yall gotta learn the difference between "this character is an asshole" and "this character was supposed to be super cool but the author is an asshole" and "this character is a teenage girl who was mean once"

Finishing a book is like unlocking a new level or skill in a game. You unlock so much more content and finally understand what people are talking about, and the art has a deeper level of appreciation

I really want to get back to reading for fun.
Over the years of being on/watching BookTube, Bookstagram, and BookTok I’ve really started to put pressure on my self to try and be the type of person who has like ten books in their monthly wrap up.
But that’s just not me.
I found myself picking books up only to put them down if I didn’t feel like I was reading them fast enough.
I then realized that
1) I wasn’t finishing anything
2) I wasn’t reading any of the books I really wanted to because they were all to huge and would take me to long.(As if there is a deadline.)
I kept telling myself ‘oh you’re just in a slump, you’ll get back to reading the way you used to eventually.’
Then I thought about it. I’d made reading out to be a job. I took the fun out if it and then made myself not want to do it anymore.
However the past couple of days I’ve come to the realization that I do still love reading and want to read. I just need to stop putting pressure on myself. This isn’t a contest there’s no prize for who can read the most.
Who cares if I take a month to read a 200pg book?
Who cares if I don’t read anything at all?
It doesn’t matter. I just need to find the joy in it again.

Does anyone else favorite their favorite chapters and moments in books. Just to revisit them at random times. A scene will just come to you while working and you just want to revisit it. I do this often. I have a document with all my favorite moments and scene shots of the scenes. Another reason I love ebooks. Which makes this super easy as well. It really is a comfort thing.

yall gotta learn to separate "this character deserved better" (as in "this character has an intentionally tragic story that is supposed to feel bad") and "this character deserved better" (as in "this character had so much potential and was failed by the writer")

Things I’m convinced all readers do:
• the invisible camera
• the talking to a nonexistent audience
• the measuring with your hand to see how reasonable or unreasonable the writer is being (if you know you know👀👀)
• the slamming the book/phone/kindle down to get yourself together in dramatic scenes
• when you legit need to take a lap 🚶‍♀️🔂to compose yourself from the EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER some of y’all put us through
• the reread of a paragraph because that sentence was SO unexpected that you didn’t give it the emotion it needed the first time so you need to absorb it properly and react accordingly
• the OH WAIT I KNOW THE PERFECT SONG FOR THIS CHAPTER (followed by a run to Spotify)
And many many more (feel free to add to this list because I love hearing ppls reading quirks)

This is random but my brain always automatically reads "ofc" in part of a pairing as "Original Fucking Character" and I gotta be honest, I think it's better. I don't begrudge it. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

If i see the tag "I wrote this instead of sleeping" I know the story will be good.
If I see "I wrote this instead of sleeping" and "hurt no comfort" I know I will cry in the middle of the night trying to sleep after reading this heartbreaking fanfiction.
(Becuse of course I will read it in the middle of the night)
