A few real quick mends here, I took a shot at a few different methods for some smallish holes my cats left in my tshirts, trying to get as much done as I could at the laundromat!

First up, we've got some woven darning actually trying to blend in for once, dark blue embroidery thread on a royal blue shirt actually works pretty well!

In doing this, though, I noticed that the new patches are quite raised off the main fabric, (as you can really see here with the fabric out of tension) so I figured a different approach was in order.

Unfortunately, this lead to no small volume of hubris on my part. Do the darning with machine thread, I say, entirely unaware of how much weaving through that entails (and all without one of those fancy darning looms, either!). Do I love the look of the way this came out? not particularly, it kinda reminds me of a poorly-mended sock, in the worst way. But, good news, it is much less dense on the fabric! (I'm still debating if I could just get away with a few less threads in the embroidery floss, to be honest)

Last but not least, we've got some plain 'ol satin stitches to cover up the hole next to it. This I really like the feel of, and the look is actually quite nice, if you ask me! Especially on this particular shirt, the simple white sashiko thread works quite nicely with the cheap white cotton shirt. I'm particularly glad to have saved this shirt, it's one I got for free in college after spending some time on campus radio, so I'm pretty fond of it, given that Paper Cuts started there. (By the way, did you know I have a podcast? It's true, I do live audiobooks!)

Up next on the docket as far as darning goes, I'm looking forward to checking out some swiss darning, I think I'll prefer the look quite a bit to the simple woven style on display here. Keep an eye out, it'll certainly come up in a future project!
