i'd love to see your take on ruby! especially the entire situation with her sisters and so on

RUBY!! RUBY RUBY (I RUN AROUND IN CIRCLES) She's another BFDI character I associate heavily with ADHD. She's got so much spark to her I love her!

Redux!Ruby's Character Proposal:

Ruby is the youngest in a HUGE group of sisters. She's got so many. They're all greatly successful in their lines of work. Writers, doctors, inventors, scientists... The list could go on.

They don't all hate her for betraying and getting into BFDIA!! Her sisters are actually very supportive but because she has so many, Ruby isn't close to a lot of them.

Bubbly, curious, brilliant, and sensitive. She loves fun, harmless pranks, and making new friends. Not afraid to convey her emotions.

An aspiring actress. It came to me at 3 in the morning. She applied to BFDIA was to get her name out there.

ADHD friend!!

#2 Pencil apologist until BFB.

She meets Pencil and Match during BFDIA 1, where she goes right up to them and asks about an alliance. Pencil seems down to strengthen her team.

Match feels like an echo of Pencil. The two act so similar and so close it's no wonder that Match is Pencil's right hand.

Authority is authority. Ruby is LOYAL.

Bubble is a common spectator and eventually a temporary host for BFDIA. She seems hesitant about Ruby and that kinda hurts! Hopefully she'll come around.

Book!! She's agreeable and friendly-- a good team worker.

Ice Cube. Hmm. Pencil says she can be as stubborn as a bag of rocks. Honestly, though, Ruby doesn't mind.

There's times where Pencil snaps at Ruby for being "too much of x."(Her words!) Sometimes she says hurtful things and Ruby can't stop herself from crying.

Apparently that's the WRONG course of action because Pencil doesn't like that either. She'll berate Ruby for that too, call her a baby-- maybe it's better to walk on eggshells and watch Pencil's face.

Sometimes she's too distracted or too excited or too intense or too sensitive. Ruby sucks up and apologizes-- now she's being cringe. What???

Ruby is sure Pencil has a good reason to be that way. Surely. Don't ask her why, though. Ruby doesn't know.

Match is often the same but toned down, she doesn't scoff when Ruby apologizes and checks on Ruby after Pencil lights a fuse. That's nice.

IDFB... my favorite untouched territory

And where FreeSmart begins to fall apart.

Ruby and Bubble start to establish a stronger friendship.

Mid-late IDFB, Ice Cube leaves and Book follows. Ruby is out doing something during that time and comes back right as Pencil is telling Book to go.

Book looked so fucking hurt and Pencil looked pissed.

Ruby is sad to see Book go. Pencil is all "good riddance" about it and when Ruby asks, Pencil explains. Ruby now has Pencil's perspective.

Pencil also asks her to promise she won't be like Book. Ruby agrees.

Ruby does eventually come into contact with Book again. She hears Book's perspective and is quick to defend Pencil and after some back and forth Book tells her to just stop.

Ruby stammers and Book tells her to go. Ruby complies, feeling herself start to cry.

Push it down, don't make things worse. Ruby dries her tears before she returns to what's left of the alliance.

Ruby does get to see more of Pencil's meaner side throughout the end of IDFB-- the way she is with Book, the way she clings to control.

ALSO WITH FLOWER!! I want part of her character arc of being a better person to involve Ruby. Ruby is still nice to Flower even when Flower is being a jerk. Really, Ruby is still nice to everyone even when they're being a jerk.

BFB.

Getting invited to a new season of BFDI was not on Ruby's bingo.

She invites Flower to Iance by calling her pretty. Awh.

So, new teammates.

Fanny is negative about a lot of stuff. Ruby wonders why she hates and hates. Fanny is also mature-- she's able to recognize her own faults and for that, she has Ruby's respect.

Lightning has some problems to work out and Pencil treats him like a weapon. He also electrocutes anyone Pencil and Match asks him to soooo it's better to stay on it's good side!!

Snowball is an actual jerk. He's got this weird mindset about strength and it's going to take him a good minute to get out of it.

FLOWER!!! Pencil doesn't like her but Ruby does. She's learning to be better.

Pencil is the first BFB elimination. This leaves Match in charge.

To compensate, Match gets worse. She pushes the team to their limits and demotes Bubble twice. Is?? That even possible??

She insults Bubble too.

It gets to the point where Bubble snaps and calls her out. A small but loud argument starts-- in which Ruby tries to break it up and gets gently pulled aside by Fanny, who tells her to let it happen.

The results?

Bubble refuses to talk to Match. Ruby tries to comfort both of them.

Match eventually breaks down and apologized both to Bubble and Ruby. Bubble says she appreciates it and needs time.

Ruby tries to tell Match it's okay-- Bubble says it's not.

Match is eliminated.

Bubble and Ruby have a talk once the shock is over. Something about Bubble asking Ruby if she really thinks what Match and Pencil have done is okay. Like, she's never questioned them? Ever???

Ruby admits that she has but pushed it aside.

She was in denial. A part of her still doesn't want to believe it but...

The rest of BFB pre-split, Ruby is coming to her own conclusions and accepting that the way Pencil and Match behaved weren't okay.

Ruby could've gone to TPOT-- I think she and Two would've gotten a long real well!! But she stuck with Bubble and Flower.

My main goal with post-split Ruby is letting her be herself!! Nobody's scolding her for how she acts anymore, she can breathe.

Ruby is eliminated in BFB 20! She will cheer Flower and Bubble on.

Following the finale, I'll probably have Ruby take her leave for a bit-- she's still in contact with Flower and Bubble but now she's taking small acting jobs and visiting between them to experience joy and whimsy. #happy ending

Good evening bridgy. First, a question: Do you have a favorite movie?

Second: Most humbly do I request the next part of either blind, transfer of maiden Weiss, whichever one you wish to write most. Please, have a nice day.

(Not a favorite, but I do like the Indiana Jones movies)

Weiss let out a heavy sigh as she stepped back into the dorm with the rest of her team. The late lunch at the cafe was quiet after Blake, Ruby, and Yang had their own argument about whether or not Penny was still alive and who the girl was that Ruby saw. And yet, her own mind wandered as she had kept an eye on Blake. The way her bow twitched made it seem like there was something she was hiding. Then there was her comment on her eyesight. While she’d admit that she was blind in her scarred eye, the fact that Blake was so quick to say her eyesight was better meant there was something more going on. 

And yet, she couldnt seem to ask. Or even accuse her of anything. At least, not until she had some proof of what was going on. But first, she had something else to worry about first. 

“All I’m suggesting is that you saw someone who looked like her,” Yang said sternly. “Penny’s gone-” 

“But it was her!” Ruby pulled out her scroll again to show Yang the picture. “I saw her! I heard her voice! She’s still alive! She has to be!” 

“If she was still alive, then why isnt she here?” 

“Maybe she only just got better.” 

“You need to move on-” 

“That’s enough!” Weiss yelled out as she used her glyphs to separate Ruby and Yang. “It doesnt matter if that was really Penny or not, if Ruby thinks she saw her, then she saw her.” 

Ruby paused for a moment. “You’re… taking my side?” 

“It still sounds far-fetched, but if you’re sure you saw Penny, then I should at least help. My family’s company has a few people I can send requests to to see if we can find out if she’s been in any hospitals as of late.” Weiss then looked at Blake. “But before that, you owe me answers.” 

 Blake sighed and wordlessly undid her bow, letting her ears show. Her voice was quiet as she spoke. “Not every faunus joins the White Fang. But those of us who do… all we want is for things to change. For things to get better.” 

Weiss stared at Blake’s ears, her body shaking as she listened to her. It was practically a confession that she’d been part of the White Fang. But all she could do was stare at Blake’s ears. Those same ears haunted her dreams along with the faces of her fallen friends and teammates. It couldn't have been Blake who killed them, and yet… she couldnt convince herself otherwise. 

She reached for where the hilt of her rapier would normally be, her fingers clenching in a fist instead. Her heart pounded in her chest as her breathing started to become ragged. Glyphs flickered around her until she felt someone grab her shoulder. 

“Blake isnt part of the White Fang anymore,” Yang said firmly, squeezing Weiss’s shoulder. “So you can calm down.” 

“Calm… down?” Weiss asked, voice shaking. “Its because of the White Fang that I’m here. They killed my teammates, kidnapped me and held me for ransom. Now they’re breaking into dust shops and Blake could be working with them!” 

Blake tied the ribbons around her ears again. “Its that kind of thinking that’s pushed the White Fang into becoming violent!” 

“And that’s supposed to excuse them for what they’ve done?! For the friends and family that I’ve lost? All the White Fang does is kill and take from others!” 

“If we werent pushed around-” 

“You say you arent part of them anymore but you still use we!” Weiss interrupted. “How do we know we can trust you?” 

“Because Yang and I trust her,” Ruby answered. “She’s done nothing to hurt us, even when Penny was here.” 

“Of course you’d take her side!” Weiss pulled away from Yang, grabbed a bag and started to pack up. “This was a mistake.” 

Yang sighed and grabbed Weiss’s wrist to stop her. “Give Blake a chance. Think about it, if she had wanted to hurt you, she would’ve already.” 

“Then what am I supposed to do?” Weiss snapped. “Just stay here until she does?” 

“Or you can let her prove that she wont,” Ruby suggested.

Weiss rolled her eyes. “And how do you expect her to do that?” 

“You think the White Fang is behind the dust robberies in town, right? Maybe Blake can help show that they’re not.” 

Weiss stopped to consider it for a moment. Whether or not the White Fang were really behind the dust robbies didnt matter much to her, what mattered was making sure the White Fang paid for everything they’d done. “And how can she do that?” 

“Well… I… Blake, I’m sure you have an idea, right?” 

Blake nodded and pulled out her scroll. “Yang and I ran into one of the visiting students earlier today and he mentioned something about a dust shipment coming into the harbor tonight. Whoever is behind the robberies are sure to show up.” 

Weiss frowned. “And what makes you think I can trust you?” 

“I dont expect you to. All I ask is that you give me a chance to prove myself.” 

“Fine.” Weiss took a breath and let it out softly. “I’ll give you one chance.”

Biography:

Sunsprite was born to Ruby Rose and Jaune Arc. Named after a yellow rose that represents to feel positive and hope, and the promise of a new beginning. Like her mother, Ruby, Sunsprite is born with silver eyes.

She was born during the time of the 2nd Great War in Vale. As an infant, it was the only time Sunsprite sees her mother, but Ruby feared Salem will come after Sunsprite (due to the fact that she has silver eyes). To lure Salem away from her daughter, Ruby resolves to leave. But not before telling Jaune, and asked him to give Sunsprite a letter when she turns 17.

After Ruby left, Jaune was left to raise his daughter on his own, with the help of his older sister, Saphron, and Ruby's older sister, Yang. This way, Sunsprite will still be surrounded by love and family, even during the hard times in the 2nd Great War.

As Sunsrpite grew up, her aunt Yang would not only spoil her and spend some time with her, but also taught her niece hand-to-hand combat. Then Jaune would teach her swordsmanship, but she prefers to fight without a shield in order to excel in her speed.

Later, she would meet her honorary great-uncle, Qrow Branwen, one of the surviving huntsmen that has been watching over Sunsprite from a distance until now. And the one who taught Sunsprite's mother the ways of the scythe. Qrow then taught her on her to use a scythe.

When Sunsprite is ready, Jaunes passed her his own weapon, Crocea Mors, which has been in the family for generations. With this, Sunsprite would readjust the family sword so that it can also turn into a scythe. Jaune doesn't mind this, since he acknowledged her creativity and strategy.

After she turns 17, Jaune finally gives Sunsprite the letter. On the letter, Ruby explains her reason for leaving for the fear of her safety. But encourages her to fight for what she believes in. It also includes a journal that tells her stories about her friends, her time in Beacon Academy, and her journey for the four relics.

During one of her missions, she is helping evacuating the civilians in the town of Sunset Island, when the Grimm got too closer to the crowd, Sunsprite wasted no time to fend off the protect the citizens. It also unlocks the semblance of Rose Manifest (which turns her into Rose pedals to switch from one to to another).

Personality:

Since then, Sunsprite has become the leader of the Knights of Arc. A group of hunters that serve as protectors of the weak and aiding the Resisatnce. Because of this, Sunsprite unlocked her father's semblance, Aura Amp. Which is surprising, cause never before a huntsman and/or huntress can unlock two semblance, and she is the first to do so.

And because of her dedication for the rebellion, Sunsprite became known as "the Silver-eyed Knight of Remnant."

Sunsprite is similar to her mother, Ruby, intelligent of strategy, and filled with dreams despite being involved in the 2nd Great War. And filled with nostalgia when hearing fairy tales as a child. She tried her best to remain positive throughout her battles. Like Ruby, she also has a sweet-tooth for sweets such as cookies, or other baked goods. And would make them from her grandmother's recipe.

She would refer to her father, Jaune as a "Super Dad," who told her fairy tales in Ruby's absence and spending time with her when not fighting in war. For that, she is close to her father, even if he is absent for busy reasons. Which Sunsprite doesn't mind.

Sunsprite dreams of writing her stories, and would write down her journal previous events, so that if the war is won, she can convert them into a book. Writing down her journal, Sunsprite longed to meet her mother since she left. And was curious about what caused her to leave.

Fang (La Comedienne) and Serenity’s relationship is unbelievably “Take Me To Church”- coded from Fang’s point of view

Till the break-up, of course, at which point it becomes “Unknown Nth”-coded

Riptide and Serenity’s relationship, meanwhile, is VERY “Like Real People Do”-esque from Riptide’s POV and “From Eden” from Serenity’s

And our main pairing ? Ruby and James ? Well, sticking to the themes of Hozier songs, they are extremely “Francesca”

As for Caz and Eagle ? They would be “Work Song” for sure, the second the two dumbasses stop seeing each other as replacements for their missing siblings

i think my problem with this dw season arc accusing the audience of fanbrain for theorising about ruby is that it both feels deceitful and isn't actually that compelling from a character perspective. the season goes out of its way to build up supernatural mystery around ruby and even invokes susan more heavily than ever before in a way that is deliberately trying to get the audience to make those connections. and then it turns around and says you stupid idiot why would you ever try to connect these dots i have deliberately tried to get you to connect.

building up a mystery only for the character to be ordinary is an impossible girl arc redux only this time accusing the viewer of failing to see the humanity of the companion, whereas the impossible girl arc was turning that accusation on the doctor. 7b didn't really blame the audience for viewing clara as a puzzle and in fact several times spells out the fact that clara is perfectly ordinary before the big reveal to give the audience a chance to catch on. as 7b goes on, instead of laying the mystery on thicker, the audience just gets more and more affirmations that clara is a normal human being (rings of akhaten, journey to the centre of the tardis, hide). i found this approach compelling because it was rooted in character, focusing on the doctor's disconnection from humanity/the gendered dynamic of a man treating a woman as his manic pixie mystery to pull him out of grief. s14's meta approach of accusing the viewer feels both unfair, given it has deliberately led the viewer towards theorising, and personally less compelling to me because it wasn't tied into character in any way.

the thing about rey's parentage in tlj is that the reason rian johnson chose to go for that reveal was that it was the only answer that was interesting. none of the theories - rey is a skywalker, rey is a kenobi, and even the eventually canonical rey is a palpatine - were interesting or satisfying because they brought nothing compelling to the table for the story being told. the only satisfaction to be gained from those answers was a fanbrained "omg rey is important because she's related to that guy from the other movie." on top of that, rey desperately wants her parents to have been important, to give her life and her abandonment some kind of significance. so them being ordinary provided the most compelling trajectory for her character because it was the thing she least wanted to hear. it forced her to do the most introspection and growth, as well as tying into the film's themes about the capacity of ordinary people to be special. it wasn't just a choice made to "gotcha" the viewer, it was rooted in character.

i don't think ruby's mother being ordinary accomplishes the same thing. by invoking susan, s14 is engaging with the most egregious example of the doctor's streak of abandonment, which has potential to be very compelling in relation to ruby (and now also the doctor's) own abandonment issues. theories that ruby might be susan, or be somehow related to susan, or somehow related to the doctor, weren't just fanbrained "omg she's related to that guy i know from the classic series." they were theories genuinely rooted in character and the potential to explore both the doctor and ruby's issues with abandonment. and this is something the show willingly led fans towards by invoking susan so much in the first place. so for the show to turn around and act like they were shallow out of nowhere ideas when they were not shallow and were based on potential character conflicts the show itself deliberately invoked, feels misguided.

as well as that, ruby's mother being ordinary does not require that same growth from ruby as it did for rey because it is exactly what ruby wanted to hear. she never wanted her mother to be important, she just wanted to know who her mother was and have a connection with her. so finding out she was a normal woman who still loves her and wants to be a part of her life is everything she's ever wanted. it doesn't introduce interesting conflict for her the way rey's parents being ordinary did for her, because they were written as different characters with different hangups over their abandonment.

tl;dr i don't necessarily dislike ruby's mother being ordinary as an idea but compared to the things it was inspired by - 7b and star wars - it is not nearly as compelling in terms of how it relates to the characters or themes. and the meta angle, while conceptually interesting, doesn't quite work for me because it feels a little manipulative of the audience.

HAHAHHAHA!!! BACKSTORY TIME! BACKSTORY TIME!! Kicking my feet.

Some characters have drafted backstories!! I'll go over every one I can remember/have planned. I'll count backstory as anything that happened pre-BFDI or before the character's debut in a gameshow season.

CAKE

Cake was raised by two parents who did NOT get along. The only reason they were together was to keep him happy(good job /s!) This meant a lot of conflict. Even over the smallest things-- they could not stand each other.

It's not even that they were bad people either. They just. DID NOT GET ALONG. And his school life wasn't much better: bullies and little friends are a shitty mix.

So, going into teenagehood, Cake drowned out his problems by popping in some earbuds and listening to music while working. His SMALL circle had huge Goiky's Dragons fans, so tabletop RPGs were a good way for him to stay distracted.

He also had his trans actualization when he started getting into Loser as a preteen. Cake was a DIEHARD Loser fan at the time and idolized the man. He dreamed of going to Loser's performances and meeting Loser in person.

I want to make an IDFB episode that focuses on Cake!! Tempted to call the episode "Cake Day"! It would be about Cake and his grandfathers on his mother's side taking him to a live Loser show for his 16th birthday. It'll introduce both characters!

LOSER AND WINNER

They met during highschool, in which Winner got some bullies to leave Loser alone.

They both started off as kids with big dreams. Loser wanted to make it far from the start and Winner was there to support him through it all.

In their early twenties, they got into a talent show and were met with praise, basking in the attention. Within a month, they became a viral sensation.

Loser loved it. Winner didn't. They felt pressured and stressed. So, when Loser came to them with a movie deal, Winner finally put a stop to their team-up. There wasn't a big fight. Loser tried to be understanding and was deeply hurt. He eventually broke contact with Winner and went off on his own.

Winner faded into obscurity-- no matter how hard they tried to get back into the spotlight, hoping to be seen by Loser again, it never worked out.

FLOWER

I don't have a strong idea but I do have the foundation for a backstory!!

Flower was brought up in a wealthy family, raised in values of status and fortune. Stereotypical rich highschool popular girl bully.

Her parents made it very clear to her that she would eventually be on her own and have to learn to fend for herself. To act like and be an adult. They gave her starter funds when she said she was ready to move out.

PIN

Raised by great people who encouraged her to express herself. To be herself no matter what stands in her way. We'll see how that turns out.

TWO

This algebralien has a streak of bad luck to their name!

Friendships rarely did work out for them. Despite being omnipotent, Two was pushed into doing what others wanted. Two wants others to like them. Others(One) took advantage of their power.

They had a best friend in One, or so they thought. When One was trapped away, they felt at fault and struggled with their self esteem for a long time.

Then they met Eight!! They and Eight would all. Become a QPP-- which ended after Two helped Fourteen. Right before Fourteen showed his true colors.

So, Two left the algebralien world behind in search of new adventures.

RUBY

The youngest of too many sisters to count!!

Ruby's sisters were all majorly successful in some form or another-- artists, scientists, doctors, CEOs... The list goes on! Ruby wanted to be successful too. In her childhood, Ruby explored several things to find what she liked. She tried cooking, photography, painting, and writing before landing on acting.

With the support of her closest sisters, Ruby pursued her goals and applied for BFDIA to get her name out there.

LEAFY

Leafy spent a lot of her life with her legal guardian, her uncle!! She probably had a forest in her backyard. In her childhood, she'd go to summer camps that taught her vital survival skills for the wilderness-- skills Leafy would put to use by going camping with her uncle in the fall.

GOLF BALL

Golf Ball grew up in a small town in Yoyleland and moved to Yoylecity for college. One day, perhaps a few years into her studies, something happens in Yoylecity that causes it to be abandoned-- and leave Golf Ball with some serious trauma.

I don't have enough clues from Canon!IDFB to tell you what exactly happened,, but as I start to piece together a solid timeline I should be able to.

GELATIN

Gelatin got into science during middle school. It started with biology, went into biochemistry, and finally landed permanently on chemistry.

After graduating highschool, Gelatin started college-- having to stop halfway through this parent's steakhouse business that he inherited and did not want.

FOUR, X, AND ROBOTY

The epitome of algebralien chaos and his polite best friend!!

So, I don't know how Four and X got their powers, but they have some!!

X and Four met at a young age! They stuck together through rough patches and as they began to discover their own power. Four easily learned to master theirs while X fell behind and began to show signs of struggling with their own self-worth.

Four frequented the Equation Playground because X spent a lot of their time there. Through X, they met a lot of other integers-- including Two, who set up doorways into personal domains for ease of access. X was on good terms (but not particularly close friends) with everyone.

However, due to boredom, Four began looking for other things to do and took X along with him. X eagerly complied. This included Four being inspired enough by Two making those gateways-- they tried making one of their own and made a lifeform with a gateway instead.

Roboty! Four gave him to X as a gift so X could go to Four's domain without Four being present. X took Roboty everywhere with them.

One day, Four had the idea for a new adventure. He had seen BFDI and BFDIA and wanted to try it for himself!! When you get this number obsessed with something, it's hard to get him to stop.

He made a physical copy of BFDI and then got X and Roboty to come with him, proposing an impulse season for BFDIA: BFB. X was ecstatic and Roboty did not want in.

A couple of much rougher ideas -

Snowball being raised around bigotry and toxicity, specifically idealizing strength.

Basketball being into robotics as a kid and pursuing it as a job.

Greetings and Salutations, Bridgy. If it is not too much trouble, once more do I request the next part of either transfer student, penpals, blind!weiss or guardian!heiress, whichever one you wish to write. Please, have a nice day.

Weiss raced across the rooftops as she followed Blake, cursing to herself as she tried to find Ruby. What was supposed to be a day to relax had turned into a day of trying to babysit her team and trying to get a lunch date together. Though she did have to admit, her team did seem to be a bit more capable than expected. 

Keeping up with Blake was a challenge as she watched her use her semblance to hop across rooftops more effectively while also keeping watch on the road below. Though she wasnt sure how well Blake was able to see anything on the roads, it was hard to argue that it wasnt working. 

“Rose petals to our left,” Blake said as she stopped and put a hand up. “She shouldnt be too far ahead.” 

Weiss stopped next to Blake and sighed as she watched the petals flutter in the wind. “How can you tell if they’re hers?” 

“Unlike real rose petals, hers shine in the light before they disappear.” 

“And you can tell from up here?” 

“Of course. My eyesight is better than- you’re going to have to trust me on this. I’ve spent a year with Ruby, I know how things look for her.” 

“Fine,” Weiss said as she rolled her eyes. “I’ll trust you on this. So which way now?” 

Blake scanned the streets as she looked out over the city and started heading in the direction she saw more petals come from. “This way!” 

Weiss nodded and used her glyphs to keep up with Blake, still not quite sure how Blake was tracking Ruby. It was hard enough to see the rose petals even with them glittering in the sun, but being able to tell where they were coming from in a busy city like this? That would take more than just being able to see well. 

Still, she continued to follow Blake through the city until, finally, Ruby could be seen running through the street, using her semblance to weave through the crowds. Weiss stopped for a moment when she saw a flash of green along the streets as well. But when she looked for that flash of green, all she could see was Ruby rushing out of sight. 

“Are you coming?” Blake asked as she turned around. “I thought you werent going to slow me down.” 

“Y-yeah, I’m coming,” Weiss answered back as she started to run again. 

“Good. We dont want to lose her.” 

Weiss nodded and made her way down to the streets. “You keep following from the roof, I’m going to see if I can catch her on the streets.” 

“You really think you’ll be able to follow her?” 

“No, but I think I can cut her off.” 

“I’ll call you once I catch her.” 

Weiss started to race down the street and took a side alley to try to cut off Ruby. She used her semblance to push off the wall next to her and to round the corner as fast as she could. A smile crossed her lips as she saw more rose petals in front of her, following them forward. She raced through the crowds until the rose petals finally stopped and she saw Ruby standing near the docks. 

She quickly sent a message to Yang and Blake that Ruby had been found and slowly walked over to her. “Everything okay?” 

“I… I thought I saw her,” Ruby answered as she looked at her scroll. “I saw Penny. She’s here.” 

Weiss looked at her curiously. “Your missing teammate Penny?” 

“Yes!” 

“Are you sure you’re not seeing things?” 

Ruby glared. “Of course I’m not!” 

“I know what its like to see the people you miss.” Weiss looked away from Ruby and held her arm to her chest. Her voice cracked as she spoke and her hand started to shake. “I see the people that I care about, the ones that I couldnt save. Maybe… maybe I just want to see them smile once more or just hear them laugh again.” 

“I know I’m not seeing things. I saw her, I heard her… she was right there.” 

“Greif is powerful-” 

“Its not…” Ruby sighed and started to walk back the way she came. “Forget I said anything.” 

“Wait, Ruby.” Weiss put a hand on Ruby’s shoulder to stop her. Her fingers practically shook as she held her teammate’s shoulder and her voice started to go quiet as she spoke again. “I lost my team before I came to Beacon. I get what it means to miss the person you care about. And I… I want to help.” 

“Then help me find her.” 

“But she’s-” Weiss’s words stopped as Ruby pulled out her scroll and showed a picture of a girl with red hair running through a crowd. “Who’s that?” 

“Penny,” Ruby answered. “She was just here and I need to find her.”

read this before i began to get ready for bed, and oh my god. truly, oh my god. i mean it when i say there's a very small percentage of this world that has a mastery over language quite like ruby does.

"there are so many different types of women, there is no true way to make a singular “average” reader."

THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING. i am not claiming to attempt to appeal to every reader i could possibly have, nor do i want to try and box my entire audience into one appearance or personality or mindset. that is why i make it clear that my writing is not for everyone. that is what i see in so many fics under these fandom tags that i wish so desperately to avoid.

"i mean honestly, at some point, it feels like you all are having more fun inflicting pain on the nebulous concept of a woman than you are writing what is supposed to be a romance between “you” and your favorite fictional man."

preach. oh my god. i understand that a lot of the time, these kinds of writings can stem as projection by girls who ( more often than not ) weren't taught by their fathers what a loving relationship was supposed to look like. so they seek it in bad, bad men because they're not taught that violence is not love—they only know that violence makes them feel something.

and then they project it into these fics, and it sours the entire demographic of what these characters should look like when put into writing. it takes the personalities we've been given and returns them to us, mangled and distorted and wrong, but we take it at face value anyway because at least the appearance is the same.

i could say something about that. about how a lot of readers in this fandom don't care about the personality; just about the appearance and whatever trope the character's been shoehorned into.

i understand. but truly. it gets to a point.

i should get this framed on my wall. this is such a crystal clear summary of how so many fics in this fandom read. and i don't want to be mean, heavens no, but i don't know how else i can say it so you all will understand.

after all, isn't being mean the universal language of damaged girls?

ruby, my darling. i love you endlessly and you are so so real for this. i'll always be amazed by your craft, especially when it's impassioned ranting like this piece. they'll have to step over my cold, dead body to get to you.

kiki, get behind me. #they may jump you, but that doesn’t mean you are wrong. so much of the cod fandom is written to appeal to girls in a boys’ club, and no matter what they say, it is not misogynistic to point that out.

Remnant's Green Lantern

After Sunsprite and her friends defeated Salem, she looks to the statues of her father Jaune, and mother Ruby. Built following the events of 2nd Great War. With the Crocea Mors of the Arc, Sunsprite used her silver eyes to seal Salem for good. But knew she has to be ready for the next time she appears.

Though it might take years, Sunsprite needs to be ready. To train future generations of huntsmen and huntresses. To protect Remnant.

"Mom, Dad, you can rest now. The war may be over, but Salem will return. But please, don't just support me, but also everyone else who want to do good in Remnant." Sunsprite pleaded.

As Sunsprite prays in front of the memorial statues, a Green light streaks from the sky like a shooting star. As the light reaches closer to Sunrpite, she looks after it shines behind her.

As she sees the light, it was a ring. Radiating to her presence.

The ring then began to speak. "Sunsprite Arc. Brave and heart of gold. Heiress of Clan Arc. Daughter of Jaune Arc and Ruby Rose. Because of your bravery and encouragement to defeat Salem, your duty is far from over."

Sunsprite blinks as she hears the voice. Confused for how the ring was speaking to her. As if she is chosen for a new destiny.

"What duty?" Asked Sunsprite. "What am I chosen for?"

"You have been selected to become a warrior of will and protection. What lies ahead is not just Remnant, but also beyond it." The ring adds. "With this ring, you will be granted the power of the Infinite and Unbound. You will become a Green Lantern."

Sunsprite stood still as she held her hand out. Not sure why she felt the need to accept this. But maybe she wants to do more good. Maybe something more to help others beyond Remnant. She placed her father's sword back into her sheath on the side of her waist.

Then the ring illuminates a light beam formed around Sunsprite. The beam lifts her off the ground. Pulling her into the sky. It startled her at first before wondering where her journey would take her next. She is now a Green Lantern of Remnant.

The ring slipped into her finger after floating towards her. Her armory became enhanced in green with a bodysuit. Her Boots are also green. And her Rose Emblem given to her by her mother was glowing in green light.

Then the scripts that were written in a planetary language was translated to English. Sunsprite reads like it was a poetry to recite.

"In brightest day, in darkest night. No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might! Beware my power! Green Lantern's light!"

So I have a hunch that we’re going to find out that Ruby actually has some… special connection to the Relics.

See, let’s consider for a moment the fact that as of the end of Volume 8, all three of Jinn’s answers have been questioned. Which, according to everything we know, means that it should be a hundred years before more questions can be asked, and by extension, before we could see Jinn again.

Now the thing is, I think we call all agree that it is EXTREMELY unlikely that this is the last we’re meant to see of a character like Jinn in RWBY. If for nothing else than it feels like we’re meant to get at least one more vision from her in a big ‘Once More, With Clarity’ reveal.

Like you know the theory that the main reason for the Unreliable-Narrator nature of Jinn’s vision in Volume 6 was because Ruby’s question was ‘What is Ozpin hiding from us?’, meaning that Jinn’s answer was framed ENTIRELY around what Oz knew, or BELIEVED, ie; all the info/propaganda he was told/fed by the God of Light about what happened while he was dead.

So I think it feels like a pretty natural step that we could wind up seeing someone, likely Ruby again, doing a redux of that moment where she asks Jinn a far more direct question, say; “What happened to Old Humanity?”, to get the TRUTH of what really happened.

Which all means that our heroines are somehow going to get MORE answers out of Jinn. And since a hundred-year timeskip seems… unlikely, to say the least, that leaves us with really just two options:

Time-manipulation shenanigans to ‘speed up’ the normal hundred-year recharge, which we don’t have any kind of precedent for at the moment.

Or, it turns out that there are ways of BYPASSING Jinn’s normal three-question limit.

Which brings us to Ruby, who just so happens to have a mysterious inborn power apparently originating from the very being who CREATED Jinn and the other relic spirits.

Basically, I’ve got a hunch that Ruby’s Silver Eyes, possibly as a result of developing/realizing more of their powers, turn out to give her what is essentially ‘administrator access’ to the Relics, allowing her to bypass their normal restrictions.

Like getting more answers from Jinn.

And the funny thing is, we’ve actually ALREADY seen Ruby get both relic spirits we’ve met thus far to, shall we say, skirt the rules a bit.

Ruby got what was essentially a freebie out of Jinn to get herself more time to use her Silver Eyes against the Leviathan: “And while you do not seek knowledge, just this once I was give it freely.” Also note that Jinn’s warning was merely that she would not be summoned ‘without a question’ again. What if it turns out that Ruby is actually capable of asking Jinn more questions? It’s also worth noting that this instance feels distinct from what we saw later when Hazel and Emerald summoned Jinn seemingly for free: Unlike Ruby, Hazel was ‘seeking knowledge’ when he summoned Jinn, and the fact that the so-called ‘password’ worked gave him all the answers he needed, which in turn satisfies Jinn’s mandate to answer questions. Which again feels rather distinct from the outright FREEBIE that Jinn gives Ruby.

And then of course there’s the whole bit where Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang got Ambrosius to SUPER-skirt his own rules to make Penny a new body. Which we’re still a bit hazy on HOW they got that to work. Again, given that it was Ruby who summoned Ambrosius, what if it turns out that she was able to get him to BYPASS his normal restrictions?

Another neat little detail to all this is the fact that we are actually two-for-two on Ruby being the FIRST person shown on-screen using each of the relics. She’s the first person we see using the Lamp to summon Jinn, and again the first person we see using the Staff to summon Ambrosius. So I can’t help but think we’re likely to see this pattern continue with the Sword and the Crown.

I realize some of these on their own might feel like a bit of a stretch, but taken together I think we can start seeing a pattern:

Right now, Ruby is two-for-two on both being the first person shown on screen using a relic AND getting what seems to be special treatment from both relic spirits AND just so happens to have a power that apparently originates from the very being who CREATED the relics in the first place.

I can’t help but feel like this is all going somewhere…

Top 5 ER episodes or arcs?

Exodus: CARTER COMPETENCY, BELOVED.

The arc from "Post Mortem" to "ONe More for the Road" : This is Carter's arc (lolol you may detect a certain ... bias in this reply ... gosh, I wonder who my favorite is.) Anyway! It's the best because it allows Carter to stand up for what he wants in life, and that is to not be a surgeon. He makes that choice, turning away from the kind of doctor he was compromising to be to make his terrible parents happy (at least partially) and to gain the favor of Benton (at least partially, whom he also respects and desires the approval of. This is such an important arc to HIM and his character.

Ruby Redux: Man. Man. Man. This illustrates Carter's character arc so well.

Middle of Nowhere: THE PETER BENTON EPISODE. Listen, this shows all his soft spots, the ones he doesn't like to acknowledge that exist outside of Carter. Also, he eats sweet potato pie with his fingers. I love him.

this is is ONE ARC: Be Still My Heart - Mayday. Perfect. Perfect handling of drug addiction. Perfect handling of trauma. Perfect handling of loss. Perfect handling of grief. Perfect. Untouched. Unmatched. Perfect.
