Now that Michael has broken the fandom on several occasions this week, it seems like the perfect time for another poll...
#good omens 2#michael sheen#welsh seduction machine#david tennant#soft scottish hipster gigolo#aziraphale#crowley#ineffable husbands#the way David/Crowley turns his head when he does it is keeping me up at night#i also think the line between character and actor is quite blurred in Michael's case#but we can now see how their connection informed the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley#also had to get a RHPS reference in the poll in honor of Michael's burning desire to play Frankie#recreational nipple caressing#ineffable lovers#gif by me#poll

i feel like some of the "references" listed on the house of 1000 corpses imdb page are a bit of a reach

not only is "who's your daddy" an extremely common phrase and was specifically him mocking the fact he's wearing denise's dad's skin, he also doesn't even say "slip me some sugar, baby" he says "c'mon sweetie, give the old man some sugar" once again in reference to him wearing her dad's skin.
#like yeah rob is notorious for references. duh. but i genuinely feel like some of those listed are a reach lol#there's also the one saying the victims getting a flat in rain and going to a weird place to have dinner is an rhps reference because#and i quote. “the one guy looks like riff raff” like okay yeah y'all are just stupid and reaching HARD.#captain's log#house of 1000 corpses

I mean, I'm not bi, but I'd definitely choose to get stuck in a gothic castle if given the opportunity
the question about the rocky horror picture show isnt "what the hell is happening?"
The real question is "how did so many bisexuals manage to get stuck in a gothic castle?"

Understanding The Left-Hand Path

The Left-Hand Path (LHP) in witchcraft and the broader occult tradition refers to a set of spiritual practices, philosophies, and paths that emphasize personal empowerment, self-deification, and the pursuit of individual freedom. The Left-Hand Path is often contrasted with the Right-Hand Path (RHP), which typically focuses on spiritual alignment with external moral or divine laws. Here are some key aspects of the Left-Hand Path in witchcraft:
• Self-empowerment: LHP practitioners typically focus on achieving personal power and mastery, often rejecting traditional religious or societal constraints. This includes embracing one's own desires, will, and inner strength.
• Individualism and Autonomy: The LHP emphasizes personal autonomy, with practitioners believing that they are their own authority and can shape their fate through willpower and self-determination.
• Rejection of Traditional Morality: LHP practitioners may reject conventional moral standards, particularly those imposed by mainstream religions like Christianity. They believe in creating their own ethical framework based on personal growth and enlightenment rather than obedience to external laws.
• Occult Knowledge and Rituals: The Left-Hand Path often involves the use of occult rituals, symbols, and magick to tap into unseen forces or realms. These practices might include working with deities or spirits that are considered "dark" or "unconventional" within mainstream religious contexts.
• Deification and Transcendence: A central aspect of the Left-Hand Path is the idea of self-deification—becoming one’s own god or embracing the divine within. This process often involves transcending the limitations of the material world and the ego.
• Exploration of Taboo or Forbidden Knowledge: LHP practitioners are often drawn to exploring areas considered taboo or forbidden by mainstream religions, such as the study of death, the afterlife, or working with spirits traditionally seen as "evil" or "chaotic."
• Darkness and Shadow Work: The LHP is sometimes associated with the "dark" side of spirituality, including shadow work, which involves confronting one's hidden, suppressed, or negative aspects to achieve greater self-awareness and healing.
While the Left-Hand Path is often misunderstood as "evil," it is more about personal transformation and embracing one's true self, free from societal or religious conditioning. Some well-known figures associated with the Left-Hand Path include Aleister Crowley, Michael W. Ford, and other occultists who focus on self-development and magickal practices.
It’s important to note that the Left-Hand Path can vary significantly in its specific practices and beliefs depending on the individual or tradition. Some practitioners might lean more toward spiritual enlightenment, while others focus on power dynamics and mastery over external forces.

Could you or any of your followers explain to me why half of Tumblr seems to think that the character Frank 'n' Furter from "RHPS" was deliberately written as a trans woman in a derogatory way?
(Please note I'm NOT referring to the 2016 remake with Laverne Cox which I haven't seen. All the discourse I've seen is about the original 1975 Tim Curry film.)
I'm a longterm gay British fan of it and always read the character as a cis pansexual transvestite. Yes, he's from the planet of Transsexual but so are two of the other characters and I've never seen anyone read either as transgender.
I know not every queer person will like it and that's fine but it makes me sad that some think it was created to "shit on trans women" when tbh it was more of a self-insert thing for its creator. And they seem to ignore that everyone loves Frank. They wouldn't have cast someone so charismatic if the point was just ridicule.
--
A sweet transvestite, even.
From transsexual Transylvania-Ah-Ah-Ah-AHHHHH.
The answer to your question is that Tumblr is full of idiots who cannot handle a man in women's clothing. There's also a massive push to collapse every form of Gender Stuff into one understanding of transness. The concept of a transvestite is pretty alien to a lot of people around here.
The other answer is that gleeful horny insanity is read by these people as scary outsiders, not a core tenet of queer culture. Frank doesn't get a happy ending that goes "This is the hero, btw", so he must be a villain we're supposed to hate.
Zero media literacy, zero knowledge of queer community history.
As usual with this kind of thing.

On Love
My best summary of the new Contrapoints video, if you're not a "watch a three hour video about Twilight" sort of person:
It's not about Twilight. It's about desire. The first chapter is the obligatory "yes there is a predatory dynamic in this, but let's talk about the role of fiction and fantasy, because it's fiction and not reality."
There is some discussing about what erotic love and desire truly is. Distinction between "yearning" (a lack for an abstract quality) and "craving" (which can be concretely satisfied.)
A really excellent dive into radical feminist theory about the predator-prey, hades-persephone dynamic that rules over romantic fiction. How the default heterosexual paradigm really does celebrate oppressive paradigms. Spoiler alert: it's not JUST fiction, there is a social context.
An argument that violence and death really are part of sexuality.
Mostly reframing the radical feminist theory in terms of a relationship to christianity as opposed to patriarchy.
An observation that women often consume this type of romance by identifying with the predator role because roles are inherently versatile and complex. Musings on the nature of masculinity and femininity as a ying/yang dichotomy.
There's a lot of research and nuance and jokes. A particularly good RHPS reference. Holding up a pair of scissors at an opportune moment. I don't think every single take is presented from the MOST based perspective but there was enough "this is what I've been saying" that I recommend the video overall as a source discussing fantasy and romantic love.
