Situated on a dramatic limestone cliff in the Golden Vale, the Rock of Cashel is a breathtaking symbol of Ireland's medieval era, boasting an unparalleled collection of historical sites. Here, you'll find everything from an ancient round tower and a towering high cross to a Romanesque chapel, a majestic Gothic cathedral, an abbey, the Hall of the Vicars Choral, and a 15th-century Tower House — easily the most impressive set of medieval structures you can find in Ireland.
The Rock of Cashel has a rich history as the stronghold for the kings of Munster, adding layers of myth and legend to its already fascinating story. It's believed that St. Patrick made his way here to convert King Aenghus to Christianity, marking a defining moment in Ireland's spiritual history. Moreover, it was on this very ground that Brian Boru was declared High King in 978, highlighting Cashel's significance as a political powerhouse.
In 1101, the Rock underwent a significant transformation when it was handed over to the church, quickly becoming a key religious center in Ireland. Among its surviving structures, Cormac’s Chapel is particularly noteworthy, home to the only Romanesque frescoes left in Ireland, showcasing the deep historical and cultural impact of this site.

Main Masterlist
Part 1
Eddie looked to you, hoping to see you looking up at him and smiling that way you do whenever he uses his renaissance voice. Instead he met your panicked eyes.
“Hey Henderson,” Jason called from across the cafeteria. “What happens now? Should we call an ambulance?” Andy shoved at his shoulder playfully and chortled alongside Jason.
Panic gripped you as you connected the dots.
“Yeah,” you wheezed, “call an ambulance.”
All the Hellfire members whipped their heads toward you, witnessing an angry rash spreading across your skin and your breathing becoming audible as you tried to suck in as much oxygen as possible.
Eddie’s heart clenched painfully as he looked down at you, remembering the severity of your allergy after Dustin explained it to him one time. Still, Eddie was taken aback by the speed at which your symptoms were progressing.
You reached a hand out to Eddie as the choked coughs took over. He ignored your hand in favor of catching your body before it hit the ground. With trembling limbs he carefully lowered you to the grimy tile of the cafeteria floor.
“Fuck,” Eddie cursed, “Dustin! What do we do?!”
Dustin had froze. Panic set in as he watched his older sister struggle more and more to take in a full breath. A small crowd began to gather and the excited chatter of the cafeteria simmered into hushed whispers and gasps. Everyone was watching, and not in the way Eddie was used to.
“Henderson!” Eddie snapped.
At that, Dustin went to work. “Mike, go call 911! Lucus, see if the nurse has an epipen. GO!” The sheep dispersed. Dustin picked up your bag with trembling hands and began digging through your books and school supplies, searching for the epinephrine injector he swears you kept in there.
Eddie turned his attention back to you, trusting that Dustin had the rest handled. At the look of panic in your blotchy and swollen face he almost froze too. A chilling dread spread through his veins as you began clawing at your throat, doing everything you could to open your airways.
“Hey, hey, hey, look at me princess. You’re gonna be alright, gonna be just fine, you hear me? D-Dustin will getchu your meds and you’ll be good to go,” Eddie rambled, trying to convince himself just as much. He gently cradled your warm face and stroked your hair to try and soothe you.
With every second passing you became closer and closer to death. Eddie looked up in desperation. His red-headed neighbor (Max, he thinks her name is) snatched the backpack out of a distraught Dustin’s hands and turned it upside down, emptying its contents. Robin was there too and put a comforting arm around your brother while Max took over the search for the injector. Eddie was vaguely aware of a teacher trying to pry him off of you but he’d risk getting expelled for shoving a teacher if it meant staying by your side.
“Got it!” Max exclaimed, holding the orange and clear tube triumphantly. She slid to her knees on your otherside, not hesitating to jam the needle into your leg and holding it there.
Eddie flinched at the force it took to inject you. You took your first full breath, allowing him to take one as well. Your eyes were drooping slightly as the medicine was introduced into your system.
“Hey, there she is,” Eddie said gently.
Your tired eyes met his and he could’ve sworn the corners of your lips twitched upwards.
The paramedics arrived and Eddie hesitantly let you go so they could treat you. It was a blur of navy blue and red as they hooked you up to numerous tubes and slid an oxygen mask over your head.
You became slightly more alert at the sight of strangers surrounding you as the stretcher clicked into place, raising you a couple feet off the ground. You moved your head tiredly trying to catch sight of anyone you knew. Anyone to comfort you.
“Dustin, go with her,” Eddie told the curly haired boy. He looked up at him with wet eyes that clenched at Eddie’s heart. “She needs you, go on.”
Eddie watched the determination emerge on the freshman’s face as he walked through the paramedics declaring that he was your brother, allowing him to be by your side.
Swallowing thickly past the dryness in his mouth, Eddie watched you get rolled out on the stretcher.
He turned numbly to see that Lucas and Mike had returned and started digging through your lunch, in an attempt to find out what it was that could’ve caused your reaction. As the two predictably began to bicker, Eddie grabbed the cup of applesauce and slowly brought the spoon out. To his horror, he scooped out a few small round nuts mixed with the smooth texture of the applesauce.
His darkened eyes snapped up, immediately finding Jason. He at least had the decency to look scared, his skin white as a sheet. True terror shining through as he came to realize the severity of what he did. He shook his head slightly, pleading with Eddie. For what, he wasn’t sure. But he could give a shit.
The grip on the applesauce tightened, causing it to tremble, before he launched it in Jason's general direction. A fire of rage lit up Eddie's entire being, consuming any reason or restraint within him.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?! You could’ve killed her!!” Eddie roared, the words ripping from his throat like a thunderclap.  Every fiber in his being screamed for justice, determined to ensure that no harm would ever come to you again.
“I-I-I didn’t think…I didn’t mean to-” Jason blubbered.
“Not good enough!” Eddie snapped. He charged forward, driven by the need to avenge your pain. Just when he was closing the distance between them a thick arm wrapped around his upper body. “LET ME GO!”
Eddie struggled against the firm grip that held him back from doing to Jason what he should've done a long time ago. If Eddie was strong enough, he could've saved you, stopped all of this bullying in its tracks before Jason had ever even looked in your direction. His strength never came from muscles or brute force, but from his anger—the primal need to protect those he loved. He was so consumed by his rage that a red haze blurred his vision. Or were those his tears?
“Eddie, man, don’t do this,” Doug said, doing his best to calm his friend.
“Please,” Eddie pleaded, losing some of his fight. “Just let me go.”
“Dude, if you get into a fight you won’t be able to see Y/N in the hospital,” the bassist whispered in Eddie’s ear. He looked over and saw Principle Coleman closing in on them, there wasn’t much time left. “We can handle it, just go while you can.”
A wave of overwhelming frustration washed over Eddie as the struggle against Doug’s hold diminished. Tears welled up in his eyes as his chest released his rage and tightened back up with helplessness and despair.
He didn’t let it consume him though, taking off in the opposite direction of the principle, his sheep following close behind.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the van ripped into the hospital parking lot, Eddie finally took notice of how many stowaways he had. Lucas, Mike, Max, Robin, and even Nancy all burst through the double doors at the back of his skunky smelling van and made their way to the emergency room entrance.
Eddie was the first one through the doors, eyes scanning the waiting area for his curly haired friend. What he wasn’t expecting to see was the one and only King Steve sitting with the boy.
Steve noticed them first, taking the lead on letting them know what’s going on. He explained that you’d be fine but the doctors are running some tests and getting you hooked up to the necessary machines. It’ll be a little longer before Eddie gets to see you with his own eyes.
Eddie turned on his heel and walked through the doors he just came through as Steve explained that your mom was called but was on a trip with her girlfriends and won’t be able to make it back until tomorrow.
The disinfected smell of the hospital only offered to heighten Eddie’s desire for a cigarette. He finds solace in the only coping mechanism he has under his belt, even if he knew it was bad for him in the long run. The stress of the day weighed heavily on him as he leaned on the brick wall of the hospital outside. The familiar routine of lighting up offered a good distraction, the only way to momentarily ease his anxiety.
That was until your brother found him. He silently stood next to him, not feeling the need to fill the silence with anything but the gentle breeze and the birds chirping in the distance. But it made Eddie feel uneasy.
“I’d offer you a smoke, but I don’t want to corrupt you more than I already have,” Eddie said with a sad laugh.
Ignoring Eddie’s comment, Dustin asked, “you remember that one time when Hellfire came over to my house for a session? When the theater kids needed the drama room at school?”
Eddie nodded his head slowly, releasing the smoke from his lungs as he did so.
“I was still in middle school so I had only heard about you from Y/N. She had this weird way of speaking about you. It was in a way I had never heard her speak about anyone before.”
Eddie’s heart punched against his ribs painfully, his insecurities taking over.
“She was nice enough to let me watch your campaign so I could get ideas for the campaign I was doing with Mike and Lucas, and our other friend Will. I think she regretted it because of the Reese's Pieces incident.”
Eddie couldn’t help but start chuckling embarrassingly at the memory. “God, that was so stupid,” he smacked his forehead in an attempt to stop his mind from reliving one of the most embarrassing moments of his life.
-
The Hellfire members flooded into your home, bringing chips, candy, and drinks to share. Your first time hosting the club was going great, until Dustin noticed the bag of Reese’s Pieces in Eddie’s hand.
“My sister is too nice to say anything but-” Dustin started.
“Stop, Dustin-”
“-we can’t have those in the house.”
Eddie’s eyebrows pinched beneath his bangs, “what? Why not?”
“She’s allergic to peanuts.”
Before you could roll your eyes at your little brother and reassure him it was fine, Eddie turned and chucked the bag out your kitchen’s open window leaving you standing there in shock and Eddie horrified by his own impulse.
-
“I think that’s when she fell in love with you.”
Eddie’s head whipped over to Dustin. The kid had the audacity to look smug after completely shattering his world view. His mind spun with the revelation.
Love, a word so potent, was now intertwined with his thoughts of your relationship. Eddie knew he liked you, a lot, but his brain never brought him to love. He replayed moments from your friendship in his head, searching for the signs, trying to decipher if Dustin was telling the truth. If the sentiment was truly real. A mix of surprise and uncertainty overwhelmed him, but there was also something warm and hopeful there. It was both exhilarating and terrifying.
He needed to see you and hear it from you directly. A million thoughts and memories raced through his mind, but one thing was clear–he needed to be with you, to tell you how he felt.

Mistletoe
short Christmas Steddie fic I wrote while writing part 6 of Hide Your Heart that kinda turned into Byler at the end but oh well
“Mistletoe. You know what that means” Dustin waggled his eyebrows as he nudged Steve, pushing his way beside him at the kitchen counter.
Steve had come to the kitchen to be out of the way and found himself watching their group—his family—from afar, taking in the fact that they had beat Vecna and were all alive to celebrate Christmas together. At least he’d been doing that until Dustin spotted him.
“You’re gonna get a rash?”
He rolled his eyes, “No-”
“You’re allergic, dude.”
“I didn’t hang it!” Dustin burst.
“Then why are we talking about this?” Steve knew why, he just hoped that annoying the kid would make him drop it.
“Because! You’re here, there’s mistletoe,” Dustin gestured to the plant hanging in the living room doorway across from them, “Nancy’s here.” There it was.
“Look, Henderson, I don’t know where you got the idea that that was happening again but it’s not,” Dustin had seemed determined to get a confession out of him, no matter how many times Steve told him it was over, “We’re done, I don’t know what’s got you so sure about this but it doesn’t matter. Never gonna happen.”
Dustin deflated, just a fraction, “You just seem, I don’t know, happy.”
“It’s Christmas, everyone’s happy.” Steve deadpanned, only deflecting because he was happy, eyes scanning the room absentmindedly.
“Yeah but you seem different—like, honeymoon phase happy.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, man.” He mumbled, distracted.
“C’mon, Nancy’s great. She’s bossy and organized and all proper like you, she’s just your type!”
“Uh huh.” Steve
He heard the front door open earlier and the only person who wasn’t crowded into the Byer’s living room was—there. He glanced back in time to see dark, curly hair swim through the room, disappearing between bodies.
“You’re looking for her now!” Dustin cried.
“Yeah, that’s nice. Hey, uh, I’ll be right back.” He left Dustin, pushing the front of his hat down for good measure and ignoring his squawk of indignation.
“Steve! This isn’t over, Steve!”
Steve kept walking, sliding into the living room and trying not to draw too much attention to himself. He found Robin on the couch, arguing with Mike about who knows what, and took the spot on her left.
“What’s going on?”
“Mike’s having boy troubles.” Robin stage whispered to him.
“I am not!” Mike shot back.
“Okay then tell Steve what you told me.” Robin challenged.
Mike ducked his chin, mumbling under his breath.
“What?” Steve leaned forward to hear him better, “You gotta speak up, man.”
“I said,” Mike seethed, “I was helping the Byers decorate and maybe, kind of, accidentally told Will we were under the mistletoe.”
“Accidentally, right.” Robin teased.
“Well, what’d he do?” Steve knew Will had been nursing a long time crush on Mike and he knew Mike was working through his own sexuality.
Mike turned away, mumbling again.
“Wha—”
“He kissed my cheek!” Mike blushed, “He—I…and then I sort of ran off on him.” Mike groaned.
“Dude…Mike.” Steve sat back in disbelief.
“I know! I know! He’s been avoiding me the whole night and I don’t know what to do! I just—I don’t know how to tell him I wasn’t…like, I wasn’t mad that he kissed me. I wasn’t…oh my god. I want him to kiss me.” Mike’s eyes were wide, almost in fear.
Steve was no stranger to the fear. He’d dealt with it himself, maybe he was still dealing with it, but he had Robin and Eddie to help him, to help each other. Did Mike know he had them? Did he think he was going through this alone? Steve got an idea, it was risky and he would have to face the fear head on, but it would be worth it. It was also something he’d been thinking about for a while and now, with all of his friends—his family here, he could do it. He glanced around the room, searching for a familiar face in the chaos.
“I’ll be right back.” He whispered to Robin when he found him.
She squeezed his hand because she knew what he was doing, of course she did, they shared a brain, “Good luck.” She whispered.
He caught Eddie’s eye before stepping into the hallway unnoticed. He heard Eddie give Lucas some excuse about going to the bathroom before they were alone.
“I wanna tell them.” Steve said immediately.
Eddie’s eyes widened, “Okay. Okay, sure. They already know about me so this is all you, are you sure?”
“Mike just realized he likes Will,” Steve explained, “I need you to make sure they’re both in the living room when it happens.”
Eddie grinned, “What are you planning?”
His grin only widened when Steve whispered his plan.
Once they were back in the living room Steve made sure to stand in the doorway, trying his best to lean against it casually, no matter how nervous he was getting. Eddie left to the kitchen with the excuse of getting one of Mrs. Byers’ gingerbread cookies and when he came back he took a spot beside Steve. Now they just had to wait.
A minute later El perked up, “Oooh they’re under the mistletoe.” She sang.
“Tradition is tradition.” Eddie shrugged, leaning over to kiss his cheek before pivoting and connected their lips instead.
Steve pulled away expecting the shocked faces of his friends and family only to be met with various knowing smiles. Nobody seemed particularly surprised at this, not even batting an eye when they announced that they’d actually been dating for a while. All but two.
Will was blushing, trying very hard but failing to look away from Mike and Mike, Mike’s eyes were wide. He was staring straight at Steve and Eddie, eyes flicking between the mistletoe and the pair. He shot a glance at Will and his eyes widened even more when he was caught. Mike turned to Steve with a desperate look, almost pleading, so Steve dragged Eddie with him further into the living room and let their friends distract themselves with their questions as the boys slipped out of the room.
Steve bit back a smile when he saw they were heading for the back porch, a place that conveniently had its own mistletoe hanging. Steve surveyed the room, making sure nobody had seen them, when he caught Joyce’s fond smile following the younger boys. He wasn’t the only one, then.

show me those pretty white jaws (what wounds you’ve got)
written for Day 13: “Please stay” of @steddieangstyaugust
Mature | 3.8k | Major Character Death, Hurt No Comfort, POV Eddie
also read on ao3
Eddie realizes there’s something wrong when Steve stops next to him and Dustin instead of following Nancy and Robin.
“Steve?” Dustin frowns, looking at Eddie as if he knows the answer.
Eddie doesn’t know. Not until he looks over to the girls and sees their determined expressions don’t even flicker into concern.
“You’ll know what to do when you get to Vecna.” Steve says, seemingly oblivious of his confused audience, “Radio us when you’re at the house, wait for the bats to fly out, then go in for the flambé.”
“No duh. I got the fire, Nancy’s got her shotgun. Boom, boom” Robin rolls her eyes. Her tone is light, but her face hardens as she says next, “Make sure you and the two twindledees get out when the bats are over your heads.”
“Wait-” Eddie says, realization dawning on him as fast as Sisyphus’s boulder rolling back to the bottom of the hill.
“You stay safe too.” Steve smiles, smiles like he had just changed the course of his plans. Like he hadn’t paved over the tiny words that’s been whispering to Eddie on the drive back to Hawkins. “Vecna might have traps in his house. I mean, he could have a demogorgon guard-”
“We can handle it, Steve.” Nancy says, chin up.
“Hold on!” Eddie shouts. It finally captures Steve’s attention. Despite the shadows underneath, his eyes hold such intensity that Eddie’s voice briefly dies in his throat.
For better or for worse, Dustin is the one who asks, “Steve, why aren’t you going with Nancy and Robin? That’s the plan.”
Steve closes his eyes for a few seconds. When they open, the spark of determination fades into something disquieting. A type of tiredness that Eddie sees in his uncle time to time when things get tough and all they can do is push through.
“I’m not going with them. I’m staying with you and Eddie to distract the bats.”
Dustin immediately shrieks with protest, “Why the hell not?! You’re the strongest, like the tank and shit! You can’t just watch our asses and pretend that Max is going to be fine-”
“Dusty,” Steve cuts through his ran with a low voice that doesn’t even sound threatening. But somehow, much to Eddie’s growing disbelief, that shuts the kid up.
“I don’t think I can really walk any further or even swing an ax. I’m feeling way too hot and uncomfortable right now. Robin says it’s definitely a fever coming.” Steve picks at his jacket, his face scrunching with discomfort with he moves his arms. There were rashes too, Eddie remembers. They were all worried about the deep bites on his sides that Eddie forgot that Steve had also received some kind of shredding on his arms and back after being dragged into the barren lake.
Eddie wants to kick himself for fucking overlooking them. They’ve must been neglected for so long that he can’t imagine how much irritation and agony is under
“So I’m staying,” Steve continues, looking between Eddie and Dustin. “It’s a last-minute change, yeah, you got a point, Henderson. But I fully believe in Nancy and Robin to take down Vecna without me. Best I could do anyway is carry the heaviest shit.” He makes a rueful smirk but drops it soon after.
Eddie just stares at Steve like an idiot. His mind is utterly blank, whether from more disbelief or admiration or whatever clouds his judgement whenever Steve Harrington looks at his direction without malice.
Steve turns to the girls and nods at them. They nod back, with Robin giving a meaningful glance at him, before the duo turn on their feee and stride across the park to the devil’s den.
When the girls disappear into the treeline, Dustin speaks with a half-defeated tone, “You can… Steve, you can still-”
But Steve claps his hands together at them. Brows furrowed, jaw carefully clenched, no weariness to be seen. Just serious business. “Come on, we’re losing daylight. Let’s set up and go.”
“But it’s already nighttime.” Eddie says and mentally kicks himself.
Steve simply nods, “Exactly. Can’t waste time with lives on the line.”
They get the trailer boarded up as much as possible. With extension cords plugged in from the Rightside Up, the amps are placed on the roof. After they get the cue from Erica, Eddie connects his guitar (he still can’t believe it exists in the Upside Down like it was destined for an interdimensional rock and roll concert) and shreds Master of Puppets.
He watches his two-man audience as he plays. Dustin is headbanging along with a big toothy grin. Steve keeps diverting his attention between the skies and Eddie. Whenever his eyes land on him, Eddie can see the sheer disbelief on Steve’s face before the man shakes his head like a disappointed father even though he too breaks out an awed smile.
It makes Eddie’s heart swell twice more than its regular size every time. He harkens that energy into his performance, playing louder and faster to match his heartbeat.
Maybe the power of one-sided queer love will kill Vecna from this distance. Guy’s from the fifties so surely he’s homophobic.
“The bats are here!” Steve cries out.
Eddie manages to get through the final chorus before he regretfully throws the guitar to the ground and jumps back inside, Steve and Dustin at his heels.
After locking themselves into temporary safety, the three of them share a brief moment of amazement. Eddie’s jumping up and down, Dustin screaming at his face about how awesome he was, and Steve has this goofy grin on his face with his hand clamped over Eddie’s shoulder.
“That was really amazing, Eds.” Steve tells him, hazel eyes crinkled at the edges.
It’s not the first time Steve is touching Eddie, but it makes his pulse quicken again. Especially with how Steve just called him Eds, like they were already friends for years and not even a week. But Steve is looking at him like Eddie just hung the stars for him.
He’s incredibly tempted to kiss Steve on the plump lips right here, the threat of the supernatural end times and a fifteen year old in their presence be damned.
But Eddie doesn’t follow his gut instinct. He is fully aware that Steve’s straight as a telephone pole and still manages to date around even after his social fall from grace. Even if Steve likes him, it’s only because they’ve managed to be compatible together instead of clashing.
Besides, even if he did kiss the other man, Eddie’s ninety-nine percent sure it would cost their teamwork and the rest of the mission.
There’s a sudden storm of bangs around the trailer. Everyone jumps back, steadying their positions with the makeshift spears in hand as they stand with their backs.
Eddie tries to keep his breathing under control as the banging intensify outside, now joined by a rustling of wings and shrieks. His eyes flick from one boarded window to another. Nothing was getting in yet.
We’re still safe. Eddie thinks.
But not even a few seconds later, the bats shriek en masse and start breaking in.
It doesn’t take as long before Steve yells, “We’re getting out now!”
Dustin climbs the rope through the gate first. Eddie brandishes his spear at the shuddering door across the hall, flinching back at every splinter of wood. Steve’s hand is on his shoulder again and the man himself is pushing Eddie to the rope, yelling him to climb.
His arms shake from the effort, but Eddie doesn’t let go until gravity shifts and he falls back to his most preferred reality.
Dustin helps him up but Eddie keeps his eyes on the gate on the ceiling. “Steve, hurry up!”
Steve stays on the ground in the Upside Down, not moving. His gaze is focused elsewhere, something in the Upside Down trailer.
For a moment, Eddie’s blood runs cold. He’s back to the night of Chrissy’s death when his entire world irreparably changed. Steve isn’t moving and Dustin is screaming for Steve to climb before the bats come-
Steve’s frozen pose breaks and Eddie almost sighs in relief.
Then Steve drops his hands on the rope and swings the spear across it, slicing it in half.
Eddie barely has time to react. The rope falls on his face so he scrambles to catch it, but his attention is diverted between the sounds of Dustin screaming again and the sight of Steve shoving the mattress away with his foot.
Steve looks up - down - at him. His mouth moves but Eddie can’t hear him because what the fuck are you thinking, Harrington is running through his head so much that it’s blocking out the sounds in his ears.
Then Steve vanishes within a blink.
It takes him a second, but Eddie reacts fast.
He forgets about the robe because he doesn’t want to waste half a minute climbing back into the stupid gate. Eddie just grabs for one of the chairs and moves it so the front faces him while perfectly positioned under the gate.
He takes a few steps back, counts down to three, and sprints towards the chair.
Eddie keeps running once his feet are on the chair. He pushes with all his weight upwards and just manages to grab onto the slimy edges of the gate. His head is upside down with his hair curtaining around his face, but the rest of his body is not, the sensation of it being still rightside up causing a new kind of vertigo that Eddie does not want to experience ever again.
“Eddie, what are you doing?” Dustin yells at him.
“Push me up!” Eddie yells back.
The kid pushes his feet up and it’s enough to fall back into the Upside Down. The re-entry is painful. Because of the missing mattress, Eddie blacks out momentarily when he lands on his back on the hardened carpet, the air knocked out of his lungs. He thinks he hears a crack somewhere in the back of his skull.
But Eddie is back on his feet, grabbing one of the discarded spears on the ground. He looks up at the gate where Dustin remains standing anxiously in the warmer light. He points at Dustin, firmly stating one word, “Stay.”
Dustin looks like he’s about to cry, “What-?”
“Stay. I’m getting Steve back.”
And he turns and dashes outside into the Upside Down again, ignoring Dustin’s cries.
Lightning greets him first, mottling the ever-present dark clouds and the too-empty grounds with its red spotlight like a diabolical lighthouse. Eddie doesn’t know where to go. He just picks a direction where he thinks Steve might’ve gone and runs that way.
He almost calls out Steve’s name. Bites down his tongue and relies on his sight instead, just in case the bats would hear Eddie and come after him.
But he doesn’t hear anything. There’s no assemble of screeches that are demanding human flesh.
Even when he glances towards the skies, Eddie just sees the clouds. Not even a mismatch that contains a hive of fleshy wings or noose of tails.
It fills his chest with dread.
He hurries his pace.
This time, Eddie calls out for Steve.
Eerie silence responds.
He turns into a road that leads out into an asphalt clearing and stops at the sight of numerous dark lumps on the ground.
For a second, Eddie freaks out and thinks that the vines are expanding, filling into the cracks and ready to burst out as a level ten trap. But when he looks down, he sees floppy wings and limp tails. There’s a few open mouths, but neither bat shrieks or pounce at Eddie’s face when he gingerly pokes one with his spear.
It’s dead.
Eddie looks around again, finally registering the scene as what appears to be every bat in Vecna’s army lay unmoving, scattered around the grounds like party confetti. They all look like they just dropped while flying.
If the bats are dead, then that means Vecna is also dead, right?
But the spark of victory fizzles out just as it’s been lit, now replaced with a heavy, horrible question.
Where is Steve?
“Steve!” Eddie’s cry echoes, cut off by another rumble of thunder that quakes the ground under his boots.
Eddie resumes his sprint, zipping his gaze around the area, careful not to step on the dead bats. The tiny bodies keep increasing, more and more in piles
He freezes in his tracks when he spots a significantly larger lump just ahead.
Jesus Christ, of course, there’s a papa bat.
But where there should be wings are instead a pair of arms with human-looking hands. Its head is too stocky, with a wave of dark hair. The skin too pale to even be-
Eddie drops his spear and he runs right over to the body.
“Steve!”
He drops right next to the other man, scraping his knees against the rough gravel, more than ready to help Steve up and drag him back to the trailer and get back home. Except-
“Eddie?” Steve slurs, sounding more like the typical jock to drink four beers and try to sleep it off, not like someone who isn’t currently spilling blood out of his mouth.
He even blinks up at Eddie with bafflement wiping across his face, even though his right eyelid is gone and viscera streams down from the corner of the ruined socket, mixing with the blood to form a horrible mimic of a teardrop.
Eddie takes a few deep breaths as his stomach clenches and rolls, threatening to dispose the remains of his last meal. After witnessing two people break their bones beyond logic in front of him, he should have gotten used to mutilated bodies by this point.
But Chrissy and Patrick were already dead when they dropped back to the ground. Steve is still fucking alive and breathing.
“What the fuck are you thinking, Harrington?” Eddie curses at him. He doesn’t want to look at Steve in the eyes but the rest of his face doesn’t look great either. One side of his face looks like it had been through a cheese grater. The scar around his throat seems to be splitting the skin with several threads clinging it together. A heavy chunk of his upper lip is torn, exposing some of his teeth and refreshing another stream of blood from the laceration when Steve smiles up at him. It looks so dark that it could’ve been mistaken for ink.
Eddie pretends that it is ink. For his own sake, it's just ink.
His brain immediately spits out a new scene: Steve Harrington taking a swig of some liquor, only for it to be an ink potion that tears out chunks of skin, and that's why he’s on the ground. Roll for damage and health check.
Eddie barks out a laugh. It sounds too high-pitched in his ears.
"What's so funny?" Steve's smile stretches further. It rips at his already-ruined cheek. The gushing eye socket looks like it's trying to stitch itself together when his eyes crinkle around the edges.
You're actually the worst person ever because nobody is sane enough to ask what’s funny after being eaten by demobats. Why of all people I had to fall for you?
“We’re getting you out of here.” Eddie says instead, shuffling his position so his hands are underneath Steve’s armpits. He lifts Steve up but the other man gives out a pained cry. Eddie almost sets him down but they have to get out of here now.
“Stop, stop-” Steve says as he gets dragged. It comes out gurgled and he coughs wetly. “Stop, it hurts-”
Eddie already can’t take it anymore. He drops back to the ground, careful not to jolt Steve to agitate his injuries. Fuck, he had to be bitten everywhere else. But everything is so dark that Eddie can’t tell which spots are dirt and sweat or blood.
He knows he has to search Steve’s body to find them. But Eddie’s hands are already shaking and he has this very bad feeling that if he lets go to do so, Steve is going to pass away in front of him.
So Eddie readjusts his hold on Steve. Wraps his arms around Steve’s chest while Eddie lets the other man lean against his chest, bracketing his legs at Steve’s side.
His front is already getting wet.
Eddie glares up to the rumbling sky. Part of him wants to pray for a god to come down and do the hard part for him. But Eddie hasn’t prayed since sixth grade and his vision is becoming watery.
“The bats were leaving.”
Eddie looks back down to Steve. He’s still breathing but he sounds too raw and harsh. Eddie loosens his hold but Steve suddenly grabs on his wrist. His hand is warm, but the tips of his fingertips are numb. There’s something wet on his palm, sinking into Eddie’s exposed skin.
“What?” Eddie asks, managing to hold his voice together. His stupid heart is racing again. His throat is closing up like he’s the one who’s suffering.
“They were leaving.” Steve gulps. The laceration spits out a more drops. “I knew- I knew they were… going back. Nancy and Bobby… they would-”
Eddie can’t hold it in anymore. He drops his head down, pressing his mouth onto Steve’s scalp. Uncaring how he tastes the grime and copper in his stupid hair that made him so famous since it does a decent coverup of the salty liquid intruding his mouth. Even as he breathes in more nasty air, Eddie can let it slide because it’s Steve Steve Steve.
“Eddie?” He hears Steve ask with clear concern. It just makes him sob harder. Because of course he would ask if Eddie’s okay like he’s not fucking bleeding.
“Why?” Eddie spits into the dirty locks.
Steve makes a confused sound. Like they’re sitting together in class and he doesn’t understand a teacher’s question. Like he’s perfectly normal despite Eddie feeling like his soul is about to rip in half, one of the latter wanting to conjoin with Steve’s like in that one myth about soulmates.
“Why did you go? Why couldn’t you-”
Eddie stops himself. He knows now that Steve is in dire need of hearing positive feedback and not to be blamed for every time. But he doesn’t get why Steve is falling into this hero persona that Dustin hypes about him so much.
Why he charges into the danger that literally tears from the limb instead of retreating into safety.
Steve gasps softly, his breaths sounding more wheezy, “I had to… protect them. Give them time. In case…”
“What happened to protecting me? Me and Dustin? Why didn’t you stay for us?”
“You…” Steve returns his gaze on Eddie, his eye wide and imploring, “…we’re already safe.”
Steve gives him what seems to be an assuring smile, but it turns into a wince. And then Steve shivers violently and all Eddie does is hold him tighter, wandering one hand around to press on whatever feels the most bloodiest.
“Nancy and Robin are coming back right now.” Eddie says, more to himself. More of a plea than a determined possibility. “They’ll find us and help get you to a hospital. You’re going to be okay.”
“No…”
“You’re going to be okay, Steve. I didn’t fall for your handsome ass just to have you die in a goddamn hell dimension.”
“…you love me?”
Eddie freezes, realizing what he’s just said. He almost expects Steve to immediately punch him. But Steve doesn’t do that because he’s fucking man down. Yet Eddie expects a colder silence or anything that Steve wants to do nothing with him as he bleeds.
When he really looks for his reaction, Steve is wide eyed. But not with fear or disgust.
He looks elevated. Like this was his birthday wish finally come true or something.
The sight loosens Eddie a bit. He sighs, “Yeah. Fuck, yeah, I do. Biggest gay crush ever since I was fourteen years old.”
“How?” Steve whispers, his tone unchanging.
Eddie shakes his head, “Doesn’t matter. You’ll get back with Nancy anyway.”
“Wha… I don’t…” Finally there’s the furrow in his brows as Steve shifts into confusion. He gives out a quick hacking cough before he says, “Don’t love her.”
“I saw you, man. You and her. You both deserve a second chance.”
“No. I don’t…” Steve swallows twice, coughs, then swallows again.
He looks back up at Eddie again, his lacerated smile growing wider with a weird glint in his eye, “Besides, I got my lover with me all along.”
Eddie stares at him while the words roll around his head. Then they screech into a halt before slamming into a wall.
He almost runs a hand over his face before remembering how stained his hands are. It doesn’t the stop exaggeration in Eddie’s voice as he mutters, “Jesus Christ, Steve. You’re telling me I should have just risk it and ask you out last summer when you still had that sailor uniform?”
“Fuckin’ hate that thing…” Steve mutters ruefully, but he’s laughing. Laughing like he’s going to live after all.
For a moment, they laugh softly together. Better to pretend they were on some cozy picnic date instead of going through one of the worst nightmares in Eddie’s life.
Steve’s skin regains just a teeny shade of color and it reignites the hope in Eddie’s chest.
Then he squeezes Steve’s hand with tight assurances. “We’re going back to the gate. Have to move you.”
“No, no, no no-” Steve moans, repeating the words as loudly as his poor throat can risk it. It breaks Eddie’s heart but he has to be committed this time. He can be the hero this time.
But when he stands up and lifts up Steve’s torso, he hears a visceral rip. It’s a small sound but when you’re one of only two humans in an empty land, it’s almost deafening.
And then Steve starts choking.
“Shit, shit, shit!”
He gets back on the ground, gently but quickly changing Steve’s position so he’s laying across Eddie’s lap, arms still wrapped around his shaking body. Eddie presses a hand on the gushing wounds on Steve’s face, but the choking dissolves into wet coughing. He feels every wheeze on his palm as Steve’s breathing weakens.
“Steve, look at me. Steve, hey, hey. Stay with me, okay. Please stay! Stay with-!”
Steve latches a hand around his wrist, pulling Eddie close enough to the growing metallic smell.
His lips are a splotchy dark. Eddie almost leans just to memorialize his first and last kiss with Steve Harrington, blood and all.
He doesn’t though.
Steve’s eye is wide, almost bulging out of his skull from the strain of his following words, “L-look- after the kids- R-Robin-”
Whatever else Steve wants to say never comes. His grip abruptly goes lax and slowly falls away. Eddie stares in horror as Steve’s eye glazes over and then there is nothing behind it at all.
Everything comes to a standstill.
An eternity passes before Eddie droops his weight onto Steve’s chest, hoping to catch any remains of his warmth.
It feels like he’s already clenching onto the dirt of a grave.

Problems With The Heart
Tumblr media
Greg House x Dr Anna Harding (OFC)
Story Masterlist
Chapter 28 - Foreman’s Mistake
The only way anyone might have known House and Anna broke up for good is if they had been told by one of the two of them personally. No department suffered, in fact even with Anna running both radiology and cardiology, there was no evidence that either of them was suffering any kind of personal crisis. Anna wasn’t seen by many of her colleagues, she was too busy and also had lunch in her office. Wilson noticed she’d lost more weight than usual, but he didn’t dare bring it up.
She’d requested a week off once Henderson was back and able to work. House asked Wilson about it, but he was clueless.
‘I don’t know where she is, she’s probably in the Bahamas or something.’ Wilson said, not bothering to guard his food from House.
‘She already went to the Bahamas when she was thirteen.’ House shook his head. ‘She doesn’t go to the same place twice.’
‘Why are you so concerned with where Anna is? I thought you and Cuddy were hitting it off?’ Wilson asked, trying to assess his expression. ‘Do you miss her?’
‘Rock climbing.’ House said, getting up to leave and Wilson was left wondering if he should have called Anna to check in.
For the next week, House sent Foreman to help out in cardiology, claiming he’d gotten a request from the department, but Wilson knew better, knew that House secretly missed Anna to the point that even Cuddy was starting to notice.
Wilson didn’t have an answer for her, but Anna was back soon enough and had a few scrapes and bruises indicating she had in fact been rock climbing for a week. She looked good, healthy and her department had only lost on patient that week.
Wilson decided to drop in on House who was having a little difficulty with his new recruit, Masters.
The woman in question was walking into the office with Foreman after running some tests.
‘Okay, give me the good news.’ House said, just as Wilson had arrived. ‘What are you doing here?’
‘You were right, she was rock climbing all week,’ Wilson told him. ‘How’d you know?’
‘Lucky guess.’
‘Did you call her?’ House gave him an eye roll. ‘Of course not.’
‘If you’re talking about Dr Harding,’ Foreman interrupted. ‘She was in Red Rock all week. One of the nurses said she was going to Vegas to get away from people. She likes the outdoors, it’s the most logical place she’d go for time off.’
‘Are you talking about Dr Anna Harding, the cardiologist?’ Masters said excitedly.
‘Annabelle to her parents.’ House nodded sarcastically.
‘She’s kind of a legend.’
‘A legend?’
‘Yeah, she spoke a few times at my med school about heart disease, she always seemed so cool as well, really calm in the face of pressure.’
‘Let me guess, you wanna grow up to be like her?’
Masters didn’t answer, finally catching on to House’s mocking nature, but Wilson was the first one to spot the woman herself storming down a corridor.
‘House, did you do anything to upset Anna?’ He asked quickly.
‘No, why?’
‘Where the hell is Foreman?!’ Anna yelled walking into the office, she looked like she’d just had a rough morning.
‘What’s wrong?’ Foreman asked calmly.
Anna was holding a file open. ‘Did you change Mr Grant’s meds to include Epinephrine?’
‘Mr Grant?’
‘Room three sixteen.’ Anna wasn’t messing around, she was furious.
‘Oh yeah, I did,’ Foreman’s demeanour wasn’t helping his position. ‘I suspected your initial diagnosis of heart disease was wrong considering the patient also presented with a rash underneath his kneecaps.’
Anna’s knuckles were turning white. ‘What, in God’s name, gives you the right to even go near any of my patients?’
‘You were off for the week, someone thought you could do with some help covering.’ Foreman was far too smug.
‘Foreman-‘ Wilson tried to intervene.
‘Don’t you dare try and help him.’ Anna snapped, putting Wilson in his place. ‘I am fully aware of how you ended up in my department the last week and don’t think I’m not House, but if you had cared to actually look at the rash or even the back of the chart, you would have noticed he has a severe skin condition which had nothing to do with the heart disease.’
‘It’s unusual for someone to be in the hospital for a prolonged period of time if two symptoms aren’t connected.’
‘No.’ Anna breathed, she was almost laughing she was so angry. ‘It’s unusual for a case to land on your desk if two symptoms are unconnected, but in my department, heart disease is sometimes just heart disease.’ Wilson had a bad feeling. ‘So congratulations, your arrogance has just cost a twelve year old girl her only remaining parent. You proud of yourself?’
The mood in the room changed and even House looked as if he felt bad.
‘It was the epinephrine.’ Foreman concluded.
‘Well it wasn’t anything else.’
Anna went to leave.
‘I’m sorry.’ Foreman said, making her stop.
‘You’re sorry?’ She said.
‘Anna-‘ House tried to intervene.
‘What good is sorry?’ She didn’t stop. ‘You know what your problem is? You think you’re a better doctor than you are. You’ve become so well suited, brilliant even working under House, but when it comes to anything less than impossibly complex, you’re useless. Sometimes heart disease and a rash, is just heart disease and a rash. He was getting better, he would’ve had another ten years, enough time for his daughter to go to college and he could be there at her graduation.’ Anna took a breath, realising she’d probably gone a step too far. ‘Dr House the next time you decide you want to help out in cardiology, don’t. I don’t want to see him anywhere near my patients again.’
Anna left and the whole room was quiet. Foreman was distraught, but House was watching Anna.
‘You still admire her?’ He asked, Masters who just looked terrified.
House was glad Anna put Foreman in his place for a while, but it nearly cost him his life when the small pox case came around. Luckily Masters figured it out, though according to the young doctor, she and Anna had worked together to realise the cat on board the ship had lost its fur.
He knew Anna had been the one to figure out how he was dying, but she gave all the credit to Masters. House didn’t care that the credit had been given to someone else, he was just glad that Anna had taken an interest in keeping him alive.
He was glad she turned up to the wedding of the board member Cuddy knew was getting married. All the senior hospital staff were invited and Anna had turned up wearing the most gorgeous maroon dress, it was skin tight and she was hanging out with the nurse who worked in cardiology. Sophia was her name and she looked good, but Anna was something else. Cuddy could see him staring.
‘You should talk to her?’ Cuddy said. ‘Sophia looks like she’s getting along with that doctor from peads, Anna might want some company.’
‘She’d rather be alone than talk to me.’ House said, miserably.
‘Go and talk to her.’ Cuddy pushed him towards her.
House really didn’t want to, but he eventually wandered over to where Anna was sitting at the bar having a drink, alone.
‘Hey.’ He said, nodding.
‘Hi.’ She frowned, exhaling and really not wanting to talk to him.
‘You look nice.’
‘You too.’ Anna sighed. ‘We done? Can I go now?’
‘You can, or you can talk to me.’
Anna took a little pity on him and finished her drink, indicating a refill was needed.
‘You went rock climbing,’ House leaned on the bar. ‘How was it?’
‘Rocky.’ She said, thanking the barman for her drink.
‘Are you still playing the piano? Painting?’
‘No.’
‘Why not?’
‘No time.’ She sipped her drink. ‘We done?’
House realised that he just wasn’t going to get anything else from her and nodded. He felt the guilt overwhelm him once again and for some reason the thought of truly losing her was a little too much to handle.
‘You’re supposed to leave at this point.’ She said.
‘I’m still in love with you.’ He blurted out. He didn’t need to look to know she was angry.
Anna didn’t say anything, she just got up and left him at the bar. According to Wilson she left the party soon after he’d spoken to her.

"But that's how it is. Oh, it's miserable to be human. You get such queer diseases. Just because you're human and for no other reason. Before you know it, as the years go by, you're just like other people you have seen, with all those peculiar human ailments. Just another vehicle for temper and vanity and rashness and all the rest. Who wants it? Who needs it? These things occupy the place where a man's soul should be. Lust, rage, and all the rest of it. A regular bargain basement of deformities..." - Henderson the Rain King, Saul Bellow

In the Belly of the Giant (30/39)
Chapter 30
Joey was depressed, gloomy, and irritable. Despite his best efforts, Ray couldn’t cheer him up with his usual jokes and antics, or any sweets. Nothing could make Joey happy, except getting Eren back. His world had drifted into shadow without her light. He felt the possibility of finding her was slipping out of his hands, becoming more and more remote with each fading day. He was dying inside, a slow, agonizing, torturous death.
His initial excitement about his lead with the matching tattoos had faded. Thus far, on their patrols, Ray and Joey hadn’t found anyone with the same mark, despite hanging around near the warehouses on the bad side of town. The search of the warehouse itself hadn’t revealed any additional clues. The police had poked around in the other abandoned warehouses, and didn’t find any signs of illegal gang activity, only homeless people shooting up and squatters.
Joey was set back further when he brought his findings to the attention of the police chief. Chief Johnson informed him that the mere presence of a tattoo, while suspicious, wasn’t enough to detain anyone or bring giants in for questioning, even if the tattoo was tenuously affiliated with gang activity. It wasn’t sufficient to award the police license for searches and seizures or give them probable cause. The best they could hope for was to monitor any potential suspects they found with the distinctive mark on their hands, and catch them in the act of committing a crime. Joey was not thrilled with this cold, hard truth. He wanted to take action, not sit around and wait.
Interrogation of the suspects was similarly a dead end. Mr. Greenwood had prepared his men for such a contingency. They proved to be frustratingly intractable and tight-lipped, and refused to talk without lawyers present in the room. The lawyers worked for the gang and were slimy and savvy, making sure not to budge on anything. Joey wondered, in the back of his mind, if he would have been better off beating the crap out of Jake the Snake after all, his hated adversary. He didn’t want to make any rash decisions, however, or step on the toes of the police chief. He knew he was on a tight leash as it was.
With the walls closing in around him, he thought about the human woman Mr. Henderson had rescued out on the street. He wanted to question her, to see if she had any new information, but he didn’t want to scare her again to the point of making her pass out. He decided to call Mr. Henderson, to get an update. Perhaps he had coaxed her into revealing something that might turn out to be important. Joey dialed his number and waited as the phone rang.
When Mr. Henderson picked up the phone, he didn’t talk right away. Joey could hear laughing in the background, both the giant and the high-pitched melody of a woman’s laugh. Was that the human? After a moment of crackling static as Mr. Henderson adjusted the phone in his hand, he finally spoke into the receiver with a chuckle lacing his words. “Sorry about that, Joey, what’s going on?”
“Unfortunately, I don’t have any new updates to report. I just wanted to check in with you,” Joey answered.
“Oh,” Mr. Henderson said, sounding disappointed. “I’m sorry, Joey.”
“Is everything going okay on your end? How’s that human woman? Was that her I heard in the background?”
“As a matter of fact, yes. She’s doing very well. She talks now! And she’s really coming out of her shell. She’s a lovely woman.” Mr. Henderson seemed very enthusiastic, almost giddy. Joey had never heard the man, usually so calm and composed, talk with such eagerness in his voice. His behavior puzzled him.
“Do you think she’d be comfortable with me stopping by to visit, and asking her some questions? I really don’t want to frighten her like I did last time,” Joey asked.
“Um... let me ask her.” Joey heard indistinct conversation on the other end of the line, too hushed and garbled for him to distinguish any words. “She said she’d be okay with that. She does want to help Eren get home safely.”
“Okay, I’ll be there soon.” Joey hung up. He pondered to himself. Perhaps he should go on his own, without Ray, so he’d be less likely to frighten the poor human. He mentioned his thoughts to Ray and his partner agreed. Ray dropped him off at Mr. Henderson’s house and chilled out in the police cruiser, playing with his phone, while Joey went inside. Since he had called in advance, the door was unlocked for him. He knocked to alert to his presence and strolled in.
Mr. Henderson was lying flat on the couch, with Millie resting on his chest. They were animated, chatting and laughing with each other. Mr. Henderson was holding a bowl of popcorn over his belly and Millie was trying to toss big popcorn pieces into his mouth. He caught one in his teeth and Millie smiled and clapped with delight.
Joey cleared his throat to announce himself. Millie looked up and stiffened, her face whitening. Mr. Henderson set down the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table and cupped her in his hand to comfort her as he sat up. “Joey! Good to see you!” Mr. Henderson greeted him. “I figure a proper introduction is in order. Joey, this is Millie. Millie, this is Joey, my daughter’s boyfriend.” He held up his hand, with Millie in his palm. Millie was clearly nervous, but gave a polite little curtsy in greeting. Joey nodded his head respectfully, feeling self-conscious of how gigantic and intimidating he must look to her in his uniform. Though he didn’t intend to, he still towered over her with his great height.
He sat down cross-legged next to the coffee table, so he wouldn’t look quite so tall. Mr. Henderson set Millie down on the table so she could converse with Joey. She didn’t like being out of the safety of his hand and curled her body inward in fear, shaking slightly. She looked back at Mr. Henderson. “Milton…”
“It’s okay Millie. Joey won’t hurt you,” Mr. Henderson said gently, his eyes glowing warmly. He felt bad seeing her afraid, and was tempted to hold her again, but he knew she needed to get accustomed to being around other giants, particularly important people in his life like Joey, if she was going to live with him long-term. Millie looked up at Joey nervously.
Joey raised an eyebrow at Mr. Henderson. “Milton?”
Mr. Henderson chuckled lightly. “That’s my first name.” Joey adjusted his glasses and gazed down at Millie. She looked very different from the ratty, dirty, underfed human he first met at the hospital. She was clean, well-nourished, and, dare he say, beautiful. He glanced up at Mr. Henderson and smirked with a knowing look. The older man blushed pink, and that told Joey all he needed to know. He had never been very proficient at reading people, but his time in the police force had sharpened his skills in that regard. He understood now. Mr. Henderson was acting so strangely because he was in love. Judging by how clingy Millie was to her giant protector, she readily reciprocated those feelings.
“Millie,” Joey said, keeping his voice soft, “You know about Eren, right?” She nodded sadly. “I’m trying my best to find her, but I need some sort of lead. I hate to ask this from you, but I am desperate. Any detail you recall might be critical.”
Millie exhaled laboriously. “O-okay. I’ll try.” She avoided his eyes, opting instead to stare straight ahead at his uniform. “Um... so I was originally kidnapped on the human side of the wall. The humans brought me over to this side, and s-sold me to giants. They were wearing dark clothes and had their faces covered with black masks. They took me to an old warehouse, I don’t know exactly where.” She hugged herself, her body quivering at the memory. Joey gave her a moment. He was feeling hopeful. So far, her story was consistent with the same group of giant smugglers.
“They put that deplorable harness on me, and I was t-thrown into a c-cage...” Millie started to tear up. “I was there for days. It was agony. There was a giant who was always there. He smoked big cigars and wore fancy suits, I think he was the one in charge.” Joey had to assume she was referring to Mr. Greenwood. “I don’t remember the other giants as clearly, but he had two scary men who were especially loyal to him, whom he valued above the others. I think one was named... Jake? The other, I can’t recall his name, but he had a distinctive look to him. He had green eyes, red hair, and big white teeth.” The description didn’t match any of the giants whom the police had arrested. Whoever this man was, he must have escaped the raid. Joey would have to keep an eye out for the unknown giant.
Millie was becoming increasingly upset as the traumatic memories were dredged up in her mind. She was visibly shaking and crying. “Maybe we should stop,” Mr. Henderson suggested, but Joey shushed him and implored Millie to continue with a gesture of his hand. As painful as it was to see the poor woman suffering, she was giving him fresh details that might help him find Eren, his highest priority. He believed that he needed to push her further, regardless if he was causing her emotional distress.
“Go ahead, Millie,” Joey encouraged her. “Keep talking.”
Millie forced herself to speak. “Eventually, I was s-sold off to another g-giant...” She hiccupped through her tears, but choked out more of her story. “They gave him these p-pills, that enable humans to survive inside a giant’s stomach. He... would... eat me alive...” A deathly pallor came over her and she began to hyperventilate. She dropped to her hands and knees and broke out into a cold sweat. Her heart felt like it was going to burst out of her chest, it was pumping so hard. She felt like she couldn’t breathe. She was burning up, but her body was shivering uncontrollably. She was dimly aware that the giants around her were talking, but she could no longer hear them over the blood rushing through her skull. Nightmarish images flashed through her head: huge lips and teeth; a gigantic, wet tongue throwing her around; hot, crushing flesh; nauseating, humid darkness; swimming in acid; gurgling and churning and throbbing all around her. Wanting to scream, but nobody would hear her or help her. Panic seized her. The memories consumed her; she forgot where she was, could only see and feel the horrors in her mind’s eye surrounding her. She flailed and thrashed, trying to escape the blackened pit that devoured her whole.
Suddenly, a deep, soothing voice made it through the darkness to her, a giant voice that swelled around her and enveloped her in a warm embrace. “Millie. It’s okay. You’re safe. Everything will be alright.” Millie recognized the kind voice of her giant lover, Milton. She knew he could protect her against anything. She began to calm down. The tension left her muscles and the memories faded until she became aware of her surroundings again. The giant was holding her securely in one hand, with the other hand cupped over her, and his face close by, murmuring healing words to her. “Shhhhh, Millie. I’ll keep you safe.” He stroked her softly with his fingers.
Joey was standing further away, looking mortified at what he had done. He didn’t intend to push her to such an extreme limit. He gulped and began to apologize, “Millie, I’m so sorry, I-”
Mr. Henderson cut him off, politely but firmly. “That’s enough, Joey.” He continued to pet Millie to help calm her down from her panic attack, not even glancing at Joey.
Joey paused, but feeling flustered, persisted, “I didn’t mean to-”
“Joey.” Mr. Henderson finally looked up at him. “Leave now, please.” There was no anger in his words, but they still cut Joey to his quick. The younger giant hung his head and retreated in shame, without another word. He trudged over to the police cruiser waiting outside for him and entered, shutting the door hard.
“So how’d it go?” Ray asked, distracted by his phone.
Joey smacked his forehead against the dashboard in frustration and lay there facedown. “Ray, why am I such an idiot?”

The case for Sofyan Amrabat
Manchester United actually seem to have their arse in gear this transfer window - a good sign in the days post-Woodward but something we were unsure of given one good window prior doesn't prove a football management team is competent.
Tumblr media
Mason Mount has already been signed and handed the no7 shirt. The signing of André Onana to replace David De Gea looks set to be completed in the next 2-3 days, Zion Suzuki has popped up out of nowhere which is almost certainly a sign he's coming in, and the Hojlund rumours are still going on - with Mason Greenwood potentially a loanee going the other way.
These are all good signings for positions in dire need, but the one position we're possibly ignoring is another defensive/holding midfielder. Manchester United are HEAVILY reliant on Casemiro to be the calm pivot player in the middle of the pitch orchestrating the recycling of the ball through the red ranks.
United's form with Casemiro out suspended or injured last year was notably worse, and in the words of Darren Bent: "When he's not there, you notice a big difference".
Tumblr media
Casemiro's form built up nicely throughout the season but he's not shy of a strong - or rash - tackle, and that comes with risk. United lack an able substitute for his position and role, and for a team looking to solidify its top four position in a league with Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Liverpool all vying for the spots, as well as trying to close the gap on treble-winning neighbours Man City... you can't be that vulnerable in squad depth.
Fred and McTominay are both no8s, if not perhaps a 10 in McTominay's case. Fred is a shuttle player. High energy, good intent, but crap at tackling and complicated play. McTominay is strong, has good stamina, can score a tidy goal, but his awareness and positioning lack.
Mount is a new, flexible signing but he's a box to box midfielder at most for defensive actions. He's a pressing attacking player. Instead, United need to sign an actual CDM - or someone roughly in that mould.
This is where Sofyan Amrabat makes so much sense. Aside being very much affordable, Amrabat had a stellar world cup and Europa Conference League. He plays short, safe, and is a hyper vigilant midfielder. He's not one to play a teammate into a bad spot, or land them in trouble with a hospital pass, and his awareness counters the hard presses of better teams. Aside being a good rotation with Casemiro, this could also be a good partnership WITH him behind Bruno/Mount in tougher games like Anfield or the Etihad.
Tumblr media
His statistics show that Casemiro's more capable of winning the ball back, but given his very high pass completion rate - 98% of which were forward passes! - I do wonder if that stat is skewed by the fact he's in possession and retaining it more than most and more than we are currently, so we're not seeing the tackling.
Ultimately our top 2 priorities are GK and CF, even if we did get Mount in already. That was just a surprise opportunity. Could we do a deal for Amrabat? For sure. 100% he'd want to come, we know ETH likes him, but we're yet to sell anyone and generate additional funds. If we can sell Elanga, Fred, Maguire, Henderson, Bailly, Telles... then we can look at extra signings like Amrabat.
I really hope we do make a move here because we'd be stupid to rely on Casemiro staying disciplined or the emerging Kobbie Mainoo who can play most CM positions but it still a super raw talent. We need an Amrabat, or perhaps Florentino Luís or Lavia.
Somebody to help share the burden has to be the next objective after concluding deals for Onana and a striker, and the sequence of transfers and the pace of them - especially considering the imminent pre-season tour - will be a test of United's new management and whether the club really is back from its banter era.

William Shakespeare was an actor, a poet, and a playwright. He is still one of the most popular figures in the literary field many decades after his demise. His expertise in poetry earned him several titles in the field. For example, he was fondly referred to as the ‘Bard of Avon’ and the ‘national poet’ (Henderson 12). Most of his popular works were produced in a span of about one decade. The period referred to started from 1589 and ended in 1613. He mainly focused on comedies and histories. “Much Ado About Nothing” is one of Shakespeare’s most prolific comedies. As already indicated, this literary icon was a successful playwright and poet during his time. His popularity rose considerably in the 19th century when his plays became well known. Many students of literature have performed and interpreted his writings over the years. Shakespeare addressed a range of themes in his plays. They included the themes of love, death, and human nature in general. The theme of inconstancy is prominent in his “Much Ado About Nothing.” Many instances of inconsistency are highlighted in the play. In the current paper, the author addresses this theme in the context of a quote drawn from the work. An Analysis of the Theme of Inconstancy in the Play “Much Ado About Nothing” In the play, Benedick, one of the characters, is quoted by Shakespeare, saying, “…for man is a giddy thing, and this is my conclusion” (Shermer p. 86). An analysis of this line reveals the inconsistent nature of mankind. The term ‘giddy’ refers to the aspect of being impulsive. Impulsiveness, on its part, indicates a situation where someone acts on instincts without planning. Impulsive individuals rarely take the time to consider the consequences of their choices. Such individuals are not consistent in life. On the contrary, they seem to change their mind from time to time. The quote “for man is a giddy thing” (Shermer 86) is Benedick’s description of the inconsistent and unreliable character of the man. The giddy nature of mankind is evident throughout the play (Shermer 86). Shakespeare illustrates some of the characters as acting on instincts. A case in point is Don John, the bastard prince. He is the brother to Don Pedro. It appears that his major objective in life is to humiliate his sibling. As a result, he attempts to create hatred between Don Pedro and Claudio. He tells the latter that Don Pedro is attempting to woo Hero. However, he fails in his mission. The misunderstanding he has created between the two is quickly resolved. In spite of the setbacks, Don John is determined to revenge against his brother. He accuses Hero of infidelity. He goes ahead to prove his claims by letting the duo witness Borachio enter Hero’s bedchambers. His plans are successful, and he is in a position to derail the wedding plans. A critical analysis of this character reveals that he is driven purely by his quest for revenge (Buccola 91). He fails to weigh the consequences of his actions on himself and on other people around him. For example, his actions result in a break-up between Claudio and Hero. At the end of the play, John pays for his treachery following his capture. Individuals who act on instincts end up making rash decisions in life. For example, Claudio portrays ‘giddiness’ when he declares his love for Hero. He meets Hero for the first time and falls in love. He even declares his intentions to court her by making it known that he is serious (Buccola 91). Moments later, Claudio discloses to his friends Benedict and Don Pedro that he intends to marry Hero. The decision is hasty since he has not even taken the time to know Hero. However, this does not stop the two from engaging each other. They fall in love and finalize their wedding plans. Claudio’s hasty decision to announce his love for Hero leads to a number of problems for the couple. Distrust takes root, wreaking havoc to their marriage. For example, Don John finds it easy to come between the two. When he accuses Hero of infidelity, Claudio is easily swayed. As a result, Hero is publicly humiliated by Claudio on their wedding day (Buccola 91). The move by Claudio to disgrace Hero is another instance of human inconstancy. It is apparent that he acts on instincts. He is determined to punish her without taking into consideration the impacts of his actions. He does not even question the allegations made by Don John (Buccola 91). His decision leaves Hero devastated. He risked his alleged love because of his unreliable nature. The love could have come to an end as a result of the baseless claims. Persisting Inconsistencies in the Play Inconstancy simply means inconsistency. The theme is related to the ‘giddy’ nature of man. As indicated earlier, individuals who act on instincts are inconsistent. Benedick and Beatrice fall in love in spite of the fact that they were longtime adversaries (Buccola 91). The love between the two is as a result of treachery on the part of their friends. Pedro and his friends make sure that Benedick overhears them talk of how Beatrice is madly in love with him. Beatrice is taken through the same kind of treatment. The trick works, and the two finally discover that they are in love. Both of them are determined to reconcile. The theme of inconstancy is evident in this interaction, given that the two were previously not in good terms. The theme of inconstancy is also evident when Benedick announces his plans to get married. He had previously shared with his friends that he does not intend to get a wife (Shermer 86). He despised marriage and love openly to the extent of discouraging his friend Claudio from marrying Hero (Buccola 91). He finds it hard to believe that Don Pedro is serious about getting married. Pedro tells him that he will settle down in life when he finds the perfect woman to marry. Towards the end of the play, Shakespeare makes it apparent that Benedick is madly in love with Beatrice. The former publicly declares his love for the girl and makes known his intentions to settle down with her. Benedick is also ready to show his devotion to Beatrice by slaying his friend Claudio for having humiliated Hero.   Beatrice despises Benedick at the beginning of the play. Their long-standing animosity is made clear. Even after the arrival of Benedick from war, the two treat each other coldly (Shermer 86). Beatrice refers to Benedick as a mysterious man and a dull fool. The two terms show the degree of contempt that Beatrice has towards Benedick. However, her attitude towards him changes when she overhears a conversation between Hero and Ursula. The two were discussing Benedick’s underlying love for her. She is delighted since she regards herself as a loved woman. From that moment on, she is ready to reconcile with Benedick. When Benedick declares his love for her, she gladly accepts his proposal. The two even plan for their wedding ceremony (Shermer 86). The theme of inconstancy is evident when the two characters come together. The two fall in love and forget their hatred towards each other. Conclusion “Much Ado About Nothing” is one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays (Henderson 12). The play addresses the theme of inconstancy in detail. The characters are inconsistent, and they change their opinions about other people and issues from time to time. Examples of characters who exhibit inconstancy are Beatrice and Benedick. Initially, the two were not in good terms, and there were no signs that they would ever reconcile. Benedick is quoted stating that he does not believe in love and that he had no intentions of getting married. However, towards the end of the play, the two are in love and even have plans to hold a wedding. Giddiness is evident in the play where the characters act on instincts. For example, Don John is so obsessed with revenge against his brother that he plans to humiliate him without considering the gravity of his actions (Buccola 91). In the play, giddiness and inconstancy are closely related. Individuals who are giddy are largely inconsistent. Since they act on instincts, they change their decisions frequently. To some of the officers, what would you do if some of your inmates were.....hungry for something? Have their been a time they were really needy to get some help?
@demon-blood-youths & @chunibyo-x-sorcerer
Most of the officers said nothing but they were quiet not sure on how to answer this question. "Lets just say....it happens from time to time. Though, it was really bad or dangerous one time when Mr. Henderson gave us new orders to 'test' something?" Davion said confused but he remembers.
~~~~~~~~~~~
"You want us to do what?" Officer Davion asked but Mr. Henderson sighed looking at them from a video feed.
"Yes. I need to be sure the inmates can behave themselves even with things of being punished for disobeying your orders. So, starting for a few days or two weeks. You are to give your inmates private time. Don't bother them unless your giving them food or something else. I have to be sure it works." he said.
"B..but what will that do sir? What if the inmates get angry about that?" Officer brooks asked.
"It's just a test. I need to see if the inmates get more rash but knowing them they might not. It's just for a few days to a week...It's going to be okay." he said but the officers were quiet. 'It shouldn't be hard. You all are strong to resist anything they pull..you got this..' he said to them.
~~~~~~~~~
"We didn't know what Mr. Henderson was trying to get. Maybe new data or something? Even so, we were doing as we were told but...our charges didn't like the idea." Terry said.
~~~~~~~~
"Wait...that old fool seriously told you to not come bother me for a while? Private time? What the hell is that?" Terry looks to Sai who was annoyed but he was hoping to have some fun with the bat tonight but Terry remains quiet.
"Well, it's orders given to me and the other officers in the max prison. So...I will still visit but I'm not allowed to...bother you till a week or so is up. so you'll have to behave you naughty snake." he said.
"....That is stupid though..I know you can't fight off the need to want me. How will you know you and the others will fight through it?" he said looking at Terry.
"....We'll figure something out. As of right now, I'm not allowed to do anything to..you. But get some rest...I'll check on you in the morning." he said turning to leave but Sai grabs his shirt to stop him. "???"
"You won't be able to hold out you know...none of you are able to after all the fun some has done...what makes you think you'll hold off for so long?" Sai said against his ear but Terry said nothing.
".....I don't know. Depends on how long you can behave yourself or at least Resist....but it's hard even for you..isn't it?" he said getting out of Sai's hold to start walking off. Sai said nothing watching him leave but he felt hungry for something only to look down. This should be something. Painful but something. He knew the other inmates wouldn't like this since some have already gotten to the officers....
"Hmmmmm....."
~~~~~~~~~
"So far, everyone is now on stand by till the week or say is done." Davion said seeing Ryu returning after telling Matt the same. Seems the experiment has begun for the officers and inmates.

Mold and Mildew Removal Service Las Vegas
Proper mold and mildew removal is a complex process, but ignoring mold can have serious health ramifications.
What is Mold?
Mold is a fungus that grows from microscopic spores. The spores exist almost everywhere—in soil, on pets, in our gardens and sometimes even on our food. The spores are generally harmless, except when they begin to multiply in the presence of moisture. That’s when mold becomes a serious health threat, and it can happen in as little as 48hours.
Tumblr media
Mold can grow anywhere, on any surface, as long as there is moisture present. Mold is rarely a problem outside, but it can be a major headache if it grows in your New York home. Exposure to mold can be mildly irritating, causing a rash, itchy eyes and a scratchy throat—or it can be life threatening, causing asthma attacks even in people with no history of asthma. There is no identified safe threshold for exposure to mold, which can cause problems whether it is ingested, inhaled or contacts skin or mucus membranes.
Mold in Your Home
While your first instinct when you see mold in your home may be to clean it using bleach or strong chemicals, this is not the right approach. The CDC recommends removing any soft items that have been wet for two days or longer from your Las Vegas home. Even if you can’t see mold growing, invisible mold spores are at work. These spores must be killed with a thorough cleaning using very hot water and the right cleaning solution. You should call Carpet Cleaners Of Las Vegas for sofa cleaning, upholstery cleaning or carpet cleaning if you suspect mold contamination. We can remove the items from your home for cleaning or clean them on site.
If you see mold growing on walls, woodwork, ceilings or floors, don’t just wipe the area down. Even bleach and hot water will not correct the problem, although it may temporarily remove the visible evidence. It can also spread the mold spores to other surfaces, which can increase the health risk of mold in the home. Because of the danger of spreading mold spores through improper technique, the right next step is to contact Carpet Cleaners Of Las Vegas .
Certified Mold Remediation Specialists
Price Carpet Cleaning Las Vegas has IICRC certified mold remediation specialists on staff in LAS VEGAS HENDERSON NEVADA. These specialists have been trained in the proper techniques for mold and mildew removal, and they can eliminate the danger to your family’s health. We offer 24/7 emergency service in LAS VEGAS HENDERSON NEVADA to help ensure your family’s health and safety.
The first step in mold remediation is to identify and eliminate the source of the moisture which fuels mold growth. Moisture could be the result of a leaky pipe, loose windows, roof leaks, improper grading of the land around your home, excessive indoor humidity or a number of other factors.
The moisture source may be easily identified and corrected, or it may require a more in depth investigation, but either way, until the excess moisture source is corrected the mold will continue to return, bringing its unpleasant health concerns back into your home.
