Earthing/Grounding(connect with the earth's energy)
Earthing, also known as grounding, is the practice of connecting with the Earth’s natural energy by walking barefoot on grass, sand, soil, or any natural surface. The idea behind earthing is that direct contact with the Earth’s surface allows for the transfer of electrons from the ground into the body, which can have various health benefits. Here’s more about earthing and its…

hope you feel better soon!
I am riddled with ailments, but I stay silly!
#ask#non mdzs#My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl#So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume#but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice#and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. Class is dismissed.#I'll be back later with a few more answered asks </3 despite everything I'm still going to work and I need the extra sleep.#Thank you for the well wishes! And if you read all of that info dump; thank you for that as well!

forgive my absolute ignorance and maybe stupidity, but does swimming and other pool related activities help hypermobility? Whenever I told anyone related to medicine I'm having joint pain, they told me to take many a bath and frequent a pool
yes. water-related actitivites help with joint pain a) by in the case of exercise like aerobics and swimming building muscle and b) doing so whilst relieving pressure on the joints because the water is holding you up
hot baths will relieve pressure on the joints (unlike standing or even sitting to take a shower) and the heat will relax the muscles whilst the water supports you
#swimming CORRECTLY while hypermobile is a different matter because your bones will still want to go the wrong way#but certainly at equivalent levels exercise whilst floating in a body of water > exercise under the constraints of gravity#any heat therapy will help with muscular ache (note: acute injury requires ice to reduce inflammation and swelling)#like the application of a hot compress or a massage with heated oil#but nothing beats a hot bath. nothing on this earth#there may be a sensation greater than stretching out tight and tired calf muscles in hot water#but as god is my witness i havent found it yet if it does

Is it normal for yoga/pilates to cause pain in the lower stomach when peeing? It seems to have gone away now, but the first 24hrs after my first session was very painful.
i'm a wildlife biologist, not a human one, and should not be asked for medical advice because i run a reminders blog for my disabled self akxhsjd;;
my best guess, since i know yoga emphasizes your core, is that you pushed yourself and your muscles too hard for a first session. what are considered "core muscles" are more than just the belly muscles like i had originally thought:
your muscles, specifically perhaps those lower belly ones near the pelvic floor, were not prepped properly for the session and as your muscles did its post-exercise repair (which causes inflammation in me if i pushed myself too far), it will hurt while doing it's normal uses.
i reccomend daily light stretches for your core (like this one that focuses on balance or this one that focuses on prepping core muscles) while being sure to stay well hydrated (electrolytes really do help) & breathing (oxygen in muscles is good) during the sessions.
if the pain persists, especially if it feels like an inflammation in the urinary tract, you prob will want to get that checked by a professional
#there are also meds to treat inflammation specifically; when a specialty doc got me on stronger pain relief#my primary doctor warned me to keep taking ibuprofen during my flate ups cause that specifically reduces inflammation#sometimes after a workout where i may have accidentally pushed myself too hard cause i spaced out#i will take an ibuprofen with my next meal to prevent flare ups#but im impressed how having electrolytes in my drink helps a LOT when it comes to muscle-use pain#especially since ive heard too many horror stories of Too Much Ibuprofen lolol#asks

Idk how me, a broad and chubby woman from a long line of broad and chubby women, and my husband, an average-height man from long lines of very tiny women and very average men, managed to produce a child so exceptionally tall, long, & lean that she can't wear store-bought clothes anymore without alteration. Yet here I am, dusting off a sewing machine I barely know how to operate....
#personal#this kid put on 2 inches in less than 3 months y'all#which is about how much she's supposed to grow in a YEAR at this age#while also somehow gaining no weight#i mean literally NONE#she even dropped an ounce overall#so no it wasn't my imagination that all her pants suddenly became too short#while simultaneously getting looser around the waist#and yes we're on top of the weight thing; she has a whole med team helping us out#it's cuz we finally found one of her EOE triggers so now she's eating more diversely and the inflammation is reducing#so her body is getting excited to go for all that growth it was putting off due to lack of nutrients and calories#same thing happened as an infant when she started PPIs for the first time#on my mama's grave she went from 50th percentile to 90th in less than a month#she also has a documented history of massive growth spurts every time her dosage gets upped to match her current size#the lack of weight gain is a bit worrisome tho so we're working on upping her calories as much as possible#but anyway#if anyone has tutorials on Learning To Make Kids Clothes for complete noobs let me know#cuz clothes cost too much for how much they DON'T fit her

I am SERIOUSLY going to need 2025 to give me a break lmfao.
My cat needs a tooth pulled bc it's created an abscess on her tiny head, after several hundred dollars spent over the last few months to treat her allergies, and I'm just like 🙃 "ok."
Anyway, The Buglet tax:

#like the antibiotics worked! in that it reduced most of the inflammation#so $145 went to $1000+ in the span of about a week and I'm very annoyed#i have feelings about veterinary services costing that much up front bc all pet insurance only reimburses#(mine only does 70% and this popped up during her policy waiting period so hopefully we can fudge it so I recoup some!)#like vets need to be paid but my whole hysterectomy copay was about this#ughhhhhhhh

my pain has been feeling. different. lately. and i dont really know how to describe it? usually the pain is like a constant dull throbbing, like theres increased pressure in all of my limbs. but recently thats kind of gone away? it feels sort of like when you cut your nails too short and then the very tips of your fingertips feel raw. it feels like the outer layer of pain was scrubbed away and the pain layer inside has been rubbed raw and is now exposed to the air. pain fucking sucks to describe im sorry. but yeah like. its not even necessarily less pain its just. different?
#im thinking reduced inflammation? i went gluten-free about a week ago to see if it would help#so maybe thats what this is

Had a nasty cold + ear infection combo last week and even though the cold is gone, now my ears are so full of goo it sounds like I'm perpetually wearing noise cancelling headphones. I went to the doctor today and apparently I just have to wait for the goo to drain and it could be weeks to months before I'm back to normal fuck this shit
#they put me on a quick course of prednisone which should reduce the inflammation and help them drain a little faster#but still she was like “come back if it's not better in a couple months” uM EXCUSE ME MONTHS?
