media
Walker Evans (FSA ‘35- ‘39)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alle fotografen kregen richtlijne opgelegd, als het ware een soort van scripts. Ook hadden ze geen rechten over hun negatieven, beelden die niet aan de richtlijnen voldeden werden geperforeerd.
