The first thing I think that he would notice is if they're a human, monster, or something else. Plus, how strong their soul waves are!

He can sense them and it shows how healthy you are as well as how long you would have left to live, kind of. Other than that, I think he would also notice how tall the other person is compared to him.

What if,,,,,, he had a redemption arc.

Like, an actual one, not one right before finally passing on to the after life.

So, as you all know, Ulrik's plan is to use Christopher to come back to life, so what if,,,,what if Christopher wasn't actually dead?

So the idea is, when the bus crashed he almost died, but his body panicked and kicked his soul out, then his body entered into a comma or something.

But Christopher didn't know this. He knew the bus he was in crashed, and he sees his own body lying face first on the ground, and there's blood, a lot of blood, and he's a ghost.

So Ulrik takes advantage of this. Here's a vulnerable and enraged child, with the same magic as him, able to drain-and store-essence, essence that Ulrik can then drain all at once, and resurrect himself.

But Christopher thinks he's dead, and he thinks that he's got everything under control, that he'll pull the rug out from under Ulrik, when all along he's been doing exactly what Ulrik wants.

And then, Ulrik betrays him. And he's burned all his bridges, the only person left that he hadn't entirely disappointed or made himself an enemy of, was using him.

And he gives up. All he wanted was to be loved, appreciated, and he ruined it for himself, and when he wasn't even dead.

But just as Ulrik's about to completely drain Christopher, Ragunoe saves him.

Because that's what he does. He's the chosen hero, and he's going to save as many people as he can.

And Christopher realizes it isn't over, that he can maybe make up for what he's done, at least a little.

So he joins the team, and helps them defeat Ulrik and save Charlie.

And he gets to be alive again :>

And so Ian adopts him too.

Also I decided Ulrik kills Favian for betraying them, instead of Christopher, it's another hint to Christopher that Ulrik's not on his side.

But yeah! He gets an actual happy ending!
