Pro-lifers are not actually pro-"lifers" at all. They are pro-birth. They don't care what conditions the child will live in or whether they will survive at all, the important thing for them is that they should be born. They don't care what will happen to the pregnant person and their health because of the birth and whether they will survive at all. They don't care if it's a victim that they force to keep the pregnancy from a rapist and they don't care what will happen if this bastard suddenly gets custody. Some of them literally see pregnancy as a punishment. Some of them say "your consent to sex was consent to pregnancy", ignoring cases of sexual abuse or condom removal.
They often ignore the children that already born, the orphans, don't adopt them and don't spend time helping them. They don't spend time trying to improve the lives of children in abusive families, all they talk about is keeping the pregnancy and about how people who have abortions are the most horrible people in the world.
It's about control, not about life. They don't care about life. They want control.

Absolutely. People like to imagine a world in which only the 'deserving' get punished by anti-choice legislation and which saves the 'good' people having miscarriages etc...
But there's no way to do that. If you deny people abortions, you will also deny people who are miscarrying or experiencing potentially fatal pregnancy complications lifesaving care. I have a friend in a red state currently experiencing complications in their pregnancy, and these laws are directly affecting the care they receive, and the options they have, and potentially endangering their life. And I'm absolutely furious about that.
As a doctor I REALLY wish non medical people would quit interfering in what happens between a pregnant person and their doctor. When you make it illegal for a medical team to offer treatment, and have people unhinged enough to be more than happy to try to charge or sue clinicians for offering said treatment, people will die.
And again, we see people who would rather a whole bunch of people die, and the worst case scenarios pass, rather than theoretically accept a lesser evil existing - because THEY get to feel morally pure for 'choosing life' even if that condemns people to death. And they can then say 'well God did it', as if He wouldn't be disappointed in a system that CAN clearly provide life saving care but chooses to deny it in order for people to feel righteous because they didn't ever get their hands dirty. They don't care, because they never imagine that it may be THEIR mother or daughter or sister who is stuck dying because of the laws they were happy to bring in. Obviously the laws are only for the cackling baby-murdering pro-choicers who are all aborting 37 week pregnancies for no reason.
Some people would rather do what they think is the most ideologically pure thing, even if it causes much more harm overall, than accept that maybe there isn't a neat answer and maybe you have to let people choose for themselves and try to understand and help them.
I want to make something really clear that I think Anti-Choice people have failed to understand that Pro Choicers definitely saw coming.
An exception for Rape, Life of the Mother, and Incest mean nothing when you have to prove it in a court of law, or get a team of lawyers and judges to sign off on it which can take weeks or even months.
Weeks a person dying hasn't got. Women are now dying. Actually dying. Because hospitals legally could not save their lives until they could wake up a judge and get their lawyers, and another sides lawyers awake and up and figured out if it was actually necessary or not. All people with no understanding of medicine, and no attatchment to the person suffering who simply doesn't want to die.
There's a lot more I could cover, like the increase in illegal abortion, abortion tourism, the massive increase in infant abandonment... but I'm going to leave it here.
People are dying. People who should be alive. Who would be alive if abortion was legal and the hospital could have simply treated their patient without waiting for a dozen men with no medical experience in another building to decide if their patient actually needs treatment or not. And yes they do have to wait. Because if they don't they get charged with murder for trying to save a life.
Your policies are killing people. Not theoretical people. Not fetuses with no conscious thought or pain. Adults with lives. Teenagers with a whole life ahead of them. Mothers with children who need them. Real people with conscious thought, with fear, with pain. People who meet every definition of personhood.

Why is an imaginary man more important that a real woman?
It’s always “think about your future husband!” Or “what if your future husband wants kids?” Whenever a woman needs something done down there
Let women control their bodies
Not a man who is not going to be affected by the medical procedures

I know most people don't care about anything unless it has to do with the U.S. but can we please start talking about the Canadian election.
Please don't vote for Poilievre. He's basically the Canadian Trump and plans to put in place laws that harm trans youth, and lots of other shit.
Please vote istg this is the only way anything will get better. Poilievre has been kissing millionaires and billionaires asses. He'll make life even harder, and he loves Trump.
Reblogs are appreciated, especially if you aren't Canadian.
This post is about Canada, do not derail or say that "it's worse in America." Canadians are very scared, we deserve to talk about our issues without Americans talking over us.
Update, the election happened and Pierre lost.

Totally agree. I was VERY lucky my first type was perfect for me, and I have no ill side effects. But if it didn’t work for me, and I had to try other variants, you better damn well believe I would!!
Cus I don’t want to get pregnant, and I don’t want children!!
"I quit my birth control and feel so much better, this is proof birth control is poisoning our bodies!!!" listen I am a lucky duck who tried one form of birth control and felt great but if I had to try 80 different types I would because I don't want to get fucking pregnant. if your birth control sucks try a new type!! "everyone should quit their birth control" is a bunch of conservative-crunchy bullshit

"Doctors and women now have the final say about when an abortion should be performed, after a Maricopa County Superior Court judge struck down the state’s 15-week ban following last year’s vote to enshrine abortion rights in the Arizona Constitution.
Two local OB-GYNs and the Arizona chapter of Planned Parenthood took the state to court over the ban late last year. The trio argued that the 2022 law, which prohibited abortions after its gestational deadline unless a patient was facing death or the impairment of a major bodily function, should be struck down because voters in November [2024] overwhelmingly decided to make the procedure a fundamental right via Proposition 139.
Judge Frank Moskowitz agreed, writing in a two-page ruling that the 15-week law is instantly nullified and no one will ever be able to carry out its punishments. The law threatened doctors who violated it with up to two years in prison.
“(The state of Arizona), its respective agents, officers, employees, successors, and all persons acting in concert with each or any of them are hereby immediately and permanently and forever enjoined and restrained from implementing, enforcing, or giving any effect to (the 2022 law),” reads Moskowitz’s order.
The 15-week ban directly conflicted with Prop. 139, because the voter-approved constitutional provisions explicitly allow abortions to be performed to the point of fetal viability, generally regarded to be around 23 to 24 weeks. It also includes a carveout for abortions beyond that point if a doctor deems one is necessary to preserve a patient’s life, physical or mental health.
Abortion rights advocates celebrated the ruling, which has been long-awaited and represents the first win in tearing down Arizona’s many hostile abortion laws. More than two dozen anti-abortion laws remain on the books, including laws that mandate a 24-hour waiting period before an abortion can be performed and forbid the use of telehealth to prescribe the abortion pill. Each of those will likely need to be individually challenged in court.
Dr. Paul Isaacson, one of the OB-GYNs involved in the lawsuit and the co-owner of a private abortion clinic in the Phoenix area, said the ruling restores his ability to offer his patients critical care without worrying about being criminalized for it.
“For nearly three years, my hands were tied because of this cruel ban,” he said in a written statement. “It is a relief to no longer have to turn away patients from essential health care.”"

I like it when the example shows up to prove my point for me.
the reason it's difficult to argue abortion with anti abortionists is because for the statement "women's right to bodily autonomy is more important than a stranger's life" to make sense to you, you have to already believe that
women are full human beings (even when they're not wives or mothers)
women have zero moral obligation to sacrifice themselves or produce offspring for society
there is no divine purpose to female anatomy and the purpose of a woman's body is entirely determined by her own self.
women have an unconditional right to defend themselves from violence and suffering of any kind
they legit cannot wrap their heads around that

Misogyny as policy treats women as 'less than'.
There is no law that controls a man's body. Now do the same for women.
Equal protection is the law.

the kids online safety act passed the u.s. senate.
long story short (for anyone who hadn't heard of this before) the kids online safety act, aka kosa, is a bill that will censor online content and resources for lgbtq+ matters, reproductive healthcare, activism (INCLUDING PALESTINE AND LIKELY OTHER CRISES GOING ON LIKE IN CONGO OR SUDAN), mental health, etc. everywhere--its effects likely won't be contained to just america.
today, july 30th, 2024, the senate passed it 91-3. it has officially moved to the house of representatives.
is this a pretty massive setback? yes. do you have every right to be scared, sad, angry, or whatever else about this happening? absolutely. but should you give up hope completely? NO!
even though kosa passed the senate, the house is on break/august recess at the moment. we have around an entire month to get emails, calls, and faxes in to house reps, maybe more depending on when they decide to vote on it.
should it pass the house and get signed into law, we still have a whole 18 months before it actually goes into effect. this is plenty of time for digital rights orgs (e.g. fight for the future, the electronic frontier foundation) and other groups that oppose it to file a lawsuit against it. even if, worst-case scenario, it flies through the house immediately after the recess ends, we can still fight this up to march 2026.
so, yes, remember what's at stake here, but also remember that it's not over yet. we lost a battle, not the war.
below are some resources to learn more about kosa and how to contact your reps (first link) + a page that lets you directly contact progressive house reps, sign an open letter opposing the bill, and view others' testimonies against it (second link):

at all. not a smidge, not a nudge. even if the dick owner doesn’t use it. even if the dick owner has breast implants. even if they like a silicone dilator attached to a FEMALE (which is RARE in the lesbian community, and even those who like it don’t think it’s a necessity, let alone the “pinnacle of lesbian sex”), even if [whatever fucking stupid argument you can come up with to try to “out-logic” a lesbian’s sexual boundaries].
lesbians just do not like dick. lesbians don’t want dick. lesbians don’t like males. lesbians are females who like females (not people who identify as female, either, but the biological sex term). if you like dick, you are either bisexual or straight.
we don’t want your penis. we CAN NOT MAKE THIS MORE CLEAR.
Lesbians don’t like dick.

PLEASE remember to include trans men and mascs and intersex men in your fight for reproductive rights. And breast health education. And free period products. We are so easily erased from these conversations. Insurance deny claims and clinics refuse to see us because of an M marker. Don't forget about us!

dear americans,
as a polish queer woman and human rights activist, i know exactly how you're feeling right now and what to expect from these elections. i lived through the 2015-2023 regime of pis, a right-wing populist party that divided families in the same way trump did. i’ve experienced the rise of fascism in poland, the influence of far-right parties like konfederacja, and their “santa’s little helpers”—ordo iuris, an ultra-conservative catholic organization (banned in many countries, mind you) that helped enforce a near-total abortion ban and runs anti-queer campaigns in public spaces. i supported the black protests in 2016 as a middle schooler when they first tried to ban abortion. as an adult, i actively participated in the 2020 women’s strike, running from police tear gas daily after they finally passed the ban. i supported friends who faced charges.
i’ve lived through intense homophobia in poland as a queer teen and adult. i survived the first pride march in my hometown, where far-right extremists threw stones and glass at us. i endured the anti-queer propaganda spread by the ruling party in state-owned media. i survived the “rainbow night,” poland’s own stonewall moment in summer 2020, when police arrested around 50 queer activists following the arrest of margo, a nonbinary activist. i survived the "lgbt-free zones," the targeted violence, the slurs from strangers on the street, and the protests i held against queerphobia. it was hard as fuck, but i survived.
but just because i survived, it doesn’t mean others did. many women died because of the abortion ban—marta, justyna, izabela, dorota, joanna, maria, and many others who didn’t survive pis’s draconian anti-abortion laws. milo, kacper, michał, zuzia (she was 12), wiktor, and other queer and trans kids and young adults took their own lives because of the relentless queerphobia.
despite all of this, our experience in poland can serve as a guide now. here are some tips for staying safe and how we, polish queers and women, organized under the regime:
safety first, always. if you know someone who’s had an abortion, no you don’t. if you know someone is trans, no you don’t. if you know people who help with safe abortions, no you don’t—at least not until you know it’s 100% safe to share. if you are queer or have had an abortion, only share this with people you trust fully. most importantly, not everyone has to be an activist just because they’re part of a minority. if it feels unsafe to share that you're queer, trans, etc., then don’t. it doesn’t make you any less queer.
use secure, encrypted messaging like signal for conversations on potentially risky topics, such as queerness, abortion, organizing counter-actions, protests—anything that might be used against you.
stay anonymous online. if you want to research or report something without surveillance, do not use regular internet. get a vpn (mullvad is affordable and reliable), download the tor browser (for both onion and standard links), and if you plan to whistleblow, consider using a riseup email account.
organize and build networks. community is everything now. support each other, foster independence, because your government won’t have your back. set up collectives, grassroots movements. create lists of trusted professionals—lawyers, doctors, etc.—who can offer support.
to lawyers and doctors: please consider pro-bono work. this is what got us through poland’s hardest times. your work will be needed now more than ever.
for protests or risky actions: always write a pro-bono lawyer’s number on your arm with a permanent marker.
get to know the anarchist black cross federation and other resources on safety culture: "Starting an anarchist black cross group: A guide"; Still We Rise - A resource pack for transgender and non-gender conforming people in prison; Safe OUTside the system by the Audre Lorde Project;
for safe abortion info or involvement: get familiar with womenhelpwomen.
stay radical, stay strong, stay informed: The Anarchist Library
if i forgot to (or didn't) include something, don't hesitate to reblog this post with other resources.
